Bentley College Strengths
After the first semester of freshman year at Bentley University, students take a Career Development
Seminar, which begins by taking a survey about strengths. Out of 34 strengths, the test lists the top 5
strengths for each person. Bentley students typically share the same type of strengths, such as
Analytical, Focus, Maximizer, Strategic, and Woo. However, when I received my results, I felt like the
elephant in the room. While most people received Competitive and Achiever as their top two
strengths, mine came back as Relator and Empathy. As awkward as it was to explain to my teacher
that my results were atypical, this moment lit a light bulb inside of my head. During my first semester,
I struggled with my business courses, and none of the material seemed to pique my interest. At first, I
wrote this off as a transition period and a time where I just needed to adjust to the college lifestyle
while away from home and on my own. As time went on, this idea began to turn into serious doubt
about whether the corporate business world was for me. The only problem was that Bentley is known
for its business programs; in fact, out of 24 majors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From Art History to Mathematics to Special Majors, Dartmouth offers a wide range of majors to
explore, which was a crucial part of deciding where I wanted to transfer to. Although I am not sure
about my intended major, one program that I am very interested in is the Education minor. After
having close relationships with my high school teachers, I have become interested in the possibility of
working in secondary education. Despite other schools having majors in these programs, I feel that
Dartmouth s minor would be the best program for me because the D Plan would give me more leeway

James Bond Sex And Violence Analysis
Within James Bond s universe, sex and violence are often the same thing.
James gun is used not as an extension of his penis, but as his penis. When in M tells him that he is
going to need a new gun because his old one no longer suffices, Fleming describes Bond s relationship
with his old gun using masturbatory terms, describing how Bond had dismantled the gun and oiled it
and packed the bullets carefully into the spring loaded magazine and tried the action once or twice,
pumping the cartridges out onto the bedspread in some hotel bedroom in Dr. No, (025,), and in a
celebration of pre existent vocabulary Bond can often be seen resting his hand on the butt of his gun.
(CR, 008)
Similarly, acts of violence are described in ways that invite the imagining of sexual acts. In the
testicular torture scene from Casino Royale, where cool Le Chiffre flogs Bond with a carpet beater,
only Fleming chooses to describe Bond s response to the torture rather than the torture itself, and
when reading the responses selectively one might think Bond s body is responding to physical
pleasure rather than pain. Fleming writes, Bond s whole body arched in an involuntary spasm. His
face contracted in a soundless scream and his lips drew right away from his teeth. At the ... Show more

In dealing with men, villains, Bond prefers to use his gun to persuade them ( times when its threat
alone had been enough to save his life) or take them out when persuasion is not an option. When it
comes to women, however, Bond s penis is usually sufficient persuasion. Pussy Galore changes sides
after sleeping with Bond (both on the field of sexual preference and loyalty of service), Vesper Lynd
does too, though rather more dramatically, and for Solitaire her attraction to Bond is the reason she
helps him, and trusts him. He is more of a man than, ironically, Mr Big

Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory
Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought
about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different
philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how they
compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John Locke,
and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more theist
approach to social contract theory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish economist
who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become dependent on it.
The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet Martineau. Martineau was a
British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects of American Society,
specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her research.
John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social contract
theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are, without the
interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic principles that
greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence
was not only an important document because it declared the United States free from British rule, but

Rapid Treatment Service
This method is a change in how emergency medical care is provided. In this technique is a design to
get the patients with high severe health problem seen faster by the physician and trying to make the
care of less injured patients easy, as well. The most important factor of this method is to triage early
and priorities the severity of patient disease and to find out what specific care does the patient need.
In this case, patients are seen by the triage nurse immediately after their arrival to the emergency
Department. The nurse consider the level of severity of the patient and depends on their problem
direct them to the area designed for either urgent condition or to the Rapid treatment service (RTS)
area. When a patient is not in a bed, he or she can move to receive the care they need more quickly
rather than waiting for the caregiver to come to them. If they need to wait for test results, they can do
so in a comfortable lounge area. Meanwhile, beds remain open for the most serious ... Show more

Using this system, low acuity patients receive a quick triage and treated by the physician next to the
triage area. There is no need for changing the number of nurses or physicians in the ED.
In this method we assigned a waiting area just next to the registration area, for those patients with less
severe health problems (level 4 or 5), with a physician room including a bed and all the necessary
equipment they need for treatments. There is also a nurse helping the physician to increase
productivity through improved communication and teamwork. In this method when the triage nurse
prioritize the patient as a less injured and ill, they send the patient to the RTS area right after the triage
where they are receiving tests and treatments in minutes, not hours.

Johannes Veermeer Accomplishments
Very little is known about Johannes Vermeer. He was exclusively devoted to the arts. Due to his
elusiveness, Thore Burger named him The Sphinx of Delft ( Biography of ). Vermeer was an artist
during the Dutch Golden Age, a period of wealth for the Netherlands. Many outbreaks of the plague
had come and gone, but things were finally returning to what they were like before it began. Trade
flourished through the East India Company. The arts became popular, and artists were gaining wealth
and fame. Many art guilds were formed where artists could communicate with other artists in their
community.
Johannes Vermeer s paintings deeply impacted the Dutch Golden Age. Girl With a Pearl Earring by
Tracy Chevalier is a fictional story told from the point of view of Griet, a maid in the Vermeer
household in Delft, Netherlands. Griet is a fictional muse that Chevalier created for Vermeer s painting
The Girl With a Pearl Earring. Griet shows through her eyes how Johannes Vermeer began his
paintings, the painting process, and how he ended them. The Netherlands was thriving during the time
Vermeer lived, the Dutch Golden Age. Vermeer was an influential artist who contributed to the
Netherland s Golden Age. The independent novel Girl With a Pearl Earring showcases the
realisticness of Vermeer s paintings and his affiliation in Dutch society.
Vermeer used a unique color of blue, or ultramarine, in his works called Delft Blue. Delft Blue is

