Shutter Island Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Shutter Island" presents a multifaceted challenge. Firstly, the
film itself is a complex psychological thriller, layered with symbolism, ambiguity, and thematic
depth. Delving into its intricacies requires a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive
understanding of the narrative techniques employed by director Martin Scorsese.
Moreover, dissecting the themes of mental illness, perception vs. reality, and the nature of
identity necessitates a nuanced approach to analysis. One must navigate through the labyrinth of
the protagonist's mind, deciphering clues, and unraveling the mysteries embedded within the
storyline.
Additionally, exploring the film's cinematic elements, such as its cinematography, sound design,
and editing, demands a thorough examination of visual and auditory cues that contribute to its
atmospheric tension and suspense.
Furthermore, conducting research to contextualize the film within the broader spectrum of
psychological thrillers and examining critical interpretations adds another layer of complexity to
the writing process.
In essence, crafting an essay on "Shutter Island" requires not only a deep understanding of the
film itself but also a capacity for critical thinking, analysis, and interpretation. It entails
navigating through psychological complexities, cinematic techniques, and thematic nuances to
construct a coherent and insightful piece of writing.

Women s World Cup Final
With 26.7 million people tuning in to watch the 2015 Women s World Cup Final, it
became the most watched soccer match in United States history (Hinong). In fact,
more Americans watched this game than the NBA Finals or the Stanley Cup
(Hinong). In the WNBA, television ratings and attendance numbers were up
(Berkman), and first game of the NWHL s inaugural season brought a crowd that
filled the venue to capacity, followed by a later game in a larger building where
1,231 fans came to see Boston beat the Buffalo Beauts in a 4 1 victory, a turnout that
exceeded the attendance to all but two NCAA Division I game last season (Borzi).

On the other hand, Dionte Christmas, who was employed by the NBA s Phoenix Suns
around the same time that Taurasi emerged as a rising star in the women s game,
played a total of 198 minutes (Berri). For his short time as a player for the Phoenix
Suns, Christmas was paid the NBA league minimum of $490,180 (Berri). In this
case, Taurasi was not paid 21% less than Christmas, but rather 21% of his salary. And
this wage gap would only multiply if Taurasi s salary were to be compared with that
of a star player in the NBA rather than one whose primary position is on the bench.
In the NWSL, a plethora of athletes are retiring, but it isn t because they can t keep
up with the high level of play in the league. Many of these retiring players are in
their twenties, and at their athletic peak or nearing it, but they are forced to retire
because they can t support themselves, let alone their families, with the unreasonably
low wages they are being payed. The minimum salary of the NWSL is $6,842, and
considering how many hours these athletes put into ensuring that they are at the top
of their game, their salary averages out at about minimum wage (Kassouf). This is
just over 10% of the MLS s $60,000 minimum salary (Kassouf). Kate Deines, former
midfielder for the Seattle Reign retired from the NWSL last year at the age of 25
because of financial issues. After she announced her retirement, Deines was quoted
saying, It s actually pathetic when I think about what we make,

Persuasive Essay On Unisex Toilets
Unisex toilets An idea to be flushed? Have you ever been bullied because of who

world is evolving there is more conflicts and debates. One of these are whether
transgenders should be allowed to use the bathroom of the genderthey identify by.
Many people who are transgenderface violence and discrimination just for being
who they are. A study shows 62% of Trans people report being discriminated
against because if their gender. It is argued that Gender neutral bathrooms will
become a playground for rapists.Unbelievably our world doesn t realise that
bathrooms are already playgrounds for rapists. On May 25th 1997, Jeremy
Strothmeyer raped and murdered 7 year old Sherrice Iverson after he followed her
into a women s bathroom, a place Sherrice probably thought she was safe. News
flash: rapists are malicious people and they don t have any intention to stop these
horrific crimes just because the bathroom doesn t identify by their gender. Rape will
continue to occur in bathrooms whether or not they are gender neutral. The fear of
rape should not be used as an argument against gender neutral bathrooms, speaking
frankly it is irrelevant. Having gender neutral bathrooms may even provide more
protection for those in danger or scared of getting raped due to a higher likelihood of
people being in the bathroom. Is it worth the money it s costing? Installing gender

The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15, 2013. Three people died
during the bombing. Several were injured two hundred sixty more. (boston.com) The
suspects were students at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Each suspect
was arrested for the connection with the Bombing on May 1, 2013. There were
several witnesses during their case. The charges were severe. Dzhokhar was ordered
to pay restitution to the victims. There were a lot of law enforcement personnel
involved in the case. Investigative techniques were used to link the suspects to the
Bombing. Investigators had evidence to prove who set off the bombsduring the
marathon. Surveillance cameras showed two of the suspects. Dzhokhar was
carrying a bag and a phone. The bombs were set off seconds away from each other.
Two of the suspects were found by the police because they hijacked a car while
using a gun and when the suspect escaped he went into a gas station and contacted
the police and that s when they received all the information they needed to get the
suspects into custody. There were charges brought against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev,
Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the person that
planned the bombing. He and his friends faced thirty counts of charges alleging that
he and his brother set off bombs killing two women and an eight year old boy.
Dzhokhar s friends were charged with conspiracy, heroin trafficking, and obstruction

* Leapfrog strategy This strategy involves bypassing the enemy s forces altogether.
In the business arena, this involves either developing new technologies, or creating
new business models. This is a revolutionary strategy that re writes the rules of the
game. The introduction of compact disc technology bypassed the established
magnetic tape based defenders. The attackers won the war without a single costly
battle. This strategy is very effective when it can be realized.
Defensive marketing warfare strategies They are a type of marketing warfare
strategy designed to protect a company s market share, profitability, product
positioning, or mind share. Fundamental principles: 1. Always counter an attack with
equal or greater force. 2. Defend every important market. 3. Be forever vigilant in
scanning for potential attackers. Assess the strength of the competitor. 4. The best
defense is to attack yourself. Attack your weak spots and rebuild yourself anew. 5.
Defensive strategies should be the exclusive domain of the market leader
The main types of defensive marketing warfare strategies are: * Position defense
This involves the defense of a fortified position. This tends to be a weak defense
because you become a sitting duck . It can lead to a siege situation in which time is
on the side of the attacker, that is, as time goes by the defender gets weaker, while
the attacker gets stronger. In a business context, this involves
The Provision Of Communications Equipment And System
On...
All communication systems have an appropriate level of priority, availability and
safety integrity. These facilities should be resistant to access by unauthorized persons.
The provision of communications equipment and system on heritage and minor
system should be considered with care and supported with fully documented risk
analysis as required. It is recommended that system should be installed, maintained
and operated to preserve their inherent levels of security which was originally
specified, often asa result of serious mishaps to prevent the future mistakes which
could lead to an infortune outcome. CONCENTRATOR SYSTEM
If a telephone concentrator is provided or available it should provide at least the
following minimum requirements.
1)Only one call at a time can be established between the operator s hand and a remote
party at any time one time.
2)No interruption or any noise by a third party should be possible under normal
working condition.
3)The level of over hearing could be abundantly low as to wipe out the possibility of
confusion with other calls.
4)All systems should provide a facility which enables the operator to call the remote
telephone.
In telecommunication, the term concentrator has the following meanings:
1.In data communication, a functional unit that allows a common path to handle may
data sources than there are channels currently available within the path. A
concentrator usually gives communication capability between many low speeds,

