Jane Goodall
Goodall vs. American Medical Association Over the centuries, the evolution from ape to man and its
surroundings has changed. Cavemen did everything in their power to survive. Survival of the fittest
was said by Charles Darwin. Humans today are interested in how to fix world problems. Such as,
diseases that don t currently have vaccines or cures. To search for answers, experts were led to
animals. Their fascination towards animals has heightened over the course of millennium years. That
curiosity eventually led to animal testing. Many people have different opinions when it comes to using
animals for scientific research. The real question is, should animals be tested at all? Jane Goodall, an
animal activist who has dedicated her whole life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Jane Goodall uses emotional appeals most of the time throughout the essay. Including facts and
evidence will make an essay more persuasive than using emotional responses. Furthermore, without
the use of animals, we wouldn t have found out how to do heart surgeries or kidney transplants.
However, there is a price to pay, there always is. Although, the outcome of using animals for testing is
for the greater good. Using animals to help the survival of the new generations has come a long way.
Scientists rely heavily on animals to conduct experiments to figure out if certain surgeries and drugs
work. In conclusion, animal testing is important because, without it, humans wouldn t be able to save
lives today. Hopefully, in the future, we find a cure for AIDS and that would help even more people all
around the world. Thanks to the animals who were tested on for necessary reasons and the scientists
fearlessness to test on animals. Americans are living longer, healthier lives and we owe much of that
success to biomedical research Dr. Robert Palazoo, President of the Federation of American Societies

medical breakthrough of the last century. It has saved hundreds of millions of lives worldwide Former

Analysis Of My Pods And Broomsticks In The Simpsons
My Pods and Broomsticks a very controversial episode of The Simpsons is full of satire, concentrating
in the main theme of stereotypes and the ignorance of consumers in this day and age. These are
represented through the Simpsons, elements, or flaws of modern society are cleverly displayed using
many devices such as humour, puns, irony and sarcasm. When analyse an episode of the Simpson it
gets you thinking, does the Simpson serve a greater propose than to just entertain?
In the start of the show, the Simpsons enter into the new store that opened up at their mall, Mapple .

He tells her he can t help her and says I know our posters say Think Differently but our real slogan is

they mean well, when really they just want our cash. Along with the satire of the ignorance of
consumers these episode also discusses many stereotypes of modern day society. In this episode Bart
meets a new kid, Bashir whose family recently moved to the United States from Jordan. The Simpsons
have Bashir and his family over for dinner and Homer becomes suspicious of them because they are
Muslim. Throughout the episode Homer tries, to prove that Bashir s parents are terrorists. This
situation represents the stereotypes that are created by society and some believe that all Muslim are
dangerous terrorist. Sarcasm is shown in many instances, one that stuck out was when Homer makes
fun of the Muslim religion and culture. Instead of saying Praise Allah he says Praise be to Oliver and
instead of saying the Kuraan, he says the Corona Stereotypes are shown when Homer automatically
assumes that Bashir s parents are terrorists since they are Muslim. Another example is when one of
Homer s friend Leny tells him He s Muslim, so he must be up to something.
Throughout this episode, these two aspects of modern day society are

Communication Is Essential For The Successful Execution Of...
The Communication Process is defined as the transmission of information, and the exchange of
meaning, between at least two people (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). Throughout the business world, it
can be argued that comprehensible communication is imperative to the successful execution of
operations. Organizational effectiveness is extremely significant to any accountancy firm
predominantly due to how interlinked a company s accounts are which in turn causes employees and
managers to rely on the work of colleagues above and below them. Therefore clear communication is
essential to ensuring efficiency and a high quality of work. Through the essay we shall comment on
key barriers to communication, ranging from Differences in Power to Cultural and Language
differences , and construct strategic solutions which we believe would positively influence the
accountancy firm.
Barrier to Communication: Power Difference
Problem 1: Unapproachable superiors
Evidence suggests that employee communication has become significantly more important due to a
rise in alternative information notably on the Internet and the increase in employee expectations
(Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). However, throughout the business world, it can be argued that a
difference in power can have a detrimental effect on communication for both those who are in and
those who are not in power. This is notable for firms in industries such as accountancy, where a
hierarchical system is in place; there is a

Elvis Presley Segregation
The King of Rock and Roll also known as Elvis Presley was famous and adored during the 1950 s by
the young adults all over the United States. Although the older crowd found his music and dance
moves very inappropriate, the teenagers adored and grew fond of his music which made this
Mississippi star controversial. In the very beginning before Elvis, the music that was heard around the
world was a lot of swing and jazz music that the Greats played. By Greats I mean well known artists
like Rosemary Clooney, Artie Shaw, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and so many others. While this music
was amazing in the 1940 s, a young man named Elvis Presley thought that the world should be
showed a new type of music to adore and love. Presley s career actually started when he became a
local star around Memphis, Tennessee. He recorded a couple of songs at a local recording studio and

Back then people had to go through this time period with three choices; to either support it, ignore it,
or be apart of it. I believe that Elvis created his music to try and help get rid of racial barriers by
music, and the critics at the time hated the thought of a white man singing black music . By doing this
it was shown that critics heavily disliked him and actually compared his concerts with screaming girls
and adoring teens, to Hitler mass meetings which screams insanity. There were even magazines that
were not on team Elvis Presley and they strongly showed it. For example a magazine called Look
stated in its 1956 issue, but Presley is mostly nightmare. On stage his gyrations . . . are vulgar . . . He
has also dragged big beat music to new lows in taste . . ., with this in mind people in the older crowd

