Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory Of Family
Murray Bowen developed a new theory that focuses on how the family s emotions and
interactions as a unit can affect the individual and vice versa. (Marianne Schneider 2015) In this
theory patterns are constructed in the family to ease the stress created in families. (Baege. M.
2005) The Family Systems theory proposes that to get a better look inside what s going on with the
individual you must look at the family. (Marianne Schneider 2015) Outside influences and certain
issues that have been passed down from multiple generations determine their levels of stress and
anxiety. (Marianne Schneider 2015)
In Bowen s theory there are 8 intertwining concepts. (Baege. M.2005) The first concept is Triangles
which are a 3 person relationship system that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
( Baege, M. 2005) Lastly, according to Vermont Center of Family, Societal Emotional Process is
where society is a factor in the emotional systems behavior of a family member such as work and
social organizations. (Baege, M. 2005)
Family Systems Theory appeals to me because I have a large stepfamily and I feel this
perspective does help to figure out how to deal with problems that come up with individuals
while considering the whole family unit. I feel very strongly that family is important in
developing a person s strengths and self worth. There are lots of issues that can come up in a
stepfamily. Relationship triangles that the family systems theory talks about happened in a
dysfunctional way in my family. I believe the only way to get a better insight into one s
problems is to look at the family of origin and see the patterns and how everyone interacts and
affects everyone. It is also important to know the level of differentiation that family members
are at to help them have a sense of self outside of the family unit. In our family there has been a
lot of tension because of family members not knowing what their role was in the new family
unit. In my family it was very difficult to establish a parent role with a child that doesn t consider
you as a parent. I have seen certain children act out when they feel that they are not receiving
enough attention from the biological parent and then triangles result. In my experiences with my
stepfamily I feel family systems theory is a very good way for me to use my personal strengths
and experiences to help my clients to be self sufficient in dealing with their

The Insane Man In Middle School
It was like any ordinary Monday at our school, teenagers in the halls chatting, people eating during
first lunch, and teachers instructing their fourth period classes. But everything suddenly changed
when an unnatural looking figure approached the middle school. Slowly limping our direction, he
seemed kind of pale, had ripped clothing, and was grunting something unintelligible. Mr. Pixton, an
8th grade science teacher, went to go see what the strange man was up to. When Mr. Pixton got to
the mysterious man, the man charged and sank his teeth into his neck. In a panic most students
started to run away and scream. While the teacher fell to the ground, the individual unexpectedly
ran at another and bit them. As I realized what was happening,

Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
The Office of Financial Management provides vital information, fiscal services and policy support
that the Governor, Legislature and state agencies need to serve the people of Washington State
(Investopedia, 2010). Included in this briefing, a comparison of the governmental and for profit
financial accounting will be discussed, an understanding of the government reporting and reporting
entity, and an overview of the Management Discussion Analysis report for the state of Washington.

The Constitution details a limited number of circumstances under which funds can be appropriated
from the BSA, one of which is a favorable vote of at least three fifths of the members of each house
of the Legislature (State of Washington, CAFR, 2010). In the government wide and proprietary
fund financial statements, long term obligations of the state are reported as liabilities on the
Statement of Net Assets. Bonds payable are reported net of applicable original issuance premium or
discount. When material, bond premiums, discounts, and issue costs are deferred and amortized
over the life of the bonds. Conclusion While a budget might indicate that a specific government or
agency has financial trouble and debt because of excess spending or mismanagement within the
select grouping of general fund accounts presented, the CAFR may indicate, in whole, the same
government entity, has many facets possessing large holdings considerably over what is shown in a

What Is Huntington And His Criticism
Huntington and his Critics Introduction: The clash of civilization is a theory by Samuel
Huntington. In this theory, Huntington claims that the clash is inevitable. There is a new world
order we are facing that include major civilization fighting for their cultural existence. On the other
hand, many scholars opposed Huntington s ideology about the clash of civilization some of them
called him a great theorist using recycled conflicts as a method. In this paper, I will summarize
Huntington ideology and I will show why I think Fukuyama was right. Huntington claims that the
fundamental source of conflict between civilization will not be primarily ideological or primarily
economic, Huntington believes that the conflict will be more cultural which... Show more content

One of them is Edward Said who accused Huntington to be a great theorist, using recycled version
of conflicts. Said claims that Huntington ideology of the west remain strong and its opponents weak
and divided is very interventionist and aggressive attitude towards other civilizations. Said suggests
to embrace ideas to help the world to understand and try to reconcile between cultures. Huntington
picked small handful of authorities and not the cultures themselves. Said claim that that the
Muslims got better thing to do rather than being an anti Western. Fouad Ajami, is contrasting
Huntington s point of view by saying it is not civilizations that control states but, rather states that
control civilizations. he uses the example of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, when many major
Muslim countries joined the Unites stated against their fellow Muslim state. Amaryta Sen, noted

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control On A College Campus
Gun control is a major topic in today s society and It is broken into many subcategories that all
have different arguments and views. A few examples are The Second Amendment is not an
unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and more gun control
leads to fewer suicides in the United States. The guncontrol category I am focusing on in this essay
is, should teachers and students be able to carry firearmson a college campus. I chose this since I
am currently attending college and this could have an effect directly on me or ASU. The idea of
teachers and staff being able to carry firearms on a college campus has come up many times in
the media recently due to the rise in mass shootings. Many states are now looking at this
problem and voting on it. This topic is always heavily debated due to the many different sides
and varying beliefs on gun control and safety. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has a
heavy influence on the united states and who should be allowed guns and what legislation is
passed. The gun control topic of firearms on a college campus has become politicized and is
commonly drawn into political debates and has become a political tool for winning elections.
Some states have already voted and taken action on this new idea and have allowed staff to carry
guns on campuses and in cars parked and locked in secure parking lots. Another major idea that is
constantly brought up with campus carry and firearms on campuses is student

Comparing Media Images Of Criminological Research Essay
iii.Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research
The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its
depictions of the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a
staple on film, television, and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact,
that it dates back all the way to the Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every
group in history has had their mythologies and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call
them superheroes. For example, Achilles only had one weakness (his heel) and was by the
Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek gods.org). The same goes for heroes like Perseus,
Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though instead of being changed into a super soldier in a
lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal suit in the desert, these heroes were part god
which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super crime fighters have always existed, but when
comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules was created to guide their content to be
more appropriate than the Greek tales (Coville).
The Comics Code was a list of regulations regarding the depiction of certain events in comic books
maintained by the Comics Magazine Association of America (Nyberg). The code was very strict
and eventually challenged by Stan Lee (one of the creators of Marvel) through a story arc in the
Spiderman Comics that dealt with drug abuse.

Color Blindness Essay
Color Blindness
Many people refer to problems with one s ability to see color as color blindness, however, unless a
person can t see any color at all, color vision problems should be called by another term. Common
terms are abnormal color vision, color deficiency and color vision confusion. Females maybe be
effected by color blindness, but usually they are just carriers. Males are more often affected.
About 8% of males and 0.5% of females are effected by color blindness. Although color blindness
may be a result of another eye disorder, the majority of color blind cases are hereditary and present
at birth. The retina, is a complex nerve system which converts light energy into electrical energy

This is the rarest form of color blindness. This is when no colors can be seen at all. The color
receptors are almost completely gone in this form, however, the white and black receptors
remain intact. However, this condition is often misdiagnosed without proper testing. There are
three basic types of color blindness: deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia. Deuteranopia is a
condition in which people have trouble dealing with green. These people are one of the largest
groups of color blind people. Very often, these people also have a problem with red. These
people can often distinguish red or green when with other colors, but when it is by itself, it is
very difficult. Many people will just see it as white. Protanopia are those seem to need an
abnormal amount of red or have no sense of red color vision. Often, people will see bold red as
black or nonexistent. Some people may see red orange as brown and yellow green as brown. In
other words, neither red or green can often be distinguished for sure. Tritanopia are those who
have trouble distinguishing blue and yellow. This disorder is much less common than the red
green colorblindness, and is usually acquired, not received through heredity. These people may
see both blue and yellow as white. They may even see mint green or pink as an equal to light blue.
Red color blindness is the most common. This is when the red color receptors are nonexistent. These

