The Discovery, Structure, Metabolic Processes, Regulation...
ABSTRACT
Upon discovery of photosynthesis and the pathways that the molecules took during this process,
chloroplasts were soon uncovered. Scientists have taken a keen interest in chloroplasts since their
discovery. This review article will explore the discovery, structure, metabolic processes, regulation
and the genome of the chloroplast. Chloroplast are not only vital in providing food for plant life,
they are essential regulating and producing molecules for the cell. Once thought to function on their
own chloroplast have their own DNA and many unique characterizes. While much has been
discovered about the chloroplast there are still many unanswered questions and useful applications
for these tiny organelles. INTRODUCTION
Chloroplasts are very interesting organelles, thought to have once been independently functioning
cells. It is believed that they were once cyanobacteria floating around in the primordial soup. These
bacteria underwent respiration on their own in the absence of molecular oxygen until the ozone
layer was formed and oxygen gas could exist on earth. Once this occurred, eukaryotic organisms
started to flourish and they engulfed the bacteria. Once the bacteria were engulfed these prokaryotic
organisms over time with evolution became what we now know today as the chloroplast.
Chloroplast today are organelles within cells that have double membranes. They function in the
plant to not only capture light from the sun and turn it into carbohydrates for the plant

Persuasive Essay On Body Cameras
There is an argument that police officers are getting out of hand with handling arrest. The most
recent solution to the problem is having every policeman have a body camera, in order to make
the police officer feel as if their every movement is being watched. Recently, there has been
discussion if police officers using body cameras is a Liberty Issues and that it gives the police force
way too much unchecked power. Some citizens believe that body cameras leads into privacy issues
(4th Amendment), violation of civil rights (1st Amendment), and may give too much power to the
government (Limited Government via James Madison).
Body cameras come in all shapes and sizes. There are many commercial businesses in the United
States that already use body cameras for private industry work. According to Jay Stanley a body
camera are, small, pager sized cameras that clip on to an officer s uniform or sunglasses or are
worn as a headset, and record audio and video of the officer s interactions with the public (Stanley).
There are a lot of pro and cons when looking at body cameras through a Privacy Issue lens.
According to the study of PhD Barak Ariel, a professor at Hebrew University s Institute of
Criminology, If body worn cameras become common practice, it means more electronic surveillance
, more digitized tagging of individuals, and more challenges to privacy rights (Ariel). For most
privacy issues, the 4th Amendment seems to outline to most basic principles to privacy

Importance of Control in Business Organizations.

organizations. * Define control
Management process in which the (1) actual performance is compared with planned performance,

and (4) corrective action is taken to eliminate or minimize the difference
Control Process
The control process is a continuous flow in Taj between measuring, comparing and action. Naturally
Taj follows the four steps in the control process: establishing performance standards, measuring
actual performance, comparing measured performance against established standards, and taking
corrective action.

Step 2: Measure Actual Performance. Supervisors collect data to measure actual performance to
determine variation from standard. Written data might include time cards, production tallies,
inspection reports, and sales tickets. Personal observation, statistical reports, oral reports and
written reports can be used to measure performance. Management by walking around, or
observation of employees working, provides unfiltered information, extensive coverage, and the
ability to read between the lines. While providing insight, this method might be misinterpreted by
employees as mistrust. Oral reports allow for fast and extensive feedback.
In Taj computers give supervisors direct access to real time, unaltered data, and information. On
line systems enable supervisors to identify problems as they occur. Database programs allow
supervisors to query, spend less time gathering facts, and be less dependent on other people.
Supervisors have access to information at their fingertips. Employees can supply progress reports
through the use of networks and electronic mail. Statistical reports are easy to visualize and
effective at demonstrating relationships. Written reports provide comprehensive feedback that can
be easily filed and referenced. Computers are important tools for measuring performance. In fact,

Meat And Lard Research Paper
Pigs have really been divided into two major groups: Meat and Lard. The meat type pigs are also
known as bacon types, they were developed to have more lean meat with moderate marbling of
fat. On the other hand lard type pigs were developed to hard large deposits of fat so that the
animals could be butchered into large chunks a bit easier. Modern swine production has focused
prominently on developing pigs that grow fast and produce a very lean, light colored meat. Older
heritage breeds are raised for niche markets because they have more fat and grow much slower,
however they are more efficient on pasture than commercial hogs. Producers of the heritage or
older breeds believe that the meat and lard are much more flavorful and nutrient dense when
raised on pasture at a slower rate, that is just preference. The majority of commercially raised
hogs are going to be a hybrid. The mother is a maternal breed which is usually white and the father
or sire is usually a terminal breed. A maternal breed that was... Show more content on

These pigs are starting to become threatened or endangered of becoming extinct. They were once
more prominent, but due to the shift from small farms to industrial farms they are not very
prominent. These breeds do not do well in confinement, thus they are not popular. The five
breeds that I listed are only a few of the heritage breeds, but they are rather docile breeds. They
make great backyard hogs. They take a bit longer than commercial pigs to grow, but they have the
ability to forage for food and they are all excellent mothers. I believe that it is very important to
maintain the heritage hog populations as they have some great genetic lines and many consumers
are partial to the slower growing pigs which make for a niche market. I understand that the
maintenance of these breeds requires much time and effort but it would be a tragedy to lose

Essay on The Epic of Gilgamesh
In the ancient Mesopotamian world, the realm of civilization was viewed to be highly illustrious.
At the same time, this state of advancement of great antiquity was also an attribute of divinity. The
elements of civilization were intimately associated to the highly esteemed divine mediation.
Despite the prominent theology culture in The Epic of Gilgamesh, divine intervention is not the
only element that could transform the crude heroic figures into sagacious men. Strength and power
are definitely not the only possessions that could advance one in life even though they clearly
distinguish the heroes from ordinary men. It is rather, more significantly, the process of
internalization. No civilization emerges directly and independently it is... Show more content on

Even though the King of Uruk is expected to be highly civilized, ironically he does not appear to
be so. Overwhelmed with ego, arrogance and complete misuse of power, Gilgamesh has condemned
civilization insofar his existence. He thwarts his humanity by emphasizing his strength and
power in order to be more successful, forsaking the well being of his people. Hearing the laments
and cries of the people of Uruk, the gods then create Enkidu as a match for Gilgamesh. For
Enkidu is a divine creation, with [a] virtue in him like the god of war Ninurta, long waved hair
of the goddess of corn Nisaba, and body of matted hair like the god of cattle Samuqan (Sandars
63), one would have expected him to be a lesson to Gilgamesh. However, the creation of Enkidu
does not really answer the people s grieving as an equal who can contend with Gilgamesh together
and keep him busy from all his iniquities (Sandars 62). Enkidu can never be Gilgamesh s match as
he is created completely human while Gilgamesh two third divine.
This strategy, in fact, works in a different manner whereby Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh the real
significance of being a human. This shows a fascinating twist as Gilgamesh s intention to tame
Enkidu by sending him a prostitute instead mirrors his taming by Enkidu. It is because Enkidu s
indulgence in sex with the prostitute for six days and seven nights that

Homework in Moderation is Good Essays
Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing?
Homework has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth
century. At first, homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people
enjoyed that learning could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in
the forties, Professor H. J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homeworkdoes not result in sufficiently
improved academic accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the
United States feared that Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to
be unnecessary to complete. This incident has partially shaped our nation to... Show more content

In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used
because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can
be improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that
homework has on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections:
immediate achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and
greater parental appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains
that one s learning can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better
critical thinking, greater concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and
better retention of factual knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term
academic benefits, homework allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an
improved attitude toward school can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish
homework can classwork in more efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered
one of the more important ones because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of
an academic enthusiast, but also for others, who do not focus on studying academic related
subjects. For instance, according to Cooper s studies, he has found that self direction,

Compassion Case Study Essay
I have to say, I honestly struggled this week when brainstorming who to use for a case study. As
I thought long and hard, over a couple days, I was still at a loss. That is until I was at work and it
finally struck me; my senses and perception are vital to my job. Our senses and perceptions are a
part of everyday life that, at times, we take for granted. It isn t until we lose or are limited in the
functionality of one or more of our sensethat we realize how important and vital they are.

Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay
Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas)
Introduction
Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that
of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover,
structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental
enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing
environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology
of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure
(Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that
environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment,
sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since,
some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of
fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead
Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer.
The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P.
promelas.
Background
Fat Head minnows can survive in a variety of environments such as creeks, headwaters, rivers,
lakes, and

The Empire Of The Ottoman Empire
Three of the greatest empire in the history the ottomans in turkey, the Safavids in Persia and the
Mughals in the Indian subcontinent emerged in the Muslim world between the 14th and the 18th
centuries. These three greatest empire resulted in a powerful cultural interaction. The empires
expanded their power and thus Turkish, Mongol and Arab ways of life blended. It resulted in a
flowering of Islamic culture that raised higher in the 16th centuries. The empires ruled through
Islamic Sariah s. They based the authority on Islam. Their basement of power were strong armies,
advanced technology and legal administrative officers. The Ottomans Build a Vast Empire The
ottomans established a vast empire that lasted for a long time, more than 600 years and blended
many cultures in one. The empire s history is still important as many modern societies, from
Algeria to Turkey, originated from the Ottomans rule. Setting the Stage By 1300, the Byzantine
Empire was declining. The nomadic Turks were invading the lands. They had a long history of
invading others. But they were not united. From this place, a strong leader will emerge in and rule
the empire strongly. Turks Move into Byzantium Many Anatolian Turks, to be seen as Ghazi s
(warriors of Islam), formed military societies under the leadership of an emir. They used to follow
Islamic code of conduct. They raided the territories on the frontiers of Byzantine Empire. Byzantine

who are not affiliated religiously are influenced by decisions on matters of morality as well as
law, which has basis in religion. The case of Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights

future of these types of interactions. The court will most likely respond with a 5 4 decision in favor
of Masterpiece Cakeshop. As with the conservative justices, most will likely support that of
Masterpiece Cakeshop. Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice Samuel Alito, and the
newly appointed Associate Justice Neil Goursch would most likely choose to support the freedom
of religion and the right to refuse service, most likely quoting Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, as
they tend to stay on the conservative side of the argument. Whereas Associate Justice Ruth Bader
Ginsberg, Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, Associate Justice Elena Kagan, and Associate Justice
Sonia Sotomayor would most likely stick with the argument that this is discrimination of gay
Americans, most likely quoting Employment Division, Department of Human Resources of Oregon

The Consequences Of Prison Recidivism
Improving Prison Reentry and Reducing Recidivism
Recidivism is a social problem that continues year after year. The National Institute of Justice
claims that this is one of the most fundamental concepts in criminal justice. They also provide
some statistic. Within three years of release, about two thirds (67.8 percent) of released prisoners
were rearrested. Within five years of release, about three quarters (76.6 percent) of released
prisoners were rearrested. Of those prisoners who were rearrested, more than half (56.7 percent)
were arrested by the end of the first year. Recidivism is the act of an individual continuing a bad

This title alone may cause individuals to be over looked for jobs they are qualified for. To help
solve this problem he suggests something called Second Chance Legislation. Based on the nature
of the crime, evidence supports that if an individual has not reoffended or recommitted a crime,
enough time has passed for an individual to learn from there mistake and if they have not commit
a crime will not due so. Heroux suggests expunging their criminal record as if it never happened at
all. There are other things to consider when discussing recidivism. Yes, it s important to note how
the issue can be solved, but it s also important to note why it is happening so often.
Many individuals who have been incarcerated face an addiction, or a mental health issue this
addition could be to intoxicants such as drugs and alcohol, but as mentioned it could also be a
mental health issue. These individuals face stigmas in the community and as a result may not

joint) disorders, bring on mysterious headaches, and cause facial pain. Many people who have
trouble with bruxism do not even realize they are grinding their teeth. Some people grind their
teeth at night when they are asleep. Those who clench or grind their teeth during the day often do
so when they feel anxious. In fact, one of the common causes of bruxism is stress. Other factors,
such as misaligned teeth or an improper bite, can also create discomfort. Less common causes of

Also, Dr. Thomas Peltzer can examine your teeth for signs of unusual wear, check the muscles
around your jaw, and ask specific questions about your behavior and medical history to
determine if bruxism is a problem for you. Some other signs to watch for include rhythmic
contractions of the jaw muscles, morning headaches or jaw pain, teeth that feel loose, and
unexplained facial soreness or pain. How Can I Prevent Bruxism? If your teeth grinding or
clenching is related to stress, you may want to seek counseling, exercise, or try relaxation
techniques. Cutting out tobacco and decreasing alcohol and caffeine intake can also decrease the
frequency of the problem. At Gentle Dental Care, we can help stop and prevent further damage

Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the
story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they
confessed to each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of
them killed. Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility
for her actions. In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of
adultery, which shows that Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and
that there would be consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have
control over anything that happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why
she is in hell. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in
him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing
blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions
she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that
she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced

Mozart Effect On Society
The effects of Mozart on today s society can be seen just about everywhere. In marketing, they play

modern music, they often think of classical music. And when people think of classical music, they
think of Mozart. During the 18th century, the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

total number of six hundred and fifty works. When he was younger, he toured Europe with his
father, Leopold, and his sister, Nannerl, playing for Europe s elite of the time. He put forth some

adults. The assignment wants to focus on how variables such as preparation, income, and health
directly or indirectly affect retirement. It also wants to look and compare family dynamics before
and after retirement. It aims to assess how satisfied the older adults are after retirement. The aim is
to use the information gathered and add on to the current knowledge base in order to use that
information to improve actual nursing practice and overall treatment of the elderly. To get more
varied responses, I chose two respondents with different socioeconomic standing. I believe this
would enhance the overall learning experience from the activity by providing different views on
the realities of retiring in America. My first respondent was Mr. S.L., a 94 year old Caucasian
male. He was born and raised in the U.S. He was originally from Chicago, but he moved to the

Imagery In The Grapes Of Wrath
Grapes of Wrath
Author, John Steinbeck, in his novel, Grapes of Wrath, narrates the life of people in Oklahoma
during the time of the Dust Bowl, when no one has everything, but everyone has nothing.
Steinbeck s purpose with this novel is to show different people s point of view and way of life
during this time; what people had to do to for themselves and their families to survive. He adopts a
narrative, everyday tone; therefore causing the reader to feel like they are there with the usage of
imagery and the vernacular familiar to the region during this time period.
In Chapter 1 of Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck uses of imagery to show the reader what the Dust Bowl
was like, not only in general, but with everyone else in the story. Every moving

Government Intervention In The Market System
Discuss the case for and against government intervention in an economy.
In most of the countries, the government has intervened in the market system. To some extent there
is a dire need of government intervention in the market system, although there is a debate over this
point among the economists. Many economists believe that the role of government intervention
improves the market system. The government can easily enforce the rules that can help in the
smooth functioning of the market system. On the other hand, there are economists who believe that
government interventions in a market system are the reason of inefficiency in the system.
There are some goods that underprovided and underconsumed. Such goods are cold merit goods.

