How Did Japanese Occupation from 1941 1945 affect the History of HK
Introduction
The Japanese occupation of Hong Kong commenced on December 25, 1941 after Sir Mark Young, the
Governor of Hong Kong by then, had surrendered the land of Hong Kong to Japan. This surrender
took place after 18 days of aggressive battle between Canadian and British defenders and the
overwhelming Japanese Imperial militaries. Eventually, the occupation continued for 3 years and 8
months. This paper seeks to analyze the implications of the Japanese occupation to the people of Hong
Kong and find how the British Government had reformed the political system, recovered the economy,
and improved the people s living condition after 1945.

After they had dispossessed the merchants and banks of the properties, Japanese authorities
substituted domestic dollars for Japanese army yen; thus, Hong Kong currency was banned. The rate
of exchange was settled at two Hong Kong dollars to one Japanese military yen. After a while, in July
1942, the yen was re prized at 4 Hong Kong dollars to 1 Japanese yen, which implied that native
persons can exchange a smaller amount of military currency than before. The Japanese administration
traded the Hong Kong dollar to facilitate the funding of their wartime economy, whereas the residents
of Hong Kong became poor due to the enforced exchanges. Later in June 1943, yen was the only
lawful tender for formal undertakings. The prices of goods and services for selling had to be in yen.
Yen s progressive depreciation caused a serious price rises and instability, directly impacting the
residents of Hong Kong. In addition, the Japanese yen was afterwards confirmed valueless, and
residents, lacking ownership of their initial Hong Kong dollar, were on the

Pros And Cons Of The American Dream
Can young adults today still fulfill their American Dream? This is something that is being questioned
across the nation and everyone has a different opinion. In America Now edited by Robert Atwan,
Barack Obama and other journalists state their opinion on the American Dream explaining whether it
is still possible today. The American Dream defined as the ideal that every US citizen should have an
equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.
Whether the American Dream is possible or not varies from each person, but in my experience, I
believe it can be accomplished. A vast amount of students are attending college, either a community
college or a four year college, making it possible for them to prosper. A lot of first generation students
are seen across college campuses; I am one of those students. Student aid such as the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid makes it possible for students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds
afford college. Parents and the students do not have to deal with the burden of trying to pay for the full
cost of attendance of college. For this reason, ... college enrollment has been rising since 2007 as well
(Tushnet 354). Students going to college get to choose their field of study. By giving them this ability,
they have more motivation to seek success and work hard towards their goal. As a first generation
student, my American Dream is to graduate from college with a bachelor s

Securing the Quality of Data
2.3 Securing the quality of data
Adopting explicit evaluation criteria increases the transparency of the research and provides the
researcher with the means to highlight the strengths and limitations of that particular research
(Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A., 2008). According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), one of the
reasons that lead to a poor quality research is when a qualitative research is assessed with the help of
evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research and vice versa. Conducting a quantitative
research requires gathering data from a large number of samples whereas in qualitative research,
generally, data is collected from a relatively smaller number of participants and the focus is on
understanding the participants social world in depth through probing, asking questions and case
studies. When conducting a qualitative research, the question shouldn t be How many interviews do I
need to do to get my theory accepted ? According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), by asking
this question, the logic of quantitative acceptability enters into qualitative research. As mentioned
earlier, assessing a qualitative research with the evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research
leads to a poor quality research and vice versa. Instead, when evaluating qualitative research as a good
quality research, the focus should be on the materials obtained from the interviews, quality of the
interviews and the logic through which a researcher makes

Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Millennials Will Save Us All
Millennials may be criticized, but they are a generation like no other. In the article Why Millennials
Will Save Us All, Joel Stein asserts that millennials are a positive force of change. Stein s intent is to
convince his target audience, older generations who perceive millennials as lazy, entitled, selfish and
shallow (28), that they misunderstand millennials. He boldly claims that [millennials are] not a new
species; they ve just mutated to adapt to their environment (31). Stein persuades his audience that
millennials are most certainly a treasure trove of remarkable qualities. He accomplishes this by
switching tones in the middle of the article, using humorous language, and establishing credibility
through his mastery of logos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first half of the article, Stein inserts disapproving evidence about millennial traits, pointing out
how 58% more college students scored higher on a narcissism scale in 2009 than in 1982 (28). Stein
provides these statistics to convince his target audience of his credibility by giving them evidence that
peaks the interest of their judgemental views. After his tone shift, Stein reveals all of his equally valid
data on the positive aspects of millennials. The audience discovers in the second half of the article that
nearly a quarter of DreamWorks 2,200 employees are under 30, and the studio has a 96% retention
rate (32). This supports Stein s claim by using logos to show millennials work ethic, one of their many
redeeming qualities. Since the audience has already accepted Stein s pessimistic evidence earlier in the
article, they are willing to accept his positive evidence as well. In this way, Stein avoids assaulting his
readers with evidence that supports his controversial claim by first easing his audience into his article
with evidence they readily agree with. By the end of his article, Stein has integrated enough logos to
convince his audience of the legitimacy of his claim while balancing out the informal sections of his

Reflection About Suffering
Introduction
Christians know other Christians are prone to suffering. Non Christians I have spoken to believe that
Christians have a happy life. Non believers believe we do not endure suffering simply because in their
reality, God is personified as a genie; Christians can simply pray for what they desire in life; examples
including money, power, wealth, and the Lord will grant those desires immediately. However,
Christians know suffering is inevitable. From a theological standpoint, suffering is defined as: the
experience of physical pain and mental distress. ( suffering ) If individuals were to evaluate suffering
from a Christian perspective, we must realize categories that come with suffering. First, suffering is
the consequence of the flawed nature of creation. Second, suffering is the direct consequence of one s
violation of God s laws. Third, suffering can be good for our faith, and finally suffering is embedded
in truth, Christianity, and within the church. Historical Development
Before looking at the categories which formulate suffering, I would like to look at Christian authors
who agreed with my categories of suffering and who also sparked my inspiration for evaluating
suffering from a believer s viewpoint.
The first author is John Bunyan. His book, The Pilgrim s Progress tells the story of Christian, a
pilgrim who journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The City of Destruction
emulates the world; Celestial City heaven. Christian was

