The Segregation And Subjugation Of African Americans
Political inequality has been an obstacle that many minority groups have encountered throughout
history. The segregation and subjugation of African Americans in the United States during the 1900s
was indifferent. Although innumerable people were opposed to the unfamiliar ideals of anti
segregation activists, George Edwin Taylor went against the standards of society, and explored new
civil morals. Through his endeavors, he was able to encourage people to divert from their accepted
beliefs and helped establish a foundation for the yet to come Civil Rights Movement. In the year 1857,
George Edwin Taylor was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to a free black, Amanda Hines, and slave,
Bryant Taylor. At the time of his birth, Arkansas was preparing for the forced removal of
approximately 700 free blacks. On February 12, 1859 the Free Negro Expulsion Act was enacted in
the state of Arkansas. All free blacks were ordered to leave the state by January 1, 1860, or they would
consequently be sold into slavery. Amanda Hines fled the state with her child to Alton, Illinois. In
1861 or 1862 Hines died from tuberculosis when George was only four or five years old during the
climax of the Civil War. George later claimed that when he was an orphan whom had lived in dry
good boxes in Alton. In 1865 at the age of seven, George boarded the Hawkeye State, a side paddle
wheeler, and disembarked at La Crosse, Wisconsin, on May 8, 1865. In 1865, La Crosse had a small

Temperatures In Arctics
Due to rising temperatures, the ice is beginning to melt. Because of this, the sea levels are rising. As of
now, the temperature in the Arctic have risen two to three times than the global average of 57.2
degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius). According to climate researchers from the Alfred Wegener
Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), stated that from the planets history,
summertime sea ice was to be found in the central Arctic in periods characterized by higher global
temperatures but less CO2 than today. Also, the researchers studied the glacial history of central
Arctic. From this, they drew the conclusion that the last interglacial was about 115,000 and 130,000
years ago. Thanks to the sediment

Hart s Account Of The Relationship Between Law And Morality
Outline and critically evaluate Hart s account of the relationship between law and morality.
Introduction:
Natural law theorists believe that all law must be morally justified if it can be legitimised as law at all.
Legal positivism means the simple contention that it is in no sense a necessary truth that laws
reproduce or satisfy certain demands of morality, though in fact they have otherwise done so. (Hart,
DATE)
In Hart s eyes, though there may be a congruence between law and morality, it is by no means a
necessary connection. (Hart, DATE)
Hart promotes the need for a clear distinction between law and morality on two levels. Firstly the
Social and hermeneutic level in regards to both law and morality sharing vocabulary in both structure
and function showing that in many societies legal rules will match their moral rules. Second a logic
and hypothetical level Hart believes in the possibility of a legal system existing without the influence
of morality as there are cases were legal systems do not match the moral grounds of society.( see
Austins command theory and the idea of one sovereign ruling all) (SOURCE)
Hart s idea is this: All one/society needs is a legal system based on the four rules.
This paper will demonstrate how Hart s account of the relationship between law and morality shows
an understanding of how they both work together yet can also work as separate entities. It will take a
specific look into the internal point of view to aid the understanding of why

Case Study Of Air India
Objective
The objective of this case study is to understand the problems plaguing the Indian aviation sector
behemoth Air India. To analyze its organizational restructuring upon merger with Indian Airlines; the
effect it had on the physical and human capital of the company, and, how the management dealt with
the conflicts which arose from the deal.
Methodology
Findings Observations
Company Overview
Air India, the 3rd largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried is owned by Air India Limited,
a government of India enterprise and operates a fleet of Airbus Boeing aircraft. It is the first to provide
commercial airline services that became a public listed company after World War II. Founded by
J.R.D. Tata as Tata Airlines, it then became Air India and spread its wings as Air India International
Limited. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In July 1946, Tata Airlines was nationalized and was taken over by the Indian Government. It was
turned into a public enterprise and renamed as AIL. The origin of IAL dates back to 1953 when seven
domestic airlines were merged to form Indian Airlines Corporation (IAC). IAL enjoyed a monopoly as
the domestic air carrier till the Indian economy was liberalized in 1991. With the entry of private
airlines, IAL s monopoly began to decline.
With both these flagship air carriers (AIL IAL) performing poorly, the idea of a merger between the
two began to gain ground. Praful Patel submitted the merger plan to the Union Cabinet in March 2006
for approval. The Government of India ordered Accenture Inc. to formulate a road map for the
proposed merger. According to Accenture, net synergy benefits of Rs 8.2 billion (against the
integration cost of Rs 2 billion) was envisaged, potential recurring synergies were expected to enhance
profitability by Rs 6 billion at the end of the 3rd year of

Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two...
Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two Tabloid Newspapers
I will be focusing on the representation of celebrities in two newspapers, the Daily Mail and the Daily
Star. I chose these newspapers as one is a redtop and one a blacktop. The Daily Mail is a blacktop,
these are generally aimed at the higher classes as they contain more challenging language, and are for
perhaps more intellectual people. From this newspaper I chose £2m bland bombshell (3rd January
2004), an article on the recent successes of TV star Linda Barker. The Daily Star is a redtop, therefore
aimed at the lower classes. It uses more simple, colloquial language, as this is generally the language
that is best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am going to explore whose interests seem to be served in the articles I chose.
£2m bland bombshell tells of how Barker has gone from little known interior designer to one of the
most recognised faces on TV , even though she seemed destined to be C List . On this article,
practically the entire page is taken up by images of Barker compared to relatively little writing. The
pictures show all of her recent projects through which she has gained large sums of money. There are
10 images in total, each showing how much money she received from them, these could be shown to
emphasise just how many features Barker has appeared in and how much she has gained from them.
The article also grabs the readers attention, as there are so many pictures. This could also put more of
an emphasis on her looks, she is quite good looking and this may attract more readers.
The article on Barker is largely covered with images of her various projects. There are no shots in
which she comes across badly and she is posing in all of them. There are no pictures of her outside her
advertisements in her normal everyday life. This could suggest that advertising is her life, and she
does nothing but try and make more money. The pictures, which take up around 5/6 of the page,
emphasise just how many programmes she has been involved with. The

John Updike s The A P
The A P
Have you ever forgotten to pick up snacks or drinks from the grocery store before you went to the
beach? Well, nearly everyone has, maybe even the Kardashian s. I am going to write about the story A
P adding in secondary sources because I personally had a similar experience to what the girls went
through in this story and I want to compare my feeling to the way others may feel about this short
story. A P is a short story by author John Updike about three girls walking into the A P with bathing
suits on, supposedly forgetting to pick up something that is necessary for them to hang out at the
beach. Upon walking in the store, the girls find everything great until the manager causes a big scene

and two girls. After Governor Mifflin Senior High School Updike started his studies at Harvard
University to obtain a degree in English graduating as a Summa cum laude in 1954. When Updike was

that marked the beginning of his writing career. Altogether John Updike wrote many books but his top

Positive Aspects Of Becoming A President
If I were to become president, right when I get into office, I would do is make some adjustments to
our education pricing. First, I would make college not so high priced, meaning not such a high price
for books and admission. Second, I would try to get private schools to not pay so much, and since
most private or charter schools manufacture their own clothes, I would also try to get them to not
make the guardian pay so much for them. The very next thing I would do is I would set up multiple
stations in every state for kids and adults to come to and get food and or shelter. Then I would hire
people to go state to state picking up the people (mostly kids) that just want a home and we will ask
them do you want to be in foster care so you can

A Summary on James Joyce’s Eveline
In James Joyce s Eveline , Eveline remains in Dublin to care for her father, to take care of the house
and the kids, and she realized she was already comfortable in her current home. Eveline has lived in
Dublin her whole life in Dublin and has seen her siblings either leave home or pass away through
time. Yet she remains in the house that she grew up in, experienced the changes in environment,
changes in time, and the change in the people around her. She has seen her mother pass away, her
father grow older and crueler. She has witnessed the field in which they used to play every evening
with other people s children be destroyed by a man from Belfast who bought the field and built houses
in it not like their little brown houses but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eveline feared what would happen if she just got up and left her father. She was the one taking care of
him, regardless of his actions towards her. This fear can be backed up by state of Ireland during that
time, as it is written in On the Resources of Ireland Much of the public attention is at this time drawn
to the wants of the labouring poor of Ireland, and the great decay of her trade and manufactures. (425).
Thus in the end Eveline decided to stay in Dublin, her fear swallowed her up. However this isn t a bad
thing all together. It gave her the realization of what she truly wanted in the end, and just because she
gave into her fears, it does not mean she won t be happy where she stays.

