Teach Vocabulary Analysis
Vocabulary plays a crucial part in a child learning to read. A student that has limited vocabulary often
prevents them from comprehending the text that he or she reads. Students that do not read well often
times read less because they find that reading is tough and frustrating. Since these low level readers do
not read enough their vocabulary does not improve. Unfortunately, as the student continues through
school the gap between good readers and poor readers widens tremendously.
Teaching vocabulary to students is vital to the growth of student s comprehension level. I found by
teaching vocabulary to my students they tend to use the words frequently once they had a concrete
understanding of the word. I also found that if my students could not relate to the word that was being
introduced many times it was harder for them to learn the word. Therefore, it was imperative for me to
always provide a description, explanation and example to all vocabulary words that was introduced. In
the video How to Teach Vocabulary Acquisition ( ), many of the strategies that were introduced to the
viewer such as asking students to restate in their own words, having students create a picture or
symbol for the vocabulary word and allowing students to discuss new words with their peers is
something that I already do in my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Grendel And Beowulf
After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the
character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel
s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals.
While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable
narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with
complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation
required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for.
Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to
come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood.
For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later
contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any
warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d
come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing
back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age.
Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only
physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the
things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during
his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel
starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that
he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own,
something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf

Stereotypes In Modern Family, Glee, And Mean Girls
Imagine being mocked for who you are and singled out on the way you act and dress heterosexuals
face that problem everyday seeing it broadcasted on shows and movies commonly seen in the genre of
drama and comedy. Stereotypes on groups of people affect whether they are true or just a perception.
The gay community is discriminated against and has to overcome stereotypes in the media, as seen in
Modern Family, Glee, and Mean Girls showing how they are struggling to be represented accurately
and positively.
Before the 1960 s gay men weren t shown in films, plays, shows, etc. but the very first time a
homosexual character was aired in a film was in 1962, in the film Advise and Consent (Wood 2007).

relationship between Mitch and Cam are in a stable relationship that are supportive of each other(Lipp

relationship. It may seem that Two gay men as a couple can t raise healthy and happy children stated
by Murray Lipp but in the show the couple adopts a baby and are more than capable of being good

feminine and a stereotypical gay man but they also show a side of him as a farmer, football player, and
continuing his teaching of music. It is important showcasing the contradictions of the stereotypes so it

Particularly because people who are a part of street gangs like this, normally are in the lower class and
feel as though they have something to gain from this. These lower class people would have their own
values and would create conflict against the middle class norms and beliefs of what is right and
wrong. This culture involves being street smart and requires to be tough. Many youth would join street
gangs because they feel as if they are disadvantaged while in school, or may not have an education
opportunity. Being delinquent is a way of dealing with these failures. Some youth grow up in an area
where gangs are a way of life. Being in a gang can be seen as a way to earn money or many other
things that may be needed. Members may feel as if they get better shelter, clothing and overall a better
lifestyle by joining a gang mainly because they feel as if they can depend on other members to provide

The camera had panned back up to the schoolgirls face. As arousing as the sight of her tight, young

Social, Sociology, And Sociology
Social work is centred on people, of all ages, races and class backgrounds to try to make their lives
better. Social workers collaborate with individuals and families to improve outcomes and quality of
life. It is an intense and responsible job and an employee s actions will have consequences, whether
they are good or bad.
Social workers ensure the welfare of vulnerable groups or individuals who need that extra support.
Social work as a subject area includes elements of psychology, law and sociology.
Social policy is the study of various areas of policy, within political or governmental setting, and is
concerned with everything from the welfare state, to social services. Social policy is an academic
study of theory, rather than current policies and draws from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and
economics.