Examples Of Thomas In The Movie Crash
The Sociology of Crash The Thomas Theorem is a sociological theorem developed in 1928 by W.I.
Thomas and D.S. Thomas that states, if men define situations as real, they are real in their
consequences. In other terms, how a person interprets the reality of a situation determines the
ramifications of the situation. There are several occurrences of the Thomas Theorem within the movie
Crash, most notably when Jean reacts in blind fear to the presence of Anthony and Peter, when Daniel
s daughter attempts to protect her father with her invisible cloak, and when Officer Hansen shoots
Peter. In the case of the carjacking of the Cabot s Lincoln Navigator, Anthony and Peter are merely
walking down the sidewalk in the Cabot s direction when Jean

Application Of The Server Register A Callback
Answer] When the client caches the data, the server register a callback, this enables the client to be
informed about the data being modified. If a modification has taken place the server does not register
the callback which means that it informs the client that the cached data is stale. The cached data is
canceled by the client so that it can be accessed by local cache the next time it is accessed; the local
cache will get the information from the server by installing the callback. This is the performance and
correctness improvement over having the client periodically ask the server if its cached data is only
the current data or not. The server can broadcast the changes to all the clients that cache the data,
however, this approach fails when the server is not positive that is the clients will need the new data in
the future. When a server hands out a callback on a file to a client, the server promises to contact the
client before invalidating old copies of the file which might be cached at the client this is also known
as breaking the callback, the client can use cached copies of the file freely if the callback has not been
broken. 3. Consider a distributed file system that does client caching using write through. The system
caches individual blocks, rather than entire files. Can the client in this system have a cache
consistency problem? If so, suggest two possible solutions. Answer] Client caching causes
inconsistency into the system. Consider a case where clients

Troy and Trojan War
Troy and Trojan War: Final
Topic 2
Helen: What is beauty? Some may say Helen is and was the definition of beauty. Can beauty be born
or be simply made by the Gods. Beauty in this epic tale in The Iliad had the power to make any man
do anything, Helen being a famous female character in this ancient time made the power of beauty
strike. In this period of time walked many strong warriors, many famous warriors. But they all seemed
to let Helen has the power. When being this beautiful I believe it came with a big price. She was
blamed for the war. She was called the innocent, the guilty, the dangerous, the sinful, the irresponsible,
and the woman who launched a thousand ships . She was blamed because these men were fools to her
beauty. A woman s beauty can t possibly be the cause for all this death and destruction. But in the epic
tale of The Iliad, these men made Helen the most powerful one of them all. Some say she was the
reasoning for all many innocent men who died, but why? Her beauty. Helen of Sparta was the cause of
the whole war between the Trojans and the Achillians, which lasted for ten years. She was mortal and
immortal, he father was told as being Zeus and her mother was the Leda, the beautiful queen of
Sparta. Her mother was a swan so when having Helen she was in an egg. As she grew older all Helen s
suitors came from all over Greece, one of the men were Menelaus who she married. But during an
absence of Menelaus, Helen was taken from Sparta by

Rosalie Metaphors
The way this book is written tricks me up sometimes because it goes from talking in past tense to the
quotes being in present tense and she also refers to the readers. It was strange to read at first, but once
I got the hang of it the book was made more enjoyable because of it. Matilda seems to be in the
background the whole time. She is present, but in the background. She seems to like to keep to herself
and listened to her sister when Rosalie was around, but never makes large impressions on Agnes.
Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug.
I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a
heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was
always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her.
Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. I feel bad that her husband does not like that
it was a girl, but technically it was his fault. I feel bad for that child though. She is going to have to
grow up with a brat of a mother and probably become a brat herself because of it. ... Show more

It broke my heart to read it. I hate it when people die in books and movies. Then what Mr. Murray said
made it even worse because he was so blunt. He was of course correct, but still have a little sympathy.
Then my heart shattered when she got to the house and he was died. I felt so bad for Agnes and her
family. It made me want to cry. Then when they were talking about money it made me feel horrible for
them. I was proud of Agnes s mother for standing up to her father though. That man deserved it.
Nobody should turn away family just because of who they marry. I get that it was improper and
scandalous of her to marry Agnes s father, but she was your daughter old man get over

The Treaty Of Versailles Was A Prime Minister Of France
The Treaty of Versailles was signed June 28th, 1919 after the Big Three had argued for months about
the consequences and negotiations of the treaty. The Big Three were David Lloyd George, Georges
Clemenceau, and Woodrow Wilson. Vittorio Orlando was the Prime Minister of France and had some
say in the treaty because he was one of the victor. He eventually walked out of the meeting because he
wasn t getting his way and gave up his position. Each had a different approach to the treaty and had
their own ideas about the consequences of Germany. Lloyd George was the Prime Minister of Britain
and more of a subtle approach to the treaty, but still believed Germany should pay for what they did.
He knew the treaty couldn t be too harsh; otherwise, Germany would try to get there revenge, and he
also water to keep Germany as a trading partner, so he didn t want Germany s economy too weak to
trade and was afraid that communism to spread to Germany. Georges Clemenceau was the Prime
Minister of France and was the harshest of the Big Three and wanted Germany to suffer. Germany
destroyed France killed hundreds of thousands. He believed Germany should brought to its knees and
never be strong enough to start war again. He wanted Germany to pay to rebuild France and all of the
damage they caused during the war. Woodrow Wilson was the President of USA and was the least
harsh. He wanted total world peace and didn t understand the hatred France and Britain had towards
Germany. He had

Australian Court System Research Paper
Is our NSW court system effective? It is if you have money. Is it something that we can just adhere to
with out ever allowing it to adapt and evolve to meet societies needs? Absolutely not. Just like
humanity, the NSW court system contains protruding faults that are made apparent with further
scrutiny. The court system is something that requires our constant attention and support to improve
and advance. In order for the court system to attain eligibility it relies heavily on 4 fundamental
components; affordability, simplicity, fairness and accessibility. For countless Australians our legal
system is lacking on all these fronts. Based on the 2012 survey conducted by the New South Whales
Law and Justice Foundation, it showed that around 1.7 million Australians can expect to encounter a
legal problem each year and 490,000 of those people will not receive legal advice due to financial
reasons or lack of knowledge. The prices for legal services have increase by 49% in the last 6 years
alone. This dramatic inflation of costs within the justice system leads to increased difficulty within
society to be able to afford anything but the most basic of legal representation. When people who can t
afford a lawyer turn to government funded legal assistance, they find that due to chronic funding
shortages, ongoing help is often restricted to those on only the lowest incomes and even further, is
only for a narrow collection of family and criminal legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, under further analysis, it becomes apparent that the verdict acts more as a deterrent rather
than an upstanding legal configuration. The legal system, for the average person in New South Wales,
is only a figure of authority that deters the individuals from breaking the law, which some may say is
what it is there to do. Conversely, we need it to do more than that, we need it to properly meet our
requests when we are involved in legal

