Marxist Reading Of A Doll s House
Since the love of money appears to be a strong characteristic in Nora, usually the decisions that she
takes are on the base of the influence of getting economic benefits. Nora borrows money secretly and
with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help Helmer when he
was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan. Here, an evidence of a Marxist characteristic appears.
While talking with Kristine about the consequences of the allowance she has and the trip, Nora says,
How lovely to think of that, Kristine! Carefree! To know that you are carefree, utterly carefree (. . .) it
is so marvelous to live and be happy! (Ibsen 1718). It is evident that Nora associates the acquisition of
wealth with freedom and the only way to be happy. In addition, it gives the Helmers another status
within the social order since they did not have enough money at the beginning. At this point of the
play, she thinks that money can make her happy, but at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Two elements are important in his perception of society. The first one is the repeated idea of the
relationship between freedom and money. When Nora suggests Helmer to borrow money in case they
need more, he replies exaltedly, No debts! Never borrow! Something of freedom s lost and something
of beauty, too from a home that s founded on borrowing and debt (Ibsen 1711). He evidently thinks
that the independence of someone has its base in the economic solvency. The second element is the
steadiness that riches cause in their daily life. The attitude in which Helmer talks about his new job is
interesting, he says to Nora, It s so gratifying to know that one s gotten a safe, secure job, and with a
comfortable salary (Ibsen 1712), Helmer words reflect that his happiness relays on the assurance of
material things. Therefore, both elements reflect again the Marxist tenet that relationships are
undermined by economic

College Is The Best Year Of Your Life
College is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. My first semester at college did not fit
that description. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I
had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most
terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit.
The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good
scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout
high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors.
Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet
going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to
do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with
one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones
in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them
and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce
them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls
really were.
It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit

Children Affected by Divorce
CHILDREN AFFECTED BY DIVORCE PROTECTING THEIR BEST INTERESTS On the 11th of
June, 1996, the Family Law Reform Act 1995 came into effect amending certain sections of the
Family Law Act 1975, in particular, those relating to the care of children involved in divorce
situations. The object of these amendments, according to the new act, was to ensure two things.
Firstly, that the children may receive adequate and proper parenting to help them achieve their full
potential, and secondly, to ensure that parents fulfil their duties, and meet their responsibilities,
concerning the care, welfare and development of their children. These recent amendments are clearly a
positive step forward for family law because the law has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the latter results, then in deciding what is best for the child, the court takes into consideration all or
most of the following factors the expressed wishes of the child, the child s relationship with each of
the parents, the effects of changes in the child s lifestyle, the capacity of each parent, the child s
maturity, sex, and background, the need to protect the child from abuse, any history of family violence
involving the child, and the parents attitude towards the child. This system of determining the child s
best interests is very effective because it is very comprehensive as a result of the many factors which
are taken into account, therefore leaving very little chance for the case to result in an unjust
judgement. In some cases, courts may rule that it is in the child s best interests if they do not have
regular contact with each parent. An example of such a case is Holswich v. O Farrell which took place
in the full court of the Family Court of Australia on the 26th of November, 1996. The father, Joe
William George Holswich, appealed against the decision made on the 17th of May, 1996, allowing
him contact with the child for only one hour every three months for one year and then one hour each
month after the first year. The main reason for the considerably small amount of contact with the child

Analyze the first humans.
One of the first humans, or hominids, was discovered to be living in the eastern and southern regions
of Africa approximately three to four million years ago. They were named the Australopithecines,
which means southern ape men. These bipedal hominids developed basic stone tools. Another kind of
hominid known as the Homo habilis, or handy humans, was discovered in Africa by Louis and Mary
Leakey in 1959. The Homo habilis had a significantly larger brain than the Australopithecines.
Equipped with a more complex brain, these hominids were able to not only walk upright, but also to
gather various nutritionally beneficial foods such as seeds, nuts, and meats. But the Homo erectus, ...

The land north of the Indus River was thought to have been unoccupied and segregated from the
growing civilization in the river valley to the south. But recent evidence proves otherwise; that there
was, in fact, a lost civilization located in the region north of the Indus River. Archaeologists have
discovered mudbrick settlements and irrigated fields that stretch all the way from the Caspian Sea to
modern day Afghanistan. They have also discovered proof of writing, trade with other civilizations,
and the domestication of animals like sheep and goats to have occurred in the area. These remains
indicate a civilization dating back to approximately the third millennium B.C.E. The founders of the
civilization have not yet been discovered, but this mysterious society serves as proof that ancient
civilizations could prosper in areas beyond the river valleys located on the borders of the Asian and