King Arthur Themes
The film King Arthur differs in a great propensity with the traditional Arthurian tale. The elements
which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not
been included. The Holy Grail, a vital motif that is persistent in the traditional tale of King Arthur is
dropped from the cinematic representation of the tale. The film differs from the tale on multitudinous
accounts, for instance there is an absence of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere in the
movie. Moreover, the film chooses to not include Camelot, Avalon and Mordred. Important characters
like Mordred, the archetypical villain in the traditional tale of King Arthur is not ascribed to any
significance in the film. The character of Guinevere is indispensable in the Arthurian legend as well as
in the movie. However, the very characteristic of Guinevere is represented in a dynamically polar
opposite fashion in both the traditional tale of King Arthur and the movie. Contrary to the ancient tale,
Guinevere is no damsel in distress in the movie. The representation of Guinevere in the movie as a
warrior queen who partakes in the war along with King Arthur is emblematic as it does not depict the
character of a woman in the light of the gender typicality. It is an important alteration that the movie
chooses to make from the traditional tale.
There is no place accorded to the whimsical characters, situations or the places that over popularizes
the idea of the

SQL Server Proposal for GRW Inc Essay
When CCCL Inc was a small company, keeping records and customer data by the use of spreadsheets,
access databases, and manual records were realistic practices, but as the company has grown, it has
outgrown such practices. Management at GRW is now searching for a centralized database solution
that will allow multi department database collaboration as well as the ability to mine data as needed,
companywide. The proposed solution to the needs of the company is the installation of Microsoft SQL
Server 2012. The following report addresses the type of SQL Server to implement, security for the
new database, high availability, plans for backup recovery, integration services, and other related

a 2.0 GHz or faster CPU is recommended. The server must have at least 1 GB of RAM, and 6 GB of
hard drive space, although according to Microsoft, Disk space requirements will vary with the SQL
Server 2012 components you install (n.d.). The operating system that SQL Server 2012 is installed on
must be Windows Server 2008 SP2 (Datacenter, Enterprise, Standard, or Web Edition), or later. It is
recommended that GRW Inc obtain and implement the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2012. The
Enterprise Edition will undoubtedly contain features that the company will not use, by choice or by
lack of necessity, but those features will be available as the company grows and its needs change. Of
particular interest in the Enterprise Edition is the advanced security and advanced high availability
features which are not components of the lesser editions. According to Microsoft, these features add
transparent data encryption, SQL Server auditing, multiple active secondaries, and multi site geo
clustering (n.d.).
Two new physical servers will be needed for the new database, as well as a virtual machine (VM)
installation on one of the existing servers that is underutilized. One of the new servers will host the
primary database, and the other new server will host the disaster recovery replica. The VM database
will host a high availability replica of the database, and if the need

Software, Operating Systems, File Management And Digital...
Introduction
Over the course of the year I have submitted 4 different internal standards. Through the process these
internals I have applied skills that I have learnt in application software, operating systems, file
management and digital ethics. This four standards were:
1.41 (Implement basic procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome)
In this standard I was presented with a database of the food brought by students at the café which I
then completed and produced a mail merge of the products brought to be sent to the costumer s
parents. To do this I showed a variety of skills using Microsoft Excel and Word.
1.42/1.43 (Demonstrate understanding of basic concepts of digital media and to produce a specified
digital media outcome) In this standard I applied my knowledge of the Big Four (Contrast, Repetition,
Alignment and Proximity) as well as document layout to create a children s book.
1.50 (Demonstrate understand of the common components of digital infrastructures) In this standard I
used my knowledge of digital infrastructures to install and operating system which included drives
and utilities on the personal computer I had built in standard 1.51.
1.51 (Implement basic procedures for servicing a personal computer system) In this standard I used
my knowledge about servicing personal computer systems to find and fix problems in both hardware
and software.

Examples Of Code Of Ethics In Nursing Practice
I am going to expand upon Astha Regmi s comment about professional codes and guidelines in
Nursing Practice. I have chosen it because in her writing she has mentioned about professional
conduct, code of ethics, its purpose in the nursing career and some of the essential guidelines for
applying these ethics in the field of nursing.
Professional conduct is the reference point on the basis of which the acceptable manner has to be
portrayed by the professional person. Regardless of their job title, position or place of work, a person
needs to act and carry his responsibility in a professional way. (CFA, June 2014). Code of ethics is a
written document which contains a bunch of criterion, values, laws and principles which will be

A nurse who is knowledgeable and is sensitive to gather all these information will be able to convey a
qualitative nursing care. Every individual nurse is accountable to provide quality care as well as
promoting the care to uplift the standard of nursing care. The initial assessment of patient
requirements, preferences, their values, and beliefs need to be done. Accordingly, care has to be
planned and implemented. (Australia, Aug 2008).
Appropriate recording and reporting are also fundamental in promoting quality care. Care will be
more effective if provided collectively as a team. Providing care is one duty but side by side equal
priority should be in maintaining and following own ethics and principles. This is how sustainable and
appropriate care can be administered which will further contribute to maintaining dignity and integrity
of the profession. (Lachman, 2009)

Executive Summary
In this case study, we will be analyzing the current position of how well Kingsford is within the
marketplace and determine which of the issues are plausible causes in its drop in revenue. We will be
creating a comprehensive strategy as well as a marketing plan to evaluate and adjust the matter at
hand. First we will begin with identifying the issues and implementing a method to reemphasize the
importance of marketing in the business. The goal is to create a marketing plan that will add value to

Many purchases are currently made during grilling seasons such as spring and summer but by
transitioning the product towards the fall would increase the profit margin.
A second alternative could be to increase their advertising budget because it has been the only brand
within the charcoal industry that has been advertising. Their advertising budget is currently very low
so with an increase in spending it could definitely generate more attraction and promote Kingsford
charcoal as the better alternative.
Thirdly, option is to strategically adjust the prices of their products because consumers are often very
price sensitive. By doing so the company can either create more value that defines the quality and
quantity of the product.
Lastly, the company suggest to expand their current inventory through increasing production and
capacity. With the increase in production rate the company can gain more consumers as a whole
through supply and demand. Doing this would give the company an opportunity for more exposure

The University Of Oregon School Of Law
Marlen Pikovsky Personal Statement I am applying to the University of Oregon School of Law to
compliment my experiences as an undergraduate and to take the next step on my path towards my
professional goals. In order to become a successful legal professional in the field of international
human rights, one needs to understand the intricate complexities of global communities. The
University of Oregon School of Law will broaden my vantage point to encompass other legal realities
of migration and human rights. The academics, programs, and faculty in the University of Oregon
School of Law will facilitate my career development, and also expand upon what I have learned thus
far as an undergraduate. If admitted, I would tailor my studies to meet my interests in migrant
populations and subsequently, use my law degree to aid vulnerable populations. Like many others, my
perspective and ambitions are driven and profoundly influenced by my family s history. As the
daughter of two Ukrainian refugee immigrants, I have learned firsthand how important it is to have
access to legal resources. While living in the Soviet Union, my family was repeatedly denied
community benefits because of their Jewish heritage. Religious and ethnic persecution impacted my
family s life in negative ways, minimizing their confidence and limiting their opportunities. However,
once they received assistance from an outreach program, they were able to receive asylum in the

Journalism, I used think was taking stories and publishing them in as many words as possible for the
largest profit. I believed it was just sharing a story that only several hundred people would get hear of.
However, the truth is that it has the power to reach the masses. It is the beacon of light in a night of
despair, the force which highlights the grievances of the people, but most of all, it is a weapon of mass
destruction with the potential to obliterate any hopes or aspirations. Journalism is a blinding light, yet
also the darkness it produces.

