Robert Sedgewick s Passion Is Computers Technology
Robert Sedgewick s passion is computers technology and was gifted with the proficiencies to teach it
to ambitious students. Robert Sedgewick began his career in computer science at IBM and is presently
a professor at Princeton University. Sedgewick has written over 16 books computer science algorithms
and various programming languages processes and procedures. Sedgewick first book in 1982, simply
titled Algorithms cover compilers technology, and was followed by Algorithms 2nd Edition,
Algorithms in C, Algorithms in Modular 3, Algorithms in C++, Algorithms in Java and Introduction to
Java Programming. Sedgewick has introduce new editions to these books as technology has evolved

Data Structure queues methods and abstract data types are included in this elementary slot. ( 2, 3, 4,
5,6, 7)
Robert s defined abstract data type as the algorithms operations that are preformed rather than
implemented the data structure and algorithms operating on it should refer to anything inside, except
through function and procedure calls for the fundamental operations. The main reason for the
development of abstract data types has been as a mechanism for organizing large programs. Abstract
data types provide a way to limit the size and complexity of the interface between (potentially
complicated) algorithms and associated data structures and a potentially large number of programs
that use the algorithms and data structures, making it easier to understand large program and more
convenient to change or improve the fundamental algorithms .(2:pg30)
Arrays and linked list are refinements of a basic abstract data type called the linear list, because each
can support operations such as insert, delete and access on a basic sequentially data ordered structure.
These operation suffice to describe the algorithms and the linear list abstraction can be useful in the
initial states of algorithms development. Using the wrong algorithm like a

Three Laws Of Robotics
The Three Laws of Robotics were formulated by Isaac Asimov with the aim of creating a trusted
protection of humans from robots and vice versa. However, Asimov s short stories quite usually
challenge the rules that he has created. This essay will discuss three Asimov short stories that present
us with certain flaws in regards to the Three Laws of Robotics. The three stories will be Liar! ,
Runaround , and That Thou Art Mindful of Him . Through Liar! , Asimov is able to question the
meaning of harm, he is thus able to show that a problem will arise when considering what sort of harm
robots can protect us from. Through the short story Runaround , Asimov questions the importance of
each Law, creating scenarios in which a robot has to disobey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this short story, it is seen that a development which is meant to enhance the ability of robots to
adhere to the Three Laws leads to the opening of a whole new realm of problems. Keith Harriman,
director of US Robots, explains that a certain model of robots is being reproduced to have the ability
to weigh every human being giving it an order in terms of factors such as age, gender and intelligence
(Asimov 1974: 609 610). Understandably, this supposed improvement to the robot is meant to ensure
that the robots ability to follow the rules is improved. More specifically, it is meant to strengthen their
adherence to the Second Law, which states, A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings
except where such orders would conflict with the First Law (Asimov 1974: page 605). However, in
practice, this development would actually break the First Law of Robotics. Keith Harriman states, A
robot they say, has no right to brand this person or that person as inferior. By accepting the orders of A
in preference to that of B, B is branded as of less consequence than A and his human rights are
violated. (Asimov 1974: page 609) This statement illustrates that a robot that follows an order of one
human being in favour of another, would be breaking the First Law of Robotics because the other
human being would feel inferior and would be

Apocalypto Summary
of Apocalypto Set in Mexico s Yucatan peninsula (Central America), during the 16th century, Mel
Gibson s, Apocalypto follows the journey of a Mayan villager by the name of Jaguar Paw . This
adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie was
historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The appearance of the
Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair, outlandish headdresses, burn
scars, and tattoos. It didn t delve into the every day life enough for it to be accurate, or inaccurate. The
opening scenes consisted of hunting, and a village campfire, and that s as far as it went for daily life.

All in all, the movie was fun to watch. It was exciting and had a lot of great action. I liked it about ten
times better than I originally thought I was going to. I wish it would have more accurately portrayed
how the warriors would have captured the village members instead of them being violently hammered
to death. Apocalypto helped me to better understand the Maya sacrifices, but I still question the way
they rolled the sacrifices decapitated heads down the pyramid temple. Bibliography 1. Various.

Jill Conner Browne and St Patrick s Day Parade
Jill Conner Browne was born in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1952; however, she Ms. Browne spent her
childhood in Jackson, Mississippi. She has a sister named Judy. Ms. Browne is a mother of one child
whose name is Bailey.
In 1982, after the death of her father and a divorce from her husband, Ms. Browne felt a void in her
life. She looked for something to make her whole and happy, and she met a man named Malcom
White. He was putting on the very first St. Patrick Day s Parade. Browne said, It s not like there s a
whole bunch of Irish people here; I happen to be one, but purely coincidental. I think it was more of
an excuse to drink and drive. Ms. Browne said that one of her many talents were to smile and wave.
Browne said, Daddy told us that there s not many things in life you really and truly cannot change, but
when you do encounter one, you got to figure out either how to make fun out of it or make fun of it.
Having a friend whose father had a sweet potato farm in Vardaman, Mississippi, Ms. Browne told her
friend she was going to enter the St. Patrick Day s Parade as the Sweet Potato Queen not knowing that
her friend was also entering the parade as a Sweet Potato Queen, therefore they were called the Sweet
Potato Queens. They wore outfits from the Goodwill cast offs. Ms. Browne wore her sister s 1964
prom dress, and a tiny tiara she purchased from Hancock Fabrics.

Comparative Character Analysis of Classical vs. Modern...
Comparative Character Analysis of Classical Vs. Modern Tragic Protagonists.
A hero/ heroine is described as the principal male/ female character in a literary or dramatic work or
the central figure in an event, period, or movement. The classic tragic hero was defined by Aristotle in
the fourth century as, someone who is highly renowned and prosperous (LATWP, 639), suggesting
that there is a natural right ordering and proportion of traits within the human being that if violated,
produces calamity (LATWP, 639). The book goes on to define classical tragedy as one that involves
the inevitable destruction of a noble person by means of character flaw, usually a disproportionate
measure of a specific human attribute such as pride, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Wright s environment where she was continuously broken down by her husband was probably a
far cry from where she had imagined herself to be. Mrs. Hale repeatedly brought up how different
Mrs. Wright was when she was Minnie Foster, I wish you d seen Minnie Foster when she wore a
white dress with blue ribbons and stood up there in the choir and sang (Glaspell, 962). Implying that
this now submissive, nervous woman who was Mrs. Wright was more a product of the environment
she found herself which denied her the fulfillment of being who she actually was. So, tragic heroes
can either be classic, or modern. Both however, are driven by their beliefs. One is such a way that they
would risk all to back up what they believe in, as in the case of