Canadian Mining Companies Are Responsible For Numerous...
Canada is home to some of the largest mining corporations in the world. In fact, seventy five percent
of the world s mining companies are based in Canada (Dean, 2013). These companies are involved in
the extraction of numerous resources, including silver, petroleum, bitumen and coal. Canadian mining
operations also have a particular focus in gold, as twenty one of the country s top forty mining
companies are involved in gold extraction. With billion dollar annual revenues and interests in almost
every continent, these multinational companies are making a large impact around the globe (Canadian
Mining Journal, 2014). However, these impacts are not necessarily positive. Canadian mining
corporations have failed to implement CSR policies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since these firms have such an extensive presence in Latin America, the management of these
companies is having a direct impact on the environment and on the lives of those who live there.
Environmental and Human Rights Violations Most mining projects aim to exploit territories of great
ecological richness and/or the lands inhabited by... ethnic minorities (U.S. Office, 2013). Many times,
when mining operations commit environmental violations, they commit human rights violations as
well. For this reason, it is hard to separate these two types of violations. Large scale, open pit mining
by Canadian corporations is responsible for a myriad of environmental infractions, not only affecting
ecosystems, but also having a profound, direct or indirect, impact on the lives of millions living in
Latin America.
1.1 Water Violations
Water is one of the most affected resources in the region due to mining operations as mass mining
extractions are having detrimental effects on surface and ground water (Cereceda, 2007). First, there is
the problem of Acid Mine Drainage, or AMD. Naturally, sulphuric acid is produced when sulphides in
rocks are exposed to water and air. AMD, however, is a result of this process being greatly magnified.
Large quantities of rocks containing sulphides are excavated in these open pit mines, reacting to water
and air and creating sulphuric acid. This acid leaches out of the rock, sometimes for

ABSTRACT : In this paper we simulatd an optical transmission system in optical fiber using different
pulses .The optical fiber system used in telecommunication system has small size or dimension, low
loss and low interference from outside environment. Optical fiber are of various configurations , we
are using fiber bragg grating as the dispersion compensator in the fiber optic cable . We are using FBG
in the simulation as because it offers more bandwidth .Optisystem software is used to analyse the
optical transmission system . In the simulation of the communication system appropriate values of the
input power , fiber cable length and attenuation coefficient is taken around the cable section and the
output pwer , noise figure , gain is found out at the receiver. The transmitter frequency and cut off
frequency of the receiver is made constant .

The Role of Commander in Chief as Exemplified by Washington and Jackson
The position of President of the United States was created through the ratification of the United States
Constitution. One of the many roles assigned to the President was that of Commander in Chief. To
date, that role has been held by 45 different presidents. Two of the earliest presidents exemplified the
role of being Commander in Chief of a national military by personally leading a United States militia
to combat a rebellion and by using military intimidation to quell rebellions. Both George Washington
and Andrew Jackson exemplified the role of Commander in Chief when they faced the issue of
rebellion at different times in American history. George Washington quelled a rebellion of farmers in
Pittsburgh who were protesting the Whiskey Tax by physically leading an armed militia into the city.
Andrew Jackson, on the other hand, threatened South Carolina with military force by passing the
Force Bill following South Carolina s resistance to federal taxes.
Following the ratification of the Articles of Confederation in March of 1781, the Constitution of the
United States was placed in effect on March 4th, 1789 ( Nat l Constitution Center ). The Constitution
was created as a replacement for the Articles of Confederation with multiple purposes in mind. One of
the purposes of the Constitution was to create a national government, consisting of three branches,

The Issue Of The United States ( U.s. )
I. Explanation of Issues What is the main problem/question at issue in this article? The main problem
at issue in the article is that the United States (U.S.), as a country, are still largely employing the Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) to measure the welfare of the nation although the welfare of a nation can
scarcely be inferred from a measurement of national income. What are some of the subsidiary,
embebbed, or implicit aspects of the problem, and what are their relationship to each other? There are
also other aspects to the problem. These aspects include: (1) the Congress did not heed Simon Kuznets
s warning about how little GDP is connected to welfare of the nation; (2) Americans only came to
know more about limitations of the GDP in measuring their well being after Great Recession; and (3)
there is the emergence of a suggestion to implement alternative measures that more accurately reflect
the progress of human well being. These aspects are related to one another. The Congress s initial
ignorance led to the eventual late discovery about how the GDP has its limits. This in turn led to the
creation of or debate for other measures of welfare. This shows how the movement for alternative
measures to human well being is being triggered. This would then introduce the idea of including
more factors other than national income into the measurement of well being. For instance, according
to Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), the well being of individuals is comprised of economic,

Who Is Jean Valjean s Death
The Resurrection of Jean Valjean In 1862, author Victor Hugo published what is viewed today as one
of the most interesting and phenomenal historic fictional books, Les Miserables. The epic novel
eventually inspired many other writers and screenwriters to create the musical and movie versions.
There are many themes present in the Les Miserables works of art, including the subject matter of
redemption. For example, in Les Miserables, author Victor Hughes uses Jean Valjean and his
evolution from having a terrible childhood to becoming a good hearted man to prove that anyone can
become a good person no matter how unfortunate their life is. Jean Valjean suffered a serious
traumatic childhood that eventually caused him to have a negative attitude ... Show more content on

