Positive Effects Of Hallmark Events
Hallmark events are one time or recurring events that are usually characterised by positive image
and uniqueness of the destination, high level of media exposure and being referred to as mega or
special events. Hallmark events can include cultural, political, religious, commercial and sports
events of international status. The aim of this event is to gain competitive advantage, create
interest, attract attention and to ensure high prominence in the tourism market (Page Connell, 2014).
The FIFA World Cupis one of the largest and most prestigious sporting hallmark events in the
world and it has a great influence on economy, society and environment of the host country (FIFA
World Cup, 2014). Hallmark events such as the World Cup have an... Show more content on

However, as discussed in this study, hallmark events not always bring only positive effects. For
example, in 2010 South Africa hosted less tourists as it was predicted and faced intense public
investment, as a result there has been a consequent fall in GDP. Although, the Olympic Games in
London in 2012 had more positive impacts, such as economy growth through the job generation,
investments and additional spending by tourists (Bevan, 2014). At the moment, it seems that the
FIFA World Cup did not boost Brazilian economy, however, it raised an awareness about the
difficulties that Brazil is facing, such as human trafficking and increasing level of poverty. It can be
stated that several year must past in order to see the real outcome of the tournament, because at the
moment, it seems that the FIFA World Cup did not improve ecological situation of Brazil, did not
help the underclass to deal with the difficult living conditions, the level of child prostitution did not
dropped. Therefore, it seems that there is a bigger need in improving education system, health care
and living conditions of society in general rather than in a new stadium or a hotel. The enormous
amount of money that has been spent on the World Cup could bring a significant change in the
lives of the local people and make a great stride towards better

Feminist Analysis Of Paradise Lost By John Milton

Feminist Analysis of Paradise Lost
The Book of Genesis is an introductive biblical passage in the Old Testament that summarizes the
creation of the universe, humanity, and the downfall of man. Writer John Milton gives an alternate
version of this phenomenon in his epic Paradise Lost that illustrates not only the consequences of
disobedience from God, but the distinct gender differences between men and women. Through the
perspective of feminist literary criticism, the portrayal of male domination and the inferiority of
women are exemplified by the status, stereotypes, and roles women are assigned in Literature that
has consequently transcended into western ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of the inferiority of women is illustrated in Book Two whereby Satan is
attracted to a beautiful woman who is half woman and half snake (Ricks 87). Emphasizing that her
lower half is a serpent suggests that the vaginal area of women, or the seductive parts, makes
women sly and fraudulent, a correlation to the snake found in the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, it is
noted that the creature is lured by the smell of infant blood, reinforcing the stereotypical role that
women are enslaved to the dynamics of motherhood.
When Satan planned his rebellion, his head burst into flames. The serpent woman, also known
as his daughter Sin, grew out of Satan s head because of his revolt. Sin can be compared to the
creation of Eve in that both women are created from their partners. Eve was created from Adam s
rib and Sin was created from Satan s head. Paradise Lost infers that women, who are symbolized
by Eve and Sin, could not have originated nor prosper without the help of a man and that women
are dependent on their male counterparts. In the epic, Sin and her father Satan conceive their son,
Death. Milton uses the names of Satan s children to illustrate that sin and death are the
consequences of disobedience from God. Moreover, Sin, a woman, is weaker than her male family
members. The incestuous act between Sin and Satan yields Sin to be

3.Designing the compensation plan for the DSE Maruti has defined the minimum amount that the
dealership has to pay the DSE but apart from maintaining this, dealership does not have a very
liberal compensation plan. The salary of a sales executive is less and the incentive plans are also
very strict and irregular which leads to a high attrition rate.
4.Limited Access to information while travelling or out of office: If an employee is not in office
either travelling or on leave then he does not have the access to the information system i.e. DMS,

Recommendation for improving sales process
1.The compensation plan preparations: Maruti should not only be involved in the determining the
lower limit of the salary of the sales executive but should be actively involved during the complete

the deserving performers are awarded and also it should monitor that these are followed

The Demon Lover Literary Analysis
In the realms of the World Wars, love is simply expressed through heartfelt words dancing across
the margins of decorative paper. In the short story, The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen, the main
character endures the hardships of retaining mental sanity when facing a past lover returning home
years later. In the same way, the poem Answers to Letters by Tomas Tranströmer explains in first
person point of view the overbearing weight of anxious thoughts arising from timeelapsing. Using
comparable symbols, The Demon Loverand Answers to Letters characters illustrate how unstable
weather patterns and faltering mental stability depict their roles in society, despite the roles of The
Demon Lover revolving around a supernatural force. Enduring the uncontrollable force above, the
weather illustrates the sudden intensities of the plot in The Demon Lover . Mrs. Drover embodies
the perfect illusion of a lovesick puppy , the weather mocking her as bright August sky. The couple
utters their goodbyes in the nearby garden. The emotions run high and promises of returning leave
the young soldier s lips with such devotion. According to author Elizabeth Bowen, the clouds have a
mind of their own: It was dark; they were saying good bye under a tree (348). The weather is
speaking beneath the words on the page, foreshadowing the turmoil that lies ahead. After years of
no contact, the letter arriving at the old London home throws Mrs. Drover off guard. The unaware

The porkers are victims of their own cuteness, however. Earlier this year several were found dead,
with tourists blamed for overfeeding them. Telegraph Travel spoke to the astronaut Chris Hadfield,
best known for his Bowie rendition on the ISS, in January, and asked him which Earthly place
looked most beautiful from his lofty orbit. The Bahamas are gorgeous, he replied. The deep trench
in the ocean floor called the Tongue of the Ocean, which comes between the islands, is the most
beautiful deep indigo colour. The Bahamas has a weight problem even more so than the US.
Almost 35 percent of the adult population are considered obese, according to the CIA s World
Factbook. For the US the figure is 33 per cent (in Britain it s 27 per cent). Only 12 places are
fatter, with American Samoa taking the biscuit (so to speak) on a whopping 74.6 percent.
Thanks to sprinters like Pauline Davis Thompson, Tonique Williams Darling and Shaunae
Miller, The Bahamas has won 14 Olympic medals. That works out at 33.9 per million residents
only Finland, Sweden and Hungary have a better per capita strike rate. OK, so The Bahamas
might only have around 10 branches. But with a population of 390,000, that works out at more
than 26 per million residents. Only three countries, the US, Canada and Monaco, have more
Starbucks per capita. The aquarium at the garish Atlantis Paradise Island resort encompasses 14
lagoons, eight million gallons of water and more than 50,000 aquatic animals from 250 species.
There s even a water slide that runs through the middle of it. The Bahamas needs you. Almost 20
percent of its GDP comes from tourism, a higher percentage than all but six places (Macau,
Maldives, British Virgin Islands, Aruba, Seychelles and Anguilla). In fact, the country attracts 3.7
overseas visitors each year for every resident, making it one of 51 nations where tourists

In Cold Blood Sparknotes
The book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote tells the true story of the murder of the Clutter
family, the events that lead to their murders, and the reasons behind the killer s motives. In 1959
Holcomb, Kansas the family was brutally killed by gunshot wounds while being tied up by Dick
Hickock and Perry Smith. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock at first get away with the murders.
They left little clues and had no personal connection to the murdered family. The residents of
Holcomb were deeply affected by the murders. The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat
plains of Western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call out there. The townspeople
viewed the Clutters as the family least likely in the town to be murdered. They became unable to
conceive that the killers were strangers. Many townspeople became anxious about their own
safety because they felt as if they could not trust their neighbors. Alvin Dewey was the lead
investigator who became obsessed with the murders. His need to find the killers became his
motive in life. He dedicated all of his time to this mysterious murder. As the book goes on, the
two killers move on with their lives. The book follows Dick Hickock and Perry Smith and their
travels to Mexico. It seemed as if the two men would never be caught and brought to... Show more

