The Upanishads And Other Religions Can Help The World Move...
The Upanishads, a main Hinduism concept, teaches a way of thinking and living that is righteous and
moral, but just like every religion concept it also leads to some follower s social outlook to become
prejudice and harsh. First, I am going to show how the Upanishads helps people become more moral
by showing how one has to give up their selfishness and desires to become a part one with everything
else. Then I am going to convey how it can hurt a person s social outlook if used to create a hierarchy.
Lastly I am going to show how the Upanishads and other religions can help the world move toward a
better future.
The Upanishads teach that caring for only yourself isn t helping you to become your higher self. It is
instead bringing you down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So by teaching oneness and togetherness the Upanishads is helping people see that they need to care
about others like they care for themselves because in a bigger picture it helps there be less greed and
therefore leads to more unity in the world.
Then there is also the side to the Upanishads concept that all religions have which is making most
followers believe that their teachings are the only truth and want to preserve their truth. This is
dangerous because it leads to a set in stone way of thinking that causes there to be inequality and
discrimination within the religion. One specific part of the Upanishads that leads to this type of one
truth mindset is karma. In the Supreme Teaching section of the Upanishads it states that depending on
what a person does in their life they either become good or become evil (Mascaró 140). This is in
reference to reincarnation, but is a dangerous way of thinking because it may lead people to believe
that a person s situation of living is justified because they deserve it, even if they are in a very difficult
living condition. People who believe that they deserve it will feel the need to let the ones who need
help the most to fend for themselves because of this way of thinking that they deserve whatever
obstacles and difficulties come their way. Therefore, creating the caste system. The caste

String Theory
What is string theory and what does it mean for human kind? String theory is a theory that seeks to
unify the four forces of nature and explain the origins of our universe. Before the string theory, it was
impossible to combine the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. By using tiny
vibrating strings of energy that are 10 33 m in length, scientists can create all the fundamental particles
we ve started to find using particle accelerators. Then, using these particles they can try to unite the
two different theories and create a universe that is perhaps, more perfect than the Standard Model will
allow. And what s great about string theory is that it explains more than just how gravity,
electromagnetic force, weak nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Einstein spoke about the relationship of energy to mass and using his formulas, scientists have
theorized that the energy released from two membranes colliding could create our universe!
Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together once, so
perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united the universe,
theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of how the Big Bang
was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it s a huge problem:
there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all theoretical tests proposed to
find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we have at our disposal. Our highest
powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to even find gravitons, let alone the strings
that would prove string theory correct. Despite these problems with directly proving string theory,
physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal (classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out
circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry (each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new
dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of gravitons as they escape into different dimensions.
There are of course physicists who warn that because string theory is

Parmigiano s Pizzeria And Deli Menu Analysis
I am pleased with my graphical outcome for the menu designed for Parmigiano s Pizzeria and Deli
and I believe I have made a significant improvement from the Longboards poster. The menu captured
the brief through the use of bright colours, layout, effective pictures and a simple but interesting logo.
The brief stated that Papa Parmigiano wanted to be included in the logo, so I made him the hero. I
placed him holding a pizza with the background of Italian colours to represent his heritage and link to
the restaurant theme. I could of improved my logo by making my own type and possibly make it more
detailed and interesting. The background complimented the type because it included the bright colours
that stimulate appetite and relate to the food

Deviant Behavior Case Study Essay
ANALYSIS This case shows three deviant individuals, Valessa, Adam, Jon. They all violated the
norms that society finds acceptable (Clinard 2014). It is considered out of the norm for children to
disobey their parents, engage in activities without parental consent, participate in underage drinking
and drugs. There was more similarity between the deviant behavior of Valessa and Adam. Both
Valnessa and Adam had issues when it came to school. Adam didn t finish high school because he
dropped out. With all the issues at home, Valessa began skipping school. Both They also committed
deviant behavior together like vehicle theft, murder, and credit card theft. Both of these individuals

One management technique, rationalization, was used by both Valessa and Jon. Rationalization is
stated as the act of trying to avoid sanctions by explaining and justifying the deviance in terms of the
situation, the victim, or some other cause usually outside of the victims control (Clinard 2014: 61). In
this situation, Valessa and her attorney used rationalization to argue that her deviant acts were not in
her control because she claimed to be controlled by Adam. Valessa argued that Adam controlled her
through fear and that she was too afraid to tell him no. Another management technique Valessa used
was joining deviant subcultures. This happened when she met Adam for the first time and they shared
similarities. Valessa felt abandoned by her mother when she became serious with her new boyfriend.
In fact, they all went on a family vacation for two weeks but left Valessa home alone and did not call
to check in on her at any point. Adam s mother also abandoned him when he was at the age of two,
and his father was dead, so he too didn t have anyone to turn to. He was someone who could
sympathize with her. She felt that he was someone who understood her feelings of abandonment.
Engaging in deviant acts with Adam helped Valnessa escape from the rejection she was feeling from

Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell Tale Heart
The author Edgar Allen Poe creates a story called The Tell Tale Heart about a man who creeps into
this old man s room for 8 days and is convinced that the man vexed him with his eye. The old man s
eye which he refers to as the vulture eye is a symbol. Poe uses symbolism and setting in the story to
show how the narrator is like and about his mental condition. Through the use of symbolism, setting,
and characterization. The author of the The Tell Tale Heart hows that the narrator is mad and
unreliable. Through the use of symbolism Poe spied on the old man to look at the eye that vexed him,
which he called the vulture eye. A symbol for eye is a window to the soul, which shows the narrator is
looking into his soul and his bothered by it.
And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight but I found the eye always closed; and
so it is impossible to do the work; for it is not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye (1). He
watched the old man and described details though most of them might not have been accurate. Poe is
intelligent to refer the eye as symbolism and use symbolism throughout the story. I think that poe is
very intelligent enough to use symbolism in the essay
Poe uses characterization to create a reliable character. Villains! I shrieked dissemble no more I admit
the deed tear up the planks here it is the beating of his hideous heart (5). In this quote he admits he did
the deed and is terrified thinking the officers knew that