Mid-Atlantic Ridge Vs Volcanic Trench

of the mid ocean ridge which encircles the Earth. Another boundary is called a convergent boundary.
When the crust expands at the divergent boundary the plate is pushed into another plate where it is
either sub ducted or it buckles. This really depends on the type of lithosphere that is involved in the
convergence (Kious). This convergence can occur between two ocean plates, two continental plates or
an ocean and continental plates. Two of the features that can be found at a convergence boundary is a
volcanic arc and a deep ocean trench. The Volcanic trench can be found over the subduction zone

Persuasive Informative Essay
Just the right splash of color of paint can help you get more money for your home, however, thousands
of colors to choose from can be overwhelming. On the other hand, what if the color swatches were not
organized by the brand of paint along with the paint colors not flowing together to see the different
shading of reds, blues, yellows, etc.? What if we only knew words from elementary and we had
intelligent people using strong words that we have never heard of before?
Organization is an important element for life. Without it, life would be a crazy unorganized mess. For
example, when explaining how making a quilt you would not start on the sewing machine, you would
start by picking out the material you would want to make the quilt out of along with the pattern you
want the quilt to look like. It is starting from the beginning and working your way to the end.
Therefore, you will understand how to make a quilt by doing it in spatial order.
It is important when giving a speech for it to be organized and easily understood. For one, it will make
your speech go smoother, second, people will understand you better and third it builds trust. If you are
going to inform or persuade your audience that you do not have to go out of the country to see clear
blue ocean water. Organize your thoughts to make them believe that you can be in paradise staying in
the United States. For example, I have gone to Panama beach located in Florida and the crystal blue

Mercantile Policies During The 17th And 18th Centuries
Outline the main mercantile policies pursued by European nations during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Apply economic principles to analyse the impact of such policies on the countries that adopted them.
Mercantilism was at its peak in Europe during the 17th and 18th century, this essay will look at the
policies adopted by Britain, the Dutch republic and France and see how they affected their economies
and industries as well as that of the other nations.
Britain
The British empire used various mercantile policies to attempt to increase the country s wealth, Britain
mainly granted monopolies and privileges in order to restrict competition in sea trade.
Tariffs
Britain used tariffs on imports coming in from Dutch vessels, mainly against Dutch fish imports to
develop the English fishing industry (Findlay and O Rourke, pg. 242, 2007). Britain used tariffs on the
Dutch vessels in order to allow the fishing industry to grow in Britain whilst also allowing enough fish
in to satisfy demand. As mercantilists saw the trade between nations as a zero sum game the British
still saw this as a way it was reducing Dutch trade whilst also increasing their own.
However, tariffs can be looked at in the economic sense of reducing overall welfare due to the tariff
being introduced as it pushes the prices upwards. This tends to affect the economic welfare of
consumers more than producers. Therefore, it could be argued that for the consumers in Britain this
policy negatively affected them whilst

Plagiarism In The Bedford Researcher, By Mike Palmquist
In The Bedford Researcher, Mike Palmquist (2015), identifies the consequences regarding work that

Reasons For Appeasement In Ww2
The definition of appeasement is to make a concession to an enemy power to avoid conflict; which it
was supposed to in WW2. Although appeasement is designed to avoid conflict, some believe that the
appeasement in WW2 just created more conflict and ended up lengthening the war. There are
numerous reasons as to why appeasement was the right option for Great Britain and France and as to
why they not only wanted, but needed to appease. Examples of these reasons are the US Separationist
Approach, the damage of WW1 and the lack of army and weapons within Great Britain and France,
which was fuelled by the fact that they didn t expect a war due to Versailles.
When World War 1 had ended, Germany had been at a great loss due to Versailles. They lost

what would make me happy, and I worked out what I wanted to do, and I trained myself to do the job
that would make those two things happen. (61). Will worked hard so he could live the way he wanted

Comparing Satire in Canterbury Tales, Pride and Prejudice...
Use of Satire in Canterbury Tales, Pride and Prejudice and The Rape of the Lock
Jane Austen and Alexander Pope had had a myriad of writing styles and techniques from which to
express the desired themes of their works. Satire, however, seemed to be the effective light hearted,
yet condescending, tool that enabled them to surface the faults and follies of their moral and elite
society. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, satire is used to the full extent in revealing the glutton within a
pious and sacrificing nun, the vain hunter within a poor and meditative monk, and the vulgarity within
a honorable woman of society. In Pride and Prejudice and The Rape of the Lock, Austen and Pope use
contrasting forms of satire to obtain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes in speaking her mind, exercising her wit with books, and falling in love with a man s
character and soul rather than his yearly income. Elizabeth s character is essential to the satirical
purpose of the novel because it clashes loudly with the vanities that society holds so dearly, and forces
society to see how it blindly debases itself by believing in the importance of appearance and status
rather than self importance and individuality. Austen further mocks society through Mary, Elizabeth s
younger sister. Mary conspicuously tries to defy the standard rules of proper ladies in society by
refusing to dance at the balls, reading books in public, and using a verbose vocabulary to create the
illusion that she is a well accomplished woman. However, these actions only make her motives of
being an individual to receive praise from society more obvious, adding another element of character
satire to the novel. Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a mock epic that uses hyperboles to fill an
otherwise absurd and unimportant situation with pompous splendor; therefore, with the additional
extravagancies, the situation becomes even more trivial. For example, in Pope s poem a lord cuts a
lock of hair from the head of a lovely maiden. The actual occurrence of such a trivial matter in Pope s
society had caused great alarm, influencing him to light heartedly ridicule the people involved in the
situation by creating a

further pursue this interest by obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Management.
During the doctoral program, I desire to explore the fields of exchange rate risk, and financial and
banking crisis management. An undergraduate research project on the Russian Currency Crisis of
1998 has helped me develop a keen interest in these sub fields of Economics. I began the project in the
seminar section on Central Banking by Prof. Roisin O Sullivan. The paper examined the role of the
Central Bank of Russia in devaluation of the Ruble and the Russian default of 1998 along with its
involvement in the crisis management process. This research required me to learn theories ranging
from Paul Krugman s Balance of Payment Crises to recent models of monetary policies independently
in a very short span of time and as well as apply them in context of Russia an economy in political
transition. It would be, therefore, very interesting to study, on a larger scale, the role of central banks
and governments in crisis management process to help boost business