The Effects Of The Indian Removal Act
The Cherokees are nearly all prisoners. They have been dragged from their houses, and encamped at
the forts and military posts, all over the nation (Jones 1838). This is an excerpt from a letter Evan
Jones, a Baptist missionary to the Cherokees, wrote to the Baptist Missionary Magazine. Jones lived
with the Cherokees for forty seven years he even translated the Bible into Cherokee. Although when
President Jackson pushed the Indian Removal Act he claimed it would be beneficial for the indigenous
people Evan Jones painted a much different picture. The Indian Removal Act was signed into effect by
President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, starting a mass migration later referred to as the trail of
tears. The American government compromised their integrity with their self serving reasons for the
Indian Removal Act, coercing signatures on the Treaty of Echota, and the deplorable treatment of
Cherokees upon the Trail of Tears.
The faulty reasoning behind the Indian Removal Act began almost forty years prior to President
Jackson signature and ended with racism and a thirst for gold and land. The Indian Removal Act was
not the first policy in place claiming to remove the Native Americans for their own benefit. It was first
stated by Henry Knox on July 2, 1791, in the Treaty of Holston. Later when Thomas Jefferson became
president in 1801 he began using more aggressive tactics for negotiating with the Native Americans
such as threats, intimidation, and bribery. Jefferson s

Spanish American Colonization
British American and Spanish America were born as a result of European exploration. Starting with
Spain in the 15th and 16th century, European superpowers began sending people to America to claim
lands and grow their mother country s wealth and power. Spanish people came over for wealth and
economic gain, while the British came for wealth, and to escape from persecution. When settled,
Spanish America functioned as a decentralized monarchy, with representatives of the Spanish King in
each colony. In British America, each group of colonies was governed by one of three systems: Royal,
Charter, and Proprietary. Both colonies engaged in slavery and the exploitation of natives and Africans
to work on plantations and mines to produce goods to send back to the mother country. England did
include their colonies in the Transatlantic trade system, however, Spain restricted trade from their
colonies to minimize the power the colonies had. Both of these strategies helped maintain power in the
mother countries because England was gaining wealth from its colonies resources, and Spain kept a
strong hold on its colonies by keeping them economically weak. The original cause of English
immigration to the New World the search for profit from from the lands of America. However, people
later left to escape persecution as they headed to the new land of opportunity. English immigration to
America in the 1600s started with the arrival of the colonists at Jamestown. The immigrants were

The Greek people have many key values such as honour, hospitality, duty and dignity. These values
have been passed down through the generations and even today we can see these values in Australian
Greek families.
Essentially all Greeks belong to the Greek Orthodox religion they attend many religious events and
celebrations and church. Some are devout, firmly following the rituals and procedures of the church.
These are important matters because they have influenced, and shaped their view of life.
The Orthodox Church is incredibly important to Greek history, culture and tradition. When walking,
riding or driving past a church, most Greeks make the sign of the cross. In most Greek homes there is
a small corner or section of the home for icons, with an incense holder and lighted wick orkandili.
Most Greeks baptise their children in the Orthodox Church; marry in the church; celebrate Greek
Easter and Saints days; and hold funeral services in the church.

California and the 14th Chief Justice of the U.S. As the 14th Chief Justice, he was in charge of the
Warren Court, now known as one of the most liberal courts in the history of the U.S. Warren led
landmark decisions like Brown v. Board of Education, Gideon v. Wainwright, Reynolds v. Sims, and
Miranda v. Arizona that strengthened the power of the judicial branch to be in par with the other two

Techniques And Effectiveness For The Treatment Of Insomnia
The Purpose of this paper is to explain and explore the techniques and effectiveness for the treatment
of insomnia. Throughout the millions of years humans have been in existence there have been
numerous disorders, diseases, and epidemics that have affected the way we live our lives. However,
one of the most common disorders has always been insomnia. Everyone at one point in their life has
suffered from a form of insomnia. Whether it was temporary or frequently everyone has been at one
point where the lack of sleep has effected the way they behaved. I think because of these reasons that
everyone needs to know exactly what insomnia is and how effective are the treatments that claim to
fix it. I am a firm believer that insomnia treatment techniques are proven and valid methods to cure
this disorder. However, in order to thoroughly understand the treatments and their effectiveness you
need to know the facts of insomnia. The very definition of Insomnia is the inability to obtain an
adequate amount or quality of sleep. The difficulty can be in falling asleep, remaining asleep, or both.
People with insomnia do not feel refreshed when they wake up. Insomnia is a common symptom
affecting millions of people that may be caused by many conditions, diseases, or circumstances
(Insomnia; Gale, ND). Insomnia is actually broken up into two types. The first is known as short term
insomnia. This is a brief time that may last up to three months and may occur in 15 20% of adults. The

Descriptive Animal Animals
A few years ago, me and my Mom went to a fall exotic animal auction, which took place over by
Pierz. It was mid October sothe mornings had a bite to them and the days were cool. We woke up at
6:00 in the morning so we could get our rabbits, which we were bringing to the auction to sell, settled
in their cages. We had filled each cage with hay the night before so they would be warm for the ride
there and for the time they d be stuck sitting in their cages. After we loaded them up, we headed to the
auction. Once we arrived at the auction, we brought the bunnies over to the people who tagged their
cages and brought them out to the barn to be stacked up next to other cages. The other cages were
filled with exotic birds and some other rabbits. In some of the pens inside the auction barn, they had
pigs, goats, sheep, and emus. The outside pens had a variety of cow breeds like the shaggy highlanders
and brahmas. There were also horses, ponies, alpacas, buffalo, and llamas. We alway arrive early, so
people are still coming in with animals they would be auctioning off that day. My Mom and I went
into the auction barn to see if they had anything interesting out there that we might like to acquire. As
we walked through the barn, we saw some golden pheasants and some peacocks, so my mom wrote
their tag numbers down on her mini notebook that she brought along with her. We also checked out
the rabbits that other people had brought to see if there were any that we were interested in.