The Writing Of History Is Not An Easy Task That Can Make...
Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of
history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are
incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically
littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at
the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a
specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased
towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s
position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday
writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an
international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia s decision to
execute Prince Turki bin Sad al Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a member
of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has happened was in
1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the life of King Faisal.
(North Korea Times, October 20, 2016). The method in which the prince was executed was not
revealed to the public, but other cases of the death sentence in Saudia Arabia were

make them much more than that. They also make great friends. Two of the most popular dog breeds
are German Shepherds and Rottweilers. German Shepherds and Rottweilers both have qualities that
make them great for families.
German Shepherds are amongst the most popular dog breeds sold today. They are very popular in the

their owners if they feel threatened and will attack if they feel that their owner is in danger. They also
have the size and the power that makes for a great guard dog. These attributes are among many of the
reasons that families love having either of these two dogs as pets. Both dogs are also known for being

Dna And Protein Synthesis Essay
DNA and Protein Synthesis
One of the most fundamental properties of any and all living organisms is that of reproduction. As we
all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions
from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is
duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division.
DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all
know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also
known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the
molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all
living organisms.
It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used
for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over
the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital
key to this process are referred to as the genes.
In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward
Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. While they were working with fungi, more
specifically Nuerospora and Penicillium, they found information regarding genes and how they direct
the formation of enzymes through the

What Is My Favourite Memory Essay
Whenever you come to visit me in this hospital whilst i lie in this isolated, vegetative state memories
of our times together come rushing back to me.
These memories that I reminisce about are now my life, the only thing I can really, truly connect to.
I recall my favourite days in winter when the light of the day had been replaced by the unrelenting
blackness of the night, and we would sit in the little café. Sitting there with mugs of coffee cupped
between our stone cold hands, the warmth of the fire against our backs slowly warming us up. The
sweet smell of the cinnamon buns that would diffuse around us which made it difficult to resist the
temptation of eating anymore, despite the guilt we should have probably felt about the huge amount
we had already consumed.
The Café that once was filled with our bursts of loud uncivilised laughter from which people could
have probably heard from outside in the pouring rain, was now from what I can imagine just a lifeless
café. There was nothing fancy about this café, no fancy furniture, no white etching upon the glass, the
feeling of just being there together and feeling as if we were away from the loud intimidating noises of
London s streets was what made this café so great.
I recall meeting in the little cafe that was not far from where we both lived every day after our long
days at work.
Whatever the circumstance both of us would be there, so we could reminisce for hours and hours
about our days of chaoticness and madness.
This was until ten years ago, the day when I didn t turn up to the café, the day my life ended
physically and yours mentally.
Now I lie here in this hospital bed, my thoughts disattached from what was my body.
I am locked inside this body which was once mine but now it is a stranger to me and I have no control
over what happens to it and when.
At first all I could feel was frustration. Frustration because I couldn t respond to you when you would
talk to me, your hand in what used to be my hand, your fingers entwined in fingers that are now
unknown to me for i now have no feeling in this body you call mine.
There s no word for how I feel. I am now frozen, unable to do anything but listen to the world go by,

On The Waterfront Analysis
In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando,
an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for the union head,
Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the
film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different
cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed
on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic
port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the
background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the
area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going
on in the ports. The background sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal
loops add to the realistic aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in
which give the film a realistic mise en scène. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A
small detail like this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the
corrupt union officials but from the elements themselves. The visible breaths also affirm the unique
existence of each character. Kazan casted not just actors to play these though

Interview With The Person s Political Beliefs
For this interview assignment, I interviewed my close friend Franki s mother, Deborah. Deborah is
thirty nine years old and she lives with her two children, Franki and Jessica, and with her husband
Frank. The three topics I decided to interview Deborah on were political beliefs, philosophy of leisure
time and the goals in life.
The Person s Political Beliefs
Deborah considers herself a republican and believes that she is very conservative. She believes that
everyone should work for what they want in and from life rather than depend on someone else s
resources such as welfare. I then asked her about the current political issues such as abortion, LGBTQ,
illegal immigrants etc. Deborah considers herself a pro life. She believes abortion should be illegal
throughout the country, but with the exception of rape and amniocentesis; detects chromosome
abnormalities, neural tube defects, and genetic disorders. According to Deborah, every child should
have the opportunity to be born in this beautiful world and nobody should be able to take that right
away from them.
I then asked her how she feels about the issue of immigration. She responded that her family is not
entirely American also, we all came from different parts of the world and America has and ... Show

friends and families. She believes that family should be our number one priority because that is where

that she does not always get to spend the amount of time she wants with her family but she is always
in the attempt. She tries to get out of work as early as she can, therefore, she can have dinner with her
family. Over spring break, Deborah and her family went on a vacation to the Florida and they plan a

The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Essay
The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison makes a good point when, in her acceptance speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize in
Literature, she says, Narrative . . . is . . . one of the principal ways in which we absorb knowledge (7).
The words we use and the way in which we use them is how we, as humans, communicate to each
other our thoughts, feelings, and actions and therefore our knowledge of the world and its peoples.
Knowledge is power. In this way, our language, too, is powerful.
In her acceptance speech, Morrison tries to communicate the idea that we must be careful with how
we use our words. She analogizes the use of language to the life of a metaphoric bird in a tale of a
wise, old, blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her speech, Toni Morrison works towards defining and supporting this thesis of
responsibility. It is our responsibility, as users of words, to make language thrive. Elizabeth Fox
Genovese has a similar goal, but takes a different approach in her essay The Claims of a Common
Culture: Gender, Race, Class and the Canon. She speaks on the use and composition of the canon
taught in humanities classes. Her idea is that the canon of today is much too one sided and does not
include the influence of the several different cultures, peoples, and ideas that make up our society. She
says that with respect to representativeness, the canon fails woefully. It represent[s] a small,
sometimes minute, portion of the elite, which itself constitute[s] a statistical minority of the population
(Fox Genovese 19). In this abstract way, Fox Genovese is reiterating Morrison s words that what we
say, and how we say it (or teach it), or what we fail to say (as in the canon taught today) is
monumentally influencing and impactful upon others.
If we are not aware of the words that come out of our mouths due to lack of thought or attention, we
all suffer and we are all at fault: When language dies, out of carelessness, disuse, indifference, and
absence of esteem, or killed by fiat, . . . all users and makers are accountable for its demise (Morrison
14 15). The standards of society are changing and with them the