Meursault And Sisyphus Research Paper
Camus says One must imagine Sisyphus happy. Camus implies we cannot choose to imagine him
otherwise. After all, to imagine him unhappy would debunk Camus s entire theory that accepting the
absurdity brings happiness. this raises the question of what it means to be happy and how we
determine what truly matters. We tend to experience happiness when we are with friends or family.
feelings of immense joy can be experienced when we do things we love and do often such as playing
sports or doing something we have never done before such as going on a trip to a place we have never
seen before. This happiness is what gives our lives meaning and what constitutes a good life

In the grand scheme of things we mean absolutely nothing and will impact nothing. Though this may
be true to ourselves and to our loved ones our lives are the very opposite of insignificant. Marcel
justifies his killing the Arab man by saying that it did not matter because nothing does and that his
actions will not make an impact. This act would have no cosmic significance after all people are killed
every day, however, we know the man has a sister and that he had companions who were with him at
the beach Meursault inadvertently changed the lives of these people forever and not only theirs but
also Marie s who could not accept Meursault s demise as he had come to. Meursault and Sisyphus
accept their fate and abandoned hope because there truly is no way to escape from their circumstances.
They had no other option than to do this because of the great pain their positions caused them. By
accepting the absurdity the two may have been given a sense of relief and peace perhaps but not
happiness. Camus states in the myth of Sisyphus that we can either take a leap of faith and choose to

Advantage Of Using Computer Essay
Advantages of Using Computers
Computers obviously wouldn t be as popular as they are now if they did not offer advantages over
doing tasks manually. Some of these advantages are: Computers can perform calculations much more
quickly and accurately than humans. For example, modern computers can perform hundreds of
millions of calculations per second. Large amounts of data can be stored in a small amount of space.
For example, hundreds of pages worth of text can be stored on a 31⁄2inch floppy disk. Computers can
work continuously and perform repetitive tasks well. Unlike their human counterparts, computers do
not get bored or tired.

Computers have revolutionized businesses, relieving workers from the burden of calculating and
record keeping with pen and paper. While there are a few holdouts and computers in certain
businesses collect dust, the majority of businesses throughout the world use a computer in some
capacity.
Organization
The organizational skills of companies have improved substantially since the 1970s and 1980s due to
the use of computers. Years ago, most contact information between clients, including phone numbers
and addresses for mailing lists, were kept in files or a Rolodex, which made searching for information
time consuming.
Today, customer information is easily accessible and updatable and this is far from the only
organizational area that s been transformed by computers. Product information, inventory, and
descriptions for sales companies are uploaded to computers and placed into databases or on the
internet for easy access by customers. Business accounts and invoices are also kept on computers so
that a customer service representative is only a few clicks away from aiding clients.
Production
The all important area of production has also been greatly impacted by computer technology. The
viability of most businesses is linked to the ability to produce products quickly and effectively.
Computers aid in this process in a number of ways: * They allow for companies to make models of
products, such as cars,

Mrs Sommers Symbolism
Mrs. Sommers life was different of what it is now than what it was before she got married. During this
century, women who had jobs had to quit after they married because when they got home, their job
was to be responsible for everything in the home and eventually their children s needs as well. There
are several symbols that contrast how Mrs. Sommers life was and one of those is symbolism.
Symbolism for Mrs. Sommers is the symbol of her life before marriage and having kids, she probably
had a job when she was younger, but had to quit when she had gotten married. In her life, Sommers
was a hard working woman with a job providing for herself and any family, but when she married had

Changing times in the South in A Rose for Emily William Faulker, the author of A Rose for Emily,

Gene Encoding Of Six Traits From The Pure Bred Garden Pea
The purpose of this lab was to focus on the gene encoding of six traits from the pure bred garden pea
(Pisum sativum). The six traits observed were Seed color, Seed texture, Tendrils, Leaflets, Stipules,
and Height. The purpose of each experiment was to analyze morphological traits and then Finding the
statistical analysis by using the chi squared test. The chi squared test is when we collected the data of
the garden pea and compared it to see if the variation in the data was due to chance or to a variable
that was actually tested. This test helps us determine if our data is significant or non significant. In this
lab the plant being used was the common garden pea (Pisum sativum), the first thing done was to scan
the phenotypes of each parental and first generation offspring; which was homozygous dominant (
P1), homozygous recessive (P2) for parental types, and heterozygous (F1) for first generation
offspring. Next step is to indicate the F2 sample by using a + for dominant and for recessive
phenotype. This was done by making a chi chart that expressed all the phenotype characteristics for
Parental traits to 60 generations of offspring traits. Afterward data was combined with class data to
determine the statistical analysis for all the samples. In addition to analyzing the morphological traits,
statistical data was determined by determining the expected number of plants for seed color, Seed

Disadvantages Of A Space Elevator
Ticket to the Stars
It was first written about in the Bible as the Tower of Babel, long before any scientist thought about or
came up with the idea to invent an elevator to take trips out of this world, instead of mentioning an
elevator of course it was described as building a tower so high it would reach to the heavens.
However, today that story is now almost a reality. With novels, such as that written by Arthur C.
Clarke with the idea of a ride that would glide you into space. It made the idea to many scientists of a
way for a space elevator to be created. A space elevator can be compared to a regular elevator, the
difference you might ask is the space elevator travels up to space into gravity that is different from the
earth atmosphere. NASA, scientists, and many private industries are all interested in creating this
elevator for many purposes. A space elevator can create space traveling for tourist, also it can be used
as a transportation device for material for astronauts and scientists in space. But the cost of building
such an out of this world invention is pricey with its advantages and disadvantages. The elevator is
very hard and complex to build, but if one explains how it works you would think it was rather simple.
The outside of the elevator is made up of strong materials including steel and uses electricity and other
components to be move up and down. But a space elevator utilizes very strong material that will