Effects of Divorce on Children
Divorce: Effects on Children
Divorce has become an unquestionable remedy for the miserably married. Currently, the United States
has the highest divorce rate in the world. Every year in the US approximately one million children
experience divorce which, is about one in every three children (Amato 21). The effects of divorce can
be tremendously painful for both children and adults. Children of divorce are more likely to suffer
from behavioral, social, academic, and psychological problems than children raised in two parent
families. The actual separation of the family will be the initial crisis that a child must deal with but
many issues such as economic hardship, moving, and other major issues may follow. Sarah
McLanahan, a leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The long term effects of divorce tend to be more adverse than the short term effects.
There are several causes for the long term effects but, children are more likely to develop them if they
are exposed to all or some of the following scenarios; continuous parental fighting, the loss of contact
with a parent following the divorce, little or no discipline, and being forced to takes sides against one
parent or the other.
Many studies show that children of divorce experience a heightened level of marital conflict. Another
long term problem that may effect children of divorce are the loyalty and trust issues that often follow
them into their own relationships. Even as adults, men tend to have a hard time dealing with the
effects of divorce, they often tend to be less involved with their own children much like the non
custodial parent was with them. Many females from single parent families have tendencies to have
children out of wedlock and generally have a negative opinion of their personal relationships. Aside
from relationship issues, children of divorced parents often have significant differences in after high
school education and career choices than children of intact families (Spruijt
897).
Divorce does not have to induce long term problems. The quality and quantity of support that you give
to your child during a divorce will determine how well

The Reliable Narrator In Bartleby The Scrivener
Bartleby the Scrivener is the story of a person who seems to be very displaced in society. He is not
really sure what his purpose is and never really finds his way. Dan McCall focuses most of his critical
work on the narrator, when the story is in fact about the character of Bartley. Dan s critical work may
be further persuading if he focused more of his writing on the actual character of Bartleby, whom the
story is titled after. If The Reliable Narrator could have gone into more detail about how the narrator s
actions related to or affected Bartleby, McCall could have had a much stronger case. Why put so much
focus on the narrator when there are so many questions to be answered about Bartleby. In Bartleby, the

If McCall had put more of a focus on Bartleby and how the narrator influenced Bartleby, his work
may have been more persuasive in getting others to agree with his view of the narrator. McCall writes,
Every virtue I see in the man, they see as a vice; where I see his strength, they see his weakness; what
I see as his genuine responsiveness, they see as his cold self absorption (266). In Bartleby, the reader
gets to see a glimpse into Bartleby and the narrator s relationship. It is clear that the narrator is really
trying to help Bartleby in the end, and if McCall had gone on and elaborated on his points mentioned
above, explaining how he sees these characteristics of the narrator affecting Bartleby, he may have had
a stronger argument. Another section where McCall s argument could be made stronger if he added
how it relates more to Bartleby is when he writes, The Lawyer is constantly trying to use Bartleby s
plight to touch off his own emotions (270). If McCall elaborated on how the lawyer is trying to use
Bartleby s troubles to touch off his own emotions he might have made a more logical argument.

The Disciple Of Jesus By Simon Peter
Simon Peter is undoubtedly the best known disciple of Jesus. But how well known is he, really?
Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself,
Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning rock. This at least was his
nickname in Aramaic the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of the
New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name, Peter. The
name Simon Peter, then, literally means Simon the Rock. Given
Simon s impetuous and unfailingly fickle character during Jesus lifetime, one almost wonders if
Jesus was being ironic.
But back to the previous question: how well do we know Peter from our surviving sources? It is much
to be regretted that there isn t anything like a full biography of him written by any of his peers, even
though a number of ancient accounts narrate what he allegedly said and did, both during Jesus lifetime
and afterward. In his book, The New Testament: A Historical
Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, Bart D. Ehrman stated, One of the difficulties confronting
historians is knowing which of these accounts, if any of them, can be trusted as historically accurate
and which were colored by the legendary impulses prevalent among
Christian storytellers of the first several centuries. Ehrman believes the problem involves not only the
legends found outside the canonical writings of the New Testament

Analysis Of The Novel Night

Night
The novel Night is a vivid representation of a man s loss of faith from the beginning to the end of the
catastrophic era in which this book takes place. As a young boy Elie s inquisitive mind directed him to
the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah s revelations and mysteries. Here is where Moishe
the beadle, a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they would talk for hours about
the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of advice that Moishe told Elie was,
There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the orchard of the mystical truth. This simply
meant he would need to pursue these answers on his own. However, Elie believed Moishe would help
him bind his questions and answers as well, into one. These meetings were interrupted when Moishe
was extracted from the Sighet where he experienced malice.
He then returned to Sighet after being left for dead and managing to escape from the Gestapo. Moishe
witnessed atrocious behavior that affected him profoundly. When he returned, he was not the same
person, the vitality in his eyes had perished. He told everyone what he had seen, but no one would pay
attention to his words. Even after hearing Moishe s words of warning they labeled him mad. Not
convinced of the stories Moishe spoke of, their normal lives kept on. This indicates that the Jews
refused to acknowledge what fate had laid ahead.

The Creek Field Is An Old Accumulation And Is Reaching The...
The Darst Creek Field is an old accumulation and is reaching the end of its primary production phase.
It offers the unique operational constraints of its targets being primarily of carbonate lithology
(limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a chemical or
water flood due to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization. Contained
within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the potential for a
flood in this area.
1 Introduction
Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed
hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen the
largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high permeability
formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the desired
hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of deeper
sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods in other
reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in carbonate
formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in Luling, Texas.
The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate reservoirs to evaluate
both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific

The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis
The Love Song of J, Alfred Prufrock by T.S Eliot is a poem about anxiety. The poem explores the
social and introspective aspects of Prufrock s life as the poem s narrative follows him on a journey
through his city. Eliot uses simile, figurative imagery, free verse, and a first person voice to tell a story
about anxiety. Eliot masterfully uses simile and figurative imagery in The Love Song of J, Alfred
Prufrock. Eliot s use of simile is best found in the poem s famous opening line: Let us go then, you
and I, / When the evening is spread out against the sky / Like a patient etherized upon a table (1,2,3).
Here, Prufrock punctuates his personal invitation to the reader with simile intend to create vivid
images in the mind of the reader. Prufrock s descriptive control of the poem is of subtle but crucial
importance to the poem. Eliot uses figurative imagery in the description of the journey Prufrock and
the reader are undergoing. As the reader steps into Prufrock s world Prufrock uses creative
descriptions to entice the reader : The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes, The
yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window panes, Licked its tongue into the corners of the
evening, Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains. (15,16,17,18) Prufrock animates the fog of the
city as a cat by giving it aspects such as a back, a muzzle, and a tongue. Through this animation of the
city the reader can picture the surroundings as an overarching force that influences Prufrock s thoughts
and actions. The Language devices serve to describe the unique world into which the reader has
entered. Prufrock s descriptions further allow the reader to see the world through his eyes and truly
engage with the poem: The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase, / And when I am formulated,
sprawling on a pin, / When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall (56, 57, 58). Through his
descriptive control of the universe the reader has entered, Prufrock can use elaborate descriptions of
the external world to show his inner thoughts. In this fashion Prufrock shows the reader his underlying
issues with anxiety and loneliness. The style of The Love Song of J, Alfred Prufrock is free verse.