The Influence Of Sociological Criminology On Human Behavior
Since ancient times, males have always gone against laws in the society. The beliefs of sociological
criminology in the environment have prevented its attempts to prove this theory. The neurohormonal
changes between male and female individuals tell more about behavioral differences as they apply to
crime and defiance. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation research in 1992, men
constituted 89% of the violent arrest crimes and 76% of the property crimes arrests. Up to date, the
trend has not changed as men continue to be found on the wrong side of the law compared to their
female counterparts. Despite the research found, sociological criminology has failed to provide
enough evidence on its emphasis on environmentalism.
Genetics influence our behavior in many ways, for instance, the r/K`s hypothesis importance to
wrongdoing and aberrance is the used technique covaries with numerous inheritable characteristics
valuable in support of that system. Vast numbers of the traits helpful in support of the r procedure
(example animosity, sensation chasing) are decidedly identified with introverted conduct, and
numerous qualities valuable in the upkeep of the K technique (example charitableness, nurturance),
are adversely recognized with reserved behavior. Men display r chose characteristics to a more
noteworthy level than women (e.g., bring down parental speculation, shorter development time, higher
unsuccessful labor and neonatal death rates, higher fruitfulness potential,

Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay
Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately find
yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes, month
by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able to truly
appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily deduct that the
theme of A Sand County Almanac is very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings tell us to pause for
a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us.
Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold wants
society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a descriptive glance at
elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals foraging for food or the history
of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word conserve as to, protect (something,
especially something of environmental or cultural importance) from harm or destruction ( Conserve ).
Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more aware of the importance of conservation.
When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the
environment. On the contrary, if one is able to truly appreciate nature, he or she is much more
conscious about the

Specie Plea Essay
A Specie s Plea
Hello! Sorry I didn t see you there. Oh, you do not know who I am? Then I might as well introduce
myself. Obviously, you may think that I am a monkey because that is mostly the general term that
everyone would use when seeing animals like me. However, I am not a monkey because monkeys
have tails; do you see a tail on me? No right? Therefore, I am not a monkey. Then what am I? I am an
ape, and yes, we are much more different from monkeys. Let me elaborate more on my features that
would help you in distinguishing us, apes, from monkeys.
Aside from the aforementioned, one distinct feature that separates us from monkeys is our size. We
have a larger bone and body structure compared to monkeys. Along with this, we have a bigger brain

Oh! I just remembered, how foolish of me not to formally introduce myself and most importantly, my
specie. So let us do that first if you do not mind. I am Seraiah and I am a Bonobo ape. I, along with
my family, live in the continent of Africa around the areas of Congo and Zaire (Stanford, 1998). I live
in a rainforest specifically in Congo with abundant amounts of food, mostly vegetation because that is
what we like eating (André et al., 2016; Donovan, 2011; Miller, 2007). This rainforest is where I grew
up in and I will never ask for a better place. The air around me or the climate is humid, perfect for us,
Bonobos. The scenery is, and will always be, breathtaking. There are different varieties of trees with
different heights everywhere you look (Oddizzi, 2004). The green color that greets me at each turn,
and the sound of different animals from crickets to birds is like an invitation for me to relax and just
enjoy life with my family. The best part of my home is the tiny swamp just a few meters away. We
love going in the water regularly just to relax, but we do not swim, not at all (André et al.,

What Is The Theme Of Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park Theme Essay In the movie, Jurassic Park, released in the year 1993, dinosaurs are
brought back to existence and turned into an amusement park intended for human pleasure. Jurassic
Park tells a story of dinosaurs that are scientifically created to be used as a tourist attraction for
individuals. However, this amazing attraction goes fatally wrong when the dinosaurs escape their
habitats resulting in the deaths of many people on the island. This film warns viewers against current
and future practices humans are involved in while attempting to control and exploit nature. Over the
course of history, humans have attempted to control and define nature in numerous ways. For
example, in modern times people try to predict the weather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Today, there are several other things that are taken advantage of besides the ways science can affect
nature. Humans have a tendency of taking advantage of other humans. An example of this factor is
when people try to use other people for money. To some individuals this may seem like a good idea at
first, however, this idea can back fire when the people who had gotten taken advantage of get angry.
The said actions can even result in a fight. Another example of something that is taken advantage of in
modern time is technology. Technology is used for practically everything in present time (as it was in
Jurassic Park). This causes humans to become very attached and dependent on every aspect of
technology. For instance, if a person s phone or laptop were to ever crash, he or she would think it was
the end of the world. The person than would not be able to do his or her schoolwork, job work, or
communicate with others; this leaving the individual devastated and lost. The final thing that
individuals in modern time have a tendency of taking advantage of is their freedom. Currently there
are many riots and protests throughout the United States that citizens participate in because they have
the free right. However, they are numerous other individuals who do not have this kind of freedom in
their country. In other countries, some people are killed for just voicing their opinions. The ending
result of taking advantage of any advancement can cause unexpected and catastrophic results in
present time or in future

My Family And My Favorite Essay
The first week of every August my family and I go to Leavenworth, Washington. We have been going
for the past 10 years. We stay for a week. We love attending the live summer musicals. The Sound of
Music has to be my favorite. Monday August 3, 2015 my family and I went to go play putt put golf at
the Icicle Creek Inn. We played until my grandparents and my older sister arrived in town. When they
arrived at the putt put golf, we finished our game. We sat down, talked and laughed. We decided to go
back to our condo to swim. When we arrived at the condo my dad unlocked the door. My younger
sister and dad and I were inside first. All of a sudden my older sister yells Oma fell!!! (We call my
grandma Oma ). My grandma had fallen on the cement sidewalk. I didn t think much of it. I was
thinking to myself Everything will be alright, She will just get back up. My mom yells OMG,
someone call 911! I rush back outside and call 911. I looked down at my grandma. She was bleeding
on her forehead. She had dirt and blood all over on her hands and knees. My mom and dad were
kneeling next to her holding her asking her questions. Mom are you alright? Mom can you hear me?
She was shaking her head no as her face started to turn blue and her eyes started to roll to the back of
her head. She was trying to communicate with us that she couldn t breathe. My sister and I were

What Does Yada Mean
The biblical concept comes from the use of the word Yada , which means to know. I personally really
enjoy that word or better yet, the loftiness in the way the hebrews used words. I said to myself
sometime today before I viewed the lecture that the term love has become almost dead in my
vocabulary. Our culture has abused it.
Anyway, Yada means to know, but in their culture, you don t truly know someone unless you have a a
very personal and intimate relationship. A close, warm, passionate intimacy was was a must or you
didn t know someone. Relating this concept, our knowing God, to divine revelation.
Through God s love profoundly expressed through Jesus s coming, living, and dying for us on the
cross, we see the han God has for us.