Baroque and Classical Wordpainting Techniques
Renaissance and Baroque composers were faced with the task of creating complex pieces that express
both human emotion and ideas. While this is primarily one of the main purposes of all forms of music
itself, including genres today, in the 15th through 18th centuries, this was largely done through the
musical composition of a piece rather than the lyrics. Composers utilized several different techniques
in order to portray to the listener the purpose and meaning of the piece. Renaissance composers were
focused on furthering the texts in music, fully developing the lyrics Therefore, the use of word
painting, the musical representation of a literal word, phrase, or poetic image, is clearly seen in many
pieces. Baroque music, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the piece Tu Se Morta this idea can be heard from the very first notes. After being told of Eurydice
s death, Orpheus declares his emotions in Tu Se Morta. The piece begins an organ and a bass lute, the
lute representing Orpheus harp, which speak to the song s dark tones. The singer s vocal lines are also
fairly free, they have no set beat, meter, or phrase pattern. This, therefore, creates the sense of a
monologue or soliloquy, an actor s expression of inner emotion. Monteverdi, like other Baroque
composers, frequently used word painting. The opening words, You are dead, repeated and
culminating in You have left me forevermore, never to return, and I remain, are song in a stretched
out, long and slow fashion, but as the verse continues, intensity and volume is increased to result in
basically an outburst by the words, ed io rimango, or and I remain. The free beat and meter of the
vocals allows for the singer to illustrate the emotion of the text through the speed in which the words
are sung and the intensity of each word. More traditional word painting is used in the sense that there
is a low tone on abissi or abysses in order to depict the deepness and descending nature of the
underworld. Another strategic low note is placed on morte to symbolize death and depression. Very
high tones are used on the words stelle and sole

Genghis Khan And The Mongol Empire Essay
Genghis Khan, one of the most tyrannical leaders know to man, is often associated with destruction,
carnage, ruin, and bloodshed. While these adjectives are true, he is also responsible for great economic
gains and massive expansion for the Khan empire. The Mongol Dynasty began in the thirteenth
century as a group of small nomadic tribes in Central Asia. Genghis was able to unite the small tribes
and begin to conquer Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. During his time of leadership he
quickly conquered land, socially reformed, and made great economic gains for the Mongol empire.
Khan was able to start a postal system, acquired new trade routes, encouraged religious freedom, and
led many successful military campaigns. While also being a leader responsible for death and
bloodshed, his tactics were new and rather progressive. Khan was hundreds of years ahead of his time
when you look at his success with military tactics, trade, politics, and social reform. The main focus of
this paper is to reveal the ways Khan went about successfully ruling and expanding the Mongol
Dynasty. To better understand Genghis Khan one can look into his past to explain his reasoning and
methods. Genghis Khan, born under the name Temüjin, was born in approximately 1162 in present
day Northern Mongolia. He grew up as a nomad with a mother, father, and many brothers and sisters.
From a very early age, he faced adversity and numerous hardships in many different forms. At the age
of nine, he was

Abortion Is A Right Of Privacy
It is obvious that abortion is a topic that includes many grey areas. Whether an abortion is a right
guaranteed to the mother, or if it is considered taking away the rights the of the unborn baby is one of
these grey areas. Pro choice supporters agree with the Roe v. Wade supreme court decision because of
the way it applies abortion to the constitution. According to the Internet site Pro Con, the court case
presented the idea that abortion fits under the right of privacy (1). By this, the court system is saying
that each woman should be granted the ability to do what she wishes with her body. Although this
right was not directly created for abortion, there are differing opinions as to whether or not an abortion
could fit into one s right of privacy. The term right of privacy is extremely broad, but refers to the
privacy granted to an individual from the government. However, pro life supporters do not think this
should be applied to an abortion, especially because another human being s life is at stake. They
believe that the fetus should also be granted rights, as if they were a living human outside in the real
world. Which is why many pro life advocates make the argument that an abortion is killing a human
being who cannot defend themselves. Due to this belief, there are many states who have passed fetal
homicide laws (1). These were created to respect the rights of the child. As a woman who has become
a mother, it is one s responsibility to protect the human growing inside the womb; killing this growing
human being, who is yet unable to defend themselves, has no other definition than murder. A common
belief among pro choice supporters is that abortion cannot be murder because life does not begin until
birth. However, pro life believers say life begins at conception. Behind this belief stands the idea that
an abortion is taking away the life and rights of an living individual. Since the day abortion became a
vast issue, there has always been a lurking argument between the pro life and pro choice supporters as
to when life exactly begins. This argument came about because pro choice supporters used the
statement that life does not begin until birth to oppose the pro life opinion that

Negative Effects Of Corporal Punishment
There have been countless studies done on whether corporal punishment actually works, or if it, in
fact, is instead causing long term adverse effects. Corporal punishment today is seen less and less with
this new generations parents. Corporal punishment was mainly seen in parenting before the 2000s.
Cloud (2009) states that sociologist, Murray Straus, found that in a 1968 survey that had taken place,
94% of Americans agreed that corporal punishment was seen as an acceptable form of discipline. This
percentage was then drastically dropped when Americans were re surveyed, and 72% of those people
agreed that spanking was deemed reasonable (Cloud, 2009).