Examples Of Andrew Jackson Evil
Andrew Jackson had a plethora of innumerable downs and ups throughout his life and presidency like
saving a Native American child and also the cause of an assassination of a tribe of Native Americans. I
do believe that the actions throughout his life have lead me to come to the conclusion that he is a
villian. However, many do believe that all the goods actions Jackson did overweigh the villainous
deeds. The examples of Jackson s evil and criminal deeds he did are as follows. Jackson to the people
was considered a self centered, hostile, and uncaring person. A certain event when Jackson was hostile

Jackson was self centered by not listening to his advisors. He would make decisions by what he

treat and handle the Indians, his decision to make the spoil system, and how he was self centered.
When handling the Indians, Jackson was very cruel. He despised the Indians so much he made an act
called the Indian Removal Act. Which forced the Indians to leave the entire country. He told them that
they would be removed either willingly or by force. The Indians decided not to leave. So he told
soldiers to capture them so they could be removed by force. This lead to the crisis of the Trail Of
Tears. Along the way of the trail 4,000 died from the hostile and horrible conditions of disease and
exhaustion. Also, he had wooden structures that were made for the Indians to stay in. These structures
were unhealthy and unsanitary. There were no doors or windows. So the cold air would blow into the
houses and cause people to become sick and die. One of Jackson s soldiers said this This is the

Les Miserable Scene Analysis
The scene that I have chosen to apply my learning in this term to, as well as specifically analyze, is the
2012 Universal and Working Title Films production of the movie musical Les Misérables, directed by
Tom Hooper. This musical focuses on the lives of several characters in France during the early 1800 s;
Jean Valjean is an ex convict who breaks parole to start a new life, Javert is the chief of police
dedicated to upholding the law, Fantine is a single mother who turns to prostitution as a way to
provide for her child Cosette, and more. The scene I am fixated on details Fantine in the wake of
losing her job and realizing she needs to make money to support her child. This scene is impactful and
striking because of its dealing with the topic of prostitution and unemployment, as well as being a
pivotal part of the film dramatically with live singing and superb acting. The scene is also a pristine
example of multiple film techniques such as close up camera shots, setting, lighting, actors, singing,
and sounds in general. To briefly summarize the scene, I will start with some basic background
information on the main character during this specific time in the film. Fantine is a single mother who
is working at a tailoring house with many other women, until she is thrown out onto the street. She is
thrown out because her fellow female tailors, and male boss (who was a bit more than friendly) found
out Fantine had a daughter and thought she could bring only trouble. Her daughter

would rule Rome for future years to come. On March 15th, 44 B.C., fearsome Roman politician and

Roman senators, Caesar presented a self focused speech. Behind his assassination stood one powerful
man; Marcus Brutus. Brutus, alongside many Roman senators, contributed to the murder of the
dictator, by being the last to stab him to death. Brutus joined the conspiracy precisely because he
feared how a crown might transform Caesar. In his last words, Caesar is unknowingly defending
himself against Brutus s fears. Despite the pompousness, Caesar s comparison to the star is accurate;
he is the center around which the Roman world revolves, the cornerstone and pillar of the edifice of
the empire. Shaking him down endangers the whole, (Brightest Heaven of Invention, pg.95). Minutes
before the first dagger reaches Caesar s skin, he explains to the group of men how he is similar to an
unchangeable north star, which was known to be a symbolism of a great ruler. Furthermore, Brutus

United Airlines Vs Colossal Advertisements
We as a society are amused by the neverending fusillade of advertisements, but why are we as a
society so attracted to them and what makes them so appealing? Advertisements are practically
everywhere, are and have been accepted as a normal part of society. They are produced by everything
from small businesses to massive corporations and are posted everywhere. Television, billboards,
street poles, and even bathroom stalls are all common locations for advertisements to be placed
because of their location. Advertisements are one of the best ways to captivate a company s intended
audience, so it s no big surprise why they have taken over the entire world. Colossal companies such
as United Airlines and Delta Airlines are just a few companies that ... Show more content on

Trust is the output of your behaviours and actions of you as a leader and it either builds or erodes over
time. Ineffective leaders often don t get this element of their personal accountability. Importantly, if
you don t build trust and mutual professional respect you cannot be an effective horizontal matrix
leader. You must also assume good intent of your team and business partners rather than suspicion and
derision so when something does happen (and it will) you are showing empathy in your own
relationships by seeking to understand instead of becoming emotional and seeking to assign blame.
This is something each of us need to make one of our personal management habits.

infamous for her outrageous viral pictures that often include her posing in seemingly unflattering ways
that challenge fat shaming and hegemonic beauty standards. While she often posits herself through

Understanding The Family Dynamics, And School Preparation
Dr. Sampson, Black and Brown: Race, Ethnicity, and School Preparation gives great insight into
understanding the family dynamics which relate to parental educational involvement. To the credit of
research design, I believe the case studies presented on youth living poor from low income
communities adequately assesses the needs of students. It is also a strength of Dr. Sampson research
that information is given on how parents can engage in their children s education although they may
be in the midst of poverty and lack. By actually showing ways in which low income families produce
cultural and social capital, Dr. Sampson creates an even playing ground for parent participation and
shows that low income families alike possess a great deal of knowledge, skill and care for educational
success. One of Dr. Sampson overarching ideas is that children and influences by parents attitude and
(or) behavior. There are many variables that influence student achievement, I agree with Dr. Sampson
that attitudes and behavior is perhaps the foundation for achievement outcomes. Common practices
such as parents helping with home work and properly supervising children are referenced as key
supports for academic success.
Other strengths of Dr. Sampson arguments include the critical assessment that community
organization, families and schools need to collaborate in effort to foster greater academic achievement
in students. By acknowledging all actors that create various learning environments for