The Success Of The Club
In 2005, a shocking news hit the city of Manchester, home of the EPL s most
successful club with a history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United.
Their beloved club was to be acquired by an American business tycoon, Malcolm
Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the fact that most of the capital used
by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load ВЈ525million of debt
on to the club itself. This was problematic because it meant that money otherwise
could be used to acquire top talents, improve training facilities, or towards the club s
CSR activities would be used to pay back Glazer s debt. The leveraged buyout of the
club was directly against the interests of the fans who are the most important
stakeholder.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since Glazer loaded the club with ВЈ525million debt, over ВЈ680million has
gone towards servicing the debt, including interest fees, bank charges, and debt
repayment as of May 2014. On the other hand, the club s spending on acquisition of
players during the same period was ВЈ382.9million while its rivals Manchester City
has spent ВЈ693.7million, Chelsea ВЈ600.2million, Tottenham ВЈ448.2million, and
Liverpool have splashed out a total of ВЈ443.75million. In other words, Man Utd
spent more on servicing Glazer s debt than it did on strengthening its squad. Although
Man Utd won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League
under Glazer s ownership, underinvestment eventually led to aging squad and failure
to find suitable replacements. As a result, in 2013/2014 season, Man Utd finished the
season in 7th place, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time
since 1990/1991 season while its neighbor, Manchester City, won the title. While Man
Utd was suffering from severely deteriorated financial situation, Man City, under the
ownership of an Arabian prince, Sheikh Mansour, invested heavily not only to
acquiring top players, but also to building a new stadium, training facilities, and even
to the community by subway construction and new homes. Despite the fact that Man
Utd spent ВЈ152.3million in the transfer market this season, the investment does not
seem to be paying off yet as the team ranks fourth in the league as of
Rhetorical Devices In The Convergence Of The Twain By...
The construction of the Titanic started on March 31, 1909 and finished on May 31,
1911. During the process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as
possible, accessorizing it with many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase
and its promenade deck. Many people at the time believed that the Titanic would
never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after it has set sail. Unfortunately,
the unsinkable ship collided with an icebergon April 14, 1912, claiming the lives of
1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving behind
its legacy. Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the
Titanic. Unlike the many similar reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had,
Hardy approaches the event differently. In the poem, The Convergence of the Twain,
Thomas Hardy uses a variety of rhetorical devices to express his disdain for the
vanity of humans during the first half of the poem and to explain that fate s work
resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the poem.
Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition,
and alliteration to emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless
and it has led to the downfall of the Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the
vanity of those that built the ship. He describes the people as the Pride of Life. The
description alludes to the book of John in the Christian Bible.
The Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence
The search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is a collective term for the
scientific search for intelligent extraterrestrial life. After Copernicus, Darwin, and
Einstein, another incredible revolution in thinking about our place in the universe is
taking place, there have been many earlier searches for extraterrestrial intelligence
within the Solar System, in accordance with the information obtained in the sources
cited in the Reference section.

Therefore, in 1992, the U.S. government funded an operational SETI program, in the

without government funding and in 1995 the nonprofit SETI Institute of Mountain

California, resurrected the MOP program under the name of Project Phoenix ,
backed by private sources of funding. Project Phoenix, under the direction of Jill

BTK Killer Criminological Concepts
The purpose of this essay project, is to summarize a serial killer, and identify three
criminological concepts from the course, that I believe led the person to engage in
criminal activity. The serial killer that I have selected for this essay project is ,
Dennis Rader, better known as the BTK Killer . The concepts that can be related to
why Rader committed this crimes are Hedonistic serial Killer, and Motivated by
terror.
Dennis Rader, or the BTK Killer , first committed his murder in 1974 when he killed
the Otero family in their home. He strangled all four of them , and when he was
done he took several souvenirs and even left semen on the scene, because he derived
sexual pleasure from the killing. Later , Rader, committed another crime,
How Far Is Pornography Regulated
To paraphrase Nair, pornography is regulated by the Obscene Publications Act 1959.
Officially pornography is not legal in the UK. However due to societal values
changing over time since this act was written some content that would have been
deemed obscene half a century ago could be more accepted nowadays. ? The internet
became public in 1991, this caused more of a cultural change making the Obscene
Publication Act even more outdated. Alternatively, the act can still play a part in
court in modern day cases, to find obscenity. For example, in 2012 there was a court
appeal decision stating It was argued on behalf of Gavin Smith that internet relay chat
falls far beyond what the Obscene Publications Act 1959 ever had in mind . Even

Book Of Levius Research Paper
The book of Leviticus has always seemed to be a disconnected, confusing, and
thank God we do not have to book in the Bible for me. Whether the command was
what to wear, forbidden foods to eat, how to harvest the land or what sacrifice to
make and when, the text had left me disinterested. However, this week I found
myself captivated by the text and class readings. First of all, the big picture of the
book of Leviticus was brought to light. Specifically, in order for a Holy Godto dwell
with his people, they would have to become holy and he alone is the one who
makes them holy. In fact, the closer they came to God the more holy they would
need to be. Desmond Alexander said it this way, For the Israelites to enjoy a close
and meaningful relationship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can even be pictured through the arrangement of the Tabernacle. The further
in, the more holy it becomes. So much so, that only the High Priest may enter the
Holy of Holies. Secondly, many others and I have approached Leviticus from a
logical and modern perspective, which creates confusion. However, Mary Douglas
points out the overwhelming analogical emphasis of the entire book. She says, only
when we take, the whole system of analogies in which it nests will [we] show how it
is to be read (Douglas 20). In other words, every aspect of the book is connected
intricately together to underscore the holiness of God. Furthermore, Douglas points
out that, Bible students have to choose between accepting the muddle made by
imposing a Western linear reading upon an archaic text, or trying to read the book
through its own literary conventions (Douglas 51). This opens up a clearer new
view of Leviticus where the entire sacrificial system is connected to the entire
story of the Bible. So why is Leviticus important for us today? Alexander says, The
concept of holiness lies at the heart of the Pentateuch (Alexander 246). I would
even go a step further and state that holiness lies at the heart of all scripture. Our
holy God desires to dwell close and personal with us and in order for this to be
possible, he has to make us holy. He did this through his Son Jesus. His blood was
able to purify us inside and out, so much so that the Holy Spirit can dwell within us
Essay on Substance Abuse and the Elderly
The purpose of this paper is to determine the level of substance abuse in the elderly
community. There is concern that as the population ages in the United States, there
will be a significant increase in the number of older adults being treated for substance
abuse problems. This paper seeks to understand the issues and concerns that are
consequently involved with substance abuse among the elderly.
There is no doubt that there is a prevalence of substance abuse throughout several age
groups. To a certain extent, a society is faced with the reality of controlling substance
abuse. Or allow it run rampant throughout the community. Often times, we hear and
read about the level of substance abuse among teen, young adults and mid aged ...

Physicians for elderly patients lack communication with each other. If the physicians
lack high level communication, then prescribed medicines may have an adverse
effect on the elderly. The elderly, often times, have cognitive problems, which makes
it difficult for the elderly to understand instructions for prescriptions. This can cause a
serious issue in this particular population.
It can be determined that the elderly seldom get drugs illicitly. As stated earlier, they
usually get drugs by seeing multiple doctors. In addition to this, they stockpile
prescribed medications over time, or getting medications from family members. This
only contributes to the problems of the elderly. Often times, family members are
reluctant to address the issues their elderly family member face.
Although substance abuse among the elderly, like alcohol is low considered
compared to the general population, its prevalence is still high. A study showed the
prevalence of alcohol related problems ranged from 1.4% to 22% (Adams, et al.,
1993). It can be understood that the level of alcohol related problems diminishes as
an individual ages.
Reports of substance abuse among this age group are considered under reported. It
can be understood that the elderly are the unseen components of society. Often times,
the elderly are marginalized and subjected to the realities of old age. Society seems to
shy away from the elderly. This

extensive investments in and outside the US. They have very strong brand names
and are quite competitive. However they differ in their strategies, like the market
segment each one targets, the role of technology in the business, the financial
efficiency of their systems etc. The paper discusses the extent of globalisation that
each firm has taken and what is their strategy in terms of global expansion. The

5Critical Factor Analysis
5.1Critical Factors of Marriott s Global Success
5.1.1High Brand Recognition
Marriott is well known for its strong brand portfolio in all the major markets around
the world, through its luxury brand like Marriott Hotels Resorts, and mid priced
brands like Courtyard. As global communication increases, these highly recognized
brands are definitely the first choice for many businessmen and travellers, for their
global reputation and guaranteed quality.
5.1.2Technical Factor
Marriott adopts a series of technical programs to support its customer service. One of
them is Marriott s Automated Reservation System for Hotel Accommodations
(MARSH), which include a database of all its customers around the world.2 When a
guest enters the Marriott in New York, the system recognizes that she stayed in
Courtyard Tokyo last month and then she would receive a personalized service. This
way Marriott can provide a better customer service through information technology,
which is better than its competitors.
5.1.3Economy Factor
The hotel industry is highly dependent on the economic scenarios. In the past few
years, the fast developing economy in Asia had strong positive influence on Marriott
s globalization. The Asia Pacific hotels industry grew by 21.7% in 2008 to reach a
value of $116.5 billion. 4 While the hotel industry in US is almost mature and
My Cultural Paper On Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant
One of the countries in South America is Peru, home to part of the Amazon rainforest
and also to Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city that was set high in
the Andes Mountains. The civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone
walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant. This restaurant has captured the
essence not only of the ancient civilization, but of the culture of Peruas well. Though
this is a restaurant, they teach their customers about Spanish culture, and they also
contributes to both their immediate community and Hispanic community. So in other
words, this restaurant isn t just a restaurant, but a Peruvian cultural experience. First
of all, the reason why I chose to do my Cultural Paper on Machu PicchuPeruvian
Restaurant is because to me (as well as the community, I m sure), this place isn t only
in existence to sell food, but to allow its customers to experience Peru and it s culture

Windows 8.1 vs Maverick
Windows 8.1 versus Mac Maverick OS
1) Multi tasking
Microsoft leads over OS X with 8.1 by allowing users to run up to four apps on the
screen at once. You can t even snap two windows side by side on OS X Mavericks.
Just as important, you can now snap two Modern apps side by side and have them
both take up half of the screen. Multitasking on OS X Mavericks hasn t improved
much. For the most part, OS X is best for unitasking because of its ability to run
many apps at full screen.
Winner: Windows 8.1. An improved Snap function makes Microsofts OS the better
bet for multitaskers.