Patrick Lenta (2012) speaks on the injustice that children experience when they are spanked. Lenta
(2012) expresses how these children have rights, just as adults, to not be mistreated unjustly, and how
corporal punishment violates these basic rights. He then discusses how corporal punishment has been
found to have serious psychological harm to the child, such as fear, or mental issues. This, in turn,
could cause the child to have a harder time focusing on his or her schoolwork due to all the fear, and
psychological issues they are trying to deal with as well as trying to keep up their good grades. Since
the child might have a hard time focusing on school work, this could cause them to start to fail
academically, which is an unwanted behavior to most parents, causing them to get spanked, and this
vicious cycle repeats. It has been found, that a type of psychological effect that has been found in
those children who have experienced corporal punishment as a child has lead to have post traumatic
stress disorder, in the same way, abused children have had (Nyarko, 2017). Nyarko (2017) argues that
there has been a correlation between low self esteem and corporal punishment, and how there is a
correlation between self esteem and academic performance. In turn, this could cause the children who
have experienced corporal

The Omnivore’s Dilemma
9/15/11 A Well Argued and Impractical Idea In the book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael
Pollan, Pollan introduces some very interesting ideas and positions relating to the how and what we
eat. Pollan poses the questions: Is America eating the right kind of food? Is what we are eating
healthy? And, where is our food coming from, how is it treated, and what is in the food we eat?
Throughout the book Pollan places his own argument alongside the answers to these questions. He
moves the reader to reflect on the evidence presented about eating organic foods rather than processed
foods. Pollan also puts forth a compelling, and strong argument that contains ideas, like food is of

Pollan accompanied Salatin on Polyface Farm s weekly delivery runs and was able to talk to some of
the cooks and chefs that Polyface supplies. On the delivery run, Pollan noticed, the chefs had
uniformly high praise for the quality of Polyface produce (251). When asked about the difference in
the eggs between Polyface and the supermarket, one chef replied, The difference is night and day the

product that is superior to that of the local supermarket. Salatin s brother illustrates the quality of his

Social Exclusion vs. Poverty Essay
There are many factors that contribute towards social exclusion in the United Kingdom. Not all of
these factors are as straightforward as each other. By considering these causes, I will be able to explain
why poverty is not the same as social exclusion.
It states in the Introduction of Labour s next steps: tackling social exclusion , that social exclusion is
about more than poverty and unemployment, it is also about being cut off and neglected by the rest of
society.
The Social Exclusion Unit states that the definition of social exclusion is a shorthand term for what
can happen when people or areas suffer from a combination of linked problems. They also state that

Many would argue that there is no Absolute Poverty in Britain and that it only exists in third world
countries. Many homeless people in Britain would disagree, as they live in cardboard box
communities, and are fed from soup kitchens, which is perhaps as absolute as you could get.
A definition of Absolute poverty would be:
a condition characterised by severe deprivation of basic human needs,
including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter,
education and information. It depends not only on income but also on
access to services.
(Tackling Social Exclusion John Pierson)
A definition of Relative poverty would be:
the poor shall be taken to mean persons, families and groups of persons
whose resources (material, cultural and social) are so limited as to
exclude them from the minimum acceptable way of life of the Member
State in which they live.
(Tackling Social Exclusion John Pierson)

Continental Europe has seen a major rise in unemployment over the past two decades without this
leading to mass poverty. The European welfare state has been remarkably successful in providing

Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous
injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after
spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this
information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a
immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industry in the city of
Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the
story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of
human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the
wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart,
and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people
to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary
condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his
book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It
led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day
FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through
the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the
meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the
raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is
raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she
says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our
places. We could never get anything to do here again. He he meant it he would have ruined us
(Sinclair 109) Now this example would be good to describe the corruption both in the meat packing
factories, and in the government. While it

evident composure sets him apart from the rest of the townspeople. His choice in keeping his part in
committing his sin, further isolates him in guilt and self ridicule. Dimmesdale even tells Hester that
there is no hope for them and that he will die and enter eternity on his own, without her. From the
intense consciousness of being the object of severe and universal observation, the wearer of the scarlet
letter was at length relieved, by discerning on the outskirts of the crowd a figure which irresistibly
took possession of her thoughts, (Hawthorne, 56). This quote describes how Chillingworth comes into
town alone on the outskirts of town. His love for knowledge also contributes to his isolation from
society, to the point when he does not realize the future of asking Hester to marry him. He has one
goal when he arrives, and it is revenge. The isolation of Dimmesdale and Chillingworth bring them
together in a way, where Chillingworth acts as Dimmesdale s doctor. Even though they eventually
move in with each other, they do not open up to each other. They only

Respiratory Pathophysiology
e purpose of the respiratory system is to bring the air we breathe into close contact with the blood in
order for the absorption of oxygen and expulsion of carbon dioxide. The respiratory system consists of
a pair lungs which are connected to the mouth via the trachea and bronchi. The ribs and intercostal
muscles are part of the respiratory system. This is because they not only protect the lungs, trachea and
bronchi but also move and assist with breathing.
The trachea, otherwise known as the windpipe filters the air that is inhaled. It branches into the
bronchi, which are two tubes that carry air into each lung. The bronchi are lined with cilia, tiny hairs
which move back and forth which carry mucus up and out as a defence mechanism against pathogens.

Air flows due to the pressure differences between the atmosphere and the gases inside the lungs.
Pulmonary ventilation is otherwise known as breathing, and as my athlete performs he does breathe,
making this process quite important both during exercise and during relaxation.
Shifts in the oxygen dissociation curve is caused by the changes in the levels of carbon dioxide in
blood. These shifts enhance the release of oxygen in tissue and the uptake of oxygen in the lungs
dependant on the conditions its under. Oxygen is carried in both the haemoglobin in the red blood
cells and the plasma in the blood. Each haemoglobin molecule has a limited capacity for holding
oxygen molecules. As the blood plasma pH elevates past 7.6 causes the saturation curve to shift 15%
to the left of the normal. As the blood plasma decreases and becomes more acidic, hydrogen ions
increasingly bind to haemoglobin amino acids which decreases the degree in which the oxygen may
combine with the haemoglobin. This is called the Bohr effect. This is a reversible situation as the
plasma pH may