Descriptive Essay On A Day Around My Home
I trudged around my home, memorizing the feeling of the plush velvet carpet between my toes and the
feelings of comfort it provided. Gazing out the window, I fruitlessly attempted to capture the picture
of my serene backyard in my mind, the familiar brown duck floating on the surface of the pool and the
tiny vegetable garden that my mother had nurtured in her best days. I turned away from the window,
unable to endure the sadness. My room had bright yellow walls with burgundy carpets, and although
this combination was not aesthetically sound, it created a quirky atmosphere that I had cherished. The
yellow walls stood as a reminder for my stubborn requests as a 5 year old to paint my bedroom as
bright and happy as the sun, and the burgundy flooring was from my mother s love for anything and
everything that was a shade of red. When we had first moved in five years ago and decided to redo our
carpets, my father had let my mother choose whichever color she wished, and given her history with
all things red, she had undoubtedly covered almost all of our 1600 square foot house with burgundy
carpets. After sitting in my room for a while, I decided to take one last tour around my entire house,
my innocent 9 year old self desperately trying to fight back tears. I was not ready. I was not ready to
say goodbye, for it was in this house that my father had surprised my mother by painting the patio a
brilliant red as an anniversary gift; it was in this house in which our little 3 person family had huddled
around the wood fireplace for warmth when the power went out for three days; and it was in this
house that we had celebrated countless birthdays and holidays, the fondest of memories resting in the
nooks and crannies of this residence. Everything had a story. Everything spoke to me. Every scratch,
dent, and marking had its own anecdote and the walls seemed to sound faint echos of the laughter and
joy that had once enveloped them. But all of this was soon to disappear, and my father and I left the
house, locked the front door for the very last time, and made a long walk down the driveway, trying
not to look back.

Medical Devices Are Needed For Modern Medicine
I. Introduction: Medical devices used generally in hospitals, are the articles used in treating health
related issues e.g., a disease in humans or in animals with the purpose of curing them from the health
problem. These medical devices are needed for modern medicine as they perform many patient
monitoring and management functions. Such medical device is called implantable if it is partially or
totally introduced into the human body or placed on the surface of the body. In recent years,
implantable medical devices have been advanced through developments in science and engineering, as
well as in microelectronics, and biotechnology. Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) are mostly used
to monitor and help treat medical conditions. These include pacemakers, implantable cardiac
defibrillators (ICDs), neuro stimulators and drug delivery systems, which help in managing many
diseases [1] and thus provide substantial improvement in healthcare by saving innumerable lives.
They help to achieve the vision of pervasive healthcare that is used for identification, monitoring, and
treatment of patients. Therefore, these devices have already been deployed in the body of many
patients. The use of IMDs for monitoring is expected to be grown further in the future. In 2005, the
number of insulin pump users was nearly 245,000 and the growing rate that is expected for the insulin
pump market is 9% from 2009 to 2016 [15]. In [16], as reported by Hanna et al., there are 25 million

Panthera Leo Essay
The Panthera Leo, also known as the lion, is a member of the cat family, and shares many common
traits of this family. The lion s body is very muscular, with less bone mass than other animals of
comparable size. This allows the lion to make powerful blows with its forepaws heavy enough to
break a zebra s back. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements quiet enough to sneak up on
prey. Lions walk on their toes, which means they are digitigrade walkers. The claws on the paw grow
as a series of layers. As a layer wears, the layers shed, and a new sharp pointed claw is then exposed.
The lion s body is covered with a brown coat, but sometimes, a white variant that shows up. A mature

As human development increases, more wild lion habitats are being destroyed or used for farming or
ranching livestock. When a lion kills/threatens a farmer or a rancher s livelihood, that individual is
likely to poach or poison the lion in retaliation. Farmers and Ranchers are more likely to kill the lion
to make sure they won t their crops or livestock don t get threatened. Moreover, conservation groups
work with people living in lion territories to educate them about the lion s ecological importance and
develop cheaper ways to protect their subsistence.
In the trophic level, a lion can be classified as second level/tertiary consumer. The lion mainly
consumes the primary level consumer which might be a deer for example for energy. The deer could
ve consumed grass and plants which are producers. The producers are organisms that make their own
food and biomass. In a trophic level, as little as 10 percent of the energy is transferred to the next
level. The other 90% is used for metabolic processes or given off to the environment as heat.
Ecosystems of the lion:
Figure #2: This picture illustrates the wildlife that the lion preys on.
Lions live in many different types of habitat and in many ecosystems. In every place they live, lions,
among with other predators, are at the top of the food chain, and have an important role in the
ecosystem. The lions keep the populations of other animals under control, but in some places, humans

Chemical Attack In Syria
On April 4th, about 86 people were killed in a chemical attack in a town in Syria. While most people
were sleeping warplanes, suspected to be from the Syrian military, dropped bombs full of toxic
chemicals on the rebel filled town, Khan Sheikhoun. The innocent people were exposed to a chemical
nerve agent called Sarin. Sarin causes people to have difficulty breathing because it makes the lungs
heavy and causes blood to slowly fill the lungs. The Syrian President, Bashar al Assad, denies using
any chemical or toxic substance . Syria s close ally, Russia, claims that Syria attacked a terrorist group