Unlike Apple s iCloud, Microsoft s SkyDrive Cloud service lets you access your
files on Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, iOS and Android devices. With Apple, you
can access files via the web. The new feature is iCloud Keychain, which stores
everything from passwords to credit card info in the cloud. Everything gets encrypted
and pushed to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Winner: Windows 8.1 The accessibility of files from more types of devices and
improved integration.
Result:
The choice between OS X and Windows has always been fairly simple for those on
a tight budget. If you don t want to spend $999 or more on a new notebook, a Mac
isn t the right choice for you. But when it comes to the overall experience on
comparable hardware, the choice becomes more difficult. Windows 8.1 builds
upon the touch friendly strengths of Windows 8 while better catering to desktop
users. This OS is better at multitasking than OS X Mavericks, and SkyDrive is
more robust than iCloud. OS X Mavericks isn t all that ambitious a release
compared to the upcoming iOS 7, but it does beat Windows 8.1 in many key
categories. While not as dynamic, Mavericks interface is easier to use because there
aren t two competing environments (desktop and tablet). Mavericks also does a
better job with notifications and search, as well as social sharing. Do we wish Apple

Chandler V Cape Plc Case Summary
Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a very important decision as it
traversed the limits of common law and the fuelled the debate on how much power
and influence the court has in lifting the corporate veil to support the underhanded
claims (due to limited liability) of tort victims. Consequently, it also led to how the
assumption of responsibility is determined given the concept of limited liability. This
assignment is going to analyse the decision of the case, evaluate the reasoning and its
implications, and compare the consequences of a later decision with its precedents.
The case, as per the following evaluation, was found to be pushing the borders of
common law, creating both positive and negative implications. The case was also
found to be contradictory to other important landmark cases, such as Adams v
Cape Industries Plc [1990] Ch 433. The Case s Decision Chandler v Cape Plc [2012]
EWCA Civ 525 was a landmark Court of Appeals decision that resolved a tort victim

industrial injury. The court s decision relied on the existence of a duty of care on
the part of Cape Plc via an assumption of responsibility by using the three part
Caparo test to determine whether there is a duty of care, and the second and third
parts of the test to determine assumption of responsibility. The decision reads:

Effects of Different Fluids on Urine Volume, Concentration, and pH
Introduction
The examination of urine is called urinalysis, which is a diagnostic method for
assessing renal function and diagnosing various types of pathophysiology involving
not on the kidneys but other organs and tissues as well. We will be focusing on the
kidneys for this experiment. The kidneys play an essential role in regulating of
extracellular concentrations of water, electrolytes, and certain end product of
metabolism; additionally they regulate pH and osmotic pressure. The primary
functional unit of the kidneys is the nephron. Each kidney contains approximately one
million nephron. Urine is formed in the nephron ... Show more content on

The nutrient glucose is entirely reabsorbed back into the blood from the proximal
tubules. Sodium ions and other ions are only partially reabsorbed from the renal
tubules.
Secretion is the final process by which substances move into the distal and collecting
tubules from the blood in the capillaries around these tubules. Secretion moves
substances out of the blood and into the tubules where they mix with water and other
wastes and then converted into urine. Kidney tubule secretion plays an important role
in maintaining the body s acid base balance.
Hypothesis:
In this experiment subjects receiving water will produce higher volumes of urine
than the people receiving Gatorade. Also those consuming water will have a lower
pH level and a lighter color. People who drink just water without additives will
produce more volume of urine because the water will not be reabsorbed. Nutrients
such as sugar and electrolytes from the Gatorade will be reabsorbed therefore the
volume released will be less.
Methods
For this lab every student had to participate. Before the experiment started every
participant had to fast for 4 hours. The time period for the experiment was from
12:00pm till 3:00pm. In the beginning of the experiment every participant received a
sterol cup for the urine sample. During this experiment individual subjects had to
empty their bladder every half an hour. To begin everyone began the initial urine
specimen and half an hour later

Training Day Sparknotes
Starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, the 2001 film Training Day focuses
on the portrayal of two Los Angeles Police Department officers. The story begins
with Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt, a rookie narcotics detective on his first day of
assignment. Jake is in a 24 hour period of field evaluation under the reins of a fellow
respected and decorated narcotics officer Alonzo Harris, who is portrayed by Denzel
Washington. Jake Hoyt is the ideal white knight of justice , an individual who is
morally incorruptible, and a person who seeks to defend what is morally correct and
to eliminate injustice through proper practices set under federal and state laws and
standards. On the other side is Alonzo Harris, a ruthless, selfish, and corrupt narcotics
cop who will do whatever it takes to complete the task, whether it violates the
procedures and policies. Through the entirety of the film, the concepts of moral
ambiguity in situational ethics towards institutional justice and the ethical dilemma
of power and corruption amongst enforcement agencies are throughly stressed,
analyzed, and reflected. The film illustrates and advances the implicit message of the
misrepresentation of the criminal justice system, deception of the effectiveness of
institutional justice, and corruption of crime enforcement agencies through the
observation, analysis, and deconstruction of numerous examples in normalization to
ideologies, and formal elements as suggested through the duration of the film. In
Vietnam War Peace Movement
During the Vietnam War, Martin Luther King was the one who led the peace
movement. The peace movement was when Americans gathered to protest to try
make the U.S. bring back the troops from Vietnam. Americans did not want the
U.S. fighting in the Vietnam War and were looking for peace and ease instead.
Many wondered if the peace movement was ever going to end because it clearly did
not work since the U.S was still fighting in the Vietnam War. Nobody really listened
to MLK in the beginning of this movement. Though, this was not a reason to give up.
This only gave most Americans more motivation to keep going. Many doubted the
peaceful movement and weren t sure if it was working. Some even dropped out of

U.S. decided to become involved in the Vietnam War. This was clearly a mistake
because how could the U.S. possible have control over this situation? Sending troops
who have no interest in the Vietnam War whatsoever to fight and die is not a way to
contain communism. Spending money to fight a war that is pointless is not going to
stop communism from spreading. Not only that, but Americans were not even happy
at the fact that the U.S. decided to become involved in the Vietnam War. A large
amount of money was spent on the Vietnam War instead of this money being spent
on the poor or something effective in the U.S. Thousands and thousands of troops
were sent to fight miles and miles away. Many of these men were African Americans
and were not even given their full civil rights, but they were sent to fight to a war
they did not want to be a part of. Many Americans wanted peace in the U.S. and
wanted their troops back to their home. For these many reasons, the Vietnam War was

Furthermore, the U.S. should have maintained peace in their own nation and should

Essay on The Glass Menagerie and the Life of Tennessee...
The Glass Menagerie and the Life of Tennessee Williams
The Glass Menagerie closely parallels the life of the author. From the very job
Tennessee held early in his life to the apartment he and his family lived in. Each of
the characters presented, their actions taken and even the setting have been based on
the past of Thomas Lanier Williams, better known as Tennessee Williams.
Donald Spoto described the new apartment building that Williams and his family
relocated to in St. Louis, Missouri as having only two small windows, one window in
the front of the apartment and another in the rear. A fire escape blocked the smoky
light that might have come in from the window facing the back alley (16). In The

and battered out my brains than go back mornings! I go!.... For sixty five dollars a