Shiloh Symbolism
One such symbol is the log cabin that Leroy wants to build for Norma Jean. The log cabin is
mentioned continually throughout the story in discussions between Leroy and Norma Jean. At first
glance the log cabin seems to be just an obsession by Leroy s thinkering side (Leroy builds numerous
models during the course of the story such as a B 17 Bomber (p. 804)). However, the log cabin
actually represents Leroy and Norma Jean s marriage. Leroy wants to build the cabin for Norma Jean
while Norma Jean thinks the cabin is a stupid idea. Determinedly, Leroy states that I m going to build
you this house. [. . .] I want to make you a real home. To which Norma Jean replied, I don t want to
live in any log cabin. (p. 808). Leroy clings to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Birds are used in Shiloh to describe a sense of freedom for Norma Jean but a sense of nesting for
Leroy. While Leroy wants to be at home with Norma Jean and settle down in the log cabin, a nest,
Norma Jean wants to be free and fly off like a bird would. Symbolically, the narrator is likening the
main character to birds: It (Leroy s rig) sits in the backyard like a gigantic bird that has flown home to
roost. (p. 804). Leroy s rig is an extension of him and shows that both he and his rig are home to stay
and settle with Norma Jean. However, Norma Jean has a different association with birds. Additionally,
the narrator describes that, She is picking cake crumbs from the cellophane wrapper, like a fussy bird.
(p. 812). Obviously, this relates Norma Jean to a bird in the way she was eating the cake crumbs.
Moreover, Norma Jean is specifically stated as a fussy bird . Norma Jean has finally hit her end and
wants to leave but does not know how to say it to Leroy. Norma Jean seems fussy to Leroy but in
reality she is conflicted internally and ready to move on with her life. While birds are an important
symbol in the story, the graveyard at Shiloh is immensely important as

Muddy Waters Research Paper
In this essay I will be discussing about Muddy Waters and the Chicago blues. Muddy Waters, also
known as McKinley Morganfield which was in fact his actual birth name, was born on April the fourth
1915 and sadly passed away April the thirtieth, 1983. Muddy Waters, was greatly known as an
American blues musician and guitarist. The Chicago blues is a form of blues music in Chicago, I will
be discussing more in detail about the Chicago blues within my essay.
Muddy, grew up in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He was given the name Muddy Waters, because when
he was a child he would always play in the muddy swamps of the rivers in Mississippi. His Father,
Ollie Morganfield worked as a farmer and was also a blues guitar player, however he was separated
from the family after Waters was born. His Mother, Bertha Jones died in 1918 and therefore Muddy
was raised by his grandmother Delia Jones in Clarksdale. Waters first worked as a sharecropper at a
cotton plantation, however he had always found time to entertain people with his music. Waters was
always musically talented. He learned how to play the harmonica when he was just five and as a
teenager he led a band that played at Mississippi Delta clubs. His singing was influenced by the style
of Son House and at 17, Waters self taught himself to play the guitar. ... Show more content on

The Number Of Obese People
The number of obese people in America is growing at a rate of two in every three people being
overweight or obese. Over 68% of American adults are considered overweight or obese. What exactly
is causing this tragically large result? Studies have shown that nutrition, overeating and lack of
exercise are few factors contributing to this. People need to start caring about their health before it s
too late. Embarrassingly, America s love for fattening food isn t a secret. A French traveler said There
is food hypocrisy. Someone will go into a restaurant and not eat the yellow of the eggs because they
think it s unhealthy, but then drink a huge soda . Society is labeled by the food we eat due to the
amount of grease and sugar it contains. Soda is one of the main causes for the large amount of sugar in
American s diets. An industry report has shown that 8.9 billion cases of soda were sold last year. The
food American s eat is terrible but the amount is even worse. Portioning is extremely important to
avoid extra calories that won t be worked off. Using the serving size listed will manage how much you
re consuming. Overeating can double the amount of calories you re eating compared to what your
normal intake should be. Obesity is a high concern with people that over eat. Everyone has heard the
saying You are what you eat , but the meaning might stand for more than what people comprehend.
Your body thrives off of certain vitamin rich foods to receive its nutrients. If it does not

Healthcare Malpractice Case Study
Healthcare Malpractice Medical Malpractice occurs when a healthcare professional provides
substandard care, whether intentional or unintentional, causing injury or damage to a patient. In order
to demonstrate medical malpractice, the plaintiff patient has the responsibility of the burden of proof.
The plaintiff patient must prove a preponderance of evidence, or clear concise evidence of malpractice
by supplying four elements of proof. First the plaintiff must show that the provider owed the patient a
professional duty of care. Next the plaintiff has to demonstrate that the professional duty owed to them
was violated or breached. After that the plaintiff must demonstrate that injury resulted from the said
violation or breach. Finally, the patient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three most common reasons for this are: 1.The employer is responsible for the quality of care at
their facility, 2. The employer earns revenue from the negligent individual and, 3. The employer is
more finically and economically endowed, usually through liability insurance to afford the cost. There
are however a couple of exceptions to vicarious liability. One such exclusion is the intentional
misconduct of one patient toward another patient. In this situation the employer or employee had no
contribution to the situation. Another exceptions that would apply would be in regard to independent
contractors and, or their staff. They are not considered employees of the facility and are generally
responsible for their own conduct, however this does excludes Apparent Agency . Apparent Agency is
a term used to describe the inability of a patient to distinguish the contractor from a regular healthcare
worker of the facility. In this situation, the employer can still be held vicariously liable if there were
no efforts to differentiate them from their own employees. An employer can also be held directly
liable for an employee or contractors conduct under the legal concept of negligent selection and
retention. This happens when the employer should have either ejected the individual for employment,
carried out remediation for deficiencies, or discharged the individual from employment; this creates

