3. A. CURRICULUM DESIGN
1. The school shall offer a four-year secondary
level curriculum based program with
specialization in sports.
2. In addition to athletics and/or swimming
which are the basic sports requirements, the
school shall offer any approved DepEd sports
events (a minimum of 5 individual/dual sports
and three team sports)

120-minute daily time frame and given in three

To be retained in the program, a student shall:

units earned and the student has no
failing grade.

• A gold medal shall be awarded to the most
outstanding student per specialization at the

16. C. Program Management
1. Number of Class Size
•Class size – maximum of 45 students
•There shall be at least two classes for SPS
2.Schedule of classes
•The 2 hours allotted for the specialization
subject shall form part of the curriculum
3.Teacher Load
• The specialization subject is equivalent to 2
loads daily. Hence a teacher/coach shall be
given 2 loads less than the regular load of a
teacher. A class advisory is considered a load.

17. 4.Qualifications to Offer SPS
4.1 A regular high school that has the capacity to
implement and sustain the program.
4.2 The school must have:
• a track record of winning in sports competitions
for the past three years;

18. The standard equipment and facilities of the
selected sports being offered by the school or
there must be a facility within the community
that the school can use, namely:
track and field oval, covered court, basketball
court, volleyball court, swimming pool, football
field, spacious playing area, and sports
equipment.

20. 4.3 Qualified Teachers/Trainer/Coaches in sports and
must possess the following:
• Bachelor’s Degree holder, major in PE/sports
• Satisfactory track record of athletic/sports
participation
• Must have a very satisfactory rating for at least two
school years
• Preferably a winning coach for a year at least in the
division level.
• In the absence of teachers with specialized
experience, trainers may take their place with the
guidance of the SPS teacher. However, they should
have at least one year experience in the sports
concerned. 20
21. 4.4 The SPS Coordinator who is knowledgeable in
sports shall have the following function and duties:
• Recommends experts to the principal to handle
specific sports events in the absence of the teacher-
coach for valid reason;
• Assists the principal in the implementation,
organization, and supervision of the program; and
• Performs other functions as may be assigned by the
principal

22. E. Procedure For The Adoption of The Program
1. The school shall prepare the facilities, equipment,
skilled teachers needed to implement the SPS and
file the application and required documents to the
DO for the approval of the program.
2. The DO shall assess the schools capabilities related
to the guidelines; endorse the application to the RO
for approval; assist in sourcing funds for the
program; undertake progress monitoring relative to
the implementation.
3. The RO shall act on the application upon the DO
recommendation; endorse to the CO; and conduct
monitoring and evaluation