Examples Of Escape In Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption is a film that was directed by Frank Darabont. Shawshank Redemption
is a film about Andy Dufresne who goes to prison for a double murder that he did not commit
and serves two life sentences, Andy makes long lasting friendships at Shawshank Prison and has
many hobbies that he does. In Shawshank Redemption a major theme in this film is escape as it
is displayed through the film numerous times and in different formats such as film techniques
and characterization. Shawshank Redemption is a box office classic and it has been referred to
as the best film ever made. A scene where escape was featured heavily is when Andy and his
friends were tarring a roof as Red had bribed the guards to put them up there. Andy was listening to

Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a
stormy night Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a rock of concrete while it is masked by the
sound of thunder. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and
characterization. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he
was baptised because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also
escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering
schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in
this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then
switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the rock
against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the
edge of their seats. This scene if very important to the story because this when Andy literally escapes
from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene is very important to his characterization. In
conclusion, Shawshank Redemption used characterization and film techniques to display Escape
through Andy and the people around successfully. Personally I really enjoyed watching Shawshank
Redemption because the film used a lot of thought provoking themes and shows how being a

Six Walks In The Fictional Woods
Umberto Eco in his book Six Walks in the Fictional Woods discusses several literature theories,
which he originally told to students at the Harvard University. I, mostly, enjoyed reading it,
because his vision of literature, his thoughts about books, authors, readers are different from
mine, and that is one of the reasons why it is interesting. Of course, I did not understand
everything, because Eco uses lots of unknown to me terminology and because of lack of
experience from my side in literature and life. To begin with, I wanted to speak a little bit about
two definitions from his first lecture Entering the Woods. Eco, there introduces a model reader. But
what exactly does it mean? According to Eco, model reader a sort of ideal type whom the text...

Is it good or bad? I think no because everyone thinks differently, everyone chooses their own path.
So do I. It is up to me, what I will choose, where I will go, what I will think about. It is like
walking in the woods (about what Eco told in his lecture), where are lots of trails, paths and
every one of them will lead a reader to a whole different thing. It does not matter, will it be wrong
or correct, because we all make mistakes and we all learn from them, it is right for me while
walking in the wood to use every experience and every discovery to learn about life, about the
past and the future (p. 9). If I will choose incorrect path while reading, if I will come to a
deadlock with understanding a text, later on, I will go back to the beginning and try another
path. But if in literature we are able to go back and start from the beginning, in real life it is
mostly impossible. That s why I think books are a good place to make mistakes, to try different
paths, to choose the correct one, to gain more experience. But this is not what I wanted to

Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will voluntarily help
another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for altruistic behaviour is seen as a
desire to improve the welfare of another person rather than the anticipation of some reward or for
any other reason that might indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has
been determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of egoism.

However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left) then those in
the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely than those in the high
empathy condition.
However, it is possible that people who help in such situations do so to avoid punishment, such as
social disapproval that could arise as a result of not helping. To test that, further research where the
potential for negative social evaluation was manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not
appear to explain why empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al)
The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing negative states,
we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which is personally rewarding.
People learn during childhood that helping others is a positive behaviour that will make them feel
good about themselves. Therefore, the motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on
the anticipated emotional consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears
altruistic is actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where
participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and

The Lawn At The University Of Virginia And Ix Art Park
Influences of planning theorists are evident in The Lawn at the University of Virginia and IX Art
Park in downtown Charlottesville by examining the sites designs, activities, and users.
Thomas Jefferson designed a university to promote higher education which he called his
Academic Village, and the Lawn was the center of his design. He wanted to create a university
where everybody could not only learn and study, but also live together. Therefore, he designed
pavilions which served as houses and classrooms for teachers and rooms for students that were all
connected to each other. Furthermore, everybody had a view towards a green space called the
Lawn. Jefferson s interest in architecture influenced his design for the Academic Village. The layout
of the Village with the central lawn was inspired by French hospital planning and the surrounding
structures were inspired by Roman architecture. Jefferson aimed to create a place that was
practical, healthy, and educational. Construction began in 1817, and the university opened in
March 1825 with Jefferson s selected faculty and 123 students. Jefferson s Academic Village
expanded after his death into a larger campus, now known as the University of Virginia. Students
and faculty continue to live in rooms around the Lawn and classes are still taught in the pavilions.
Brian Wimer, a local filmmaker, proposed the idea of transforming an industrial site of a closed

In the year of 1989, the People s Republic of China remains under a communist regime. As the

Tiananmen has had very little effect on China in 2017, but in the years following 1989, China
was in turmoil. As factions began to rise within the CCP and the thought of their lost loved ones
are still fresh in people s minds, a threat of yet another movement was growing. Fueled by their
fear of revolution, China s government unifies its members under a single mission, to eliminate
and destroy all information on Tiananmen. A purge begins of all documents and articles of
Tiananmen. Over the decades, China has hidden and censored many articles, websites, media,
etc about Tiananmen from its people and has killed many who dared to talk of the June Fourth
Incident and anything else the CCP sees as undesirable. For example, in 1996 Falun Gong, a
popular buddhist practice that embodies the ideals of peace, balance and harmony, grew
extremely popular. Falun Gong was mainly practiced through meditation and involved peaceful
practices, but the CCP feared that it would grow too popular and eventually turn into a political
rival. To prevent being overthrown, the CCP punished anyone who dare to practice Falun Gong
within the People s Republic of China (PRC) by beating them and torturing them. The photos of
the victims of this brutal persecution caused fear to spark in the country and as a result of this
terror, not one person of the 1.381 billion people that inhabit Chinese soil talk about the protests or
anything that the CCP dislikes as the sword of death is always hanging precariously above their

Analysis of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft Mary Wollstonecraft,
most famously known as the first feminist , was born in London on April 27, 1759. She was

women s rights. In her book, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
, Mary Wollstonecraft uses
examples of ethos, pathos, and logos to extend her argument that women should have individual
rights, especially in education. Wollstonecraft uses ethos to convey her position that women should

Functions Of A Cilia Of Cilia And Contractile And Motor...
The various known functions of a cilia are to circulate fluids, move eggs into the oviduct, line
air passages to sweep out mucus that contain bacteria, and many more (Erster Lecture 6). Cilia
are about 2 20 um long, and they are extensions of cells that perform in locomotion (Campbell
pg. 12). They can be found in multiple eukaryotes such as Paramecium (which are found in pond
water) to humans. In the single celled organism, Paramecium, the cilia helps propel it through
the water. As for humans, the cells in the our windpipes are lined up with cilia and they prevent
the lungs from bacteria by sweeping a film of debris trapping mucus upward (Campbell pg. 12).
Various proteins within the body has they own function, and the contractile and motor proteins are
responsible for the movements of cilia and flagella (Campbell pg. 76). CIlia must be motile in
order for them to perform their functions, thus when the cilia are immotile, a syndrome known as
Kartagener s develops through the rare genetic disorder of the immotile cilia. Since cilia deals
with motion, when males are afflicted with Kartagener s syndrome they become sterile from the
immotile sperm, and they often also suffer from lung infections (Campbell pg. 118). However, this
syndrome can also affect females. It can lead to infections at the nasal sinuses and bronchi for both
genders. An interesting effect of Kartagener s is situs inversus, which is the reversal of the normal

