The Role Of Climate In The Democratic Republic Of The Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country in the Sub Saharan region of Africa. It was also
known as Zaire from 1971 1997 The Democratic Republic of the Congo borders Angola, The
Republic of the Congo, The Central African Republic, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and
Zambia. It is the second largest country in Africa, after Angola, at 2,334,858 square kilometers. It is
also the seventh poorest country in the world at $484.20 GDP per Capita.
The climate in the Democratic Republic of the Congo varies from region to region. The climate is
often very hot and humid in the central and lower western regions, with an average temperature of
about 24 degrees Celsius. In the northern and southern plateaus, the climate is very similar,

Dystopian Society In Ayn Rand s Anthem
The juxtaposition of the society in Anthem with today s society is surprisingly terrifying. The
dystopian society in Anthem promotes the ideology of collectivism and the oppression of
individualism with resemblance to how aspects of those ideas are portrayed in our society. Anthem
primarily focuses on a controlled society, yet our society focuses on the competition of prosperity
amongst the population. Using Ayn Rand s satiristic writing elements, the events in Anthem depict a
correlation to today s society, confirming Rand s warnings to the ignorant public. An important aspect
of this novel is the description of how the children are awarded a vocation. Equality 7 2521 explains
that once they are born, they are sent to the Home of Infants

Reflection Paper On Identity
A person s life is made up of an impossibly unique combination of moments, interactions, and
relationships, all of which amalgamate to create a human with an identity unlike any other in the
world. When looking at a person s life up close, it almost appears as if their identity is something that
has been relatively constant throughout their life, however, if a person s life is looked at a through a
more holistic perspective, it s easier to see how specific events, people, and relationships in their life
made them who they are today. For this assignment, I was tasked with conducting in depth interviews
pertaining to life experiences and identities with another member of the class. Through the interview
process, hidden sentiments arose, truths were revealed, and I had the opportunity to see the different
ways in which my identity was formed. In analyzing these interviews, I found that through using the
works of influential identity theorists, Daniel J. Canary, Michael J. Cody, Valerie L. Manusov, Jan E.
Stets, and Peter J. Burke, I was able to dissect my interview and correlate specific instances of my past
to aspects of my current identity, specifically my independent, self assured, and open minded
disposition. The first identity theory that will be looked at is Canary et al s The Four Cognitive
Processes. There are many facets to this theory, but some prominent aspects that will be looked at are
those of schema, family structure, and stereotypes. Schema is defined as a

Summary Of Ayn Rand s Anthem
To rule, a ruler needs control. It is the cornerstone of any society with a leader. The society Ayn Rand
creates in Anthem is no exception. In Anthem, the rules in the society depicted by Rand exist for
control, and were initially created for equality but spiraled out of control into a world built on
collectivism and backward teachings. The society Prometheus, or Equality, envisions in the final
chapters of the novella would never have any of the rules in his past society, as he realizes through his
journey that they are evil and damaging. The Unmentionable Times turned into the society we see in
Anthem through giving up freedom for the sake of equality. A high school teacher mailed Rand her
students questions about the novella,

Comparing the Treatment of Women in Hedda Gabbler, A...
Women as Victims in Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts
In Ibsen s plays Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts the female protagonists of Hedda Gabler,
Nora and Mrs. Alving demonstrate how social expectations and restrictions of women impacts the life
every woman on a very personal level.
Conservative social and religious leaders imposed women s restricted social roles. Women had to be
married; there was not another socially acceptable option. After marriage they had to stay with their
families and fulfill their social and moral duty regardless of their personal feelings or how their
husbands treated them. Ibsen presents his characters Hedda, Nora and Helene as victims of the
patriarchal system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Judge Brakes asks why she married, Tesman, Hedda responds: I really danced myself out,
Judge. My time was up... (Fjelde, 725). Hedda is completely aware of the fact that she cannot play the
role of the happy housewife successfully. Hedda finds herself trapped in a difficult situation that was
forced upon her by obsolete traditions. Although repulsed by the thought Hedda must contend with her
role as a housewife in a middle class household. The fact that she is pregnant carves her role as
homemaker even more deeply into her consciousness and leaves her emotionally wounded.
Brack. No that isn t ah, never mind. But suppose you were to be confronted now by what in rather
elegant language is called your most solemn responsibility. A new responsibility, Mrs. Hedda.
Hedda. Be quiet! You ll never see me like that!

Hedda. I have no talent for such things, Judge. I won t have responsibilities! (730)
Just like Nora and Helene, Hedda prefers to pretend instead of dealing with reality. She hides behind
the accepted social roles by marrying someone who is dependable as a husband but whom she doesn t
love. Lovorg. Ah, I understand. It offends your love for George Tesman. Hedda. Love? You are
absurd! (737). She marries Tesman so she can have control over other people. She thrives on jealousy,
social ambition, and a need to dominate others. She needs to degrade others to improve her own self

The Kidnappinging Of The Lindbergh And The Kidnappings
March 1, 1932 just after 10:00 pm Betty Gow, a nursemaid for the notorious Lindbergh family,
approached Anne Lindebergh asking if she had taken the baby from his nursery room. Moments later
it was discovered that the baby had been kidnapped directly from the second story of the Lindbergh s
home and a ransom note for 50,000 dollars left on the windowsill. News Fig. 1 traveled fast and soon
Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s infant child(Fig1) where the
only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the absence of the child. All hope
seemed lost when even after the ransom was paid the infant came up dead in the woods not far from
the home with few evidence leading to who might have done this terrible act, but little did they know
the evidence found was just enough to catch the kidnapper. On September, 1934 Bruno Richard
Hauptmann, a carpenter from the Bronx, was discovered using a ten dollar gold note ransom bill to
pay for gas linking him directly to the crime. Following the Incarceration police found $14,000 of the
Lindbergh s money stashed in the suspect garage and various other evidence linking him to the
kidnapping(1). Case The case began with a search of the premises soon after the child had been found
missing which yielded in the discovery of a ransom note demanding $50,000 for the return of the
child. Traces of mud were next unearthed on the floor of the nursery while unidentifiable footprints
were found under the