The War On Afghanistan And Iraq
The war on Afghanistan and Iraq was a learning experience for the United States foreign policy. On
September 11th, 2001 nineteen Al Qaeda members hijacked four planes, two of which crashed into the
world trade center, another into the pentagon and the last into Shanksville, Pennsylvania (Scholastic).
The man who was behind this attack was Osama bin Laden and with refusal to hand him over, the
United States quickly prompted an attack on Afghanistan. The second war which began in 2003 was
due to the belief that Saddam Hussein had acquired weapons of mass destruction which was a direct
threat to the safety of the United States, in addition there were also claims that Saddam Hussein had
ties with Al Qaeda and was being supported by Osama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war in Afghanistan which has become the longest war in American history has also become one
of the most expensive war in history behind the war in Iraq, which justifies the idea that the United
States is unable to manage their expenses and resources in times of war. The war which has lasted for
thirteen years along with two years of soldiers still stationed in Afghanistan has caused America to
invest a lot into the war against terror. The cost of the Afghanistan war alone has reached almost 1
trillion dollars and counting. The Money has been used for military defense, medical aid,
reconstruction, and post war relief (PBS). All of these expenses are from tax payer s dollars and
money that was borrowed and comes with a hefty amount of interest, 124 billion dollars already paid
(CNBC). A total of almost two trillion dollars was borrowed and was approximately 20% of the total
United States debt (Global Research). During this war money was not being spent effectively, one
example includes 6.5 million dollars on communication towers that were never used. For the
reconstruction of Afghanistan approximately 104 billion dollars was used and a billions of dollars lost
due to wasteful spending, fraud and corruption (MSNBC). Exact values cannot even be placed on
where the money went exactly and how much was really lost because the costs were never detailed by
the government and further exemplifies the idea that the United States is unable to manage their
spending

Essay On 80 s Culture
Culture of the 80s
The 1980s represented a change known as the glory days, something no one has seen since the 1920s.
The exciting fast paced lifestyle is what captured most americans hearts. Life in general brought
something new to society between new consumer goods and expanding cultures. In the end the 80s
brought music, dance, television, movies, famous figures, and literature that would forever shape
America.
Changes in music were inspired by social and political issues at the time. It was most definitely a
politically charged decade:cold war, unemployment, poverty in homes. Many artists used music as a
form of escapism and or to get a point across. In 1981 MTV launched its first music video, Video

Famous movies for kids were GI JOE, Smurfs, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. These films brought in
a large amount of revenue that companies decided to make action figures of their characters. Many
family sitcoms were made especially for the families such as, Growing Pains, Alf, The Cosby Show
and many more. Hollywood had plenty of money from 1980s movies, but they wanted to convert
americans money into cold, hard cash. The most famous 80s classic movies were The Little Mermaid
and The Color Purple. Writers and producers new just how to make something from scratch and turn it
into a masterpiece for everyone to enjoy and love.
Famous political and social figures were very important in their 80s because they sculpted the culture
in today s era. Sticking through scandal and triumph, tragedy and joy, we re left with a decade full of
memorable figures, some of which have broken through the millennium barrier and are still with us

Doctrine of Double Effect Essay
Alecia Rhines
Doctrine of Double Effect
Trident University
What is the Doctrine of Double Effect?
The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a
serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is
claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a good
result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the
same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is permissible to bring
about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be impermissible to bring about
intentionally (Uniacke 1984). It is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scanlon s View on the Doctrine of Double Effect Scanlon explores the ethical significance of the
intentions and motives with which people act. According to Scanlon, these intentions and motives do
not have any direct bearing on the permissibility of the act. Thus, Scanlon claims that the traditional
Doctrine of Double Effect is mistaken. However, the way in which someone is motivated to act has

Jacob Riis Social Reform Movement
As photography was being used more and more as a method of documentation, they were among the
first to use it to push social reform efforts. They closely documented the devastating effects of
industrialization and urbanization on the working class American. Through their work they brought
attention to the need for housing and (child) labor laws. They used their medium to bring real proof to
the public and legislators, where it needed to be seen. Actually, instead of documentary photography, it
may best be called social reform photography, as they both worked tirelessly and used the medium to
force attention and to effect social change.
Riis used photography to illustrate his social reform documentary writing, he was not originally a

Analysis Of The Hand Tool And Cutlery Manufacturing...
On first glance of the Hand tool and cutlery manufacturing industry one might think narrow minded
and say this industry is for construction and construction only. At least that is what came to my mind
upon randomly selecting the industry from a basket in my advanced marketing management class.
However, upon researching into this industry one will realize how vast this industry is and for this
report we will focus on this industry in the United States. For instance, in everyday life we use or at
least own things that make up a part of this industry such as vacuums, lawnmowers, kitchen knives,
and even jewelry to name a few. Yes, it also includes power tools and yes construction company s do
play a big role as buyers in this industry but they are not the leading players and consumers. So who
are the major players that purchase from this industry? Well big time company s such as Home Depot,
Walmart, and Sears play a vital role in the success of the hand tool and cutlery manufacturing industry
and losing one of these top dogs would certainly impact the companies that make up the industry
which leads me to my next discussion in the introduction. Who makes up the industry? Who are the
key suppliers? When looking into the industry s major players in the US I turned to Ibis World.com
and they stated The Procter and Gamble Company, Stanley Black and Decker Inc., Edgewell Personal
Care Co, and Snap on Inc. These are the power houses in the industry. The remainder of this report

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two
years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and
happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be

Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time
before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was
content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly
accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a
miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health,
and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto
me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two
effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of
bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock
me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather
great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common
pursuits.

Lab Report Essay
When Kate and I showed up to set up our new classroom before the new school year, and we discover
the people before left a group of chemicals unlabelled. So to not waste supplies, we as experienced
chemists must determine their identities so we can use them. My partner, Kate and I must identify a
set of unknown chemicals with the knowledge we acquire by testing a set of known solutions and
seeing if they form precipitation reactions, if yes what color do they turn. We will known if combining
the solutions creates a reaction if one of the products is in a solid state. To determine the identities, we
must conduct an experiment. Before doing anything, we will put our safety goggles and make sure
there is no food and drink in the testing area. Then we will add drop of a known solution and another
known solution to see if a reaction occurs. We will repeat this action and collect a database, then we
will compare the results to the data of the unknown substances. With both sets of data we will be able

First of all, solution A has a awful smell that Ammonium Hydroxide also has. Also both Ammonium
Hydroxide and solution A are clear solutions. Finally, they react to the known substances similarly.
When we mixed solution A with Copper II Sulfate a blue precipitate formed, which was what
happened we mixed Copper II Sulfate with Ammonium Hydroxide. When we mixed Iron III Chloride
with Ammonium Hydroxide and solution A separating a precipitate that was foggy clearish formed.
Also when mixed with Magnesium Sulfate both Ammonium Hydroxide and solution A do not react,
therefore mixing Magnesium Sulfate with those compounds doesn t cause a double displacement
reaction. Of course testing solution A and Ammonium Hydroxide with more chemicals side by side
would give us more confidence in our answer, but Kate and I are highly confident in our answer