Cigarette Smoking Should Not Be Banned

who chose their time smoking to relieve stress, personal enjoyment, or simply just because, have to

and in many different forms. Should personal rights be pushed aside to please those around us that
disagree with the so called disgusting habit ? In the paper The Washington Times an article caught my

In the article Why ban the sale of cigarettes? The case for abolition by Robert Procter states that
Another objection commonly raised to any call for a ban is that this will encourage smuggling, or even
organized crime. I can agree with this statement although this author is for banning this statement
brings out a huge issue that could potentially arise from banning tobacco. If there is a will there will
be a way. Another outrageous idea I read in the article called Regulatory Approaches to Ending
Cigarette Caused Death and Diseases in the United States by Richard Daynard was the fact that the
government would give tobacco companies a limit to how many cigarettes that can produce each year.
By doing this it stated by the end of 2015 it would become unlawful for a cigarette manufacturer to
produce more than two thirds of the brands baseline. . So not only would the indoor outdoor smoking
bans be in effect the government would now be regulating the amount of cigarettes produced in the
United States. Therefore I feel as strongly as others about banning smoking rights. I am a non smoker
myself and as long as you aren t purposefully blowing smoke in my face, feel free to do as you please.
While you can, that is. On all cigarette packs in the United States there is a warning

Descartes Certainty
Descartes wish to do this and that is, to guard against everything that creeps in his mind, to suspend all
his judgement, and sets out to look or find something that lies beyond all doubt because he wants to
discredit or to prove false of the notion that nothing can be known with certainty in order to begin by
presupposing nothing and by taking nothing for granted.
In my own opinion, I strongly consider his reason for doing this as reasonable because its intention is
to create a body of knowledge, and Descartes never intended to set aside all of his opinions but just
cast doubts on this opinions that are based on some preconceived notion so he will be able to stand
back in order to see the truth in itself.
I consider Descartes epistemological project important because it is extremely important to conduct
our own investigation to the warrant for what we believe by means of doubting everything until we
find anything certain or until it has been shown to be an acceptable belief for us. How can we acquire
knowledge of truth without certainty? That is why it is important that we should not believe in
anything that we cannot be certain of.
The conclusions that Descartes draw from this testimony ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why? Because there are no certain indications that distinguish whether one is just dreaming or one is
fully awake. In order to establish that someone is not dreaming, suppose he is given a test that he can
perform successfully ONLY when he is awake and not dreaming, but it is true that any possible test
performed could be the case that someone is merely dreaming in performing that test. I think that
Descartes reasoning about this is correct because anything that we can experience when we are awake,
we can also experience or perform it in our dreams, so giving someone a test cannot serve as a
guarantee of authenticity of the test that determine whether or not he is

Concert Halls ( Julia Morgan, An American Architect
These days, concert halls also have remarkable architecture, offering audiences a great show even
before they have taken their seats, says the building data company, Emporis. When concert halls are
non contextual architecture, it makes the whole hall an experience, rather than just the show. The
visitor does not even need to purchase a ticket for the show; they can merely wonder around the
exterior and interior for enjoyment. Non contextual designs are becoming more popular which let s the
uniqueness of the site and the building speak for itself, sparks interest, and inspires many of the
visitors. Julia Morgan, an American architect, once said, Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings

surroundings. Other architecture is non contextual and is extremely different from the neighboring

Capital Punishment Is Not Only Unusual, But Cruel Essay
Capital Punishment is Not Only Unusual, But Cruel
The most widely known aspect of the eighth amendment is the fact that it prohibits cruel and unusual
punishment. Cruel and unusual punishment is perceived as punishment that causes an unnecessary and
wanton infliction of pain (Bailey). Is capital punishment cruel and unusual? It is one of the most
controversial topics in America today. In effect since the 1600s, the US
Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was cruel and unusual in 1972 but reversed this decision
when a quot;cleaner quot; way to bring about death was found in 1976 (Encarta). This quot;cleaner
quot; way is death by lethal injection, which is quick and painless if administered ... Show more

Secondly, I believe the execution methods the death penalty utilizes make it cruel. In the US, there are
five methods of execution currently in use. These methods are: electrocution, lethal injection, the gas
chamber, the firing squad (used only in Utah), and hanging (Bailey). Problems with capital
punishment methods stem as far back as the ritual itself. The eighth amendment, which is supposed to
protect its citizens from torturous treatment and punishment at the hand of law enforcers, lets the
enforcers inflict these methods which are cruel, slow and painful upon the person being executed.
Everyone who commits a crime is not committing a compulsive act
(Wasserstrom 573) and therefore, we should not act impulsively towards them. The punishment
should not be grossly out of proportion to the severity of the crime charged, nor should it violate the
convicted individual s dignity.
Lastly, there is the aspect of my religion (Catholic) playing a factor in the capital punishment debate.
Many people point to the passage in
Leviticus, which states that an eye for an eye is God s decree (Costanzo 592).
However, Jesus Christ