The Pearl, By John Steinbeck
Most people would consider finding a piece of jewelry worth large sums of money a wonderful stroke
of luck. Kino, the main character of John Steinbeck s ninety page novel The Pearl, sure felt this way
when he discovered the greatest pearl in the world at the point in his life when he needed it most his
son having just being stung by a scorpion and needing expensive medical treatment. However, when
the pearl buyers try to swindle him and then send assassins to kill him, burn his house, and destroy his
canoe, his perception of the pearl begins to shift. He decides to flee to the capital and sell the pearl
himself, taking a route through the mountains in order to evade his pursuers. When his efforts to hide
fall short, he changes tactics and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less
when the story is over than he had when it started (140).
Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to
the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls
Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino
does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares
for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make
Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as
optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the
ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to
a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word
lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl
s new resting place (90). On further reflection, some critics have picked up on the subtle

Why Is Technology Important In Ww2
During many wars, technology that was developed for specific wartime needs has been integrated to
everyday use but, compared to other wars, World War 2 had the largest effect of the technology we use
today. While a lot of countries decided to go with quality over quantity, the United States decided to
go with quantity over quality. While they decided to go with quantity over quality, their technology
was still good for that time. Technology played a major role during World War 2, from
communications to transmit information across the battlefield, to aircraft and chemical weapons
bombing, to technologies that we still use to this day.
America was developing new technology and improving on technologies they already had throughout
the war. As stated above, technology played a major role during World War 2, so getting ahead of the
enemy was key to winning the war. One of the key technologies in World War 2 was their logistics and
communications. America used electronic computers for ballistics and trajectory calculators. Without
these computers s U.S. might not have been able to hit their targets with the same precision. Their

biggest developments of World War 2 was the Manhattan project, in which we produced the atomic

of nuclear fission, we are able to create reactors to produce energy which we use to power our

Responsibility of the Creator
Responsibility of the Creator

Mrs. O Kelly
I believe Victor Frankenstein was responsible for his creature s actions. He had many chances to help
but he was a too much of a coward. For example, Frankenstein could have helped Justine but he was
too scared to speak up. It was his fault she was in jail and it was his fault she died. She was accused of
killing William because Victor s Monster put the necklace in her pocket.
Frankenstein felt responsible for his younger brother s death when he realized that the monster he
created murdered William. Frankenstein started to feel as if he himself had committed the murder
because of his role in the monster s existence. Everything the monster did was ... Show more content

He had only one friend, Clerval. His choice for a wife was a person he called cousin , but in fact was
his adopted sister. Did Victor create this so called monster to have a friend, the one thing the monster
wished for? Victor denied his friendship to the monster, but why? The joy of creating life, the monster,
overruled his judgment. He was denying the fact he had committed such a vile act upon humanity. He
even says, A being whom myself had formed, and eluded with life, had met me at midnight among the
precipices of an inaccessible mountain. 3 Victor may have admitted to creating the monster, but he
denied that he had driven the monster to commit murder. He needed to admit, not only to himself, but
to his family that he was the one responsible for William s murder. By not admitting this, he allowed
his friend Clerval and his wife Elizabeth to be murdered as well. His determination that his secret not
be discovered became his downfall. Victor was responsible for every action of his own and for the
actions of the monster. Frankenstein s monster only wanted to be accepted for what he was. The
monster needed a friend. Someone he could talk to, someone to love him, and someone to love back.
Friendship was not possible. Unfortunately, the human race is very shallow. In the monster s own
words he says, ...they spurn and hate me. 4 We tend to judge the appearances of others, rather than

Essay On Theodore Roosevelt s Impact On America
Out of all the men who have been President of the United States, there are some that just take the cake
of who were the most influential and important. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Ronald
Reagan being the top three. These three have impacted America tremendously from WW2 and helping
the Cold war to ending The Great Depression. They were good leaders in a time of need which makes
them well known and unforgettable.
Theodore Roosevelt being the youngest president at age 42 was a great leader. He had many
accomplishments, even winning the Noble Peace Prize. The Russo Japanese War was going on from
1904 05, he won the Noble Peace Prize by being the meditator of the peace between the two countries.
TR was a progressive leader and a trustworthy president even nicknamed Trust Buster. His policies
regarding trust and labor reform were part of what he called the Square Deal. TR was a conservationist
and naturalist, he preserved natural habitats and wildlife; more than 125 million acres were set aside
being protected by the public. Roosevelt combined an interest in military affairs and a belief in

pollutants.7 The Commission s ban on GloFish highlights the controversy over genetically modified
organisms and how public opinion can be swayed by the beliefs of others whether those beliefs are
based on science or not. This paper will focus first on what genetic modification means and then will
look at the pros and cons of genetically modified foods. Finally, the author s opinion of the issue of
GMO food will conclude the paper. Wikipedia defines genetic modification as the mutation, insertion

George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four
Who said Fiction was Fake?
Imagine a place where the government is feared and seen as the center of the universe. No one dares
to go against it because of the torture and punishments that can occur. Propaganda is everywhere, and
no one knows what is the truth and what is a lie. Not knowing if today will be your last. This may
seem like an insight to a fictional novel, but this is not the case, this is a reality for some people. Like
in the novel Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, the North Korean government uses fear to
control their citizens, and supervises the type of media presented through technology. By running
everything through a totalitarian regime, no one has the power or courage to fight back (North Korea:
Government) (Cha 13).
What is a way to get even the most stubborn person to follow commands? Fear. Fear is an effective
method of control that is used in both the governments of Nineteen Eighty Four and North Korea.
Oceania, the country where the novel takes place, has telescreens that claim to be watching everyone
at all times (Orwell 5). You had to live did live, from habit that became instinct in assumption that
every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinised (Orwell
5). This kind of knowledge scares Winston and the citizens into obeying what the government says,
since they don t want to do something that can give the government a reason to punish them. Even the
slightest infraction can get someone in trouble:

Summary Of Passing By Nella Larsen
Masquerade Clare Kendry s life is nothing more than a masquerade. It is just a show where the
characters plays assigned roles. In the novel Passing by Nella Larsen, Clare, a friend of Irene Redfield,
uses her light skinned color to gain status by passing. The conclusion of Passing demonstrates Clare
Kendry s need to pay for denying and faking her identity. Throughout the novel, Clare acts as a white
woman despite her true identity is actually that of a black. She feels that it is easier to be a white and
uses white as a booster to gain status in her community. Clare expresses her belief that life is not as
hard as a white, You d be surprised, Rene, how much easier that is with white people than with us
(Larsen 25). Clare views white skin as a privilege, or more as like a ticket that gains her access to
resources, and even luxury, she might want. As Clare values social status more heavily than her
inherited identity, she abandons her race to receive a much higher status from the society despite the
stress she had for being exposed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Godzilla Vs Godzilla
One of my favorite movie genres is the Kaiju film genre, which Kaiju means strange creature or giant
monster that tends to have a giant monster destroying major cities and fighting the military and even
other giant monsters. One of the most popular and the first Kaiju films was Godzilla. Godzilla one the
most iconic character in pop culture, been starred in over thirty films including some American film
adaptations. The most two recent films were Legendary s Godzilla (2014) and Shin Godzilla, with
shin meaning New, True, or God. Both films were a reboot to the first film from 1954. While both
films share some similarities with each other, they both have many differences in terms of plot, how
the character is portrayed, and their meaning to the audience.
The overall plot for Legendary s Godzilla is researchers found an ancient spore, which they began to
preserve until nearly 15 years later it hatched. Now with two terrestrial organisms threatening the
existence of humanity. Godzilla rises from the ocean to stop these two monsters called MUTO, an
acronym for Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism, from reproducing and wreaking havoc.
Godzilla s main role in this film is trying to restore nature s balance and order. In the end, Godzilla
fights and kills the MUTOs. The people praises him as the savior of the city and the King of Monsters.
Shin Godzilla s plot involves with the same thing from the
Gomez Hernandez 2 original 1954 film, which has Godzilla causing destruction to Japan and having
people to work together and finding a solution to stop Godzilla.
The way both films portrayed Godzilla on both films is different. Legendary s Godzilla is portrayed as
a hero who saves the world from other monsters while of course he causes destruction around him. He
is also seen as a potential threat to man kind. While Shin Godzilla is just like any monster threatening
humanity, leaving destruction everywhere and killing the lives of other people. It is the people s job to
find a way to fight back and defeat him. Shin Godzilla has a strong meaning. Shin Godzilla was
inspired by the 2011 triple disaster which was the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and Tōhoku
earthquake and tsunami. Usually the

Difference Between Prospect Theory And Prospect Theory
INTRODUCTION
Generally, it is believed the net effect of the gains and losses involved with each choice are combined
to present an overall evaluation of whether a choice is desirable. Scholars tend to use utility to state
enjoyment and contend that we prefer instances that maximize our utility.
However, studies have found that we don t actually process information in such a rational way.
Kahneman and Tversky presented an idea called prospect theory in 1979, which contends that people
value gains and losses differently, and, as such, will base decisions on perceived profits rather than
perceived losses. Thus, if a person were given two equal choices, one expressed in terms of possible
gains and the other in possible losses, people would choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First, in prospect theory, people derive utility from gains and losses, measured relative to some
reference point, rather than from absolute levels of wealth: the argument of Kahneman and Tversky
motivate this assumption, known as reference dependence, with explicit experimental evidence (see,
for example, Problems 11 and 12 in their 1979 paper), but also by noting that our perceptual system
works in a similar way: we are more attuned to changes in attributes such as brightness, loudness, and
temperature than we are to their absolute

The Rising Of The Decembrist Russia
The rising of the Decembrist Russia was due to a confusion over the next succession. In 1825,
Alexander I died suddenly. Alexander s younger brother, Constantine, who was next in line, had no
desire to assume the throne of such a burdensome empire, so he gave his right of succession to his
brother Nicholas. Nicholas, however, had been left unaware of the official details of the change and on
learning of Alexander s death he proclaimed Constantine emperor at St. Petersburg, at the same time
as Constantine in Warsaw was proclaiming Nicholas. For nearly three weeks in December 1825 the
throne remained vacant. Russian officers and troops had come into contact with currents of liberal
thought, with new social conditions, and with new political institutions in western Europe during the
struggle against Napoleon. Upon their return home they saw that the idea of the rights of man was
regarded with contempt by their rulers, that their country by trodden under the heel of an autocracy
which made all progress impossible. As they had no legitimate means making their desires known,
they organised secret societies which agitated for reforms, including the establishment of a
constitution. These societies, afterwards called the Decembrists, were planning a widespread uprising
but, when Alexander suddenly died, resolved to take advantage of the uncertainty that existed
regarding the succession to attempt a coup d etat. But the plotters had no clear plan or organisation

What Is Intelligence Anyway Book Report
What is intelligence anyway?
This autobiography was written by Doctor Isaac Asimov who wanted to hint us on what intelligence
really is. When the doctor went to get his car fixed, he was asked a riddle by the auto repair man and
got it wrong. The doctor was very smart and the auto repair man knew it too, yet he was sure that he
would trick the doctor because the doctor was too educated. It was true and even the doctor knew it.
He was smart by the standards of education but there are different types of being smart like being
street smart. He was so educated that he had no experiences with things like riddles which may have
been common sense to others. The strength of the passage was being an autobiography with real
personal experiences while the weakness was the lack of explanation about how the doctor was
lacking in intelligence.