Controversy of Privacy and the Internet
Privacy is dead get over it , according to Steve Rambam, a privacy investigator who specializes in
Internet privacy cases, this is how he considers privacy to be in today s society. He is just another
entity living in the midst of a high technology society to whom privacy seems to be dead when
reaching the Internet. With all the traffic on the Internet, the risk of private information falling into the
wrong hands is excessive, and with all the advances in computer technology the rate of privacy loss is
increasing as well. With the right knowledge and experience in technology anything on the Internet
can be access by anyone causing an individual s privacy to be exposed and violated..
Internet privacy, a subset to computer privacy, involves the mandate of personal privacy concerning
the storing, repurposing, provision to third parties, and displaying of information relating to oneself
via Internet. The controversy of privacy concern has being articulated form the beginnings of large
scale computer sharing. According to Maureen Dorney in her article, Privacy and the Internet she
states that in 1993 there were already 83% of Americans that were concerned with threats to personal
privacy. In fact, this was not the only year in which data was collected. She adds that in 1970 there
were an increasing number of populations being threat of privacy violations. Since then, the
controversy prompted several members of congress to call for increased privacy protection for data

Visual Analysis Of The Nongfu Spring Water Bottle
1. Visual Analysis
The Nongfu Spring Water bottle is a cylindrical object standing just under the length of a forearm. The
bottle itself is made out of plastic and is vertically symmetric, but not horizontally, since the upper
most part has a funnel shape to accommodate the cap.The bottle is wrapped around by a plastic sheet
that is centered slightly upwards and covers about two thirds of the cylindrical surface.
The design and composition of plastic wrapping is unique. It contains different elements positioned in
harmony with one another, but none in direct interaction. The most prominent drawing on the bottle is
a side profile of a lynx in a yellow and blue shirt, inside a blue, oxford boot style ice skate, with its red
scarf blowing to the left side, as if to show the idea of a wind. On the top left corner, a fox appears to
be sitting on sled, and on the bottom right corner, a mouse seems to be playing a violin. Additionally,
there are some drawing of leafless winter trees, and a faint drawing of some mountains in the far back.
The general theme that seems to be connecting these elements is nature and winter, but with some
clear human world references, like the clothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This bottle juxtaposes elements of nature, like trees, animals, winter and mountains, with human
elements like clothing and instruments. The choice, however, to portray animals as being the ones
taking up human customs, and not the other way around, is intriguing. While it makes for a visually
pleasing image, the design highlights the expectation of animals and nature to adapt, and to some
extent adopt, human behaviours and beliefs. If the goal of the design is to sell the water bottle, it
makes sense to associate it with nature, since that is where fresh and cold water is found. But whether
humanizing nature is mere marketing strategy or a genuine attempt to remind us of where our

How Is Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Parody, Pastiche and Their Contribution to Configuring the Theme of Identity in Tom Stoppard s play
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is written by Tom Stoppard. It is a parody for the
Shakespearean play, Hamlet. The play starts with the two major characters, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern flipping a coin. Rosencrantz always won the game and Guildenstern was trying to
understand the laws of mathematics. Even from the beginning of the play we are told that Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern are called Ros and Guil. This fact meant that they are pop culture representants and
it is a reduction of the Shakespearean play. From the title it can be seen the fact that they were dead
from the beginning (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). They also ... Show more content on

It satirized the Elizabethan play through characters and how they act and even through the fact that
now the play centers on Ros and Guil. When the other Shakespearean characters are introduced, the do
not appear like in Hamlet , but they are puppets, without life, or personality. They did not have much
significance in the play. Now they are minor characters which used the two main characters for their
own purpose. Gertrude wanted to understand what happened to her son and Claudius also used them
to kill Hamlet. Ros and Guil were their servants because they responded to the call of Claudius and
Gertrude. Hamlet was also a minor character here. Like in Shakespeare s play he followed his own
interest, but here Ros and Guil were sent to understand his plans. The parody here came from the fact
that the most major characters from Shakespeare s play are now minor and the minor characters are
major. The tragic effect from Hamlet is now given to clowns, Ros and Guil, which are stupid
characters; they do not know who they are. It is an exaggeration of the human condition and this
makes a play a tragicomedy. Like Hamlet tried to understand the meaning of life and death in the
original play, now Ros and Guil tried to do

A social system is a special order of systems... composed of persons or groups of persons who interact
and influence each other s behavior. Within this order can be included persons families, organizations,
communities, societies, and cultures (Robbins, Chatterjee amp; Canda, 2011). The systems theory
allows us to examine the focal system from a micro, meso, or macro perspective. Keeping all of the
individual systems autonomous, while still being able to conceptualize the interrelatedness of the
systems together.
Similar to the systems theory, the ecological theory embraces many of the same concepts, but has
narrowed the focus, so that it does not include such a broad view of the system. The Ecological theory
is an adaptive, evolutionary view of human beings in constant exchange interchange with all elements
of their environment (Germain amp; Gitterman, 1980, p. 5). The idea that person and the environment
are inseparable and must be considered jointly, is primary assumption of this theory. The person and
his or her environment form a unitary system in which each is dependent on the other and directly
shapes each other.
Application of theory and key concepts The sample of population of this study was derived from a
population in the urban areas of Milwaukee. Even though this study did not disclose evidence
concerning the ecosystem and the environment of the subjects, it would be fair to assume that they are

The Theme And Themes Of Skellig By Hans David Almond
I read a book called Skellig over the summer vacation. Skellig is written by David Almond, which
won the Hans Christian Andersen Awards in 2010. Hans Christian Andersen Awards is the highest
international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children s books. David Almond grew
up in a Catholic family in Felling on Tyne with four sisters and one brother. He loved writing since he
was a child and dreamed of publishing his own book. In his interview, he revealed that his baby sister
died when he was only 7 years old. His father also passed away when he and his sisters and brothers

