Definition Of Marriage On The Church And Beyond Essay
DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE
Bibliographic Resource: Gary H. and Woolverton A. Marriage Ministry by Design: Designing
Effective Ministry to Marriages in the Church and Beyond Bloomington: WestBow Press, (2012) 4.
Annotation: Gary and Woolverton defined marriage as an agreement between one man and one
woman that joins their lives legitimately, financially, inwardly, and physically. It can be
characterized further as a social union between individuals that makes family relationship.
HISTORY
Bibliographic Resource: Cooke, Bernard J. Alternative Futures for Worship: Christian Marriage
Collegeville Minnesota: liturgical press, (1987) 34.
Annotation: Cooke traced the history of Christian marriage to the earliest periods of the church s
life; Cooke stated that in the earliest periods of the church s life there was no proof for anything
that could be called Christian marriage. And that this absence of confirmation demonstrates plainly
that separated from the way that two people included were Christian, there was nothing detectable
distinctive about Christian marriage, about the way they began, the way they were lived, or the
way they ended. The marriages of Christians were not noticeably, not quite the same as alternate
marriages in the general public. Christians married as indicated by the examples of whatever
society they lived in.

Writing Skills Process Analysis
Within English 219, we have already learned a vital set of writing skills, that will allow for the
improvement of essays, and summaries that must be written for future assessments. Some of
these skills that would be relevant for achieving general writing improvement could be ideas
such as thesis development, structuring and planning, or more specific examples when actually
fleshing out the essay such as elements of grammar and style. Thesis development which is
crucial so that ideas can be fully explained and related back to a point which can be interpreted as
an overarching theme for the entire paper, and allows the reader to interpret the topic of not only
the essay but of each paragraph. Taking a step back we looked in class at the subject... Show more

Voice was the main stylistic element that we discussed in class, and it is the role of voice that
allows for the flow of the paper to remain constant and the reader to remain engaged within a
paper. Without proper voice, the paper can be confusing to the reader and creates issues of flow
while reading the article of work, even worse is the mixing of voices which causes mass
disorganization and causes a piece of work to be hard to interpret and comprehend. Within our
entire English class so far, even though it has only been a short few weeks, we have invested
time into learning crucial techniques to improve writing for academic purposes. Whether this
writing be that of planning out major writing assignments in advance with inkshedding and
outlining, our designing a thesis so that one s ideas can be properly developed within a paper.
Another aspect we have learned it how to properly convey style elements within a paper such as
voice as to allow the flow for the reader to be constant and avoid interruption. Together these ideas
of planning, thesis development, and elements of style allow for an essay to be powerful and
consistent within the realm of

Articles Of Confederation Analysis
The Articles of Constipation proved inadequate because simply put, it wasn t an effective form of
government. The Articles were formed on March 1, 1781, but only lasted to 1789. This new form
of government created only one branch of government, the legislative branch (Congress). Under
the Articles, Congress held the power to conduct foreign affairs, make treaties, declare war,
maintain an army and a navy, coin money, and establish post offices. However, decisions made by
Congress needed to be approved by at least 9 of the thirteen states. Also, Congress did not have the
power to infringe upon States and citizens of the states.
The Articles of Confederation had many issues, most concerning the central government or lack
thereof. The three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For when the poor seized the power of it, they attempted to steal the property of the rich for
themselves setting off brutal civil wars in which the people were divided into social classes: poor
and rich. Thus in this case the poor neglected the common good of the people to pursue their own
interests. Historically along with Greece, many other constitutional governments have neglected to
obey the constitutional limits that restricted them, trying to illegal increase their power and
crushing the rights of the people. King John and the Magna Carta is an example of this, where after
he agreed to it, he continued to neglect the rights of the people, not always guaranteeing them the
freedoms vested in the Magna Carta.
Plato concluded that: Until philosophers are kings, or the kings and princes of this world have

Enlightenment era, a man by the name of Thomas Hobbes who had an immense about to say
about the nature of people. Hobbes argued that people in society are naturally bitter and self
centered in their lifetime. Many citizens look to make things better for themselves rather than look

follow their selfish ways to make their own life better. They would not look out for those below
them but for those above and equal to them to potentially improve their own

Characters In George Eliot s The Mill On The Floss
George Eliot is a verbose writer, and is exceedingly descriptive when it comes to her characters
in The Mill on the Floss. Three central characters Eliot paints with an especially detailed and
many layered brush are Maggie, Tom, and Mr. Tulliver. Mr. Tulliver is a decently prosperous
farmer, the proprietor of Dorlcote Mill, and the father of Maggie and Tom. In the first dialogue
of the story, we learn that Mr. Tulliver s desire is to give Tom a good eddication, an eddication
as ll be a bread to him... The two years at th academy ud ha done well enough, if I d meant to
make a miller and farmer o him, for he s had a fine sight more schoolin nor I ever got: all the
learnin my father ever payed for was a bit o birch at one end and the alphabet at th other, (Eliot
9). Mr. Tulliver s uneddicated country speech is certainly a far cry from the exact Eton grammar
of the clergyman he employs as Tom s second school master (Eliot 123). The simple and almost
comical nature of Mr. Tulliver is further shown through the medium of his own diction. In a
conversation with his wife, Mr. Tulliver attempts to use symbolism to illustrate his point that
Bessy Tulliver finds fault in things that aren t just the way she d like them. He tells Mrs.
Tulliver, you d want me not to hire a good waggoner, cause he d got a mole on his face... No, no,
Bessy; I didn t mean justly the mole; I meant it to stand for summat else; but niver mind it s
puzzling work, talking is, (Eliot 10). Talking

Taking a Look Back at Smallville
The series Smallville takes place is a small farm town of the same name. Twelve years before the
show begins the town was affected by a meteor shower. The meteors brought the main character,
Clark, to planet Earth; he was found by an older couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, who weren t
able to have children. Clark is no ordinary boy though, he has the powers of Superman; the super
strength, and fast speed. Throughout the show we see him wear all three of Superman colors red,
yellow, and blue. The television takes the audience twelve years after the meteor shower struck
Smallville and shows how the town is still being affected by red and green kryptonite. The series
Buffy the Vampire Slayertakes place in a small town Sunnydale, which is above the hellmouth.
Buffy who is the main character, became a vampire slayer when she turned fifteen. She has the
duties to protect her town, and save the world from vampires, and demons taking over. Her parents
are divorced, she is taken care of by her mother and her watcher Giles.
Over the past decades, the outtake of what a superhero is, what superheroes do, and how they look
like has changed drastically. Superheroes as Dream Doubles written by James Whitlark focuses on
just that, the changes from the Golden Age to the newer Bronze Age. Whitlark covers how people

Book Analysis: My Father s prostitute My Father s Prostitute by Steven Whitacre, is an honest
and chilling book about an innocent boy s struggle from child to adulthood. When reading this
book, I found myself completely shocked and interested at the same time. It was different to read a
book from the authors life and I think that is what made it that much more interesting. My Father s
Prostitute is a book about a child s struggle, that leads into adulthood. When Steven was about four
years old, something had happened that would change his life forever. After his dad suggested to

