to serve 20 years in the Army. He retired before he was 40. It would seem that with a full military
career and generous retirement package under his belt, he would relax and move on. This was not the

Our daily life is effortlessly painted by our ignorance and own deceit and self deception. Our most
prized possession, language, not only strengthens our ability to lie, but also greatly extends it scope.
According to the book The Folly of Fools The Logic of Deceit and Self Deception in Human Life,
written by Robert Trivers, we as humans lie to ourselves to better lie to others. In this book, deceit and
self deception are analyzed from different perspectives of life and different perspectives scientifically.
The main topics discussed are the evolutionary logic of self deception, neurophysiology and levels of
imposed self deception, the psychology of self deception, and self deception and the structure of social
sciences. In the text to follow, I will discuss each category in detail in hopes to better understand why

The Danger of Faith Many remember Young Goodman Brown as the classic tale of a young idealistic
Puritan and his brush with the devil. This classic allegory by Nathanial Hawthorne, led him to be
considered the founder of the modern short story. (Kellan) This story explores the relationship
between faith, destiny and the evilness of mankind. It also exposes the hypocrisy of those who are
considered the most righteous, and what can happen when a person s ideals are shattered. There is a

I went to the cat show hosted by the Santa Monica Cat Club on October 7, 2017 at the Pomona
Fairplex. I always wanted to go to a cat show so I was curious about the one offered by the Santa
Monica Cat Club. I did not know what to expect at all. I am used to seeing what dog shows look like
on TV. The overall environment was relaxing and everyone was relatively calm. At the entrance, I was
given a colorful pamphlet with the cat breeds that were participating in the show.
I was surprised when I entered the building. There were so many cat breeds but the overall location
felt pretty small probably because they do not need as much space as dogs. I went to every cat that
was present in their cat carrier. Some of them were not there because they were being shown on stage.
I wondered if they ever felt stressed being around so many people for long hours. They probably get
used to it after competing at different shows. The breeders seemed pretty nice and they were willing to
let me pet their cats and to tell me more about their breeds.
There were so many cats I could not keep track of their names, awards, and breeds. The breeds that
really stood out to me were the Toygers, Abyssinians, Sphynxs, Persians, and the American Shorthairs.
At the time I did not know as many cat breeds, but I am happy that I learned some before going

The alternative food movement in North America, manifesting largely through farmers markets,
encourages people to buy local, eat organic, and to support local farmers, however these spaces are

Moving from a personal to a political narrative, localisation is presented as the way to address social
injustices and environmental degradation, working against our current destructive global agri food
system (Allen 2004,2010). Advocating for individuals to buy local organic food is seen as voting for

Agyeman, 2011:2). Consequently, the concept of local food and just food are viewed interchangeably
by certain actors in the food movement through the increasing integration of the word justice into their
webpages, non profit names, and programs (DuPuis, Harrison, Goodman, 2011). However, I argue that
the conflation of local food as just by alternative food movements in North America reinforces racial
inequities and excludes those most harmed by the current food system, particularly low income
communities and communities of color. As such, this paper proposes the concept of reflexive localism

Geological Hazards of Missouri Although many may not consider Missouri to be a hot spot of
geological related natural disasters, there are multiple geological hazards which occur throughout the
state. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Geological Survey Program, the
hazards most often occurring in Missouri are earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes and abandoned mines
(Geologic Hazards). Although most of the current earthquakes in Missouri measure between 1.0 and

In comparison, To Kill a Mockingbird , presents the idea that the court, and the court alone determine
justice. The idea of pursuing justice outside the court is seen as unjust. Characters, such as Atticus
who wish for a fair trial never have their wishes heard. The ideologies that the court holds on justice
are not capable of being changed; the court is the one that holds the power to make the final verdict.
Our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this country, our courts are the great

The Genes Run in the Family
In the nineteenth century, America was a place of immigration and new ideas. Many immigrants came
to the United States in pursuit of the American dream, the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
(Dictionary.com), but attaining this goal was not as easy as it may sound. Some were born into the
American dream while others who were born into the lower class had to try and work towards the
dream but oftentimes failed. In the novel McTeague, Frank Norris depicts how the force of heredity
affects an individual s success with the American dream through McTeague, Maria, and Zerkow. All
three of these characters are given parents and ancestries that are the main cause of their downfalls.
Norris demonstrates how in the end, one s own success is determined by that of their parents as he
supplies McTeague with several opportunities throughout the novel to change his fortune, but it is his
parents fault that he is not able to succeed. McTeagues father is described as steady, hard working
while at work, yet when at home he is a brute, crazy with alcohol (Norris 2). This alcoholism dug his
father deep into a hole and he eventually died from it, never amounting to anything more than a shift
boss at the mine. McTeague follows this path of his father when he too becomes a drunken brute and
his stupidity, the sluggishness of his brain, seemed to be unusually stimulated (Norris 234) by the
alcohol. McTeague s alcoholism leads him to beating Trina and eventually killing her for the money.
His father did not beat and kill McTeague s mother because she had no money that she was keeping
from him, but McTeague inevitably fell into his father s drunken footsteps and was pushed even
further by Trina s actions towards his death. One of McTeague s opportunities for success arises after
he kills Trina and leaves with all of the money, but his inherited stupidity managed to reap no benefit
from the opportunity. He was forced to leave the area and flee from law enforcement officers, so he
travelled to various mines, once again a miner like his father was. His father being a miner and
McTeague s imbecility work in harmony to conclude that it was inevitable McTeague would further

Medieval Theatre was a source of education and reflection for the residents of the Middle Ages.
Serving as an inspiration for Renaissance plays, it took centuries of evolution for Medieval to
accommodate themes outside of the Bible. Theatre in the Middle Ages was an enemy of the Catholic
Church, who tried to terminate these performances. Unusually, the Catholic Church played a
significant role in the development of Medieval Theatre. Although plays were limited to the themes of
the Bible for a long period of time, bizarre masks, costumes and great structuring of stages were used.
Following the collapse of the Roman Empire, a small group of performers travelled to various
destinations to entertain audiences about all aspects of life. They toured countries and many regions to
tell stories, play music and even perform acrobatic arts. Wherever they went, festivals emerged. This
caused commotion between Religious practitioners, who tried to convert the performers and end their
performances which were deemed sinful. The Catholic Church, which was highly responsible for the
growth of Medieval Theatre, offered a service. This service provided the dramatization of Biblical

Comparison Of Halo And Call Of War
Let s analyze this. Halo and its single player campaign held a vast universe and followed the Spartan
warriors into battle to save the Earth from the alien invasion of 2 different races while Call of Duty
has switched from World War 2 and the Modern era. I must say, the World War 2 story lines were
quite boring, being the same in almost every way, but the Modern Warfare story line caught my
attention. With the evil villain Makarov and the twists and turns the story made in Modern Warfare 2, I
was on the edge of my seat. But, Halo was in every way better in the single player front. Following
genetically enhanced Spartan warriors into battle fighting off hordes of aliens I was amazed with how
deep the story got and how Bungie used every asset they could to enhance the story further in a not so
crazy way.

that follows loss. In the previous stanzas, Bishop has sowed and reaped the hallucinatory thought that