Information failure occurs when people have inaccurate, incomplete, uncertain or misunderstood
data and so make potentially wrong choices. Government action can have a role in improving
information to help consumers and producers value the true cost and/or benefit of a good or
service. Examples might include: * Compulsory labeling on cigarette packages with health
warnings to reduce smoking * Improved nutritional information on foods to counter the risks of
growing obesity * Anti speeding television advertising to reduce road accidents and advertising
campaigns to raise awareness of the risks of drink driving * Advertising health screening
programmes / information campaigns on the dangers of addiction
Another advantage of government intervention is the national minimum wage. The national
minimum wage was introduced into the UK in 1999. It is an intervention in the labour market
designed to increase the pay of lower paid workers and thereby influence the distribution of income
in society. In October 2005, the value of the minimum wage for adults was ВЈ5.05 following a
series of small increases over recent years.
The main aims of the minimum wage 1. The equity justification: That every job should offer a fair
rate of pay commensurate with the skills and experience of an employee 2. Labour market
incentives: The NMW is designed to improve the incentives for people to start looking for work

An Exploration of the Components of Service Quality
Literature Review
Service Quality
The initial efforts of defining and measuring quality have primary focused on goods since the
end of 1970s (e.g., Clark et al, 1987; Garvin, 1984). Crosby (1979) described goods quality as to
reach or exceed standards. Garvin (1983) suggested that goods quality could be evaluated by the
incidence number of failures which occur either before a product leaves the factory or after a unit
is set up in the field. Compared with the discussions on goods quality, service quality had been
explored rarely then (e.g., Sasser, Olsen Wyckoff, 1978; Gronroos, 1982; Lewis Booms, 1983).
Parasuranman et al (1985) is one of the cornerstone studies of service quality, which gave the
definition of service quality as the discrepancy between customers expectation for service and
their perceptions of service performance they receive. The three authors further developed a
comprehensive measurement set of service attributes called SERVQUAL. An appliance repair
and maintenance firm, several retail banks, a long distance telephone provider, a securities
broker, and credit card companies. ERVQUAL is a 22 item scale which measures service quality
from five perspectives; reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles
(Parasuraman et al, 1988). SERVQUAL has been widely used as criteria of evaluating service
quality (e.g., Reidenbach Sandifer Smallwood, 1990; Tan Pawitra, 2001; Markovic Raspor, 2010).

Hawking Bias
The media have always had a huge influence on everything in society both negatively and
positively. There is no telling that everything said in the media is true, because the media can
often be biased. The media becomes biased when it emphasizes one specific point of view in a way
that breaches the ethics of journalismprofessionally. For instance, in a case study by two scientists,
Michaels Knappenberger (2013), they stated: ...and so the story of global warming science in the

evidence for more modest changes and impacts, or, situation as normal findings. We re not blaming

There are a variety of science fiction movies out there and I think they all equally portray
fictional scientists both negatively and positively. According to Davis (2012), science
influenced science fiction, but science fiction affected science in ways such as how people
think about scientific researches and progress, and created a lot of misunderstandings amongst
society on certain areas of science. For instance, in Jurassic World, the new hybrid dinosaur they
genetically altered became dangerous and nearly killed thousands of people in the park when it
escaped from his cage, thus making the scientist who created this a bad scientist for tampering
with nature. Victor Frankenstein movie depicts two men using science to create life from death,
or some may say, trying to play God. The Island of Dr. Moreau features a mad scientist who
makes half human beasts. Movies like Jurassic World, Victor Frankenstein, and The island of Dr.
Moreau can create a misunderstanding and leave people fearful of the idea of tinkering with
nature (Davis, 2012). I believe that tampering with nature is not a bad thing or even be viewed as
bad because the positive and good things we know and have in our modern world is the result of
some tinkering done by

The Cold War Was The Korean War
President Richard Nixon once famously remarked, The Cold War isn t thawing; it is burning with a
deadly heat. Communism isn t sleeping; it is, as always, plotting, scheming, working, fighting. If
there is only one statement that captures the raw tension and scale of the Cold War, it is this. In
fact, the real heat of the Cold Warwas often felt in Asia, rather than Europe or America itself. Real
conflict broke out in Asia during this tense period of American history, such as in the correlated
but separate spheres of Korea and Vietnam, but there was also diplomacy that took place, such as
in China. To begin, the first major event that took place in the Asian sphere of the Cold War was
the Korean War. It is interesting to note that, as History.com (2009) states, the invasion of the
southern Republic of Korea by the northern Democratic People s Republic of Korea was the first
military operation of the Cold War. The Korean War was largely a battle between two ideologies,
backed by two superpowers; the United States and the Soviet Union, which promoted democracy
and communism, respectively. American forces were mostly concerned about containing the spread
of communism within the region, partially for practical reasons, such as allies, and partially for a
show of force against communism. This quote accurately represents the ideology at play in the
situation, from an American perspective,

Attention Deficit Disorder
Five year old Danny is in kindergarten. It is playtime and he hops from chair to chair, swinging his
arms and legs restlessly, and then begins to fiddle with the light switches, turning the lights on and
off again to everyone s annoyance all the while talking nonstop. When his teacher encourages him
to join a group of other children busy in the playroom, Danny interrupts a game that was already in
progress and takes over, causing the other children to complain of his bossiness and drift away to
other activities. Even when Danny has the toys to himself, he fidgets aimlessly with them and

It is an unrealistic expectation of a person with ADD. What is normal is that they will be
inconsistent. Typically, they have problems with following through on instructions, paying
attention appropriately to what they need to attend to, seem not to listen, be disorganized, have
poor handwriting, miss details, have trouble starting tasks or with tasks that require planning or
long term effort, appear to be easily distracted, or forgetful. In addition, some people with ADD
can be fidgety, verbally impulsive, unable to wait their turn, and act on impulse regardless of
consequences. However, it is important to remember not all people with ADD have all of these
difficulties, or all of the time.
Due to the fact that society has traditionally thought of a person with ADD as being hyper, many
children who have ADD with no hyperactivity are not being identified or treated. Individuals with
ADD without hyperactivity are sometimes thought of as daydreamers or absent minded professors.
The non hyperactive children with ADD most often seem to be girls (though girls can have ADD
with hyperactivity, and boys can have ADD without hyperactivity). Additionally, because of the
ability of an individual with ADD to over focus, or hyper focus on something that is of great
interest or highly stimulating, many untrained observers assume that this ability to concentrate

Famine Affluence And Morality By Peter Singer
41 million people struggle with hunger in the United States, including 13 million children. Even in
the world s greatest food producing nation, children and adults face poverty and hunger in every
state across the U.S.. It is a black plague that twists itself around the American people scattered all
over the country. Because povertyis a huge regularity shared and ignored, should the people be
responsible for the removal of hunger and poverty in the United Statesof America? Should the
American people ignore the brethren who fall because of this disease? Should the American people
live on without feeding half the nation s population? Primarily, Famine, Affluence, and Morality is
an essay written by Peter Singer in 1971 and published in Philosophy and Public Affairs in 1972.
In his essay, Singer reaches out to the worried and interested audience population about the lack of
food, shelter, and medicine. Singer emphasizes the importance of moral obligation. If it is in the
power of a human being to achieve something for the good of the whole, or rather, to prevent
something bad from occurring without sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, then
it should be done. All in all his essay depicts one true conclusion: the only way to prevent famine

A young man was walking down the street, having no clue who he was or what had happened.
He didn t even remember if he had any family. He could only remember that he had been

I could use a servant. No. I am just exploring. Said the young man. Now get out of my way. The
Neimoidian just stared at him. Trying to think of a way to trick him. Realizing that it was
hopeless he went into a weapons store. He then headed into an alley where he found some old
meat. The meat looked as if it had been out there for weeks. He started eating it as soon as he had
found a box to sit on. The meat tasted like steak with a hint of barbecue sauce. It tasted a little
rotten. Bite after bite he swallowed. Finally, one last bite finished it of the meat. Suddenly he

Essay Comparing Grey s Anatomy And Empire
While hit TV series Grey s Anatomy and Empire are both extremely popular, they differ greatly in
the language used. In order to complete this project, I took linguistic concepts I had learned about
in the text such as grammar, context, and communicative competence and applied them to the
language usage in these TV series. A lot can be assumed about different characters based solely on
their speech. Take for instance two of the main characters in Grey s Anatomy, Meredith and Derek.
Simply by listening to their proper grammar, it is noticeable that they have received a formal
education and are quite intelligent. We would most likely assume that they grew up in a middle
class home with working parents who could afford their education.