The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams expressed through Tom the entrapment
and hopelessness he felt while working in the shoe factory instead of following his
dreams of writing.
Tennessee Williams s mother, Edwina, and Amanda were also closely paralleled.
Edwina Williams had been accepted into the local chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution (D.A.R.). She was occupied with the acting D.A.R. secretary,
handling the national correspondence, and with their social events (Spoto 52).
Williams described his mother as a woman whose endurance and once fine qualities
continued to flourish alongside a narrowness of perception and only the dimmest
awareness of human feeling (Spoto 121). Amanda Wingfieldalso had a narrow life
and no perception of the feelings of her two children. Amanda s life was centered
around her perception of the proper station in life she wanted her children to
achieve and her work as a D.A.R. officer. Amanda pushed Tom to work at the
acceptable job of the shoe factory and to give up his dream of being a writer and
experiencing any adventure. The Scene III

not have autonomy over ours. Smoking in public places does not stop where my

Obstacles In The Titans
The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season.
Some of these obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees.
Even though all odds were against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to
win the state championship. The first, and main obstacle that the Titans faced was
racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the
beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and
parents didn t want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C.
Williams for allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp
by forcing the players to get to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day.
Racism continued throughout the movie, mostly from people outside of the team,
but there was occasional racial tension within the team. The Titans faced many other
obstacles throughout the season, but racism was the biggest one.... Show more content

Environmental Planning in Phoenix
Much like the economic laws of supply and demand, there is a public demand for
land use and infrastructure, the ways in which people get from point A to point B
affect general planning, for example, biking to school or work in the city of Tempe
is common, so the high demand for bike lanes gets incorporated into Tempe s general
plan. A vital purpose of general planning is to designate specific land use, for instance
a particular area in Phoenix can be reserved for commercial use or private use only,
these delineations are useful when trying to separate industrial areas that can
potentially contain harmful or unpleasant waste from neighborhoods. Many of the
elements in general planning interconnect, for example as just explained ineffective
land use can directly and adversely contribute to the environmental element of
planning. If one was to try to summarize environmental planning with two words they
would be sustainabilityand waste management; when people talk about sustainability
they are typically referring to sustainable energy; energy that does not hinder the
lives of future generations. Developed countries are entering a progressive era which
requires the use of renewable energyand sustainable growth, as CO¬2 levels sour
past the 400PPM range meanwhile corporations are lobbying for the right to continue
polluting our air and water supply, it has become evident that the demand for
sustainable energy is higher than ever. The particular environmental plan for Phoenix

Latin America is composed of seventeen countries which was colonized by Spain s
and Portugal. They are large in diverse population with four hundred and ninety
million people in total. The percentage of the Indian and African that lives in Latin
America is basically seventy five percent just in the cities. The industrial and
development grew since the 1960 s; also the free Trade Area of the Americas(FTAA)
proposes to integrate economies of Latin America, North America and the Caribbean
(except Cuba). Prisons for quite a long time have been a gateway to try to save
society. However, the only thing that it s doing is hurting the social order. This
happens because it creates more problems that are not being treated from the
beginning. Crime has become a big problem during these hard times with the poor
economy, but it has especially affected Latin America very deeply because of all the
problems that overcrowded prisons have brought forward. In Latin America Brazil
and Mexico are the two largest and strongest countries that have been affected with
having the highest percentage of crimes, inmates in prisons, and concerns with
overcrowded prisons. And these increase with the high crime rates in Latin America
that are rising due to drug trafficking wars in Brazil and Mexico. Brazil and
Argentina are again the two of Latin America s strongest and largest countries
because they make up most of the common market where other nations come to trade,

Formalist Criticism In The Giant By N. C. Wyeth
Formalist Criticism In this printed reproduction of The Giant by N. C. Wyeth the
artist shows six small children on the beach watching a large cloud like giant walk
across the horizon. The visual culture of the painting would categorize it as fine
art. Fine art in Western cultures consist of oil painting, sculpture and architecture
but now includes all kinds of media such as film, photography, prints, and most
recently performance (Lazzari, 11 12). The original painting was a 5 foot by 6
foot oil painting. The giant is very large in scale compared to the children and
takes up more than three quarters of the height of the picture (Lazzari, 44). This
makes the focal point of the painting vertical, but it does contain some horizontal
points in the children lined up and the streak of cloud going across the middle. He
is almost transparent and appears to be the same consistency of the clouds. He is
carrying a large club over his shoulder and his other hand is fisted. He is wearing a
tunic that has one shoulder strap and a belt with large silver medallions on it. He
has long brownish hair that is blowing backwards as he is walking forward. He is
drawn on a diagonal which also gives him the feeling of forward movement. He
also appears in the background of the picture, while the children appear in the
foreground. The children are facing the ocean and the giant so we do not see their
faces, only the back of their heads. The children are painted in darker colors than the
Tackling The Democratic Deficit Between The European
Union...
This essay seeks to identify, define and offer practical solutions to tackling the
democratic deficit which in the European Union (EU).
Apart from the economic issues plaguing the EU, which is most discussed topic, the
issue of its democratic deficiency remains undebated. Democracy deficit in the EU in
its ordinary meaning means that there is gap between the EU institutions and citizens
in the member states of the EU.
Recommendations have been put forward to bridge the gap between the EU s
institutions and the citizens in the member nations of the EU. These range from
empowering the national Parliament of member states to giving citizens more direct
voice in Europe.
A founding principle of the European Union is Subsidiarity. This is ... Show more

Accountability as a principle allows for people to hold the EU to account. Citizens
must be able to review the performance of those who make decisions. Giving the
power to find blame worthiness in the EU allows people to feel closer to governing
institutions and empowers them. It also has the potential to improve the policy
decisions of those in power.
Finally the principle of Engagement. Engagement should not only have to exist at
the voting booths and ballot boxes it should go beyond. For democracy to exist one
of the requirements is an election. However, elections without involving the
exchange of views between citizens and elected representatives, leads to a pseudo
democracy. This means there would exist alongside the institutions a form of
democracy however without any content. After all, by definition, Democracy is rule
by the people. The efficacy of a democratic system can therefore be measured by the
level of engagement and trust in it.
After establishing the four principles as the basis for examining the EU s
democratic performance, what s left to examine is how the EU falls short of
meeting these standards resulting it suffering from democracy deficit . The
democratic deficit is a well established concept (it was first coined by David
Marquand in 1979). In fact, it is even
Assessing Standardized Tests in the United States
Imagine a test capable of making or breaking a student s chances of getting into his
or her dream college. Imagine a test score that can be easily influenced, but only
through thousands of dollars worth of coaching. Now imagine that same test but
biased towards certain crowds of students while also being incapable of accurately
predicting their futures. Is this the test you want for colleges to use in order to
distinguish students? This is the SATfamous for the unnecessary pressure it presents
to students as well as the unfair disadvantages it presents to many others. Since these
SAT scores are extremely artificial, SAT tests are not an accurate predictor for future
success.
SAT scores are inconsistent since they are directly correlated with average family
income. Studies show that the average SAT score for students (out of 2400) in
families earning up to $20,000 is 1326, whereas students in families earning over
$200,000 receive an average score of 1714. This discrepancy is likely caused by
unequal test preparation. Those with an average income of less than $20,000 tend to
be families that cannot afford proper coaching, but those earning over $200,000 can
afford as much coaching as they want. In other words, wealthier students are able to
surpass the poorer students through gaming the system bringing their score up
hundreds of points through hundreds of dollars worth of private college counseling
as well as through hefty amounts of practice tests. This also means that if

Theoretically, one could probably say that that even the center of gravity for this
kind of triangle could be found by finding the intersection of all the medians, yet
the additional weight of the stairs may slightly throw off such an approach. The
rectangular base, being only two dimensional would therefore have a center of
gravity that is at the dead center, if an only if both sets of lengths and both sets of
widths are of equal weight. At this point one can conclude that the center of gravity
for the entire pyramid is at the height of the center of gravity for all of the triangles,
but joined at one point directly over the center of gravity for the rectangular base
(see figure3). The flummoxing part of this is that the Mayans would have never
been able to figure this out since Calculus and Isaac Newton would not come about
for hundreds of years, yet at the same time, the fact that the pyramids still stand is
evidence to their having an excellent center of gravity. The only plausible
explanations for this are: for one the Mayans must have ensured extraordinary
stability of their base by making sure that all angles were 90В°, second by making
sure that in Rectangle (base) ABCD, AB was equal in weight to CD, ensuring that
AD was equal in weight to BC, and making certain that all the triangles (sides) were
congruent in size and more importantly, weight. (See Figure 4) (Hartog 36). The

Summary Of Titus Livius The History Of Rome
In Titus Livius The History of Rome, Book 1, he tells the story of the rape of the
Sabine women. Though he is a historian, I do not feel that he well represents the
true emotion and feeling of the women, as is common for the time period.
Throughout the telling, Livy fails to discuss the emotions of the women and does
not give an accurate representation of what happened to the captured Sabine women
once they were taken by the Roman men. His word choice is purposefully vague
and nondescript to make the tale more appealing to men of the time. In chapter nine
of The History of Rome, Book 1, Livywrites the beginning of the tale: how Romulus
needed women to keep his new city alive and was rejected by all of the families he
approached. This leads Romulus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first chapter he writes his own version of the tale, showing the true emotions of
the captured women:
As doves flee the eagle in a frightened crowd, as the new born lamb runs from the
hostile wolf: so they fled in panic from the lawless men, and not one showed the
color she had before. (Ovid 1.117 20)
In this passage, Ovid displays the panic and fear that comes with being taken away
from your family which is missing in Livy s version of the story. Rather than using
Livy s style of minimal description, Ovid uses similes to show the emotion felt by
the Sabines in their situation. From there, he continues to show the violence that is
enacted upon the Sabines with the line The captive girls were led away as plunder
for the marriage bed (Ovid 1.125). From that line, the reader instantly knows that
each woman is being raped rather than slept with, as Livy s version seems to say.
Although Rome in seventh century BC was a much different time than the present, I
feel that Livy, as a historian, should have written the tale from a more realistic and
accurate perspective. Because his telling was not detailed, the story is easy to

African American women continue to relax their hair the outcome may be extreme.