Analysis Of The Novel Franny And Zooey By J.d. Salinger
Human life is a blend of myriad of emotions. Our emotions add facets to our humanity they give us
dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual beings we are. People go through both
good and rough times. While some persevere through these times, some crack and acquire fissures. In
the novella Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar identity and
existential crisis which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality of the world
surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself from the world along
the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is looking for can only be achieved by
detaching herself from her life, the things that matter the most to her, starting anew, shows her
dogmatic approach to self purification. In seeking union with reality which is what the mystical
experience is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her ending up stranded in a
perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self discovery. Driven by the notion
that everything and everyone she knows is selfish and phony, Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion
and monastic living. She is influenced by her brother Seymour s way of life, his philosophies and the
book The Way of A Pilgrim she finds on his desk. The book recounts the story of a Russian monk who
goes around ceaselessly saying the name of God in hopes of connecting more closely with

Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll Dramatic Techniques
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, by Ray Lawler was a bottling performance. A highly effective use of
lighting, set design, props and additional sensory stimulus; were powerful tools in creating a realistic
production. The skilful use of the elements of drama; human context; language, movement, mood and
dramatic tension, enabled the audience to relate to the characters and plot. The development of sub
plots also added to the creation of a realistic performance, by mirroring the human condition. Through
the effective use of these dramatic techniques; Neil Armfield was successful in creating a realistic

Olive and Pearl had a somewhat odd friendship at the beginning of the play, Olive tried desperately to
make her standard of life seem fit to the much more classy Pearl. However as their situations unfold, it
is made clear that much of this class in Pearl is surface level only. We learn her husband has left her
and she has a problem daughter. After learning this Olive seems to warm much more easily to Pearl,
possibly reflecting Olive s insecurity around people of a higher class.
Neil Armfield was highly successful in implementing the elements of drama, especially those of
movement, mood, language and tension. All characters within Summer of the Seventeenth Doll
created realistic mood to portray their respective characters. As the summer progressed, the mood
changed dramatically, from the bubbly highs of the first meeting, demonstrated mainly by Olive s
nervous excitement in the moments before the arrival of Roo and Barney; to the depressive goodbye
demonstrated again by Olive when she clears the entire house. When juxtaposed to the mood of the
previous sixteen summers, the audience was able to see from the beginning that this summer was
going to be different; through strong use of mood it was clear that this would be the last of the
summers. While movement was in the most part realistic, the actors did lapse in this area occasionally;
this was most evident in the fight scene between Roo and Barney. However the most

Political Influences Of Alexander Pope
One of the most influential poets of the 17th and 18th centuries, Alexander Pope significantly
influenced classical poetry through his didactic and satirical works. Born in 1688, Pope began his life
already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were practicing
Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander wasn t able to
attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the challenge, Pope taught
himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at the age of twelve (Masters
in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Pope was able to write about his own experiences with
Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as Illiad and The Odyssey where he
included some of his own ideas in their writing (notable biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the
writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on his own life and the situations around him
for inspiration and support.
In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical question
was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse. (slideshare). This time
period was led by Alexander Pope because of his early start into writing and his continued works
throughout his life. Pope and most poets/authors of the time wrote with reason over feelings and were
typically written in rhymes and heroic couplets.

Evaluating Football Players
Evaluating Football Players Essay
by
D. Cummings It may seem overly simplified and obvious to state that player evaluation is critical in
generating success and wins on the football field. A coach may have the greatest system and an
amazing game plan laid out but, without the right players in the right positions the only thing a coach
will collect are losses. This is true of coaching recreational and youth football through the professional
ranks. Player evaluation is not only about addressing the physical skills needed for specific positions
but, it is also about plugging in the right players who posses the temperament and character to lead the
team in all critical situations on the field. Coach Trimble has a very ... Show more content on

The first thing a coach at the youth level evaluates is the physical ability of the players. Timed sprints,
agility drills, and ball handling (catching and throwing) drills give a coach a baseline of data to work
from after the first practice. Coach Trimble has a staff that can handle the collection of most of this
type of data. A coach at the lower levels may not have any assistant coaches and needs to be prepared
to be the sole collector of raw data and anecdotal notes on each player. If at all possible, youth coaches
should try to illicit help from parents in collecting data.
Tracking and collecting player information and data can be done using a good old fashion clip board
and paper however, there are a number of outstanding apps for both iPhone and Android systems that
enable a coach to track and maintain up to date player statistics. Nextplay is excellent app that has a
good reputation for helping coaches stay on top of player development but, it requires a monthly
subscription if you want to use it beyond the initial try out period. iGrade is another quality app for
coaches to use in the evaluation of players and provides other helpful coach friendly functions.
It should be obvious after the first practice which players have have a general aptitude for the skilled
positions. Continued collection of data from drills and sprints should be used to confirm

The Theme Of Fate In I Am Mordred
Fate in I Am Mordred
The idea that fate is inevitable manifests itself throughout the Arthurian legend I am Mordred. Fate s a
predestined fortune that is supposedly inevitable. (fate) The question of changing fate prevails as an
underlying theme in the book. Characters lives and choices revolve around the idea of their
predetermined destiny. It proves difficult to decide whether fate is escapable or not.
From the beginning of the book Mordred s fate plays a key factor in characters actions. The king s
advisor Merlin prophesied Mordred to kill his father, King Arthur, when he reaches the age of
seventeen. When the prologue starts King Arthur s sacrificing all the male babies in the kingdom who
were born on May Day, including Mordred. This will supposedly change the fate prophesized for them
according to his advisor Merlin. But Merlin had spoken: Let all male babies of the nobility born on
May Day be brought to the shore. That was the sort of thing that happened when the King did wrong
(Springer Vii). King Arthur thought by doing this he had managed to avoid his predestined doom. As
soon as chapter one starts, it reveals one baby out of the forty brought to sea managed to survive. That
one baby was King Arthur s son, Mordred. He was saved by a couple who lived by the sea. They raise
him as their own and he becomes a part of their fisher family. At this point Mordred has not managed
to escape his fate and King Arthur hasn t either.

Similarities Between Muir And Wordsworth s Relationship...
Henry David Thoreau once said, It s not what you look at that matters, it s what you see. William
Wordsworth, the author of the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, and John Muir, author of the
essay The Calypso Borealis, have proved this in their works by looking at nature and portraying it
differently but beautifully in each piece. They have been able to express their relationships with nature
differently through choices about format, such as if a rhyme scheme will be used; their word choice,
like choosing to give something a specific name; as well as through literary devices used, including
tone, mood, and irony, but, even though they made many different choices, their works are both able
to make nature seem beautiful and mysterious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the most noticeable difference in the two pieces is the tone and somewhat in mood. The
atmosphere Muir creates in his essay evolves as it goes on. When he first begins describing his
experience looking for the Calypso Borealis, he seems to be having a lot of trouble with his
environment, causing him to see nature in a negative way and be fearful of it. This is demonstrated
well in this quote from paragraph two where he says he was struggling through tangled and drooping
branches However, after he sees the Calypso Borealis he completely changes his view on nature and
seems to respect it more and enjoy being in it more than he did before. You can see this as early as
paragraph one where he is reflecting on his time botanising in glorious freedom . Wordsworth, on the
other hand, always has the same opinion on nature; he sees it as a beautiful force and as something to
observe and not to interfere with. He demonstrates this when he describes nature such as fluttering and
dancing in the breeze or when he talks about sparkling waves of glee . The way Muir describes nature
and the fact that his point of view changes as he spends more time in it once again makes it seem like
he sees nature more like an equal. He recognizes that just because it seemed dangerous at first, it does
not necessarily mean that it is. It appears that he sees nature like a person or a companion more than
like an outside force.