There is not a wide variety in speech in each show. Grey s Anatomy is typically more formal and
professional while Empire is slightly less formal. The characters mentioned so far have been
couples or former couples. Because of this, they speak differently with each other than they do
with other characters in the show. A strong use of communicative practices is apparent for all
characters. For example, Meredith and Derek from Grey s Anatomy are married. They have more
casual conversation with one another compared to Meredith and her boss, Richard. Lucious and
Cookie are a former couple. They may have a more personal relationship but there is obvious
tension between them. Each character has a different discourse genre. While I have not watched
every episode of these two television programs, from what I have observed, code switching has
not occurred. While there is a wide variety in regards to the ethnicity of different characters, none
of them are multilingual. However, it is possible that code switching could occur in future
episodes. For example, in Grey s Anatomy they get many different types of patients. It is very
likely that one of those patients may speak two languages and switch in times of stress. The same
is true of Empire. The clientele dealt with in Empire ranges and there is a strong possibility one of
those characters could practice code

Positive And Negative Effects Of Alcoholism
Alcohol is present throughout society and everyday life. It is often referenced in the media, through
songs, television, and movies. Unlike during the Prohibition Era, in today s society, alcohol is
typically viewed positively, due to the strong influence of commercials promoting alcohol. The
positive advertisement of alcoholmakes it intriguing and tempting. This intrigue, combined with the
overall promotion of alcohol in today s society, leads to adults and even teenagers becoming more
adventurous with trying alcohol. One negative side of alcohol consumption, alcoholism, is not
discussed as often. Alcoholism is a disorder that involves a person s ability to control his or her
alcohol consumption. Often, alcoholics suffer from over consumption of alcohol or a dependency
on it. Alcoholism affects 17.6 million Americans, which is roughly 1 in every 12 adults (Wilcox).
There are many effects of alcoholism that involve more than just one person. Alcoholism affects the
health, social interactions and relationships, and finance of its victim. The most clear effect
alcoholism has is the health issues that result from it. Excessive alcohol consumption can affect
many major organs, as well as the immune system. Often times, alcoholism leads to the
development of other diseases or disorders in the heart, liver, and pancreas. For example,
alcoholism can cause cardiomyopathy, which is the stretching and drooping of heart muscle ,
steatosis, which is excess fat on the liver, and

Spies During Wwill
There were many uses of technology specialized for spies during WWll. Great tactics and
innovation were developed to create such equipment that would later on benefit them. These
pieces of equipment ranged from rodent bombs bombs embedded in rat carcasses which would
be placed near boiler rooms in the opponent s camp; to carrying counterfeit documents such as
passports; a stealthy and cunning weapon like the sleeve gun; and a knife concealed in a fountain

The pigeon stems from the Rock Pigeon, which is from the bird family Columbidae. The usage of
carrier pigeons as ways of delivering a message dates back to centuries ago. During WWll,
pigeons were dependent on to deliver discreet messages from and to an area. More than 250,000
carrier pigeons were used in World War II (WWII Carrier Pigeon Finally Delivers Secret
Message). For usage, a pigeon would be equipped with a small capsule fastened to one leg (or to
its back if it was larger) and often released from an aircraft. These pigeons were trained to
navigate where to go and how to come back. According to America in WWII, Over short
distances, these birds could approach 60 miles per hour, though 35 to 40 miles was a more
typical average cruising speed. Flying is strenuous, and on a long flight, a bird could lose 2 or 3
ounces about a fifth of its 13 to 15 ounces of body weight. For this reason, younger birds, one to
four years old, were used (Razes). Pigeons were very beneficiary to WWll and were helpful in
carrying messages across the country when it seemed impossible to carry by word of mouth or very
far traveling distance. Along with the advantages came the disadvantages. The owners faced
difficulties such as importing, hiding, feeding, and exercising them. Also, there was a limitation to
distance and direction which could be flown (Rigden

The Horror Of The Gothic Genre
The Gothic genre often reproduces a conservative paranoid structure when it comes to
homophobia and other moral panics over sex (Hanson, Pg. 176). Eve Sedgwick depicts this in
her work, Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosexual Desire as she discusses how
these ideas (paranoia) are represented within the Gothic, in what she describes as the homosocial
in reference to male bonds (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). She also discusses how bonds between men exist
as the backbone of social form and forms (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, a consequence of said structure
is the ability to define, control, and manipulate male bonds, which in turn becomes an inexplicably
powerful instrument of social control (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, homosexualityis represented as the
unspeakable within the Gothic, as it has been defined, controlled, and manipulated to be such
though social control. Therefore, this paper will discuss how homosocial bonds between men, are
used as a tool in social control and used as a way to produce paranoia and moral panic, thus in
reference to the Gothic, these forms epitomize homosexuality as the unspeakable, especially
through homosexual representations within the contexts of ghosts and haunted houses.
Sedgwick describes one of the most distinctive Gothic tropes, as the unspeakable (Sedgwick, Pg.
94), through this trope, she explains how sexuality between men has been recognized as having no
name, essentially being unspeakable , unmentionable , and not to be

My American Dream Experience In My Life
This summer my American dream was fulfilled through the simple things. This summer I was
able to be blessed with a job. And I was an assistant for a home daycare and this was like a dream

something to do during the day. I woke up every morning excited to get to work i would get to
work every day on time. I was just so ready to be in he presence of the wonderful kids, we also
had a activity daily planned that kept the children busy. The activities varied from going to the
pool, seeing a movie, going to the park, or even just going out to get some ice cream. Each day
was filled with fun and laughter. Every day i came into the daycare i grew closer with the kids,
and during the weekend when the aycare was closed i would be so anxious waiting around for
Sunday evening so I could get ready for the next day. I also had another American dream
experience this summer, my family decided to have a big cookout so that we could prepare for
an family reunion next summer so everyone got together we cooked out on the grill we did relay
races, water balloons, and many more fun activities. This was an american dream experience
because being around family and their is positive energy in the room is just the best feeling in the

Impact Of Technology On Communication
The impact of technology in communication
Communication and technology have been evolving together throughout the years. Where we had
the chance to witness the latest technology developments that resulted in the advancement of the
communication on a professional and a personal level. But as technology grows and advances step
by step so does its impact on the way individuals and society communicates.
There are various types of communication in today s world where technology is embedded and
manifest in all of them without us feeling it as a pervasive and hankering presence. Most used
among these are verbal, non verbal and visual communication. Verbal communication refers to the
spoken word. The information is transmitted through a verbal medium like words, speeches,
presentations and more. For instance, in educational institutions and professional organizations,
individuals communicate verbally with each other through dialogues, lecture, presentations,
discussions and even conversation. The clarity of the message conveyed cannot be achieved
unless the message is well spoken and concise, unambiguous and definite. Slowly and gradually
technology is pervading and conquering our daily lives. With verbal communication being
substituted by technological interface people are being more involved in the virtual and digital
world than being present in the real world. According to Emily Drago ( EJSPRING 15) in a study
of verbal communication with and without the aid of mobile