The first step is analyze the hair that will be relaxed. Make sure to protect neck and

separate. This is when a protective base will be applied to the hairline. This step is
for a base relaxer. There are non base relaxers as well. It depends on the type of
relaxer one decided to use. The protective base can be applied to other areas of the
hair. This ultimately depends on the manufacturer. In the sodium hydroxiderelaxer,
the formula can have built in ingredients to protect the scalp of the client. This is

in turn has a milder reaction. The process is the same just without the cream. Once
you apply the protectant it is imperative to wear gloves to protect hands from

with a comb, brush, or even fingers. Then use the comb to smooth out the rest of
the relaxer. The manufacture of the hair relaxer will include instructions for use.
This will tell you when to apply the relaxer to the actual scalp and how long the
relaxer should remain in the hair before rinsing it out. After the relaxer, has been
rinsed out it is optional to apply a neutralizer. The neutralizer that makes sure the rest
of the relaxer is out. This once again depends on the chosen relaxer type. After the
neutralizer shampoo has been rinsed out the final steps are to condition and style.

varying type of hair relaxers, the process is typically the same by processing,

Premier League Essay
For the six clubs in England, finishing top four in the Premier League is the same as
surviving relegation.
Without Champions League football, clubs suddenly panic as there is the likely hood
of having to sell off their stars, falling behind to compete in the transfer window, and
losing out on financial resources.
This past season, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool managed to
get across the finish line somewhere in the top four. For them, Champions League
football is looming on the horizon and have nothing to worry about just yet. And
somehow joining them, will be Jose Mourinho s Manchester United, who finished
sixth in the Premier League, but beat Ajax in the Europa League final to qualify.

Tottenham are heading into the summer with more questions than answers,
excitement, and nerves. Their 2016 17 campaign was successful to a degree. They
finally finished above arch rival Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. They said
goodbye to White Heart Lane and replacing it with a revolutionary football stadium.
Best of all they finished second and are going to play Champions League football
yet again. But they did crash out of the Champions League in a very winable group
and have no silverware to show for their brilliant effort this past season.
Three questions to ask:
Can Tottenham hold on to their best players especially from their defense and
midfield?
How much cash are they willing to spend and for who needs in the attack?
Are they ready to take the leap to becoming European Elites doing better in the
Champions League?
As uncertainity swirls around the club going forward, they are a great position to be
more than noisy neighbors to Chelsea and Arsenal.
Manchester City are heading into summer with things to sort out. The super rich club
clearly under performed by finishing third in the Premier League, surrendering a two
goal advantage in the Champions League round of 16 against Monaco, and losing to
Arsenal in the semifinals of the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola has work to do as they club
expects excellence and results. With Champions League football looming and
bookies making one of the favorites to lift the Premier League come next May,

Narrative Consequences Of Trade In Mel Gibson s
Apocalypto
We can presume that populations of human beings have been expending their
time, energy, and resources to acquire valuable commodities to trade for a very
long time. This quintessentially human behavior bolsters social bonds in ways
that would have been a great boon to the survival chances of an individual or tribe.
In the movie Apocalypto , the early minutes depict two tribes of people coming
into contact for the first time. The potentially deadly levels of tension were eased
with a simple greeting from an elder tribesman and an exchange of boar meat for
fish. Narrative elements aside, this is a fantastic recreation of the likely roots of
commerce . But, those times are long gone. These simple acts of reciprocation
evolved drastically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Second World War was ending in 1945 the Allies met in Crimea for the
Yalta Conference to discuss plans for post War Europe. Stalin had come prepared.
He used the stratagem of setting the meeting s location nearer to his homeland than
the homes of the other negotiating parties to exacerbate their discomfort with jet
lag. This also happened to be when Franklin Roosevelt was nearing the end of his
life, a time when negotiating skill would logically suffer. With the other members
of the Big Three either run down or deathly ill, Stalin must have known he was
likely to receive more concessions than he would have otherwise. As underhanded as
this trick was, it was mild when juxtaposed with his geopolitical maneuvers. Earlier
that year, the Soviets acknowledged the Communist Polish government before the
Yalta talks even began, to better position themselves to create a Pro Russian
government in a neighboring country. FDR and Churchill recognized the threat of
this bold move to capitalist markets, but USSR occupation of Poland deprived them
of options. The world leaders met again at the Potsdam conference years later when
the war was nearly won. The question of what to do with Germany was on the
agenda, and it was an especially tricky question. Secretary of War Stimson believed
that returning economic stability to Germany would be in
Character Analysis Of Guy Montag
I ve always wondered if Guy Montag, the main character of Fahrenheit 451, was
actually the hero or just the bad guy in the story. Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 is
a story about a man named Guy Montag who in the beginning of the book was seen
as the bad guy, but later on changes after meeting a girl named Clarisse who
changes his views of things. In the world that Guy lives in, books are against the
law and once you break that law firemen would come and burn your books along
with the house. In this essay, I am going to explain why Guy Montagis Shown as a
bad and good person and whether I consider him a hero or not. In the beginning of
the book, Guy is shown to be the antagonist, because he was working as a fireman.
You may think why would someone working as a fireman be bad . Well in this
story firemen don t stop fires, but instead, they do the opposite. A fireman s duty is
to burn down the books and the house the book came from. At this point of the
book, Guy enjoyed spraying the kerosene, and watching the bright red flames, he
didn t mind walking into his house listening to Mildred, his wife talking to her
family on the tv wall. To me, Guy is the type of antagonist that does whatever he is
told without thinking, basically like a controlled bad guy. He doesn t really know
what his purpose is in life. Guy thinks that being a fireman is an honor and that he is
saving those who have ruined their minds with the gibberish you call a
book.Everything changed once Guy met
Weasel Hairs
Males can weigh up to more than twice as much as females and be more longer.
They have a coat that is a cream color with back layers. In winter their coats are
thick smooth and glossy. In the summers they shed there coats which becomes thin
and faded and they lose the winter gloss. Polecats have a raccoon like dark mask
around their eyes and white are there ear s. Polecats have a pair of anal glands that
emits a strong smell. When polecats are excited or threatened they release some of
the glands. Polecats are lean, and have short legs which are for climbing trees .
Their skulls are box like and it s also more canine, like other weasels; their faces
more closely resemble minks than weasels. European polecats show a lock position
with there jaws where the jaw joint between the teeth and the rest of the skull is
nearly closed off very difficultly and hard to separate and death occurs.
The Minimum Wage Is Not A Living Wage
The Minimum Wage is not a Living Wage The current minimum wage in the United
States is a wage which Americans cannot live on. Americans are forced to live in
poor living conditions because of the low wages they earn. The low wages workers
earn result in poor healthcare because they cannot afford the proper treatment. The
minimum wageleaves little, if any, for any unexpected expenses. The minimum wage
in America affects American workers trying to make ends meet. The minimum wage
needs to be raised and changed to the living wage. The minimum wage in the United
Statesneeds to be raised to a wage which American workers can live on. The current
minimum wage leaves little room for everyday expenses. In this paper, I will
argue that the minimum wage should be raised to a living wage. The minimum
wage which Americans earn creates a financial gap between the employee and the
employer. The need to raise the minimum wage to a living wage lies in the reason
to reduce income inequality. The inequality between the employer and the
employee is an enormous problem in the United States. The employer pays the
employee a wage that is not livable. The Americans earning the minimum wage are
forced to have themselves and their families live on a wage that is not livable. The
minimum wage in itself is not enough to support a family. The cost of necessary
items to live is going up, while the American worker s wage stagnates. The necessity
items that are needed to live on are getting
The Negative Effects Of Spongeb Squarepants On Young
Children
In a 2011 study conducted by researchers at the University of Virginia, it was found
that watching just nine minutes of SpongeBob Square Pants can have negative
effects on the learning ability of young children. The assertion made by this study
was nothing new. The effects of television and media have been a point of much
discussion and study among psychologists, paediatricians, educators and
policymakers. However, the significance of this study in particular was that it focused
on the effects of one cartoon in particular, SpongeBob SquarePants(Hutchson, C. and
Unit, A 2017). As a wildly popular and much loved children s cartoon television
show, the findings of this study became a matter of great debate. The study was
criticized on various grounds and its findings challenged, however, it remains
difficult for critics of the conclusions drawn from this study to rebut the vast array of
findings reported in similar studies which claim that fast paced cartoon shows such as
SpongeBob Squarepants, have found to have detrimental effects on the ability of
young children to learn (Rabin, 2017). As such, the findings of this study hold great
persuasive value (Shute, 2017). Fast paced shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants
can hamper the ability of young children to learn and develop.
The study itself involved only 60 children. 60 children were made to watch
SpongeBob SquarePants for a period of just nine minutes. These children were then
tested for their cognitive abilities. The study
Argumentative Essay-Coal Versus Sustainable Energy
Coal Versus sustainable energy
By: Nasr Mansour
Recently, There is a lot of debate going about the use of coal in generating electricity
in Australia, and the impact of its use on the environment and the habitat around the
coal mining sites.
The on going debate is mainly the questioning of whether we keep using fossil coal
and other fossil fuel like gas and petrol to cater for our ever increasing needs of
energy or to look for more sustainable sources like solar and wind energy to meet the
continuous demand for energy necessary for our modern communities.
Before starting looking to each side of the arguments that may arise along that
debate, it might be a good idea to have a bit of historical background about fossil
coal and its alternatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
, It is A hydrocarbon deposit, derived from the accumulated remains of ancient plants
and animals during very old ages of history, may be many millions of years which is
used as fuel. During burning this fuel to generate electricity, Carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases are also generated and considered by many scientists to be one of
the principal causes of global warming.
Fossil coal usually has the appearance of black or brown sedimentary rocks.
The mining of fossil coal started in Australia very early, in 1908 there were more than
1900 tons produced from the south coast of Australia and since that time, discoveries
of more coal never stopped which encouraged more European settlement to expand
through out Australia.
For over 200 years, mining of fossil coal has produced millions of tons with a big
portion of it being exported overseas which contributed significantly to the Australian
national income and the Australian economy as a whole.
The above concise introduction, which for many may seem not interesting, is
somehow inevitable to understand the reason behind the heavy dependency of
Australian economy on fossil coal both as a source of national revenue and an
abundant factor of generating