The Significance of Nazi Propaganda under Hitler s Rule Essay
The Significance of Nazi Propaganda under Hitler s Rule
The appointment of Adolf Hitler as chancellor of Germany in 1933 should, in theory, have been
nothing more than merely a change of administration. However, from the start of their seizure of
power the Nazis were prepared to apply this power in revolutionary ways. (Fest, 1974, p.373). In the
elections of 1933 that resulted in Hitler s chancellorship, the Nazi party only managed to gain 43.9%
of the vote; yet by 1939 they had the support of the majority of the German population. There has
been much debate during the last fifty years, questioning how Nazism managed not only to have
initially attained their power, but also, how they managed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, underlying all of these arguments is the existence of terror and repression within the regime
which cannot be ignored if attempting to ask why Hitler was able to maintain power from 1933 39.
Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Joseph Goebbels, the head of the newly formed Ministry
of Propaganda, stressed how important it was to centrally control propaganda. He said
It is not enough for people to be more or less reconciled to our regime, to be persuaded to adopt a
neutral attitude toward us; rather we want to work on people until they have capitulated to us, until
they grasp ideologically that what is happening in Germany today not only must be accepted but also
can be accepted. (Lee, 1998, p.33)
According to David Welch, Goebbels attempted to do this through four propaganda themes. Firstly
appeal to national unity and attempt to promote the idea of a people s community
(Volksgemeinschaft); secondly attempt to establish a Führer cult (Führerprinzip); thirdly, closely
linked with the idea of a people s community was the idea of a need to establish racial purity, and
finally propaganda would be used to direct hatred towards the Jews and the Bolsheviks (The Third
Reich Politics and Propaganda, 1995, p.52). Whilst all of these aims have a significant part to play

Sheep Are A Very Docile Animal
Goats are a very docile animal that, will do what is asked by those who treat them friendly. They love
being petted and will stand for long periods of time if petted or feed. According to Margi Sirois in her

Restraint techniques
Goats are topically easy to restrain and can be restrained in multiple different ways. Most can be tied
to a solid object with just a halter or a collar with lead. When having them tied up it is always good to
give them some grain to distract them from what all is happening. Being tied this way makes
procedures like vaccinations, blood collecting, and hoof trimming easy to do. Minimum effort is
needed to restrain goats, using the least amount possible will make both parties easy to withstand.
Dairy goats are easily restrained in stanchions and will enjoy being in the stanchion if trained young.
If tying the goat up there are other ways to restrain the goat, if there is a wall or fence nearby that is all
that is needed to restrain the goat. Push the goat s body against the way with the someone s hips,
leaving hands. Placing the goat in the corner with your arm around the neck to keep it still, can make
the goat completely restrained. Restraining the goat this way makes getting the pulse, temperature, and
respiratory rates easy to do. These are only a few different ways to restrain a goat easily, standing up.

Lord Of The Sinner By J. M. Bradbury
In regards to the concepts of desire and pleasure Laura Esquivel said, Each of us is born with a box of
matches inside us, but we can t strike them all by ourselves. Desire for pleasure is hard wired into
human nature, and people will do whatever they can to acquire it. One strong desire of pleasure is that
which involves the human body and all the pleasures it has to offer. That desire however, exists on a
thin border one that if crossed enters the realm of lust. It is a realm of carnal sin that paves the road to
harsh and unrelenting punishment for all who follow it. Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee, demonstrates lust
and the punishment that comes with it through several events befalling Byronic protagonist David
Lurie. Given the horrifying assault scene of Disgrace, Coetzee is alluding to the second circle of hell
in Dante s Inferno and the punishment for the sin of lust. The first allusion to hell s second circle in
Disgrace s rape and battery scene is the entrapment of the sinner. After being knocked unconscious by
his assailants, David wakes to find himself in the bathroom of his daughter s ranch house. After
recovering slightly and attempting to exit the room, he was placed in David finds himself trapped: He
tries to kick at the door, but he is not himself, and the space too cramped anyway, the door too old and
solid (Coetzee 94). Despite any effort David could attempt in his situation, he finds himself at the
mercy of his surroundings. Similar notions can be said for