During the book, Steven talks about his depression because of the traumatic experiences with his
father. When Steven says, At this point, my depression really kicked in (pg. 45). This is because
his hippocampus has shrunk. It has been researched, that people that have major depression, have
a shrunken hippocampus. The longer Steven has been depressed, results in his hippocampus
getting smaller and loses the ability to work correctly. In addition to the hippocampus, the
amygdala has a role in depressive behavior as well. The amygdala forms part of the limbic system
and is a set of neurons that are shown to play a major role in the processing of emotions. The
amygdala is a part of the brain that has a direct correlation to depression and oversees evaluating
the emotional significance of different kinds of stimuli. For example, the amygdala is overly
active in people with depression when you show them sad stimuli, and is under active when
shown positive things like rewards. This part of the brain also organizes the emotional experience
in expression. What this means is that it organizes endocrine response to stress and threats. The
more depressed a person is, the more their amygdala must act. The DLPFC, stands for dorsolateral
prefrontal cortex, and is the latest part of the brain to form in humans and other mammals. This
part of the brain also has a lot to do with major depressive disorder because

Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, and Playstation Two...
Which system is better, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, or Sony PlayStation 2? Which
system is the better buy? These are just some of the questions people ask themselves when it comes
to purchasing one of these systems. In my opinion, I believe that the best buy is the PlayStation 2.
The PS2 offers a reasonably powerful processor, about 297MHz (Megahertz). It may seem a
little bit on the sluggish side compared to the processor of Xbox, about 733MHz, and to the
GameCube processor, about 485MHz. If you ask me, I think that 733MHz is a little much for a
gaming console, it s just plain ridiculous. The PS2 has enough power to run high quality games.
And with the planned decrease in cost for the PS2, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sony has a 10 or 15GB hard drive planned to come out during June of 2002.
Both PlayStation 2 and Xbox have the capability to play DVD s, but with Xbox, there s a catch.
You need to purchase a $30 DVD Playback Kit. With PS2, you can watch DVD s right after you
hook it up, without any extra purchases. GameCube cannot play DVD s, and probably never will,
although Nintendo is developing a DVD playing GameCube, it will probably be well over what it is
priced now. The PS2 can play DVD s, audio CD s, PlayStation 2 discs, and PlayStation discs. The
Xbox supports audio CD s, DVD s (with kit), and Xbox discs. The GameCube only supports the
1.5GB GameCube disc.
The controller for the PlayStation 2 has been the same since Sony came out with the Dual Shock
controller for PlayStation, so the controllers from Sony are universal with both the PlayStation
and the PlayStation 2. The PS2 controller is just the right size for any age. The Xbox controller
is huge compared to the GameCube and PS2 controllers. The hands of a 6 year old could not be
able to press all of the buttons. The GameCube controller is about the same size as a PS2 controller
except it has less buttons.
The PS2 has games made for people in any age group. I believe that the GameCube is mainly
directed toward the younger kids because most all of the games made so far are either rated

Alcohol Consumption Among Youth Is Not A New Issue Essay
1. Introduction
Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing
history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the
world, the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note
as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down a bit and feel at ease in situations out
of their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea
that alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm.
These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article,
Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the
disparities of views between those who are 50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of
New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The views show that the older group believe that New
Zealanders, especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption,
however, those in the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink
excessively, many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to
alcohol consumption.
This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further explore how as a
society we can change the social norm so excessive drinking is not an issue without stigmatizing a
particular segment of society.

The Canadian Corps and CEF
The Confederation took place in 1867, and the Canadian Expeditionary Force(CEF) was raised in
1914. The CEF is what protects what the Confederation created, and would not the nation s greatest
achievement be protecting that which the nation created. Canada did not enter the war of its own
accord but was automatically at war when Britain declared war against Germany. Canada entered
the war to stand by its mother country, to protect the country who founded it. The Canadian Corps
and CEF were created to defend Canada, and fought not only in the war but for the recognition that
Canada deserved, to then show that in the Great War we achieved something great, and finally to
piece together to how Canada is now, to build through the years and show that this was truly
Canada s greatest achievement.
The Canadian Corps and CEF were formed to protect Canada in times of war. The Canadian
Corps was formed as an operational force in France and Flander s Field in 1914. Collectively
every troop that were deployed were referred to as the Canadian Corps. The Canadian Corps was
sent out in 3 divisions, the first sent to England in 1914 and trained on the Salisbury Plain and
then crossed over to France to join the war. The second division was formed in 1915 and
immediately sent over to France. The third was a fully manned and equipped combat division
disbanded at the end of the First World War. These divisions were each sent out as a small
operational force that defended Canada. However

Ancient Chinese Ink Techniques In The 21st Century
Ancient Chinese Ink Techniques in the 21st Century.
As the paint brush dips into the paint and watching the brush the brush form perfect lines,
knowing that the art that is being created is what one is expressing. Art and design has been
influencing our lives since the dawn of the ages. Art has been created on cave walls, has been
formed in architecture, and continues to grow and expand. Art is very beautiful, but also is a
matter of expression. Art can mean many things such as love, concern, anger, desire, and politics.
Two Chinese born ink artists by the name of Zhang Daqain, and Hua Tunan have become well
known traditional Chinese ink artists. More known for his landscape designs, Zhang Daqain has
incorporated splashes and pops of color in these traditional looking drawings. Through the
decades, other artists have learned traditional ink drawings but have also developed other artistic
ways to express who they are. For example, one artist, Hua Tunan, is a young artist who has
experimented with graffiti and in his favor, was a success. Both artists are advocates for nature
being their primary subjects. From mountainous ranges to flowers, to detailed portraits of animals,
these paintings bring awareness to people about the beauty on our planet. One of Zhang s work
from Art of Asian Landscapes contains bold colors just like in Hua Tunan s art like his ink
splattered tiger. Zhang Daqain and Hua tunan are both amazing artists that have created exquisite

George Saunders s Speech Analysis
Commencement Address
What do you regret in life? What will you regret later on in life? People regret a lot of things
during their lifetime, but what is the most critical thing to regret? I will tell you what. The answer
is to find in George Saunders speech Commencement Address delivered at Syracuse University in
New York State in May 2013. George Saundersis an American writer and university professor. In
his speech, George Saunders focuses on some moments in his life, but also bigger themes in life
and work. The need for kindness, the risk in focusing too much on success and the fact that we
prioritize our own needs over the needs of others, even though, deep down our heart we want to be
less selfish, more opening and loving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first part is about the fact that we think we are central to the universe, our personal story is
the most interesting and important. The second part is that we are separate from the universe, the
US and then all the others. It is like we are not one gathered unite in this world and therefore we
feel unfamiliar and different from people we do not know. The third part is that we are permanent
which means that people only want to focus on what has importance for their own life.
George Saunders describes success as a mountain that keeps growing ahead of you as you hike it
This metaphor contributes to the understanding of his point that says that there is a real danger of
putting too much focus in succeeding because it will take up your whole life. This is the only
target people nowadays will focus on and therefore the big questions go untended.
The message in George Saunders speech is that people should be more kind to each other and
start being less selfish. Lack of kindness and love is the exact thing you are going to regret. As
the last part of the speech shows, Saunders is exaggerating the imagination of how kind and
loving the students are in the future. [...] and we re both so kind and loving we re nearly
unbearable, drop me a line, let me know how your life has been. I hope you will say: It has been so