How Change Is Important For The Success Of Managing Change
Change plays a vital role in the world of business. It is also an aspect that cannot be stopped, it can
only be managed or led, no matter how much businesses try change is inevitable. Therefore, it is the
job of the company to be able to quickly adapt when change hits. There are many aspects which can
contribute to the need for change, both internal and external. Change management can be regarded as
managers applying their existing knowledge base in a systematic manner to problems requiring
technical solutions, with minimal inputs from other quarters ... in a static and isolated environment
(Paton and McCalaman, 2000, p.21). However, businesses do not have to fear change, it can, when
managed correctly, bring an overall improvement on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This framework can help to identify areas which need to be changed, to improve performance. For
instance, under the superordinate goals element are the mission, vision, goals and objectives (Johnson
et al., 2014). If this element is different to what is desired by the company, then change is required. In
addition, if members of staff are underperforming, then it can be identified that a change is necessary.
Therefore, it can identify internal triggers which may bring about the need for change, such as:
New senior management or chief executive
Poor performance of staff
Loss of profit
New missions, visions, goals and objectives
High employee turnover
Low morale of staff
The use of new technology
The relocation of factory, staff, resources, etc.
Merger, Acquisition, Takeover or Divestment
Shortages or surpluses of labour (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2013; Johnson et al., 2014; Paton and
McCalman, 2000)
In addition, the 7s can be split into hard and soft factors. Hard factors, such as: strategy, structure and
systems, are easily identifiable, limited problems in which solutions are more feasible (Paton and
McCalaman, 2000). According to Sirken, Keenan and Jackson (2006), hard factors have three
distinctive characteristics. Firstly, hard factors can be measured in both direct and

Essay On Iago
Shakespeare s Iago A depraved soul would generate chaos, inflict pain, and stir up trouble for its own
satisfaction. Iago undoubtedly fits this description seeing that he is a sadist who attains power by
annihilating others in cruel and unusual ways. In William Shakespeare s The Tragedie of Othello, the
Moore of Venice, he is a sinister force which steers virtuous people towards their gruesome deaths.
Furthermore, he is the core focus of this academic essay. Our antagonist is an astounding piece of
work. He obstinately pleads indifference despite dedicating his entire existence for revenge. A more
favorable course of action involves starting over with a clean slate but he couldn t as a result of his
wounded pride. In addition, he is self destructive seeing that he allowed racial hatred to consume him
and become his undoing. Even though he invents elaborate lies to be in control, he claims a reputation

insecurities about his age, race, and lack of experience with women. Our tragic hero is an eloquent and
physically powerful figure, respected by everyone. In spite of his elevated status, he allowed himself
to be led astray. His trusting nature combined with his jealous, self doubting personality played an
essential role in his downfall. As a matter of fact, his insecurities are so close to the surface that a few
words of hint and innuendo can tear the confident exterior and expose his fears, desires, and tendency
to violence. Every tragic hero has a hand in the tragedy that befalls including

Green Barrier to China s Export
Introduction
As the world economy moves towards globalization, China has become more open to trade with other
countries. Its international trade volume had risen from US$20.6 in 1978 to US$1,422 billion in 2005
(Wang amp; Liu, 2007). Since China s exports mainly focus on the labor intensive and resource
intensive industries, this exports pattern causes a serious environmental problem in China. Green
barriers become a kind of emerging non tariff barrier which is used for the developed countries to
protect their production and economic development in recent years. The main forms of green barriers
include green tariff and market access, green packaging and labeling requirements, green technology
standards, Green health inspection system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Green barriers are the outcome of economic development . On the one hand, production and
development of technology increase people s income and living standards. On the other hand, it has
irreversible negative influence on the natural resources and environment, such as desert encroachment,
deforestation, water shortages, acid rain, biodiversity reduction (Wang amp; Liu, 2007, p.2).
Therefore, many regulations and principles point out that international trade must integrate with the
environment and the economic development. To this extent, green barriers have a rational and positive
effect on protecting environment as well as the health of human beings, animals and plants.
Specifically, the reasons are explained as follows.
First, a green barrier has been widely accepted by WTO members in principle as an environmental
measure related to trade. The European Union has applied ISO 14000 to request all imported goods
meet environment standards. Second, green barriers are not only embodied in environmental and
technological effects, but also in aligning world production according to true comparative advantage.
One country will have a positive effect on its neighbor and global environment through protecting the
environment, so green barriers has a positive global externality. Third, strict environmental regulations
can improve efficiency and encourage innovations that improve