Social Contract And The Civil Society
The social contract and the push for individuals to enter it rely on some conception of a state of nature.
Whilst the expected behaviour of persons in the state of nature differs among the social contract
theorists, the classical writings all share one common feature, a generalised potential for threat from
other persons (Dicus 2015, p. 105). However, the nature of this threat in the hypothetical state of
nature is not verifiable, as is the transition to civil society. The signing of the social contract is also not
literal, and none of the societies that the social contract theorists write from have entered into such an
agreement. The most comparable circumstance to agreeing to enter into a social contract is the period
of rebuilding society after revolution, but this relies on members of the society having the freedom to
remain an individual or join (Gough 1957). The killing of dissenting persons also suggests that
comparison is ineffective. Even so, social contract remains a popular justification of the state, albeit
declining in popularity since the 17th and 18th century, despite its hypothetical nature. Rawls attempts
to justify it by arguing that the demands of the hypothetical contract with equal and frees individuals
are the closest theorists can come to being a voluntary scheme of obedience to the law (Simmons
1999). On the other hand, William Paley (cited in Gough 1957, p.197) argues that a non factual
contract cannot be used as a foundation for any theory and

Comparison Of Isaac And Jephthah s Daughter
When examining the stories of Abraham s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and Jephthah s sacrifice of his
daughter there are similarities. For instance, both Isaac and Jephthah s daughter were both only
children, and both were willing participants. However, there are also distinct differences as to how
both of these sacrifices initiated. The story of Isaac s sacrifice starts with God testing Abraham s by
telling him to take his son to Moriah and to offer him as a burnt offering (Authorized King James
Version, Genesis 22:1 2). Furthermore, upon arrival Abraham goes the process of the sacrifice, but
tells Isaac that God will provide the lamb (AKJV, Genesis 22:8). The complete obedience and faith
that Abraham displayed was the reason that God spared Isaac as per their covenant. ... Show more

Secondly, before being willing to lead Gilead he had to be assured that he would become their captain
(AKJV, Judges 11:8 11, Tullock, McEntire, 2012). The third difference was Abraham simply followed
God s instructions, while Jephthah seemingly takes his time sending numerous messages to the King
of Ammon (AKJV, Judges 11: 12 28). Finally, the vow Jephthah makes appears to be Jephthah s doing
rather than Gods, and as this is likely a suzerainty covenant Jephthah was obliged to uphold his end of
the bargain (Wilcox, 2014). The basis of this premise is backed by the passage ...for I have opened my

Explain How to Manage Disagreements with Children, Young...
Children
Disagreements with other people is something that we will all encounter at various points in our lives.
It is therefore important from an early age that we learn how to manage disagreements and move on
successfully from them.
Children need to be taught from a young age that it is a normal part of growing up to have occasional
arguments and disagreements, to fall out with friends, from time to time, and not always to get on with
other people.
It is important that you take the time to understand the cause of the conflict and why it has happened.
Listen and hear what is being said, if a child does not think that he or she is being listened to they will
get even more upset or angry.
As a school, it is part of our ongoing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone makes a suggestion on how to resolve the problem
Finish with an agreed resolution or go back to step 1. Ask each person involved are they happy with
how it has been sorted or do they think they need more time?
Young People
Dealing with young people/teenagers can be a minefield. It can be hard as at this age they believe that
they know everything and are grown up so have no need to listen to others points of view. But
sometimes young people need our help just as much, or more than children.
It is important to keep your own feelings in check and not to get frustrated or upset because that might
be the reaction the young person is trying to get. If you feel yourself losing your temper then it may be
time for you to take a break from the situation. Also, by modeling how to deal with being upset and
disappointed in an appropriate way, you are teaching the young person that everyone has those
feelings but they still have to be dealt with in an acceptable way.
It can also help to get the parents involved in any major issues to ensure that you are all on the same
page and any strategies you put in place are being done at home too.
Adults
As we go through our day to day lives be it at work or in other settings there will always be times
when you disagree with other adults. The way that you cope with these disagreements is very
important. You must ensure that you always remain calm and polite, no matter how