Analysis Of Physicalism And What Aspect Of It Jackson Targets
003177126
1. The best aspect of my paper is the discussion of physicalism and what aspect of it Jackson targets in
his article.
2. My discussion of Jacksons response to Churchland s argument is a bit weak and I know I should go
back and look at it.
3. Explaining what physicalism is and Jackson s responses to it in detail while respecting the page

4. Should I talk more about the different types of physicalism?
In his article What Mary Didn t Know Frank Jackson comes up with a convincing argument, which
challenges physicalism, a theory of the mind, and its validity. In this paper I will look at Jacksons
argument, specifically his second premise, and whether or not his conclusion follows it. I will also
attempt to present the objections, which he presented to his paper and the replies he builds against
them.
Physicalism is the idea that the physical facts are all of the facts; which implies that if you know all of
the physical facts you know all facts. Physicalism is a type of substance monism and there are several
different kinds of physicalism, but it is not necessary to go into the specifics because Jackson targets
the validity of physicalism as a theory of the mind and not a specific type of physicalism.
Jackson s argument against physicalism, also known as the knowledge argument, is as follows:
(1) If Physicalism is true, then, for any domain, knowing all the physical facts in that domain is
knowing all the facts in that domain;
(2) For some

Identity As A Crisis Essay
Identity is a major theme for characters in almost all of world literature. Characters often struggle with
finding their identity or choosing the right one for them. Characters question themselves and must
reflect on the influences of culture, politics, religion, race, gender, and other people around them that
might impact their identity. In world literature today, characters struggle with who they are supposed
to be and who they want to be. A characters sense of who they are and what is acceptable in society
poses a potential conflict. Identity as a crisis is seen through a broad view of world literature, through
books read this term, and through specific quotes from the books. Throughout the texts we have read
this term, identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the quote from Kirk? Krak!, Danticat is describing the identity of people; however, the
people s identity only matters to themselves. Danticat is saying that people are only concerned about
themselves and not others. The author describes how a person s name is important to one s identity,
but no one in the world knows everything about everyone. When the author writes Timeless waters
and endless seas, this connects to the idea that there will forever be endless amounts of identities in the
world (Krik? Krak! 3). In the quote from The Bride Price, Emecheta is describing how Aku nna feels
that she has no identity because she has lost everyone in her family. Even though all of her family is
not physically gone, they may not be very close to her. This describes how the people who are close to
a character truly influence their identity. In Aku nna s case, because she is a women, does not have an
identity in her culture as well. As said earlier, men treat women differently in her culture; therefore,
her identity is meaningless to men. Emecheta is showing that even in her own family and society she
does not have an identity and is completely alone. In the quote from Foe, Susan is explaining how she
feels that she is only on the island to witness and understand what is happening to Cruso. Coetzee is
showing how Susan feels that even though she was on the island

Sociological Perspectives Of Sociology And Its Impact On...
Sociology is an important part of today s society as it is all around us and is in everything we do.
Sociology is the study of, the behaviour of people within society. It helps us to understand how society
works and how the impact of relationships and interactions between people influence society.
Sociology is shown through relationships, cultures, class, religion, education and upbringing.
Sociology has different sociological perspectives for example symbolic interactionism and
functionalism. Symbolic interactionism studies individuals and small groups within society and how
they behave, interact and believe about how society is what it is. Symbolic Interactionism was created
by Herbert Blumer. He based symbolic interactionism on three things which were that people act on
the meanings of things, social interactions build meanings and meanings depend and are modified by
people interacting with each other. Through communication and language, symbols are provided to
understand the world that we live in. Smoking is an example of symbolic interactionism as teenagers
believe it is cool to smoke, even though it Is bad for you and could lead to killing you but they think it
makes them look good in front of their friends.
Functionalism is the belief of everyone in society sharing the same norms and values that get passed
on through generations. Functionalists see society like a human body they believe that if one thing
stops working then everything else will slowing stop working

Comparision of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies Essay
Comparison of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies
We all know that our mothers and fathers gave us birth, and grandmothers and grandfathers gave our

the sky, the earth, the mountains and rivers, the plants, the animals, and the human beings? How was
the world created? What happened to the creator? These questions have puzzled and are asked by

The only difference is that in this Indian story, not even God (or an equivalent form) was there.
Egyptians and Chinese imagined the same scene, the Nun and the chaotic egg with a giant (Egyptian,
Lin 1). In contrast with the creation out of nothing, the indigenous Australian mythology tells us that
the stars, the sky, the sun, the moon, and the ancestors of all lives were already present in the
beginning, but they are sleeping under the crust of the earth in the water holes (Aborigine). Seneca
people believed that humans were living in the heaven originally, and there were only ocean and ocean
living lives on the earth (Creation). It is very interesting to recognize how important water is to lives.
Every account of creation that I have read included water before anything else was present.
Whatever was present in the beginning had managed to create all the rest, and the description of
creators are of three categories, a single creator, multi creators, and no creator. In Genesis, God is the
single creator, and so is Brahman of India. The difference is that the God is immortal, but Brahman is
mortal (Genesis, Genesis Project). In Chinese mythology, Pan Gu was the creator of everything but
men, who were created by Nu Wa, a goddess (Lin 1 5). Other examples of multi creators are in the
mythology of Egypt and Seneca in which the children of the creator became

Importance of Thinking in Troilus and Criseyde and Hamlet
Troilus and Hamlet have much in common. Both have represented the quintessential tragic heroes of
two literary periods. Both lovers, Troilus and Hamlet lose what they love despite their earth shaking

Now, Hamlet comprehends the arbitrary nature of power that would send an army against a minuscule
plot of ground. He understands good and evil and the machiavellian wheels that grease the way to the
throne as they are, a process in which he is complicit. Hamlet, a once simple prince, is sick at heart.
An inextricable belief in fate centers this bitter epistemological com ëment. In Hamlet s world, birth
alone is a telling reason and excuse for tainted character (1.4.24 26, 1.5.91). But heaven takes part as
well; there s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow (5.2.230 231). Taken together, this realization
of inequity and the apparently long understood mechanism of biological predestination, are staggering
to Horatio s sweet prince. If such biological predestination is true, then how should Hamlet understand
the base actions of his family members and of himself? Either his family are impostors to nobility or
this idea of predestination is faulty. The play gives ample evidence of a prince who has long dallied in
philosophy and seldom lived in the world. Indeed, the transparent nonsense that a person may not
exceed his birth is indicative of this. Like Joyce s Stephen Dedalus, Hamlet glamorizes death through
his sable clothes. Claudius?and Gertrude s advice is honest, sincere, and worldly: death is the most
commonplace of occurrences: accept it and nmove on. When the murder is revealed, progression

Apollo 13 Essay example
Apollo 13
Apollo 13 launched on April 11, 1970 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crewmembers
aboard the ship were James A. Lovell Jr., John L. Swigert Jr., and Fred W. Haise, Jr. Before the launch,
there had been a few problems. Thomas K. Mattingly was supposed to fly on the Apollo 13 but he was
exposed to the measles. He didn t have the antibodies to fight the disease, causing him to not be able
to go into space. Swigert took his place. Right before the launch, one of the technicians saw that the
helium tank had a higher pressure than expected. Nothing was done to fix this. During liftoff, the
second stage engine shut down, causing the other engines to run longer than planned. Apollo 13 was
off to a rocky start.

Because of the explosion, the parts weren t used as had been planned. The Service Module (SM) was
supposed to provide the crew with oxygen, water and power before the mission. When the oxygen
exploded, it led to the loss of some of those necessities and the Service Module was nonfunctional.
The Command Module (CM) also provided the crew with power and oxygen. It was also prepared
with couches and served as a control center. When the explosion took place, they had to shut off the
Command Module to allow enough power for reentry. The Lunar Module (LM) was supposed to
provide the crew with living quarters when landed on the moon. However, on
this mission, the crew could not land on the moon. The Lunar Module then acted as a lifeboat. It
allowed the astronauts to preserve the Command Module supplies needed for reentry.
The ground controllers had some major problems to solve. They had to write and test new procedures
to send up to the crew for a safe arrival home. A new navigation problem had to be solved to provide
the crew with a speedy return. Water was also a main concern. The crew was estimated to run out of
water in about five hours. But tests on previous Apollo missions found that the ship could run without
water for about seven hours. The astronauts began to conserve water by cutting the amount they drank
to six ounces each day. The crew began to get dehydrated and they

Sigmund Freud s Purpose Of Religion
Religion has a different purpose and meaning for every individual. For some people, religion is a
major part of life, while for others religion isn t even a factor in their life. Sigmund Freud looks at
religion through a very philosophical view. Unlike many others Freud uses science and reason behind
all of his thoughts. In this essay I will be discussing Sigmund Freud s views on religion. Specifically, I
will be looking at the purpose of religion, the value of lack of value of religion and the future of
religion according to Freud. Freud uses reason and science through his points instead of belief. Using
reason is what sets Freud so far apart when talking about religion. As you see, Sigmund Freud takes a
very different stance of religion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, Freud believes that religion was created for the purpose of establishing rules and
safety. Since we are currently at a point in civilization where we have laws that govern what is right
and wrong what is the purpose of religion? Freud believes that religion will eventually die off as time
goes on. With everyday we advance in technology and science. With this new found wealth of
knowledge we as humans have also gain reason. Freud believes that now that we have the resources
we are able to believe in reason and science instead of religion. Human civilization, by which I mean
all those respects in which human life has raised itself above its animal status and differs from the life
of beast (Freud 6). According to Freud us humans are now much more advanced compared to our
animal counterparts. Therefore, we are able to think intelligently. As we begin to advance in
civilization the fall of religion will be unavoidable based on Freud s statements. Humans are a group
of naturally curious animals. We strive to know and learn more everyday and we refuse to stop until
we know everything we can know. Religious ideas are teachings and assertions about facts and
conditions of external (or internal) reality which tell one something one has not discovered for oneself
and which lay claim to one s belief (Freud 31). Based on this Freud