Comparison Of Rahe And The Baron De Montesquieu
Both Paul A. Rahe and the baron de Montesquieu seek to define republics of antiquity and modern
republics, but Montesquieu places more faith in the reader s ability to comprehend the ancients.
While Rahe presents an explanation of ancient republics with frequent references to American
government, Montesquieu illustrates the principles of ancient and British governments separately.
Montesquieu establishes rules regarding each republic, such as that all nations have peculiar
purposes and that three powers exist in every political community. He then examines various states
and generally does not directly compare England with ancient republics. Montesquieu allows the

He writes, Political liberty is found only in moderate governments. But it is not always in
moderate states. It is present only when power is not abused, but it has eternally been observed
that any man who has power is led to abuse it; he continues until he finds limits. Therefore, a
system of checks must be set in place in order to avoid such abuses and protect political liberty.
Montesquieu continues, So that one cannot abuse power, power must check power by the
arrangement of things. This separation is essential for England s unique goal of establishing
political liberty. Although Montesquieu occasionally considers ancient republics in his chapters on
England, he generally discusses them separately and does not often compare them, such as when he
considers a balance of power. The English constitution ensures that no one body possesses the
three powers which Montesquieu identifies. He writes, In each state there are three sorts of
powers: legislative power, executive power over the things depending on the right of nations, and
executive power over the things depending on civil right. The legislative power refers to the
ability to make and correct laws. The first executive power refers to the power of state, meaning
the ability to make peace or war, have power over embassies, and maintain national security. The
last power is that of judging disputes and punishing crimes. Montesquieu writes, All would be lost

with eight hours of standby. It also had a recharging cycle of ten hours. The DynaTAC 8000x is

no city wide commercial analogue cellular service had been established. In May of 1973, the

analogue cellular system. This cellular system only had two working cells and was restricted to

Not falling far behind was Japan who was next in line. Japan followed with the operator Nippon

Adam Fuss Photography
Born in 1961 in rural London and raised in Australia Adam Fuss is a prolific photographer with a
keen eye for nature. His interest first begun through the documentation of the natural environment
using photography as his medium. However, it wasn t long until Fuss began using less
contemporary photographic methods to document his unique view on the world. Leaving the
camera behind entirely he takes a contemporary approach on the earliest techniques known to
photographyfrom daguerreotype to the photogram. The photogram Love is a life sized colour
contact print using light sensitive photographic paper with the contents acting as a barrier between
the light source and the paper. In this image the contents are two slaughtered rabbits which... Show

Adams s best known for his book Summer Nights, Walking uses the medium of photography in a
much more documentary style capturing what he sees and how he sees it. This traditional
approach could be what triggered the response to Fuss s image. In response to the criticism Adam
Fuss questions the difference between eating animals for nourishment and survival as a necessary
part of our society and art being just as a valuable and fundamental in to our culture. The argument
of offence is one not aimed directly at the use of visceral rabbits but rather the method in which the
artist creates the imagery. Instead of a traditional use of cameras he turns to alternative forms but
still considers the imagery photographs. The images go far beyond those of previous photograms
adding texture, colour and movement to a technique and method which had been almost forgotten.
The moral implications which come as a result of using rabbits as materials shows a slow
desensitisation towards death and decay, this could be what the artist Adams was referring to in his
criticism aimed at the

Ambiguity In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Literary translation seeks to recreate an original work in a new language using the tools available in
the target language. In order to recreate a story, the translator must first interpret its meaning. This
proves to be a challenge as the nature of literary works is such that they often lend themselves to
multiple interpretations, either due to deliberate or unintentional ambiguity in the text. In the case
of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author crafted a complex story filled with
ambiguity. What are, then, translators to do when faced with the momentous task of translating an
important piece of American literature like Young Goodman Brown? They must undoubtedly turn
to literary criticism, which seeks to produce in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the translator is unaware of the multifunctionality of the name, he or she will not be able to
recreate it in the target text. If Goodman is kept in the original English, the target audience might
perceive it as a first name. Furthermore, the repetition of the word good in the language
understood by the reader will be lost, and so the irony will not be reinforced every time the word
Goodman is encountered. In Spanish, for example, translating Goodman as buen hombre (good
man), which is a form of address used for a kind and honest man, would allow the character to be
every man, as he would bear no first name. Furthermore, by allowing readers to have access to the
repetition of the word good in their language, they are being granted the opportunity to find the
sense of irony for themselves.
The Puritan preoccupation with Good and Evil manifested itself in the religion s condemnation of
witchcraft. Hawthorne uses uncountable references to witchcraft and its association with sexuality,
debauchery and carnal abandon (Hoffman 163). One example of sexual imagery comes from the
speech of the sable figure leading the witch s sabbath in the forest. The figure uses the words bed
chamber, stain, blood, penetrate, bosom, and sin to talk about man s evil

A Penny Saved
A penny saved is a penny earned is one of the most well known sayings in American culture, or,
perhaps, used to be one of the most well known sayings in America. According to Jenny Che, an
associate business editor at The Huffington Post, America has a serious problem when it comes to
financial literacy and the problem starts with the kids in the schoolsystem who are not being taught
how to manage money. Che states in her April 2016 blog post titled, America Is Not Teaching Kids
How To Manage Money. And That s A Problem, that the United States
was ranked far lower than
most people would expect when it comes to financial literacy, and little is being done to resolve this
issue. Through alarming observations and data, Che successfully makes her point: America is not
integrating financial curriculum into their educationsystem, and this must change. Although Che s
post is fewer than 500 words, she presents an impressive amount of well supported information. A
large portion of her post focuses on recent studies and research to back her argument, building ethos.
All of the sources have been published in very recent years, adding a consistent and current time
period to her argument. She poses statistics such as the amount of debt American students have
accumulated, the staggering number of people who are behind on their loan payments, and the
small number of schools who are actively incorporating financial education curriculum into their
system. She references an extensive

Mercantilism And Comparative Advantage Theory
As (Lisa l martin) stated that international trade provides an opportunity and risk to a group of
nation or individual. It provide an opening to other nations economy as well as to the economy of
specialised nation. while international trade become important to business in countries they
developed different theories to explain the need of trade and what to trade. There are different trade
theories like Mercantilism, non mercantilism, absolute advantage thory, comparative advantage
theory are some of those.
Mercantilism is an economic system used in European countries in 1800s. and 16th to the mid 18th
century. under mercantilism the countries wealth is measured by the accumulation of valuable
metals like gold and silver.(Piggott. j and cook .m) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory says that America has an comparative advantage on producing both car and aircraft
over Europe. As long as Europe is not equally less efficient in producing both cars and aircraft.
Still Europe ac specialise on producing a single product (such as car) which has comparative
advantage rather than absolute advantage. A country has a Comparative advantage in a commodity
when it has An higher popularity in processing Also it need similar preference On a commodity
The point when its level from claiming popularity will be low. (Piggott mark cook) withstanding
the benefits characterize by using Comparative advantage there are different constraint which can

cost of transportation from one country to another country thinking it may completely remove
Comparative advantage driven by two country. There is only two countries engaged in the process
of production as well as consumption of the two goods. The only resources which is non

Comparing Gospels And Pride And Prejudice
The Gospels, by unknown authors, and Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, are two very
different works. The former is a text crafted in order to spread Christianity around the world,
while the latter is a novel for noble women to read in their leisure during the Regency Era. The
two texts have some similarities, however, and the most poignant of these involve gossip and
rumor. Rumor is crucial to the characters in the Gospels and in Pride and Prejudicebecause it
becomes their news, their fact, their social status, their knowledge, and their power. Without it, the
characters would have no connection to each other or the world around them. Peoples lives
revolve around the gossip they hear and read in the two works, and the way this gossip... Show