The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the dawn of Chinese economic reform under Deng
Xiaoping in 1978 promised to produce somewhat parallel long term results for two of the world s
largest economies. Although China and Russia mirrored each other in the nature of the transitions
they were undertaking at the time, their trajectories for future economic and political change are
now diverging. Despite the fact that both China and post soviet Russiawould ultimately tip the scale
away from central economic planning toward market based systems and global integration, the
approaches and circumstances surrounding these economic shifts are completely different. Initially,

The USSR had experienced two decades of stability under Brezhnev, but this era was coupled
with rising corruption and weighty foreign policy issues like the US arms race and the invasion
of Afghanistan. Contrasting economic preconditions of the movement toward market based
models also influenced patterns of change and development in Russia and China at the end of
the 20th century. For example, by the close of the 1980 s, Russia stood as a seasoned industrial
power with a sizeable, well educated, urban labor force. Militarily, it was on par with the United
States and had developed a strong presence in science and technology development.
Contrastingly, when China began its own transition almost a decade earlier, at the end of the
1970 s its economy was still predominantly rooted in agriculture. 80% of the nation s population
(as compared with 15% for Russia) consisted of uneducated agrarian peasantry, and the country
had little stake in industry or scientific innovation. In the wake of the soviet state s collapse,
Russia faced a dropping population and a deficit of available labor, while China s population was
considered very large relative to its productivity. Though these demographic factors allowed for
cheaper, more readily available labor in China, Russia vastly outstripped China in terms of natural

Medical Studies Of Diabetes
Diabetes Due to the need for close monitoring of blood glucose and insulin level in the body,
there have been various studies done regarding the various insulin regimens that are available
today. Before we get into the details of the studies conducted, it is only relevant to give an
overview of the problem at hand. Type I Diabetes or as it also known juvenile onset diabetes is a
disorder that is normally diagnosed in young adults or children. This form of diabetes results
from the destruction of the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. With auto immune
destruction being the most common cause, type I diabetes is a lifelong disease. Insulin is the
basic treatment for Diabetes in about 30% of the diabetic patients in the United States. (Centers
for Disease control, 2008)It should be noted that insulin is present in three different forms and a
person needs to take the regimen that is most suitable for them. As mentioned earlier, too much
insulin given at a time can cause a person to go in hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is way more
fatal than increased glucose levels. The 30 year old female in our case was taking the Insulin
Basal bolus that consisted of novo rapid and glargine. There has been much concern over the
efficacy of a basal regimen to a pre mixed insulin form. A study conducted by Mathieu et. al
(2013) was done to see how the change in regimen switch is tolerated. This change is the opposite
of what we are proposing for the 30 year old female. In the Atlantic

The Human Body, A Biological Organization Of Physiological...
Introduction The human body, a biological organization of physiological cascades, is surprisingly
fragile but yet highly adaptable to withstand the varying challenges encountered in the lifetime of
an individual. From chronic illnesses to acute and rapidly changing events, the integrated
cooperation between human organ systems can dramatically influence the potential outcomes of a
patient. It is multiple deployments of singular compensatory mechanisms in response to abnormal
changes that provides this infinite flexibility. While this continuous flexibility is illustrated in
lifestyle diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, its role in acute attention demanding events are
remarkable. An example of such an attention demanding occurrence... Show more content on

Cases of hemothoraxes have occurred in a range of ages from neonatal to geriatric, however, clinical

Candide, By Voltaire And Optimism
Candide or Optimism is one of the works of Voltaire. This novella mainly satirizes philosophical
optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was
created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his
tutor Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candidelooks
to Dr. Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens
Candide looks to Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that
there is no effect without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country
seat was the most beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire,
20). This idea was supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence
came from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. Voltaire did not agree with this
philosophy, hence, he created a brutal satire of optimism in Candide. This is clearly demonstrated

its six commandments, which at the moment is only being filled by 37% of Catholics, at the most

Identifying and analyzing global integrated marketing campaigns
Abstract
Integrated marketing is a strategy regarding the application of consistent brand messaging across
myriad marketing channels. It came about after businesses realized that they needed to offer their
customers more than the regular method of advertising. Integrated communication is mainly focused
on the consumer rather than the needs of an organization. It has improved the performance of many
businesses in various markets and their brands. This paper seeks to identify the global integrated
marketing campaigns and analyze them with the use of case studies in the television and print
media.
Introduction
In order for a business to create awareness of its products and convince people to buy them, it
needs to do a promotion of the product. This involves communication. The goal of promotion is
create awareness to consumers of a certain product in the market. Secondly, to persuade customers
to choose their product compared to rival products. Lastly, promotion aims to remind the customers
on the importance of buying the product. There are five main types of promotions:
Advertising
Personal selling
Sales promotion
Direct marketing
Public relations
The concept of integrated marketing communication (IMC) emerged in the late twentieth century.
This bore out of a realization by marketers that there was a need for businesses to offer more than
advertisements to their

My faith and how I lived in my faith made serves as a lasting example to believers in Christ
(Lindslay, 3). In life, I believed that all work that I did was spiritual work for the betterment of the
Lord s kingdom. Whether I was writing, ministering, eating out, or simply talking with friends,
all work, all things, all I did was for the advancement of the Lord s kingdom. For the work of a
Beethoven or the work of a charwoman were all the same in my eyes; for both the workers, their
work should be offered to God and done humbly as to the Lord (Eshlemen, 2). Although I
struggled with cynicism, this way of living life challenged and brought new meaning to my life
(Lindslay, 3). This idea on the life I lived and how I lived the life I was given serves as an
example of Colossians 3:17 for Christians who wish to live and long to live in similar fashions
(The Holy, 237). This way of living my faith truly required me to be quite public and open with
my thoughts and beliefs. My faith was not always outright and public. When I was young, my
family was my first spiritual influence (Eshlemen, 5). My faith started when I was young, but was
shattered with the death of my mother when I was ten years of age (Lindslay, 1). This tragedy

Essay about ThailandВґs International Trade Policy
I. Introduction Improving the value of exports is the primary goal of Thailand s international trade
policy. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Community (AEC) was
established as an effective cooperative strategy for gaining market advantages through regional
market integration. Thailand aims to capitalize on trade agreements by networking and entering
partnership with neighboring countries. Currently, Thailand s cross border trade in the Greater
Mekong Subregion (GMS) plays a crucial role in globalization, because it facilitates rapid and
convenient trade and investment. Countries seek new export markets to disperse the risk of

However, GMS countries hold differing perspectives on the management of geographic and
economic potentials. This supposition has been considered a key factor in GMS economies,
specifically because geographic proximity leads to similarities in ethnicities, religions and
culture. The high annual revenues Thailand receives through trade with neighboring GMS
countries is an indicator of considerable increases in future trade. Thus, to determine the
directionality of competitiveness among GMS markets, Thailand is a suitable basis for
assessing the benefits and differences among GMS countries, as well as how these aspects drive
the GMS economies. This study was conducted to (a) determine which market is the most
dynamic for Thai exports, (b) measure the intensity of trade between Thailand and its regional
trading partners and (c) test whether the modified Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA)
index, which was developed based on the gravity trade model, is applicable for measuring
Thailand s competitiveness resulting from its border trade policy. The RCA index is typically
applied based on three conceptual points. First, the trade balance index (TBI) can be used to
indicate whether GMS countries are net exporters or importers. Second, the trade balance is
typically decomposed by product and country (i.e., bilateral trade balance). Relevance refers to the
degree of concentration of trade imbalances

O weary lady, Geraldine,/I pray you, drink this cordial wine!/It is a wine of virtuous powers

Australia The Land Of Opportunity Essay
Before the 11th of September, 2001, Australia had been a home to the Al Jamil family. Granted, it
was never the same as their home country of Iraq, but it was a place to live and they were content.
Australia, the Land of Opportunity, would bring her family success and happiness. The day that
news services across the globe began to broadcast the events of 9/11 was the day that this began to
change.