Business analytics is helping businesses decide where to invest, increase profit and make the
most out of their company based on data that is collected and analyzed. As described in the
article, The New World of Business Analytics, business analytics can be defined as the broad use
of data and quantitative analysis for decision making within organizations (4). The use of this type
of research is developing new insights and understanding of the performance of a business.
Through the increase in data analysis, companies are able to make decisions based on the
information that they have received and studied. Observing analytics can be thought of as, thinking
differently, asking questions, and never being satisfied with doing things the way they have always
been done. (Analytics, Not Statistics, Driving NHL Evolution) As a field that is requiring more
researchers, business analytics is becoming a popular field of study at many universities because of
the increased need of employees by companies because of the success rate of business analytics
techniques. Analytics is observing statistics and finding the meaning behind those statistics.
Companies and students in the business field know the increased importance of quantitative
analysis of data for understanding, prediction and optimization. ( The New World of Business

After reading the short story as a whole, Ms. Cameron then wanted the students to read
independently. I saw Ben using skills such as, pointing to the words as he read them. However, he
often pointed twice, or skipped pointing to particular words altogether. In addition to this, while
reading Ben omitted and added new words without self correction. This made me think that this
was his way of trying to understand the text. This also leads me to believe that Ben is having
some difficulty with word recognition and fluency/pace. When Ben read the book the second time
he used the pictures to read the story with no regard for the text. This tells me that he is able to
interpret the pictures in order to understand the story when he is not able to read the sentences.
The second lesson I observed was geared towards phonemes, segmenting and blending. Ms.
Cameron did a lot of modeling before this lesson. Although I have only been in her class twice, I
can tell she is a firm believer in the I do, we do, you do method. Ms. Cameron gathered all the
students on the rug and showed the class how to tap out different sounds of the letters in words
like sit, mud, sad using their fingertips. Ben did not participate in this for the majority of the
guided practice. I believe that this was due to Ben s lack of attention during the instruction. He was

Injustice In Selma
Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay, is a depressingly relevant film. With protests over the murders
of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Antonio Martin, the subject of police brutality, specifically
targeted at black people and protesters, is extremely appropriate. The brutalities inflicted on
African Americans in the 1960 s are highly shocking, but it is the knowledge that citizens are still
being murdered by our police that truly hits the hardest. Director Ava DuVernay uses intimate
moments and talented actors to adeptly balance the moral lessons inherent to this story with the
humanization of the venerated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The film covers a fairly short period of
time during the year 1965; during this time period, Dr. King (played by David Oleyowo) was

This look into the inner life of King and his family adds another level of depth and contrast to the
story, giving the viewer something to empathize with. This sense of empathy is crucial when
appealing to an audience in awe of Dr. King. Additionally, these personal family scenes have FBI
logs superimposed over them, a great touch that adds a certain insidiousness to these heartfelt
moments, the knowledge that their lives are in danger even from their government. David
Oleyowo s portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. is uncannily close to the real historical figure;
this is most apparent in the scenes of Dr. King giving a speech, as most of us have heard at least
one of King s speeches, giving us a point of comparison. Selma was nominated in the Best
Picture category at the Oscars, but in my opinion, Oleyowo was even more deserving of a
nomination in the Best Male Actor category. As a sidenote, the complete lack of people of color
nominated for acting awards in this year s Oscars is a travesty unto itself, but it is especially so in
my eyes after this movie. This film made it all the more apparent that there

A Common Agreement Within The World That Deals With Men...
There is a common agreement within the world that deals with men and women being very
different. Along with the many physical characteristics that are distinct, it is also known that men
and women think differently as well and may have different reasons for their actions. Mary Harris
is a researcher and the author of Cholas, Mexican American Girls, and Gangs , within her research
she has conducted various interviews with females in gangs. From her research she has came to the
conclusion that for girls, Gangmember s behavior is determined by social structures and group
culture by defining the perspective and attitude of the girl gang (Harris 301). In other words,
Harris is explaining that peer groups, such as gangs, to females tend to have a powerful influence
on them by having certain rules, values, and disciplinary actions. As these females further become
members they tend to create cooperativeness which then leads them into a feeling of doing
anything for the gang and its members. For these girls, violence is conforming behavior shaped by
the normative standards of the subculture (Harris 301). Throughout Harris interviews she was able
to identify that youth deviance in females is created through the constant conforming behavior that
is upheld by the members. The conforming of norms within the gang such as being more violent
is very common. The reasons for youth deviance for females in a gang is because of wanting more
territory, be in control, and to gain power and

phone by his company. It was introduced as a nice, cuddly friend. It had all of your mates contact
details on it. It was always in your pocket or pressed against your ear, he says. However, within a
short space of time Whitfield, a father of six who was then in his late thirties, started suffering
terrible headaches. Then my hearing deteriorated and I kept... Show more content on

Meanwhile, several countries are implementing or considering a total ban of Wi Fi in schools. So
what is the truth of the matter? Are mobiles really dangerous? There is no question that some of
those sounding the alarm belong to that subset of humanity who see conspiracies everywhere they
look. But, investigating the subject, it became clear to me that the arguments against phones are
not all the products of paranoid minds. Far from it. The fact is, considering how widespread
phones are (more than 5.3 billion mobiles are in use out of a global population of 7 billion)
anything that proved they were dangerous would be a highly inconvenient truth. Mobile phones is
an issue we all bury our heads in the sand about, confirms Denis Henshaw, professor of physics and
head of the Human Radiation Effects group at Bristol University. The first mobile phone
technology was rolled out without really any consideration for the long term effects, just like
asbestos and smoking. The government rakes in billions from the technology, in taxes from the
mobile phone companies and licensing of the networks. The new generation really doesn t want to
know about any potential ill effects. Think of the tobacco companies says the anti phone lobby who
concealed the dangers of smoking and the addictiveness of nicotine and supported their position
with numerous deceptive studies. Or asbestos producers who hid evidence that the mineral was
dangerous even though tens of thousands of

Firearm Evidence Research Paper
Firearms evidence is a key to capturing a shooter. Firearms evidence can be found at different
types of crime scenes; from homicide to rape. Forensic technicians can determine the distance of a
shot based on power residue, they can compare cartridge cases and bullets to particular guns
possibly used at the crime scene and link them to owners, forensic technicians can also determine
the sequence of shots fired and trajectories. Gunshot residue found at a crime scene can be matched
with that found on suspect s hands. When a firearmis located at a crime scene, a forensic technician
must first of all diagram and photograph it before collecting it. It is important to treat every