Comparing Artemisia Gentileschi And Leonardo Da Vinci
Everyone knows Leonardo da Vinci, but do you know Artemisia Gentileschi? Women in the
renaissance, no matter how talented, were always degraded by men. These two admirable artists
both helped society by creating new painting techniques and many more new artistic skills.
However they both came from very different backgrounds and both were treated in different ways.
Artemisia Gentileschi, was the daughter of a major follower of revolutionary paintings. In her
early years she developed a love of painting and begged her father to become a pupil of a
landscape painter. The painter was a friend of her father s and reluctantly agreed. Her first work
of art was a biblical image. Susanna and the Elders ( Artemisia Gentileschi ). Leonardo da Vinci on

HC Brakes
Ryan faced several barriers for any meaningful change to happen. He was unable to implement TQM
into VC Brakes because of the organization structure (unresponsive management finger pointing
culture). Ryan was unable to break the divider between management and lower level employees to
make progress with TQM. Managementoften ignored employees, for example, the floor workers
knew what they needed but management refused to listen and stood in the way of these needs
(Cespedes, 2013). There was a lack of good leadershipto lead change and a sense of urgency.
One of the strongest drivers of change at VC Brakes was Ryan s dedication for change leadership.
Ryan was effective as the senior manager of the engineering services team (ES). However,

Rico Act Essay
The term Rico Act stands for the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act,
Codified as chapter 96, Title 18, of the United States Code which was passed by Congress in
1970. The purpose of the Act was to eliminate the ill affects of organized crimeon the nation s
economy. The Rico Act provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause of action for acts

Those found guilty of racketeering can be fined up to $25,000 and sentenced to 20 years in
prison per racketeering count. In addition, the racketeer must forfeit all ill gotten gains and
interest in any business gained through a pattern of racketeering activity. RICO also permits a
private individual harmed by the actions of such an enterprise to file a civil lawsuit and collect
monetary damages. Despite its harsh provisions, a RICO related charge is considered easy to
prove in court, as it focuses on patterns of behavior as opposed to criminal acts.
Although some of the RICO predicate acts are extortion and blackmail, one of the most successful
applications of the RICO laws has been the ability to indict or sanction individuals for their behavior
and actions committed against witnesses and victims in alleged retaliation or retribution for
cooperating with federal law enforcement or intelligence agencies. Unfortunately, due to the
complexity of bringing organized crime members to justice, ten years passed before the first RICO
convictions were obtained. Throughout the 1970s crime families continually fought for power over
the many racketeering enterprises that brought in huge sums of money. The National Conference
on Organized Crime in 1975 estimated that mob

Greek Burial
Burials are one of the most used archaeological sites for scholars to gain insight and information on
all civilizations, and in this case Greek civilizations. In his book Ethnic Identity, Stuart Hall makes a
strong argument illustrating that social structures may be articulated and projected through
funerary ritual and this may be undeniable (). Greek burialcustoms depict a parallel with society and
their standards of living throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period,
the changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials.
Beginning with Bronze Age Greece, Heinrich Schliemann found and excavated one of the two most
popular shaft graves from the period. In Mycenae Heinrich Schliemann found ... Show more content

America, The Land Of Opportunity
Henry Schineller

American Literature
21 May, 2016
Rough Draft America, the land of opportunity. A majestic land where barriers are broken and
dreams are made into reality. A land where anything is possible with a little hard work and
determination. One may ask what makes a place this possible. The answer to that question is the
people. Americans have a certain way about them that makes them different from any other people
on earth. All Americans are heroes in some way, but a select few stand out in history as the most
influential. One such individual is Jackie Robinson. Robinson redefined racial stereotypes by
becoming the first African American baseballplayer to play in the Major League. Through his
courage, determination, and perseverance, his legacy still continues to this date. One could argue
numerous reasons that constitute Jackie Robinson as an American hero, but four stand out among
the rest. Those reasons being that he fought for what he believed was right, overcame adversity,
conquered many athletic feats, and had a lasting legacy. For these reasons Jackie Robinson truly
embodies an American hero. The definition of a hero is: a person who is admired for great or
brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam Webster). An American hero is someone who, yes follows this
definition, but completes it in a way that furthers America as a nation. A true American hero leaves
a lasting impression that will be remembered for generations to come. An American hero must

The Causes Of The 1848 Revolution In Krefeld
The 1848 Revolution
The city of Krefeld (Crefeld) is famous for its textile industry, supplying silk and velvet to many
countries. In Krefeld the silk, velvet and dyeing industries are dominant. The Kramer family is
living here in 1848 when revolution explodes throughout many European cities. This crisis starts
with a major crop failure leading to a famine in 1846 and 1847 that has important and cumulative
effects throughout society. The cost of food rises steeply in Krefeld and in other towns
throughout Europe. It reduces the purchasing power available for other products such as
clothing, driving many businesses into bankruptcy. Textile towns like Krefeld are devastated as
markets collapse and creditors call in their loans. Bankruptcies cause severe pressure on the
banks, some of which suspend activities early in 1848, placing Krefeld s businesses and
thousands of its workers at risk. Adding to the problem is the growing unemployment in Krefeld.
There are bread riots and other forms of violent collective action in cities across Europe. The
economic crisis erodes trust in the government of Prussia. Riots spread throughout the Prussian
cities including Bonn, Berlin and Krefeld. These riots are led by the lower class workers
demanding an end to the high price of food and to their oppressive working conditions. Joining,
and in some cases leading the riots, is the middle class.* The middle class, led by doctors, lawyers
and merchants, are voicing a completely different set of

in many different ways. The main person that this theme relates to is Macbeth, specifically when he
makes decisions on how to become king and take over Scotland.
In the beginning of the play, Macbeth starts out as the Thane of Glamis. It appears that he will
become a great fearless leader in this position. In act one, the witches tell Macbeth the first set of
prophecies. They tell him that he will become king of Scotland one day and is going to be named
the Thane of Cawdor in the meantime. All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail,

The Importance Of Computational Thinking
Introduction
Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer science researcher
at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems where computing is part of the
solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in almost all areas of society expanding our
understanding of the world. Problem solving using the power of computers requires teaching
students how to confront problems in a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her
article Computational Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill,
just like reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33).
Fundamental Skill
Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of computers in
learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the early 1960s recognized that
computers could be used not just to deliver information and instruction, but also to transform
learning. He was a pioneer of children using computers as instruments for learning and for
enhancing creativity, innovation, and concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert)
Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four years of work
under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology, University of Geneva.
Piaget s influences are evident in Papert s work on how children create a sense of their world.

This is a risk that can be understood and managed with proper thought and investment. Political
risks are the complications businesses and governments may face as a result of political
decisions or any political change that changes the expected outcome and value of a given
economic action by changing the probability of achieving business objectives. Political risk
faced by firms can be defined as the risk of a strategic, financial, or personnel loss for a firm
because of such nonmarket factors as macroeconomic and social policies (fiscal, monetary, trade,
investment, industrial, income, labour, and developmental), or events related to political
instability (terrorism, riots, coups, civil war, and insurrection). For a business, the implication for
political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood that political events may complicate its pursuit
of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity
cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an expected value such that the likelihood of a
political event occurring may reduce the desirability of that investment by reducing its anticipated
returns. There are both macro and micro level political risks. Macro level political risk looks at non
project specific risks. Types of risk include government currency actions, regulatory changes,
sovereign credit defaults, corruption, war declarations and government

Philosophy Final Essay
PHIL 101 Introduction to Philosophy
Final Essay
Topic: Compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, as
outlined in Chapter 4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions? Which
one do you believe is the most likely to be correct? Why?
In the Philosophy, Determinism has many different categories. Actually according to the textbook,
the Determinism is the view that every event, including human actions, are brought about by
previous events in accordance with the natural laws that govern the world. Human freedom is an
illusion. Jewish philosopher Baruch Spinoza does not deny that people s wishes and desires will