It happened slowly at first, with strange looks in the street and the word terrorist constantly on
the lips of strangers. But soon it became obvious to the Fatimah, as whispers turned into harsh
words, and harsh words became fists. The day that her younger brother, Farhad, came home from
school with a black eye, and tears rolling down his face, was the day that the change became
physical. Mama and Papa called the school, asking for answers, but were given none, being told
that if no teacher had seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Greed Is Good By Neel Burton
Introduction Throughout society, several individuals ponder on the notion: How does greed lead
to one s demise? However, before discussing the consequences of greed, one must consider its
motives. Greed is developed when an individual faces adversity early on in life or becomes
envious of others because it motivates them to search for an alternative that fills the void of
deprivation. To guarantee that their desire is fulfilled, their greed will lead them to perform
impulsive and irrational actions, resulting in their demise.
Motives for Greed The origins of greed stem from encountering hardships at a young age and
becoming excessively jealous of others. Within an article titled: Is Greed Good, Neel Burton
argues that greed often arises from early negative experiences such as parental inconsistency,
neglect, or abuse. In later life, feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, often combined with low self
esteem, lead the person to fixate on a particular substitute for what she once needed but could not
find (Burton). When an individual is prematurely exposed to adversity, they are withheld from
fulfilling their desires or needs because their oppression prevents them from doing so. As a result,
they dwell obsessively upon an alternative for what he or she is deprived of, leading to their
greediness because they will go to great lengths to ensure that their desires are achieved.
Furthermore, in Othello, Iago expresses, Till I am even d with him, wife for wife, / Or

Moby Dick, By Herman Melville
Moby Dick, written by Herman Melville, has captivated the eyes of countless readers for more
than a century. The novel s incorporation of Romanticism and the American Renaissance
recognizes it as an exceptionally renowned work of American literature. To create this epic tale,
Melville uses the encounters that the Pequod has with other whaling ships, known as gams,
combined with symbols and omens. Melville, who uses many chapters in the novel to provide
information about whaling, designates the entirety of chapter 53, The Gam , to explain gams: a
social meeting of two (or more) Whale ships, generally on a cruising ground; when, after
exchanging hails, they exchange visits by boats crews: the two captains remaining, for the time, on

The fact that Ahab immediately asks the captain of the Goney about Moby Dick, without any
formal introduction, displays his monomania in full effect. He gets straight to the point and
throws introduction out the window, as he cares only about information that will benefit him
and his chase for Moby Dick. The Goney s captain is unable to reply to Ahab, but Ahab does not
really care about this, as he chooses rather to take advantage of his windward position (258).
Although the two ships do not have a proper gam, Melville s story of the gam clearly exploits
Ahab s monomania. He has no interest for the Goney because they have nothing practical to
offer him with regards to his search for Moby Dick. However, as the two ships pass one another,
fish that were swimming along the Pequod leave and swim to the Goney: shoals of small
harmless fish, that for some days before had been placidly swimming by our side, darted away
with what seemed shuddering fins, and ranged themselves fore and aft with the stranger s flanks
(258). According to sailors, an Albatross is a symbol for good luck. Therefore, Melville uses the
migration of the fish away from the Pequod to represent a bad omen for the fate of Ahab and his
crew. Since the Goney is also named the

Critical Analysis Paper On Nursing
Critical Reflective Analysis Paper The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon my original
definition of nursing metaparadigm concepts critically, and to determine if any changes in my
perception towards practice have occurred. The focus of the paper is to critically analyze the
transformations that have occurred in my approach to practice. The critical analysis of nursing
metaparadigm concepts has resulted in the transformation of my thinking regarding a person,
nursing, and environment while my perception regarding the health remains same. Firstly, I
discovered the importance of the concept of development in the definition of a person. Secondly, I

Health I defined health as a physical, social, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing of a
person which is vastly shaped by their environment. This definition falls under totality paradigm.
This is so because, according to totality paradigm, health is defined according to societal norms.
Society sets a benchmark for what health is. Hence, health can be measured as compared to the
societal norm. If the person deviates from the societal norm then the person is considered unhealthy.
Similarly, I mention in my definition that health is something that is maintained by the stability of
different aspects of the person. The benchmark of stability is usually set by society. My definition
does not fall into simultaneity paradigm because unlike my definition, simultaneity paradigm states
that health is not defined by the benchmark of society rather, health is defined only by a person,
and only the person knows what health means to them. Environment According to me, environment
denotes a person s surrounding including their family, community, culture, beliefs, and values.
Environment shapes the person s health and wellbeing as well as their own view towards the
definition of being healthy. My view on the concept of environment relates to Parse s (1987) totality
paradigm. Totality paradigm states that the environment is something within which the person
exists. It influences the way in which the person functions. Similarly, I believe that the environment

America s Foreign Policy In The Late 19th Century
The foreign policy of the U.S. continued to let Great Britain police the world since, They who
controlled the seas, controlled the world, and England s great navy dominated the individual sea
power of Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and the United States. While Germany swept through
Poland and ignored the western front with France and England, it generated a wishful conclusion
that it was phony war.
The U.S. had no effective war machine, so it launched a crash program of airfields, staging
bases, war planes and ordinance. In 1940, Western Contracting Corporation entered a joint
venture with Lytle, Klinger and Arthur Newman Co. of Des Moines, to build the Fort Leonard
Wood 20,000 man army base in the Missouri Ozarks. These 90 day wonders took some doing,
and at the construction peak, we had 31,000 men on the payroll. The work was finished on time,
including a 16 mile access railroad across some sizeable rivers. Western then bid in a portion of an

The Effects Of The War On The Criminalization Of Black People
The criminal justice system targets black males more frequently than anyone through the
creation of political propaganda such as the war on drugs. This measure was taken to
disenfranchise and criminalize black people. Anyone who openly accepts a group of people,
would not go through such drastic measures to suppress them. According to an article in the
Huffington Post written by Law professor Bill Quigley whites and blacks engage in drug
offenses, possession and sales, at roughly comparable rates...while African Americans comprise
13% of the US population and 14% of monthly drug users they are 37% of the people arrested for

Theoretical Frameworks For Counselling Offer Guiding...
Theoretical frameworks in counselling offer guiding perspectives and direction informing
professional practice. As a practitioner I am drawn to post modernist approaches that position the
human experience as a social construction, and reality as a result of perception, language and
culture ( ). Embedded however within that social construction for me is the necessity to consider
the broader social and political climate and issues of power that may play a role in the human
experience. As a counsellor, I would like to align with a therapeutic approach that values the
diversity and experience of multiple realities, and that supports clients in finding their power both
within and outside the counselling session. Embracing the client counsellor... Show more content on

Armed with this new awareness, the therapeutic process from a feminist perspective was
reconceptualized to include an emphasis on social and political forces and an acknowledgement of
their role in disempowerment for women (Brown, 2010). Additionally, the seed of creating a more
respectful and humanistic approach to the counselling relationship was planted. Raising the
consciousness of clients around power and focusing on societal transformation rather than
individual adjustment became the identify of feminist therapy and to what Lerner (1993) referred to
as the feminist consciousness . This perspective afforded practitioners a new way to view problems
presented in therapy.
Enns (2004) highlighted two such new views related to client problems. First, the perspective
that, the personal is political emphasized that problems arising for women within therapy cannot
be disconnected from the larger social and political context. To consider problems in therapy
solely on an intrapersonal level is to perpetuate a blame the victim orientation. Therefore, it was
essential that an integrated analysis of oppression was explored. Second, problems and symptoms
may be conceived of as ways of coping and surviving oppressive circumstances. Anxiety may be
reframed, not as the result of a suppressed unconscious or the inability to cope, but rather as a
reasonable response to sexisms, violence or

The Dark Side Of The Snow Falls
While the snow falls behind the rusted bars, the King is laughing alone in the dungeon. His
guffaws echo back by the moist cobblestone and bounce off to nothing but the warm body of the
dead on the bloody wooden table. In contrast to the sticky red is a shiny crown and a bubbling
matte bottle. As the cold breeze turns into a gale, the King picks up the bottle with sickly sweet
poison and pours down into his throat. Once upon a time, there was a young man who could
control temperatures of anything with his mind, but he never revealed his secret to anyone in
the village. He just wanted to be a normal person like everyone else and protect his quiet life.
Whenever there was a chance, he would go to the garden behind the village. Watching fields of
baby s breath dance with the lead of the cold breeze and waiting until every single of them is
changing into orange grabs are the things he like to do the most. He liked to stay in the garden
rather than helping his grandparents farm, but he would always use his ability to secretly support
the plantation. Day after day, the huge field of crops grew better and better even with no one but
two elderlies watching. In the beginning, everything went nice and smooth and two elderlies were
even giving out the harvests to others, but as the time went by, the villagers began to question the
family. Like how good time usually don t last long, the rumors about magical farming skills begin

Analyse Two or Three of Heaney s Poems to Show How Common...
Heaney s first anthology Death of a Naturalist is the best source for poems that show how common
and often mundane things are described in beautiful language and rediscovered as meaningful
activities. Digging , Blackberry Picking and Personal Helicon are prime examples of Kavanagh s
words.
When reading the name of the poem Digging , it seems like it will be about nothing at all.
Digging is a basic and ordinary activity and the reader does not expect anything meaningful when
reading the poem. This is deceptive, because the first two lines present readers with a sense of
choice. Heaney immediately makes them aware of the deeper issue of the subject he is about to
explore and therefore creates an alertness in them.