Ida B. Wells Barnett
During the American Progressive Era, generally regarded as the late 1800s and early 1900s,
many ideals were changing among the American people. During this period, which closely
followed the end of the civil war, there was an especially great amount of change in what was
considered an appropriate way of conducting oneself, especially if one happened to be a black
woman. Ida B. Wells Barnett, an African American activist who was particularly outspoken on
the inhumanity and barbarism of public lynching, can be used as an excellent primary source
exemplifying how black women in the progressive era felt that they were expected to be
presented. As well as identifying the roles and visions of women in this period, Ida B. Wells
Barnett is an example of a women who broke many barriers, exceeding the limitations put on her
by the social constructs of her raceand gender.
During this period in American history there were strong views held by the majority of society
about how black women were supposed to conduct themselves. There was a strong patriarchal
dominance over black women, with the subordinance of women being greatly influenced by the
remnants of slavery. Since men were so fiercely controlled during slavery, often not allowed much
contact with their families, and very strict regulations surrounding their sexual relationships with
their wives, much of the masculinity of the men seemed to be stripped away by their masters. After
being freed, many black men felt the need to

Dance Of The Call Bells Essay
When admitted to a hospital patients may feel they have little control over their situation and the
surrounding environment. Using a call bell to meet their needs is perhaps one of a few things that
gives patients a feeling that they still have some control. The title of the article Dance of the Call
Bells: Using Ethnographyto Evaluate Patient Satisfaction with Quality of Care, suggests that the
key phenomenon of the study was the evaluation of patients satisfaction with quality of care they
received in terms of their experience in the use of call bells (Deitrick, Bokovoy, Glenn, Panik,
2006). The title did not describe the population, group or community under study, other than stating
that the population was patients . The title did not state that phenomenon was also looked at and
analyzed through perspectives of family members and staff, nor did it mention that the study was
done on a med surgical unit.
The abstract of the study clearly and concisely summarized the main features of the report. It stated
that the study was conducted as a qualitative, ethnographic research. Then, it briefly described the
problems associated with call bells and how these problems affected patients perceptions regarding
the quality of care. It explained that the study identified three interrelated themes regarding
communication through call bells including answering the call bell, communicating the patient s
request to the appropriate health care provider and following through with the

Analysis Of An Open Letter To Myself
The song An Open Letter to Myself, off of the album The Here and Now, by Architects is an
exemplary song that undergoes a complementary set of major changes throughout the piece. This
song was released in 2011 and it would be classified as somewhere within the hard rock to metal
genre. While it is common to note the relationship between the writer, performer, and the listener,
in this piece it is particularly important to do so. Without one of these components present, this
song would likely not carry the same emotional weight as it does. Moreover, this song carries its
meaning through its differentiation from itself. Within the piece, the lyrics shift from originally
blaming others to blaming the writer and the intensity of the audio changes from soft to grand to
compliment this change. One of the major changes this song makes from the beginning to the end
can be noted in the lyrics. The writer, Sam Carter, expresses a sense of multifaceted growth
through the piece. In the first verse, the writer brushes off the lack of connection to those around
him as something that was common to others around him by utilizing either third person, or first
person plural, articles to describe what he did not do. Thus, he believed that he should not be
judged for this error. However, in the second verse, Carter turns to explicitly blaming himself for
the lack of contact and appreciation of an individual he refers to throughout the song as my so
called friend . This

The Financial Accounting Standards Board Essay
On February 26, 2016, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued an Accounting
Standards Update (ASU) which revised the standards on leasing. The intent for this revision was to
improve how leases are being reported on the financial statements. The consensus is that the
classification tests in current use for making this determination fail to provide a faithful and
accurate representation for leasing transactions in general. In 2005, the U.S. Securities and
Exchange Commission had also made recommendations which indicated this need for change in
regard to how leases were being reported. Overall, it is believed that this change would ensure
greater transparency in the financial statements concerning these type transactions. As
commonplace as leasearrangements are, accounting for leases are not quite so clear cut. One of
the hotly debated topics for leasing standards that is currently being discussed is how off
balance sheet financing presents an erroneous and misleading view of a company s true financial
position. This problem began when companies would plan ways to circumvent the rules currently
under U.S. GAAP in attempts to classify leases as operating leases when in actuality they were
capital leases. An example of this when a company purposely designs the leasing arrangements so
that the lease ends at 74% of the asset s estimated life whereas one of the U.S. GAAP criteria for
leases directs that it must be a non cancellable lease term that is

retailers today are branching out into areas up to now unimagined by the business community. One
such area are plans for expansion that present unique opportunities for the New York based
Westfield Corporation.
The Wind of Change Is Blowing
The Westfield mega mall conglomerate already owns over 35 retail malls in the U.S., the U.K. and
in Italy. However, an out of the box mindset blew into the Westfield corporation recently as they
hired Tony Award winning Scott Sanders to help explore and manage diverse entertainment and
amusement platforms to enhance the existent shopping environment.

Westfield offices agree with his vision to not only have entertainment combined with retailing, as
such, but specialty restaurants, TV production and viewing, dance productions and vast Internet
facilities as well. In addition, his vision incorporates all the above plus utilizing vacant mall space
for late evening and late weekend hours when shopping tends to slow down.
Under the Westfield corporate banner, Sanders continues with the development and production of
Broadway bound plays including Tootsie, Coal Miner s Daughter and Up Here. Moreover, a
motion picture adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda s In the Heights is already in the works.
The combining of mall shopping experiences and the theatrical touch provides a promising
expectation of success. While this is not the first time such an experience has been attempted in
malls, it is the first on such a grand scale with so many high caliber theatrical professionals
involved. As of 2014, The Westfield Group, out of Australia and New Zealand, separated from its
international holdings and in effect created The Westfield Corporation that focuses on its

What s Surprising In The Wizard Of Oz
In 1939, Kansan teenager Dorothy Gale (portrayed by Judy Garland) decides to run away from
home to protect her little dog, Toto, from her heinous neighbor, Almira Gulch. Before getting very

strange world of colorful characters by a tornado. Realizing that there is only one way to return
home, she sets off with a group of her newfound friends on the adventure of a lifetime.
Considered to be the most popular films of all time, the incredible tale of Dorothy must be

director Victor Fleming s use of film. The movie as a whole was shot in two different films:... Show

One societal theme that this film emphasizes is the insufficiency of adulthood. While most of us
like to believe that becoming an adult gives us all the answers, it doesn t. Even in adulthood,
many of us fail tot live up to the expectations of others and ourselves. Many adults are just as
powerless as they were in their childhood. Take Auntie Em as an example. She can t do anything
to prevent Toto from being taken away. While Dorothy can t comprehend how she d let Toto be
sent to slaughter, Auntie Em knows she doesn t have the power to protect him. As an adult, she
realized she had to follow the rules of society. This happens again later on at the most crucial
moment of the film. After defeating the Wicked Witch, we see that the great Wizard of Oz is a

Stanley Pinter s Film Character Analysis
Though the present is an outcome of past contemplations and actions, Pinter does not reveal the
past as he wants the audience to think about the various possible ways in which past can influence
the present. Furthermore by leaving the interpretations open to the audience, Pinter tries to portray
that historical archives as storehouses of narratives of the past, cannot be fully relied upon, as
these are narratives written in accordance to the dictates of those in power and as such are biased
in their interpretations. As the play proceeds, Stanley, in a long monologue, tells Meg of a concert,

