Examples of monograph
Sodium citrate
It is used as an Anticoagulant for whole blood
(as it chelates serum calcium)
Citrate are used to chelate other cations also
e.g., in benedicts solution it chelates Cu2+ . It is used as a buffering
agent and as a urine alkanizer. In combination with citric acid it can be
used to prevent gout and kidney stones.
It is prepared by reaction of sodium carbonate and citric acid.
Assay: Non aqueous titration using, 0.1N HClO4 as titrant and
1-naphtholbenzene solution as an indicator.