The fact that something happened is not important unless it is recognized and glorified as such.
For example, Jesus acknowledges the importance of doing acts in front of others and therefore
spreading the rumor of those deeds when he says, I have said this for the sake of the crowd
standing here, so that they may believe you sent me (John 11, 42). This shows the need to
recognize something happening before it can become important. In Pride and Prejudice,
something is not acknowledged as an event unless it is talked about in front of others. For
example, Mrs. Bennet had to be sure to tell everyone that Bingley danced with Jane the most at
the ball, or else it would not have been recognized as an event (p. 8). Also, the ladies always have
to go Longbourn after a ball to discuss the evening s happenings with the Lucases so they can
gossip about the events of the evening, thus establishing them as important (p. 14). Not only is
recognizing something as an event essential in the works, but rumor can become the event itself.
In the Gospels, word, or rumor, becomes God. John opens with the line, In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1, 2). This shows that as people
spread the word, it not only informs people about God, but it becomes God

Manhood In The Film, Magnolia
No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to
serve somebody else than it is to serve himself Woodrow Wilson. What truly classifies a man as
manly ? To some, manhood is a sense of authority over others, and to others, manhood is shown
by love, compassion, and providing security for those around them. Portrayed as a fast paced
film, Magnolia depicts a story of shattered families, unforeseen relations, catastrophe, second
chances, and differences in life choices. The theme of a film, or any work, is the subject or topic.
Roger Ebert expresses in his review of Magnolia how the opening sequence, a narrated TV special
about coincidence, sets up the entire theme of the film: It sets... Show more content on

Frank Mackey based his manhood on the disrespecting, owning, downgrading, and manipulation
of women. Frank not only chose to not overcome his past, but also presented his belief in not
facing your past to his viewers. Jim Curring s occupation as a police officer portrays his love for
his community, also, his ability to serve helps him understand the man he has become. However, the
decision making, whether it be to act as an officer, or whether to give someone a second chance
will forever be a troubling decision to Jim. Although their differences in views of manhood, the

Freshly fallen ash particles can have acid coatings which may cause irritation to the lungs and
eyes. This acid coating is rapidly removed by rain, which may then pollute local water supplies.
Acidic ash can also damage vegetation, leading to crop failure. People can be more fearful of
the health hazards of volcanic ash and gases than of the risk of dying from more major hazards,
such as pyroclastic flows. However, ashfalls can affect very wide areas around volcanoes and
may cause major disruption to normal living.Medical services can expect an increase in the
number of patients with respiratory and eye symptoms during and after an ashfall event. Effects
of ash on health may be divided into several categories: respiratory effects, eye symptoms, and
skin irritation. In some eruptions, ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the
lungs. With high exposure, even healthy individuals will experience chest discomfort with
increased coughing and irritation. In rare circumstances, long term exposure to fine volcanic ash
may lead to serious lung diseases. For these diseases to occur, the ash must be very fine, contain
crystalline silica (for the disease silicosis to occur) and the people must be exposed to the ash in
high concentrations over many years. Exposure to crystalline silica in volcanic ash is typically of
short duration (days to weeks), and studies suggest that the recommended exposure limits (similar
in most countries) can be exceeded for short periods of time for the general population. People
suffering from asthma or other lung problems such as bronchitis and emphysema, and severe heart
problems are most at risk. The development of respiratory symptoms from the inhalation of
volcanic ash depends on a number of factors. These include the concentration of particles in the air,
the proportion of fine particles in the ash, the frequency and duration of exposure, the