Should Russia expand beyond Crimea and further into Ukraine.
Introduction.
Tension in Ukraine began to rise when then the president Viktor Yanukovych rejected a deal proposed
by the European Union regarding trade agreements. Late last year when this deal was in consideration,
Viktor Yanukovych began to express his doubts in the final stages about signing the trade agreement.
For everyone in Ukraine it was clear that Vladimir Putin pressured Viktor Yanukovych so much that
essentially Putin made Yanukovych reject the deal. Just days later on 17th December Putin agrees to

His main motivations are ideology, social base and economic stimulus.
Putin has long upheld a KGB style Cold War mentality mixed with Conservatism of Russian thinkers
from early twentieth century such as Berdyaev, Solovyov and Ilyin. All of these thinkers, in one way
or another, were patriots as well as socialists and wanted Russia to be independent from any western
ideas which they claimed were manipulative in a sense that, western ideas would shape rest of the
world for their own interests. The mixture of ideas presented by these thinkers is exactly what Putin
needs to unite the legacies of both the Russian and Soviet empires into a solid path dependant
ideology. This ideology roughly says that Western countries spread some liberal and deleterious ideas
essentially hostile to Russia s tradition, and deliberately aims to destroy Russia s historically unique
culture that combines autocracy, orthodoxy and Slavic brotherhood. For this reason, Putin has no other
choice but to protect the historical Russian borders from such civilization challenge.
Putin has retained his thug image from his time in Leningrad. This thug image still shows today
through his vocabulary, the criminal bureaucratic system he built in Russia and his bold aggressive
behavior on the international stage. Putin has gained a lot of support from presenting himself in this
way, albeit mainly from the middle class and Russian elites. His

It is by nature identified by diversity. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the person and
others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle Hymn of the Tiger
Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of this American
woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity; inherited identity;
resisted identity and resolved identity. On October 26th 1962, one of the most known authors was
born: Amy Chua. Amy Chua was born in Champaign, Illinois in the Unites States. She was raised as a
catholic. Despite her having ancestry whom are Chinese, to be more specific Kokkein dialect, she
proudly carries around an American identity. She was born in the year of the Tiger. In their culture,
that represents people who are fearless, powerful, noble, and authoritative. My family comes from
southern China s Fujian Province, which is famous for producing scholars and scientists. Her parents
migrated from the Philippines to the States before she was born in order to continue their educational
studies. Her father, Leon Ong Chua is an American electrical engineer and computer scientist. He is a
professor in the electrical engineering and computer sciences department at the University of
California, Berkeley. His nationality is Holko and American. On the other side, the authors mother,
Diana Chua was born in China and moved to the Philippines at the age of 2. She converted to
Catholicism when she was in high school and received a degree in chemical engineering at the
University of Santo Tomas. Amy has three sisters and they are all known to be successful in their own
ways. Amy Chua has 2 daughters: Sophia and Louisa. With Chua s Tiger parenting methods, Sophia
seems to respect and listen to her mother which is the opposite than Lulu (Louisa). Lulu has more
western characteristics. For example, she talks back and doesn t respect her mother s orders. Briefly,
these aspects form her native identity. Amy Chua s evolution seemed to involve her inherited identity.
Confucianism is an aspect that is very present in the memoir. It is

Reflection Paper On Color Guard
Hey there! It s Monday, July 17. My sisters and I have packed and we are officially ready to leave for
Color Guard camp. We are really excited for what is in store for us over the next few days. Last year s
camp was difficult and made our guard wary of coming back for a second try, but hopefully they ve
fixed last year s issues. The guard met up at the school this morning to be fitted for our fall costumes
and we are now on our way to start day one of camp. This year campers are sleeping in Royer Hall,
and I must admit, I believe that last year s dorms were nicer, especially considering every two rooms
had their own bathroom. Other than the dorms, I admire the intensity of this year s camp much more
than last year s. The advanced group s instructor, Rashaud, is a great teacher and I definitely believe
that I will be learning and improving with him this week. The main purpose of today was to review
the fundamentals of Colorguard such as: extensions on the left and right sides, drop spins, and a cone
exercise. Using what we have learned today, we tried out for our levels; however, he has chosen not to
assign groups until tomorrow! In addition, everyone participated in icebreaker games to better
familiarize one another and become more familiar with our surroundings. This morning s cardio was
strenuous, but the team seemed to get through it easily. After morning stretches and cardio, Rashaud
told us what groups to report to. This year, our guard managed to have two people in the

Rehearsal Techniques Used In The Christian World
In life, there are many things that we rehearse such as weddings, concerts, plays, military operations
etc. Why do we rehearse? The main reason for rehearsals is to get a feel of the task at hand, go over
responsibilities, and last to get an understanding of individual roles. Without trials, productivity would
be lower more complicated and less organized. There would be no communication and the task will go
horribly wrong. However there are different rehearsal techniques that we can you use to help in
preparation for a task. This techniques can essentially be used in the civilian world. The four types are:
Back brief, combined arms, support, and battle drills. Each technique focuses on certain aspects. For
example, back brief is distinctively

A Rose For Emily Symbolism Analysis
The Symbolism of the Setting in Faulkner s and Hemingway s Stories
The place where the story is set plays the most significant role in the majority of fiction pieces, since it
is the setting that outlines the plot development and influences the heroes decisions and general
characteristics. In Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, the
setting is raised to the symbolic level. When the outside portrayal does not correspond to what is
happening inside the character, it adds a psychological perspective to the plot s analysis. In Faulkner s
story, there is much information about the Griersons who have been at the top tier of society for a long
time and have become an integral part of the local community. In ... Show more content on