How Are The Population Policies Different Between India...
How are the population policies different between India and China?
Guifang Tang
Introduction China and India are the two countries which have the largest population in the world.
These two countries have many similarities, especially they have fabulous growing speed during the
globalization. In the global economic market, China has the biggest manufacture market and cheap
labor (Justin Paul Erick Mas.2016). India gained independence from the United Kingdom from 1947
and started to focus on improving their food security and developing the technology of agriculture, so
India has the evidence dominate the service market from agriculture transfer to service sector due to
the globalization too in recently decades (Kedia Lahiri 2007). In the same situation of China, the
whole society focused on agricultural reforms since the 1970s. As two fastest developing countries,
China and India typically have a big number of population and cheap labor for manufacture industries
which gained a lot of attention around the world. Population in one country could be the productivity
power or the economic factor force of developing. On the other side, it could be the main reason of
hinder the development. So this paper will directly analysis these two nations population policy, in
addition, based on their different society contexts and culture value, analysis the population problem
and social issues around the policy.

Summary Of The Cocktail Waitress
The Cocktail Waitress written by James P. Spradley and Brenda E. Mann is a 1975 classic. It studies in
depth and examines a familiar female role in contemporary American society. Its authors use
fieldwork methods to the study of social behavior in a college bar, as presented in the context of a
cocktail waitress. They describe the daily lives of women in details and the meaning of work in a man
s world. They provide a wealth of empirical data on the nature of being female in the society. The
book examines male female relationships as well as patterns of male dominance in social interactions.
It shows how these are connected to more general issues in anthropology. The objective presentation
of the waitress casts light on significant social issues

My share of the reward was more than enough for tuition to the Academy, and with letters of reference

money took care of my mother and sisters, while I was a student and sending back no salary from the

by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of communication, between Offender Managers and
external agencies. An evaluation will be made of how Offender Managers are able to use feedback
from community interventions, to effectively manage an individuals risk throughout supervision
sessions and explore different strategies used in order build a relationship and manage compliance
throughout an order. This essay will highlight diversity issues raised and how future practice can be
improved from reflecting on current work. I will be referring to two case studies drawn from my own
practice as a Probation Service Officer (PSO), Mr N and Mr C, and demonstrate how theoretical
literature and research has informed decision making in managing risk and planned interventions.
An Offender Manager s (OM) role identified by Goldhill Skinner, 2013, is to build a rapport,
understand an offender s pathway to offending, undertake a risk assessment that addresses the risk of
reoffending, the risk of harm that they pose, and to devise a plan for supporting them out of offending.
In order to manage the risk in both cases, I have used the risk assessment tools Offender Assessment
System (OASys) and the Offender Group Reconviction Scale (OGRS) to determine that both the
offenders which I will be referring to pose a medium risk of reoffending. OASys was introduced in the

Safe Injection Sites
In an ally, doorway, or behind a telephone pole, people crouch to inject their deadly dose of cocaine,
heroin, and other drugs, oblivious to the daytime traffic on a nearby street. This is the day to day life
of the drug users in downtown Vancouver; do you think there is nothing that can be done? Well, there
is. Safe injections sites are a clean, safe, supervised environment where drug users can inject their own
drugs off the streets, and connect to addiction, health and community services. InSite is the first and
only supervised injection site in North America (InSite for Community Safety). InSite is located at

It is encouraging to know the fact that no instances of syringe lending or borrowing were observed
among individuals who reported performing all injections within the safe injection site... (M.W.
Tyndall et al.). Drug users that go to InSite for their injections are less likely to lend a syringe to
someone else. Ninety four percent of frequent safe injection site users refused to lend out a syringe in
the last six months compared to the eighty nine percent of infrequent users. This is because InSite
users benefit from safer injecting education. Approximately eighty percent of safe injection site users
practice safer injection (i.e. reusing syringes less often, injecting indoors, and using clean water and
equipment). This is also because of learning about safer injecting. The transmission of blood borne
diseases has been reduced and will continue to if more safe injection sites are opened in the Lower
Mainland. The number of safe injection sites in the Lower Mainland must increase immediately. More
safe injection sites will reduce the transmission of blood borne infections, will notably reduce public
injections and improve public order, and will greatly reduce overdose fatalities. More safe injection

The Case For Contamination By Kwame Anthony Appiah Summary
In Kwame Anthony Appiah s essay, The Case for Contamination, he discusses the complications and
benefits of globalization, and the impacts it has on smaller cultures. Appiah begins his argument with
an apparent negative connotation with the term globalization how it threatens the ability for a culture
to maintain traditions with influences from the western world. As his essay continues on, he proves the
contrary, and that members of society have the capability to keep traditions whilst interacting with
western ideals.
Appiah continues, and delves into the story of a Ghanaian Wednesday Festival, a tradition that has

Romance de La Pena Negra Essay
A commentary of Romance de la pena negra, Federico García Lorca Lorca described Romance de la
pena negra as one of the most representative poems from the Romancero gitano . The poem was
written in 1924, when Lorca had been sent away from Granada, due to his homosexuality and was
living in Madrid, the centre of the cultural ferment of the 1920 s. Here, he attended the Institución
Libre de Enseñanza (ILE), where he was inspired to search for the national Spanish spirit, through
literature. Romance de la pena negra, follows the typical writing structure of the romance style. This

This alludes to the idea of maternity. The next image as a whole implies the bouncing circular
movement of Soledad s breasts, as she comes down the mountain. Lorca uses synesthesia, employing
the word redondas (8) to describe canciones (8) rather than Soledad s breasts. The word giran also
relates back to Soledad s pain, as if her breasts are crying out as they move around. The tone then
changes in the next stanza. An unknown voice (typical of the romance ) speaks to Soledad and says:
Soledad, Por quien preguntas sin compaña y a estas horas? (9/10) This voice is a voice of compassion.
However what is said reveals a lot about the speaker. The fact that the speaker refers to her as Soledad
implies that there is a sort of familiarity between them, as does the word preguntas instead of the
polite version, pregunta . The speaker also chooses the word compaña rather than compañía a gypsy
like manor, implying that this character is from the same background as Soledad Montoya a typical
gypsy name. Soledad s response is very aggressive and is loaded with a sense of pride, as she is trying
to hide her shame at having waited for so long throughout the night. She says pregunte por quien
pregunte, Dime, ¿a ti que se te importa? (11/12) She also uses tu to address the speaker, reinforcing
the idea that they are linked somehow. The next words that Soledad speaks are arguably

Argumentative Essay On Jump Racing
The issue that has been discussed recently is horse jump racing, which is where the horses race across
the track jumping brush fences and sometimes ditches. This is an issue in sport because many horses
are having horrific falls and dying from participating in the event, which many people do not
understand. Some people think it is good for the community and some people disagree.
The argument for jump racing to continue is that many people think that horses that have died from
jump racing are purely freak accidents, that this could happen with any animal in any sport. The
people involved and that support the sport suggest that they know the risk, they make sure
organisations such as the RSPCA are involved to oversee the sport and that horses ... Show more

Statistics over many years have shown that jumps races are even more dangerous and harmful for
horses, with up to 20 times more fatalities than flat races (Horse Racing, 2017). Jump racing is also a
lot more demanding then flat races as they are longer, they also jump and run approximately the same
speed as flat races and the jockeys are required to be heavier. Many people have even bigger issues
with the training and well being of these horses. If normal race horses have bleeding in the lungs,
stuck in stalls for large periods of time, being over worked and given unnatural foods to improve their
performance, it must be the same or even worse for jump racing horses. Just recently at the Oakbank
Easter Races another horse was put down during the Somerled Hurdle race, almost the length of three
kilometers with hurdles throughout. At the last hurdle, the five year old gelding Wheeler Fortune
suffered a horrendous leg injury and was euthanized. This is the 17th horse to die just in SA alone

John Walker Case Summary
The second probe concerned allegations of coordination between the Walker campaign and several pro
Walker political action committees during his recall election in 2012. After exhaustive legal battles at
several levels of the state court system the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a sweeping decision, ruled
the Walker campaign had not violated any campaign finance laws. Importantly, a lower court had
previously determined that no laws were violated even if Walker s campaign and the groups had
worked together. Walker, along with fellow republican, chose to denounce the second John Doe probe