Jung
Biography
Carl Gustav Jung was born July 26, 1875, in the small Swiss village of Kessewil. His father was Paul
Jung, a country parson, and his mother was Emilie Preiswerk Jung. He was surrounded by a fairly
well educated extended family, including quite a few clergymen and some eccentrics as well. The
elder Jung started Carl on Latin when he was six years old, beginning a long interest in language and
literature especially ancient literature. Besides most modern western European languages, Jung could
read several ancient ones, including Sanskrit, the language of the original Hindu holy books. Carl was
a rather solitary adolescent, who didn t care much for school, and especially couldn t take competition.
He went to boarding school in Basel, Switzerland, where he found himself the object of a lot of
jealous harassment. He began to use sickness as an excuse, developing an embarrassing tendency to
faint under pressure. Although his first career choice was archeology, he went on to study medicine at
the University of Basel. While working under the famous neurologist Krafft Ebing, he settled on
psychiatry as his career. After graduating, he took a position at the Burghoeltzli Mental Hospital in
Zurich under Eugene Bleuler, an expert on (and the namer of) schizophrenia. In 1903, he married

The Potential Misuse of Genetic Engineering and Cloning
Human s wisdom has not yet caught up to their capability in science and technology. Genetics are
being experimented which could alter human evolution. This technology, genetic alteration, is close to
being used by the public. Cloning is a form of genetic alteration and experimentation. More legislation
should be passed to further restrict genetic experimentation due to the possible misuses of the
technology.
There are many different forms of cloning. There is cloning in nature which helps with farming and
has been around for thousands of year. The cloning of animals and humans is another form. The first
cloned animals were created by Hans Driesch in the late 1800 s. His goal was to prove that genetic
material is not lost during cell division. While testing sea urchins, the results ended up with two
identical sea urchins. There were no major advances in cloning until November of 1951, when Robert
Briggs cloned a frog embryo. We now have the technological advancements to clone a human being.
Nuclear transfer is how most of cloning is done. It is the introduction of the nucleus from a cell into an
egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. This can be accomplished through fusion of the cell to
the egg or through the direct removal of the nucleus from the cell and the subsequent transplantation
of that nucleus into the egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed.
Genetic engineering is not completely a bad thing. Humans and animals are not the only thing that can

Facts About Mexico
Mexico (Estados Unidos Mexicanos), the world s largest Spanish speaking country, is bordered by the
United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. Mexico is about one fifth the
size of the United States, but holds more than 120 million citizens. It is led by Enrique Peña Niet who
was elected to lead the country in 2012. Mexico s capital is Mexico City holding a large 20.4 million
people in the heart of Mexico. (Infoplease)
Mexico s first known society were the Olmecs who arrived in Mexico on the Gulf Coast near what is
now Veracruz. Remembered for the giant head sculptures they carved from native stone, the Olmecs
had two main population centers: San Lorenzo, which flourished from about 1200 to 900 B.C., and La

The constitution of 1824 set up a federal system modeled to a considerable degree on that of the
United States. The present constitution, proclaimed by Venustiano Carranza on February 5th, 1917,
retained the liberal democratic character and much of the structural form of the 1857 document but
was revolutionary in character. It was the first Latin American constitution to recognize that the
solution of essentially nonpolitical problems was necessary for the achievement of orderly and popular
government. Just as that of the United States, Mexico s government has 3 major branches. Executive,
Legislative, and Judicial. In the executive branch, power is invested in the president, who is elected by
direct popular vote for a six year term, but cannot be re elected after his term is up. He must be native
to the country of Mexico, he must be the son of native born Mexicans, and must be at least 35 years
old. The Mexican president is legally and politically a strong executive. In the event of a president s
death, there is no provision for a vice president, so a new election is held for a new president. There
are 19 executive departments to assist the president such as: interior, foreign affairs, defense, navy,
finance, national property, industry and commerce, agriculture, communications and transport, public
works, education, labor and social security, presidency, agrarian reform, health and

A Brief Therapeutic Exercise Period Ensued
There were several different interventions performed aimed at increasing range of motion,
balance/proprioception, and to increase strength of the right lower extremity. Following the initial
examination and evaluation a brief therapeutic exercise period ensued. The gastrocnemius and soleus
were both stretched against a wall each for two sets of 60 seconds to help increase dorsiflexion range
of motion (Radford, Burns, Buchbinder, Landford, Cook, 2006). Active range of motion for
dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion and eversion was performed on a wobble board while seated for
20 repetitions in each directions to increase range of motion, but more importantly to improve
proprioception (Bernier and Perrin, 1998). Plantar flexion strength was addressed by utilizing green
thera tubing around the forefoot with the patient holding the other end of the tube. This was performed
for one set of 20 repetitions. Body weight squats using a railing for support were chosen as they are a
closed kinetic chain exercise that challenges the gluteus muscle group as well as hamstrings while also
causing dorsiflexion of the ankles (Gryzlo SM, Patek RM, Pink M, Perry J, 1994). Closed chain
exercises were started initiated at the first visit as they cause an increase in joint compressive forces
which can lead to increased stability, increased muscle activation, and decreased joint shearing forces
(Harter, 1996). Supine bridges on a 55 cm theraball were performed for 20 repetitions to address the

William Kissinger And American Diplomacy
I hope I came close to what you were looking for, as mentioned before I just started college after 20

definitely without plagiarizing something, definitely not my intention. Hoping I caught enough of the

Developmental Reading and Writing class that starts on the 14th. Looking forward to reading any
ideas and criticism on this paper. This book was very hard for me to read and comprehend the two

The Cuisinart 77 10 is a great quality set for the price you pay. And if you remember to cook with the
pots and pans at a lower temperature, because they will heat up faster, you will avoid a lot of the
complaints of discoloration and some sticking. As one reviewer said:
Now that I have had this set for a few months, I can say it has met all my expectations. Other
reviewers have commented on the difficulty of cleaning it. I had some trouble in the beginning. It was
mostly due to the fact that this set heats up much faster than I was used to and I had to adjust
temperature settings and timings accordingly. Having knowledge of the smoking points of oils is