The physical and mental torture meted out to Stanley leaves an indelible scar in his mind and
gives birth to his great fear against all forces that coalesce to form a collective force (they) which
is immensely powerful and at the same time devastating. This paranoia is dormant till the time
Stanley is in a comfortable, secure place and surrounded by familiar, innocuous people like Pete,
Meg and Lulu. But the arrival of the mysterious Goldberg and McCann, in the boarding house
galvanizes the terror and panic in the subconscious mind and intensifies it to the extent, that
Stanley vents out his frustration by madly beating the toy drum which he gets as a birthday
present (though he denies it is his birthday) from Meg. The savagery of Stanley s reaction on
receiving the toy drum is also effected by Stanley s despair at being treated like a child by Meg.
A toy drum is usually gifted to a child. Meg gifts Stanley a toy drum as he is a musician and also
because she feels the child in Stanley will like the gift. But what she fails to understand is that by
being a mother surrogate to Stanley, she has made Stanley dependent on her to an extent that is
disliked by Stanley himself. Stanley s disgust for the mother er Meg and his attempt to free himself
from her (abject s) clutches is thus reflected in his uncontrolled and wild beating of the drum, gifted

What Does Zno Nanoparticles Exhibit High Toxicity Against...
ZnO is an inorganic metal oxide with Wurtzite structure. ZnO nanoparticles have been extensively
studied in the field of catalysis, paints, cosmetics, solar cells, gas sensors and food packaging
materials [1 6]. It is due to their ease of preparation in different morphologies, low cost, UV
shielding properties, large surface to volume ratio, chemically alterable physical properties. The
effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles on sex hormones and cholesterol in rat has also been reported [7].
Literature shows that ZnO nanoparticles exhibit high toxicity against bacteriabut minimum effect on

Clostridium perfringens is a bacterium that is usually responsible for food poisoning. Because
the toxin encoding genes can be located on extra chromosomal elements or in variable regions of
the chromosome, several pathovars have arisen, each of which is involved in a specific disease

Administration of the United States of America that around 30 million people every year fall sick
due to the infections caused by eating food which is contaminated [11,12]. Studies have shown that
Salmonella enterica is one amongst the more prevalent bacterial pathogens that causes food borne

Argumentative Essay On Apollo 51
Apollo 51: The Surface of the Moon or a Sound Stage in Nevada ?
It was a long anticipated summer night, when millions of Americans crowded around their bulky
television screens. It was 1969, America had recently passed through the height of the Cold War,
but their relationship with the Soviet Union continued to become more hostile. There was no clear
winner in sight, and America was desperate for a definitive victory, it was this moment, in this very
moment that they finally had one, and they clung to it. This moment was, of course, the Apollo 11
moon landing on the 20th of July, 1969. However, as with many famous events captured in the
public eye, it wasn t long before conspiracies began to unfold. Some began to question the validity
of the photographs and videos associated with the moon landings, others made claims that the
government couldn t possibly have had the technology necessary to successfully land on the moon,
and some even went as far as to point out the exact set and director that supposedly filmed the
hoaxed moon landings. I first became aware of the conspiracy surrounding the moon landings about
two years ago when I watched a documentary on the topic and naturally, being the patriotic
American that I am, I sided with NASA without considering any evidence on either side of the
argument, but recently, the topic was brought up in conversation and it stuck an interest within me.

Problems Of Using Big Data Help Us Understand What...
What are the problems in using big data to help us understand what customers want?
Introduction
Big data, defined as a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and availability of
data (What is Big Data? , n. d. ), has attracted considerable interest in many fields as it promises to
offer a level of analytic detail that has not been reached so far. Whilst it is often promoted as the
solution to many marketing problems, it has some significant disadvantages. Cost, personnel,
problems relating to the interpretation of the data and difficulties deciding how to apply the new
knowledge to existing products and product design are all important problems.

Velocity. Massive data should be dealt with in time otherwise the quality of data will lose.
Probably, Big Data can be the future of marketing. However, there are some problems in using
Big Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how to address problems, the
investment will be wasted but enterprises still search around in the haystack for the needle.
Therefore, I will illustrate the problems and find out some solutions for Big Data.
Problems
Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data, explaining customers
desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the businesses are confusing what data
they should concentrate on. A recent Gartner report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan
or launch a Big Data project, though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To
understand what customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies
target. The large data volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity.
Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS, DAVIS.
2014).This phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies. Take Google Flu Trends
as an example, they predicted that the Disease Control and Protection Center wasn t able to control
the flu spread quickly and effectively as time went on. Later, this conclusion was proved wrong.
Hence, it means that future prediction contains inconsistencies

Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of Euthanasia and all
are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state of Oregon. When a patient
is being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is
called Euthanasiaby action. A person could also be assisted to deaththrough euthanasia by omission;
this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also
patients can be given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die,
either through the progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of
doctor assisted suicideis whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference
between non voluntary and involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request
to be euthanized but they are. Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that
they not be euthanized and they are. Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still
regularly practiced in today s healthcare system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when
the first law was written to outlaw anyone from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and
or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be used in the taking of a person s own life. This
would include taking the life of another person with their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting

people against the interests of immigrants. Most Americans were afraid of the immigrants and the
power they had on the economy, so they started to attack the immigrants, both physically and
socially. Many political cartoons were published supporting anti immigration and violence was
geared towards the newcomers (Appleby 310). There is no doubt the abundant numbers of
immigrants created issues amongst the American people. Immigration was an issue that needed
attention. In attempt to hinder the incoming population, the Chinese Exclusion Act started in 1882.
The act prevented all people of Chinese origin to move to America. It also prevented any Chinese
person already living in America to gain citizenship, if they had not already (310). The government
also began to put regulations and restrictions on who could enter the U.S. In 1907 the Immigration

laws. They prevented unskilled immigrants and criminals from entering the U.S. Their job was also
to deport any immigrants that had committed a crime (America and Immigration). The government

43617760. There Are Many Ways That Groups Of People Allocate
43617760 There are many ways that groups of people allocate goods. The most common way to
do this in modern culture is through a market. Markets, as Carruthers and Babb describe it in
chapter 1, are the particular supply and demand of any given good or service that are exchanged
for a value of money with certain given information. As Wright and Best describe in chapter 3, this
way of organizing an economyallows for an effective way to step up an economy. Additionally, it
gives the maximum freedom to buy and sell as one pleases. Such markets can take place in any

Whether through their spending policies, taxing policies or lack there of, or days that are
considered holidays the state has great influence. These can sometimes can be seen as a harmful set
of actions, but as Bandelj and Sowers point out in chapter one these acts by the state have a real
importance to how the economy works. The state as noted above takes an important role in
managing things that are not natural. Without the government to regulate these things we not be
able to sustain these now vital and constructive institutions. This state interference in the market,
good or bad, has a profound effect on parts that ripple into the whole of the market. This
relationship in the market is on grand scale, but the social institutional relationship does not always
have to be.
The relationships that we have with particular people also greatly affect how we interact with the
market. Particularly in regards to cultural and societal expectations. When someone goes to
college they are expected to get a MacBook for school from their family as a parting gift. When
someone gets a big promotion they buy a new car or sometimes even a new house to show as a
visible announcement that they have improved their life. Society expects, as one improves their
status, to improve their possessions and interact with the market in more significant ways.
Sometimes though we can be influenced to