Regardless of Walker s decision making process, the Governor should ve been able to develop a
policy avenue that minimizes conflicts of interest while also achieve his desired goals. If Walker had a
legitimate and dutiful motive for carrying out the changes to the campaign finance, ethics, and John

from the policy changes. For example, the Governor could have postponed the rule changes until the

against future ethics violations. While it is impossible to address the ethical implications of the policy

The Heroic Code In Homer s The Iliad
The Heroic Code
Often, epic heroes can be characterized the same way. They are portrayed as superhuman beings,
possessing strength, physical beauty, and intelligence. These heroes aspired to live by a heroic code
that would ensure immortality by keeping their memory alive in the people. Homer s The Iliad shows
how the heroic code was ingrained in ancient Greek warriors. In many cases, the Greeks put this code
of honor above their own lives.
During a battle, Glaukos, a Trojan, and Diomedes, an Achaian, encounter one another in a space
between the two armies. By chance Diomedes asks who his enemy is. The two men then realize that
their fathers were friends. To keep the family friendship alive, the men share a handshake of ... Show

The warriors concern for each other shows the deep rooted value of life instilled in all Greeks.
Hektor, a Trojan prince, also leads his life by the heroic code that separates the epic hero from the
ordinary. Although his royal status distinguishes him from the regular citizen, his honorable deeds are
what make him a model Trojan. He possesses a lack of regard for his own life, but for good reason.
Hektor would rather live a short heroic life, and keep his name in good standing for his wife and son,
than be known as a coward. He knows that if he is killed, Andromache will be made a slave so he feels
as if he must leave her with a good name. Hektor wants Andromache to offer gifts to Athena in hopes
that she will protect him. This shows his belief in the supreme power of the gods and the course of
fate.
Paris is another Trojan prince that lives his life similar to Hektor s. However, Paris seems to take the
war lightly. On a visit, Hektor inspires Paris to join the ranks in the battles that are taking place
because of him. He knows that thousands are dying for his cause, and feels that the responsible thing
to do would be to participate. His sense of honor forces him to be a leader, so that his name is not
soiled. Paris then rushes to put on his armor and follow Hektor to the battle. In the end, Paris feels it is
his destiny to fight at his brother s side and lead

My First Time In My Life Essay
My first time in Miami
Life sometimes is really complicated. I had born April 16th, 1985 in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. I grew up

2009 was my first time in Miami and I got an inolvidable experience.
The first hours in Miami were desperate. People announced with applauses the plane landing to Miami
International Airport. I was really nervous, confused and sad. I was lost, I could not recognize
anything. People desperately got off the plane. I continued seated very close to my husband without
saying words because I had a bee buzz in my ears. My husband and I were unique persons in a large
plane, and to be honest, I was not sure about leaving the nave. I remembered when a woman with the
white blouse and navy pants came to us and with a sweet tone of voice said, Good afternoon, my name
is Shyla, I will guide you in this airport. Welcome to the United States. I stood up and walked next to
the girl, but for my surprise, I was inside the airport and I never saw the earth. After minutes walking

Relationship Between Society And The Individual
The relationship between the individual and society is not just something found throughout human
history, but also within the pages of a literature classic. From the first days of settlement in America,
to racial tensions and slavery, to the development of capitalism, there has always been a relationship
between the individual and society that is reflected in the written pieces of each time, revealing the
connection between oneself and the collective spanning across the centuries. The Scarlet Letter ,
written in a Puritan world, and Bartleby, The Scrivener , written in capitalist America, are two key
examples of literature that expose, detail and discuss the relationship between society and the
individual in American history.
Alexis de Tocqueville (1835), a French political thinker, stated that individualism is not mere
selfishness, but is a mature and calm feeling, which disposes each member of the community to sever
himself from the mass of his fellows and to draw apart with his family and friends, so that after he has
thus former a little circle of his own, he willingly leaves society at large to itself [...] individualism, at
first, only saps the virtues of public life; but in the long run it attacks and destroys all others and is at
length absorbed in downright selfishness . In this sense, the relationship between the individual and
community is seen as a negative one, with individualism being a selfish time bomb that explodes and
destroys the collectiveness needed to

The Model Of The Osi Network Model
Five Layer Approach Abstract The current OSI network model has been around for a long time and
with the current transition of network use we need a model that has the ability to adapt. The ideas
which bought OSI into existence still apply today and even though it is having to keep up with new
technologies it is still the basis to our network models which are in place today. 1. Introduction The
OSI data model originated in 1977 and this model contained the original seven layer protocol. The
model has since been modified to be used with the changing protocols of the network whilst keeping
the seven layers. The seven layer OSI model has been able to cope with the updates but there are
duplications of operations which creates a redundancy in the model. 2. Proposed System The OSI data
model allows different operations to be performed in one layer but with the changing technologies we
are able perform more tasks simultaneously. The OSI model doesn t fully utilise this technology, this
is why the proposed system performs all the same operations whilst having less layers. The system
which is being proposed is a five layer system which still contains an Application layer. The five layer
system also has a Transport Layer, Network Layer and a physical layer similar to the original OSI
system. 3. Application Layer The Application Layer has been linked with the Presentation and Session
layer from the OSI model. These layers share a Protocol Data Limit which allows them to now

Bartleby, The Hero in Herman Melville s short Story Bartleby the Scrivener In Herman Melville s
short story Bartleby the Scrivener, Bartleby is the hero. The reasons as to why Bartleby is considered
the hero of the story are that first, the character refuses to write in his job in the law office. He even
starves himself to death by refusing to eat, but in the end, the spirit of Bartleby still remains alive and
haunts the narrator. Throughout his life, the narrator remains haunted by the spiritual pride and

This aspect of Bartleby s heroism affects the story by developing a new theme to the story and
developing the character of the narrator who is part of the story as the boss to Bartleby. It develops the
theme of association between chronometrical time and the world of the spirits. It also changes the
character of the narrator because he develops a new attitude towards time, and the world of spirits,
which changes his normal way of belief. The narrator of the story becomes shocked when he discovers
that Bartleby, who only feeds on ginger nuts, has never left the office. This is actually the first time
that the narrator experiences the spiritual power that Bartleby possesses. The narrator is so much
business oriented that he only looks at the world in terms of profits. However, when he encounters this
aspect of the spirit of Bartleby, his attitude towards life changes. He begins appreciating the fact that
Bartleby deserves better treatment, not in the capitalist way. The narrator even sees what is a right, just
as an asset, but this perception is later changed by Bartleby s spirit: What earthly right have you to
stay here? Do you pay any rent? Do you pay my taxes? Or is this property yours? (Melville, 41). The
perception of the narrator, of everything including rights of Bartleby as assets prevents the narrator
from understanding the spiritual aspect of the pride in Bartleby. Although the narrator

d. Mediating.
Power point 11
If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship between the
two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class (SES) and
frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the relation between
SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent for younger women.
Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a relation between SES and

While researchers will never state that one variable caused another variable to occur, as there are so
many variables to consider in social science research.
However, we do use the term causal relationship or cause and effect relationship , where the cause has
to precede the effect and the relationship cannot be explained by any other factors that are being
considered.
Power point 13
Here s an overview of the different types of variables and their functions.

The Ronald Reagan Doctrine
Ronald Reagan Doctrine
Simon C. Martlock
Strayer University
Course: POL 300 / International Problems
Instructor:
05 February 2016
The purpose of the Reagan Doctrine was to sponsor anticommunist guerrillas who are trying to
overthrow pro Soviet regimes (Roskin, 2010). It was implemented in the mid 1980 s by President
Reagan within his 1985 State of the Union Address and lasted less than a decade around the end of the
Cold War in 1991. In this assignment, I will discuss the doctrine that President Reagan followed for
his doctrine and what situation that caused the need for the doctrine. What were the effects of this
diplomatic effort for the United States and countries it might have effected.
To begin we must understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to other countries President Reagan was helping fight the Soviets by providing the guerrillas
with an extensive amount of military assistance in their fight against the invading Soviets. In part due
to the financial, weapons and military training support from America the Afghan rebels were able to
eventually defeat the Soviet Union s military. Some critics are criticizing President Reagans doctrine
and claim that in no way did it help the situation in Afghanistan, many of them claim that it was an
epic failure. Others believe the doctrine was instrumental in helping bring an end to communism. One
specific advantage that has been credited to the doctrine was the lack of direct involvement of
American troops, which allowed the United States to confront Soviet allies without sustaining
casualties (Reagan Doctrine, 2014). In addition it has been argued that it was President Reagan s
pursuit of the Strategic Defense Initiative that bankrupted the Kremlin leadership, prompting a
liberalization of the Soviet political economy that brought down the entire