Muscle Soreness Essay
Muscle Soreness Nearly anyone who works out regularly has experienced sore muscles after exercise.
Sometimes you will feel it later that night, or the next morning and in some cases, you may actually
think you are out of the woods, only to wake up two days later with stiff, tender muscles that feel as
tight as rubber bands. For some people, sore muscles are a reward after a hard workout. In fact, some
people are not happy unless they are sore after their workout, while others could live without it. Either
way, all of us have probably experienced muscle soreness at one time or another. There are two types
of exercise related muscle soreness. Immediate muscle soreness or acute muscle soreness quickly

According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that result
from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and fluids that
flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle referred to is
microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type
of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling and inflammation can build up for
days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be worse two , three, or three or even four
days after a workout for muscles to heal completely depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle
soreness can be prevented with some measure taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a
short time only. Increase your activity a little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual
has experienced delayed muscle soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter
that sensation again until the intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been
shown to produce a rapid adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise
intensity level. Unless the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how
much intensity level as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle
soreness are as follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in

Ability Grouping In Australia
The literature also suggested that some schools in Australia practice ability grouping in order to
address the learning needs of all students so that they are able to achieve high student outcomes in

Conclusion
A summary of the major agreements and disagreements about the focus area
The major point of contention in ability grouping is that it may create learning gaps and widen
inequality of educational opportunities among the ability groups. Whole class instruction has prevailed
in schools for a long time with the belief that it presents the same stimulation and opportunity for all

Watson And Crick What Is Life Summary
The quest for deoxyribonucleic acid was a search that had drawn out for quite a long time. The fame
for the discovery of the structure of the double helix belonged to Watson and Crick, for they had
debunked the mystery in 1953. Their finding denoted a milestone in the history of science. It also set
the path for future biology studies. This study like all others, began with a solitary idea, a single
experiment, which sparked future generations to follow the same path. This follows the fact that the
scientific method is not linear, it is circular. Utilizing this, the two researchers, Watson and Crick,
began with a purpose, collected background research on the topic, and created a hypothesis which led
them to results that may or may not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both John Watson and Francis Crick did not start out the task of uncovering the structure of
DNA, they both eased into it. At the time of my arrival, Francis theories spread far beyond the
confines of protein crystallography. Anything important would attract him (9). A major factor in his
leaving physics and developing an interest in biology has been the reading in 1946 of What is Life? by
the noted theoretical physicist Erwin Schrȍdinger (13). This demonstrates that while Crick did leave
physics, he did it for a reason. After reading the novel, he was inspired to start a new science life.
Instead of focusing on protein crystallography, the book s ideology moved Crick s attention to DNA.
It was Wilkins who had first excited me about X ray work on DNA... My interest in DNA had grown
out (21). This indicates how Watson commenced his search on DNA. Although not stated outright,
Watson got his ideas from Wilkin. He had observed Maurice s words and from this, he began to
question and became intrigued. The same is applicable to Francis. He embarked on the path of DNA
because of the book What is Life?, which shows that it must have sparked inquiries, since he
developed an interest in biology and then acted upon it with Watson alongside

With every commandment broken, the written rules on the tarred wall were changed in order for
Napoleon and other pigs to get away with breaking the original commandments. With most of the
animals being illiterate and barely knowing the alphabet, it was even easier for Napoleon and the other
pigs to break them without confrontation from the rest of the animals on the farm. Eventually, the
commandments became: Two legs good, four legs better, no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets, no
animal shall drink alcohol to excess, no animal shall kill any other animal without cause. Eventually in
order to allow the pigs to have more power and privilege over the other animals, all the
commandments were replaced with just one phrase: animals are equal, but some animals are more
equal than others. The changing of the rules represents how Napoleon has changed throughout the
story. At the beginning he was equal with everyone including Snowball, but because of his natural

P ∝ T which can also be written as P=kT and be rearranged as P/T=k and also Pi/Ti = Pf/Tf. This is
considered the Gay Lussac Law. Pressure is proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to
volume and volume is proportional to temperature. As Gay Lussac has a law, Charles and Boyles has
their personal laws. Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume
for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically
is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the
volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If
temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is
called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law
includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the
variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. The combined gas law shows that pressure is
inversely proportional to volume, or higher volume equals lower pressure, pressure is directly
proportional to temperature or higher temperature equals higher pressure, and also that volume is
directly proportional to temperature, or higher temperature equals higher

A Literature Review On Biological Neural Network
Chapter 2: Literature Review
In this chapter, we discuss a brief introduction of neural network and biometrics . Traditionally, the
term neural network had been used to refer to a network or circuit of biological neurons. Neural
networks are inspired by our brains. The modern usage of the term often refers to artificial neural
networks, which are composed of artificial neurons or nodes. Thus, the term has two distinct usages:

chemically linked or functionally linked neurons. The human brain owns about 1014 synapses and