It is the repetition of the phrase had once been that attracts the audience s attention, since with such a
repetition, the narrator wants to underline the obvious difference between the house s former splendor
and its current half ruined appearance, though it still tries to look stubborn and coquettish (1), just like
its last dweller Miss Emily. Hemingway also introduces the setting with the first sentence when saying
that the hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white (229), and the whole location is
drenched in the bright sunlight with people having no possibility to hide in the shadow of trees. With
these words, the narrator wants to imply that this story is a kind of confession in which nothing will be
hidden from attentive readers, though it may take time for them to realize what the usual conversation
can hint at.
Both heroines understand that certain changes are inevitable in their condition. They are confused by
possible consequences and are scared stiff of what they are expected to do. While these emotions are
not shown directly, they are shown through the setting. In Faulkner s story, Miss Emily leaves her
house very seldom as if the surrounding world makes her insecure and unconfident, while a disgusting
stink of decay and frustration seems to start coming from the building she has been occupying for so
many years.

the raid on Tokyo. If Doolittle s pilots could take off in a bomber, the members of VT 8 could handle

them was expected to occur tomorrow. Waldron told them not to worry about navigation but to just

Pros And Cons Of Lincoln
Phillip Shaw Paludan, a Kentucky native, claims that President Abraham Lincoln deserves to be
considered the nation s greatest President because he faced the Civil War, our greatest national trauma
, and his actions both saved the Union and the lives of the slaves. To Paludan, Lincoln understood that
freedom for slaves was the indispensable means to saving the Union (Paludan 357); Lincoln s actions
as Commander and Chief and his oratory style achieved this freedom, which preserved the unity of the
nation. Lincoln expanded the role of Commander and Chief, because the war demanded the expansion
of the Executive Branch along with the expansion of Congress and state governments. As Commander
and Chief, Lincoln fought and won the Civil War through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lincoln used the War for the Union (Bradford 365) to conceal his changes in federal government and
economy by shifting the posture of the federal government towards the sponsorship of business
(Bradford 365) through 28.72 percent increase in tariffs between 1861 and 1865 which encouraged a
massive transfer of wealth (Bradford 366) and a change to the Republican system of banking. Lincoln
also directly contributed the corruption, greed, and peculation of the Gilded Age by favoring land
speculation , being a friend of the big corporations (Bradford 366), including the Union Pacific
Railroad, and mistreating immigrants. Lincoln s presidential misconduct during the Civil War also
marks him as America s first imperial president as he summoned militia, spent millions, suspended
law...defied the Supreme Court (Bradford 367), and even arrested Anti Republican candidates and
voters to ensure that he remained in

Social Justice In The Motorcycle Diaries By Che Guevara
Context influences how an individual invests themselves into discovery, and how transformative it
may be, based upon their presence or absence of agency. The notion that discoveries have the power to
be transformative because of the way they confront/challenge established assumptions and beliefs in a
way prompts new understandings and insights. Che Guevara s memoir The Motorcycle Diaries ,
published in 1993, recounts his discovery of the injustices of social and political inequality within his
cultural context of Latin America in the mid 20th century. J C s late Victorian novella HOD shares G s
discovery of inequality and injustice, because f the differing historical contexts, Conrad is unable to

Within this context, the powerful are revealed to be untouched by moral considerations in their greedy
quest for resources. Towards the end of the novel, Marlow encounters a Russian apologist on behalf of
Kurtz, whose actions he recounts To speak plainly, he (Kurtz) raided the country and of whom he
defends evidently the appetite for more ivory had got the better of the what shall I say? less material
aspirations This serves to symbolise the justification offered by European imperialists for their acts of
injustice and exploitation, as represented by Kurtz as an individual. Despite the horrifying discovery
of exploitation, Marlow and those around him fail to initiate change to alter the mistreatment of the
Congolese and their land. Marlow s growing understanding of the avarice and greed that underpinned
colonisation further demonstrates the novella s representation of its total absence of humanity I felt an
intolerable weight oppressing my breast... The unseen presence of Victoria s corruption, the darkness
of an impenetrable night... (81) The motif of dark imagery continues to act as a symbol of the brutal
conditions of colonialism. Ultimately, Marlow s final refusal to reveal the truth about Kurtz to the man
s fiancé acts to symbolise the culture of denial and collusion that characterised European exploitation.

to reiterate Marlow and the responder s discovery, of the brutality and corruption that achieves

Mood In The Raven
The Raven is the most famous of Poe s poems, notable for its melodic and dramatic qualities. The
meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per
lines. Combined with the predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme and the frequent use of internal
rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the refrain of nothing more and nevermore give the poem a musical
lilt when read aloud. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in
order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish the overall
atmosphere. Finally, the repetition of nevermore gives a circular sense to the poem and contributes to
what Poe termed the unity of effect, where each word and line adds to the larger meaning of the poem.

He thinks occasionally of Lenore but is generally able to control his emotions, although the effort
required to do so tires him and makes his words equally slow and outwardly pacified. However, over
the course of the narrative, the protagonist becomes more and more agitated both in mind and in
action, a progression that he demonstrates through his rationalizations and eventually through his
increasingly exclamation ridden monologue. In every stanza near the end, however, his exclamations
are punctuated by the calm desolation of the sentence Quoth the Raven, Nevermore, reflecting the
despair of his

Fast Tracking Design And Construction Phases Essay
Fast Tracking Design and Construction Phases. The implementation phase of the Chunnel Tunnel was
rife with risks and issues as the project team opted to fast track the design and construction phases of
the project (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 12). Fast tracking is described by the Project Management Institute
(2013, p. 540) as a schedule compression technique in which activities or phases normally done in
sequence are performed in parallel for at least a portion of their duration. Typically, project teams use
this technique in hopes of shortening the delivery timeframe with the knowledge that this approach
makes the project susceptible to additional risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 10). The Chunnel Tunnel
project team chose to fast track overlap the execution of these two phases due to schedule delays and
cost overruns in previous phases. For the project team, compressing the construction time was crucial
to ensure that the project objectives would be completed. In time, banks and private investors
recognized the incremental risks associated with continuous delays and began weighing in on project
decisions to minimize risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Financial stakeholders expected a return on
investment (ROI) and the project team allowed them to have too much control when recommending
risk mitigation strategies (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Thus, subcontractor contracts were changes to
fixed price contract and later resulted in a contractor claim (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9).