a, New Mexico, and Illinois.9 It is further estimated that, on average, gang members in the United
States commit approximately 50% of total violent crimes, while some states and jurisdictions report
much larger percentages.10 California and Illinois, who rank closely with Idaho, report that gang
members commit approximately 90% of violent crimes in their states.11 These violent crimes include
assault, extortion, home invasions, drug trafficking, homicide, weapons trafficking, intimidation,
shootings, etc.12 Other crimes routinely committed by gang members include vandalism, graffiti,
personal drug possession, petty theft, and simple assault.13 Law enforcement is also beginning to
report a recent evolution in criminal gang activity from traditional gang crimes to alien smuggling,
human trafficking, prostitution, and even white collar crimes.14
Idaho law enforcement emphasizes that the majority of gang related crimes in Idaho come from local,
neighborhood based gangs,15 which pose the greatest threat to communities according to the national
gang threat assessment greater than national level street gangs, prison gangs, and outlaw motorcycle
gangs.16 Idaho has a gang task force, known as the Treasure
Valley Metro Gang Taskforce, to help tackle the gang violence problem in the Boise area, known as
Treasure Valley.17 While gang related drive by shootings have become common in Treasure
Valley, it is estimated that communities outside that geographical area are only

Legally Blonde And Trifles Summary
Kelly Marsh s Written analysis over Legally Blonde, and Trifles is a highly likely outcome for many
reasons. Some of these reasons being, she is fair to both sides, has quotes and evidence to support her
claim, and lastly being the detail she brings her evidence to you in. Kelly Marsh goes to great lengths
to give both Legally Blonde And Trifles a fair evaluation. The does this quite well by being extremely
fair to both sides. She often uses quotes to give a accurate comparison of the two stories and also how
to relate them back to each other. Like when she s talking about in her evaluation that it is not always
about the mean. Such as when Vivian and Elle are talking, and as Marsh quotes Elle saying, No, It s a
smart people thing (203).

Against the Gods the Remarkable Story of Risk by Peter L....
AGAINST THE GODS The Remarkable Story of Risk By Peter L. Bernstein I have to admit I was
pleasantly surprised by Against the Gods. I expected this book to be a typical dry book on a given
financial subject, detailing use, application, and theory. I completely took for granted the fact that
math, particularly risk, has history. The author did a fantastic job of painting a picture and explaining
how, why and when concepts we use today came into being. While reading this book I became excited
about risk and statistical analysis. The author is Peter L. Bernstein graduate of Harvard, economist,
educator, and historian. He lived from January 1919 to June 2009. Bernstein is best remembered for
his contributions in investment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a very profound and eye opening moment for me to see how the author tied communism to the
deliberate exclusion of risk. Any manipulation or attempt to hide risk changes the outcome and
outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in the Soviet Union when their government tried to exercise
control by pushing the concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a complete stifling of
social and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what Bernstein said earlier in the
book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great philosophers and were on the cusp of
discovering risk, no great inventions or discoveries in math or science happened in their time. Another
thing I liked about the book was in certain areas the discussion tied back to what I am currently
working with on our StockTrak assignment specifically, the topes of options and dividends. Bernstein
told the story of how in 1973 Fischer Black and Myron Scholes created an options pricing model and
tried to have their work published. Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor
Scholes had advanced degrees, their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing and
liabilities. With relation to dividends Bernstein explained how both investors and corporations would
make more money if instead of paying dividends corporations used that money to repurchase
outstanding shares of stock. In several areas of the book Bernstein

The President Of The Florida Chapter Of Delta Chi Here At...
To the founders of Phi Beta Kappa, My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the President of
the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all made a decision
that would forever change the course of college history at the College of William and Mary and many
other universities nationwide as you created the first American collegiate fraternity. I cannot express
my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the Greek system in a college and university setting.
The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of its members, and it has helped produce some of the
most successful people in our country. I would like to share to you some great news about today s
Greek systems here at the University of Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many
Greek students.
The Greek communities that have risen across the country have created huge impacts on every
university that they have established themselves on. Historically, fraternities were designed for
students to discreetly meet to discuss issues and host debates that their members believed would be
deemed inappropriate by their collegiate faculties. Since their founding, fraternities and sororities have
completely revamped their focuses. They are used as social, professional, and honorary organizations
that promote many different combinations of community service, leadership, and academic success.
The ideas of brotherhood and sisterhood have also transcended the college experience,