The Three Branches Of Government

15 July 2017 Three Branches of Government In the United States, our federal government is made up
of three branches. The first branch includes the President of the United States presenting the
Executive. The Executive Branch takes control in making sure the people of the United States obey all
laws. The President works with Congress to administer laws. The second branch of government
includes the Legislative branch, also known as Congress. The Legislative Branch includes the Senate
and the House of Representatives. There are 100 senators 2 from each state and 435 representatives.
The number of representatives is decided by population of state. The third branch of government is the
Judicial Branch which includes 9 Justices of Supreme Court. The Supreme Court makes all decisions
meaning they are the highest of all courts. Center of operation for all three branches are located in
Washington, DC. The President of the United States has many demands that are required to keep this

Violence In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton

Examples Of Racism In The Bluest Eye

The Hurt of Internalized Racism
Racist ideology is institutionalized when how people s interactions reflects on an understanding that
they share the same beliefs. However, in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the topic of racism is
approached in a very unique way. The characters within the novel are subjected to internalizing a set
of beliefs that are extremely fragmented. In accepting white standards of beauty, the community
compromises their children s upbringing, their economic means, and social standings. Proving
furthermore that the novel has more to do with these factors than actual ethnicity at all.
In The Bluest Eye, characters experience a variety of oppressive , that give rise to the never ending
cycle of victimization in both the families and neighborhood. Throughout the novel, the black
community accepts white beauty ideals, for example, judging Maureen s light skin to be highly
attractive in comparison to Pecola s darker features. Racism is also apparent in other indirect ways.
There is a general sense of worthlessness that certain colored characters subconsciously integrate into
their daily lives, even without the constant reminder of their apparent ugliness . For example, the
Breedloves did not live in a storefront because they were having temporary difficulty adjusting to the
cutbacks at the plant. They lived there because they were poor and black, and they stayed there
because they believed they were ugly.

The Battle Of The Confederate Flag
When I first came across the Negative Views assignment, I immediately thought of the Confederate
Flag. It was an obvious choice considering all the attention and the controversy surrounding it in the
past few weeks. For me personally, if I was asked six months ago what I thought about the
Confederate flag, I would say I loosely associated it with the term redneck. I looked up the definition
of redneck on Internet Slang and it said redneck means, Unsophisticated rural person from Southeast
USA. That is a good explanation of what I think of when I think of the word redneck and when I
associate it with the Confederate Flag. There was a mild negative association with this flag. But I need
to back up a bit before I continue. I am a 39 year old white woman that grew up in Chicago. I learned

The “rightness” of Native American boarding school Essay
In the 1870s, the U.S. government enacted a policy of assimilation of Native Americans, to
Americanize them. Their goal was to turn them into white men. Schools were an important part of
facilitating their goal. In 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian School. It was the first
school in which Native American children were culturally exposed to American ideology. The idea for
the boarding school first came through treatment of Cheyenne warriors. In the 1860s, Americans were
in the midst of a major western migration. Settlers were moving into the western region, pushing
natives off lands, and in some cases, killing livestock. Warriors then took revenge on settlers and
soldiers. General Sherman called for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pratt then turned his attention to native children. He saw the example of the Hampton Institute for
Negroes, which taught children industrial skills. He concluded that to transform natives, one had to
start with the children. In 1879, the government consented to Pratt s request. He went to Dakota
Territory to find students for his new Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Pratt determined the
only way to change them was assimilation through total immersion. The school was established in an
abandoned army post. The children wore military uniforms and cut their hair. In the first few years, the
children suffered epidemics of cholera, influenza, and tuberculosis. As a result, they made a cemetery
on the school.
Lack of cultural diversity
Ethnocentrism
Social workers strive to keep the uniqueness of individuals and communities. The preservation of
diversity honors the distinctiveness of individuals and communities. Boarding schools were genocidal
to the cultural structure of Native Americans. They were forced to assimilate to the image of the white
man: It disjointed family structure, dishonored their cultural differences and language. Children placed
in these schools were deprived of learning their heritage. Pratt s goal of humanizing Native Americans
is the basis of ethnocentrism. Pratt like many Americans during this time believed American culture
was the only and right way of life. Although most cultures have, tendencies of

against the reality of the world (Sanders 109). He acquired his wealth through bootlegging and
relations with corrupt individuals. However, he tries to preserve his innocence by recreating his past
with Daisy ( Fitzgerald F Scott ). The reality of the world leaves Gatsby with the feeling of emptiness
and desperation because his life was consumed with overwhelming wealth and a passionate devotion
to a relationship with Daisy, only to have it disappear (Dubose 75). Similar to the Lost Generation, at
the end of the novel Gatsby realizes the world is full of deception and cruelty, even after earning great
wealth ( Lost Generation ). A Lost Generation is defined as having developed the idiosyncratic and
personal manners and feeling emotionally and spiritually alienated from the previous generations
(Stegner 184). Jay Gatsby symbolizes the Lost Generation which F. Scott Fitzgerald connects to the
changing social attitudes such as wealth, love, and the corruption of innocence in The Great Gatsby.
Fitzgerald is a member of the Lost Generation and his life is portrayed through the character Gatsby.
Both of these individuals experienced the pain of lost love and crushed expectations because both
Fitzgerald and Gatsby seem to preserve a romantic state of mind in order to escape the painful reality
that they had lost the women they love (Sanders 109). Psychological and spiritual