Allegory In The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
A Rant: Don t succumb to the Objective Chains of Allegory in C.S. Lewis Fantasy Literature Novel:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
As we, University of Virginia students, took refuge in Bruce Holsinger s Masterworks of Fantasy
Literature class back in August, Holsinger succinctly defined Fantasy Literature as, making reality
more real, . Fantasy Literature is famous for its talking animals, magical powers, utopian/dystopian
societies, and containing exceptionally imaginative plots. After reading and analyzing several
foundational fantasy novels, without a doubt, allegory is omnipresent. Furthermore, this literary aspect
can either hinder or liberalize reading. Reading is hindered by interpretation with a preconceived,
objective notion. In clearly associating a distinct understanding while reading, ultimately the novel s
freedom to draw conclusions is robbed. Furthermore, and unfortunately I must add, Fantasy Literature
is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Readers shackled by the limited allegory would have to discern the hypotheticals of why a Lion, a
symbolic animal of power and ferocity, is resurrected, whereas in the Christian story, Jesus is
symbolically a lamb, an animal of tenderness and innocence. This issue was posed during lecture, and
while some of the class justified Lewis symbolism with the Lion, the needs to justify represents that
this Christian allegory is in itself prickly. Meanwhile, for readers who are not shackled by allegorical
limitations, they are free to interpret the resurrection endlessly. Potential understandings ranging from
a moral interpretation of second chances come to the good to an interpreting Aslan s revival as being a
metaphor for what is meant to be will

The Starrry Night And Musee Des Beaux Arts By Anna Sexton
In my compare and contrast essay, I am going to be comparing two poems. The two poems that I will
be comparing are Musee des Beaux Arts by W.H. Auden and The Starry Night by Anna Sexton. I will
be comparing and contrasting their different plots and the meaning behind each of the poems.
The first poem, Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Auden is about a fictional being falling from the sky
and the people around not noticing it, but just going about their daily lives. The meaning behind it is
that something really bad can happen, but no one would notice it because they are too busy to see
what is happening or just to blind to notice it. The plot of the poem is that people cannot turn an eye to
someone else who is suffering or dying because they are too caught up in their lives or their own
drama to care about other people s feelings, or what is going on with them. Foreshadowing is to show
or indicate beforehand. This poem was indicating that the person falling into the ocean in the painting
about the poem was a Greek mythical character and the fall was foreshadowing the ending of his faith
or his life. Maybe he committed some kind of offense and he s being punished for it, and his
punishment was to fall from the sky. In Musee des Beaux, Auden states, How, when the aged are
reverently, passionately waiting, For the miraculous birth, there always must be (Auden), meaning that
they were consciously and unconsciously waiting for his doomed faith, which was falling from the sky

Analysis Of Petruchio In Taming Of The Shrew
During the play Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare, Petruchio is a very intriguing character. One of
the more notable things he does in the play is tame Katerina. However while the play is called taming
of the shrew, I believe his intentions are to have a loving relationship with his spouse. However I don t
believe that was the case the whole time! Petruchio originally did not have feelings for Kate because
he claims during the beginning of the play that he travelled to Pertua to marry a woman with a rich
father. Whilst attempting to tame her he claims he is enjoying doing so, I believe that he is enjoying
because he is getting to spend time with her, while falling in love with her and not even realizing it.
After Petruchio has starved her and deprived her of sleep as well as other things, he makes a real
attempt to be nice to Katherine and I believe that s what really tamed her. Overall I believe Petruchio s
original intentions were to use Katherine and marry her for her wealth. But over time he began to fall
deeply in love with her. We see this by Petruchio putting a great amount of effort into his attempt at
taming Katherine. We see this during his thoughts and speech about marriage and happiness. And
lastly, we see this through his flirty and affectionate gesture towards Kate. Through these things I
believe that Petruchio as well as the audience learn a valuable lesson about love, you cannot force it.
Throughout the play, Petruchio seemed to put a lot of effort into

Why Did The Big Bang Theory Exist
There are many possible conclusions that scientists may come to when looking at the universe s
beginning. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories
which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the origin
of the universe, the big bang theory is the most logical about how the universe began due to how the
universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. The big bang theory is
the leading explanation about how the universe began. This phenomenon shows that the universe
started in a small singularity which grew to what we know today. A singularity is a zone of finite
matter shoved into an area of infinite density. Scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Big Bang model of origins, it is thought to be that the universe was full of extremely
concentrated and unstable energy. In fact, it is assumed that the matter was so compact that one
teaspoon of space weighed 100 million trillion trillion trillion pounds, which defies the laws of
physics. Three minutes after the big bang, all the hydrogen atoms were created, and after some more
time, all helium atoms were created. If the conditions stayed at such a high temperature, the elements
we see today would be different and the conditions for life would not be met. The Big Bang provides
the most evidence for how we have such an abundance of these

Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal painless disease that slowly breakdown the motor neurons in the

Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a non curable disease that is formed by constant recurring head

CTE because they are not educating the athletes about the diseases and they are not demanding a
change on the safety rules. With contact sports comes with constant blows to the head that create

Civil Rights Violations
While liberty and justice for all is embraced by our nation, as well as nations around the world, we
still live in a society subjected to the violation of our civil and human rights. Moreover, such
violations are allowed in our nation when individuals turn a blind eye to the situation, out of fear or
ignorance. This phenomenon occurs around the world, based on systems of oppression against
individuals and groups due issues, such as differing political affiliations, religions, or cultures.
Moreover, human right violations are occurring all around the world. In Syria, the civil war occurring
since 2011 has killed tens of thousands, pushed some into poverty and internal displacement.