Differences Between American Colonies And New England...
The American colonies were a diverse and interesting people. The colonies are typically split between
the New England colonies and the Southern colonies. While both sets of colonies would eventually
make up what is now the original thirteen colonies of the United States, they both had their similarities
and differences. What led to the differences of the two sets of colonies and how were they similar?
This question was relevant then and it is relevant in today s world. The southern colonies were mainly
controlled by an elite class of planters that owned the most land and had the most slaves. Below them
were the small farmers that had a few slaves and much smaller plots of land and at the bottom were
the landless white people. This social ladder made up the economic and political worlds in the south.
The planters were the most powerful politically and the most wealthy. This is in sharp contrast to the
New England colonies that were more focused on preserving a familial line and focused on their
families rather than on the next crop growth. The south had very fertile land and this led to the planters
taking over the social landscape. In New England the land wasn t as good and the population wasn t
made up of mostly farm and crop owners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

modern society, the word prostitute might understandably bring many negative connotations to one s

modern workforce have. One could also assume that no one would ever want to become willful sex

The Political And Cultural Unrest Of The Middle East Essay
For over a decade the United States has been entrenched in a war to resolve the political and cultural
unrest in the Middle East. For many, the country of Turkey is the crucible of this region where the
intersections of the main religious and cultural elements collide. Additionally, as a crossroads to
Europe from Asia, Africa and the entire Middle East, Turkey remains an inherently important country
due to its strategic geographic location. The pressures that are exerted on Turkey over the past century
have led many within its borders to question its allegiances and the destiny of the country. Should it
maintain the status quo based on the post WWI political borders or should it pursue a return to times
of the Ottoman Empire when it sat as the seat of power for what many would consider the Caliphate
that presided over those lands at the time? As a strategic crossroads in many aspects, Turkey will
remain important to United States policy in the region.
As the United States Secretary of State, I propose two courses of action (COAs) to aid in the pursuit of
U.S. interests in both Turkey and the region: first, strengthening the military partnership and
enhancing the economic collaboration benefiting the U.S. and Turkey and keeping them on the path of
western style democracy with close ties with the United States; second, using diplomacy and
information to increase Turkey s participation with western organizations and highlight the benefits of
the partnerships while also

My Experience With Real Estate And The Mortgage Crisis
My experience with real estate and the mortgage meltdown is very personal. The beginning of the
crisis happened around 2007 when I was in the 8th grade. Eighth grade was the year that my middle
school offered a trip to students to go to Washington D.C. and New York City. As a history buff and all
around lover of traveling to new places, I was excited to be able to go on this trip. No one in my
family had ever been that far across the United States and I was determined to be the first one. Not
only was I offered the opportunity to travel, something that I did not often do, but also the chance to
visit two places full of history and wonder.
My prospect of going on the trip of lifetime was halted by the real estate and mortgage crisis. This was
because my father is a construction worker.
My father works for a construction company that builds frames. How I describe this to others is: he
creates the skeleton for houses and without him, houses cannot become homes. When the housing
market crisis happened, my father s company lost customers and jobs. No one needed framers
anymore. No one was buying houses because no one could afford them and some were being
foreclosed on. The company lost business and had to layoff employees because the world was in
economic turmoil. My Dad stopped receiving bonuses that would pay for our Christmas presents, our
family trips, and would be home more often because there just wasn t any work.
This was a depressing time for my entire family but we

Satire In Mark Twain s The Damned Human Race
Mark Twain s logical fallacies wash over his readers like depression in the mind. They creep in like a
soft voice heard just by the ears at first, but soon they take over the entire limbic system. Attacking the
amygdala in a verbal hijacking, rendering the host unable to feel conversely. Satire is by definition
Mark Twain s View of the man in The Damned Human Race. It s his use of ridicule to expose and
criticize people s stupidity or vices and follies to scorn (Merriam Webster.com). Mark Twain s
approach to prove his hypothesis that; man is at the bottom of evolution, is enticing but not successful.
The purpose of the reading for Mark Twain was to show: That the human race is of one distinct
species. That other animals also more or less distinct and that they are in the procession. They are
links in the chain which stretches down from the higher animals to man at the bottom (Twain). He
eases his readers into his claims strategically by presenting his facts and findings. He frantically
unravels as he depicts his findings to show the believed evidence as he attempts to stake his claim.
He vexes in an attempt to persuade the reader from the beginning with his experiment of the anaconda
and the English Earl . Showing how the hunters killed many buffalo for theater of the Earl and only
consumed part of one leaving the rest of the buffalo to rot (Twain). While the anaconda on the other
hand was presented with multiple calves and only killed one in entirely, leaving the rest unharmed or
bothered (Twain). Here Twain uses logos as proof to support his claim with his experiments and
findings. He also uses pathos to enrage his reader in the sheer waste that the human man can produce
but as everyone knows not all men are created equal.
In one of his examples he speaks of a two cages (Twain). One filled with assorted animals the other
with different men from different religions and locations (Twain). He hopes to prove how animals
very quickly learned the most basic survival technique to cohabitate where the man did not. He lacks
logos, as the man is an intellectual species and has evolved, surpassing other animals. The animals do
not wear clothes, nor do they choose how they present themselves and what

The Australasian system of legal practice is derived from the United Kingdom which is from the
British settlers in Australia. The legislations laws are formulated by the legislators which is the
parliament of the state and the commonwealth countries. The law of the state must be consistent with
the laws of the commonwealth. It means that any law that is not consistent with the commonwealth
law in Australia is rendered invalid. This presents a significant impact on the same sex marriage
debate. Before the changes in the Marriage Act, the definition of the term marriage was derived from
the UK case. The common law is administered by the courts. The courts are bound by the principles of
precedent which requires the court to adhere to the previous decisions of superior courts. This brings
consistency and prediction in the practice of the common law. Marriage is Australia governed by the
Commonwealth marriage Act of 1961 that defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman to the
exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. The constitution gives power to the
commonwealth to come up with laws on marriage which it shares with the states. There must be vows
or exchange of words for a marriage in addition to all other recognized ceremonies of different
religion.