Analysis Of The Book The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel things in the world are done in the name of love. But in what face of love are these acts
fulfilled through? Is it through friendship? Or mere affection? Perhaps lust? Or, though unlikely,
unconditional love? The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. Every relationship
in this book is unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love factor.
Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. One
can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of
the word love. That being said, Lewis saw the same inconsistencies and decided to dissect the
meaning of love in his book The Four Loves. He connected many of findings to the characters
throughout Till We Have Faces who portray elements of the four different loves: Storge, Philia, Eros,
and Agape. Each of these loves plays a crucial part in the plot of the story. Storge, Greek for affection,
is a love in which physical features don t play a part in its existence. An example would be a love for a
family member or close friend. (Four Loves 31 32) In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and
heroine of the novel is loved by Psyche, her younger sister; the Fox, a Greek slave and father figure,
also loves Orual even though she is ugly. (Faces 11) Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a very special bond

Jennifer Nielsen author of A Night Divided, False Prince,The Runaway King, and The Shadow Throne
is an author that tells stories from real life experiences that her or a very close family member or
friend have lived or encountered. As I have not read any other book from MS. Nielsen, I would like to
after having read this book. As Gerta begins to tell her story she describes Germany as being a cold
and dark place. Not many decisons are to be made by people themselfs but rather the government.
With governments starting to divide people are starting to flee East Berlin to head West. As the people
were being told what to do, families started to become more catious as to what they did. Curfwes were
set and certain jobs were given to certain people. A wall went up to keep East Berlin seperated from
the West. When a young man turned 18 he was required by Germany law to join their military, those
that did not were punished. School aged children where required to attend what was called the
Pinoers. This group was to teach young children how to obey the East Berlin laws. Gerta and Anna
(Gertas best friend) attended school together and were very close until Annas brother Peter tried to
escape East Berlin. This crime was punishable by death. Fritz Gertas brother knew of his plan to
escape but didn t tell anyone except Gerta. Not telling the government could also be punishable by
death if the statsi found out. Anna became closed off and from Gerta and began to withdraw

Analysis Of The Movie Memoirs Of A Geisha
Both Rob Marshall and Warwick Thornton have very distinctive and different directory movie styles.
However, In memoirs of a Geisha (Directed by Rob Marshall) and Samson Delilah (Directed by
Warwick Thornton) Both Warwick and Marshall are able to communicate their ideas of exploitation
similarly through a variety of shots and film techniques. These techniques are used in great succession
and are able to capture the audience to sympathize with these characters at their lowest points.
A scene in Samson Delilah that truly captured the essence of exploitation in modern day Australia was
a scene where Delilah tries to sell her artwork to an Aboriginal art gallery. The character Delilah as
previously mentioned is a fourteen year old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is then promptly shifted behind delilah with an over the shoulder shot and is quickly
glanced at by the art exhibitionist. We then hear I m not interested as we watch his attention drift back
to his computer. As the viewer we are all promptly taken back by this and can t help but sympathize
with Delilah. My immediate thought after this occurred was Why was Delilah dismissed so quickly?
This isn t fair! which I believe Warwick Thornton wanted his audiences to think. Warwick managed to
subtly instill discomfort into his viewers by putting us in a situation we can t help but feel
uncomfortable and sympathetic in which was used in great succession. We then switch back to where
the art exhibtionist is standing and watch as Delilah walks off emcombringly out of the shot as there is
a sharp focus on her while exiting. Once delilah has vanished out of the shot we are quickly
transitioned to the next scene as we see Delilah sitting on a hill looking off into the distance. We then
transition and see two school girls sitting on a bench. One with on her phone and the other eating ice
cream. The camera than shifts focus from these two unknown school girls to Delilah who s watching
in the background. This shot stays on Delilah for 7 seconds and I believe that this is very significant.
As previously mentioned Delilah does not look like she fits in, in fact based on her

The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films
Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the creation of the horror
genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts at horror movies, it certainly shaped the
genre into what it is today and made it accessible to global audiences. The appearance of horror
movies happens in cycles with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears, delivers thrills to
the audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are made, or original
films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are produced. Eventually, the market
becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. As the 1980s came to a close, the American horror film
seemed locked into an endless loop of formulaic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie industry in hopes of
collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romero s Night of the Living Dead was made in 2004, in
2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the
remake of Hitchcock s Psycho and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in 2017.
Hantke calls this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some of these
films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to the loss of originality and
the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the basis of every successful horror film. The next
step for the challenged horror industry was the process of transnationalization searching for inspiration
outside familiar borders, more specifically turning to East Asia. The initial phase of J horror s rising
popularity in the United States, for example, was largely driven by a search, on the part of hardcore
fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of horror film. (Hantke 12) However, Hantke states that this
is not an isolated phenomenon, since Hollywood has always thrived

Lucky Alice Sebold Analysis
I quickly changed after that day. It was a scorching summer day, and we got dispatched out for a
motorcycle accident. We had to land the life flight because the accident was so awful. I was around
fourteen years old and I never saw anyone pass away before. The ambulance heaved up, and the crew
of the helicopter came running over. The guy was a bloody chaos, and he was having a rigid time
staying alive. They underwent rolling him over to the helicopter when he passes away. I and the other
firefighters were holding tarps up so the mob of society couldn t see him as the EMT s performed
CPR. They kept pushing down on his chest for a while until they finally announced that he was
deceased. He had major bleeding on the inside and out. That day I saw someone just fade. I realized at
that point how lucky I was to be alive. I may not have gone through the same change as Alice Sebold
did, but that made me see things from a different perspective. I definitely don t understand what Alice
went through and she is a very strong individual. In the novel Lucky by Alice Sebold, Alice could
consider herself lucky by not being murdered, seeing her rapist again, getting justice, and starting her
life over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the rapist had a knife and he could ve killed her. You don t get it bitch. I ll kill you. I ve got a
knife (18). She is lucky that she was able to struggle and get the knife out of his hand. From the
actions that he did to her, such as punching her in the back of the head, it seemed as if he d actually
kill her. He sat on my back. He pounded my skull into the brick (19). Alice was lucky that he didn t try
to suffocate her. I feel if she didn t listen to his commands, then she wouldn t have been as lucky as
some say. Therefore, Alice is lucky she wasn t