Climate Change, Human Security and Violent Conflict Essay
Climate change is becoming a focal point for security and conflict research. Research suggests that
violent conflict is affected by climate change and this could become increasingly worse in the future.
Barnett, J., Adger, W. (2007) suggest that climate change undermines human security by reducing the
access to natural resources that sustain people s way of life. Climate change also has the capacity to
undermine states as well by cutting off the states ability to provide opportunities and services that help
maintain life and which help to maintain and build peace in daily life. With access to natural resources
diminishing and the state not being able to provide opportunities and services that help maintain life
and human security this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, it explains that climate change may weaken states ability to provide resources and services to
the people. And finally, it outlines further research that could be conducted on climate change human
security (or the lack of) and violent conflict. It is evident that the climate of the world is changing and
has been since the creation of the earth but over that past decade the change had begun to occur more
rapidly. With this occurrence of climate change is the occurrence of violent conflict among humans. In
most parts of the world the climate change impacts social ecological systems such as temperature, sea
level, and annual precipitation. Other occurrence have just increased in intensity and frequency such
as floods, droughts, storms, cyclones, fires, heat waves, epidemics and hurricanes. Yet these
environmental changes do not undermine human security but they do assist in the use up of the natural
resources that humans need to maintain the normal daily life and most importantly survive. Violence
happens for a number of reasons some to include leaders are able to mobilize groups to do certain
things that cause violence, the loot ability of natural resources and other products and because some
individuals choose to be violent. It is very important to note that climate change will not make
violence nor increase the risk of violence in isolation, it also requires other important social factors.