American Dance 1960’s-1990’s
Culture revolves around dance through movement, each telling their own unique stories. Dance is the
center piece for many societys. Dance is defined as an art performed by individuals or groups of
human beings, existing in time, space, force, and flow, in which the human body is the instrument, and
movement is the medium (Krause, 24)1. As many cultures differ from one another dance is one way
universally they are able to communicate. Through their bodies they are able to speak to one another.
Dance has been around a very long time. When you typically think of America you wouldn t normally
think of dance. You tend to think more Industrial revolution and technology, but if you look back

One of the biggest dance crazes of the 80 s was break dancing. It was just moving your body no rhyme
or rhythm. You usually had to be physically fit because of all of the movements required tremendous
amounts of strength to be able to hold yourself up. This only lasted for some time, then once again
peoples interests starting shifting and new fads were emerging.
The 1990 s became the time of quick fads and a lot of different styles. If people were going to a party
they didn t just have one option clothes wise to wear. They could dress bright, casual, or even dress
like Run DMC with the pants way too big for them and a baggy shirt. All of these styles were in. MC
Hammer was a big name hip hop star in the 90 s with one of his biggest hits called U can t touch this .
This was a very popular song and millions of copies were being sold by the day. The hammer time
dance was a dance that stuck out in the 90 s. It was an upbeat hip hop dance, just moving to the music.
Hip hop was starting and people quickly picked up on the catchy up beat tempo. Hip hop has been has
never really died out and is still going today.
Looking back throughout American history our culture is never satisfied with what they have. It s just
the American culture way of life. Our culture changes so much as you can tell through the last 40
years of dance alone. I m an American but I would consider myself an outsider to all of this. I have