From the reviews on Amazon, I found out that people who only gave 1 star tend to say the story was
so boring. They felt confusion when reading Skellig because the story was moving on slowly. The
really interesting part did not start until about 40% of the way in. Also, the story has too many themes
and ideas mixed together, such as the ill baby, the neighbor girl that is home schooled, and the human
like creature in the garage. By having too many themes and ideas, it makes too many mysterious parts,
so that it is hard to understand what is going on. Plus, there are not so many action, so for people that
likes to read a action books, might dislike Skellig. On the other hand, the people who gave 5 stars on
the Amazon reviews said that there are a lot of mysterious parts in the story, and that allows your
imagination to expand and makes you want to guess what is going to happen next. They say that the
novel is great for adults too, even it is a children s book. Therefore, it will be good for reading aloud
with your family. The chapters are short, so it is easy for children and intermediate readers too. I found
it easy to read Skellig, rather than reading novels with really long Chapters. The story has characters
with unusual characteristics for children s books, so you can enjoy a different taste. One review said
that if you have some big or small questions about life, this book might help you find the answer. As a
result, I enjoyed reading this novel, and I will recommend you to read

Reconstruction and Industrialization
Assignment 1: America s Post Civil War Growing Pains Reconstruction and Industrialization 1865
1900 Four years after the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter the Civil War ended with the Union s
Victory over the Confederacy. Though the war was over, there were still many problems that needed to
be resolved in order to reunite the states as a nation. The time period in which steps were taken to
rebuild the nation is known as reconstruction. Reconstruction lasted from 1865 until 1877. The
influence of reconstruction can be seen in the society and also in politics during that time period.

Railroads were built throughout the country and allowed for good to be transported more easily,
cheaper, and more reliable (Schultz 2012, p. 293). With industrialization came more jobs, and because
majority of industrialization occurred in big cities this encouraged farmers to leave the fields and
moved to cities to work in factories (Schultz 2012, p. 293). With the constant growth of businesses
and manufacturers in the north, the population of northern cities grew. In a forty year time span the
population on New York City grew by 1.2 million people (Schultz 2012, p. 302). This growth was
called urbanization. Since the cities were growing at such a rapid pace building developers cut codes

were low income apartment buildings. These apartments were small and cramped and sometimes
referred to as railroad flats because their layout was similar to that of the box railroad cars (Apartment

built in the same manner as the tenements. These buildings did not follow building codes and resulted
in many fires (Schultz 2012, p. 303). Perhaps one of the most devastating fires was that of the Triangle

Analysis Of The Poem The Daughter Of The Dancers
The Virtue Of Innocence
Innocence is a glorified trait in nearly any culture around the world. Many strive to keep the innocence
they are born with, and plenty others spend a lifetime attempting to regain the innocence they have
lost with age. In the following photos, innocence is a common theme, which each photographer
approaches in a unique way. There is a dull and unsettling truth behind the innocent demonstration of
young ladies acting much more mature than their age. Manuel Alvarez Bravo is one of the premier
figures of modern photography and the main photographer among the immense Mexican artists of the
twentieth century. In The Daughter of the Dancers, Bravo illustrates the idea of youthfulness on the
verge of loosing its innocence. Sally Mann, a photographer from the 1980s 90s, caught a reflection of
grown up moves inside the innocence and youth of adolescents in Candy Cigarette through her
utilization of organization, field point, and technique. In 1985 National Geographic photographer
Steve McCurry went through Afghan towns concentrating on the evacuees and recording their
hardships. The Afghan Girl is a classical image of lost innocence; the girl was forced to grow up way
to fast. Her innocence did not survive, but she did.
The innocence of children is secured by the individuals who adore them with the goal that they grow
up as actually unaffected by preventable undesirable contributions as could be expected under the
circumstances. With her back to the camera,

The Case Of The Killer Whales
Killer whales, also known as Orca s, are the largest members of the dolphin family and the top
predator in their ecosystem. They are one of the most intelligent marine creatures, especially due to
their acute senses of sight and hearing. The word Orca means connection and leadership. People travel
from all over the world just to catch a glimpse of the astounding whale. Their beauty has mesmerized
humans for generations, but for many Orca s, captivity limits their freedom and enjoyment of life. In
1965, orca poaching was at its prime. Over a thousand whales were being captured for either greed or
for the purpose of captivity (Timeline of Commercial Whaling Muller). Captivity is a prison for many
orcas, it not only damages the whale s health, but also has a negative impact on breeding, and the
danger of humans.
Captivity causes many health problems in orcas. Female and male killer whales can grow up to thirty
two feet long and weighing up to twenty two thousand pounds. Many of these whales are thrown into
small tanks that are as long as themselves. The tanks are filled with water and mixed in with chemicals
that the whale is not used to; this results in blindness and many skin problems. Almost all orcas in
captivity die from stress related diseases. Some examples are ulcers, pneumonia, heart defects, and
malnutrition. Orcas are known as divers, since their tanks are around twenty six feet wide and forty
feet deep, they have no room to dive and have no other choice but to go

There is a wedding and a celebration, both representing happy events. There is the kitchen and the
fireplace hearth, a place of suffering for Ashputtle. The theme is supported also by the characters who
symbolize good in the form of Ashputtle and evil represented by the stepsisters. The story uses
symbolism further when the white bird perches on the tree looking down at Ashputtle. It symbolizes
her mother watching over her. Whenever Ashputtle needed something, the bird would support her.
Each time a little white bird came and perched on the tree, and when Ashputtle made a wish the little
bird threw down what she had wished for. (School, A.H 2012) This symbolizes that the little bird was
sent there to look over her. There is a good example of personification in the story because the doves

Violence In Antigone By Sophocles
INTRODUCTION
In this essay I will be discussing and referring to Hannah Arendt s essay On Violence (1969), Zizek s
essay Violence (2008) and Walter Benjamin s essay Critique on violence (n.d.) in order to look at the
notion of violence in Antigone written by Sophocles through theatrical terms. I will focusing on the
dramatization of some of the events that lead to the ends and the means and refer to the interruptions
of these events (Arendt: 1969:4).