Arthur Lubow Research Paper
In 2003, Arthur Lubow wrote an article in the New York Times titled, The Secret of the Black
Paintings. He believes that Goya s Black Paintings were actually painted by someone else. The Black
Paintings ornamented the wall of Goya s Quinta del Sordo. Art Historian, Junquera, studied the Black
Paintings, and, given the evidence, he believes they were actually painted by Goya s son, Javier. Javier
was a businessman, not a painter, so he probably sold his paintings as his fathers to make extra money.
Another clue that they were not painted by Goya is that they are more modern than his other pieces.
The style that they were painted in emerged after Goya s death. No visitors of Quinta del Sordo
reported seeing them. No sad, dark paintings

Yes. At the point in the center, the acceleration drops to zero and changes direction when the velocity

I agree that the clock will lose time at the higher altitude. The acceleration due to gravity decreases
which means the frequency will decrease which means the angular frequency will decrease resulting
in a loss of time.
As the clock is moved further from the center of the earth, it loses time. This is because the
acceleration from gravity decreases more and more as higher altitudes are reached. This decrease in
the acceleration due to gravity leads us to believe that the frequency and the angular frequency
decrease as well which all relate to one other and cause time to be lost.
The clock would lose time because as the value of g decreases, the period increases.
When the clock is moved away from sea level gravity would slightly decrease causing the clock to
lose time. Pendulums are the most accurate at sea level.
How has this affected the natural vibration frequencies of buildings and the problems of resonance due
to passing trucks, airplanes, or by wind and other natural sources of vibration?
Give 2 reasons why circular water waves decrease in amplitude as they travel away from the source?
1 because as it moves the energy gets spread to near by praticales
2 because of the circle gets bigger the energy is spread all the way threw the ripple which has grown

Stroke Prevention
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States (National Stroke Association, 2010).
Stroke is also a leading cause of disability. Approximately every 40 seconds someone in the United
States has a stroke which is about 795,000 per year (National stroke Association, 2010). The incidence
of stroke makes it a major health problem in the United States. Prevention and early intervention is the
key to reducing death and disability from stroke. Cost effective prevention strategies are needed for
the delivery of stroke awareness and prevention. A priority of our health care system should be to
educate the community about stroke risk factors and stroke warning signs to decrease potential death
and disability from this preventable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non modifiable risk factors for stroke are age, gender, race and ethnicity, and family history. The risk
for stroke doubles every 10 years after the age of 55 (Rosamound et al., 2007). African Americans
older than age 65 have two to five times the risk of stroke compared with Caucasian adults of a similar
age (Hylek et al., 2006). Hispanics have a higher incidence of stroke than Caucasians (Stroke
Association, 2010). According to the National Stroke Association (2010), approximately 55,000 more
women than men have a stroke each year. The target audience for this project will be people age 55 or
older. All individuals may take part in this program regardless of age. Stroke warning signs are an
important component in educating the community. Stroke warning signs include sudden paralysis,
weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg; sudden blurred or decreased vision in one or both eyes;
difficulty speaking or understanding simple statements; dizziness; loss of balance or loss of
coordination; and sudden intense headache (National Stroke Association, 2010). Decreasing the time
from stroke onset to hospital presentation depends on the stroke knowledge of the community. The act
F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, and Time) campaign promoted by the National Stroke Association is a
great way to educate the public on what to do if someone is having a stroke. The acronym prompts
people to look for signs such as a droopy face, numbness or weakness on one

Escalade Research Paper
The Cadillac Escalade has become the most easily recognizable SUV s on the market today. It has
become the go to car for the rich and famous and the car that many dream of being able to park in
their driveway. Along with all of the notoriety that comes with owning an Escalade, Cadillac has also
designed an SUV that reaches many different age groups. But not only does it look nice, it was also
designed to perform. Cadillac has equipped the Escalade with a 6.2 liter V8 engine that produces
409bhp. The latest edition Escalade now offers an extra 200cc of cubic capacity than previous models.
There have also been improvements made to the engine; it now features an aluminum block, which is
a first for the Escalade. This latest technology allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new Escalade is equipped with collapsible brackets that will deform in a more effective way in
collisions. Cadillac has also added StabiliTrak stability control and rollover avoidance. There are now
three row side curtain airbags and a sensor that can identify rear end impacts and adjusts the seatbelt
pretensioners accordingly. The rear park assist system comes as standard equipment; it uses the
navigation system which links to a rear facing camera to assist drivers when they are trying to park
this large SUV. Other options are a remote start function that is able to either heat or cool the interior
of Escalade to your desired setting making it all the more comfortable in hot or very cold weather. The
Cadillac Escalade has not strayed too far from what has made it popular among its fans. It has stayed
true to the design and aesthetics that have made it one of the most popular SUV s available for
purchase today. With the improvements made to the engine, it is now more powerful and modern than
previous models, but that is the most drastic change to the latest edition of the Escalade. Cadillac has
once again produced a vehicle that will incite envy and jealousy in those who are not lucky enough to
be able to own one and a sense of pride and excitement in those who do own

people have been silenced all throughout the film, including SeaWorld and the Japanese Government.
While a few government representatives were shown in the film, they were filmed on secret cameras
which created a sense of fear in the audience and they were being manipulated by O Barrys questions
and answers. HOST: (nodding) Good point. Can you say any more about how SeaWorld has been
silenced? RD: Yes of course. The Cove has been very effective in silencing SeaWorld. SeaWorld has
been shown to the audience in a negative light as the film has shown the conditions of captivity in
SeaWorld but O Barry has not given them a chance to justify or explain their actions, which is very
unfair. HOST: Okay, can you know tell me about the inclusion and exclusion of