He digs with such intensity that he rests only to drink a bottle of milk before returning to his task.
The grandfather s professionalism is contrasted to Heaney s clumsiness, because he brings his
grandfather a bottle of milk corked sloppily with paper (20).
It is clear that the seventh stanza is no longer about digging. It is about something far more
significant. Heaney remembers the act of digging and it is no longer poetic. He describes the
smell of potato mould as cold (25) and the sounds are no longer clean and precise. This sudden
reality of the messiness of digging implies that Heaney is no longer referring to the activity, but
rather is returning to the violence of the first stanza. The choice he gives is the pen or the gun and
in the last line of the seventh stanza Heaney states that he has no spade to follow men like (28) his
father and grandfather.
Ultimately. Heaney chooses the pen over the gun and therefore poetry over violence. The last stanza
shows that Heaney has faith in his poetry to make a difference. He believes that it can solve
problems that can not be resolved with a gun.
Digging is not a poem about an ordinary and simple activity, but rather a metaphor of choice
between poetry and violence. Blackberry Picking is similar in its function, but broaches a different
subject.
Again the heading names a simple and ordinary

In Labyrinth , David Bowie s character, Jareth, the goblin king, was originally supposed to be a

device, irony, to create surprise in the viewer. One type of irony is verbal, which is a sentence a

Lastly, situational irony is when something happens when you don t expect. In general, there are
three types of irony that authors use as a literary device to create the element of surprise.

Factors Influencing Organisational Structure Essay
Introduction
The influence of factors on organizational structure and their impact on the organization has been in
focus by researchers since many years. This paper reviews the literature and analyses the factors
that influence the structure and design of organizations. Organizational structures are mainly
grouped as functional and divisional structures on the basis of functions or jobs. The most
important and powerful tool for enhancing performance in an organization is the organizational
design although there is no perfect or unique design. Organizational change occurs when a company
makes a shift from its present state to a desired state, which is necessary in today s competitive
environment.

The factors that contribute to development of an organization include its size, technology human
resources, production program and environmental requirements. The role of political environment
is also stressed. For effective and also efficient utilization of resources, designing an ideal
organizational structure is important. Some of the factors that affect the organizational structure
are decentralization of decision making, customer interaction, value of innovation and marketing
considerations. They can be grouped into two factors: internal that was from environment under the
firm s control and external, that were not under the control of the firm. Today, companies require
undergoing changes almost constantly to remain competitive. Globalization of markets and rapidly
growing technology force organizations to respond in order to survive. The ultimate competitive

This technology is essentially a machine that allows objects and people to teleport to other

now must travel to Mars in a timely matter. To avoid months aboard a spaceshuttle on a trip from
Earth to Mars, a tele transporter is utilized. Parfits tele transporter scans the body and mental states,

He illiterates this claim by a thought experiment involving torture. In this hypothetical Williams
tells individuals that they will be tortured at noon the following day. Naturally everyone feels
uneasy about this. In order to easy this feeling, Williams tells those waiting to be tortured that
before noon the individual s entire memory will be erased. Williams argues that if memory is
necessary for personal identity, this news should put any feelings of uneasiness to rest. When
asked, the individual still reports feeling uneasy about the torture. Williams repeats this process
altering the scenario from amnesia to exchanging the memories of the individual who will be
torured for those of another. Again when prompted the individual still feels uneasy about the
torture. Williams claims that this is proof of the body being just as necessary as the memories.
However, this is not a fair analysis of the situation. When the individual is told of their torture as a
matter of fact, it is a natural reaction to feel uneasy. This is similar to feeling anxious about a
public speaking event that unexpectedly gets canceled right before taking the stage. There will
remain a sense of anxiety until the event causing that feeling is gone. Likewise, the feeling of
unrest will remain present until the moment of memory loss. This therefore fails as an example to
increase the importance of the body in regards to

Tumor-Associated Macrophages Case Study
Introduction
Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) are a major cellular component of both mouse and human
tumors (Pollard, 2004;
Lewis and Pollard, 2006). High numbers of TAMs in human tumors usually correlate with reduced
patient survival (Bingle et al., 2002; Zhang et al., 2012), and studies in mice have shown that TAMs
promote important steps in tumor progression including tumor angiogenesis, cancer cell invasion,
metastasis, and the suppression of adaptive anti tumor immunity (Noy and
Pollard, 2014). TAMs also mediate or limit the efficacy of various forms of anti cancer therapies
(De Palma and Lewis, 2013).
Recent fate mapping experiments have shown that macrophages in steady state tissues can
originate from at least three

Moreover, TAM distribution can vary between different types of tumor, and between primary or
metastatic tumors (Lewis and Pollard, 2006). Importantly, across several types of human tumor, the
abundance of a distinct subset of PV macrophages has been shown to correlate with increased
tumor angiogenesis, distant metastasis, poor prognosis, and/or the recurrence of tumors after
chemotherapy in various forms of cancer (Kurahara et al., 2012; Matsubara et al., 2013; Robinson
et al., 2009).
As discussed in later sections, the markers expressed by PV macrophages vary between primary and
metastatic tumors.
However, a unifying feature is their proximity to blood vessels
(sometimes making direct contact with endothelial cells or pericytes), or their preference for highly
vascularized tumor areas.
This contrasts with the majority of TAMs found elsewhere in tumors
(Lewis and Pollard, 2006). This review discusses recent studies demonstrating an array of tumor
promoting functions for PV macrophages in both primary and secondary tumors
(summarized in Figure 1).
Tumor Angiogenesis
A distinct subset of PV TAMs has been shown to regulate angiogenesis in various mouse primary
tumor models and to correlate with microvessel density in human tumors. BM transplant
experiments conducted by De Palma et al. (2003, 2005) identified a subset of BM derived TAMs
that cluster around tumor blood vessels and express higher levels of the angiopoietin receptor,
TIE2, and the mannose receptor,

Hacking Is Generally By A Negative Connotation
Hacking is generally accompanied by a negative connotation. In this article, however, the reader is
subjected to a new definition of hacking, and it is extremely progressive and interesting. In their
abstract, authors Gregory Donovan and Cindi Katz state we focus on these issues through the lens
of technological interactions known as hacking, wherein people playfully engage computer
technologies for the intrinsic pleasure of seeing what they can do (197). It is clear from this
sentence that these authors have a unique outlook on hacking, and as the reader gets farther into the
article he or she begins to derive the ultimate goal of the article: to depict hacking not as a negative
thing, but rather one of a beneficial, mind developing learning tool for children to better understand
computers and technology that they will be using for their whole lives. The main question which
the authors of this article seem to be addressing is how can computer programming, curious
exploration (Donovan and Katz 198) of the Internet, avoiding Internet filters or security methods, et
cetera, be seen as positive, developmental and acceptable actions for youth who are constantly
subjected to technology? Because young people are generally much more active within their

not leave the range of those few hours. It presents several stream of consciousness devices: indirect

her awareness of reality while she responds to it. Septimus, by contrast, is not always able to
distinguish between his personal response and the external reality in his madness, he feels that if
the birds sing they must be speaking to him; if the aero plane writes in the sky it must be signaling
to him. Even though the two never meet, these two correspond in that they attempt to maintain
possession of themselves, of their souls. Almost all the action occurs in the thoughts of characters,
and, the reader must piece together the story from random pieces of information that Woolf
provides. The point of view changes from one character to the other so naturally that the reader
only realizes it much later. Woolf s characters reveal their depths gradually and slowly; fragments
of thought and memory emerge as they respond to and interact with their environment and other
characters , and from these fragments we piece together each character s past. While most
conventional 3rd person narratives stick close to one character, this narrative gets close to many.
The characters in this type of narrative, especially Mrs. Dalloway are round, this is, are complex,
they have been through a process of transformation throughout the novel being able to in a

idea of the character mind.