In the analysis of the play text, I will evaluate how violent events bring about change in the text, and
also discuss how other theatrical elements manifest themselves in the play text and its performance.
The chorus frames the actions in the play, which make it theatrical, that is, the dramatization of
Antigone. Drama is a conflict that is active and continuous until it is framed than made theatrical. In
ancient Greece, the plays were performed in an amphitheatre. The chorus would stand on the orchestra
in between the audience and the stage where the actions happened. They would work as a double
agent as they perform on actions on behalf of the audience and actor. They are put in place to respond
to Antigone s and Creon s actions. The chorus also provides the audience with a backgound, and then
they move the story forward by speaking about the king Creon, who enters after their commentary
(Arendt 1969:45). The juxtaposition in the choral work drives the story forward; therefore the voice of
the chorus is that of change which has already been established as violent (Arendt

The Role Of Plasma Bnp On Adults With Congestive Heart...
Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac hormone with diuretic, natriuretic, and vasodilator
properties. Measurement of plasma B type natriuretic peptide concentrations is increasingly used to
aid diagnosis, assess prognosis, and tailor treatment in adults with congestive heart failure. Recent
studies suggest that the peptide is also useful in pediatric patients. The diagnostic role of plasma BNP
in neonates admitted to the NICU has shown promise as an aid in diagnosis in neonates with signs of
congenital heart disease, as a biomarker of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, patent ductus arteriosus,
persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, a predictive biomarker of the response to
indomethacin in preterm infants, and, more significantly, in acute heart failure.

Essay on Routine Drug Testing For High School Athletes

they constantly use illegal drugs. To help fight this problem, many colleges have taken strong actions
in trying to stop drug abuse by athletes. High schools throughout the country have considered taking
these same actions for various reasons as well. Some people believe that high school athletes ought to

If a drug testing system is set up for high school athletes, then those athletes who are tempted to use
illegal substances will think twice before using them. Furthermore, those athletes that test positive for
these substances will get suspended from their respective teams and this will create a healthier
environment at least in high school sports. A routine drug testing system in high school will help
detect cheaters who use performance enhancing drugs to get and edge over their opponents. In today s
world, with the competitiveness and popularity of steroids and other PEDs among professional
athletes, it is not difficult to believe that many high school athletes are doing the same. A 2003 study
examining steroid use among teens in the United States showed that 6.1 percent had illegally used
steroids and 3.2 percent had injected an illegal drug one or more times during their lifetime ( Teens

the competitive field more leveled. In addition, those who are tempted to use performance enhancers
will be less likely to in order to avoid the consequences. In 1996, while admitting to the use of

blinded by the threat of the cold war their the plan failed, since as we can see throughout the novel,
what the people got in exchange from Trujillo was far worse; genocide, terror, rape and pillage, etc.
Vargas Llosa uses violent language and profanities to express Trujillo s aggressive behaviour and
cruel, bitter attitude towards those around him. He refers to others in racist terms, which reveals from
as very early stage his xenophobic mindset and absolute superiority; this is clearly true due to his
intolerance for other races and nationalities. His character also uses an abundance of homophobic slurs

across is considered as a sexual object for him to own, in a way that is almost primal. Most females he
comes across in the novel are referred to as bitch , showing clear disregard for the opposite sex and
even deep rooted anger towards them; we later learn that this is due to his sexual difficulty with
Urania which turns into frustration. However, faced with this clear sign of his ageing and decline,
Trujillo is unable to confront his own reality, and turns viciously against the closest thing he can blame

The Heroes Of Beowulf And Malcolm X
Not every hero wears a cape or tights, nor do they all have superpowers. Being a hero does not mean
you have to be a crime fighter or a warrior. Heroism comes with the good that you do, and helping
people and wanting better for people are makes heroes. Heroism can range from big to small; a hero
can makes someone s day, or he or she can even make history. Heroes can be local or worldwide. A
hero could even be someone an individual looks up to as a role model. Heroes do not have to be well
known by everyone to be a hero. They could just be helping their community. Not every hero is the
same, and people may not agree on who is and who is not a hero. Heroes are what an individual makes
them to be. Although Beowulf and Malcolm X are people of different time eras, both men demonstrate
a variety of characteristics of a hero.
Starting as a warrior and later becoming the king, Beowulf left behind a legacy. Beowulf portrays
many traits of a hero. According to the Beowulf History Channel documentary, implies that he was a

Most fats are sorted into two categories; saturated fats and unsaturated fats. Saturated fats are branded
as the bad fats and unsaturated fats are branded as the good fats, though both fats are necessary in the

examples of the plant products include coconut oil and palm oils. A way to differentiate saturated and

Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On Earth s World
In today s atmosphere, carbon dioxide (CO2) amounts to 400 parts per million (ppm), but it hasn t
always been that high, or low, depending on what we are comparing it to. It is a trace gas that is vital
to Earth s atmosphere and has been around since the creation of Earth s first atmosphere, which
occurred shortly after the planet s creation. The advent of Earth s second atmosphere happened when
lighter gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving gases like
nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of volcanism to make up the majority
of the atmosphere. This volcanic activity was fueled by gases that came to Earth following the late
heavy bombardment of huge asteroids . Following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical processes such
suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and volcanism. Also, human activity plays
a large part in carbon deposition into the atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels
and the cultivation of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly
reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down near zero, causing all
life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle, including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is
the foundation under which photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key
element in many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and Global
Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had ~100 times as much gas as
the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount of CO2 which is believed to have kept the
Earth from freezing over. Over the next few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans
and rain that started to absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up
suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in the pH level of the
ocean. Plate tectonics played a large role in the gradual evolution of the atmosphere by transferring
carbon dioxide to and from large