Penalizing The Federal Budget Pros And Cons
The federal budget is in crisis and the national debt is growing by the second. In an effort to stabilize
the budget, I propose to cut spending in the areas of reducing troops in Afghanistan, healthcare, tax
expenditures, and social security amongst others. While the premise behind helping others in our
nation and abroad is an honorable idea, we need to find ways to do this while incentivizing people
who work hard, rather than penalizing them. According to the New York Times, troops in Afghanistan
are still heavily reliant on their American counterparts for training, technological resources and
intelligence (Mazetti Shear). While it may be necessary for American troops to be present in an effort
to gain intelligence and stabilize activity in the area, we are not there to build their nation. America
needs to reduce the number of troops in harms way and reduce the spending for another nation,
especially when our budget doesn t allow for such luxuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The subsidies created by the government have good intentions, and some people are deserving. People
are at risk to lose their current health care coverage due to companies finding it cheaper to pay the
penalty tax or their private plans do not meet the essential health benefits. Americans are taxed more
for Medicare if they are over a certain income threshold and those without insurance who choose not
to purchase insurance will also be taxed. Short term costs will raise due to the increase in preventive
care measures. However, even when the healthcare reform is fully implemented, it is anticipated that
31 million Americans will still be without coverage

The Importance Of Historical Aspects Of Death And Dying
The Importance of Historical Aspects of Death and Dying for Nurses The field of nursing has always
been one with constant evolution. From the early days on the battlefields, farms and homes to current
events that occur in the hospital, nursing has always had challenges to face. Death and dying, in
particular, has evolved from private settings to publicly passing away in a hospital or nursing home.
This paper will focus on defining and discussing the historical aspects of death and dying, presenting
the current functions and roles of the hospice nurse, why it is important for nurses to know this
valuable information and how this knowledge shapes the future of nursing.
Past History of Nursing and Definitions It is necessary to define and discuss the history, in particular,
the American experience of dying and death. The United States (US) has not always had hospitals for
which the ill and dying go to be cared for. Prior to the civil war, death was considered a private matter
(Leming Dickinson, 2016). The only indication a person passed away was the tolling of the church
bells or the symbolic gravestone on a family s property. Weatherford (2010) states that the Civil War
and the contributions from Clara Barton, initiated a standard of care as well as a central location for
delivering care. Before hospitals were common in the US, one hundred percent of patient care was
performed at the home or on the battlefield. Wives and mistresses of the soldiers followed the camps

Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during
the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John
Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the
continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan,
transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put
onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247);
however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to
be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey
of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed.
Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of
ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people
the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade,
Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he
chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to
improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear views,

Describe Who I Am An Introvert
Introduction Personality is what makes a person the way they are through thoughts, feelings, and
behaviours; every individual has got their own personality which defines them which in effect creates
dynamism throughout the entire universe (Weiten, 2016). According to Weiten (2016), personality is a
collection of traits that are linked with a person and these personality traits are linked with a person
and these personality traits are behaviours and feelings that are long term and consistent. The essay
will discuss personality traits and the theory best suited to me own personality. The personality I will
discuss is introversion and how agreeableness and conscientiousness relate to me being an introvert.
The essay will also discuss the Jungian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion an introvert is someone who enjoys being by themselves a lot of the time and enjoys
being in their own thoughts. According to Quiet Revolution (2016), an introvert, enjoys socializing or
being in the presence of a small circle of good friends, they prefer placing all their energy on
something they enjoy doing. My favourite things to do as an introvert are; listening to music, being in
my own thoughts, talking to my closest group of friends, being with my family and taking long walks.
The reasons why I say I am an introvert is because I grew up being an only child and I did not have
friends and the main reason for that was because I was too shy to approach people, another reason
why I consider myself to be an introvert is because my dad s side of the family are introverts and I
supress my emotions when I have been disappointed or hurt. According to Sharf (1996), repression is
defence mechanisms proposed by Sigmund Freud and it talks about burying thoughts or feelings in the
unconscious which are too painful. My way of repression is when I was younger my mother was not
always present and as I grew older, I hardly saw my mother and I never understood why until my
father told me the story and it brought back bad memories and it made me realize why I couldn t recall
the times with my mother and

The Syrian Wars
The Syrian Wars were one of the most devastating in the Hellenistic world; they changed the political
and economic landscape of the region permanently in a way that hadn t happened since the conquests
of Alexander. These wars brought about the end of the Pharaohs, they allowed Rome to come and
seize Egypt and Syria, and Parthia to annex what was left of the Seleukid dynasty. The massive impact
these wars had upon the Hellenic world cannot be understated. Egypt would never rise to its former
glory. It would become another province of Rome, later to be held by the Byzantines, and then
Fatimids, where it would not regain true independence until 1922, shaking itself from British colonial
rule. It is a shame that these wars are not given the rigorous study that they deserve. This paper aims
to explore the Syrian Wars in three ways. It will begin with discussing how the death of Alexander the
Great and his inability to form a sustainable bureaucracy and a proper heir set the stage for his
generals to fight each other for his empire. It will focus upon the actions of Ptolemy and his
successors, and their role in the Syrian wars, and how Ptolemaic power declined as the wars raged on.
It will conclude by explaining how the aftermath of these wars lead to the demise of Ptolemaic power,
and their eventual absorption into Rome. Because of the length of the timeline that will be discussed
here (this paper will attempt to describe 200 years of history in under 15 pages), a narrative