Human factors are involved wildly in human behaviors and various social systems, including
social laws and religion doctrines. Just like what I mentioned previously, scientists believe that the
human life is pre determined and human s behavior is inevitable. They consider that if someone
has all the information of one person, he or she may get to know how he or she is going to
change in advance. But from the point of view throughout the history of human society people
often turn to emphasize personal responsibility. Law and legal penalties for criminals act based
entirely on the idea of individual free will . Most Jewish and Christian also believed that individuals
should be responsible for the crime and suspects should be punished. We can imagine a psychology
professor who believes determinism would say to a student: You have to concentrate to your study,
otherwise you will get nothing! You can see the contradiction of human behaviors from this typical
and ironic statement above, and notice that there exists a deviation between theoretical knowledge
and actual human behaviors.
At the same time, the Libertarians believe that people have free will , and there are no such
inevitable results of those behaviors that are controlled by free will . Libertarianism has different
meanings in different academic fields. From the general level, the libertarianism refers to people s
ability to decide whether or not to do something according to their

The Beat Generation Subculture Essay
The Beat Generation Subculture
Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s
standards of behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these
standards and rebels against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified
this behavior formed. They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly
remarkable because although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural
influence was enormous. The beats rebelled against things like conformity and consumerism in the
post World War II society. Their writing challenged both traditional American values and
contemporary writing styles. Incorporating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many writers in the group later renounced the term when they felt it lost its meaning. It took the
beats a long time before they gained fame however. Jack Kerouac s novel, On the Road, went
through many different publishers before anyone agreed to print it. When it did come out it was
heavily criticized by the press. In the 1950 s the lifestyle that On the Road explored was
considered deviant. The stereotype that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik,
dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta,
2001). America s youth, however, identified with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom
expressed in their work. The beats created a revolution that began with many young people leaving
their conventional lives to hitchhike around American and find themselves. Like most subcultures,
the Beat Generation rebelled against the social and cultural norms of their time. For them it was the
post World War II society that they rejected. Cultural historians point out that acquisition of
consumer goods, which had been scarce during wartime, became a central feature of postwar life,
driven by the mass media, advertising, and generous loan terms (Encarta, 2001). The

Comparing The Logger Pro Software And Lab Pro Interface
Objective: The objective of the lab is to become familiar with the Logger Pro software and Lab
Pro interface in order to collect data. This lab will teach how to average constant data and find the
standard deviation, as well as how to use the Statistics and Linear Fit tools. It will also introduce
using Excel to create tables and graphs.
Theory: A thermometer, a device used to measure temperature, was used in this lab to collect data.
The thermometer works by reaching thermal equilibrium with the object that is being measured.
Heat transfers from the object with a higher temperature to the object with a lower temperature,
which causes the temperature reading on the thermometer to change. This can be described by
Newton s Law of Heating and Cooling, which states that the rate of an object s temperature change
is proportional to the difference between the object s temperature and the temperature of its
environment. This predication can be seen in the equation: О”T/О”t= k (T T0) (Equation 1) О”T
/О”t is the change is temperature over the change in time, and T0 is the temperature of the object.
The temperature will continue to change until a thermal equilibrium is reached. In this lab, the
temperature of the air (T0=Tair) and the temperature of a hand (T0=Thand) will be measured.
Procedure: A digital thermometer is connected to the Lab Pro interface, which allows the Logger
Pro software to collect data and show the readings on a graph on the computer. Room temperature is

Impact Of The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) On The...
Few environmentalists have positive things to say on the impact of the World Trade Organization
(WTO) on the environment. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant
impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international
coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition
of electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on
environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The
tensions between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
(GATT) of 1947, which pre dated the WTO. Under the
GATT 1947, trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels.
The WTO Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which
to resolve such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain
historically deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the
Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and
Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications
for domestic environmental decision making, a subset of domestic regulation. The expectation was
that the depolitization of WTO disputes would afford more

Sales management is connected with purchasing management and inventory control to provide
better analysis of the data. The software supports controls of purchasing materials, orders, goods
receipt and payment.
INVENTORY CONTROL (IC)
The inventory control in Emfibia Limited is another important area. The company has to have
organised importation by having large numbers of inventory. Therefore, the company can start
losing the capital. This is why they require appropriate analysis with stock valuation and the
movement of the goods. Sage ERP X3 runs on similar principles to manual ones, but this software is
more flexible and it is possible to receive the information in real time. Inventory Control is closely
connected with the manufacturing management. The software uses Kanban method of Just in Time
production. The information can be grouped by cost centres, price lists. The important tool is to
forecast the future cost. When the company will prepare new production in six months time, the
software can analyze the actual cost of the production.

Accounting Differences Between Profit And Not For Profit...
Hospitals, schools, religious organizations, and charitable organizations are all not for profit
organizations. Not for profits are either member serving or community serving and focus on
providing services to either the members or the community and does not exist to make a profit.
Furthering their cause is more important than making a profit. Member serving organizations
include credit unions, sports clubs, trade unions, retired serviceman s clubs and their responsibility
is to benefit its own members. Community serving organizations can be local or global, and
includes aid and developments programs, medical research, and education and health services.
This paper will look at the accounting differences between for profit and not for profit

of directors, many have paid staff some use volunteers. Not for profits can generate excess revenues
but they aren t divided to shareholders as for profit organizations, they must be retained for the

Internal Auditing And External Auditing Industry Essay
In the last decade, the world of business has been subjected to significant changes. Globalization
has given a new meaning to the way in which business is now conducted; i.e. business in a world
devoid of geographical boundaries or time zones. Global expansion has also given rise to many
emerging firms and laid the foundations for fierce competition amongst existing industries. Internal
auditingis no exception. In order not to face complacency or obsolescence, the internal auditing
industry has to be proactive and adapt to changing market trends.
Indeed, the possibilities available to internal auditing in our current global economic climate are
limitless. Nevertheless, for the auditing industry to remain successful in today s fast paced world,
it has exploit every resource and turn it into a profitable venture. For instance, one of the driving
forces of globalization is the increased use of technology in all kinds of business and trade

one person who was left handed and one who was right which also means that there was two

Han Dynasty And The Western Roman Empire
Although in different regions of the world and with cultural differences, the same problems
plagued both the Han Dynasty and the Western Roman Empire, significantly contributed to their
downfall. Some similar causes were pressure from barbarians and poor leadership which affected s
their empires. However similar, they were starkly different in areas such as the religious divide that
served to weaken Western Rome that did not exist in China.
One factor they played a role in the fall of both empires was poor leadership in their empires.
During the final days of Western Rome, there was no strong unifying leader in place due to the
number of generals that would claim leader then be quickly killed off. Rome s military were only
loyal to their generals, and when the generals would gather the power to overthrow the current rule,
they were not well received by the public or the rest of the army. They did not unify they public and
the government under strong rule, causing discord and distrust amongst the people. This lead to
many revolts and needless violence that hurt the empire. Similarly, in the Han Dynasty, the lack of
strong leaders caused people to become unsatisfied with their government. The people did not
follow the will of their leaders and the aristocrats refused to pay taxes and support the government.
Like Rome, this lack of poor leadership lead to revolts and needless violence that would ultimately
hurt their citizens, military, and entirety of their empires.

Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation ( Coh )
Introduction Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) is known to be an important component
in the success of in vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF ET). In COH procedure, in order to
suppress and prevent premature luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, GnRH agonists and antagonists
are often applied. During the assisted reproduction technologies (ARTs), controlled ovarian
hyperstimulation (COH) is often applied to stimulate multiple follicular development followed by
ovulation induction with an ovulatory trigger before oocyte collection and fertilization. It is
increasingly appreciated that such exogenous hormonal stimulation for ARTs results in the
environment of supra physiological level of steroid hormone and may be detrimental to endometrial
receptivity. Although no significant differences in oocyte quality or embryo quality were found
between patients treated with GnRH agonist or GnRH antagonist, the data regarding the impact of
these protocols on endometrial receptivity are still controversial. Impaired endometrial receptivity
has been recognizied as the main problem to success in ART once all other factors have been
optimized. Several studies have been done to directly assess endometrial receptivity, including
histologic dating, endometrial sex steroid receptor concentrations, scanning electron microscopy
assessing pinopod expression, and more recently, the role of cytokines, growth factors, integrin
molecules, genomic, proteomic and lipidomic targets have been

they could go about their day differently. there are only some jewish people that still live very
traditionally like they use to in the old days. If you go through a typical day of a jewish person
this is what you would find out. When they wake up in the morning they say their daily prayer,
called service of the heart which means the first conscious thought of the day. After they say
their prayer they get ready for the day and they go to work. For breakfast and all meals through
out the day, they must be Kosher. Kosher is a way of preparation of food, for a food to be
kosher it must be prepared and presented in a way that god had intended it for. This means that if
you have dinner meats and vegetables and all separate foods must be separated. Now days most
Jewish people cook their food in the same kitchen just

Disease is worldwide. Some, unfortunately, may continue to be a problem for decades or centuries
to come. Cholera is one disease that continues to disrupt parts of the world. Cholera is death by
diarrhea (Symington, 2011). It is a potentially severe disease that affects the digestive system,
leading to extreme dehydration with the possibility of death within hours (Symington, 2011). The
culprit responsible for this particular plague is the bacteria Vibrios cholerae (Kraft, 2010).
Symptoms of cholerahave been traced as far back as ancient Greek times and Sanskrit writings
(Pukatzki Provenzano, 2013). Between 1817 and 1961 there have been seven pandemic outbreaks
that killed millions of people (Cable News Network, 2013.). In the... Show more content on

The cells are highly motile via means of a single, polar flagellum (Todar, n.d.). Vibrios are found
most often in marine and freshwater environments but prefer a slightly salty venue for prime
growth to occur (Todar, n.d.). V. cholerae is part of the plankton ecosystem therefore it can easily
move through multiple environments (Kraft, 2010). The bacteria also form biofilm colonies by
blanketing the surface of rocks, plants, shells and the like, within their watery surroundings (Kraft,
2010). Cholera appears to affect only humans (Finkelstein, 1996). It mostly targets people who live
in countries lacking proper sanitation systems and/or safe drinking water (Sack, Lyke, McLaughlin,
Suwanvanichkij, 2001). The disease is typically scarce in industrialized populations (Cable News
Network, 2013). The main mode of V. cholerae transmission is the consumption of food or water
containing fecal contaminated bacteria (Sack et al., 2001). The bacteria can be transferred through
food tainted by infected people who have inadequate hygiene methods after going to the bathroom
or by improperly prepared foods, such as shellfish obtained from contaminated waters (Symington,
2011). Often it is difficult to distinguish between water and food as the source of contamination due
to the fact that water frequently contaminates food (Sack et al., 2001). More bacteria enter our
environment through waste each time a

Cappella Chigi Essay
Beyond fiction, Into the Depths of Cappella Chigi
There isn t a specific year in history that could be pinpointed and said, This is when the
Renaissance started. The period of rebirth of the classic ideas is what we, more fondly and
famously identify as the period of Renaissance today. The European countries have been the central
station for this massively celebrated time of revival of knowledge either lost or forgotten. Italy
hosted the birth of the personalities, the present knows as the Renaissance Masters with Leonardo
Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, Fra Bartolomeo, Masaccio being some of the most
prominent figures. The period of Enlightenment that followed the Renaissance celebrated the ideas
revived in its preceding era. Rationalism, Individualism, Skepticism and so on were some of the
key features of this age, also called the Age of Reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chigi family headed by Agostino Chigi, a family of wealthy bankers rose to be the wealthiest
in Rome in the early years of the 1500s after steadily increasing in influence through the late
1400s. Agostino was a parton to a man of legend, Raffaelo Santi, better known as Raphael, who
was appointed to design a mausoleum for the heirs of his family after being allowed to purchase
a chapel in del Popolo by Pope Julius II. Raphael was a man with works like the series of
Madonnas and School of Athens to his name. Chigi Chapel started forming under the supervision
of Lorenzetto during the years of 1513 1514. Agostino and Raphael ill fatedly died in 1520
leaving the construction incomplete. Inevitably the construction had come to a near halt followed
by slow progression. In 1650, Fabio Chigi undertook the role to restore his family s mausoleum by
commissioning Bernini to finish the task which a span of several more years before it was finally

1984 And Brave New World Essay
Brave New World and 1984
As I read Brave New World and 1984, I noticed how some of Aldous Huxley and
George Orwell s prophecies are becoming true. As science and technology progresses,
we have the opportunity to alter few aspects of our lives, even though our freedom and
privacy may be in jeopardy.
In Brave New World, science allows babies to be artificially produced in a
laboratory. Nowadays, parents who cannot conceive children are also able to artificially
produce their children with the help of science and the genes of both parents. As science
advances, the parents may even be able to reform the genes of their baby in order to have

Even though it is not as
extreme as in the Brave New World, I feel that we are also being conditioned. It is more
obvious now. When we watch commercials on television, we are conditioned to buy the
products and believe that by buying that particular brand of clothing we will look better
and be well liked. The ads are harmless as long as we do not sacrifice the important idea
that we genuinely want the product and that we are still making the decision to buy it.
A similarity between Oceania, in 1984, and our country today is that the caste
system still exists. Most of the power belongs to the rich, or the Inner Party. The middle
class, or the Outer Party, are trying to become part of the higher class. While the poor, or
the Proles, are working hard in order to make ends meet and just want to be left alone.
Like Orwell, I feel that the caste system will always exist.
Also, the citizens of Oceania are constantly being monitored by the government.
We are also being monitored. There are cameras everywhere, even though most of the
time we are not aware of it. When we go to the store, the surveillance cameras are there
to make sure we do not steal anything. When we go to the bank, cameras are watching us
make our transactions. In some cities, cameras may also be watching us as we cross the
street or get into our car. What is next? Cameras in our homes?

The Success Of Real Estate Industry
Real estate is made up of land (all of the natural parts of land such as trees and water) and all
permanently attached fences and buildings. People use real estate for many different things,
including retailing, offices, manufacturing, housing, ranching, farming, churches, and
entertainment. The success of real estatedepends on many related factors such as the state of the
economy, demographics, transportation, management expertise and style, government regulations
and taxes, location, and climate. According to the Dictionary of American History, the objective of
those in the real estate industry is to create value by developing land or structures to sell or to
lease or by marketing real estate parcels and interests. The real estate... Show more content on

As a result sale prices and rent fall. The economic prosperity of the early 1900s brought a huge
expansion of real estate, especially in housing, but by the mid 1930s, 16 million people were
unemployed and the demand for real estate of all types declined precipitously. World War II
brought technological breakthroughs and therefore the demand of houses and other real estate
went up. The mortgage stability introduced by federal legislation following the Great Depression
and World War II greatly aided the huge expansion of suburban housing and shopping centers that
followed the war. The Dictionary of American History also says William Levitt started building
Levittown on Long Island in 1947, with around 17,000 standardized houses produced at the rate of
36 per day for a population of 82,000, and by 1955 this type of sub division represented 75% of
new housing. The 1950s also brought the development of hotel chains. Skyscraper office,
apartment, and hotel building construction continued after World War II in urban centers, driving
up their values (and profits).
Real estate plays an extremely important role in the U.S. economy. Real estate provides housing for
families (residential). For many of them, it is the most wealth and savings that they have.
Commercial real estate (including apartment buildings) creates