  • 1. Shutter Island Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Shutter Island" presents a multifaceted challenge. Firstly, the film itself is a complex psychological thriller, layered with symbolism, ambiguity, and thematic depth. Delving into its intricacies requires a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive understanding of the narrative techniques employed by director Martin Scorsese. Moreover, dissecting the themes of mental illness, perception vs. reality, and the nature of identity necessitates a nuanced approach to analysis. One must navigate through the labyrinth of the protagonist's mind, deciphering clues, and unraveling the mysteries embedded within the storyline. Additionally, exploring the film's cinematic elements, such as its cinematography, sound design, and editing, demands a thorough examination of visual and auditory cues that contribute to its atmospheric tension and suspense. Furthermore, conducting research to contextualize the film within the broader spectrum of psychological thrillers and examining critical interpretations adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. In essence, crafting an essay on "Shutter Island" requires not only a deep understanding of the film itself but also a capacity for critical thinking, analysis, and interpretation. It entails navigating through psychological complexities, cinematic techniques, and thematic nuances to construct a coherent and insightful piece of writing. In the WNBA, television ratings and attendance numbers were up (Berkman), and first game of the NWHL s inaugural season brought a crowd that filled the venue to capacity, followed by a later game in a larger building where 1,231 fans came to see Boston beat the Buffalo Beauts in a 4 1 victory, a turnout that exceeded the attendance to all but two NCAA Division I game last season (Borzi). The minimum salary of the NWSL is $6,842, and considering how many hours these athletes put into ensuring that they are at the top of their game, their salary averages out at about minimum wage (Kassouf). • 13. The Success Of The Club In 2005, a shocking news hit the city of Manchester, home of the EPL s most successful club with a history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United. Their beloved club was to be acquired by an American business tycoon, Malcolm Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the fact that most of the capital used by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load ВЈ525million of debt on to the club itself. This was problematic because it meant that money otherwise could be used to acquire top talents, improve training facilities, or towards the club s CSR activities would be used to pay back Glazer s debt. The leveraged buyout of the club was directly against the interests of the fans who are the most important stakeholder.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since Glazer loaded the club with ВЈ525million debt, over ВЈ680million has gone towards servicing the debt, including interest fees, bank charges, and debt repayment as of May 2014. On the other hand, the club s spending on acquisition of players during the same period was ВЈ382.9million while its rivals Manchester City has spent ВЈ693.7million, Chelsea ВЈ600.2million, Tottenham ВЈ448.2million, and Liverpool have splashed out a total of ВЈ443.75million. In other words, Man Utd spent more on servicing Glazer s debt than it did on strengthening its squad. Although Man Utd won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League under Glazer s ownership, underinvestment eventually led to aging squad and failure to find suitable replacements. As a result, in 2013/2014 season, Man Utd finished the season in 7th place, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1990/1991 season while its neighbor, Manchester City, won the title. While Man Utd was suffering from severely deteriorated financial situation, Man City, under the ownership of an Arabian prince, Sheikh Mansour, invested heavily not only to acquiring top players, but also to building a new stadium, training facilities, and even to the community by subway construction and new homes. Despite the fact that Man Utd spent ВЈ152.3million in the transfer market this season, the investment does not seem to be paying off yet as the team ranks fourth in the league as of
  • 14. Rhetorical Devices In The Convergence Of The Twain By... The construction of the Titanic started on March 31, 1909 and finished on May 31, 1911. During the process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as possible, accessorizing it with many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase and its promenade deck. Many people at the time believed that the Titanic would never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after it has set sail. Unfortunately, the unsinkable ship collided with an icebergon April 14, 1912, claiming the lives of 1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving behind its legacy. Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the Titanic. Unlike the many similar reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had, Hardy approaches the event differently. In the poem, The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy uses a variety of rhetorical devices to express his disdain for the vanity of humans during the first half of the poem and to explain that fate s work resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the poem. Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition, and alliteration to emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless and it has led to the downfall of the Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the vanity of those that built the ship. He describes the people as the Pride of Life. The description alludes to the book of John in the Christian Bible.

However due to societal values changing over time since this act was written some content that would have been deemed obscene half a century ago could be more accepted nowadays. ? The internet became public in 1991, this caused more of a cultural change making the Obscene Publication Act even more outdated. Alternatively, the act can still play a part in court in modern day cases, to find obscenity. • 18. Book Of Levius Research Paper The book of Leviticus has always seemed to be a disconnected, confusing, and thank God we do not have to book in the Bible for me. Whether the command was what to wear, forbidden foods to eat, how to harvest the land or what sacrifice to make and when, the text had left me disinterested. However, this week I found myself captivated by the text and class readings. First of all, the big picture of the book of Leviticus was brought to light. Specifically, in order for a Holy Godto dwell with his people, they would have to become holy and he alone is the one who makes them holy. In fact, the closer they came to God the more holy they would need to be. Desmond Alexander said it this way, For the Israelites to enjoy a close and meaningful relationship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can even be pictured through the arrangement of the Tabernacle. The further in, the more holy it becomes. So much so, that only the High Priest may enter the Holy of Holies. Secondly, many others and I have approached Leviticus from a logical and modern perspective, which creates confusion. However, Mary Douglas points out the overwhelming analogical emphasis of the entire book. She says, only when we take, the whole system of analogies in which it nests will [we] show how it is to be read (Douglas 20). In other words, every aspect of the book is connected intricately together to underscore the holiness of God. Furthermore, Douglas points out that, Bible students have to choose between accepting the muddle made by imposing a Western linear reading upon an archaic text, or trying to read the book through its own literary conventions (Douglas 51). This opens up a clearer new view of Leviticus where the entire sacrificial system is connected to the entire story of the Bible. So why is Leviticus important for us today? Alexander says, The concept of holiness lies at the heart of the Pentateuch (Alexander 246). I would even go a step further and state that holiness lies at the heart of all scripture. Our holy God desires to dwell close and personal with us and in order for this to be possible, he has to make us holy. He did this through his Son Jesus. His blood was able to purify us inside and out, so much so that the Holy Spirit can dwell within us