Social Comparison Essay On Fast
When we want to evaluate something we really only have one tool to use: Comparison. Even with
empirical, objective, means of measurement, without context, a measurement would mean nothing. Is
your car fast? If you ve only ever driven a Yugo before, you might say it s pretty fast, but if you just
took a ride in a Bugatti Veyron, you might have a new definition of fast. Social Comparison Theory is
the idea that the same way you determine whether your car is fast, is the exact same way you
determine your own attributes.
We are constantly looking to others to evaluate and determine our adequacy. When we look to people
of higher status it is called upward social comparison, when looking at those of lower status it s called
downward social comparison. While social media and celebrity culture provide many opportunities for
people to compare upwards, generally most people prefer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It keeps up with traffic on surface streets, but its fifty years old, and it was built for the highways of
fifty years ago. Driving on today s highways is not exactly the definition of a stress free environment.
But every other month I get to go out with a classic British car club on what we call runs . A line of ten
to thirty classic cars, going on Sunday drives, through the mountains at about fifty miles an hour.
Basically, modern traffic can suck it. But without fail, there is always one guy in a 2002 Jaguar XK8
tagging along with us. I hate that guy. When I have the chance I will pick a point in line as far away
from him as possible, preferably next to a Triumph Spitfire. Why? Because the TR4 and the Spitfire
were sold as his and hers cars, and the Spitfire was hers. This is what downward social comparison
looks like. If I were to drive with the 370 horsepower Jaguar I would be constantly reminded of my
110 horsepower car s inferiority, however next to the 69 horsepower Spitfire I m reminded of its

Batman In The Black Glove
Batman R.I.P characterizes the dramatic rise and fall of Batman at the hand of The Black Glove. This
story is as much an emotional roller coaster for the reader as it is for the Batman. The setting of the
story begins 6 months prior to the events of the book. Batman nearly dies under the treatment of a
psychologist, later revealed to be, Le Bossu, an important member of the Black Glove. with Dr. Hurt,
the leader of The Black Glove, announcing to other members of The Black Glove his plan to destroy
Batman once and for all. While The Black Glove (and Joker) plan their destruction of Batman,
Batman is building a relationship with his new girlfriend Jezabell, who is later revealed as a member
of the Black Glove. He reveals to her the most intimate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is the force that is able to break Batman. Through his disguise as a psychologist, he is able to
condition and break Batman s mind and use the Zur En Arrh persona to destroy him. Le Bossu s
physical description is interesting too. He looks very much like an evil scientist, with the hunched
back, a wide smile, and glasses. This sells the idea that he is smart, but also villainy. Le Bossu,
contributes greatly to establishing the crime ring in Gotham City during Batman s absence. Le Bossu s
confidence in his ability to defeat Batman and how he s able to disguise himself makes him a fearful,
yet adaptive character.
Honor serves as a spiritual character. He is used to represents Bruce s inner consciousness on his

Corruption In Animal Farm
Ted Nugent said, The government is so out of control. It is so bloated and infested with fraud and
deceit and corruption and abuse of power . Throughout history this has been the problem with several
new and lasting governments. People have even written books where the story is an allegory or a
satire for these problems. One of the most well know is Animal Farm by George Orwell. This book
was originally written to show the issues of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, however it is a timeless
book that can be applied to countless revolutions, rise to power, and different government regimes.
The Nazi regime was full of issues, but had a major issue with corruption. Animal Farm can be
applied to the Nazi regime to show the corruption in leadership thought the comparisons of the order,
lies, and violence in each. Both of these regimes had a strong set of rules and a strong sense of order to
keep the people in line. Both believed that the key to keeping strong order was to have the best and
more intellectual people as the leaders. The pigs were the leaders because of their superior knowledge
it was natural that they should assume the leadership (Orwell 35). Animal Farm had the smarter people
be the leaders, however the Nazi party took it a step farther for whom their leaders would be. They
had the idea of a master race or perfect human, which made everyone else inferior. Their goal was to
have the master race rule over everyone. Having stronger and more intellectual