Sedgewick first book in 1982, simply titled Algorithms cover compilers technology, and was followed by Algorithms 2nd Edition, Algorithms in C, Algorithms in Modular 3, Algorithms in C++, Algorithms in Java and Introduction to Java Programming. Data Structure queues methods and abstract data types are included in this elementary slot. ( 2, 3, 4, 5,6, 7) Robert s defined abstract data type as the algorithms operations that are preformed rather than implemented the data structure and algorithms operating on it should refer to anything inside, except through function and procedure calls for the fundamental operations. The main reason for the development of abstract data types has been as a mechanism for organizing large programs. Abstract data types provide a way to limit the size and complexity of the interface between (potentially complicated) algorithms and associated data structures and a potentially large number of programs that use the algorithms and data structures, making it easier to understand large program and more convenient to change or improve the fundamental algorithms .(2:pg30) Arrays and linked list are refinements of a basic abstract data type called the linear list, because each can support operations such as insert, delete and access on a basic sequentially data ordered structure. These operation suffice to describe the algorithms and the linear list abstraction can be useful in the initial states of algorithms development. Using the wrong algorithm like a ... • 3. Three Laws Of Robotics The Three Laws of Robotics were formulated by Isaac Asimov with the aim of creating a trusted protection of humans from robots and vice versa. However, Asimov s short stories quite usually challenge the rules that he has created. This essay will discuss three Asimov short stories that present us with certain flaws in regards to the Three Laws of Robotics. The three stories will be Liar! , Runaround , and That Thou Art Mindful of Him . Through Liar! , Asimov is able to question the meaning of harm, he is thus able to show that a problem will arise when considering what sort of harm robots can protect us from. Through the short story Runaround , Asimov questions the importance of each Law, creating scenarios in which a robot has to disobey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this short story, it is seen that a development which is meant to enhance the ability of robots to adhere to the Three Laws leads to the opening of a whole new realm of problems. Keith Harriman, director of US Robots, explains that a certain model of robots is being reproduced to have the ability to weigh every human being giving it an order in terms of factors such as age, gender and intelligence (Asimov 1974: 609 610). Understandably, this supposed improvement to the robot is meant to ensure that the robots ability to follow the rules is improved. More specifically, it is meant to strengthen their adherence to the Second Law, which states, A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law (Asimov 1974: page 605). However, in practice, this development would actually break the First Law of Robotics. Keith Harriman states, A robot they say, has no right to brand this person or that person as inferior. By accepting the orders of A in preference to that of B, B is branded as of less consequence than A and his human rights are violated. (Asimov 1974: page 609) This statement illustrates that a robot that follows an order of one human being in favour of another, would be breaking the First Law of Robotics because the other human being would feel inferior and would be ... This adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie was historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The appearance of the Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair, outlandish headdresses, burn scars, and tattoos. A hero/ heroine is described as the principal male/ female character in a literary or dramatic work or the central figure in an event, period, or movement. The classic tragic hero was defined by Aristotle in the fourth century as, someone who is highly renowned and prosperous (LATWP, 639), suggesting that there is a natural right ordering and proportion of traits within the human being that if violated, produces calamity (LATWP, 639). The book goes on to define classical tragedy as one that involves the inevitable destruction of a noble person by means of character flaw, usually a disproportionate measure of a specific human attribute such as pride, ... • 8. The Influence Of Sociological Criminology On Human Behavior Since ancient times, males have always gone against laws in the society. The beliefs of sociological criminology in the environment have prevented its attempts to prove this theory. The neurohormonal changes between male and female individuals tell more about behavioral differences as they apply to crime and defiance. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation research in 1992, men constituted 89% of the violent arrest crimes and 76% of the property crimes arrests. Up to date, the trend has not changed as men continue to be found on the wrong side of the law compared to their female counterparts. Despite the research found, sociological criminology has failed to provide enough evidence on its emphasis on environmentalism. Genetics influence our behavior in many ways, for instance, the r/K`s hypothesis importance to wrongdoing and aberrance is the used technique covaries with numerous inheritable characteristics valuable in support of that system. Vast numbers of the traits helpful in support of the r procedure (example animosity, sensation chasing) are decidedly identified with introverted conduct, and numerous qualities valuable in the upkeep of the K technique (example charitableness, nurturance), are adversely recognized with reserved behavior. • 10. Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately find yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes, month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanac is very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us. Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance) from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. On the contrary, if one is able to truly appreciate nature, he or she is much more conscious about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this amazing attraction goes fatally wrong when the dinosaurs escape their habitats resulting in the deaths of many people on the island. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, there are several other things that are taken advantage of besides the ways science can affect nature. Humans have a tendency of taking advantage of other humans. An example of this factor is when people try to use other people for money. To some individuals this may seem like a good idea at first, however, this idea can back fire when the people who had gotten taken advantage of get angry. The said actions can even result in a fight. Another example of something that is taken advantage of in modern time is technology. Technology is used for practically everything in present time (as it was in Jurassic Park). This causes humans to become very attached and dependent on every aspect of technology. For instance, if a person s phone or laptop were to ever crash, he or she would think it was the end of the world. The person than would not be able to do his or her schoolwork, job work, or communicate with others; this leaving the individual devastated and lost. The final thing that individuals in modern time have a tendency of taking advantage of is their freedom. Currently there are many riots and protests throughout the United States that citizens participate in because they have the free right. However, they are numerous other individuals who do not have this kind of freedom in their country. In other countries, some people are killed for just voicing their opinions. The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing about a good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to bringing about the same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is permissible to bring about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be impermissible to bring about intentionally (Uniacke 1984). If I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their symptoms of pain if the patient was not suffering from pain but from breathlessness. * The patient must be in a terminal condition: if I give the patient a fatal dose of pain killing drugs and they would have recovered from their disease or injury if I had not given them the drugs, it is no use saying that my intention was to relieve their pain. They closely documented the devastating effects of industrialization and urbanization on the working class American. Through their work they brought attention to the need for housing and (child) labor laws. They used their medium to bring real proof to the public and legislators, where it needed to be seen. Actually, instead of documentary photography, it may best be called social reform photography, as they both worked tirelessly and used the medium to force attention and to effect social change. On first glance of the Hand tool and cutlery manufacturing industry one might think narrow minded and say this industry is for construction and construction only. At least that is what came to my mind upon randomly selecting the industry from a basket in my advanced marketing management class. However, upon researching into this industry one will realize how vast this industry is and for this report we will focus on this industry in the United States. For instance, in everyday life we use or at least own things that make up a part of this industry such as vacuums, lawnmowers, kitchen knives, and even jewelry to name a few. Yes, it also includes power tools and yes construction company s do play a big role as buyers in this industry but they are not the leading players and consumers. So who are the major players that purchase from this industry? Well big time company s such as Home Depot, Walmart, and Sears play a vital role in the success of the hand tool and cutlery manufacturing industry and losing one of these top dogs would certainly impact the companies that make up the industry which leads me to my next discussion in the introduction. Who makes up the industry? Who are the key suppliers? As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health, and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common pursuits. ... Our emotions add facets to our humanity they give us dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual beings we are. People go through both good and rough times. While some persevere through these times, some crack and acquire fissures. In the novella Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar identity and existential crisis which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality of the world surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself from the world along