hand held rectangular device in which not only can make calls, but also be operated as GPS,
calculators, games and infinite amounts of different features. Of course, like everything in the world,
exploiting the use will result in negative outcomes. Parents are utilizing technology as a form of
disciplining their kids in which is only leading to isolation. Instead, parents should wait until children
are better prepared to be given such responsibility. Phones, iPads, tablets, iPods, laptops, computers all
facilitate everyday life. Computers become a necessity in a couple of jobs; keeping files, research,
reminders, etc. Multiple, effective applications of such technology can be set in place, however, that is
not what is being done. Parents are giving children such elaborate devices for absolutely the most
unreasonable intentions. Kids merely entertain themselves for far too long, which transforms into
isolation. Unknowingly growing separated from educational value, friends, and family. For future
generations only disaster emerges, but there is still a way that this can be retained from happening and
involvement of parental help is required. As technology grows, children s ability to learn shrinks.
Before toddlers can even say the word mom , parents are already handing them

Freedom In College Campuses
Freedom, that is what is on every college freshman s mind when they step onto their campus, I
certainly did. There is that moment of realization and you can taste what feels like the beginning of
your life. You are promised opportunities and a guaranteed a better future, whether that means
climbing up the economic ladder or enriching your knowledge, there is a clear understanding that
these years will be your best. Although sometimes they are your worst, what colleges do not tell you,
or even what they do. The lies we are fed and the manipulation that we are unaware of is a growing
matter among campuses. I have seen cases shut down and thrown away just so that the school can say
it has low rape rates. I have seen numerous girls who once

How Does Ayn Rand Use Gender In Atlas Shrugged
In her book, Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand uses a fictional story to critique the end result of several
commonplace ideologies. The book most closely deals with the ultimate result that stems from a
Marxist slogan, From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. The world that Rand
creates has few differences from reality at its start, but as the story progresses, real world ideologies
are taken to the extreme, and societal collapse appears to be imminent. Much of this is revealed
through the thoughts and actions of a character that appears to be Rand s self insert, Dagny Taggart.
Dagny finds herself alienated from both her peers and those in charge of industry based on her beliefs
and her gender. Rand uses Dagny s struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her gender also seems to contribute to the disdain that many characters hold for her. Because of
Dagny s refusal to excuse shortcomings for any reason, she pays little attention to any sexism in her
profession. Since much of the book is written with her thoughts at its forefront, Dagny s alienation
based on gender is easily forgotten. However, it is still evident. Rand does not ignore sexism; she
merely refuses to overplay it. One of the rare mentions of Dagny s gender in her work is found on
page 771, where Bertram Scudder introduces Dagny on his talk show with, the last descendant of an
illustrious name in our industrial history, the woman executive possible only in America. This
comment is brief, and appears harmless, but there is a deeper significance within it. Scudder uses the
words, only possible in America, to attribute Dagny s success to her circumstance, detaching it from
her own effort. This is one of the ways that several characters in the book justify their prejudice
against anyone who is better off than them; they attribute any achievement or detriment to
circumstance, minimizing the accomplishments of others and excusing their own behavior. The
characters who exhibit gender bias against Dagny are not limited to men. In fact, much of the sexism
of which she is subject comes from other women. Readers are exposed to this in a brief encounter with
a minor character named Betty Pope, who expresses her disdain for Dagny, calling her a grease
monkey. . .posing around like a big executive, (Rand, 73). She then comments on Dagny s femininity,
or lack thereof, implying that running a railroad is a task that is beneath a proper woman. The next
obvious drag on Dagny s femininity comes from her brother s second source of companionship, his
wife Cheryl. Cheryl Taggart s first encounter with Dagny is not a friendly one, as she seems to feel the
need to put Dagny in her place. She

Essay on Gathering the Facts at the Crime Scene
The excitement of watching a beautiful well dressed medical examiner or forensic examiner in stiletto
heels hovering over a homicide victim is quite thrilling for television. However, in the reality solving
homicides is not as one would see on their favorite police show. As mention previous, the intrigue
with police shows on television make it difficult to found a jury that have not seen those type show.
Therefore, the court system has a problem obtaining a guilty verdict because jurors wrongfully acquit
guilty defendants when no scientific evidence has been presented, as they have seen on television. As
Donald Shelton states in the CSI Effect: Does It Exist this so called effect was promptly dubbed the
CSI effect, laying much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This task can be accomplished through forensic evidence collection. Once the evidence has been
collected, it must be preserved by maintaining chain of custody to prevent evidence tainting. The
evidence will be preserved until it ready for presentation at the homicide trial. This paper will examine
the major sources of evidence that is required in a homicide investigation that will assist the
prosecution in obtaining a conviction in a homicide case. The Evident Blood splatter A crime scene is
a unique merging of science and the law. Crime scene investigation is a process that includes
documentation of the conditions at the scene and the collection of any physical evidence that coul¬d
give reference to what happened. There is no typical crime scene, and the evidence found there will
vary. (Layton, 2005) When there is a homicide at a crime scene, the forensic investigator will look for
evidence to provide an indication of what actually happen. Did the person kill their self? Did the
victim suffer at the hands of a criminal? The crime scene investigator will look at blood platter
evidence as source to gain knowledge into these question. Blood splatter evidence give investigator a
scientific assessment into criminal investigation. When blood splatter or drip from the human body, its