The Period Of Ancient Greece
The Hellenistic Age was a period of ancient Greece lasting between 323 B.C after the death of
Alexander the Great and 30 B.C the beginning of the Roman Empire. Alexander was determined to
conquer unknown lands and his expedition provided a bridge between city states and the Greek
Hellenistic World. The Hellenistic World is what resulted from the disintegrated empire that came
short after Alexanders death. Four major Hellenistic kingdoms emerged from the successors of
Alexander. The Greeksand easterners made notable accomplishments during this period of
experiments, novelties and individualism which influenced the Roman culture. The Hellenistic
kingdoms shared much in common with their Greek past. Although they had a democratic form of
government it forced Greeks of the Hellenistic Age to accept monarchy, which they hated. For large
cities such as Seleucid, monarchism suited well. This establishment by Seleucus covered much of
Asia. The city of Pregamum later emerged by freeing itself from Seleucid and was under the Attalid
dynasty. Antigonus established the Antigonid dynasty as ruler of Macedonia, and Ptolemy
established himself as king of Egypt, founding the Ptolemaic dynastyof pharaohs. Not long after the
four major kingdoms were established challenges appeared from internal conflicts and external
enemies. Although they inherited the most lethal military system in the world from Alexander and
Philip, these wars required murderous weapons and machinery. Massive siege

Designing A Model Using Structured Analysis Techniques
At the conclusion of the requirements phase, the team has agreed upon the needs of the business
and what must be required of the new system. The next step in designing and implementing the new
system is determining the processes that will be applied to the data and graphically representing
them in a model using structured analysis techniques. Process models are used to identify and
document the portion of system requirements that relates to data. Processes are the logical rules
that are applied to transform the data into meaningful information. During this phase, data flow
diagrams are required to show how the data will move through the system. The systems data flow

An entity relationship diagram visually describes the objects of the data and their relationship to
one another. Business process diagrams show how data moves through the organization using
processes performed by an individual. Managers, developers, and users then review and approve
the diagrams and documentation generated before proceeding to the next modeling phase. With
the completion of the logical model, a physical model is outlined to portray the actual design of a
database. Physical modeling illustrates the integration of the data requirements that were
recognized during logical modeling into a system structure that will be implemented. A physical
model creates objects using symbols such as tables and columns based on entities and attributes
that were defined during logical modeling. Constraints, such as primary keys, foreign keys and
other unique keys, are defined in this modeling phase. It is crucial to have a well informed,
knowledgeable design team in the development of the physical model. To ensure that all
information system needs are met, physical models are often developed jointly by a team
representing the data administration, database administration, and application development areas
(CA ERwin Data Modeler Methods Guide CA, n.d.). Physical modeling is database specific, which

Presidential System Is Heavily Inclined Towards...
In both of his readings, Lijphart argues (or concludes) that presidential system is heavily inclined
towards majoritarian democracy, which can impede consolidating democratic regime in those
countries that face deep ethnic cleavages. He further argues that parliamentary system and its
consensus politics are much preferred to consolidate democracy in ethnically diversed countries. He
presents several compelling evidence to support his argument by describing the essential features of
presidentialism and how they account for the majoritarian tendency of the presidential system. In
chapter six of his book, Patterns of Democracy, Liphart states that the difference between majority
and consensus democracy is the range and depth of people s participation in the executive branch.
He distinguishes presidential system and parliamentary systemas the former creates one party
majority cabinet where the power is concentrated in the hands of the majority and the latter
produces multiparty coalition where its consensual nature allows broad power sharing within the
executive cabinet.
All these features indicate the strong link between presidential democracy and majoritarianism and
how they can impede democratic consolidation. First, the fact that the president is elected through
majority (or plurality) rule and that the executive power is concentrated to not only one person but
also to one party, creating one party majority cabinet, induce presidential democracy to lean towards

t result in long term weight loss and they are usually not very healthy. In fact, some diets can
actually be dangerous to your health (Family Doctor.org). Fad diets promise excessive and
miraculous weight loss goals, however these dietsare proven by scientific evidence that they do not
promote long lasting results. Instead they are harmful and can promote rapid onset obesity. The
problem being presented here is that America s growing obesity problem directly correlates to
the fad diets. Americans would rather choose the quickest and easiest solution to their weight
issue. Many people who choose these fad diets range from people including: teenages, women of
all ages, and people who binge eat or are on the verge on obesity. The most important way to
identify the cause of this issue and the people who are likely to fall into these fads, is to evaluate
the history behind them, the types of fad diets and the what influences people to turn to them. The
first thing to acknowledge when analyzing fad diets is the history of them, A recorded history of
these diets dates back to 1825.(www.Latimes.com). To begin with, the first celebrity endorsed diet
was the vinegar and water diet. Developed in 1820. However in the 19th century the promotion of
arsenic pills were popular because they claimed to be able to speed up the metabolism.but as you
would guess, ingesting

American Political Party Systems
American Political Party Systems America gained its independence from England in 1776 and for
the first 75 years, it was a rocky, sometimes unstable country. The Revolutionary War, fought from
1775 to 1783, established America as a country to be reckoned with while also setting forth some of
the ideas for the Constitution. The leaders of the Revolution did not approve of nor want political
parties, but those sentiments did not last long. The War of 1812 contributed to the changing
political system in the United Statesof America. For the last 234 years, the American political party
systems have seen quite a few different parties. The original Federalists and Anti Federalist
morphed into the National Republicans or Whigs, Democratic Republicans,... Show more content

from 1793 1820, but the last 20 years were spent as a minor party. Many people perceived the
Federalist Party as favoring the upper class and as a result, they gradually lost the support of the
common man, making it harder to win the votes needed for the Presidency. In addition to the
loss of followers and voters, the Democratic Republican party started to put it s time and energy
into issues that the general population was more concerned with, therefore pulling voters from
the Federalist Party. The War of 1812 was the final straw for the majority of the Federalist Party
and its followers. For most historians, the War of 1812 marked the end of the Federalist Party in
the United States of America. Federalists who had remained active in political affairs became
enraged by the war, which was, in their view, perpetrated against the British by southerners who had
dominated the national government in the Democratic Republican Party. (American History) After
the Federalist Party dissolved, ex Federalists banned together and formed the National Republican
Party, or Whigs. For 20 years, the Whig Party won a few Presidential elections, but disagreement
within the party over slavery started the demise of the Whigs. Northern Whigs were industrialists
who despised slavery, while Southern Wigs were farming slave owners. In 1849, Abraham Lincoln,
a Whigs leader from Illinois, left politics completely. Eventually, Abraham Lincoln ran for