This son is also seen dedicating himself to football. The scenes highlight his passion and hard

as his brother s. His mother is rarely seen in the music video. She only makes one appearance

interest in their education. He spends his free time gambling and drinking with rebellious people.
The contrast in the lifestyles of the two brothers suggests that the factors of behavior vary in each

this when it mentions that their only building tool was mudbrick due to their lack of
resources(document 1). They were able to brilliantly adapt to their surroundings and were able to
invent things like the arch and the dome out of hardened mud. Mud brick was also used to create
the ziggurat(document 7). Mud brick was their only resource because they were so isolated from
everything else. They also could really only inhabit the euphrates river because the Tigris river
would flood a lot, so that s why all of the cities are on the Euphrates (document 2).

Symbolism In Lord Of The Glies In William Golding s Lord...
In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the conch to enforce that without proper leadership,
people become more prone to be disorganized and power hungry. The conch initially serves as a
tool for the prosperity of the boys. Yet, over time, the conch loses it s value, leading to the boys
living in a disorganized society and causing some to strive for power. The effectiveness of the
conch continues on the same downward spiral and eventually becomes obsolete, as the boys
fight for the right to rule each other. When the boys reach the island, the conch is viewed as a
symbol of power and acts as a tool to organize the boys. When the conch is first discovered by
Ralph and Piggy on the beach, Piggy identifies the strange looking object in the sand and
exclaims A conch he called it. On someone s back wall. A conch he called it. He used to blow it
and then his mum would come. It s ever so valuable (18). Upon the conch s discovery, the boys
are clearly enthralled with it, displaying their intentions to use the conch to call attention and
create order. At this early stage of the story, some of the boys are concerned with using tools that
symbolize power and creating a society that has a strong structure. It was understood between the
boys that the conch was a tool to allow for cooperation and understanding. Moments later, Piggy
states that the boys can use this to call the others. They ll come when they hear us (20). In this
passage, Piggy states his belief that the boys

The Pros And Cons Of Libertarian Paternalism
I.Libertarian paternalism is a choice infrastructure that public or private institutions can nudge
choosers to make better choices whereas people s freedom of choices is preserved (Thaler and
Sunstein, 2003). Due to the increasing recognition of retirement saving crisis where people save
much less than is desirable, booming aging population and increasing uncertainty over the
effectiveness and impacts of traditional incentives such as tax relief, automatic enrolment (AE) is
called as a potential solution in the domain of retirement saving. This essay argues against the
current AE scheme in the UK National Employment Savings Trust and argues that while
theoretically AE can be a sensible answer to the problem of retirement saving it has a problematic
choice infrastructure which might lead to sub optimal outcomes and is facing uncertain costs. The
reminder of this essay proceeds as follows. Section II presents how nudge works in AE. Section III
focuses on the limitations of the AE s default options and presents the reasons why this scheme
might lead to sub optimal outcomes. Section IV concludes by suggesting possible solutions.
II.First, people suffer from inertia, procrastination and status quo basis when they are making
decisions. Overwhelmed by numerous saving options which require strong mathematic... Show

The main concern of the automatic enrolment is that it assumes that government or choice designer
knows best and makes judgement about people s best interests and that of society (Halpern, 2015).
This issue can be partly addressed by the fact that people have low level of financial education thus
tend to make bad decisions and that people s rights to drop out are guaranteed. However, to avoid
misusage by unscrupulous government, transparency and disclosure requirement should be
improved. To boost employee engagement, simpler pension system and personalized guidance are

The Causes And Complications Of Devil Facial Tumour Diseases
Devil facial tumour disease, also known as DFTD, is a clonally transmissible cancer exclusively
found in the Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii)(C.E Hawkins et al., 2006). It is transmitted
as an allograft (Pearse Swift, 2006), making it an extremely abnormal disease, as it is one of
very few known transmissible cancers. The other known transmissible cancers are Canine
Transmissible Venereal Tumor (CTVT) in Dogs (Murgia et al., 2006), Contagious Reticulum Cell
Sarcoma in Syrian Hamsters (Cooper et al.,1964) and a form of transmissible Leukaemia in Soft
Shelled Clams (Metzger et al. 2015). Out of the other three known transmissible cancers, only
CTVT is spread as an allograft, like DFTD.

It is theorised to have originated from a mutated Schwann cell in this individual after use of DFTD
tr anscriptome and microRNA sequencing showed that almost half the genes involved in DFTD
were involved in myelination pathways, a component of Schwann Cells (Murchison et al., 2009).
The disease is highly infectious, and has spread at a rapid speed through the population, with it
spreading from the first sole report in the very north eastern corner of Tasmania in 1996, to
occurring across 59% of the Tasmanian Mainland just over 10 years later in 2007 (Figure 1).
Recent findings have also shown that a new Facial Tumour Disease, called DFT2, has arisen
recently. It is indistinguishable from DFTD apart from on a histological level and has only been
discovered in 5 individuals so far (Pye et al. 2015). This disease is so far limited to the south
eastern Channel Peninsula, but suggests that this species is particularly vulnerable to clonally
transmissible cancers of this nature.
What does the disease look like, how does it affect them?
The disease has affected population numbers as such.
The disease was discovered to be spread as an allograft (a tissue graft between non identical
members of the same species) between the Devils after genetic sequencing revealed that tumours
from different individuals contained identical anomalies in the chromosomal arrangement, too

Winter Wonderland Research Paper
Living in a winter wonderland can be enjoyable with lots of snow for skiing and freezing weather
and ice for skating. Cold climates can have their drawbacks as well. For instance, if you live in
areas that have freezing temperatures, then you might be familiar with what damage frozen water
pipes in your home can do. A sudden or unexpected drop in temperature, especially at night, may
catch you off guard if you have not taken the proper precautions to winterize your home s water
pipes. Then your winter wonderland can become can become a living nightmare.
It is most unpleasant to deal with frozen water pipes on the outside or underneath your home. In a
scenario of having water pipes freeze and burst inside the house, it can be downright disastrous.

If you do not know a pipe has frozen and has been damaged, when the frozen water thaws enough
to allow water flow to return, this is when unexpected flooding can occur due to a burst pipe.
Frozen water applies thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch on a pipe, so it is no
wonder that they sometimes break. If you happen to be away from home when this happens, it
spells disaster.
If you have a pipe that burst unexpectedly, shuts off the valve to that pipe. You may need to turn
off all the water to your home. The more quickly you can get the water off, the less flooding there
will be. If appliances or any electrical thing is getting wet, turn off the electricity first, then the
water. After you get the water off, clean up the flood as quickly as you can to prevent damage to
your floors, walls, appliance, cabinets, or furniture.
If plumbing is not your thing, then call one. Hopefully, you only have one pipe that has burst,
although, there could be more than one. Inspect all your pipes before turning any water back on,
and that means underneath your home especially.
Remember, prevention is better than

Quality is a very important factor in restaurants because a visit in a restaurant is usually something

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1850
September 8,1850, the Compromise of 1850 was drafted in order to keep the continuous peace
throughout the union. HISTORY.COM writes, The compromise was the last major involvement in
national affairs of Senators Henry Clay of Kentucky, Daniel Webster of Massachusetts, and John
C. Calhoun of South Carolina, all of whom had had exceptional careers in the Senate. Calhoun
died the same year, and Clay and Webster two years later. The book American History by Brinkley
goes into the details for the compromise, this document would admit California in as a free state,
the formation of territorial governments in the rest of the lands acquired from Mexico, without
restrictions on slavery; the abolition of the slave trade, but not slavery itself, in the... Show more