Confucius Lives Next Door
Confucius Lives Next Door is a book containing the similarities and differences of the east and west.
Not only does this book contain similarities and differences, but it also contains historic and modern
day facts about Confucius and the Antalects. The main reason for the author writing this book was to
write how Confucius has influenced the population in the east in the past, and today. The book
describes how the Antalects are still part of modern education.
The quote I chose for this paragraph is in chapter 4, page 105. The quote says A true gentleman is
made, not born, says the master . The paragraph is talking about gentleman, and how one becomes a
gentleman. I agree with this statement, because when someone; boy or girl, is born, they don t
automatically open doors for others. They have to be taught how to respect people, and if the parent or
guardian does not do that, the child has to teach itself. They look at how other people act and choose
to be nice, polite and respectful, or rude and dishonest. This makes me feel happy, because the author
is stating what I believe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote is very long, so instead of typing the whole paragraph, I will type the part that caught my
attention. This says in other words, people feel the need to try not to do anything that might bother
other people . This caught my attention because I wish people in the west would consider this every
time they do something rude. I am not saying that everyone in the west is like this, but many people
are. When someone starts being unruly and loud in a quiet place, they are being selfish. That person is
bothering other people, and that is what people in the east try to avoid. Everyday confrontations, will
still happen, but imagine how calm the world would be if everyone were to think of that

High Stakes Testing
Testing the Joy Out of Learning sheds light on the negative effects of excessive test preparations and
test taking in the wake of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. The Act is a U.S. federal
program that seeks to improve student performance at primary and secondary schools. However,
under this program student face an unprecedented number of tests in math and reading. According to
this report, Students also take regular benchmark tests supposedly to predict performance on the
mandated tests and district assessments throughout the school year. The time spent talking about,
preparing for, and taking tests has increased exponentially (Nichols, Berliner, 2008, p. 14). Although
there has been no notable improvement in student learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead, the authors merely offer suggestions on ways minimalize the harmful effects. However, the
suggestions offered were similar to the effect achieved when applying a Band Aid to a deep wound.
Although, it conceals the cut the wound remains. One example, the authors suggest, eliminate the
word test from any banner, poster, or encouraging slogan (Nicholos Berliner, 2007, p. 18). As an
observer, I am hard pressed to find a sustainable student benefit aside from the removal of a negative
stimulus. A true and effective conclusion is to fight back against the federal government and demand
an end to high stake

A Tale of Two Cities
Charles Dickens characterizes the settings in his novel, A Tale of Two Cities, through indirect
comparison and contrast between Paris and London during the French Revolution, a political and
social upheaval from 1789 1799; There was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain face on
the throne of England; there was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a fair face on the throne of
France. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and
fishes, that things in general were settled for ever. (1.1.2) His distinguished way of approaching these
two cities bolsters the image of the characters he wants to convey through his novel. When doing so,
Dickens creates the environments of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately, Darnay does get acquitted; however, it was not because justice was served. Dickens s
demonstration of this scene portrays that there isn t much of a difference between the Londoners and
the Parisians, which sets a frightening image for France, considering the situation that is about to
unfold. The courtroom is one of the three major settings Dickens demonstrates for London. The
second setting in London is Manette s house in Soho and the third setting is the Tellson s Bank. On the
other hand, Tellson s is the representative of a British business and culture. Tellson s Banks seems to
be living up to the stereotypical British business corporation Dicken s identifies it to be; Tellson s
Bank by Temple Bar was an old fashioned place, even in the year one thousand seven hundred and
eighty. It was very small, very dark, very ugly, very incommodious. It was very small, very dark, very
ugly, very incommodious. I was an old fashioned place, moreover, in the moral attribute that the
partners in the House were proud of its smallness, proud of its darkness, proud of its ugliness, proud of
its incommodiousness. They were even boastful of its eminence in those particulars, and were fired by
an express conviction that, if it were less objectionable, it would be less respectable. This was no
passive belief, but an active weapon which they flashed at more convenient places of business. Tellson