Difference Between Ever Timely And Timeless
Ever Timely and Ever Timeless
Philosophy, mother of all sciences, is one of the oldest disciplines known to man. It is an approach
wherein man tries to address questions about life, existence, truth, knowledge, and so much more. It
is the first attempt to make sense of things we are constantly encountering. Through philosophy, we
are able to produce breakthroughs in different aspects of human thinking.
However, Philosophy does not always propose certainty. A lot of dissertations may propose abstract
ideas regarding particular issues, which would have to be proven through time. It is with that
uncertainty and incompleteness of Philosophy that makes it a timeless discipline requiring
thorough research and endless explorations. It encourages, but more than that, it challenges us to
think beyond our limits and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Democracy is one of the most famous types of government. It is practised by a lot of countries all
over the world. But is it really suitable in maintaining social peace or does it promote recklessness
and deviation?
A human s rationality is what makes it distinguished from other beings. Our ability to think and
process information is a trait exclusive to us. But even though we have made various
breakthroughs in different fields of study and have levelled up in reason, we seem to have lost the
sense of discipline over ourselves.
In a typical democratic state, the people are the priority and it is but right and just for the
government to provide them their independence. But should they really? Nowadays, men abuse
their independence. Democracy allows us to express what we feel, but we forget that this too
should have limits. Men are becoming selfish; only trying to find solutions for their own problems
rather than a solution for the problem of all. We live in a world full chaos, desire, jealousy and
even hatred. A lot of people engage themselves in acts they should not do, their morality slowly

Three Eras Research Paper
The general accepted divisions of our earths are the eon, era, period, epoch, and age, the two
highest levels are the Phanerozoic and Precambrian. The Phanerozoic are made of three types of
era, they are, Cenozoic, Mesozoic, and Paleozoic. The Precambrian is only made up of three era,
they are, Hadean, Archean, and Proterozoic. The first one that came first to start the earthwas the
Precambrian. The Hadean Eon was names from the mythological Hades. This part of the Geologic
time was when there was no earth and when/how it started. In order for a planetto form it takes over
1 million years, so gravity pushed the dust into tiny rocks. The earth had finally formed by the dust
and gas that collided together about 4.5 billion years ago. The

EJAD MI IOD A Woman s Point Of View
EJAD MI IODEA starts with a woman s narration. There are 17 dancers who wear black suits and
stand with chairs behind of them. The stage light is dark and it is quite hard to see the dancers
faces clearly. The dancers are standing with legs opened outwards, and the widths of how much
they open the legs seem the same. However, the dancers heights are not the same. As the female
narrator ends her last statement, the dancers start to slowly sit on the chairs with their legs still
opened outwards, and they put their legs slightly inwards. Starting from the left dancer, they make
a wave to the end of the right dancer. They stand again and sing a song all together. One of the
dancers lies down to the stage with his face down and stands up as other

The Rights Of Fellow American Citizens
The Complacent Majority Students across the United States stand before the American flag
pledging an allegiance to a country that protects every citizen s unalienable rights . Students are
raised to devote their life to a country they are born into by chance. Unknown to them, they are
subject to the laws and regulations of an outside world that boasts freedom, yet imposes a pledge
amongst children. The American government was once a country of dissent and rebellion.
However, as citizens become radical in the midst of chaos, cower in the face of defeat, comply to
a vocal minority, silence their voice in fear of a powerful nation, abuse of power becomes
prevalent, and citizens must practice the most American form of democracy civil... Show more

In fact, most Japanese American s recount this moment in history as a traumatic experience as
they were forced to leave their homes due to an unjust law. Attorney General Biddle as well as
former Secretary of War Henry Stimson, believed there was no reasons for mass evacuation
(Irons 41), and that [Americans] cannot discriminate among [citizens] on the ground of racial
origin (Irons 41). American s are raised to believe the founding fathers had the best interests of
all citizens, and the Constitution and Bill of Rights are guidelines for all branches of government.
In a 6 to 3 Supreme Court ruling against Hirabayashi, a new precedent was set that opposed the
guidelines of law. Although the prosecution had no legal grounds to convict Hirabayashi as anti
Japanese laws conflict with the laws of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Court s historic
malevolence against minorities (Irons 5) tends to rule in favor of injustice. Popular opinion was
that Hirabayashi s conviction was the result of government precautions during wartime. In reality,
radical opinions fueled the fears of Americans who unknowingly sacrificed their freedom for the
illusion of safety. Historic government feats are the basis for modern political ideology. American
democracy was built on the successes of both the Greek and Roman empire along with a socialist
safety net. The