  • 2. Bentley College Strengths After the first semester of freshman year at Bentley University, students take a Career Development Seminar, which begins by taking a survey about strengths. Out of 34 strengths, the test lists the top 5 strengths for each person. Bentley students typically share the same type of strengths, such as Analytical, Focus, Maximizer, Strategic, and Woo. However, when I received my results, I felt like the elephant in the room. While most people received Competitive and Achiever as their top two strengths, mine came back as Relator and Empathy. As awkward as it was to explain to my teacher that my results were atypical, this moment lit a light bulb inside of my head. During my first semester, I struggled with my business courses, and none of the material seemed to pique my interest. At first, I wrote this off as a transition period and a time where I just needed to adjust to the college lifestyle while away from home and on my own. As time went on, this idea began to turn into serious doubt about whether the corporate business world was for me. The only problem was that Bentley is known for its business programs; in fact, out of 24 majors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From Art History to Mathematics to Special Majors, Dartmouth offers a wide range of majors to explore, which was a crucial part of deciding where I wanted to transfer to. Although I am not sure about my intended major, one program that I am very interested in is the Education minor. After having close relationships with my high school teachers, I have become interested in the possibility of working in secondary education. • 3. James Bond Sex And Violence Analysis Within James Bond s universe, sex and violence are often the same thing. James gun is used not as an extension of his penis, but as his penis. When in M tells him that he is going to need a new gun because his old one no longer suffices, Fleming describes Bond s relationship with his old gun using masturbatory terms, describing how Bond had dismantled the gun and oiled it and packed the bullets carefully into the spring loaded magazine and tried the action once or twice, pumping the cartridges out onto the bedspread in some hotel bedroom in Dr. No, (025,), and in a celebration of pre existent vocabulary Bond can often be seen resting his hand on the butt of his gun. (CR, 008) Similarly, acts of violence are described in ways that invite the imagining of sexual acts. In the testicular torture scene from Casino Royale, where cool Le Chiffre flogs Bond with a carpet beater, only Fleming chooses to describe Bond s response to the torture rather than the torture itself, and when reading the responses selectively one might think Bond s body is responding to physical pleasure rather than pain. Fleming writes, Bond s whole body arched in an involuntary spasm. His face contracted in a soundless scream and his lips drew right away from his teeth. At the ... • 4. Comparison Of John Locke And Social Contract Theory Before sociology was a true discipline of academia, there were philosophical thinkers that thought about the many complexities that make society into what it is. While there are many different philosophical thinkers that share different points of view and theories, it is important to see how they compare and contrast to one another. One of the philosophical thinkers we read about, John Locke, and his theory about the Natural State and Natural Laws that follow, is a valid yet more theist approach to social contract theory. We also looked at the works of Adam Smith, a Scottish economist who looks at the division of labor in societies and how society has evolved to become dependent on it. The last thinker that was discussed in lecture and the readings is Harriet Martineau. Martineau was a British researcher who went to the United States to study many aspects of American Society, specifically using the sociological lense of conflict theory to help with her research. John Locke was a 17th century British philosopher who helped lay the foregrounds for social contract theory and sociology as a discipline. He believed that men are free in their actions and are, without the interference of government, living in a state of nature. Locke lays down the basic principles that greatly influenced the United States Declaration of Independence. The most important factor of this method is to triage early and priorities the severity of patient disease and to find out what specific care does the patient need. In this case, patients are seen by the triage nurse immediately after their arrival to the emergency Department. The nurse consider the level of severity of the patient and depends on their problem direct them to the area designed for either urgent condition or to the Rapid treatment service (RTS) area. • 8. Application Of The Server Register A Callback Answer] When the client caches the data, the server register a callback, this enables the client to be informed about the data being modified. If a modification has taken place the server does not register the callback which means that it informs the client that the cached data is stale. The cached data is canceled by the client so that it can be accessed by local cache the next time it is accessed; the local cache will get the information from the server by installing the callback. This is the performance and correctness improvement over having the client periodically ask the server if its cached data is only the current data or not. The server can broadcast the changes to all the clients that cache the data, however, this approach fails when the server is not positive that is the clients will need the new data in the future. • 9. Troy and Trojan War Troy and Trojan War: Final Topic 2 Helen: What is beauty? Some may say Helen is and was the definition of beauty. Can beauty be born or be simply made by the Gods. Beauty in this epic tale in The Iliad had the power to make any man do anything, Helen being a famous female character in this ancient time made the power of beauty strike. In this period of time walked many strong warriors, many famous warriors. But they all seemed to let Helen has the power. When being this beautiful I believe it came with a big price. She was blamed for the war. She was called the innocent, the guilty, the dangerous, the sinful, the irresponsible, and the woman who launched a thousand ships . She was blamed because these men were fools to her beauty. A woman s beauty can t possibly be the cause for all this death and destruction. But in the epic tale of The Iliad, these men made Helen the most powerful one of them all. Some say she was the reasoning for all many innocent men who died, but why? Her beauty. Helen of Sparta was the cause of the whole war between the Trojans and the Achillians, which lasted for ten years. She was mortal and immortal, he father was told as being Zeus and her mother was the Leda, the beautiful queen of Sparta. Her mother was a swan so when having Helen she was in an egg. Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug. I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her. Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. The Treaty Of Versailles Was A Prime Minister Of France The Treaty of Versailles was signed June 28th, 1919 after the Big Three had argued for months about the consequences and negotiations of the treaty. He eventually walked out of the meeting because he wasn t getting his way and gave up his position. Is it something that we can just adhere to with out ever allowing it to adapt and evolve to meet societies needs? Absolutely not. Just like humanity, the NSW court system contains protruding faults that are made apparent with further scrutiny. The court system is something that requires our constant attention and support to improve and advance. In order for the court system to attain eligibility it relies heavily on 4 fundamental components; affordability, simplicity, fairness and accessibility. For countless Australians our legal system is lacking on all these fronts. Based on the 2012 survey conducted by the New South Whales Law and Justice Foundation, it showed that around 1.7 million Australians can expect to encounter a legal problem each year and 490,000 of those people will not receive legal advice due to financial reasons or lack of knowledge. The prices for legal services have increase by 49% in the last 6 years alone. This dramatic inflation of costs within the justice system leads to increased difficulty within society to be able to afford anything but the most basic of legal representation. Apply economic principles to analyse the impact of such policies on the countries that adopted them. Mercantilism was at its peak in Europe during the 17th and 18th century, this essay will look at the policies adopted by Britain, the Dutch republic and France and see how they affected their economies and industries as well as that of the other nations. Britain The British empire used various mercantile policies to attempt to increase the country s wealth, Britain mainly granted monopolies and privileges in order to restrict competition in sea trade. Tariffs Britain used tariffs on imports coming in from Dutch vessels, mainly against Dutch fish imports to develop the English fishing industry (Findlay and O Rourke, pg. 242, 2007). Britain used tariffs on the Dutch vessels in order to allow the fishing industry to grow in Britain whilst also allowing enough fish in to satisfy demand. As mercantilists saw the trade between nations as a zero sum game the British still saw this as a way it was reducing Dutch trade whilst also increasing their own. However, tariffs can be looked at in the economic sense of reducing overall welfare due to the tariff being introduced as it pushes the prices upwards. This tends to affect the economic welfare of consumers more than producers. Therefore, it could be argued that for the consumers in Britain this policy negatively affected them whilst ... Satire, however, seemed to be the effective light hearted, yet condescending, tool that enabled them to surface the faults and follies of their moral and elite society. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, satire is used to the full extent in revealing the glutton within a pious and sacrificing nun, the vain hunter within a poor and meditative monk, and the vulgarity within a honorable woman of society. Elizabeth s character is essential to the satirical purpose of the novel because it clashes loudly with the vanities that society holds so dearly, and forces society to see how it blindly debases itself by believing in the importance of appearance and status rather than self importance and individuality. Austen further mocks society through Mary, Elizabeth s younger sister. Mary conspicuously tries to defy the standard rules of proper ladies in society by refusing to dance at the balls, reading books in public, and using a verbose vocabulary to create the illusion that she is a well accomplished woman. However, these actions only make her motives of being an individual to receive praise from society more obvious, adding another element of character satire to the novel. During this century, women who had jobs had to quit after they married because when they got home, their job was to be responsible for everything in the home and eventually their children s needs as well. There are several symbols that contrast how Mrs. Sommers life was and one of those is symbolism. Symbolism for Mrs. Sommers is the symbol of her life before marriage and having kids, she probably had a job when she was younger, but had to quit when she had gotten married. The purpose of each experiment was to analyze morphological traits and then Finding the statistical analysis by using the chi squared test. The chi squared test is when we collected the data of the garden pea and compared it to see if the variation in the data was due to chance or to a variable that was actually tested. This test helps us determine if our data is significant or non significant. In this lab the plant being used was the common garden pea (Pisum sativum), the first thing done was to scan the phenotypes of each parental and first generation offspring; which was homozygous dominant ( P1), homozygous recessive (P2) for parental types, and heterozygous (F1) for first generation offspring. Next step is to indicate the F2 sample by using a + for dominant and for recessive phenotype. This was done by making a chi chart that expressed all the phenotype characteristics for Parental traits to 60 generations of offspring traits. Afterward data was combined with class data to determine the statistical analysis for all the samples. • 34. Differences Between American Colonies And New England... The American colonies were a diverse and interesting people. The colonies are typically split between the New England colonies and the Southern colonies. While both sets of colonies would eventually make up what is now the original thirteen colonies of the United States, they both had their similarities and differences. What led to the differences of the two sets of colonies and how were they similar? This question was relevant then and it is relevant in today s world. The southern colonies were mainly controlled by an elite class of planters that owned the most land and had the most slaves. Below them were the small farmers that had a few slaves and much smaller plots of land and at the bottom were the landless white people. This social ladder made up the economic and political worlds in the south. The planters were the most powerful politically and the most wealthy. This is in sharp contrast to the New England colonies that were more focused on preserving a familial line and focused on their families rather than on the next crop growth. For many, the country of Turkey is the crucible of this region where the intersections of the main religious and cultural elements collide. Additionally, as a crossroads to Europe from Asia, Africa and the entire Middle East, Turkey remains an inherently important country due to its strategic geographic location. The pressures that are exerted on Turkey over the past century have led many within its borders to question its allegiances and the destiny of the country. Should it maintain the status quo based on the post WWI political borders or should it pursue a return to times of the Ottoman Empire when it sat as the seat of power for what many would consider the Caliphate that presided over those lands at the time? As a strategic crossroads in many aspects, Turkey will remain important to United States policy in the region. It s his use of ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices and follies to scorn (Merriam Webster.com). Mark Twain s approach to prove his hypothesis that; man is at the bottom of evolution, is enticing but not successful. The purpose of the reading for Mark Twain was to show: That the human race is of one distinct species. That other animals also more or less distinct and that they are in the procession. They are links in the chain which stretches down from the higher animals to man at the bottom (Twain). He eases his readers into his claims strategically by presenting his facts and findings. He frantically unravels as he depicts his findings to show the believed evidence as he attempts to stake his claim. He vexes in an attempt to persuade the reader from the beginning with his experiment of the anaconda and the English Earl . Showing how the hunters killed many buffalo for theater of the Earl and only consumed part of one leaving the rest of the buffalo to rot (Twain). While the anaconda on the other hand was presented with multiple calves and only killed one in entirely, leaving the rest unharmed or bothered (Twain). Here Twain uses logos as proof to support his claim with his experiments and findings. He also uses pathos to enrage his reader in the sheer waste that the human man can produce but as everyone knows not all men are created equal. In one of his examples he speaks of a two cages (Twain). One filled with assorted animals the other with different men from different religions and locations (Twain). He hopes to prove how animals very quickly learned the most basic survival technique to cohabitate where the man did not. He lacks logos, as the man is an intellectual species and has evolved, surpassing other animals. The animals do not wear clothes, nor do they choose how they present themselves and what ... The world that Rand creates has few differences from reality at its start, but as the story progresses, real world ideologies are taken to the extreme, and societal collapse appears to be imminent. Rand does not ignore sexism; she merely refuses to overplay it. One of the rare mentions of Dagny s gender in her work is found on page 771, where Bertram Scudder introduces Dagny on his talk show with, the last descendant of an illustrious name in our industrial history, the woman executive possible only in America. This comment is brief, and appears harmless, but there is a deeper significance within it. Scudder uses the words, only possible in America, to attribute Dagny s success to her circumstance, detaching it from her own effort. This is one of the ways that several characters in the book justify their prejudice against anyone who is better off than them; they attribute any achievement or detriment to circumstance, minimizing the accomplishments of others and excusing their own behavior. The characters who exhibit gender bias against Dagny are not limited to men. In fact, much of the sexism of which she is subject comes from other women. Readers are exposed to this in a brief encounter with a minor character named Betty Pope, who expresses her disdain for Dagny, calling her a grease monkey. . .posing around like a big executive, (Rand, 73). She then comments on Dagny s femininity, or lack thereof, implying that running a railroad is a task that is beneath a proper woman.