There is concern that as the population ages in the United States, there will be a significant increase in the number of older adults being treated for substance abuse problems. This paper seeks to understand the issues and concerns that are consequently involved with substance abuse among the elderly. There is no doubt that there is a prevalence of substance abuse throughout several age groups. To a certain extent, a society is faced with the reality of controlling substance abuse. Or allow it run rampant throughout the community. Often times, we hear and read about the level of substance abuse among teen, young adults and mid aged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physicians for elderly patients lack communication with each other. If the physicians lack high level communication, then prescribed medicines may have an adverse effect on the elderly. The elderly, often times, have cognitive problems, which makes it difficult for the elderly to understand instructions for prescriptions. This can cause a serious issue in this particular population. It can be determined that the elderly seldom get drugs illicitly. As stated earlier, they usually get drugs by seeing multiple doctors. In addition to this, they stockpile prescribed medications over time, or getting medications from family members. This only contributes to the problems of the elderly. Often times, family members are reluctant to address the issues their elderly family member face. Although substance abuse among the elderly, like alcohol is low considered compared to the general population, its prevalence is still high. A study showed the prevalence of alcohol related problems ranged from 1.4% to 22% (Adams, et al., 1993). It can be understood that the level of alcohol related problems diminishes as an individual ages. Reports of substance abuse among this age group are considered under reported. It can be understood that the elderly are the unseen components of society. Often times, the elderly are marginalized and subjected to the realities of old age. Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city that was set high in the Andes Mountains. The civilization was renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls, and so is Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant. This restaurant has captured the essence not only of the ancient civilization, but of the culture of Peruas well. Though this is a restaurant, they teach their customers about Spanish culture, and they also contributes to both their immediate community and Hispanic community. So in other words, this restaurant isn t just a restaurant, but a Peruvian cultural experience. First of all, the reason why I chose to do my Cultural Paper on Machu PicchuPeruvian Restaurant is because to me (as well as the community, I m sure), this place isn t only in existence to sell food, but to allow its customers to experience Peru and it s culture as much as possible without going to the actual country. When you first drive past the restaurant, the stone design of the outside draws your attention. This restaurant is located in downtown Newburgh (one of the most dangerous cities in New York), so its design automatically stands out from the poverty surrounding the area. Also, from the moment I walked into the restaurant, it was like I stepped into a different world; from the smells to the ambiance, this restaurant embodied Peru to the T . The dishes on the menu were all authentic, Peruvian

  • 23. Chandler V Cape Plc Case Summary Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a very important decision as it traversed the limits of common law and the fuelled the debate on how much power and influence the court has in lifting the corporate veil to support the underhanded claims (due to limited liability) of tort victims. Consequently, it also led to how the assumption of responsibility is determined given the concept of limited liability. This assignment is going to analyse the decision of the case, evaluate the reasoning and its implications, and compare the consequences of a later decision with its precedents. The case, as per the following evaluation, was found to be pushing the borders of common law, creating both positive and negative implications. The case was also found to be contradictory to other important landmark cases, such as Adams v Cape Industries Plc [1990] Ch 433. The Case s Decision Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a landmark Court of Appeals decision that resolved a tort victim s claims from a parent companyof a subsidiarywhere the victim suffered an industrial injury. Timothy Cirera WED Lab Physiology 12 Renal Lab Effects of Different Fluids on Urine Volume, Concentration, and pH Introduction The examination of urine is called urinalysis, which is a diagnostic method for assessing renal function and diagnosing various types of pathophysiology involving not on the kidneys but other organs and tissues as well. We will be focusing on the kidneys for this experiment. The kidneys play an essential role in regulating of extracellular concentrations of water, electrolytes, and certain end product of metabolism; additionally they regulate pH and osmotic pressure. The primary functional unit of the kidneys is the nephron. Each kidney contains approximately one million nephron. Urine is formed in the nephron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The nutrient glucose is entirely reabsorbed back into the blood from the proximal tubules. Sodium ions and other ions are only partially reabsorbed from the renal tubules. Secretion is the final process by which substances move into the distal and collecting tubules from the blood in the capillaries around these tubules. Secretion moves substances out of the blood and into the tubules where they mix with water and other wastes and then converted into urine. Kidney tubule secretion plays an important role in maintaining the body s acid base balance. Hypothesis: In this experiment subjects receiving water will produce higher volumes of urine than the people receiving Gatorade. Also those consuming water will have a lower pH level and a lighter color. People who drink just water without additives will produce more volume of urine because the water will not be reabsorbed. Nutrients such as sugar and electrolytes from the Gatorade will be reabsorbed therefore the volume released will be less. Methods For this lab every student had to participate. Before the experiment started every participant had to fast for 4 hours. The time period for the experiment was from 12:00pm till 3:00pm. In the beginning of the experiment every participant received a sterol cup for the urine sample. During this experiment individual subjects had to empty their bladder every half an hour. Training Day Sparknotes Starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, the 2001 film Training Day focuses on the portrayal of two Los Angeles Police Department officers. The story begins with Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt, a rookie narcotics detective on his first day of assignment. Jake is in a 24 hour period of field evaluation under the reins of a fellow respected and decorated narcotics officer Alonzo Harris, who is portrayed by Denzel Washington. Jake Hoyt is the ideal white knight of justice , an individual who is morally incorruptible, and a person who seeks to defend what is morally correct and to eliminate injustice through proper practices set under federal and state laws and standards. On the other side is Alonzo Harris, a ruthless, selfish, and corrupt narcotics cop who will do whatever it takes to complete the task, whether it violates the procedures and policies. Through the entirety of the film, the concepts of moral ambiguity in situational ethics towards institutional justice and the ethical dilemma of power and corruption amongst enforcement agencies are throughly stressed, analyzed, and reflected. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. Giving the power to find blame worthiness in the EU allows people to feel closer to governing institutions and empowers them. It also has the potential to improve the policy decisions of those in power. Finally the principle of Engagement. Engagement should not only have to exist at the voting booths and ballot boxes it should go beyond. For democracy to exist one of the requirements is an election. However, elections without involving the exchange of views between citizens and elected representatives, leads to a pseudo democracy. This means there would exist alongside the institutions a form of democracy however without any content. After all, by definition, Democracy is rule by the people. The democratic deficit is a well established concept (it was first coined by David Marquand in 1979). In fact, it is even

Imagine a test score that can be easily influenced, but only through thousands of dollars worth of coaching. Now imagine that same test but biased towards certain crowds of students while also being incapable of accurately predicting their futures. Is this the test you want for colleges to use in order to distinguish students? This is the SATfamous for the unnecessary pressure it presents to students as well as the unfair disadvantages it presents to many others. Since these SAT scores are extremely artificial, SAT tests are not an accurate predictor for future success. SAT scores are inconsistent since they are directly correlated with average family income. Studies show that the average SAT score for students (out of 2400) in families earning up to $20,000 is 1326, whereas students in families earning over $200,000 receive an average score of 1714. This discrepancy is likely caused by unequal test preparation. Those with an average income of less than $20,000 tend to be families that cannot afford proper coaching, but those earning over $200,000 can afford as much coaching as they want. In other words, wealthier students are able to surpass the poorer students through gaming the system bringing their score up hundreds of points through hundreds of dollars worth of private college counseling as well as through hefty amounts of practice tests. At this point one can conclude that the center of gravity for the entire pyramid is at the height of the center of gravity for all of the triangles, but joined at one point directly over the center of gravity for the rectangular base (see figure3). The flummoxing part of this is that the Mayans would have never been able to figure this out since Calculus and Isaac Newton would not come about for hundreds of years, yet at the same time, the fact that the pyramids still stand is evidence to their having an excellent center of gravity. The actual process of hair straightening came from a man named Garrett Augustus Morgan. As a black inventor, his accomplishments weren t widely known but indeed successful. He invented the automatic traffic signal and gas mask. It was said that he stumbles across the discovery of hair relaxers while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first step is analyze the hair that will be relaxed. Make sure to protect neck and body with cover. Next you will part the hair into sections and clip them to keep all separate. This is when a protective base will be applied to the hairline. This step is for a base relaxer. There are non base relaxers as well. It depends on the type of relaxer one decided to use. The protective base can be applied to other areas of the hair. This ultimately depends on the manufacturer. In the sodium hydroxiderelaxer, the formula can have built in ingredients to protect the scalp of the client. This is calls a base formula. A no base formula does not have this petroleum cream which in turn has a milder reaction. The process is the same just without the cream. Once you apply the protectant it is imperative to wear gloves to protect hands from chemicals in the actual relaxer . Next, you apply the relaxer one section at a time with a comb, brush, or even fingers. Then use the comb to smooth out the rest of the relaxer. The manufacture of the hair relaxer will include instructions for use. This will tell you when to apply the relaxer to the actual scalp and how long the relaxer should remain in the hair before rinsing it out. After the relaxer, has been rinsed out it is optional to apply a neutralizer. The neutralizer that makes sure the rest of the relaxer is out. This once again depends on the chosen relaxer type. After the neutralizer shampoo has been rinsed out the final steps are to condition and style. Style option which typically incorporates flat ironing or a heat based style. Even with varying type of hair relaxers, the process is typically the same by processing, neutralizing, and then conditioning the