  • 2. Marxist Reading Of A Doll s House Since the love of money appears to be a strong characteristic in Nora, usually the decisions that she takes are on the base of the influence of getting economic benefits. Nora borrows money secretly and with forgery (by any mean) from someone in order to afford a trip to Italy to help Helmer when he was sick; she works hard to pay for the loan. Here, an evidence of a Marxist characteristic appears. While talking with Kristine about the consequences of the allowance she has and the trip, Nora says, How lovely to think of that, Kristine! Carefree! To know that you are carefree, utterly carefree (. . .) it is so marvelous to live and be happy! (Ibsen 1718). It is evident that Nora associates the acquisition of wealth with freedom and the only way to be happy. In addition, it gives the Helmers another status within the social order since they did not have enough money at the beginning. At this point of the play, she thinks that money can make her happy, but at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two elements are important in his perception of society. The first one is the repeated idea of the relationship between freedom and money. When Nora suggests Helmer to borrow money in case they need more, he replies exaltedly, No debts! Never borrow! Something of freedom s lost and something of beauty, too from a home that s founded on borrowing and debt (Ibsen 1711). He evidently thinks that the independence of someone has its base in the economic solvency. The second element is the steadiness that riches cause in their daily life. The attitude in which Helmer talks about his new job is interesting, he says to Nora, It s so gratifying to know that one s gotten a safe, secure job, and with a comfortable salary (Ibsen 1712), Helmer words reflect that his happiness relays on the assurance of material things. Therefore, both elements reflect again the Marxist tenet that relationships are undermined by economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. College Is The Best Year Of Your Life College is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. My first semester at college did not fit that description. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit. The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors. Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls really were. It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children Affected by Divorce CHILDREN AFFECTED BY DIVORCE PROTECTING THEIR BEST INTERESTS On the 11th of June, 1996, the Family Law Reform Act 1995 came into effect amending certain sections of the Family Law Act 1975, in particular, those relating to the care of children involved in divorce situations. The object of these amendments, according to the new act, was to ensure two things. Firstly, that the children may receive adequate and proper parenting to help them achieve their full potential, and secondly, to ensure that parents fulfil their duties, and meet their responsibilities, concerning the care, welfare and development of their children. If the latter results, then in deciding what is best for the child, the court takes into consideration all or most of the following factors the expressed wishes of the child, the child s relationship with each of the parents, the effects of changes in the child s lifestyle, the capacity of each parent, the child s maturity, sex, and background, the need to protect the child from abuse, any history of family violence involving the child, and the parents attitude towards the child. This system of determining the child s best interests is very effective because it is very comprehensive as a result of the many factors which are taken into account, therefore leaving very little chance for the case to result in an unjust judgement. In some cases, courts may rule that it is in the child s best interests if they do not have regular contact with each parent. An example of such a case is Holswich v. O Farrell which took place in the full court of the Family Court of Australia on the 26th of November, 1996. The father, Joe William George Holswich, appealed against the decision made on the 17th of May, 1996, allowing him contact with the child for only one hour every three months for one year and then one hour each month after the first year. The Role of Commander in Chief as Exemplified by Washington and Jackson The position of President of the United States was created through the ratification of the United States Constitution. One of the many roles assigned to the President was that of Commander in Chief. To date, that role has been held by 45 different presidents. Two of the earliest presidents exemplified the role of being Commander in Chief of a national military by personally leading a United States militia to combat a rebellion and by using military intimidation to quell rebellions. Both George Washington and Andrew Jackson exemplified the role of Commander in Chief when they faced the issue of rebellion at different times in American history. George Washington quelled a rebellion of farmers in Pittsburgh who were protesting the Whiskey Tax by physically leading an armed militia into the city. Andrew Jackson, on the other hand, threatened South Carolina with military force by passing the Force Bill following South Carolina s resistance to federal taxes. • 9. The Issue Of The United States ( U.s. ) I. Explanation of Issues What is the main problem/question at issue in this article? The main problem at issue in the article is that the United States (U.S.), as a country, are still largely employing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to measure the welfare of the nation although the welfare of a nation can scarcely be inferred from a measurement of national income. What are some of the subsidiary, embebbed, or implicit aspects of the problem, and what are their relationship to each other? There are also other aspects to the problem. These aspects include: (1) the Congress did not heed Simon Kuznets s warning about how little GDP is connected to welfare of the nation; (2) Americans only came to know more about limitations of the GDP in measuring their well being after Great Recession; and (3) there is the emergence of a suggestion to implement alternative measures that more accurately reflect the progress of human well being. These aspects are related to one another. The Congress s initial ignorance led to the eventual late discovery about how the GDP has its limits. This in turn led to the creation of or debate for other measures of welfare. This shows how the movement for alternative measures to human well being is being triggered. This would then introduce the idea of including more factors other than national income into the measurement of well being. For instance, according to Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), the well being of individuals is comprised of economic, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, many regulations and principles point out that international trade must integrate with the environment and the economic development. To this extent, green barriers have a rational and positive effect on protecting environment as well as the health of human beings, animals and plants. Specifically, the reasons are explained as follows. First, a