  • 2. The Impact Of Japanese Occupation From 1941-1945 Affect... How Did Japanese Occupation from 1941 1945 affect the History of HK Introduction The Japanese occupation of Hong Kong commenced on December 25, 1941 after Sir Mark Young, the Governor of Hong Kong by then, had surrendered the land of Hong Kong to Japan. This surrender took place after 18 days of aggressive battle between Canadian and British defenders and the overwhelming Japanese Imperial militaries. Eventually, the occupation continued for 3 years and 8 months. This paper seeks to analyze the implications of the Japanese occupation to the people of Hong Kong and find how the British Government had reformed the political system, recovered the economy, and improved the people s living condition after 1945. Background The 3rd Reich was at its climax of supremacy by the end of 1941. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After they had dispossessed the merchants and banks of the properties, Japanese authorities substituted domestic dollars for Japanese army yen; thus, Hong Kong currency was banned. The rate of exchange was settled at two Hong Kong dollars to one Japanese military yen. After a while, in July 1942, the yen was re prized at 4 Hong Kong dollars to 1 Japanese yen, which implied that native persons can exchange a smaller amount of military currency than before. The Japanese administration traded the Hong Kong dollar to facilitate the funding of their wartime economy, whereas the residents of Hong Kong became poor due to the enforced exchanges. Later in June 1943, yen was the only lawful tender for formal undertakings. The prices of goods and services for selling had to be in yen. Yen s progressive depreciation caused a serious price rises and instability, directly impacting the residents of Hong Kong. In addition, the Japanese yen was afterwards confirmed valueless, and residents, lacking ownership of their initial Hong Kong dollar, were on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Pros And Cons Of The American Dream Can young adults today still fulfill their American Dream? This is something that is being questioned across the nation and everyone has a different opinion. In America Now edited by Robert Atwan, Barack Obama and other journalists state their opinion on the American Dream explaining whether it is still possible today. The American Dream defined as the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. Whether the American Dream is possible or not varies from each person, but in my experience, I believe it can be accomplished. A vast amount of students are attending college, either a community college or a four year college, making it possible for them to prosper. A lot of first generation students are seen across college campuses; I am one of those students. Student aid such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid makes it possible for students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds afford college. Parents and the students do not have to deal with the burden of trying to pay for the full cost of attendance of college. For this reason, ... college enrollment has been rising since 2007 as well (Tushnet 354). Students going to college get to choose their field of study. By giving them this ability, they have more motivation to seek success and work hard towards their goal. • 5. Securing the Quality of Data 2.3 Securing the quality of data Adopting explicit evaluation criteria increases the transparency of the research and provides the researcher with the means to highlight the strengths and limitations of that particular research (Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A., 2008). According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), one of the reasons that lead to a poor quality research is when a qualitative research is assessed with the help of evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research and vice versa. Conducting a quantitative research requires gathering data from a large number of samples whereas in qualitative research, generally, data is collected from a relatively smaller number of participants and the focus is on understanding the participants social world in depth through probing, asking questions and case studies. When conducting a qualitative research, the question shouldn t be How many interviews do I need to do to get my theory accepted ? According to Eriksson, P., Kovalainen, A. (2008), by asking this question, the logic of quantitative acceptability enters into qualitative research. As mentioned earlier, assessing a qualitative research with the evaluation criteria adopted from quantitative research leads to a poor quality research and vice versa. Instead, when evaluating qualitative research as a good quality research, the focus should be on the materials obtained from the interviews, quality of the interviews and the logic through which a researcher makes ... • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Millennials Will Save Us All Millennials may be criticized, but they are a generation like no other. In the article Why Millennials Will Save Us All, Joel Stein asserts that millennials are a positive force of change. Stein s intent is to convince his target audience, older generations who perceive millennials as lazy, entitled, selfish and shallow (28), that they misunderstand millennials. He boldly claims that [millennials are] not a new species; they ve just mutated to adapt to their environment (31). Stein persuades his audience that millennials are most certainly a treasure trove of remarkable qualities. He accomplishes this by switching tones in the middle of the article, using humorous language, and establishing credibility through his mastery of logos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first half of the article, Stein inserts disapproving evidence about millennial traits, pointing out how 58% more college students scored higher on a narcissism scale in 2009 than in 1982 (28). Stein provides these statistics to convince his target audience of his credibility by giving them evidence that peaks the interest of their judgemental views. After his tone shift, Stein reveals all of his equally valid data on the positive aspects of millennials. The audience discovers in the second half of the article that nearly a quarter of DreamWorks 2,200 employees are under 30, and the studio has a 96% retention rate (32). This supports Stein s claim by using logos to show millennials work ethic, one of their many redeeming qualities. Since the audience has already accepted Stein s pessimistic evidence earlier in the article, they are willing to accept his positive evidence as well. In this way, Stein avoids assaulting his readers with evidence that supports his controversial claim by first easing his audience into his article with evidence they readily agree with. By the end of his article, Stein has integrated enough logos to convince his audience of the legitimacy of his claim while balancing out the informal sections of his ... • 7. Reflection About Suffering Introduction Christians know other Christians are prone to suffering. Non Christians I have spoken to believe that Christians have a happy life. Non believers believe we do not endure suffering simply because in their reality, God is personified as a genie; Christians can simply pray for what they desire in life; examples including money, power, wealth, and the Lord will grant those desires immediately. However, Christians know suffering is inevitable. From a theological standpoint, suffering is defined as: the experience of physical pain and mental distress. ( suffering ) If individuals were to evaluate suffering from a Christian perspective, we must realize categories that come with suffering. First, suffering is the consequence of the flawed nature of creation. Second, suffering is the direct consequence of one s violation of God s laws. Third, suffering can be good for our faith, and finally suffering is embedded in truth, Christianity, and within the church. Historical Development Before looking at the categories which formulate suffering, I would like to look at Christian authors who agreed with my categories of suffering and who also sparked my inspiration for evaluating suffering from a believer s viewpoint. The first author is John Bunyan. His book, The Pilgrim s Progress tells the story of Christian, a pilgrim who journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The City of Destruction emulates the world; Celestial City heaven. Christian was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of The Indian Removal Act The Cherokees are nearly all prisoners. They have been dragged from their houses, and encamped at the forts and military posts, all over the nation (Jones 1838). This is an excerpt from a letter Evan Jones, a Baptist missionary to the Cherokees, wrote to the Baptist Missionary Magazine. Jones lived with the Cherokees for forty seven years he even translated the Bible into Cherokee. Although when President Jackson pushed the Indian Removal Act he claimed it would be beneficial for the indigenous people Evan Jones painted a much different picture. The Indian Removal Act was signed into effect by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, starting a mass migration later referred to as the trail of tears. The American government compromised their integrity with their self serving reasons for the Indian Removal Act, coercing signatures on the Treaty of Echota, and the deplorable treatment of Cherokees upon the Trail of Tears. The faulty reasoning behind the Indian Removal Act began almost forty years prior to President Jackson signature and ended with racism and a thirst for gold and land. The Indian Removal Act was not the first policy in place claiming to remove the Native Americans for their own benefit. It was first stated by Henry Knox on July 2, 1791, in the Treaty of Holston. Later when Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801 he began using more aggressive tactics for negotiating with the Native Americans such as threats, intimidation, and bribery. Jefferson s ... • 9. Spanish American Colonization British American and Spanish America were born as a result of European exploration. Starting with Spain in the 15th and 16th century, European superpowers began sending people to America to claim lands and grow their mother country s wealth and power. Spanish people came over for wealth and economic gain, while the British came for wealth, and to escape from persecution. When settled, Spanish America functioned as a decentralized monarchy, with representatives of the Spanish King in each colony. In British America, each group of colonies was governed by one of three systems: Royal, Charter, and Proprietary. Both colonies engaged in slavery and the exploitation of natives and Africans to work on plantations and mines to produce goods to send back to the mother country. England did include their colonies in the Transatlantic trade system, however, Spain restricted trade from their colonies to minimize the power the colonies had. Both of these strategies helped maintain power in the mother countries because England was gaining wealth from its colonies resources, and Spain kept a strong hold on its colonies by keeping them economically weak. The original cause of English immigration to the New World the search for profit from from the lands of America. However, people later left to escape persecution as they headed to the new land of opportunity. English immigration to America in the 1600s started with the arrival of the colonists at Jamestown. Board of Education, Gideon v. Wainwright, Reynolds v. Sims, and Miranda v. Arizona that strengthened the power of the judicial branch to be in par with the other two branches. Warren and his court desegregated public schools and other public sectors, defended the rights of the accused, banned in school prayers, and instated one man one vote rule in voting districts. Warren s dedication in desegregation showed how he succeeded in keeping all segregation cases unanimous. Warren, appointed by Lyndon B. Johnson, headed a panel known as the Warren Commission to investigate President Kennedy s assassination. Furthermore, Warren, during his time in Court, nationalized the Bill of Rights to all states. However, one