  • 2. The Segregation And Subjugation Of African Americans Political inequality has been an obstacle that many minority groups have encountered throughout history. The segregation and subjugation of African Americans in the United States during the 1900s was indifferent. Although innumerable people were opposed to the unfamiliar ideals of anti segregation activists, George Edwin Taylor went against the standards of society, and explored new civil morals. Through his endeavors, he was able to encourage people to divert from their accepted beliefs and helped establish a foundation for the yet to come Civil Rights Movement. In the year 1857, George Edwin Taylor was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to a free black, Amanda Hines, and slave, Bryant Taylor. At the time of his birth, Arkansas was preparing for the forced removal of approximately 700 free blacks. On February 12, 1859 the Free Negro Expulsion Act was enacted in the state of Arkansas. All free blacks were ordered to leave the state by January 1, 1860, or they would consequently be sold into slavery. Amanda Hines fled the state with her child to Alton, Illinois. In 1861 or 1862 Hines died from tuberculosis when George was only four or five years old during the climax of the Civil War. George later claimed that when he was an orphan whom had lived in dry good boxes in Alton. In 1865 at the age of seven, George boarded the Hawkeye State, a side paddle wheeler, and disembarked at La Crosse, Wisconsin, on May 8, 1865. In 1865, La Crosse had a small but active black ... As of now, the temperature in the Arctic have risen two to three times than the global average of 57.2 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius). According to climate researchers from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), stated that from the planets history, summertime sea ice was to be found in the central Arctic in periods characterized by higher global temperatures but less CO2 than today. • 4. Hart s Account Of The Relationship Between Law And Morality Outline and critically evaluate Hart s account of the relationship between law and morality. Introduction: Natural law theorists believe that all law must be morally justified if it can be legitimised as law at all. Legal positivism means the simple contention that it is in no sense a necessary truth that laws reproduce or satisfy certain demands of morality, though in fact they have otherwise done so. (Hart, DATE) In Hart s eyes, though there may be a congruence between law and morality, it is by no means a necessary connection. (Hart, DATE) Hart promotes the need for a clear distinction between law and morality on two levels. Firstly the Social and hermeneutic level in regards to both law and morality sharing vocabulary in both structure and function showing that in many societies legal rules will match their moral rules. Second a logic and hypothetical level Hart believes in the possibility of a legal system existing without the influence of morality as there are cases were legal systems do not match the moral grounds of society.( see Austins command theory and the idea of one sovereign ruling all) (SOURCE) Hart s idea is this: All one/society needs is a legal system based on the four rules. This paper will demonstrate how Hart s account of the relationship between law and morality shows an understanding of how they both work together yet can also work as separate entities. It will take a specific look into the internal point of view to aid the understanding of why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Case Study Of Air India Objective The objective of this case study is to understand the problems plaguing the Indian aviation sector behemoth Air India. To analyze its organizational restructuring upon merger with Indian Airlines; the effect it had on the physical and human capital of the company, and, how the management dealt with the conflicts which arose from the deal. Methodology Findings Observations Company Overview Air India, the 3rd largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried is owned by Air India Limited, a government of India enterprise and operates a fleet of Airbus Boeing aircraft. It is the first to provide commercial airline services that became a public listed company after World War II. Founded by J.R.D. In July 1946, Tata Airlines was nationalized and was taken over by the Indian Government. It was turned into a public enterprise and renamed as AIL. The origin of IAL dates back to 1953 when seven domestic airlines were merged to form Indian Airlines Corporation (IAC). IAL enjoyed a monopoly as the domestic air carrier till the Indian economy was liberalized in 1991. With the entry of private airlines, IAL s monopoly began to decline. With both these flagship air carriers (AIL IAL) performing poorly, the idea of a merger between the two began to gain ground. Praful Patel submitted the merger plan to the Union Cabinet in March 2006 for approval. The Government of India ordered Accenture Inc. to formulate a road map for the proposed merger. According to Accenture, net synergy benefits of Rs 8.2 billion (against the integration cost of Rs 2 billion) was envisaged, potential recurring synergies were expected to enhance profitability by Rs 6 billion at the end of the 3rd year of ... Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two Tabloid Newspapers I will be focusing on the representation of celebrities in two newspapers, the Daily Mail and the Daily Star. I chose these newspapers as one is a redtop and one a blacktop. The Daily Mail is a blacktop, these are generally aimed at the higher classes as they contain more challenging language, and are for perhaps more intellectual people. From this newspaper I chose £2m bland bombshell (3rd January 2004), an article on the recent successes of TV star Linda Barker. The Daily Star is a redtop, therefore aimed at the lower classes. It uses more simple, colloquial language, as this is generally the language that is best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am going to explore whose interests seem to be served in the articles I chose. £2m bland bombshell tells of how Barker has gone from little known interior designer to one of the most recognised faces on TV , even though she seemed destined to be C List . On this article, practically the entire page is taken up by images of Barker compared to relatively little writing. The pictures show all of her recent projects through which she has gained large sums of money. There are 10 images in total, each showing how much money she received from them, these could be shown to emphasise just how many features Barker has appeared in and how much she has gained from them. The article also grabs the readers attention, as there are so many pictures. This could also put more of an emphasis on her looks, she is quite good looking and this may attract more readers. The article on Barker is largely covered with images of her various projects. There are no shots in which she comes across badly and she is posing in all of them. There are no pictures of her outside her advertisements in her normal everyday life. This could suggest that advertising is her life, and she does nothing but try and make more money. The pictures, which take up around 5/6 of the page, emphasise just how many programmes she has been involved with. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, I would make college not so high priced, meaning not such a high price for books and admission. Second, I would try to get private schools to not pay so much, and since most private or charter schools manufacture their own clothes, I would also try to get them to not make the guardian pay so much for them. The very next thing I would do is I would set up multiple stations in every state for kids and adults to come to and get food and or shelter. • 10. King Arthur Themes The film King Arthur differs in a great propensity with the traditional Arthurian tale. The elements which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not been included. The Holy Grail, a vital motif that is persistent in the traditional tale of King Arthur is dropped from the cinematic representation of the tale. The film differs from the tale on multitudinous accounts, for instance there is an absence of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere in the movie. Moreover, the film chooses to not include Camelot, Avalon and Mordred. Important characters like Mordred, the archetypical villain in the traditional tale of King Arthur is not ascribed to any significance in the film. The character of Guinevere is indispensable in the Arthurian legend as well as in the movie. However, the very characteristic of Guinevere is represented in a dynamically polar opposite fashion in both the traditional tale of King Arthur and the movie. Contrary to the ancient tale, Guinevere is no damsel in distress in the movie. The representation of Guinevere in the movie as a warrior queen who partakes in the war along with King Arthur is emblematic as it does not depict the character of a woman in the light of the gender typicality. It is an important alteration that the movie chooses to make from the traditional tale. There is no place accorded to the whimsical characters, situations or the places that over popularizes the idea of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In world literature today, characters struggle with who they are supposed to be and who they want to be. Sociology is the study of, the behaviour of people within society. It helps us to understand how society works and how the impact of relationships and interactions between people influence society. Sociology is shown through relationships, cultures, class, religion, education and upbringing. Sociology has different sociological perspectives for example symbolic interactionism and functionalism. Symbolic interactionism studies individuals and small groups within society and how they behave, interact and believe about how society is what it is. Symbolic Interactionism was created by Herbert Blumer. He based symbolic interactionism on three things which were that people act on the meanings of things, social interactions build meanings and meanings depend and are modified by people interacting with each other. Through communication and language, symbols are provided to understand the world that we live in. Smoking is an example of symbolic interactionism as teenagers believe it is cool to smoke, even though it Is bad for you and could lead to killing you but they think it makes them look good in front of their friends. Functionalism is the belief of everyone in society sharing the same norms and values that get passed on through generations. Functionalists see society like a human body they believe that if one thing stops working then everything else will slowing stop working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparision of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies Essay Comparison of Genesis with Other Creation Mythologies We all know that our mothers and fathers gave us birth, and grandmothers and grandfathers gave our parents birth. However, what about the beginning? What does the beginning look like? Who created the sky, the earth, the mountains and rivers, the plants, the animals, and the human beings? How was the world created? What happened to the creator? These questions have puzzled and are asked by every people. However, no one has yet found the answers, and I have heard people saying that the creation of life is as impossible as the natural creation of an airplane from a stack of waste. The only difference is that in this Indian story, not even God (or an equivalent form) was there. Egyptians and Chinese imagined the same scene, the Nun and the chaotic egg with a giant (Egyptian, Lin 1). In contrast with the creation out of nothing, the indigenous Australian mythology tells us that the stars, the sky, the sun, the moon, and the ancestors of all lives were already present in the beginning, but they are sleeping under the crust of the earth in the water holes (Aborigine). Seneca people believed that humans were living in the heaven originally, and there were only ocean and ocean living lives on the earth (Creation). It is very interesting to recognize how important water is to lives. Every account of creation that I have read included water before anything else was present. Whatever was present in the beginning had managed to create all the rest, and the description of creators are of three categories, a single creator, multi creators, and no creator. In Genesis, God is the single creator, and so is Brahman of India. The difference is that the God is immortal, but Brahman is mortal (Genesis, Genesis Project). In Chinese mythology, Pan Gu was the creator of everything but men, who were created by Nu Wa, a goddess (Lin 1 5). Other examples of multi creators are in the mythology of Egypt and Seneca in which the children of the creator became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both have represented the quintessential tragic heroes of two literary periods. Both lovers, Troilus and Hamlet lose what they love despite their earth shaking groans. Both are surrounded by traitors and are traitorous in kind. Both are embattled and this is no secret both die. But somewhere on that mortal coil on which they are both strung, they confront a similar question, a question which divides them in no sense less than the waters divide England and Denmark the question of action. Now, Hamlet comprehends the arbitrary nature of power that would send an army against a minuscule plot of ground. He understands good and evil and the machiavellian wheels that grease the way to the throne as they are, a process in which he is complicit. Hamlet, a once simple prince, is sick at heart. An inextricable belief in fate centers this bitter epistemological com ëment. In