HISTORYPLACE.COM writes, After the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed, pro slavery and
anti slavery supporters rushed in to settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held
there after the law went into effect. Pro slavery settlers carried the election but were charged
with fraud by anti slavery settlers, and the results were not accepted by them. The anti slavery
settlers held another election, however pro slavery settlers refused to vote. This resulted in the
establishment of two opposing legislatures within the Kansas territory. Violence soon erupted,
with the anti slavery forces led by John Brown. The territory earned the nickname bleeding
Kansas as the death toll rose. The book American History by Brinkley shows the populous just
how effective the Kansas Nebraska Act really was. This compromise put in place a new, second
territory (Kansas) because congress thought that Kansas was more likely to become a slave state;
as usual congress was wrong, Kansas had voted to become a free state and because of popular
sovereignty they were able to do this; however, they held the election again this time allowing
Missourians to vote as well, and they did in fact become a slave state. HISTORY.COM explains,
Stephen A. Douglas, wanting to ensure a northern transcontinental railroad route that would benefit
his Illinois constituents, introduced a bill to organize the territory of Nebraska in order to bring the
area under civil control. But southern senators objected; the region lay north of latitude 36°30′
and so under the terms of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 would become a free state. To gain
the southerners support, Douglas proposed creating two territories in the area Kansas and
Nebraska and repealing the Missouri Compromise line. The question of whether the territories
would be slave or free would be left to the settlers under

I Want To Be Miss America By Julia Alvarez
I Want to be Miss America
The miss america pageant has been around for 76 years and there has only 1 immigrant woman
to win the pageant. ВЁI Want to be Miss AmericaВЁ is about an immigrant girl and her family
and how she tries to fit in so that she can feel more like she belongs. Julia alvarez and her 3 other
sisters are learning about the USA and as a family they watch the Miss America pageant and that
inspires them and they look up the the girls and try to look like them. In ВЁI Want to be Miss

imagery, similes, and characterization.
Julia Alvarez uses similes to describe the theme one examples is when julia said ВЁoffered one

The Importance Of Endangered Species
Many species are becoming extinct due to environmental issues, pollution, and change in habitats.
When an animal becomes extinct, it means the last of their kind has died many of these beautiful
and ravishing animals that reside in the world may never be seen again. The endangered species
that are still living do not have much of a future if something is not done about it. Humans are not
the only ones on the planet and as the human population goes up another species has been wiped
out of existence humans can fix what they started. Endangered animals is a topic that is overlooked
and needs to be addressed it needs humans full attention because they are the ones that can truly
make a change.
Animals that are endangered will be categorized on a sort of chart to see how much of their
species still lives. Endangered animals acquire many levels of extinction: near threatened,
vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct in the wild ( nat geo ). The
requirements for an animal to be endangered and on the Red List is decided by the Conservation
of Nature where a huge portion of its population has been wiped out (Bove). The list consists of
animals like grizzly bears, bald eagles, and gray wolves. The IUCN predicts that body size and
geographic range size are important predictors of extinction risk. The endangered animals on the list
still have hope of getting off that list and repopulate their species they just need the help from
humans also.
There are many causes that