  • 3. Dystopian Society In Ayn Rand s Anthem The juxtaposition of the society in Anthem with today s society is surprisingly terrifying. The dystopian society in Anthem promotes the ideology of collectivism and the oppression of individualism with resemblance to how aspects of those ideas are portrayed in our society. Anthem primarily focuses on a controlled society, yet our society focuses on the competition of prosperity amongst the population. Using Ayn Rand s satiristic writing elements, the events in Anthem depict a correlation to today s society, confirming Rand s warnings to the ignorant public. An important aspect of this novel is the description of how the children are awarded a vocation. Equality 7 2521 explains that once they are born, they are sent to the Home of Infants ... • 4. Reflection Paper On Identity A person s life is made up of an impossibly unique combination of moments, interactions, and relationships, all of which amalgamate to create a human with an identity unlike any other in the world. When looking at a person s life up close, it almost appears as if their identity is something that has been relatively constant throughout their life, however, if a person s life is looked at a through a more holistic perspective, it s easier to see how specific events, people, and relationships in their life made them who they are today. For this assignment, I was tasked with conducting in depth interviews pertaining to life experiences and identities with another member of the class. Through the interview process, hidden sentiments arose, truths were revealed, and I had the opportunity to see the different ways in which my identity was formed. In analyzing these interviews, I found that through using the works of influential identity theorists, Daniel J. Canary, Michael J. Cody, Valerie L. Manusov, Jan E. Stets, and Peter J. Burke, I was able to dissect my interview and correlate specific instances of my past to aspects of my current identity, specifically my independent, self assured, and open minded disposition. The first identity theory that will be looked at is Canary et al s The Four Cognitive Processes. There are many facets to this theory, but some prominent aspects that will be looked at are those of schema, family structure, and stereotypes. Schema is defined as a ... • 5. Summary Of Ayn Rand s Anthem To rule, a ruler needs control. It is the cornerstone of any society with a leader. The society Ayn Rand creates in Anthem is no exception. In Anthem, the rules in the society depicted by Rand exist for control, and were initially created for equality but spiraled out of control into a world built on collectivism and backward teachings. The society Prometheus, or Equality, envisions in the final chapters of the novella would never have any of the rules in his past society, as he realizes through his journey that they are evil and damaging. The Unmentionable Times turned into the society we see in Anthem through giving up freedom for the sake of equality. A high school teacher mailed Rand her students questions about the novella, ... Women as Victims in Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts In Ibsen s plays Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts the female protagonists of Hedda Gabler, Nora and Mrs. Alving demonstrate how social expectations and restrictions of women impacts the life every woman on a very personal level. Conservative social and religious leaders imposed women s restricted social roles. Women had to be married; there was not another socially acceptable option. After marriage they had to stay with their families and fulfill their social and moral duty regardless of their personal feelings or how their husbands treated them. Hedda is completely aware of the fact that she cannot play the role of the happy housewife successfully. Hedda finds herself trapped in a difficult situation that was forced upon her by obsolete traditions. Although repulsed by the thought Hedda must contend with her role as a housewife in a middle class household. The fact that she is pregnant carves her role as homemaker even more deeply into her consciousness and leaves her emotionally wounded. Brack. No that isn t ah, never mind. • 7. The Kidnappinging Of The Lindbergh And The Kidnappings March 1, 1932 just after 10:00 pm Betty Gow, a nursemaid for the notorious Lindbergh family, approached Anne Lindebergh asking if she had taken the baby from his nursery room. Moments later it was discovered that the baby had been kidnapped directly from the second story of the Lindbergh s home and a ransom note for 50,000 dollars left on the windowsill. News Fig. 1 traveled fast and soon Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s infant child(Fig1) where the only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the absence of the child. All hope seemed lost when even after the ransom was paid the infant came up dead in the woods not far from the home with few evidence leading to who might have done this terrible act, but little did they know the evidence found was just enough to catch the kidnapper. On September, 1934 Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a carpenter from the Bronx, was discovered using a ten dollar gold note ransom bill to pay for gas linking him directly to the crime. Following the Incarceration police found $14,000 of the Lindbergh s money stashed in the suspect garage and various other evidence linking him to the kidnapping(1). Case The case began with a search of the premises soon after the child had been found missing which yielded in the discovery of a ransom note demanding $50,000 for the return of the child. He very plainly puts, For his boat smashed, his baby dead, and the pearl cast into the sea, he has less when the story is over than he had when it started (140). Commentator Sydney Krause who takes a similar approach describes Kino s returning of the pearl to the sea as a desperate act of defeat at the hands of the pearl s evil nature (156). Stephen George calls Coyotito Kino s real pearl and writes that his death will follow Kino for the rest of his life (95). Kino does eventually rid himself of the pearl but not before it has destroyed almost everything that he cares for (Lisca 292). The loss of his livelihood, the death of his son, and the forfeiture of the pearl make Kino s position at the end of the novel seem morose. On the other hand, other critics see the novel as optimistic because they believe that Kino redeems himself when he throws the pearl back into the ocean. In the last paragraph of the novel, Steinbeck makes a hard shift from a deep melancholy tone to a calm peaceful tone a shift that has aroused the interests of many Steinbeck readers. He uses the word lovely and the color green multiple times in just a few sentences to show the peacefulness of the pearl s new resting place (90). Did Victor create this so called monster to have a friend, the one thing the monster wished for? Victor denied his friendship to the monster, but why? The joy of creating life, the monster, overruled his judgment. He was denying the fact he had committed such a vile act upon humanity. He even says, A being whom myself had formed, and eluded with life, had met me at midnight among the precipices of an inaccessible mountain. 3 Victor may have admitted to creating the monster, but he denied that he had driven the monster to commit murder. He needed to admit, not only to himself, but to his family that he was the one responsible for William s murder. By not admitting this, he allowed his friend Clerval and his wife Elizabeth to be murdered as well. His determination that his secret not be discovered became his downfall. Victor was responsible for every action of his own and for the actions of the monster. Frankenstein s monster only wanted to be accepted for what he was. The monster needed a friend. Someone he could talk to, someone to love him, and someone to love back. Friendship was not possible. Unfortunately, the human race is very shallow. • 14. George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four Who said Fiction was Fake? Imagine a place where the government is feared and seen as the center of the universe. No one dares to go against it because of the torture and punishments that can occur. Propaganda is everywhere, and no one knows what is the truth and what is a lie. Not knowing if today will be your last. This may seem like an insight to a fictional novel, but this is not the case, this is a reality for some people. Like in the novel Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, the North Korean government uses fear to control their citizens, and supervises the type of media presented through technology. By running everything through a totalitarian regime, no one has the power or courage to fight back (North Korea: Government) (Cha 13). What is a way to get even the most stubborn person to follow commands? Fear. Fear is an effective method of control that is used in both the governments of Nineteen Eighty Four and North Korea. Oceania, the country where the novel takes place, has telescreens that claim to be watching everyone at all times (Orwell 5). You had to live did live, from habit that became instinct in assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinised (Orwell 5). This kind of knowledge scares Winston and the citizens into obeying what the government says, since they don t want to do something that can give the government a reason to punish them. The conclusion of Passing demonstrates Clare Kendry s need to pay for denying and faking her identity. Throughout the novel, Clare acts as a white woman despite her true identity is actually that of a black. She feels that it is easier to be a white and uses white as a booster to gain status in her community. Clare expresses her belief that life is not as hard as a white, You d be surprised, Rene, how much easier that is with white people than with us (Larsen 25). Clare views white skin as a privilege, or more as like a ticket that gains her access to resources, and even luxury, she might want. Godzilla