4. How did You use media technologies in the construction of your media
product?
I used a limited amount of
colour on the front cover as
typical magazines only use 2-3
colours. I also chose to use
colours similar to those in the
image.
Front Cover
5. I also added a stroke onto
my text as this would make
the text stand out to the
audience.
6. I also added my barcode onto the front cover
as typical magazines have the barcode o the
front cover.
7. I also added a puff, as
magazines sometimes use these
as an incentive to persuade
someone to buy the magazine.
8. Contents Page
I set the layout of my page as a 3
column layout structure as this is typical
of real media products.
9. I added the regular content
first, as these are the articles
that will appear in each
issue, therefore these would
be most important to the
audience.
10. I also put the second heading as ‘feature
articles’, as in conventional magazines,
they are separate from regular content.
11.
12. I also put in an editors note as
this is a good way for the
magazine to connect with the
target audience.
13. I also added social network links
(plug ins) as the target audience is
college students, therefore most
of them would have access to
sites such as Facebook and
Twitter.
14. I aslo added an image to the
contents page that was relevant to
one of the articles.
15. I also added article
information, so that
the audience will
know what they can
find in each article
I made the page numbers stand
out by making sue they were the
second largest text on the page,
as this is where the audience will
find the articles they are
interested in
I used black for the text as it was
one of the primary colours on
the front cover. I did this as
magazines have a strict colour
scheme that they follow
throughout each issue.
16. What are the strengths and weaknesses of both the product and you’re use
of media technologies?
Strengths
Front Cover
I already knew how to use Photoshop, so I was good at manipulating the image I wanted to use and add text to the image.
I learnt how to add images to the front cover, such as the barcode.
I was good at adding effects onto the text to make it stand out more.
Weaknesses
I could of added a pull quote, as this would have given the target audience a taste of what to expect in the article.
I could have added a skyline, as this would have made the page look more professional.
I could have changed the size of some of the cover lines, as this would make the most important ones stand out.
17. Contents Page
Strengths
I followed the conventional 3 column layout of contents page structure
I separated the feature content from the regular content as this is a typical convention of magazines
I included a main image.
Weaknesses
I could of added more images as magazine contents pages typically have more images than text
I used the same colurs font, I could of changed this to make it look more professional.
I could of included images of the Twitter and Facebook icons into the social network links to make them stand out.
18. Action Plan
I will add more images to my contents page as this will make it look more
professional, and it will look more interesting to the audience as it wont be
dominated by text.
I will add a skyline to my front cover, as this will also make it look more like
a professional magazine front cover.
I will also change the font and text styles as this will make it look unique
and stand out from other magazines.