  • 2. The Upanishads And Other Religions Can Help The World Move... The Upanishads, a main Hinduism concept, teaches a way of thinking and living that is righteous and moral, but just like every religion concept it also leads to some follower s social outlook to become prejudice and harsh. First, I am going to show how the Upanishads helps people become more moral by showing how one has to give up their selfishness and desires to become a part one with everything else. Then I am going to convey how it can hurt a person s social outlook if used to create a hierarchy. Lastly I am going to show how the Upanishads and other religions can help the world move toward a better future. The Upanishads teach that caring for only yourself isn t helping you to become your higher self. It is instead bringing you down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So by teaching oneness and togetherness the Upanishads is helping people see that they need to care about others like they care for themselves because in a bigger picture it helps there be less greed and therefore leads to more unity in the world. Then there is also the side to the Upanishads concept that all religions have which is making most followers believe that their teachings are the only truth and want to preserve their truth. This is dangerous because it leads to a set in stone way of thinking that causes there to be inequality and discrimination within the religion. One specific part of the Upanishads that leads to this type of one truth mindset is karma. In the Supreme Teaching section of the Upanishads it states that depending on what a person does in their life they either become good or become evil (Mascaró 140). This is in reference to reincarnation, but is a dangerous way of thinking because it may lead people to believe that a person s situation of living is justified because they deserve it, even if they are in a very difficult living condition. People who believe that they deserve it will feel the need to let the ones who need help the most to fend for themselves because of this way of thinking that they deserve whatever obstacles and difficulties come their way. Therefore, creating the caste system. The caste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. String Theory What is string theory and what does it mean for human kind? String theory is a theory that seeks to unify the four forces of nature and explain the origins of our universe. Before the string theory, it was impossible to combine the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. By using tiny vibrating strings of energy that are 10 33 m in length, scientists can create all the fundamental particles we ve started to find using particle accelerators. Then, using these particles they can try to unite the two different theories and create a universe that is perhaps, more perfect than the Standard Model will allow. And what s great about string theory is that it explains more than just how gravity, electromagnetic force, weak nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Einstein spoke about the relationship of energy to mass and using his formulas, scientists have theorized that the energy released from two membranes colliding could create our universe! Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together once, so perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united the universe, theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of how the Big Bang was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it s a huge problem: there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all theoretical tests proposed to find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we have at our disposal. Our highest powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to even find gravitons, let alone the strings that would prove string theory correct. Despite these problems with directly proving string theory, physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal (classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry (each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of gravitons as they escape into different dimensions. There are of course physicists who warn that because string theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Parmigiano s Pizzeria And Deli Menu Analysis I am pleased with my graphical outcome for the menu designed for Parmigiano s Pizzeria and Deli and I believe I have made a significant improvement from the Longboards poster. The menu captured the brief through the use of bright colours, layout, effective pictures and a simple but interesting logo. The brief stated that Papa Parmigiano wanted to be included in the logo, so I made him the hero. I placed him holding a pizza with the background of Italian colours to represent his heritage and link to the restaurant theme. I could of improved my logo by making my own type and possibly make it more detailed and interesting. The background complimented the type because it included the bright colours that stimulate appetite and relate to the food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Deviant Behavior Case Study Essay ANALYSIS This case shows three deviant individuals, Valessa, Adam, Jon. They all violated the norms that society finds acceptable (Clinard 2014). It is considered out of the norm for children to disobey their parents, engage in activities without parental consent, participate in underage drinking and drugs. There was more similarity between the deviant behavior of Valessa and Adam. Both Valnessa and Adam had issues when it came to school. Adam didn t finish high school because he dropped out. With all the issues at home, Valessa began skipping school. Both They also committed deviant behavior together like vehicle theft, murder, and credit card theft. One management technique, rationalization, was used by both Valessa and Jon. Rationalization is stated as the act of trying to avoid sanctions by explaining and justifying the deviance in terms of the situation, the victim, or some other cause usually outside of the victims control (Clinard 2014: 61). In this situation, Valessa and her attorney used rationalization to argue that her deviant acts were not in her control because she claimed to be controlled by Adam. Valessa argued that Adam controlled her through fear and that she was too afraid to tell him no. Another management technique Valessa used was joining deviant subcultures. This happened when she met Adam for the first time and they shared similarities. Valessa felt abandoned by her mother when she became serious with her new boyfriend. In fact, they all went on a family vacation for two weeks but left Valessa home alone and did not call to check in on her at any point. Adam s mother also abandoned him when he was at the age of two, and his father was dead, so he too didn t have anyone to turn to. He was someone who could sympathize with her. She felt that he was someone who understood her feelings of abandonment. Engaging in deviant acts with Adam helped Valnessa escape from the rejection she was feeling from her ... • 7. Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell Tale Heart The author Edgar Allen Poe creates a story called The Tell Tale Heart about a man who creeps into this old man s room for 8 days and is convinced that the man vexed him with his eye. The old man s eye which he refers to as the vulture eye is a symbol. Poe uses symbolism and setting in the story to show how the narrator is like and about his mental condition. Through the use of symbolism, setting, and characterization. The author of the The Tell Tale Heart hows that the narrator is mad and unreliable. Through the use of symbolism Poe spied on the old man to look at the eye that vexed him, which he called the vulture eye. A symbol for eye is a window to the soul, which shows the narrator is looking into his soul and his bothered by it. And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight but I found the eye always closed; and so it is impossible to do the work; for it is not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye (1). He watched the old man and described details though most of them might not have been accurate. Poe is intelligent to refer the eye as symbolism and use symbolism throughout the story. I think that poe is very intelligent enough to use symbolism in the essay Poe uses characterization to create a reliable character. Villains! • 8. The Writing Of History Is Not An Easy Task That Can Make... Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia s decision to execute Prince Turki bin Sad al Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a member of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has happened was in 1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the life of King Faisal. (North Korea Times, October 20, 2016). The method in which the prince was executed was not revealed to the public, but other cases of the death sentence in Saudia Arabia were ... • 10. Dna And Protein Synthesis Essay DNA and Protein Synthesis One of the most fundamental properties of any and all living organisms is that of reproduction. As we all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division. DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all living organisms. It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital key to this process are referred to as the genes. In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. While they were working with fungi, more specifically Nuerospora and Penicillium, they found information regarding genes and how they direct the formation of enzymes through the ... • 16. What Is My Favourite Memory Essay Whenever you come to visit me in this hospital whilst i lie in this isolated, vegetative state memories of our times together come rushing back to me. These memories that I reminisce about are now my life, the only thing I can really, truly connect to. I recall my favourite days in winter when the light of the day had been replaced by the unrelenting blackness of the night, and we would sit in the little café. Sitting there with mugs of coffee cupped between our stone cold hands, the warmth of the fire against our backs slowly warming us up. The sweet smell of the cinnamon buns that would diffuse around us which made it difficult to resist the temptation of eating anymore, despite the guilt we should have probably felt about the huge amount we had already consumed. The Café that once was filled with our bursts of loud uncivilised laughter from which people could have probably heard from outside in the pouring rain, was now from what I can imagine just a lifeless café. There was nothing fancy about this café, no fancy furniture, no white etching upon the glass, the feeling of just being there together and feeling as if we were away from the loud intimidating noises of London s streets was what made this café so great. I recall meeting in the little cafe that was not far from where we both lived every day after our long days at work. Whatever the circumstance both of us would be there, so we could reminisce for hours and hours about our days of chaoticness and madness. This was until ten years ago, the day when I didn t turn up to the café, the day my life ended physically and yours mentally. Now I lie here in this hospital bed, my thoughts disattached from what was my body. I am locked inside this body which was once mine but now it is a stranger to me and I have no control over what happens to it and when. At first all I could feel was frustration. Frustration because I couldn t respond to you when you would talk to me, your hand in what used to be my hand, your fingers entwined in fingers that are now unknown to me for i now have no feeling in this body you call mine. • 17. On The Waterfront Analysis In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando, an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for the union head, Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports. The background sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal loops add to the realistic aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in which give the film a realistic mise en scène. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A small detail like this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the corrupt union officials but from the elements themselves. The visible breaths also affirm the unique existence of each character. Kazan casted not just actors to play these though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Essay The Sacred Language of Toni Morrison Toni Morrison makes a good point when, in her acceptance speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature, she says, Narrative . . . is . . . one of the principal ways in which we absorb knowledge (7). The words we use and the way in which we use them is how we, as humans, communicate to each other our thoughts, feelings, and actions and therefore our knowledge of the world and its peoples. Knowledge is power. In this way, our language, too, is powerful. In her acceptance speech, Morrison tries to communicate the idea that we must be careful with how we use our words. Throughout her speech, Toni Morrison works towards defining and supporting this thesis of responsibility. It is our responsibility, as users of words, to make language thrive. Elizabeth Fox Genovese has a similar goal, but takes a different approach in her essay The Claims of a Common Culture: Gender, Race, Class and the Canon. She speaks on the use and composition of the canon taught in humanities classes. Her idea is that the canon of today is much too one sided and does not include the influence of the several different cultures, peoples, and ideas that make up our society. She says that with respect to representativeness, the canon fails woefully. It represent[s] a small, sometimes minute, portion of the elite, which itself constitute[s] a statistical minority of the population (Fox Genovese 19). In this abstract way, Fox Genovese is reiterating Morrison s words that what we say, and how we say it (or teach it), or what we fail to say (as in the canon taught today) is monumentally influencing and impactful upon others. If we are not aware of the words that come out of our mouths due to lack of thought or attention, we all suffer and we are all at fault: When language dies, out of carelessness, disuse, indifference, and absence of esteem, or killed by fiat, . . . all users and makers are accountable for its demise (Morrison 14 15). Brutus s cowardly actions and impulsive decision to act saved Rome from a future tyrant who would rule Rome for future years to come. On March 15th, 44 B.C., fearsome Roman politician and dictator, Julius Caesar, breathed his last breath in the monumental city of Rome, Italy. Surround by Roman senators, Caesar presented a self focused speech. Behind his assassination stood one powerful man; Marcus Brutus. Brutus, alongside many Roman senators, contributed to the murder of the dictator, by being the last to stab him to death. Brutus joined the conspiracy precisely because he feared how a crown might transform Caesar. In his last words, Caesar is unknowingly defending himself against Brutus s fears. Although Plaintiff claims Ms. Miner provided bad references to prospective landlords, Ms. Miner has done nothing of the sort. In fact, policy mandates providing copies of incidental reports, repair notices and notices of delinquency (unpaid rent) by the tenant; Ms. Miner was simply acting in compliance. Accordingly, Ms. Miner did not discriminate against the Plaintiff in denying her leasing application, but merely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. Cigarette Smoking Should Not Be Banned Should cigarette smoking be banned for everyone in the United States? Why? Why not? Should those who chose their time smoking to relieve stress, personal enjoyment, or simply just because, have to lose their right to what makes them happy? Smoking tobacco products has been around for decades and in many different forms. Should personal rights be pushed aside to please those around us that disagree with the so called disgusting habit ? In the paper The Washington Times an article caught my interest called D.C. seeks bans on smoking in national parks written by Steven Dinan. In this article he stated that Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton wrote Park Service Regional Director Steve Whitesell saying she s heard from constituents who fear ... The case for abolition by Robert Procter states that Another objection commonly raised to any call for a ban is that this will encourage smuggling, or even organized crime. I can agree with this statement although this author is for banning this statement brings out a huge issue that could potentially arise from banning tobacco. If there is a will there will be a way. Another outrageous idea I read in the article called Regulatory Approaches to Ending Cigarette Caused Death and Diseases in the United States by Richard Daynard was the fact that the government would give tobacco companies a limit to how many cigarettes that can produce each year. By doing this it stated by the end of 2015 it would become unlawful for a cigarette manufacturer to produce more than two thirds of the brands baseline. . So not only would the indoor outdoor smoking bans be in effect the government would now be regulating the amount of cigarettes produced in the United States. Therefore I feel as strongly as others about banning smoking rights. I am a non smoker myself and as long as you aren t purposefully blowing smoke in my face, feel free to do as you please. While you can, that is. On all cigarette packs in the United States there is a warning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Descartes Certainty Descartes wish to do this and that is, to guard against everything that creeps in his mind, to suspend all his judgement, and sets out to look or find something that lies beyond all doubt because he wants to discredit or to prove false of the notion that nothing can be known with certainty in order to begin by presupposing nothing and by taking nothing for granted. In my own opinion, I strongly consider his reason for doing this as reasonable because its intention is to create a body of knowledge, and Descartes never intended to set aside all of his opinions but just cast doubts on this opinions that are based on some preconceived notion so he will be able to stand back in order to see the truth in itself. I consider Descartes epistemological project important because it is extremely important to conduct our own investigation to the warrant for what we believe by means of doubting everything until we find anything certain or until it has been shown to be an acceptable belief for us. How can we acquire knowledge of truth without certainty? That is why it is