  • 2. Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory Of Family Murray Bowen developed a new theory that focuses on how the family s emotions and interactions as a unit can affect the individual and vice versa. (Marianne Schneider 2015) In this theory patterns are constructed in the family to ease the stress created in families. (Baege. M. 2005) The Family Systems theory proposes that to get a better look inside what s going on with the individual you must look at the family. (Marianne Schneider 2015) Outside influences and certain issues that have been passed down from multiple generations determine their levels of stress and anxiety. (Marianne Schneider 2015) In Bowen s theory there are 8 intertwining concepts. (Baege. M.2005) The first concept is Triangles which are a 3 person relationship system that ... (Baege, M. 2005) Family Systems Theory appeals to me because I have a large stepfamily and I feel this perspective does help to figure out how to deal with problems that come up with individuals while considering the whole family unit. I feel very strongly that family is important in developing a person s strengths and self worth. There are lots of issues that can come up in a stepfamily. Relationship triangles that the family systems theory talks about happened in a dysfunctional way in my family. I believe the only way to get a better insight into one s problems is to look at the family of origin and see the patterns and how everyone interacts and affects everyone. It is also important to know the level of differentiation that family members are at to help them have a sense of self outside of the family unit. In our family there has been a lot of tension because of family members not knowing what their role was in the new family unit. In my family it was very difficult to establish a parent role with a child that doesn t consider you as a parent. I have seen certain children act out when they feel that they are not receiving enough attention from the biological parent and then triangles result. In my experiences with my stepfamily I feel family systems theory is a very good way for me to use my personal strengths and experiences to help my clients to be self sufficient in dealing with their ... • 3. The Insane Man In Middle School It was like any ordinary Monday at our school, teenagers in the halls chatting, people eating during first lunch, and teachers instructing their fourth period classes. But everything suddenly changed when an unnatural looking figure approached the middle school. Slowly limping our direction, he seemed kind of pale, had ripped clothing, and was grunting something unintelligible. Mr. Pixton, an 8th grade science teacher, went to go see what the strange man was up to. When Mr. Pixton got to the mysterious man, the man charged and sank his teeth into his neck. In a panic most students started to run away and scream. While the teacher fell to the ground, the individual unexpectedly ran at another and bit them. As I realized what was happening, ... In this theory, Huntington claims that the clash is inevitable. There is a new world order we are facing that include major civilization fighting for their cultural existence. On the other hand, many scholars opposed Huntington s ideology about the clash of civilization some of them called him a great theorist using recycled conflicts as a method. In this paper, I will summarize Huntington ideology and I will show why I think Fukuyama was right. • 6. Pros And Cons Of Gun Control On A College Campus Gun control is a major topic in today s society and It is broken into many subcategories that all have different arguments and views. A few examples are The Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and more gun control leads to fewer suicides in the United States. The guncontrol category I am focusing on in this essay is, should teachers and students be able to carry firearmson a college campus. I chose this since I am currently attending college and this could have an effect directly on me or ASU. The idea of teachers and staff being able to carry firearms on a college campus has come up many times in the media recently due to the rise in mass shootings. Many states are now looking at this problem and voting on it. This topic is always heavily debated due to the many different sides and varying beliefs on gun control and safety. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has a heavy influence on the united states and who should be allowed guns and what legislation is passed. The gun control topic of firearms on a college campus has become politicized and is commonly drawn into political debates and has become a political tool for winning elections. Some states have already voted and taken action on this new idea and have allowed staff to carry guns on campuses and in cars parked and locked in secure parking lots. Another major idea that is constantly brought up with campus carry and firearms on campuses is student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Comparing Media Images Of Criminological Research Essay iii.Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its depictions of the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a staple on film, television, and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact, that it dates back all the way to the Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every group in history has had their mythologies and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call them superheroes. For example, Achilles only had one weakness (his heel) and was by the Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek gods.org). The same goes for heroes like Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though instead of being changed into a super soldier in a lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal suit in the desert, these heroes were part god which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super crime fighters have always existed, but when comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules was created to guide their content to be more appropriate than the Greek tales (Coville). The Comics Code was a list of regulations regarding the depiction of certain events in comic books maintained by the Comics Magazine Association of America (Nyberg). The code was very strict and eventually challenged by Stan Lee (one of the creators of Marvel) through a story arc in the Spiderman Comics that dealt with drug abuse. ... This is the rarest form of color blindness. This is when no colors can be seen at all. The color receptors are almost completely gone in this form, however, the white and black receptors remain intact. However, this condition is often misdiagnosed without proper testing. There are three basic types of color blindness: deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia. Deuteranopia is a condition in which people have trouble dealing with green. These people are one of the largest groups of color blind people. Very often, these people also have a problem with red. These people can often distinguish red or green when with other colors, but when it is by itself, it is very difficult. Many people will just see it as white. Protanopia are those seem to need an abnormal amount of red or have no sense of red color vision. Often, people will see bold red as black or nonexistent. Some people may see red orange as brown and yellow green as brown. In other words, neither red or green can often be distinguished for sure. Tritanopia are those who have trouble distinguishing blue and yellow. This disorder is much less common than the red green colorblindness, and is usually acquired, not received through heredity. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the dawn of Chinese economic reform under Deng Xiaoping in 1978 promised to produce somewhat parallel long term results for two of the world s largest economies. Although China and Russia mirrored each other in the nature of the transitions they were undertaking at the time, their trajectories for future economic and political change are now diverging. Despite the fact that both China and post soviet Russiawould ultimately tip the scale away from central economic planning toward market based systems and global integration, the approaches and circumstances surrounding these economic shifts are completely different. The USSR had experienced two decades of stability under Brezhnev, but this era was coupled with rising corruption and weighty foreign policy issues like the US arms race and the invasion of Afghanistan. Contrasting economic preconditions of the movement toward market based models also influenced patterns of change and development in Russia and China at the end of the 20th century. For example, by the close of the 1980 s, Russia stood as a seasoned industrial power with a sizeable, well educated, urban labor force. Militarily, it was on par with the United States and had developed a strong presence in science and technology development. Contrastingly, when China began its own transition almost a decade earlier, at the end of the 1970 s its economy was still predominantly rooted in agriculture. 80% of the nation s population (as compared with 15% for Russia) consisted of uneducated agrarian peasantry, and the country had little stake in industry or scientific innovation. In the wake of the soviet state s collapse, Russia faced a dropping population and a deficit of available labor, while China s population was considered very large relative to its productivity. Though these demographic factors allowed for cheaper, more readily available labor in China, Russia vastly outstripped China in terms of natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Medical Studies Of Diabetes Diabetes Due to the need for close monitoring of blood glucose and insulin level in the body, there have been various studies done regarding the various insulin regimens that are available today. Before we get into the details of the studies conducted, it is only relevant to give an overview of the problem at hand. Type I Diabetes or as it also known juvenile onset diabetes is a disorder that is normally diagnosed in young adults or children. This form of diabetes results from the destruction of the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. With auto immune destruction being the most common cause, type I diabetes is a lifelong disease. Insulin is the basic treatment for Diabetes in about 30% of the diabetic patients in the United States. (Centers for Disease control, 2008)It should be noted that insulin is present in three different forms and a person needs to take the regimen that is most suitable for them. As mentioned earlier, too much insulin given at a time can cause a person to go in hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is way more fatal than increased glucose levels. The 30 year old female in our case was taking the Insulin Basal bolus that consisted of novo rapid and glargine. There has been much concern over the efficacy of a basal regimen to a pre mixed insulin form. A study conducted by Mathieu et. al (2013) was done to see how the change in regimen switch is tolerated. This change is the opposite of what we are proposing for the 30 year old female. In the Atlantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The human body, a biological organization of physiological cascades, is surprisingly fragile but yet highly adaptable to withstand the varying challenges encountered in the lifetime of an individual. It is multiple deployments of singular compensatory mechanisms in response to abnormal changes that provides this infinite flexibility. • 13. Candide, By Voltaire And Optimism Candide or Optimism is one of the works of Voltaire. This novella mainly satirizes philosophical optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his tutor Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candidelooks to Dr. Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens Candide looks to Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that there is no effect without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country seat was the most beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire, 20). This idea was supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence came from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. • 17. Identifying And Analyzing Global Integrated Marketing... Name: Lecturer: Course: Date: Identifying and analyzing global integrated marketing campaigns Abstract Integrated marketing is a strategy regarding the application of consistent brand messaging across myriad marketing channels. It came about after businesses realized that they needed to offer their customers more than the regular method of advertising. Integrated communication is mainly focused on the consumer rather than the needs of an organization. It has improved the performance of many businesses in various markets and their brands. This paper seeks to identify the global integrated marketing campaigns and analyze them with the use of case studies in the television and print media. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Community (AEC) was established as an effective cooperative strategy for gaining market advantages through regional market integration. Thailand aims to capitalize on trade agreements by networking and entering partnership with neighboring countries. Currently, Thailand s cross border trade in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) plays a crucial role in globalization, because it facilitates rapid and convenient trade and investment. However, GMS countries hold differing perspectives on the management of geographic and economic potentials. This supposition has been considered a key factor in GMS economies, specifically because geographic proximity leads to similarities in ethnicities, religions and culture. The high annual revenues Thailand receives through trade with neighboring GMS countries is an indicator of considerable increases in future trade. Thus, to determine the directionality of competitiveness among GMS markets, Thailand is a suitable basis for assessing the benefits and differences among GMS countries, as well as how these aspects drive the GMS economies. This study was conducted to (a) determine which market is the most dynamic for Thai exports, (b) measure the intensity of trade between Thailand and its regional trading partners and (c) test whether the modified Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index, which was developed based on the gravity trade model, is applicable for measuring Thailand s competitiveness resulting from its border trade policy. The RCA index is typically applied based on three conceptual points. First, the trade balance index (TBI) can be used to indicate whether GMS countries are net exporters or importers. Second, the trade balance is typically decomposed by product and country (i.e., bilateral trade balance). Relevance refers to the degree of concentration of trade imbalances ... • 24. Greed Is Good By Neel Burton Introduction Throughout society, several individuals ponder on the notion: How does greed lead to one s demise? However, before discussing the consequences of greed, one must consider its motives. Greed is developed when an individual faces adversity early on in life or becomes envious of others because it motivates them to search for an alternative that fills the void of deprivation. To guarantee that their desire is fulfilled, their greed will lead them to perform impulsive and irrational actions, resulting in their demise. Motives for Greed The origins of greed stem from encountering hardships at a young age and becoming excessively jealous of others. Within an article titled: Is Greed Good, Neel Burton argues that greed often arises from early negative experiences such as parental inconsistency, neglect, or abuse. In later life, feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, often combined with low self esteem, lead the person to fixate on a particular substitute for what she once needed but could not find (Burton). When an individual is prematurely exposed to adversity, they are withheld from fulfilling their desires or needs because their oppression prevents them from doing so. As a result, they dwell obsessively upon an alternative for what he or she is deprived of, leading to their greediness because they will go to great lengths to ensure that their desires are achieved. The novel s incorporation of Romanticism and the American Renaissance recognizes it as an exceptionally renowned work of American literature. To create this epic tale, Melville uses the encounters that the Pequod has with other whaling ships, known as gams, combined with symbols and omens. Melville, who uses many chapters in the novel to provide information about whaling, designates the entirety of chapter 53, The Gam , to explain gams: a social meeting of two (or more) Whale ships, generally on a cruising ground; when, after exchanging hails, they exchange visits by boats crews: the two captains remaining, for the time, on ... The Goney s captain is unable to reply to Ahab, but Ahab does not really care about this, as he chooses rather to take advantage of his windward position (258). Although the two ships do not have a proper gam, Melville s story of the gam clearly exploits Ahab s monomania. He has no interest for the Goney because they have nothing practical to offer him with regards to his search for Moby Dick. However, as the two ships pass one another, fish that were swimming along the Pequod leave and swim to the Goney: shoals of small harmless fish, that for some days before had been placidly swimming by our side, darted away with what seemed shuddering fins, and ranged themselves fore and aft with the stranger s flanks (258). Health I defined health as a physical, social, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing of a person which is vastly shaped by their environment. This definition falls under totality paradigm. This is so because, according to totality paradigm, health is defined according to societal norms. Society sets a benchmark for what health is. Hence, health can be measured as compared to the societal norm. If the person deviates from the societal norm then the person is considered unhealthy. Similarly, I mention in my definition that health is something that is maintained by the stability of different aspects of the person. The benchmark of stability is usually set by society. My definition does not fall into simultaneity paradigm because unlike my definition, simultaneity paradigm states that health is not defined by the benchmark of society rather, health is defined only by a person, and only the person knows what health means to them. Environment According to me, environment denotes a person s surrounding including their family, community, culture, beliefs, and values. Environment shapes the person s health and wellbeing as well as their own view towards the definition of being healthy. It influences the way in which the person functions. Similarly, I believe that the environment of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High numbers of TAMs in human tumors usually correlate with reduced patient survival (Bingle et al., 2002; Zhang et al., 2012), and studies in mice have shown that TAMs promote important steps in tumor progression including tumor angiogenesis, cancer cell invasion, metastasis, and the suppression of adaptive anti tumor immunity (Noy and Pollard, 2014). TAMs also mediate or limit the efficacy of various forms of anti cancer therapies (De Palma and Lewis, 2013). As discussed in later sections, the markers expressed by PV macrophages vary between primary and metastatic tumors. However, a unifying feature is their proximity to blood vessels (sometimes making direct contact with endothelial cells or pericytes), or their preference for highly vascularized tumor areas. This contrasts with the majority of TAMs found elsewhere in tumors (Lewis and Pollard, 2006). • 36. Flaw Wang Analysis In the story, Flaw, Wang delivers a very light hearted text to read. But, in this text Wang connects a lot of the story together with details of the weather that help us connect the events. Wang uses the weather to describe how the narrator feels about the problems, while also displaying the narrators growth throughout the story. For example, the narrator opens up each problem or event that occurs with the description of that moments weatherand season. Although the events occur on separate days in different seasons the problems occur always on a sunny, hot day. It seems like the hotter the weather is the bigger the problem may be and the more emotional and grown the narrator will become. Wang starts off the pattern by incorporating in details of the weather, ...night passed and day broke. This goes on with the narrator going off to the roof where the sky above was a soft quiet blue (27), thinking about the impact the women created on him, his family, and community. The soft quiet blue here is used to describe his emotions as his anguish dematerializes and his emotions clear up to reveal the sorrow he now feels towards the woman. • 37. Hacking Is Generally By A Negative Connotation Hacking is generally accompanied by a negative connotation. In this article, however, the reader is subjected to a new definition of hacking, and it is extremely progressive and interesting. In their abstract, authors Gregory Donovan and Cindi Katz state we focus on these issues through the lens of technological interactions known as hacking, wherein people playfully engage computer technologies for the intrinsic pleasure of seeing what they can do (197). It is clear from this sentence that these authors have a unique outlook on hacking, and as the reader gets farther into the article he or she begins to derive the ultimate goal of the article: to depict hacking not as a negative thing, but rather one of a beneficial, mind developing learning tool for children to better understand computers and technology that they will be using for their whole lives. The main question which the authors of this article seem to be addressing is how can computer programming, curious exploration (Donovan and Katz 198) of the Internet, avoiding Internet filters or security methods, et cetera, be seen as positive, developmental and acceptable actions for youth who are constantly subjected to technology? Because young people are generally much more active within their technological environments, Donovan and Katz challenge the lack of freedom and the abundance of surveillance that exists on the Internet, especially after September 11, 2001 (199). Mrs Dalloway Analysis of Mrs. Dalloway В– Virginia Woolf Mrs. Dalloway, published in 1925, is a romantic drama with deep psychological approaching in to the world of urban English society in the summer of 1923, five years after the end of World War I. The book begins in the morning with the arrangements for a party Clarissa Dalloway will give and it ends late in the evening when the guests are all leaving. There are many flashbacks to tell us the past of each character, but it does not leave the range of those few hours. It presents several stream of consciousness devices: indirect interior monologue, time and space montage, flashbacks and psychological free association based mainly on memory, with the support of imagination and the senses (mainly... Septimus, by contrast, is not always able to distinguish between his personal response and the external reality in his madness, he feels that if the birds sing they must be speaking to him; if the aero plane writes in the sky it must be signaling to him. Even though the two never meet, these two correspond in that they attempt to maintain possession of themselves, of their souls. Almost all the action occurs in the thoughts of characters, and, the reader must piece together the story from random pieces of information that Woolf provides. The point of view changes from one character to the other so naturally that the reader only realizes it much later. Woolf s characters reveal their depths gradually and slowly; fragments of thought and memory emerge as they respond to and interact with their environment and other characters , and from these fragments we piece together each character s past. While most conventional 3rd person narratives stick close to one character, this narrative gets close to many. The characters in this type of narrative, especially Mrs. Dalloway are round, this is, are complex, they have been through a process of transformation throughout the novel being able to in a convincing way surprise us, as they are built based on various ideas and qualities leaving apart the idea of the character mind. ... The story told in Aloe Blacc s music video Love Is The Answer centers on two teenage brothers who become separated after their parents divorce. The second son s quality of life is not the same as his brother s. His mother is rarely seen in the music video. She only makes one appearance with her son. Her short appearance shows her yelling at him as he lies on the couch, holding a football. This son attends a school with damaged lockers and enters a classroom that appears to be a rundown portable building. Most of the students have rebellious looks on their faces and show no interest in their education. He spends his free time gambling and drinking with rebellious people. The contrast in the lifestyles of the two brothers suggests that the factors of behavior vary in each situation. Although social behavior is learned by youth through a variety of sources, including peers, school, the family and the neighborhood, it is the family that is the single most important influence on youth socialization (Donegan 1996). This is first example of this when it mentions that their only building tool was mudbrick due to their lack of resources(document 1). They were able to brilliantly adapt to their surroundings and were able to invent things like the arch and the dome out of hardened mud. Mud brick was also used to create the ziggurat(document 7). • 41. Symbolism In Lord Of The Glies In William Golding s Lord... In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the conch to enforce that without proper leadership, people become more prone to be disorganized and power hungry. The conch initially serves as a tool for the prosperity of the boys. Yet, over time, the conch loses it s value, leading to the boys living in a disorganized society and causing some to strive for power. The effectiveness of the conch continues on the same downward spiral and eventually becomes obsolete, as the boys fight for the right to rule each other. When the boys reach the island, the conch is viewed as a symbol of power and acts as a tool to organize the boys. When the conch is first discovered by Ralph and Piggy on the beach, Piggy identifies the strange looking object in the sand and exclaims A conch he called it. On someone s back wall. A conch he called it. He used to blow it and then his mum would come. It s ever so valuable (18). Upon the conch s discovery, the boys are clearly enthralled with it, displaying their intentions to use the conch to call attention and create order. At this early stage of the story, some of the boys are concerned with using tools that symbolize power and creating a society that has a strong structure. It was understood between the boys that the conch was a tool to allow for cooperation and understanding. Moments later, Piggy states that the boys can use this to call the others. The Pros And Cons Of Libertarian Paternalism I.Libertarian paternalism is a choice infrastructure that public or private institutions can nudge choosers to make better choices whereas people s freedom of choices is preserved (Thaler and Sunstein, 2003). Due to the increasing recognition of retirement saving crisis where people save much less than is desirable, booming aging population and increasing uncertainty over the effectiveness and impacts of traditional incentives such as tax relief, automatic enrolment (AE) is called as a potential solution in the domain of retirement saving. This essay argues against the current AE scheme in the UK National Employment Savings Trust and argues that while theoretically AE can be a sensible answer to the problem of retirement saving it has a problematic choice infrastructure which might lead to sub optimal outcomes and is facing uncertain costs. The reminder of this essay proceeds as follows. Section II presents how nudge works in AE. Section III focuses on the limitations of the AE s default options and presents the reasons why this scheme might lead to sub optimal outcomes. Section IV concludes by suggesting possible solutions. II.First, people suffer from inertia, procrastination and status quo basis when they are making decisions. Overwhelmed by numerous saving options which require strong mathematic... HISTORYPLACE.COM writes, After the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed, pro slavery and anti slavery supporters rushed in to settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held there after the law went into effect. Pro slavery settlers carried the election but were charged with fraud by anti slavery settlers, and the results were not accepted by them. The anti slavery settlers held another election, however pro slavery settlers refused to vote. This resulted in the establishment of two opposing legislatures within the Kansas territory. Violence soon erupted, with the anti slavery forces led by John Brown. The territory earned the nickname bleeding Kansas as the death toll rose. The book American History by Brinkley shows the populous just how effective the Kansas Nebraska Act really was. This compromise put in place a new, second territory (Kansas) because congress thought that Kansas was more likely to become a slave state; as usual congress was wrong, Kansas had voted to become a free state and because of popular sovereignty they were able to do this; however, they held the election again this time allowing Missourians to vote as well, and they did in fact become a slave state. HISTORY.COM explains, Stephen A. Douglas, wanting to ensure a northern transcontinental railroad route that would benefit his Illinois constituents, introduced a bill to organize the territory of Nebraska in order to bring the area under civil control. But southern senators objected; the region lay north of latitude 36В°30′ and so under the terms of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 would become a free state. To gain the southerners support, Douglas proposed creating two territories in the area Kansas and Nebraska and repealing the Missouri Compromise line.