of the most common disorders has always been insomnia. Everyone at one point in their life has suffered from a form of insomnia. It was mid October sothe mornings had a bite to them and the days were cool. We woke up at 6:00 in the morning so we could get our rabbits, which we were bringing to the auction to sell, settled in their cages. We had filled each cage with hay the night before so they would be warm for the ride there and for the time they d be stuck sitting in their cages. After we loaded them up, we headed to the auction. Once we arrived at the auction, we brought the bunnies over to the people who tagged their cages and brought them out to the barn to be stacked up next to other cages. The other cages were filled with exotic birds and some other rabbits. In some of the pens inside the auction barn, they had pigs, goats, sheep, and emus. The outside pens had a variety of cow breeds like the shaggy highlanders and brahmas. There were also horses, ponies, alpacas, buffalo, and llamas. We alway arrive early, so people are still coming in with animals they would be auctioning off that day. My Mom and I went into the auction barn to see if they had anything interesting out there that we might like to acquire. As we walked through the barn, we saw some golden pheasants and some peacocks, so my mom wrote their tag numbers down on her mini notebook that she brought along with her. Currently, the United States has the highest divorce rate in the world. Every year in the US approximately one million children experience divorce which, is about one in every three children (Amato 21). The effects of divorce can be tremendously painful for both children and adults. Children of divorce are more likely to suffer from behavioral, social, academic, and psychological problems than children raised in two parent families. Many studies show that children of divorce experience a heightened level of marital conflict. Another long term problem that may effect children of divorce are the loyalty and trust issues that often follow them into their own relationships. Even as adults, men tend to have a hard time dealing with the effects of divorce, they often tend to be less involved with their own children much like the non custodial parent was with them. Many females from single parent families have tendencies to have children out of wedlock and generally have a negative opinion of their personal relationships. Aside from relationship issues, children of divorced parents often have significant differences in after high school education and career choices than children of intact families (Spruijt 897). He is not really sure what his purpose is and never really finds his way. Dan McCall focuses most of his critical work on the narrator, when the story is in fact about the character of Bartley. Dan s critical work may be further persuading if he focused more of his writing on the actual character of Bartleby, whom the story is titled after. If The Reliable Narrator could have gone into more detail about how the narrator s actions related to or affected Bartleby, McCall could have had a much stronger case. In Bartleby, the reader gets to see a glimpse into Bartleby and the narrator s relationship. It is clear that the narrator is really trying to help Bartleby in the end, and if McCall had gone on and elaborated on his points mentioned above, explaining how he sees these characteristics of the narrator affecting Bartleby, he may have had a stronger argument. Another section where McCall s argument could be made stronger if he added how it relates more to Bartleby is when he writes, The Lawyer is constantly trying to use Bartleby s plight to touch off his own emotions (270). • 18. The Disciple Of Jesus By Simon Peter Simon Peter is undoubtedly the best known disciple of Jesus. But how well known is he, really? Everyone knows his name, Simon, and his nickname, allegedly given by Jesus himself, Cephas, which in the first century was not a name at all but a noun meaning rock. This at least was his nickname in Aramaic the language that both Jesus and Simon spoke. In Greek, the language of the New Testament, the word for rock is petra, where we get his more commonly known name, Peter. The name Simon Peter, then, literally means Simon the Rock. Given Simon s impetuous and unfailingly fickle character during Jesus lifetime, one almost wonders if Jesus was being ironic. But back to the previous question: how well do we know Peter from our surviving sources? It is much to be regretted that there isn t anything like a full biography of him written by any of his peers, even though a number of ancient accounts narrate what he allegedly said and did, both during Jesus lifetime and afterward. In his book, The New Testament: A Historical Introduction to the Early Christian Writings, Bart D. Ehrman stated, One of the difficulties confronting historians is knowing which of these accounts, if any of them, can be trusted as historically accurate and which were colored by the legendary impulses prevalent among Christian storytellers of the first several centuries. As a young boy Elie s inquisitive mind directed him to the synagogue where he would study the Kabbalah s revelations and mysteries. Here is where Moishe the beadle, a friend to Elie, would sit with him in the synagogue and they would talk for hours about the intriguing secrets of Jewish mysticism. One important piece of advice that Moishe told Elie was, There are a thousand and one gates allowing entry into the orchard of the mystical truth. This simply meant he would need to pursue these answers on his own. However, Elie believed Moishe would help him bind his questions and answers as well, into one. These meetings were interrupted when Moishe was extracted from the Sighet where he experienced malice. He then returned to Sighet after being left for dead and managing to escape from the Gestapo. Moishe witnessed atrocious behavior that affected him profoundly. When he returned, he was not the same person, the vitality in his eyes had perished. He told everyone what he had seen, but no one would pay attention to his words. Even after hearing Moishe s words of warning they labeled him mad. It offers the unique operational constraints of its targets being primarily of carbonate lithology (limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a chemical or water flood due to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization. Contained within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the potential for a flood in this area. 1 Introduction Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen the largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high permeability formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the desired hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of deeper sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods in other reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in carbonate formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in Luling, Texas. The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate reservoirs to evaluate both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific ... • 21. The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis The Love Song of J, Alfred Prufrock by T.S Eliot is a poem about anxiety. The poem explores the social and introspective aspects of Prufrock s life as the poem s narrative follows him on a journey through his city. Eliot uses simile, figurative imagery, free verse, and a first person voice to tell a story about anxiety. Eliot masterfully uses simile and figurative imagery in The Love Song of J, Alfred Prufrock. Eliot s use of simile is best found in the poem s famous opening line: Let us go then, you and I, / When the evening is spread out against the sky / Like a patient etherized upon a table (1,2,3). Here, Prufrock punctuates his personal invitation to the reader with simile intend to create vivid images in the mind of the reader. Prufrock s descriptive control of the poem is of subtle but crucial importance to the poem. Eliot uses figurative imagery in the description of the journey Prufrock and the reader are undergoing. As the reader steps into Prufrock s world Prufrock uses creative descriptions to entice the reader : The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes, The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window panes, Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening, Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains. (15,16,17,18) Prufrock animates the fog of the city as a cat by giving it aspects such as a back, a muzzle, and a tongue. Through this animation of the city the reader can picture the surroundings as an overarching force that influences Prufrock s thoughts and actions. The Language devices serve to describe the unique world into which the reader has entered. Prufrock s descriptions further allow the reader to see the world through his eyes and truly engage with the poem: The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase, / And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, / When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall (56, 57, 58). Through his descriptive control of the universe the reader has entered, Prufrock can use elaborate descriptions of the external world to show his inner thoughts. In this fashion Prufrock shows the reader his underlying issues with anxiety and loneliness. The style of The Love Song of J, Alfred Prufrock is free verse. While Eliot will occasionally ... Genetics are being experimented which could alter human evolution. This technology, genetic alteration, is close to being used by the public. Cloning is a form of genetic alteration and experimentation. More legislation should be passed to further restrict genetic experimentation due to the possible misuses of the technology. There are many different forms of cloning. There is cloning in nature which helps with farming and has been around for thousands of year. The cloning of animals and humans is another form. The first cloned animals were created by Hans Driesch in the late 1800 s. His goal was to prove that genetic material is not lost during cell division. While testing sea urchins, the results ended up with two identical sea urchins. There were no major advances in cloning until November of 1951, when Robert Briggs cloned a frog embryo. We now have the technological advancements to clone a human being. Nuclear transfer is how most of cloning is done. It is the introduction of the nucleus from a cell into an egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. This can be accomplished through fusion of the cell to the egg or through the direct removal of the nucleus from the cell and the subsequent transplantation of that nucleus into the egg cell that has had its own nucleus removed. A Brief Therapeutic Exercise Period Ensued There were several different interventions performed aimed at increasing range of motion, balance/proprioception, and to increase strength of the right lower extremity. Following the initial examination and evaluation a brief therapeutic exercise period ensued. The gastrocnemius and soleus were both stretched against a wall each for two sets of 60 seconds to help increase dorsiflexion range of motion (Radford, Burns, Buchbinder, Landford, Cook, 2006). Active range of motion for dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion and eversion was performed on a wobble board while seated for 20 repetitions in each directions to increase range of motion, but more importantly to improve proprioception (Bernier and Perrin, 1998). Plantar flexion strength was addressed by utilizing green thera tubing around the forefoot with the patient holding the other end of the tube. This was performed for one set of 20 repetitions. Body weight squats using a railing for support were chosen as they are a closed kinetic chain exercise that challenges the gluteus muscle group as well as hamstrings while also causing dorsiflexion of the ankles (Gryzlo SM, Patek RM, Pink M, Perry J, 1994). Closed chain exercises were started initiated at the first visit as they cause an increase in joint compressive forces which can lead to increased stability, increased muscle activation, and decreased joint shearing forces (Harter, 1996).