Hamlet s world, birth alone is a telling reason and excuse for tainted character (1.4.24 26, 1.5.91). But heaven takes part as well; there s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow (5.2.230 231). Taken together, this realization of inequity and the apparently long understood mechanism of biological predestination, are staggering to Horatio s sweet prince. If such biological predestination is true, then how should Hamlet understand the base actions of his family members and of himself? Either his family are impostors to nobility or this idea of predestination is faulty. The play gives ample evidence of a prince who has long dallied in philosophy and seldom lived in the world. Indeed, the transparent nonsense that a person may not exceed his birth is indicative of this. Like Joyce s Stephen Dedalus, Hamlet glamorizes death through his sable clothes. Claudius?and Gertrude s advice is honest, sincere, and worldly: death is the most commonplace of occurrences: accept it and nmove on. When the murder is revealed, progression ... Relationship Between Society And The Individual The relationship between the individual and society is not just something found throughout human history, but also within the pages of a literature classic. From the first days of settlement in America, to racial tensions and slavery, to the development of capitalism, there has always been a relationship between the individual and society that is reflected in the written pieces of each time, revealing the connection between oneself and the collective spanning across the centuries. The Scarlet Letter , written in a Puritan world, and Bartleby, The Scrivener , written in capitalist America, are two key examples of literature that expose, detail and discuss the relationship between society and the individual in American history. Alexis de Tocqueville (1835), a French political thinker, stated that individualism is not mere selfishness, but is a mature and calm feeling, which disposes each member of the community to sever himself from the mass of his fellows and to draw apart with his family and friends, so that after he has thus former a little circle of his own, he willingly leaves society at large to itself [...] individualism, at first, only saps the virtues of public life; but in the long run it attacks and destroys all others and is at length absorbed in downright selfishness . The Model Of The Osi Network Model Five Layer Approach Abstract The current OSI network model has been around for a long time and with the current transition of network use we need a model that has the ability to adapt. The ideas which bought OSI into existence still apply today and even though it is having to keep up with new technologies it is still the basis to our network models which are in place today. 1. Introduction The OSI data model originated in 1977 and this model contained the original seven layer protocol. The model has since been modified to be used with the changing protocols of the network whilst keeping the seven layers. The seven layer OSI model has been able to cope with the updates but there are duplications of operations which creates a redundancy in the model. 2. Proposed System The OSI data model allows different operations to be performed in one layer but with the changing technologies we are able perform more tasks simultaneously. The OSI model doesn t fully utilise this technology, this is why the proposed system performs all the same operations whilst having less layers. The system which is being proposed is a five layer system which still contains an Application layer. The five layer system also has a Transport Layer, Network Layer and a physical layer similar to the original OSI system. 3. Throughout his life, the narrator remains haunted by the spiritual pride and continues to struggle with the principles of morality and justice. Bartleby is also a hero because he not only shows his courage towards confronting the society using his will power, but he also shapes the conscience of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This aspect of Bartleby s heroism affects the story by developing a new theme to the story and developing the character of the narrator who is part of the story as the boss to Bartleby. It develops the theme of association between chronometrical time and the world of the spirits. It also changes the character of the narrator because he develops a new attitude towards time, and the world of spirits, which changes his normal way of belief. The narrator of the story becomes shocked when he discovers that Bartleby, who only feeds on ginger nuts, has never left the office. This is actually the first time that the narrator experiences the spiritual power that Bartleby possesses. The narrator is so much business oriented that he only looks at the world in terms of profits. However, when he encounters this aspect of the spirit of Bartleby, his attitude towards life changes. He begins appreciating the fact that Bartleby deserves better treatment, not in the capitalist way. The narrator even sees what is a right, just as an asset, but this perception is later changed by Bartleby s spirit: What earthly right have you to stay here? Do you pay any rent? Do you pay my taxes? Or is this property yours? (Melville, 41). The perception of the narrator, of everything including rights of Bartleby as assets prevents the narrator from understanding the spiritual aspect of the pride in Bartleby. Although the narrator ... Power point 11 If you are having trouble understanding this variable, you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Hopefully, my explanation will help you! A mediating variable explains the relationship between the two other variables. As an example, let s consider the relation between social class (SES) and frequency of breast self exams (BSE). Age might be a moderator variable, in that the relation between SES and BSE could be stronger for older women and less strong or nonexistent for younger women. Education might be a mediator variable in that it explains why there is a relation between SES and BSE. When you remove the effect of education, the relation between SES and BSE disappears. Power point 12 While researchers will never state that one variable caused another variable to occur, as there are so many variables to consider in social science research. However, we do use the term causal relationship or cause and effect relationship , where the cause has to precede the effect and the relationship cannot be explained by any other factors that are being considered. Martlock Strayer University Course: POL 300 / International Problems Instructor: 05 February 2016 The purpose of the Reagan Doctrine was to sponsor anticommunist guerrillas who are trying to overthrow pro Soviet regimes (Roskin, 2010). It was implemented in the mid 1980 s by President Reagan within his 1985 State of the Union Address and lasted less than a decade around the end of the Cold War in 1991. In this assignment, I will discuss the doctrine that President Reagan followed for his doctrine and what situation that caused the need for the doctrine. Similar to other countries President Reagan was helping fight the Soviets by providing the guerrillas with an extensive amount of military assistance in their fight against the invading Soviets. In part due to the financial, weapons and military training support from America the Afghan rebels were able to eventually defeat the Soviet Union s military. Some critics are criticizing President Reagans doctrine and claim that in no way did it help the situation in Afghanistan, many of them claim that it was an epic failure. Others believe the doctrine was instrumental in helping bring an end to communism. One specific advantage that has been credited to the doctrine was the lack of direct involvement of American troops, which allowed the United States to confront Soviet allies without sustaining casualties (Reagan Doctrine, 2014). In addition it has been argued that it was President Reagan s pursuit of the Strategic Defense Initiative that bankrupted the Kremlin leadership, prompting a liberalization of the Soviet political economy that brought down the entire ... Lewis Fantasy Literature Novel: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe As we, University of Virginia students, took refuge in Bruce Holsinger s Masterworks of Fantasy Literature class back in August, Holsinger succinctly defined Fantasy Literature as, making reality more real, . Fantasy Literature is famous for its talking animals, magical powers, utopian/dystopian societies, and containing exceptionally imaginative plots. After reading and analyzing several foundational fantasy novels, without a doubt, allegory is omnipresent. Furthermore, this literary aspect can either hinder or liberalize reading. Reading is hindered by interpretation with a preconceived, objective notion. In clearly associating a distinct understanding while reading, ultimately the novel s freedom to draw conclusions is robbed. Furthermore, and unfortunately I must add, Fantasy Literature is often ... Readers shackled by the limited allegory would have to discern the hypotheticals of why a Lion, a symbolic animal of power and ferocity, is resurrected, whereas in the Christian story, Jesus is symbolically a lamb, an animal of tenderness and innocence. This issue was posed during lecture, and while some of the class justified Lewis symbolism with the Lion, the needs to justify represents that this Christian allegory is in itself prickly. Meanwhile, for readers who are not shackled by allegorical limitations, they are free to interpret the resurrection endlessly. Potential understandings ranging from a moral interpretation of second chances come to the good to an interpreting Aslan s revival as being a metaphor for what is meant to be will ... • 43. The Starrry Night And Musee Des Beaux Arts By Anna Sexton In my compare and contrast essay, I am going to be comparing two poems. The two poems that I will be comparing are Musee des Beaux Arts by W.H. Auden and The Starry Night by Anna Sexton. I will be comparing and contrasting their different plots and the meaning behind each of the poems. The first poem, Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Auden is about a fictional being falling from the sky and the people around not noticing it, but just going about their daily lives. The meaning behind it is that something really bad can happen, but no one would notice it because they are too busy to see what is happening or just to blind to notice it. The plot of the poem is that people cannot turn an eye to someone else who is suffering or dying because they are too caught up in their lives or their own drama to care about other people s feelings, or what is going on with them. Foreshadowing is to show or indicate beforehand. This poem was indicating that the person falling into the ocean in the painting about the poem was a Greek mythical character and the fall was foreshadowing the ending of his faith or his life. Maybe he committed some kind of offense and he s being punished for it, and his punishment was to fall from the sky. In Musee des Beaux, Auden states, How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting, For the miraculous birth, there always must be (Auden), meaning that they were consciously and unconsciously waiting for his doomed faith, which was falling from the sky and ... • 44. Analysis Of Petruchio In Taming Of The Shrew During the play Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare, Petruchio is a very intriguing character. One of the more notable things he does in the play is tame Katerina. However while the play is called taming of the shrew, I believe his intentions are to have a loving relationship with his spouse. However I don t believe that was the case the whole time! Petruchio originally did not have feelings for Kate because he claims during the beginning of the play that he travelled to Pertua to marry a woman with a rich father. Whilst attempting to tame her he claims he is enjoying doing so, I believe that he is enjoying because he is getting to spend time with her, while falling in love with her and not even realizing it. After Petruchio has starved her and deprived her of sleep as well as other things, he makes a real attempt to be nice to Katherine and I believe that s what really tamed her. Overall I believe Petruchio s original intentions were to use Katherine and marry her for her wealth. But over time he began to fall deeply in love with her. We see this by Petruchio putting a great amount of effort into his attempt at taming Katherine. We see this during his thoughts and speech about marriage and happiness. And lastly, we see this through his flirty and affectionate gesture towards Kate. Through these things I believe that Petruchio as well as the audience learn a valuable lesson about love, you cannot force it. Throughout the play, Petruchio seemed to put a lot of effort into ... • 45. Why Did The Big Bang Theory Exist There are many possible conclusions that scientists may come to when looking at the universe s beginning. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the origin of the universe, the big bang theory is the most logical about how the universe began due to how the universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. The big bang theory is the leading explanation about how the universe began. This phenomenon shows that the universe started in a small singularity which grew to what we know today. A singularity is a zone of finite matter shoved into an area of infinite density. Scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three minutes after the big bang, all the hydrogen atoms were created, and after some more time, all helium atoms were created. If the conditions stayed at such a high temperature, the elements we see today would be different and the conditions for life would not be met.