  • 4. The Discovery, Structure, Metabolic Processes, Regulation... ABSTRACT Upon discovery of photosynthesis and the pathways that the molecules took during this process, chloroplasts were soon uncovered. Scientists have taken a keen interest in chloroplasts since their discovery. This review article will explore the discovery, structure, metabolic processes, regulation and the genome of the chloroplast. Chloroplast are not only vital in providing food for plant life, they are essential regulating and producing molecules for the cell. Once thought to function on their own chloroplast have their own DNA and many unique characterizes. While much has been discovered about the chloroplast there are still many unanswered questions and useful applications for these tiny organelles. INTRODUCTION Chloroplasts are very interesting organelles, thought to have once been independently functioning cells. It is believed that they were once cyanobacteria floating around in the primordial soup. These bacteria underwent respiration on their own in the absence of molecular oxygen until the ozone layer was formed and oxygen gas could exist on earth. Once this occurred, eukaryotic organisms started to flourish and they engulfed the bacteria. Once the bacteria were engulfed these prokaryotic organisms over time with evolution became what we now know today as the chloroplast. Chloroplast today are organelles within cells that have double membranes. They function in the plant to not only capture light from the sun and turn it into carbohydrates for the plant ... The most recent solution to the problem is having every policeman have a body camera, in order to make the police officer feel as if their every movement is being watched. Recently, there has been discussion if police officers using body cameras is a Liberty Issues and that it gives the police force way too much unchecked power. Some citizens believe that body cameras leads into privacy issues (4th Amendment), violation of civil rights (1st Amendment), and may give too much power to the government (Limited Government via James Madison). Body cameras come in all shapes and sizes. There are many commercial businesses in the United States that already use body cameras for private industry work. According to Jay Stanley a body camera are, small, pager sized cameras that clip on to an officer s uniform or sunglasses or are worn as a headset, and record audio and video of the officer s interactions with the public (Stanley). The meat type pigs are also known as bacon types, they were developed to have more lean meat with moderate marbling of fat. On the other hand lard type pigs were developed to hard large deposits of fat so that the animals could be butchered into large chunks a bit easier. Modern swine production has focused prominently on developing pigs that grow fast and produce a very lean, light colored meat. Older heritage breeds are raised for niche markets because they have more fat and grow much slower, however they are more efficient on pasture than commercial hogs. Producers of the heritage or older breeds believe that the meat and lard are much more flavorful and nutrient dense when raised on pasture at a slower rate, that is just preference. At the same time, this state of advancement of great antiquity was also an attribute of divinity. The elements of civilization were intimately associated to the highly esteemed divine mediation. Despite the prominent theology culture in The Epic of Gilgamesh, divine intervention is not the only element that could transform the crude heroic figures into sagacious men. Even though the King of Uruk is expected to be highly civilized, ironically he does not appear to be so. Overwhelmed with ego, arrogance and complete misuse of power, Gilgamesh has condemned civilization insofar his existence. He thwarts his humanity by emphasizing his strength and power in order to be more successful, forsaking the well being of his people. Hearing the laments and cries of the people of Uruk, the gods then create Enkidu as a match for Gilgamesh. For Enkidu is a divine creation, with [a] virtue in him like the god of war Ninurta, long waved hair of the goddess of corn Nisaba, and body of matted hair like the god of cattle Samuqan (Sandars 63), one would have expected him to be a lesson to Gilgamesh. However, the creation of Enkidu does not really answer the people s grieving as an equal who can contend with Gilgamesh together and keep him busy from all his iniquities (Sandars 62). Enkidu can never be Gilgamesh s match as he is created completely human while Gilgamesh two third divine. This strategy, in fact, works in a different manner whereby Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh the real significance of being a human. This shows a fascinating twist as Gilgamesh s intention to tame Enkidu by sending him a prostitute instead mirrors his taming by Enkidu. Homework has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth century. At first, homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people enjoyed that learning could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in the forties, Professor H. J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homeworkdoes not result in sufficiently improved academic accomplishment (Otto 380). In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can be improved. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections: immediate achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and greater parental appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains that one s learning can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better critical thinking, greater concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and better retention of factual knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term academic benefits, homework allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an improved attitude toward school can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish homework can classwork in more efficient timing. • 12. Effects Of Captive Enrichment On Fish Production Essay Effects of Captive Enrichment on Fish Production: Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) Introduction Environmental enrichment for fish in captive environments has not been studied often, unlike that of mammals. However, in the last decade there have been more attempts to study it. Moreover, structural environmental enrichment is the focal point at this time. Structural environmental enrichment is the addition of a structure (e.g. toys, buoys, artificial vegetation) to the rearing environment (Naslund Johnsson, 2014). Enrichment can affect a variety of aspects of the biology of captive fish, such as, stress, injury, disease susceptibility, aggression, and energy expenditure (Gerber et al., 2015)). A recent study conducted by Naslund and Johnsson (2014), found that environmental enrichment can be divided into groups. These groups include: physical enrichment, sensory enrichment, dietary enrichment, social enrichment, and occupational enrichment. Since, some of those are difficult to test, physical enrichment is what is being studied now. All species of fish are not the same and prefer certain substrates rather than others. Therefore, since the Fathead Minnows that we will be studying and conducting this research on, will depend on what they prefer. The goal of this study is to test whether captive enrichment effects the reproduction success of P. promelas. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it sound like she had no fault at all. From the story ... In restaurants, they play music to help the customer feel relaxed in their establishment. People listen to music while driving cars. It seems that musicpermeates almost every aspect of our everyday lives. When people think of the birth of modern music, they often think of classical music. And when people think of classical music, they think of Mozart. During the 18th century, the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed a total number of six hundred and fifty works. When he was younger, he toured Europe with his father, Leopold, and his sister, Nannerl, playing for Europe s elite of the time. He put forth some major musical contributions that shape modern music today (Fiero 324,326). Classical music is the great grandfather of all modern music. Some people enjoy... The assignment wants to focus on how variables such as preparation, income, and health directly or indirectly affect retirement. It also wants to look and compare family dynamics before and after retirement. It aims to assess how satisfied the older adults are after retirement. The aim is to use the information gathered and add on to the current knowledge base in order to use that information to improve actual nursing practice and overall treatment of the elderly. To get more varied responses, I chose two respondents with different socioeconomic standing. I believe this would enhance the overall learning experience from the activity by providing different views on the realities of retiring in America. My first respondent was Mr. S.L., a 94 year old Caucasian male. He was born and raised in the U.S. He was originally from Chicago, but he moved to the Hampton Roads area for business. Before retiring, S.L. owned and managed a very lucrative architecture firm in Norfolk, which his son now operates. In most of the countries, the government has intervened in the market system. To some extent there is a dire need of government intervention in the market system, although there is a debate over this point among the economists. Many economists believe that the role of government intervention improves the market system. The government can easily enforce the rules that can help in the smooth functioning of the market system. On the other hand, there are economists who believe that government interventions in a market system are the reason of inefficiency in the system. • 24. An Exploration of the Components of Service Quality Literature Review Service Quality The initial efforts of defining and measuring quality have primary focused on goods since the end of 1970s (e.g., Clark et al, 1987; Garvin, 1984). Crosby (1979) described goods quality as to reach or exceed standards. Garvin (1983) suggested that goods quality could be evaluated by the incidence number of failures which occur either before a product leaves the factory or after a unit is set up in the field. Compared with the discussions on goods quality, service quality had been explored rarely then (e.g., Sasser, Olsen Wyckoff, 1978; Gronroos, 1982; Lewis Booms, 1983). Parasuranman et al (1985) is one of the cornerstone studies of service quality, which gave the definition of service quality as the discrepancy between customers expectation for service and their perceptions of service performance they receive. The three authors further developed a comprehensive measurement set of service attributes called SERVQUAL. An appliance repair and maintenance firm, several retail banks, a long distance telephone provider, a securities broker, and credit card companies. ERVQUAL is a 22 item scale which measures service quality from five perspectives; reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles (Parasuraman et al, 1988). SERVQUAL has been widely used as criteria of evaluating service quality (e.g., Reidenbach Sandifer Smallwood, 1990; Tan Pawitra, 2001; Markovic Raspor, 2010). According to Davis (2012), science influenced science fiction, but science fiction affected science in ways such as how people think about scientific researches and progress, and created a lot of misunderstandings amongst society on certain areas of science. For instance, in Jurassic World, the new hybrid dinosaur they genetically altered became dangerous and nearly killed thousands of people in the park when it escaped from his cage, thus making the scientist who created this a bad scientist for tampering with nature. Victor Frankenstein movie depicts two men using science to create life from death, or some may say, trying to play God. The Island of Dr. Moreau features a mad scientist who makes half human beasts. Communism isn t sleeping; it is, as always, plotting, scheming, working, fighting. If there is only one statement that captures the raw tension and scale of the Cold War, it is this. In fact, the real heat of the Cold Warwas often felt in Asia, rather than Europe or America itself. Real conflict broke out in Asia during this tense period of American history, such as in the correlated but separate spheres of Korea and Vietnam, but there was also diplomacy that took place, such as in China. To begin, the first major event that took place in the Asian sphere of the Cold War was the Korean War. It is interesting to note that, as History.com (2009) states, the invasion of the southern Republic of Korea by the northern Democratic People s Republic of Korea was the first military operation of the Cold War. The Korean War was largely a battle between two ideologies, backed by two superpowers; the United States and the Soviet Union, which promoted democracy and communism, respectively. American forces were mostly concerned about containing the spread of communism within the region, partially for practical reasons, such as allies, and partially for a show of force against communism. • 36. The Horror Of The Gothic Genre The Gothic genre often reproduces a conservative paranoid structure when it comes to homophobia and other moral panics over sex (Hanson, Pg. 176). Eve Sedgwick depicts this in her work, Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosexual Desire as she discusses how these ideas (paranoia) are