Without Champions League football, clubs suddenly panic as there is the likely hood of having to sell off their stars, falling behind to compete in the transfer window, and losing out on financial resources. This past season, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool managed to get across the finish line somewhere in the top four. For them, Champions League football is looming on the horizon and have nothing to worry about just yet. And somehow joining them, will be Jose Mourinho s Manchester United, who finished sixth in the Premier League, but beat Ajax in the Europa League final to qualify. For the first time in 20 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tottenham are heading into the summer with more questions than answers, excitement, and nerves. Their 2016 17 campaign was successful to a degree. They finally finished above arch rival Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. They said goodbye to White Heart Lane and replacing it with a revolutionary football stadium. Best of all they finished second and are going to play Champions League football yet again. But they did crash out of the Champions League in a very winable group and have no silverware to show for their brilliant effort this past season. Three questions to ask: Can Tottenham hold on to their best players especially from their defense and midfield? How much cash are they willing to spend and for who needs in the attack? Are they ready to take the leap to becoming European Elites doing better in the Champions League? As uncertainity swirls around the club going forward, they are a great position to be more than noisy neighbors to Chelsea and Arsenal. Manchester City are heading into summer with things to sort out. The super rich club clearly under performed by finishing third in the Premier League, surrendering a two goal advantage in the Champions League round of 16 against Monaco, and losing to Arsenal in the semifinals of the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola has work to do as they club expects excellence and results. With Champions League football looming and bookies making one of the favorites to lift the Premier League come next May, Guardiola

Narrative Consequences Of Trade In Mel Gibson s Apocalypto We can presume that populations of human beings have been expending their time, energy, and resources to acquire valuable commodities to trade for a very long time. This quintessentially human behavior bolsters social bonds in ways that would have been a great boon to the survival chances of an individual or tribe. In the movie Apocalypto , the early minutes depict two tribes of people coming into contact for the first time. The potentially deadly levels of tension were eased with a simple greeting from an elder tribesman and an exchange of boar meat for fish. Narrative elements aside, this is a fantastic recreation of the likely roots of commerce . But, those times are long gone. These simple acts of reciprocation evolved drastically... He used the stratagem of setting the meeting s location nearer to his homeland than the homes of the other negotiating parties to exacerbate their discomfort with jet lag. This also happened to be when Franklin Roosevelt was nearing the end of his life, a time when negotiating skill would logically suffer. With the other members of the Big Three either run down or deathly ill, Stalin must have known he was likely to receive more concessions than he would have otherwise. As underhanded as this trick was, it was mild when juxtaposed with his geopolitical maneuvers. Earlier that year, the Soviets acknowledged the Communist Polish government before the Yalta talks even began, to better position themselves to create a Pro Russian government in a neighboring country. FDR and Churchill recognized the threat of this bold move to capitalist markets, but USSR occupation of Poland deprived them of options. The world leaders met again at the Potsdam conference years later when the war was nearly won. The question of what to do with Germany was on the agenda, and it was an especially tricky question. Secretary of War Stimson believed that returning economic stability to Germany would be in
  • 44. Character Analysis Of Guy Montag I ve always wondered if Guy Montag, the main character of Fahrenheit 451, was actually the hero or just the bad guy in the story. Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 is a story about a man named Guy Montag who in the beginning of the book was seen as the bad guy, but later on changes after meeting a girl named Clarisse who changes his views of things. In the world that Guy lives in, books are against the law and once you break that law firemen would come and burn your books along with the house. In this essay, I am going to explain why Guy Montagis Shown as a bad and good person and whether I consider him a hero or not. In the beginning of the book, Guy is shown to be the antagonist, because he was working as a fireman. You may think why would someone working as a fireman be bad . Well in this story firemen don t stop fires, but instead, they do the opposite. A fireman s duty is to burn down the books and the house the book came from. At this point of the book, Guy enjoyed spraying the kerosene, and watching the bright red flames, he didn t mind walking into his house listening to Mildred, his wife talking to her family on the tv wall. To me, Guy is the type of antagonist that does whatever he is told without thinking, basically like a controlled bad guy. He doesn t really know what his purpose is in life. Guy thinks that being a fireman is an honor and that he is saving those who have ruined their minds with the gibberish you call a book.Everything changed once Guy met

Americans are forced to live in poor living conditions because of the low wages they earn. The low wages workers earn result in poor healthcare because they cannot afford the proper treatment. The minimum wageleaves little, if any, for any unexpected expenses. The minimum wage in America affects American workers trying to make ends meet. The minimum wage needs to be raised and changed to the living wage. The minimum wage in the United Statesneeds to be raised to a wage which American workers can live on. The current minimum wage leaves little room for everyday expenses. In this paper, I will argue that the minimum wage should be raised to a living wage. The minimum wage which Americans earn creates a financial gap between the employee and the employer. The need to raise the minimum wage to a living wage lies in the reason to reduce income inequality. The inequality between the employer and the employee is an enormous problem in the United States. The employer pays the employee a wage that is not livable. The Americans earning the minimum wage are forced to have themselves and their families live on a wage that is not livable. The minimum wage in itself is not enough to support a family. The cost of necessary items to live is going up, while the American worker s wage stagnates. The necessity items that are needed to live on are getting

The Negative Effects Of Spongeb Squarepants On Young Children In a 2011 study conducted by researchers at the University of Virginia, it was found that watching just nine minutes of SpongeBob Square Pants can have negative effects on the learning ability of young children. The assertion made by this study was nothing new. The effects of television and media have been a point of much discussion and study among psychologists, paediatricians, educators and policymakers. However, the significance of this study in particular was that it focused on the effects of one cartoon in particular, SpongeBob SquarePants(Hutchson, C. and Unit, A 2017). As a wildly popular and much loved children s cartoon television show, the findings of this study became a matter of great debate. The study was criticized on various grounds and its findings challenged, however, it remains difficult for critics of the conclusions drawn from this study to rebut the vast array of findings reported in similar studies which claim that fast paced cartoon shows such as SpongeBob Squarepants, have found to have detrimental effects on the ability of young children to learn (Rabin, 2017). As such, the findings of this study hold great persuasive value (Shute, 2017). Fast paced shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants can hamper the ability of young children to learn and develop. The study itself involved only 60 children. 60 children were made to watch SpongeBob SquarePants for a period of just nine minutes. These children were then tested for their cognitive abilities. The study

Argumentative Essay-Coal Versus Sustainable Energy Coal Versus sustainable energy By: Nasr Mansour Recently, There is a lot of debate going about the use of coal in generating electricity in Australia, and the impact of its use on the environment and the habitat around the coal mining sites. The on going debate is mainly the questioning of whether we keep using fossil coal and other fossil fuel like gas and petrol to cater for our ever increasing needs of energy or to look for more sustainable sources like solar and wind energy to meet the continuous demand for energy necessary for our modern communities. Before starting looking to each side of the arguments that may arise along that debate, it might be a good idea to have a bit of historical background about fossil coal and its alternatives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... , It is A hydrocarbon deposit, derived from the accumulated remains of ancient plants and animals during very old ages of history, may be many millions of years which is used as fuel. During burning this fuel to generate electricity, Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are also generated and considered by many scientists to be one of the principal causes of global warming. Fossil coal usually has the appearance of black or brown sedimentary rocks. The mining of fossil coal started in Australia very early, in 1908 there were more than 1900 tons produced from the south coast of Australia and since that time, discoveries of more coal never stopped which encouraged more European settlement to expand through out Australia. For over 200 years, mining of fossil coal has produced millions of tons with a big portion of it being exported overseas which contributed significantly to the Australian national income and the Australian economy as a whole. The above concise introduction, which for many may seem not interesting, is somehow inevitable to understand the reason behind the heavy dependency of Australian economy on fossil coal both as a source of national revenue and an abundant factor of generating