It can be characterized further as a social union between individuals that makes family relationship. HISTORY Bibliographic Resource: Cooke, Bernard J. Alternative Futures for Worship: Christian Marriage Collegeville Minnesota: liturgical press, (1987) 34. Annotation: Cooke traced the history of Christian marriage to the earliest periods of the church s life; Cooke stated that in the earliest periods of the church s life there was no proof for anything that could be called Christian marriage. And that this absence of confirmation demonstrates plainly that separated from the way that two people included were Christian, there was nothing detectable distinctive about Christian marriage, about the way they began, the way they were lived, or the way they ended. The marriages of Christians were not noticeably, not quite the same as alternate marriages in the general public. Christians married as indicated by the examples of whatever society they lived in. The Articles were formed on March 1, 1781, but only lasted to 1789. This new form of government created only one branch of government, the legislative branch (Congress). Under the Articles, Congress held the power to conduct foreign affairs, make treaties, declare war, maintain an army and a navy, coin money, and establish post offices. Historically along with Greece, many other constitutional governments have neglected to obey the constitutional limits that restricted them, trying to illegal increase their power and crushing the rights of the people. • 5. Characters In George Eliot s The Mill On The Floss George Eliot is a verbose writer, and is exceedingly descriptive when it comes to her characters in The Mill on the Floss. Three central characters Eliot paints with an especially detailed and many layered brush are Maggie, Tom, and Mr. Tulliver. Mr. Tulliver is a decently prosperous farmer, the proprietor of Dorlcote Mill, and the father of Maggie and Tom. In the first dialogue of the story, we learn that Mr. Tulliver s desire is to give Tom a good eddication, an eddication as ll be a bread to him... The two years at th academy ud ha done well enough, if I d meant to make a miller and farmer o him, for he s had a fine sight more schoolin nor I ever got: all the learnin my father ever payed for was a bit o birch at one end and the alphabet at th other, (Eliot 9). Mr. Tulliver s uneddicated country speech is certainly a far cry from the exact Eton grammar of the clergyman he employs as Tom s second school master (Eliot 123). The simple and almost comical nature of Mr. Tulliver is further shown through the medium of his own diction. In a conversation with his wife, Mr. Tulliver attempts to use symbolism to illustrate his point that Bessy Tulliver finds fault in things that aren t just the way she d like them. He tells Mrs. Tulliver, you d want me not to hire a good waggoner, cause he d got a mole on his face... No, no, Bessy; I didn t mean justly the mole; I meant it to stand for summat else; but niver mind it s puzzling work, talking is, (Eliot 10). Talking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The amygdala forms part of the limbic system and is a set of neurons that are shown to play a major role in the processing of emotions. The amygdala is a part of the brain that has a direct correlation to depression and oversees evaluating the emotional significance of different kinds of stimuli. For example, the amygdala is overly active in people with depression when you show them sad stimuli, and is under active when shown positive things like rewards. Introduction Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the world, the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down a bit and feel at ease in situations out of their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea that alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm. These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article, Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the disparities of views between those who are 50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The views show that the older group believe that New Zealanders, especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption, however, those in the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink excessively, many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to alcohol consumption. This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further explore how as a society we can change the social norm so excessive drinking is not an issue without stigmatizing a particular segment of society. The brutalities inflicted on African Americans in the 1960 s are highly shocking, but it is the knowledge that citizens are still being murdered by our police that truly hits the hardest. Director Ava DuVernay uses intimate moments and talented actors to adeptly balance the moral lessons inherent to this story with the humanization of the venerated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The film covers a fairly short period of time during the year 1965; during this time period, Dr. King (played by David Oleyowo) was directly... Along with the many physical characteristics that are distinct, it is also known that men and women think differently as well and may have different reasons for their actions. Mary Harris is a researcher and the author of Cholas, Mexican American Girls, and Gangs , within her research she has conducted various interviews with females in gangs. From her research she has came to the conclusion that for girls, Gangmember s behavior is determined by social structures and group culture by defining the perspective and attitude of the girl gang (Harris 301). In other words, Harris is explaining that peer groups, such as gangs, to females tend to have a powerful influence on them by having certain rules, values, and disciplinary actions. As these females further become members they tend to create cooperativeness which then leads them into a feeling of doing anything for the gang and its members. For these girls, violence is conforming behavior shaped by the normative standards of the subculture (Harris 301). Throughout Harris interviews she was able to identify that youth deviance in females is created through the constant conforming behavior that is upheld by the members. The conforming of norms within the gang such as being more violent is very common. The reasons for youth deviance for females in a gang is because of wanting more territory, be in control, and to gain power and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Ida B. Wells Barnett During the American Progressive Era, generally regarded as the late 1800s and early 1900s, many ideals were changing among the American people. During this period, which closely followed the end of the civil war, there was an especially great amount of change in what was considered an appropriate way of conducting oneself, especially if one happened to be a black woman. Ida B. Wells Barnett, an African American activist who was particularly outspoken on the inhumanity and barbarism of public lynching, can be used as an excellent primary source exemplifying how black women in the progressive era felt that they were expected to be presented. As well as identifying the roles and visions of women in this period, Ida B. Wells Barnett is an example of a women who broke many barriers, exceeding the limitations put on her by the social constructs of her raceand gender. During this period in American history there were strong views held by the majority of society about how black women were supposed to conduct themselves. There was a strong patriarchal dominance over black women, with the subordinance of women being greatly influenced by the remnants of slavery. Since men were so fiercely controlled during slavery, often not allowed much contact with their families, and very strict regulations surrounding their sexual relationships with their wives, much of the masculinity of the men seemed to be stripped away by their masters. Using a call bell to meet their needs is perhaps one of a few things that gives patients a feeling that they still have some control. The title of the article Dance of the Call Bells: Using Ethnographyto Evaluate Patient Satisfaction with Quality of Care, suggests that the key phenomenon of the study was the evaluation of patients satisfaction with quality of care they received in terms of their experience in the use of call bells (Deitrick, Bokovoy, Glenn, Panik, 2006). The title did not describe the population, group or community under study, other than stating that the population was patients . The title did not state that phenomenon was also looked at and analyzed through perspectives of family members and staff, nor did it mention that the study was done on a med surgical unit. The abstract of the study clearly and concisely summarized the main features of the report. It stated that the study was conducted as a qualitative, ethnographic research. Then, it briefly described the problems associated with call bells and how these problems affected patients perceptions regarding the quality of care. It explained that the study identified three interrelated themes regarding communication through call bells including answering the call bell, communicating the patient s request to the appropriate health care provider and following through with the ... Analysis Of An Open Letter To Myself The song An Open Letter to Myself, off of the album The Here and Now, by Architects is an exemplary song that undergoes a complementary set of major changes throughout the piece. This song was released in 2011 and it would be classified as somewhere within the hard rock to metal genre. While it is common to note the relationship between the writer, performer, and the listener, in this piece it is particularly important to do so. Without one of these components present, this song would likely not carry the same emotional weight as it does. Moreover, this song carries its meaning through its differentiation from itself. Within the piece, the lyrics shift from originally blaming others to blaming the writer and the intensity of the audio changes from soft to grand to compliment this change. One of the major changes this song makes from the beginning to the end can be noted in the lyrics. The writer, Sam Carter, expresses a sense of multifaceted growth through the piece. In the first verse, the writer brushes off the lack of connection to those around him as something that was common to others around him by utilizing either third person, or first person plural, articles to describe what he did not do. Thus, he believed that he should not be judged for this error. However, in the second verse, Carter turns to explicitly blaming himself for the lack of contact and appreciation of an individual he refers to throughout the song as my so called friend . This ... • 25. The Financial Accounting Standards Board Essay On February 26, 2016, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued an Accounting Standards Update (ASU) which revised the standards on leasing. The intent for this revision was to improve how leases are being reported on the financial statements. The consensus is that the classification tests in current use for making this determination fail to provide a faithful and accurate representation for leasing transactions in general. In 2005, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission had also made recommendations which indicated this need for change in regard to how leases were being reported. Overall, it is believed that this change would ensure greater transparency in the financial statements concerning these type transactions. As commonplace as leasearrangements are, accounting for leases are not quite so clear cut. One of the hotly debated topics for leasing standards that is currently being discussed is how off balance sheet financing presents an erroneous and misleading view of a company s true financial position. This problem began when companies would plan ways to circumvent the rules currently under U.S. GAAP in attempts to classify leases as operating leases when in actuality they were capital leases. An example of this when a company purposely designs the leasing arrangements so that the lease ends at 74% of the asset s estimated life whereas one of the U.S. GAAP criteria for leases directs that it must be a non cancellable lease term that is ... There was no clear winner in sight, and America was desperate for a definitive victory, it was this moment, in this very moment that they finally had one, and they clung to it. This moment was, of course, the Apollo 11 moon landing on the 20th of July, 1969. However, as with many famous events captured in the public eye, it wasn t long before conspiracies began to unfold. Whilst it is often promoted as the solution to many marketing problems, it has some significant disadvantages. However, there are some problems in using Big Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how to address problems, the investment will be wasted but enterprises still search around in the haystack for the needle. Therefore, I will illustrate the problems and find out some solutions for Big Data. Problems Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data, explaining customers desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the businesses are confusing what data they should concentrate on. A recent Gartner report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan or launch a Big Data project, though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To understand what customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies target. The large data volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity. Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS, DAVIS. 2014).This phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies. In both of his readings, Lijphart argues (or concludes) that presidential system is heavily inclined towards majoritarian democracy, which can impede consolidating democratic regime in those countries that face deep ethnic cleavages. He further argues that parliamentary system and its consensus politics are much preferred to consolidate democracy in ethnically diversed countries. He presents several compelling evidence to support his argument by describing the essential features of presidentialism and how they account for the majoritarian tendency of the presidential system. In chapter six of his book, Patterns of Democracy, Liphart states that the difference between majority and consensus democracy is the range and depth of people s participation in the executive branch. He distinguishes presidential system and parliamentary systemas the former creates one party majority cabinet where the power is concentrated in the hands of the majority and the latter produces multiparty coalition where its consensual nature allows broad power sharing within the executive cabinet. All these features indicate the strong link between presidential democracy and majoritarianism and how they can impede democratic consolidation.