represented within the Gothic, in what she describes as the homosocial in reference to male bonds (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). She also discusses how bonds between men exist as the backbone of social form and forms (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, a consequence of said structure is the ability to define, control, and manipulate male bonds, which in turn becomes an inexplicably powerful instrument of social control (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, homosexualityis represented as the unspeakable within the Gothic, as it has been defined, controlled, and manipulated to be such though social control. Therefore, this paper will discuss how homosocial bonds between men, are used as a tool in social control and used as a way to produce paranoia and moral panic, thus in reference to the Gothic, these forms epitomize homosexuality as the unspeakable, especially through homosexual representations within the contexts of ghosts and haunted houses. These discussions are private and should only be discussed in our circle. Once, two females had a problem with one male student. One of the girls got her friends involved in the situation, and it escalated into a bigger situation which almost got physical. I was asked to sit in on this circle to resolve the conflict and I did. I was successful as there were no fights and the females found a way to solve the problem they had with each other in peace. During the circle I told that this person that they are having issues over does not care about them because if he did he would have tried and de escalate the situation, but he did not. This is one of the reasons I choose the restorative justice program as the most important activity because it has helped me and now I am in a capacity to help others along their ... • 41. Radiotelephony History Today we refer to our phones as cellphones or mobile phones. However, that was not the case when they first came about. The term radiotelephony was used to describe what we now call our cell phones. Early radiotelephony, early dating back to the 1940 s, services was available for a very small amount of people. The very first mobile phones were better known as radiotelephones and were first used in the early part of the last century. Radiotelephones were originally used for ship to shore or ship to ship communications. He is also credited with being the first person to make a call from a handheld cell phone. Mr. Cooper s invention was later improved and marketed by Motorola. The handheld cellphone was called the DynaTAC 8000x. The phone weighed over two pounds, had 35 minutes of talk time, with eight hours of standby. It also had a recharging cycle of ten hours. The DynaTAC 8000x is known to everyone as the original brick phone. The phone could only store up to 30 numbers and retailed for about $4,000. Even though the first cellphone had been developed and patented, no city wide commercial analogue cellular service had been established. In May of 1973, the Baharain Telephone Company is assumed to have established the first city wide commercial analogue cellular system. This cellular system only had two working cells and was restricted to twenty channels. The cellular system was supporting 250 subscribers in spite of its small system. Not falling far behind was Japan who was next in line. Japan followed with the operator Nippon Telephone and Telegraph. With this they presented the first generation cellular service into Tokyo in 1979. In 1981, just shortly after Japan, cellular service became available in Northern Europe. The Nordic Mobile Telephone Service went into act across the Nordic countries of northeastern Europe. Those Nordic countries include: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and a few related islands and territories such as Greenland. In 1985, Western Europe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His interest first begun through the documentation of the natural environment using photography as his medium. However, it wasn t long until Fuss began using less contemporary photographic methods to document his unique view on the world. Leaving the camera behind entirely he takes a contemporary approach on the earliest techniques known to photographyfrom daguerreotype to the photogram. Adams s best known for his book Summer Nights, Walking uses the medium of photography in a much more documentary style capturing what he sees and how he sees it. This traditional approach could be what triggered the response to Fuss s image. In response to the criticism Adam Fuss questions the difference between eating animals for nourishment and survival as a necessary part of our society and art being just as a valuable and fundamental in to our culture. The argument of offence is one not aimed directly at the use of visceral rabbits but rather the method in which the artist creates the imagery. Instead of a traditional use of cameras he turns to alternative forms but still considers the imagery photographs. The images go far beyond those of previous photograms adding texture, colour and movement to a technique and method which had been almost forgotten. The moral implications which come as a result of using rabbits as materials shows a slow desensitisation towards death and decay, this could be what the artist Adams was referring to in his criticism aimed at the ... • 43. Ambiguity In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Literary translation seeks to recreate an original work in a new language using the tools available in the target language. In order to recreate a story, the translator must first interpret its meaning. This proves to be a challenge as the nature of literary works is such that they often lend themselves to multiple interpretations, either due to deliberate or unintentional ambiguity in the text. In the case of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author crafted a complex story filled with ambiguity. What are, then, translators to do when faced with the momentous task of translating an important piece of American literature like Young Goodman Brown? They must undoubtedly turn to literary criticism, which seeks to produce in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the translator is unaware of the multifunctionality of the name, he or she will not be able to recreate it in the target text. If Goodman is kept in the original English, the target audience might perceive it as a first name. Furthermore, the repetition of the word good in the language understood by the reader will be lost, and so the irony will not be reinforced every time the word Goodman is encountered. In Spanish, for example, translating Goodman as buen hombre (good man), which is a form of address used for a kind and honest man, would allow the character to be every man, as he would bear no first name. Furthermore, by allowing readers to have access to the repetition of the word good in their language, they are being granted the opportunity to find the sense of irony for themselves. The Puritan preoccupation with Good and Evil manifested itself in the religion s condemnation of witchcraft. Hawthorne uses uncountable references to witchcraft and its association with sexuality, debauchery and carnal abandon (Hoffman 163). One example of sexual imagery comes from the speech of the sable figure leading the witch s sabbath in the forest. The figure uses the words bed chamber, stain, blood, penetrate, bosom, and sin to talk about man s evil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. A Penny Saved A penny saved is a penny earned is one of the most well known sayings in American culture, or, perhaps, used to be one of the most well known sayings in America. According to Jenny Che, an associate business editor at The Huffington Post, America has a serious problem when it comes to financial literacy and the problem starts with the kids in the schoolsystem who are not being taught how to manage money. Che states in her April 2016 blog post titled, America Is Not Teaching Kids How To Manage Money. And That s A Problem, that the United States was ranked far lower than most people would expect when it comes to financial literacy, and little is being done to resolve this issue. Through alarming observations and data, Che successfully makes her point: America is not integrating financial curriculum into their educationsystem, and this must change. Although Che s post is fewer than 500 words, she presents an impressive amount of well supported information. A large portion of her post focuses on recent studies and research to back her argument, building ethos. All of the sources have been published in very recent years, adding a consistent and current time period to her argument. She poses statistics such as the amount of debt American students have accumulated, the staggering number of people who are behind on their loan payments, and the small number of schools who are actively incorporating financial education curriculum into their system. She references an extensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Comparing Gospels And Pride And Prejudice The Gospels, by unknown authors, and Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, are two very different works. The former is a text crafted in order to spread Christianity around the world, while the latter is a novel for noble women to read in their leisure during the Regency Era. The two texts have some similarities, however, and the most poignant of these involve gossip and rumor. Rumor is crucial to the characters in the Gospels and in Pride and Prejudicebecause it becomes their news, their fact, their social status, their knowledge, and their power. Without it, the characters would have no connection to each other or the world around them. Peoples lives revolve around the gossip they hear and read in the two works, and the way this gossip... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that something happened is not important unless it is recognized and glorified as such. For example, Jesus acknowledges the importance of doing acts in front of others and therefore spreading the rumor of those deeds when he says, I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe you sent me (John 11, 42). This shows the need to recognize something happening before it can become important. In Pride and Prejudice, something is not acknowledged as an event unless it is talked about in front of others. For example, Mrs. Bennet had to be sure to tell everyone that Bingley danced with Jane the most at the ball, or else it would not have been recognized as an event (p. 8). Also, the ladies always have to go Longbourn after a ball to discuss the evening s happenings with the Lucases so they can gossip about the events of the evening, thus establishing them as important (p. 14). Not only is recognizing something as an event essential in the works, but rumor can become the event itself. In the Gospels, word, or rumor, becomes God. John opens with the line, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1, 2). This shows that as people spread the word, it not only informs people about God, but it becomes God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Manhood In The Film, Magnolia No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to serve somebody else than it is to serve himself Woodrow Wilson. What truly classifies a man as manly ? To some, manhood is a sense of authority over others, and to others, manhood is shown by love, compassion, and providing security for those around them. Portrayed as a fast paced film, Magnolia depicts a story of shattered families, unforeseen relations, catastrophe, second chances, and differences in life choices. Freshly fallen ash particles can have acid coatings which may cause irritation to the lungs and eyes. This acid coating is rapidly removed by rain, which may then pollute local water supplies. Acidic ash can also damage vegetation, leading to crop failure. People can be more fearful of the health hazards of volcanic ash and gases than of the risk of dying from more major hazards, such as pyroclastic flows. However, ashfalls can affect very wide areas around volcanoes and may cause major disruption to normal living.Medical services can expect an increase in the number of patients with respiratory and eye symptoms during and after an ashfall event. Effects of ash on health may be divided into several categories: respiratory effects, eye symptoms, and skin irritation. In some eruptions, ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the lungs. With high exposure, even healthy individuals will experience chest discomfort with increased coughing and irritation. In rare circumstances, long term exposure to fine volcanic ash may lead to serious lung diseases. For these diseases to occur, the ash must be very fine, contain crystalline silica (for the disease silicosis to occur) and the people must be exposed to the ash in high concentrations over many years. Exposure to crystalline silica in volcanic ash is typically of short duration (days to weeks), and studies suggest that the recommended exposure limits (similar in most countries) can be exceeded for short periods of time for the general population. People suffering from asthma or other lung problems such as bronchitis and emphysema, and severe heart problems are most at risk. The development of respiratory symptoms from the inhalation of volcanic ash depends on a number of factors. These include the concentration of particles in the air, the proportion of fine particles in the ash, the frequency and duration of exposure, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