important that we should not believe in anything that we cannot be certain of. The conclusions that Descartes draw from this testimony ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why? Because there are no certain indications that distinguish whether one is just dreaming or one is fully awake. In order to establish that someone is not dreaming, suppose he is given a test that he can perform successfully ONLY when he is awake and not dreaming, but it is true that any possible test performed could be the case that someone is merely dreaming in performing that test. I think that Descartes reasoning about this is correct because anything that we can experience when we are awake, we can also experience or perform it in our dreams, so giving someone a test cannot serve as a guarantee of authenticity of the test that determine whether or not he is ... • 35. Concert Halls ( Julia Morgan, An American Architect These days, concert halls also have remarkable architecture, offering audiences a great show even before they have taken their seats, says the building data company, Emporis. When concert halls are non contextual architecture, it makes the whole hall an experience, rather than just the show. The visitor does not even need to purchase a ticket for the show; they can merely wonder around the exterior and interior for enjoyment. Non contextual designs are becoming more popular which let s the uniqueness of the site and the building speak for itself, sparks interest, and inspires many of the visitors. Julia Morgan, an American architect, once said, Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speak for themselves (Julia). Some architecture is contextual and amazingly blends in with its surroundings. Other architecture is non contextual and is extremely different from the neighboring buildings, it is astounding. Contextual architecture is very respectful and adds to the neighboring buildings. While non contextual architecture is very distinct and is set apart from its adjacent buildings. Shown below is New York City s Webster Hall located in Manhattan. This is an example of contextual design. The sign is informing the visitor of the hall. Without it, it does not stand out as a concert hall. Non Contextual designs have abundant amounts of thought put into the design. The architects gather information from all around them. • 37. Capital Punishment Is Not Only Unusual, But Cruel Essay Capital Punishment is Not Only Unusual, But Cruel The most widely known aspect of the eighth amendment is the fact that it prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Cruel and unusual punishment is perceived as punishment that causes an unnecessary and wanton infliction of pain (Bailey). Is capital punishment cruel and unusual? It is one of the most controversial topics in America today. In effect since the 1600s, the US Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was cruel and unusual in 1972 but reversed this decision when a quot;cleaner quot; way to bring about death was found in 1976 (Encarta). This quot;cleaner quot; way is death by lethal injection, which is quick and painless if administered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, I believe the execution methods the death penalty utilizes make it cruel. In the US, there are five methods of execution currently in use. These methods are: electrocution, lethal injection, the gas chamber, the firing squad (used only in Utah), and hanging (Bailey). Problems with capital punishment methods stem as far back as the ritual itself. The eighth amendment, which is supposed to protect its citizens from torturous treatment and punishment at the hand of law enforcers, lets the enforcers inflict these methods which are cruel, slow and painful upon the person being executed. Everyone who commits a crime is not committing a compulsive act (Wasserstrom 573) and therefore, we should not act impulsively towards them. The punishment should not be grossly out of proportion to the severity of the crime charged, nor should it violate the convicted individual s dignity. Lastly, there is the aspect of my religion (Catholic) playing a factor in the capital punishment debate. Many people point to the passage in Leviticus, which states that an eye for an eye is God s decree (Costanzo 592). However, Jesus Christ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Social Contract And The Civil Society The social contract and the push for individuals to enter it rely on some conception of a state of nature. Whilst the expected behaviour of persons in the state of nature differs among the social contract theorists, the classical writings all share one common feature, a generalised potential for threat from other persons (Dicus 2015, p. 105). However, the nature of this threat in the hypothetical state of nature is not verifiable, as is the transition to civil society. The signing of the social contract is also not literal, and none of the societies that the social contract theorists write from have entered into such an agreement. The most comparable circumstance to agreeing to enter into a social contract is the period of rebuilding society after revolution, but this relies on members of the society having the freedom to remain an individual or join (Gough 1957). The killing of dissenting persons also suggests that comparison is ineffective. Even so, social contract remains a popular justification of the state, albeit declining in popularity since the 17th and 18th century, despite its hypothetical nature. Rawls attempts to justify it by arguing that the demands of the hypothetical contract with equal and frees individuals are the closest theorists can come to being a voluntary scheme of obedience to the law (Simmons 1999). On the other hand, William Paley (cited in Gough 1957, p.197) argues that a non factual contract cannot be used as a foundation for any theory and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Comparison Of Isaac And Jephthah s Daughter When examining the stories of Abraham s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and Jephthah s sacrifice of his daughter there are similarities. For instance, both Isaac and Jephthah s daughter were both only children, and both were willing participants. However, there are also distinct differences as to how both of these sacrifices initiated. The story of Isaac s sacrifice starts with God testing Abraham s by telling him to take his son to Moriah and to offer him as a burnt offering (Authorized King James Version, Genesis 22:1 2). Furthermore, upon arrival Abraham goes the process of the sacrifice, but tells Isaac that God will provide the lamb (AKJV, Genesis 22:8). The complete obedience and faith that Abraham displayed was the reason that God spared Isaac as per their covenant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, before being willing to lead Gilead he had to be assured that he would become their captain (AKJV, Judges 11:8 11, Tullock, McEntire, 2012). The third difference was Abraham simply followed God s instructions, while Jephthah seemingly takes his time sending numerous messages to the King of Ammon (AKJV, Judges 11: 12 28). Finally, the vow Jephthah makes appears to be Jephthah s doing rather than Gods, and as this is likely a suzerainty covenant Jephthah was obliged to uphold his end of the bargain (Wilcox, 2014). • 40. Explain How to Manage Disagreements with Children, Young... Children Disagreements with other people is something that we will all encounter at various points in our lives. It is therefore important from an early age that we learn how to manage disagreements and move on successfully from them. Children need to be taught from a young age that it is a normal part of growing up to have occasional arguments and disagreements, to fall out with friends, from time to time, and not always to get on with other people. It is important that you take the time to understand the cause of the conflict and why it has happened. Listen and hear what is being said, if a child does not think that he or she is being listened to they will get even more upset or angry. As a school, it is part of our ongoing ... Ask each person involved are they happy with how it has been sorted or do they think they need more time? Young People Dealing with young people/teenagers can be a minefield. It can be hard as at this age they believe that they know everything and are grown up so have no need to listen to others points of view. But sometimes young people need our help just as much, or more than children. It is important to keep your own feelings in check and not to get frustrated or upset because that might be the reaction the young person is trying to get. If you feel yourself losing your temper then it may be time for you to take a break from the situation. Also, by modeling how to deal with being upset and disappointed in an appropriate way, you are teaching the young person that everyone has those feelings but they still have to be dealt with in an acceptable way. It can also help to get the parents involved in any major issues to ensure that you are all on the same page and any strategies you put in place are being done at home too. Adults As we go through our day to day lives be it at work or in other settings there will always be times when you disagree with other adults. The way that you cope with these disagreements is very important. You must ensure that you always remain calm and polite, no matter how