Survival of the fittest was said by Charles Darwin. Humans today are interested in how to fix world problems. Such as, diseases that don t currently have vaccines or cures. To search for answers, experts were led to animals. Their fascination towards animals has heightened over the course of millennium years. That curiosity eventually led to animal testing. Many people have different opinions when it comes to using animals for scientific research. The real question is, should animals be tested at all? Although, the outcome of using animals for testing is for the greater good. Using animals to help the survival of the new generations has come a long way. Scientists rely heavily on animals to conduct experiments to figure out if certain surgeries and drugs work. The Communication Process is defined as the transmission of information, and the exchange of meaning, between at least two people (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). Throughout the business world, it can be argued that comprehensible communication is imperative to the successful execution of operations. Organizational effectiveness is extremely significant to any accountancy firm predominantly due to how interlinked a company s accounts are which in turn causes employees and managers to rely on the work of colleagues above and below them. Therefore clear communication is essential to ensuring efficiency and a high quality of work. Through the essay we shall comment on key barriers to communication, ranging from Differences in Power to Cultural and Language differences , and construct strategic solutions which we believe would positively influence the accountancy firm. Barrier to Communication: Power Difference Problem 1: Unapproachable superiors Evidence suggests that employee communication has become significantly more important due to a rise in alternative information notably on the Internet and the increase in employee expectations (Buchanan Huczynski, 2010). However, throughout the business world, it can be argued that a difference in power can have a detrimental effect on communication for both those who are in and those who are not in power. • 11. Baroque and Classical Wordpainting Techniques Renaissance and Baroque composers were faced with the task of creating complex pieces that express both human emotion and ideas. While this is primarily one of the main purposes of all forms of music itself, including genres today, in the 15th through 18th centuries, this was largely done through the musical composition of a piece rather than the lyrics. Composers utilized several different techniques in order to portray to the listener the purpose and meaning of the piece. Renaissance composers were focused on furthering the texts in music, fully developing the lyrics Therefore, the use of word painting, the musical representation of a literal word, phrase, or poetic image, is clearly seen in many pieces. After being told of Eurydice s death, Orpheus declares his emotions in Tu Se Morta. The piece begins an organ and a bass lute, the lute representing Orpheus harp, which speak to the song s dark tones. The singer s vocal lines are also fairly free, they have no set beat, meter, or phrase pattern. This, therefore, creates the sense of a monologue or soliloquy, an actor s expression of inner emotion. Monteverdi, like other Baroque composers, frequently used word painting. The opening words, You are dead, repeated and culminating in You have left me forevermore, never to return, and I remain, are song in a stretched out, long and slow fashion, but as the verse continues, intensity and volume is increased to result in basically an outburst by the words, ed io rimango, or and I remain. The free beat and meter of the vocals allows for the singer to illustrate the emotion of the text through the speed in which the words are sung and the intensity of each word. More traditional word painting is used in the sense that there is a low tone on abissi or abysses in order to depict the deepness and descending nature of the underworld. Another strategic low note is placed on morte to symbolize death and depression. Very high tones are used on the words stelle and sole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genghis was able to unite the small tribes and begin to conquer Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. • 13. Abortion Is A Right Of Privacy It is obvious that abortion is a topic that includes many grey areas. Whether an abortion is a right guaranteed to the mother, or if it is considered taking away the rights the of the unborn baby is one of these grey areas. Pro choice supporters agree with the Roe v. Wade supreme court decision because of the way it applies abortion to the constitution. According to the Internet site Pro Con, the court case presented the idea that abortion fits under the right of privacy (1). By this, the court system is saying that each woman should be granted the ability to do what she wishes with her body. Although this right was not directly created for abortion, there are differing opinions as to whether or not an abortion could fit into one s right of privacy. The term right of privacy is extremely broad, but refers to the privacy granted to an individual from the government. However, pro life supporters do not think this should be applied to an abortion, especially because another human being s life is at stake. They believe that the fetus should also be granted rights, as if they were a living human outside in the real world. Which is why many pro life advocates make the argument that an abortion is killing a human being who cannot defend themselves. Due to this belief, there are many states who have passed fetal homicide laws (1). These were created to respect the rights of the child. As a woman who has become a mother, it is one s responsibility to protect the human growing inside the womb; killing this growing human being, who is yet unable to defend themselves, has no other definition than murder. A common belief among pro choice supporters is that abortion cannot be murder because life does not begin until birth. However, pro life believers say life begins at conception. Behind this belief stands the idea that an abortion is taking away the life and rights of an living individual. Since the day abortion became a vast issue, there has always been a lurking argument between the pro life and pro choice supporters as to when life exactly begins. This argument came about because pro choice supporters used the statement that life does not begin until birth to oppose the pro life opinion that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lenta (2012) expresses how these children have rights, just as adults, to not be mistreated unjustly, and how corporal punishment violates these basic rights. He then discusses how corporal punishment has been found to have serious psychological harm to the child, such as fear, or mental issues. This, in turn, could cause the child to have a harder time focusing on his or her schoolwork due to all the fear, and psychological issues they are trying to deal with as well as trying to keep up their good grades. Since the child might have a hard time focusing on school work, this could cause them to start to fail academically, which is an unwanted behavior to most parents, causing them to get spanked, and this vicious cycle repeats. • 20. Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industry in the city of Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our places. As the blood plasma pH elevates past 7.6 causes the saturation curve to shift 15% to the left of the normal. As the blood plasma decreases and becomes more acidic, hydrogen ions increasingly bind to haemoglobin amino acids which decreases the degree in which the oxygen may combine with the haemoglobin. This is called the Bohr effect. This is a reversible situation as the plasma pH may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Controversy of Privacy and the Internet Privacy is dead get over it , according to Steve Rambam, a privacy investigator who specializes in Internet privacy cases, this is how he considers privacy to be in today s society. He is just another entity living in the midst of a high technology society to whom privacy seems to be dead when reaching the Internet. With all the traffic on the Internet, the risk of private information falling into the wrong hands is excessive, and with all the advances in computer technology the rate of privacy loss is increasing as well. • 26. Visual Analysis Of The Nongfu Spring Water Bottle 1. Visual Analysis The Nongfu Spring Water bottle is a cylindrical object standing just under the length of a forearm. The bottle itself is made out of plastic and is vertically symmetric, but not horizontally, since the upper most part has a funnel shape to accommodate the cap.The bottle is wrapped around by a plastic sheet that is centered slightly upwards and covers about two thirds of the cylindrical surface. The design and composition of plastic wrapping is unique. It contains different elements positioned in harmony with one another, but none in direct interaction. The most prominent drawing on the bottle is a side profile of a lynx in a yellow and blue shirt, inside a blue, oxford boot style ice skate, with its red scarf blowing to the left side, as if to show the idea of a wind. On the top left corner, a fox appears to be sitting on sled, and on the bottom right corner, a mouse seems to be playing a violin. The choice, however, to portray animals as being the ones taking up human customs, and not the other way around, is intriguing. While it makes for a visually pleasing image, the design highlights the expectation of animals and nature to adapt, and to some extent adopt, human behaviours and beliefs. If the goal of the design is to sell the water bottle, it makes sense to associate it with nature, since that is where fresh and cold water is found. How Is Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Parody, Pastiche and Their Contribution to Configuring the Theme of Identity in Tom Stoppard s play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is written by Tom Stoppard. It is a parody for the Shakespearean play, Hamlet. The play starts with the two major characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern flipping a coin. Rosencrantz always won the game and Guildenstern was trying to understand the laws of mathematics. Even from the beginning of the play we are told that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are called Ros and Guil. When the other Shakespearean characters are introduced, the do not appear like in Hamlet , but they are puppets, without life, or personality. They did not have much significance in the play. Now they are minor characters which used the two main characters for their own purpose. Gertrude wanted to understand what happened to her son and Claudius also used them to kill Hamlet. Ros and Guil were their servants because they responded to the call of Claudius and Gertrude. Hamlet was also a minor character here. Like in Shakespeare s play he followed his own interest, but here Ros and Guil were sent to understand his plans. The parody here came from the fact that the most major characters from Shakespeare s play are now minor and the minor characters are major. The tragic effect from Hamlet is now given to clowns, Ros and Guil, which are stupid characters; they do not know who they are. It is an exaggeration of the human condition and this makes a play a tragicomedy. Like Hamlet tried to understand the meaning of life and death in the original play, now Ros and Guil tried to do ... Also, the story has too many themes and ideas mixed together, such as the ill baby, the neighbor girl that is home schooled, and the human like creature in the garage. In the analysis of the play text, I will evaluate how violent events bring about change in the text, and also discuss how other theatrical elements manifest themselves in the play text and its performance. The chorus frames the actions in the play, which make it theatrical, that is, the dramatization of Antigone. Drama is a conflict that is active and continuous until it is framed than made theatrical. In ancient Greece, the plays were performed in an amphitheatre. The chorus would stand on the orchestra in between the audience and the stage where the actions happened. They would work as a double agent as they perform on actions on behalf of the audience and actor. They are put in place to respond to Antigone s and Creon s actions. The chorus also provides the audience with a backgound, and then they move the story forward by speaking about the king Creon, who enters after their commentary (Arendt 1969:45). The juxtaposition in the choral work drives the story forward; therefore the voice of the chorus is that of change which has already been established as violent (Arendt ... The advent of Earth s second atmosphere happened when lighter gases such as hydrogen escaped into space or were bound to molecules, leaving gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other gases that were the product of volcanism to make up the majority of the atmosphere. This volcanic activity was fueled by gases that came to Earth following the late heavy bombardment of huge asteroids . Following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leading up to the present, levels of CO2 have fluctuated due to geochemical processes such suspension of the gas in sediment, silicate rock weathering, and volcanism. Also, human activity plays a large part in carbon deposition into the atmosphere predominantly through the burning of fossil fuels and the cultivation of livestock. On a drastically larger time scale the carbon cycle is ever so slightly reducing atmospheric CO2 , which will ultimately bring the concentration down near zero, causing all life on the planet to be wiped out. The carbon cycle, including both terrestrial and aquatic processes, is the foundation under which photosynthesis is possible. Aside from the carbon cycle, CO2 is a key element in many other natural processes and phenomena such as the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming . After the advent of the second atmosphere, the atmosphere had ~100 times as much gas as the current atmosphere , which contained a large amount of CO2 which is believed to have kept the Earth from freezing over. Over the next few billion years the water vapor condensed to form oceans and rain that started to absorb CO2. Eventually 50% of the carbon in the atmosphere would end up suspended in the ocean. This caused ocean acidification, which is the decrease in the pH level of the ocean. Plate tectonics played a large role in the gradual evolution of the atmosphere by transferring carbon dioxide to and from large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