Vs Godzilla One of my favorite movie genres is the Kaiju film genre, which Kaiju means strange creature or giant monster that tends to have a giant monster destroying major cities and fighting the military and even other giant monsters. One of the most popular and the first Kaiju films was Godzilla. Godzilla one the most iconic character in pop culture, been starred in over thirty films including some American film adaptations. The most two recent films were Legendary s Godzilla (2014) and Shin Godzilla, with shin meaning New, True, or God. Both films were a reboot to the first film from 1954. While both films share some similarities with each other, they both have many differences in terms of plot, how the character is portrayed, and their meaning to the audience. The overall plot for Legendary s Godzilla is researchers found an ancient spore, which they began to preserve until nearly 15 years later it hatched. Now with two terrestrial organisms threatening the existence of humanity. Godzilla rises from the ocean to stop these two monsters called MUTO, an acronym for Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism, from reproducing and wreaking havoc. Godzilla s main role in this film is trying to restore nature s balance and order. In the end, Godzilla fights and kills the MUTOs. The people praises him as the savior of the city and the King of Monsters. • 17. Difference Between Prospect Theory And Prospect Theory INTRODUCTION Generally, it is believed the net effect of the gains and losses involved with each choice are combined to present an overall evaluation of whether a choice is desirable. Scholars tend to use utility to state enjoyment and contend that we prefer instances that maximize our utility. However, studies have found that we don t actually process information in such a rational way. Kahneman and Tversky presented an idea called prospect theory in 1979, which contends that people value gains and losses differently, and, as such, will base decisions on perceived profits rather than perceived losses. Thus, if a person were given two equal choices, one expressed in terms of possible gains and the other in possible losses, people would choose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 18. The Rising Of The Decembrist Russia The rising of the Decembrist Russia was due to a confusion over the next succession. In 1825, Alexander I died suddenly. Alexander s younger brother, Constantine, who was next in line, had no desire to assume the throne of such a burdensome empire, so he gave his right of succession to his brother Nicholas. Nicholas, however, had been left unaware of the official details of the change and on learning of Alexander s death he proclaimed Constantine emperor at St. Petersburg, at the same time as Constantine in Warsaw was proclaiming Nicholas. For nearly three weeks in December 1825 the throne remained vacant. Russian officers and troops had come into contact with currents of liberal thought, with new social conditions, and with new political institutions in western Europe during the struggle against Napoleon. Upon their return home they saw that the idea of the rights of man was regarded with contempt by their rulers, that their country by trodden under the heel of an autocracy which made all progress impossible. As they had no legitimate means making their desires known, they organised secret societies which agitated for reforms, including the establishment of a constitution. These societies, afterwards called the Decembrists, were planning a widespread uprising but, when Alexander suddenly died, resolved to take advantage of the uncertainty that existed regarding the succession to attempt a coup d etat. At the end of the book, the society Equality dreams of building with Liberty would not include these rules for several reasons. When the doctor went to get his car fixed, he was asked a riddle by the auto repair man and got it wrong. The doctor was very smart and the auto repair man knew it too, yet he was sure that he would trick the doctor because the doctor was too educated. It was true and even the doctor knew it. He was smart by the standards of education but there are different types of being smart like being street smart. All of these thinkers, in one way or another, were patriots as well as socialists and wanted Russia to be independent from any western ideas which they claimed were manipulative in a sense that, western ideas would shape rest of the world for their own interests. The mixture of ideas presented by these thinkers is exactly what Putin needs to unite the legacies of both the Russian and Soviet empires into a solid path dependant ideology. This ideology roughly says that Western countries spread some liberal and deleterious ideas essentially hostile to Russia s tradition, and deliberately aims to destroy Russia s historically unique culture that combines autocracy, orthodoxy and Slavic brotherhood. For this reason, Putin has no other choice but to protect the historical Russian borders from such civilization challenge. Putin has retained his thug image from his time in Leningrad. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the person and others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of this American woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity; inherited identity; resisted identity and resolved identity. On October 26th 1962, one of the most known authors was born: Amy Chua. Amy Chua was born in Champaign, Illinois in the Unites States. She was raised as a catholic. • 24. Reflection Paper On Color Guard Hey there! It s Monday, July 17. My sisters and I have packed and we are officially ready to leave for Color Guard camp. We are really excited for what is in store for us over the next few days. Last year s camp was difficult and made our guard wary of coming back for a second try, but hopefully they ve fixed last year s issues. The guard met up at the school this morning to be fitted for our fall costumes and we are now on our way to start day one of camp. This year campers are sleeping in Royer Hall, and I must admit, I believe that last year s dorms were nicer, especially considering every two rooms had their own bathroom. Other than the dorms, I admire the intensity of this year s camp much more than last year s. The advanced group s instructor, Rashaud, is a great teacher and I definitely believe that I will be learning and improving with him this week. The main purpose of today was to review the fundamentals of Colorguard such as: extensions on the left and right sides, drop spins, and a cone exercise. Using what we have learned today, we tried out for our levels; however, he has chosen not to assign groups until tomorrow! In addition, everyone participated in icebreaker games to better familiarize one another and become more familiar with our surroundings. This morning s cardio was strenuous, but the team seemed to get through it easily. After morning stretches and cardio, Rashaud told us what groups to report to. A Rose For Emily Symbolism Analysis The Symbolism of the Setting in Faulkner s and Hemingway s Stories The place where the story is set plays the most significant role in the majority of fiction pieces, since it is the setting that outlines the plot development and influences the heroes decisions and general characteristics. In Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants, the setting is raised to the symbolic level. When the outside portrayal does not correspond to what is happening inside the character, it adds a psychological perspective to the plot s analysis. Hemingway also introduces the setting with the first sentence when saying that the hills across the valley of the Ebro were long and white (229), and the whole location is drenched in the bright sunlight with people having no possibility to hide in the shadow of trees. With these words, the narrator wants to imply that this story is a kind of confession in which nothing will be hidden from attentive readers, though it may take time for them to realize what the usual conversation can hint at. Both heroines understand that certain changes are inevitable in their condition. They are confused by possible consequences and are scared stiff of what they are expected to do. While these emotions are not shown directly, they are shown through the setting. The meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per lines. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish the overall atmosphere. The implementation phase of the Chunnel Tunnel was rife with risks and issues as the project team opted to fast track the design and construction phases of the project (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 12). Fast tracking is described by the Project Management Institute (2013, p. 540) as a schedule compression technique in which activities or phases normally done in sequence are performed in parallel for at least a portion of their duration. Typically, project teams use this technique in hopes of shortening the delivery timeframe with the knowledge that this approach makes the project susceptible to additional risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 10). The Chunnel Tunnel project team chose to fast track overlap the execution of these two phases due to schedule delays and cost overruns in previous phases. For the project team, compressing the construction time was crucial to ensure that the project objectives would be completed. In time, banks and private investors recognized the incremental risks associated with continuous delays and began weighing in on project decisions to minimize risks (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Financial stakeholders expected a return on investment (ROI) and the project team allowed them to have too much control when recommending risk mitigation strategies (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). Thus, subcontractor contracts were changes to fixed price contract and later resulted in a contractor claim (Anbari, et al.,2005, p. 9). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