the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is looking for can only be achieved by detaching herself from her life, the things that matter the most to her, starting anew, shows her dogmatic approach to self purification. In seeking union with reality which is what the mystical experience is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her ending up stranded in a perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self discovery. Driven by the notion that everything and everyone she knows is selfish and phony, Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion and monastic living. Political Influences Of Alexander Pope One of the most influential poets of the 17th and 18th centuries, Alexander Pope significantly influenced classical poetry through his didactic and satirical works. Born in 1688, Pope began his life already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were practicing Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander wasn t able to attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the challenge, Pope taught himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at the age of twelve (Masters in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Pope was able to write about his own experiences with Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as Illiad and The Odyssey where he included some of his own ideas in their writing (notable biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on his own life and the situations around him for inspiration and support. In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical question was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse. (slideshare). • 36. Similarities Between Muir And Wordsworth s Relationship... Henry David Thoreau once said, It s not what you look at that matters, it s what you see. William Wordsworth, the author of the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, and John Muir, author of the essay The Calypso Borealis, have proved this in their works by looking at nature and portraying it differently but beautifully in each piece. They have been able to express their relationships with nature differently through choices about format, such as if a rhyme scheme will be used; their word choice, like choosing to give something a specific name; as well as through literary devices used, including tone, mood, and irony, but, even though they made many different choices, their works are both able to make nature seem beautiful and mysterious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the most noticeable difference in the two pieces is the tone and somewhat in mood. The atmosphere Muir creates in his essay evolves as it goes on. When he first begins describing his experience looking for the Calypso Borealis, he seems to be having a lot of trouble with his environment, causing him to see nature in a negative way and be fearful of it. This is demonstrated well in this quote from paragraph two where he says he was struggling through tangled and drooping branches However, after he sees the Calypso Borealis he completely changes his view on nature and seems to respect it more and enjoy being in it more than he did before. You can see this as early as paragraph one where he is reflecting on his time botanising in glorious freedom . Wordsworth, on the other hand, always has the same opinion on nature; he sees it as a beautiful force and as something to observe and not to interfere with. He demonstrates this when he describes nature such as fluttering and dancing in the breeze or when he talks about sparkling waves of glee . The way Muir describes nature and the fact that his point of view changes as he spends more time in it once again makes it seem like he sees nature more like an equal. He recognizes that just because it seemed dangerous at first, it does not necessarily mean that it is. It appears that he sees nature like a person or a companion more than like an outside force. ... • 37. Analysis Of The Book The Four Loves Essay Many cruel things in the world are done in the name of love. But in what face of love are these acts fulfilled through? Is it through friendship? Or mere affection? Perhaps lust? Or, though unlikely, unconditional love? The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. Every relationship in this book is unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. One can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. That being said, Lewis saw the same inconsistencies and decided to dissect the meaning of love in his book The Four Loves. He connected many of findings to the characters throughout Till We Have Faces who portray elements of the four different loves: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of these loves plays a crucial part in the plot of the story. Storge, Greek for affection, is a love in which physical features don t play a part in its existence. We start asking people if they know where was number 87, that was our camping number, but they were all hangover and do not even know that the camping has numbers. After an hour going around the park and passing for the same places over and over, we asked an old couple and they tried to guide us through the park. We continue driving and find out that our spot was on the other side of the park, so we go there and found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Failure Doesn T Come From Falling Down By Francisca Cardenas Francisca Cardenas November 20, 2015 It s really difficult to find success there s many obstacles that cross our paths and most end up defeating us. Some people decide to give up or for others graduating high school is their own success. Everyone has different perspectives of what success is or means to them. In my opinion success is when you re content with the goals you ve accomplish or have yet to achieve. If you ve achieved your goals then you have succeeded. Even if it s the simplest thing, to another person that shouldn t matter because your success will please you and not others. While preceding your goal in life, there will be a lot of people who will try to belittle you in every way they can but like its once was said, Some people don t like you because your strength reminds them of their weakness. Don t let the hate slow you down. Thema Davis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Believing in yourself is extremely important, so you can pick yourself up when you have fallen. Most people say, Failure doesn t come from falling down. Failure comes from not getting up and I totally agree. Even the greatest of people have failed at a point but they didn t give up which is why they re where they stand now. However, In memoirs of a Geisha (Directed by Rob Marshall) and Samson Delilah (Directed by Warwick Thornton) Both Warwick and Marshall are able to communicate their ideas of exploitation similarly through a variety of shots and film techniques. These techniques are used in great succession and are able to capture the audience to sympathize with these characters at their lowest points. My immediate thought after this occurred was Why was Delilah dismissed so quickly? This isn t fair! which I believe Warwick Thornton wanted his audiences to think. Warwick managed to subtly instill discomfort into his viewers by putting us in a situation we can t help but feel uncomfortable and sympathetic in which was used in great succession. We then switch back to where the art exhibtionist is standing and watch as Delilah walks off emcombringly out of the shot as there is a sharp focus on her while exiting. • 43. The Role Of Subgenre In American Horror Films Hollywood, more than any other film industry, deserves to be attributed with the creation of the horror genre. Even though it is not responsible for the first attempts at horror movies, it certainly shaped the genre into what it is today and made it accessible to global audiences. The appearance of horror movies happens in cycles with a distinct pattern that repeats itself a movie appears, delivers thrills to the audience, and suddenly, due to low production costs, sequels and remakes are made, or original films based on the same formula. This way, different subgenres are produced. Eventually, the market becomes saturated and the subgenre dies. Most of the classics seem to have fallen prey to the greedy hands of the movie industry in hopes of collecting profit. A sequel to George A. Romero s Night of the Living Dead was made in 2004, in 2007 Rob Zombie directed his version of John Carpenter s Halloween, Gus Van Sant directed the remake of Hitchcock s Psycho and The Saw franchise is due to get its eighth sequel released in 2017. Hantke calls this the symptom of the crisis of contemporary American horror film (6). Some of these films did very well at the box office but most of them didn t, largely due to the loss of originality and the ability to surprise and shock, which stands at the basis of every successful horror film. The next step for the challenged horror industry was the process of transnationalization searching for inspiration outside familiar borders, more specifically turning to East Asia. The initial phase of J horror s rising popularity in the United States, for example, was largely driven by a search, on the part of hardcore fans, for more exotic and extreme forms of horror film. We had to land the life flight because the accident was so awful. I was around fourteen years old and I never saw anyone pass away before. The ambulance heaved up, and the crew of the helicopter came running over. The guy was a bloody chaos, and he was having a rigid time staying alive. They underwent rolling him over to the helicopter when he passes away. I and the other firefighters were holding tarps up so the mob of society couldn t see him as the EMT s performed CPR. They kept pushing down on his chest for a while until they finally announced that he was deceased. He had major bleeding on the inside and out. That day I saw someone just fade. Art Historian, Junquera, studied the Black Paintings, and, given the evidence, he believes they were actually painted by Goya s son, Javier. Javier was a businessman, not a painter, so he probably sold his paintings as his fathers to make extra money. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree that the clock will lose time at the higher altitude. The acceleration due to gravity decreases which means the frequency will decrease which means the angular frequency will decrease resulting in a loss of time. As the clock is moved further from the center of the earth, it loses time. This is because the acceleration from gravity decreases more and more as higher altitudes are reached. This decrease in the acceleration due to gravity leads us to believe that the frequency and the angular frequency decrease as well which all relate to one other and cause time to be lost. The clock would lose time because as the value of g decreases, the period increases. When the clock is moved away from sea level gravity would slightly decrease causing the clock to lose time.