Use Of Flashbacks Analysis
Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept
I will be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks
are about. First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash
and what her personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not
know what happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe
does not want to live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she
has these feelings. Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read
more. Secondly, another reason on why the author uses flashbacks... Show more content on

She shows us on how she wants to fight and how she does not want to fight to wake up from her
coma. The nurses has been trying to give her encouragement and that it is her choice to stay
alive. An example from the book would be .... adjusts my IV and my monitors with the other.
Then she smooths a lock of hair from my forehead. You hang in there, she tells me (Foreman 22).
As one can see from this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she
has a chance to live if she believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she
will survive to wake up. Lastly, the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is
an extremely talented musician. Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live.
Mia lived in a household where rock and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was
quite unique and different out of her family because she took a liking to classical music and was
extremely skilled at playing the cello. Mia has succeeded the standards for her age in the cello and
she has auditioned for Juilliard in hoping that she will be one of the best. The author use the
flashback to show her growing up playing the cello and showing the audition for

This so called thing now has become a fashion statement as Women will always be on an endless
quest for that great pair of jeans because the denim industry keeps evolving and growing

now 42 years later it s still an issue. After all these years now they are the leading international
specialty retailer with five different brands. Behind the 3000 stores and 5 different brands come
134,000 employees. That is four times the population of Lichtenstein which is a small country
in the Swiss Alps. Such a large work force dedicated to the making of apparel brands really
stands out in the fashion industry and with this many designers, managers, sales associates, and
other leading roles Gap Inc. stands to make a difference in the way people dress. They are so
forward in their attempt to change the way of fashion that they have opened up new stores in new
countries such as Italy, China, and Australia, thus bringing once a pair of jeans to a multitude of