  • 2. Teach Vocabulary Analysis Vocabulary plays a crucial part in a child learning to read. A student that has limited vocabulary often prevents them from comprehending the text that he or she reads. Students that do not read well often times read less because they find that reading is tough and frustrating. Since these low level readers do not read enough their vocabulary does not improve. Unfortunately, as the student continues through school the gap between good readers and poor readers widens tremendously. Teaching vocabulary to students is vital to the growth of student s comprehension level. I found by teaching vocabulary to my students they tend to use the words frequently once they had a concrete understanding of the word. I also found that if my students could not relate to the word that was being introduced many times it was harder for them to learn the word. Therefore, it was imperative for me to always provide a description, explanation and example to all vocabulary words that was introduced. In the video How to Teach Vocabulary Acquisition ( ), many of the strategies that were introduced to the viewer such as asking students to restate in their own words, having students create a picture or symbol for the vocabulary word and allowing students to discuss new words with their peers is something that I already do in my ... • 4. Comparing Grendel And Beowulf After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for. Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood. For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Descriptive Essay On A Day Around My Home I trudged around my home, memorizing the feeling of the plush velvet carpet between my toes and the feelings of comfort it provided. Gazing out the window, I fruitlessly attempted to capture the picture of my serene backyard in my mind, the familiar brown duck floating on the surface of the pool and the tiny vegetable garden that my mother had nurtured in her best days. I turned away from the window, unable to endure the sadness. My room had bright yellow walls with burgundy carpets, and although this combination was not aesthetically sound, it created a quirky atmosphere that I had cherished. The yellow walls stood as a reminder for my stubborn requests as a 5 year old to paint my bedroom as bright and happy as the sun, and the burgundy flooring was from my mother s love for anything and everything that was a shade of red. When we had first moved in five years ago and decided to redo our carpets, my father had let my mother choose whichever color she wished, and given her history with all things red, she had undoubtedly covered almost all of our 1600 square foot house with burgundy carpets. After sitting in my room for a while, I decided to take one last tour around my entire house, my innocent 9 year old self desperately trying to fight back tears. I was not ready. I was not ready to say goodbye, for it was in this house that my father had surprised my mother by painting the patio a brilliant red as an anniversary gift; it was in this house in which our little 3 person family had huddled around the wood fireplace for warmth when the power went out for three days; and it was in this house that we had celebrated countless birthdays and holidays, the fondest of memories resting in the nooks and crannies of this residence. Everything had a story. Everything spoke to me. Every scratch, dent, and marking had its own anecdote and the walls seemed to sound faint echos of the laughter and joy that had once enveloped them. But all of this was soon to disappear, and my father and I left the house, locked the front door for the very last time, and made a long walk down the driveway, trying not to look back. *** 0.5 miles. • 11. Medical Devices Are Needed For Modern Medicine I. Introduction: Medical devices used generally in hospitals, are the articles used in treating health related issues e.g., a disease in humans or in animals with the purpose of curing them from the health problem. These medical devices are needed for modern medicine as they perform many patient monitoring and management functions. Such medical device is called implantable if it is partially or totally introduced into the human body or placed on the surface of the body. In recent years, implantable medical devices have been advanced through developments in science and engineering, as well as in microelectronics, and biotechnology. Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) are mostly used to monitor and help treat medical conditions. These include pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs), neuro stimulators and drug delivery systems, which help in managing many diseases [1] and thus provide substantial improvement in healthcare by saving innumerable lives. They help to achieve the vision of pervasive healthcare that is used for identification, monitoring, and treatment of patients. Therefore, these devices have already been deployed in the body of many patients. The use of IMDs for monitoring is expected to be grown further in the future. • 12. Panthera Leo Essay The Panthera Leo, also known as the lion, is a member of the cat family, and shares many common traits of this family. The lion s body is very muscular, with less bone mass than other animals of comparable size. This allows the lion to make powerful blows with its forepaws heavy enough to break a zebra s back. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements quiet enough to sneak up on prey. Lions walk on their toes, which means they are digitigrade walkers. The claws on the paw grow as a series of layers. As a layer wears, the layers shed, and a new sharp pointed claw is then exposed. The lion s body is covered with a brown coat, but sometimes, a white variant that shows up. Moreover, conservation groups work with people living in lion territories to educate them about the lion s ecological importance and develop cheaper ways to protect their subsistence. The deer could ve consumed grass and plants which are producers. The producers are organisms that make their own food and biomass. While most people were sleeping warplanes, suspected to be from the Syrian military, dropped bombs full of toxic chemicals on the rebel filled town, Khan Sheikhoun. The innocent people were exposed to a chemical nerve agent called Sarin. Sarin causes people to have difficulty breathing because it makes the lungs heavy and causes blood to slowly fill the lungs. The Syrian President, Bashar al Assad, denies using any chemical or toxic substance . The Significance of Nazi Propaganda under Hitler s Rule Essay The Significance of Nazi Propaganda under Hitler s Rule The appointment of Adolf Hitler as chancellor of Germany in 1933 should, in theory, have been nothing more than merely a change of administration. However, from the start of their seizure of power the Nazis were prepared to apply this power in revolutionary ways. (Fest, 1974, p.373). In the elections of 1933 that resulted in Hitler s chancellorship, the Nazi party only managed to gain 43.9% of the vote; yet by 1939 they had the support of the majority of the German population. Moreover, underlying all of these arguments is the existence of terror and repression within the regime which cannot be ignored if attempting to ask why Hitler was able to maintain power from 1933 39. Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Joseph Goebbels, the head of the newly formed Ministry of Propaganda, stressed how important it was to centrally control propaganda. He said It is not enough for people to be more or less reconciled to our regime, to be persuaded to adopt a neutral attitude toward us; rather we want to work on people until they have capitulated to us, until they grasp ideologically that what is happening in Germany today not only must be accepted but also can be accepted. (Lee, 1998, p.33) According to David Welch, Goebbels attempted to do this through four propaganda themes. Firstly appeal to national unity and attempt to promote the idea of a people s community (Volksgemeinschaft); secondly attempt to establish a Führer cult (Führerprinzip); thirdly, closely linked with the idea of a people s community was the idea of a need to establish racial purity, and finally propaganda would be used to direct hatred towards the Jews and the Bolsheviks (The Third Reich Politics and Propaganda, 1995, p.52). • 18. Lord Of The Sinner By J. M. Bradbury In regards to the concepts of desire and pleasure Laura Esquivel said, Each of us is born with a box of matches inside us, but we can t strike them all by ourselves. Desire for pleasure is hard wired into human nature, and people will do whatever they can to acquire it. One strong desire of pleasure is that which involves the human body and all the pleasures it has to offer. That desire however, exists on a thin border one that if crossed enters the realm of lust. It is a realm of carnal sin that paves the road to harsh and unrelenting punishment for all who follow it. Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee, demonstrates lust and the punishment that comes with it through several events befalling Byronic protagonist David Lurie. Given the horrifying assault scene of Disgrace, Coetzee is alluding to the second circle of hell in Dante s Inferno and the punishment for the sin of lust. The first allusion to hell s second circle in Disgrace s rape and battery scene is the entrapment of the sinner. After being knocked unconscious by his assailants, David wakes to find himself in the bathroom of his daughter s ranch house. After recovering slightly and attempting to exit the room, he was placed in David finds himself trapped: He tries to kick at the door, but he is not himself, and the space too cramped anyway, the door too old and solid (Coetzee 94). It was a very profound and eye opening moment for me to see how the author tied communism to the deliberate exclusion of risk. Any manipulation or attempt to hide risk changes the outcome and outlook of a situation. This was evidenced in the Soviet Union when their government tried to exercise control by pushing the concept of risk out of consideration. The end result was a complete stifling of social and economic progress. I personally compare this scenario to what Bernstein said earlier in the book about Greek society. Although the Greeks were great philosophers and were on the cusp of discovering risk, no great inventions or discoveries in math or science happened in their time. Another thing I liked about the book was in certain areas the discussion tied back to what I am currently working with on our StockTrak assignment specifically, the topes of options and dividends. Bernstein told the story of how in 1973 Fischer Black and Myron Scholes created an options pricing model and tried to have their work published. Although their work wasn t accepted because neither Black nor Scholes had advanced degrees, their work went on to become very instrumental in options pricing and liabilities. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to improve as a human. The Syrian Wars The Syrian Wars were one of the most devastating in the Hellenistic world; they changed the political and economic landscape of the region permanently in a way that hadn t happened since the conquests of Alexander. These wars brought about the end of the Pharaohs, they allowed Rome to come and seize Egypt and Syria, and Parthia to annex what was left of the Seleukid dynasty. The massive impact these wars had upon the Hellenic world cannot be understated. Egypt would never rise to its former glory. It would become another province of Rome, later to be held by the Byzantines, and then Fatimids, where it would not regain true independence until 1922, shaking itself from British colonial rule.