green barrier has been widely accepted by WTO members in principle as an environmental measure related to trade. The European Union has applied ISO 14000 to request all imported goods meet environment standards. Second, green barriers are not only embodied in environmental and technological effects, but also in aligning world production according to true comparative advantage. The type of muscle referred to is microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling and inflammation can build up for days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be worse two , three, or three or even four days after a workout for muscles to heal completely depending on the intensity of the workout. Once an individual has experienced delayed muscle soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter that sensation again until the intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been shown to produce a rapid adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise intensity level. This demonstrates that while Crick did leave physics, he did it for a reason. After reading the novel, he was inspired to start a new science life. Eventually in order to allow the pigs to have more power and privilege over the other animals, all the commandments were replaced with just one phrase: animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. The changing of the rules represents how Napoleon has changed throughout the story. At the beginning he was equal with everyone including Snowball, but because of his natural leadership, he s taken the role of being a superior to all the other animals and doing things that go against the original commandments of the Animal ... P ∝ T which can also be written as P=kT and be rearranged as P/T=k and also Pi/Ti = Pf/Tf. This is considered the Gay Lussac Law. Pressure is proportional to temperature and inversely proportional to volume and volume is proportional to temperature. As Gay Lussac has a law, Charles and Boyles has their personal laws. Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume for gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement mathematically is P ∝ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to volume. Charles Law states that the volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If temperature doubles, the volume doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is called the combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This gas law includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature, which include the variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. The quote says A true gentleman is made, not born, says the master . The paragraph is talking about gentleman, and how one becomes a gentleman. I agree with this statement, because when someone; boy or girl, is born, they don t automatically open doors for others. They have to be taught how to respect people, and if the parent or guardian does not do that, the child has to teach itself. They look at how other people act and choose to be nice, polite and respectful, or rude and dishonest. This makes me feel happy, because the author is stating what I believe. ... This says in other words, people feel the need to try not to do anything that might bother other people . This caught my attention because I wish people in the west would consider this every time they do something rude. I am not saying that everyone in the west is like this, but many people are. When someone starts being unruly and loud in a quiet place, they are being selfish. That person is bothering other people, and that is what people in the east try to avoid. Everyday confrontations, will still happen, but imagine how calm the world would be if everyone were to think of that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. High Stakes Testing Testing the Joy Out of Learning sheds light on the negative effects of excessive test preparations and test taking in the wake of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. The Act is a U.S. federal program that seeks to improve student performance at primary and secondary schools. However, under this program student face an unprecedented number of tests in math and reading. According to this report, Students also take regular benchmark tests supposedly to predict performance on the mandated tests and district assessments throughout the school year. The time spent talking about, preparing for, and taking tests has increased exponentially (Nichols, Berliner, 2008, p. 14). Although there has been no notable improvement in student learning ... However, the suggestions offered were similar to the effect achieved when applying a Band Aid to a deep wound. Although, it conceals the cut the wound remains. One example, the authors suggest, eliminate the word test from any banner, poster, or encouraging slogan (Nicholos Berliner, 2007, p. 18). As an observer, I am hard pressed to find a sustainable student benefit aside from the removal of a negative stimulus. A true and effective conclusion is to fight back against the federal government and demand an end to high stake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. A Tale of Two Cities Charles Dickens characterizes the settings in his novel, A Tale of Two Cities, through indirect comparison and contrast between Paris and London during the French Revolution, a political and social upheaval from 1789 1799; There was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain face on the throne of England; there was a king with a large jaw and a queen with a fair face on the throne of France. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and fishes, that things in general were settled for ever. (1.1.2) His distinguished way of approaching these two cities bolsters the image of the characters he wants to convey through his novel. When doing so, Dickens creates the environments of a ... Dickens s demonstration of this scene portrays that there isn t much of a difference between the Londoners and the Parisians, which sets a frightening image for France, considering the situation that is about to unfold. The courtroom is one of the three major settings Dickens demonstrates for London. The second setting in London is Manette s house in Soho and the third setting is the Tellson s Bank. On the other hand, Tellson s is the representative of a British business and culture. Tellson s Banks seems to be living up to the stereotypical British business corporation Dicken s identifies it to be; Tellson s Bank by Temple Bar was an old fashioned place, even in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty. It was very small, very dark, very ugly, very incommodious. It was very small, very dark, very ugly, very incommodious. I was an old fashioned place, moreover, in the moral attribute that the partners in the House were proud of its smallness, proud of its darkness, proud of its ugliness, proud of its incommodiousness. They were even boastful of its eminence in those particulars, and were fired by an express conviction that, if it were less objectionable, it would be less respectable. This was no passive belief, but an active weapon which they flashed at more convenient places of business. Tellson s[...] wanted no elbow room, Tellson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