  • 2. Positive Effects Of Hallmark Events Hallmark events are one time or recurring events that are usually characterised by positive image and uniqueness of the destination, high level of media exposure and being referred to as mega or special events. Hallmark events can include cultural, political, religious, commercial and sports events of international status. The aim of this event is to gain competitive advantage, create interest, attract attention and to ensure high prominence in the tourism market (Page Connell, 2014). The FIFA World Cupis one of the largest and most prestigious sporting hallmark events in the world and it has a great influence on economy, society and environment of the host country (FIFA World Cup, 2014). Hallmark events such as the World Cup have an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as discussed in this study, hallmark events not always bring only positive effects. For example, in 2010 South Africa hosted less tourists as it was predicted and faced intense public investment, as a result there has been a consequent fall in GDP. Although, the Olympic Games in London in 2012 had more positive impacts, such as economy growth through the job generation, investments and additional spending by tourists (Bevan, 2014). At the moment, it seems that the FIFA World Cup did not boost Brazilian economy, however, it raised an awareness about the difficulties that Brazil is facing, such as human trafficking and increasing level of poverty. It can be stated that several year must past in order to see the real outcome of the tournament, because at the moment, it seems that the FIFA World Cup did not improve ecological situation of Brazil, did not help the underclass to deal with the difficult living conditions, the level of child prostitution did not dropped. Therefore, it seems that there is a bigger need in improving education system, health care and living conditions of society in general rather than in a new stadium or a hotel. The enormous amount of money that has been spent on the World Cup could bring a significant change in the lives of the local people and make a great stride towards better ... • 3. Feminist Analysis Of Paradise Lost By John Milton Akejah McLaughlin Professor Jennifer Rohrer Walsh HON 2010 7 November 2017 Feminist Analysis of Paradise Lost The Book of Genesis is an introductive biblical passage in the Old Testament that summarizes the creation of the universe, humanity, and the downfall of man. Writer John Milton gives an alternate version of this phenomenon in his epic Paradise Lost that illustrates not only the consequences of disobedience from God, but the distinct gender differences between men and women. Through the perspective of feminist literary criticism, the portrayal of male domination and the inferiority of women are exemplified by the status, stereotypes, and roles women are assigned in Literature that has consequently transcended into western ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example of the inferiority of women is illustrated in Book Two whereby Satan is attracted to a beautiful woman who is half woman and half snake (Ricks 87). Emphasizing that her lower half is a serpent suggests that the vaginal area of women, or the seductive parts, makes women sly and fraudulent, a correlation to the snake found in the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, it is noted that the creature is lured by the smell of infant blood, reinforcing the stereotypical role that women are enslaved to the dynamics of motherhood. When Satan planned his rebellion, his head burst into flames. The serpent woman, also known as his daughter Sin, grew out of Satan s head because of his revolt. Sin can be compared to the creation of Eve in that both women are created from their partners. Eve was created from Adam s rib and Sin was created from Satan s head. Paradise Lost infers that women, who are symbolized by Eve and Sin, could not have originated nor prosper without the help of a man and that women are dependent on their male counterparts. In the epic, Sin and her father Satan conceive their son, Death. Milton uses the names of Satan s children to illustrate that sin and death are the consequences of disobedience from God. Moreover, Sin, a woman, is weaker than her male family members. The incestuous act between Sin and Satan yields Sin to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Demon Lover Literary Analysis In the realms of the World Wars, love is simply expressed through heartfelt words dancing across the margins of decorative paper. In the short story, The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen, the main character endures the hardships of retaining mental sanity when facing a past lover returning home years later. In the same way, the poem Answers to Letters by Tomas TranstrГ¶mer explains in first person point of view the overbearing weight of anxious thoughts arising from timeelapsing. Using comparable symbols, The Demon Loverand Answers to Letters characters illustrate how unstable weather patterns and faltering mental stability depict their roles in society, despite the roles of The Demon Lover revolving around a supernatural force. Enduring the uncontrollable force above, the weather illustrates the sudden intensities of the plot in The Demon Lover . Mrs. Drover embodies the perfect illusion of a lovesick puppy , the weather mocking her as bright August sky. The couple utters their goodbyes in the nearby garden. The emotions run high and promises of returning leave the young soldier s lips with such devotion. According to author Elizabeth Bowen, the clouds have a mind of their own: It was dark; they were saying good bye under a tree (348). The weather is speaking beneath the words on the page, foreshadowing the turmoil that lies ahead. After years of no contact, the letter arriving at the old London home throws Mrs. Drover off guard. In Cold Blood Sparknotes The book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote tells the true story of the murder of the Clutter family, the events that lead to their murders, and the reasons behind the killer s motives. In 1959 Holcomb, Kansas the family was brutally killed by gunshot wounds while being tied up by Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock at first get away with the murders. They left little clues and had no personal connection to the murdered family. The residents of Holcomb were deeply affected by the murders. The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of Western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call out there. The townspeople viewed the Clutters as the family least likely in the town to be murdered. They became unable to conceive that the killers were strangers. Many townspeople became anxious about their own safety because they felt as if they could not trust their neighbors. Alvin Dewey was the lead investigator who became obsessed with the murders. His need to find the killers became his motive in life. He dedicated all of his time to this mysterious murder. As the book goes on, the two killers move on with their lives. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a stormy night Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a rock of concrete while it is masked by the sound of thunder. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and characterization. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was baptised because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the rock against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the edge of their seats. This scene if very important to the story because this when Andy literally escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene is very important to his characterization. In conclusion, Shawshank Redemption used characterization and film techniques to display Escape through Andy and the people around successfully. Six Walks In The Fictional Woods Umberto Eco in his book Six Walks in the Fictional Woods discusses several literature theories, which he originally told to students at the Harvard University. I, mostly, enjoyed reading it, because his vision of literature, his thoughts about books, authors, readers are different from mine, and that is one of the reasons why it is interesting. Of course, I did not understand everything, because Eco uses lots of unknown to me terminology and because of lack of experience from my side in literature and life. I think no because everyone thinks differently, everyone chooses their own path. So do I. It is up to me, what I will choose, where I will go, what I will think about. It is like walking in the woods (about what Eco told in his lecture), where are lots of trails, paths and every one of them will lead a reader to a whole different thing. It does not matter, will it be wrong or correct, because we all make mistakes and we all learn from them, it is right for me while walking in the wood to use every experience and every discovery to learn about life, about the past and the future (p. 9). If I will choose incorrect path while reading, if I will come to a deadlock with understanding a text, later on, I will go back to the beginning and try another path. But if in literature we are able to go back and start from the beginning, in real life it is mostly impossible. That s why I think books are a good place to make mistakes, to try different paths, to choose the correct one, to gain more experience. But this is not what I wanted to ... Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Essay Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Aim: To find out whether subjects will help opposite gender students faster than same sex helper would. Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will voluntarily help another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for altruistic behaviour is seen as a desire to improve the welfare of another person rather than the anticipation of some reward or for any other reason that might indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has been determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of egoism. However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left) then those in the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely than those in the high empathy condition. To test that, further research where the potential for negative social evaluation was manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not appear to explain why empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al) The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing negative states, we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which is personally rewarding. People learn during childhood that helping others is a positive behaviour that will make them feel good about themselves. Therefore, the motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on the anticipated emotional consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears altruistic is actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Lawn At The University Of Virginia And Ix Art Park Influences of planning theorists are evident in The Lawn at the University of Virginia and IX Art Park in downtown Charlottesville by examining the sites designs, activities, and users. Thomas Jefferson designed a university to promote higher education which he called his Academic Village, and the Lawn was the center of his design. He wanted to create a university where everybody could not only learn and study, but also live together. Therefore, he designed pavilions which served as houses and classrooms for teachers and rooms for students that were all connected to each other. Furthermore, everybody had a view towards a green space called the Lawn. Jefferson s interest in architecture influenced his design for the Academic Village. The layout of the Village with the central lawn was inspired by French hospital planning and the surrounding structures were inspired by Roman architecture. Jefferson aimed to create a place that was practical, healthy, and educational. Construction began in 1817, and the university opened in March 1825 with Jefferson s selected faculty and 123 students. Jefferson s Academic Village expanded after his death into a larger campus, now known as the University of Virginia. Students and faculty continue to live in rooms around the Lawn and classes are still taught in the pavilions. Tiananmen has had very little effect on China in 2017, but in the years following 1989, China was in turmoil. As factions began to rise within the CCP and the thought of their lost loved ones are still fresh in people s minds, a threat of yet another movement was growing. Fueled by their fear of revolution, China s government unifies its members under a single mission, to eliminate and destroy all information on Tiananmen. A purge begins of all documents and articles of Tiananmen. Over the decades, China has hidden and censored many articles, websites, media, etc about Tiananmen from its people and has killed many who dared to talk of the June Fourth Incident and anything else the CCP sees as undesirable. For example, in 1996 Falun Gong, a popular buddhist practice that embodies the ideals of peace, balance and harmony, grew extremely popular. Falun Gong was mainly practiced through meditation and involved peaceful practices, but the CCP feared that it would grow too popular and eventually turn into a political rival. To prevent being overthrown, the CCP punished anyone who dare to practice Falun Gong within the People s Republic of China (PRC) by beating them and torturing them. The photos of the victims of this brutal persecution caused fear to spark in the country and as a result of this terror, not one person of the 1.381 billion people that inhabit Chinese soil talk about the protests or anything that the CCP dislikes as the sword of death is always hanging precariously above their ... • 16. Functions Of A Cilia Of Cilia And Contractile And Motor... The various known functions of a cilia are to circulate fluids, move eggs into the oviduct, line air passages to sweep out mucus that contain bacteria, and many more (Erster Lecture 6). Cilia are about 2 20 um long, and they are extensions of cells that perform in locomotion (Campbell pg. 12). They can be found in multiple eukaryotes such as Paramecium (which are found in pond water) to humans. In the single celled organism, Paramecium, the cilia helps propel it through the water. As for humans, the cells in the our windpipes are lined up with cilia and they prevent the lungs from bacteria by sweeping a film of debris trapping mucus upward (Campbell pg. 12). Various proteins within the body has they own function, and the contractile and motor proteins are responsible for the movements of cilia and flagella (Campbell pg. 76). CIlia must be motile in order for them to perform their functions, thus when the cilia are immotile, a syndrome known as Kartagener s develops through the rare genetic disorder of the immotile cilia. Since cilia deals with motion, when males are afflicted with Kartagener s syndrome they become sterile from the immotile sperm, and they often also suffer from lung infections (Campbell pg. 118). However, this syndrome can also affect females. It can lead to infections at the nasal sinuses and bronchi for both genders. Although some of the RICO predicate acts are extortion and blackmail, one of the most successful applications of the RICO laws has been the ability to indict or sanction individuals for their behavior and actions committed against witnesses and victims in alleged retaliation or retribution for cooperating with federal law enforcement or intelligence agencies. A majestic land where barriers are broken and dreams are made into reality. A land where anything is possible with a little hard work and determination. One may ask what makes a place this possible. The answer to that question is the people. Americans have a certain way about them that makes them different from any other people on earth. All Americans are heroes in some way, but a select few stand out in history as the most influential. One such individual is Jackie Robinson. Robinson redefined racial stereotypes by becoming the first African American baseballplayer to play in the Major League. Through his courage, determination, and perseverance, his legacy still continues to this date. One could argue numerous reasons that constitute Jackie Robinson as an American hero, but four stand out among the rest. Those reasons being that he fought for what he believed was right, overcame adversity, conquered many athletic feats, and had a lasting legacy. For these reasons Jackie Robinson truly embodies an American hero. The definition of a hero is: a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam Webster). An American hero is someone who, yes follows this definition, but completes it in a way that furthers America as a nation. • 24. The Causes Of The 1848 Revolution In Krefeld The 1848 Revolution The city of Krefeld (Crefeld) is famous for its textile industry, supplying silk and velvet to many countries. In Krefeld the silk, velvet and dyeing industries are dominant. The Kramer family is living here in 1848 when revolution explodes throughout many European cities. This crisis starts with a major crop failure leading to a famine in 1846 and 1847 that has important and cumulative effects throughout society. The cost of food rises steeply in Krefeld and in other towns throughout Europe. It reduces the purchasing power available for other products such as clothing, driving many businesses into bankruptcy. Textile towns like Krefeld are devastated as markets collapse and creditors call in their loans. Bankruptcies cause severe pressure on the banks, some of which suspend activities early in 1848, placing Krefeld s businesses and thousands of its workers at risk. Adding to the problem is the growing unemployment in Krefeld. There are bread riots and other forms of violent collective action in cities across Europe. The economic crisis erodes trust in the government of Prussia. Riots spread throughout the Prussian cities including Bonn, Berlin and Krefeld. These riots are led by the lower class workers demanding an end to the high price of food and to their oppressive working conditions. • 26. The Importance Of Computational Thinking Introduction Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer science researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems where computing is part of the solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in almost all areas of society expanding our understanding of the world. Problem solving using the power of computers requires teaching students how to confront problems in a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her article Computational Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill, just like reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33). Fundamental Skill Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of computers in learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the early 1960s recognized that computers could be used not just to deliver information and instruction, but also to transform learning. He was a pioneer of children using computers as instruments for learning and for enhancing creativity, innovation, and concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert) Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four years of work under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology, University of Geneva. For a business, the implication for political risk is that there is a measure of likelihood that political events may complicate its pursuit of earnings through direct impacts (such as taxes or fees) or indirect impacts (such as opportunity cost forgone). As a result, political risk is similar to an expected value such that the likelihood of a political event occurring may reduce the desirability of that investment by reducing its anticipated returns. This lab will teach how to average constant data and find the standard deviation, as well as how to use the Statistics and Linear Fit tools. It will also introduce using Excel to create tables and graphs. Theory: A thermometer, a device used to measure temperature, was used in this lab to collect data. The thermometer works by reaching thermal equilibrium with the object that is being measured. Heat transfers from the object with a higher temperature to the object with a lower temperature, which causes the temperature reading on the thermometer to change. This can be described by Newton s Law of Heating and Cooling, which states that the rate of an object s temperature change is proportional to the difference between the object s temperature and the temperature of its environment. This predication can be seen in the equation: О”T/О”t= k (T T0) (Equation 1) О”T /О”t is the change is temperature over the change in time, and T0 is the temperature of the object. The temperature will continue to change until a thermal equilibrium is reached. In this lab, the temperature of the air (T0=Tair) and the temperature of a hand (T0=Thand) will be measured. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition of electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The tensions between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) of 1947, which pre dated the WTO. Under the GATT 1947, trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels. The WTO Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which to resolve such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain historically deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications for domestic environmental decision making, a subset of domestic regulation. One factor they played a role in the fall of both empires was poor leadership in their empires. During the final days of Western Rome, there was no strong unifying leader in place due to the number of generals that would claim leader then be quickly killed off. Rome s military were only loyal to their generals, and when the generals would gather the power to overthrow the current rule, they were not well received by the public or the rest of the army. They did not unify they public and the government under strong rule, causing discord and distrust amongst the people. This lead to many revolts and needless violence that hurt the empire. Similarly, in the Han Dynasty, the lack of strong leaders caused people to become unsatisfied with their government. The people did not follow the will of their leaders and the aristocrats refused to pay taxes and support the government. Like Rome, this lack of poor leadership lead to revolts and needless violence that would ultimately hurt their citizens, military, and entirety of their empires. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation ( Coh ) Introduction Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) is known to be an important component in the success of in vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF ET). In COH procedure, in order to suppress and prevent premature luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, GnRH agonists and antagonists are often applied. During the assisted reproduction technologies (ARTs), controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) is often applied to stimulate multiple follicular development followed by ovulation induction with an ovulatory trigger before oocyte collection and fertilization. It is increasingly appreciated that such exogenous hormonal stimulation for ARTs results in the environment of supra physiological level of steroid hormone and may be detrimental to endometrial receptivity. Although no significant differences in oocyte quality or embryo quality were found between patients treated with GnRH agonist or GnRH antagonist, the data regarding the impact of these protocols on endometrial receptivity are still controversial. Impaired endometrial receptivity has been recognizied as the main problem to success in ART once all other factors have been optimized. Several studies have been done to directly assess endometrial receptivity, including histologic dating, endometrial sex steroid receptor concentrations, scanning electron microscopy assessing pinopod expression, and more recently, the role of cytokines, growth factors, integrin molecules, genomic, proteomic and lipidomic targets have been ... Not being jewish makes you see Jewish people in a different light. Sometimes that light is often very different that what reality is. By going through the life of a typical Jewish person for a week you will be able to see just how they live and what types of things differ and are similar. And what you will find is that most often times the differences are fewer than the similarities. Days go by very normally for jewish people most of the time. Most of time they go about their day very similarly to everyone else. Depending on the type of person they could go about their day differently. there are only some jewish people that still live very traditionally like they use to in the old days. If you go through a typical day of a jewish person this is what you would find out. When they wake up in the morning they say their daily prayer, called service of the heart which means the first conscious thought of the day. After they say their prayer they get ready for the day and they go to work. For breakfast and all meals through out the day, they must be Kosher. Kosher is a way of preparation of food, for a food to be kosher it must be prepared and presented in a way that god had intended it for. This means that if you have dinner meats and vegetables and all separate foods must be separated. Now days most Jewish people cook their food in the same kitchen just ... Cholera is one disease that continues to disrupt parts of the world. Cholera is death by diarrhea (Symington, 2011). It is a potentially severe disease that affects the digestive system, leading to extreme dehydration with the possibility of death within hours (Symington, 2011). The culprit responsible for this particular plague is the bacteria Vibrios cholerae (Kraft, 2010). Symptoms of cholerahave been traced as far back as ancient Greek times and Sanskrit writings (Pukatzki Provenzano, 2013). Between 1817 and 1961 there have been seven pandemic outbreaks that killed millions of people (Cable News Network, 2013.). In the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cells are highly motile via means of a single, polar flagellum (Todar, n.d.). Vibrios are found most often in marine and freshwater environments but prefer a slightly salty venue for prime growth to occur (Todar, n.d.). V. cholerae is part of the plankton ecosystem therefore it can easily move through multiple environments (Kraft, 2010). The bacteria also form biofilm colonies by blanketing the surface of rocks, plants, shells and the like, within their watery surroundings (Kraft, 2010). Cholera appears to affect only humans (Finkelstein, 1996). It mostly targets people who live in countries lacking proper sanitation systems and/or safe drinking water (Sack, Lyke, McLaughlin, Suwanvanichkij, 2001). The disease is typically scarce in industrialized populations (Cable News Network, 2013). The main mode of V. cholerae transmission is the consumption of food or water containing fecal contaminated bacteria (Sack et al., 2001). The bacteria can be transferred through food tainted by infected people who have inadequate hygiene methods after going to the bathroom or by improperly prepared foods, such as shellfish obtained from contaminated waters (Symington, 2011). Often it is difficult to distinguish between water and food as the source of contamination due to the fact that water frequently contaminates food (Sack et al., 2001). In Brave New World, science allows babies to be artificially produced in a laboratory. Even though it is not as extreme as in the Brave New World, I feel that we are also being conditioned. It is more obvious now. When we watch commercials on television, we are conditioned to buy the products and believe that by buying that particular brand of clothing we will look better and be well liked. The ads are harmless as long as we do not sacrifice the important idea that we genuinely want the product and that we are still making the decision to buy it. A similarity between Oceania, in 1984, and our country today is that the caste system still exists. Most of the power belongs to the rich, or the Inner Party. The middle class, or the Outer Party, are trying to become part of the higher class. While the poor, or the Proles, are working hard in order to make ends meet and just want to be left alone. Like Orwell, I feel that the caste system will always exist.

People use real estate for many different things, including retailing, offices, manufacturing, housing, ranching, farming, churches, and entertainment. The success of real estatedepends on many related factors such as the state of the economy, demographics, transportation, management expertise and style, government regulations and taxes, location, and climate. World War II brought technological breakthroughs and therefore the demand of houses and other real estate went up. The mortgage stability introduced by federal legislation following the Great Depression and World War II greatly aided the huge expansion of suburban housing and shopping centers that followed the war. • 51. Use Of Flashbacks Analysis Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept I will be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks are about. First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash and what her personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not know what happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe does not want to live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she has these feelings. Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read more. Secondly, another reason on why the author uses flashbacks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As one can see from this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she has a chance to live if she believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she will survive to wake up. Lastly, the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is an extremely talented musician. Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live. Mia lived in a household where rock and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was quite unique and different out of her family because she took a liking to classical music and was extremely skilled at playing the cello.
