Citizen Vs Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is of major importance to the history of the United States, and the
same is true for the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen regarding the history of France.
Both documents were the start or major change within each of the countries. The Declaration of
Independence stated the colonies were no longer under Great Britain rule, but instead they were now
their own free country. In France the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen was written to
limit the power and authority of the crown and government. Although the documents express different
concerns there are still distinct similarities between the two. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and
the Citizen limits the power of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen says Men are born free and remain equal in rights

Declaration of Independence it states All men are created equal .(Using APA, 1776, paragraph two.,

that citizens have rights that can not be taken away. Each document was written because there was a
problem with what was going on within each country. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the
Citizen was written so that the crown was no longer above the laws, and the Declaration of
Independence was written because the king of Great Britain had abused his powers and making the
colonists suffer. Each country wrote the documents because they had a problem with their
government. The Declaration of

The Human Modes Of Communication
For Postman, the human modes of communication play an important role in terms of shaping
discourse. If one can understand the role that methods of communication play in shaping culture and
discourse, one can better understand how communication impacts the development and subsequent
spread of culture and knowledge. Therefore, constructing an understanding of human epistemology
requires an analysis of the prevalent mediums of communication within society. Postman argues that
the unique nature of each form of communication controls, ...what kind of content can issue from such
forms. 1 (p. 6) He gives the example of smoke signals utilized by Native Americans. These smoke

(p. 65) The invention of the telegraph brought about discourse for the sake of discourse, and thus, ...it
would require the content of that conversation to be different from what Typographic Man was
accustomed to. 5 (p. 65) As the telegraph rose to prevalence, so too did the spread of useless
information. Information became a commodity, something that served no purpose other than to
inform. Information no longer needed to serve any sort of relevance be it social or political it became a
novelty intended to entertain and satisfy curiosity. The implication of such a shift in medium cannot be
underestimated. To Postman, By generating an abundance of irrelevant information, it [the telegraph]
dramatically altered what may be called the information action ratio. 6 (p. 68) The problem with this is
that society has slowly become complacent with their impotency in terms of acting with regards to the
news. The news that one hears no longer has the ability to guide one s actions, as it is irrelevant. The
telegraph created a culture in which rapid, readily replaced information is desirable; and it is this shift
in discourse that has created the cultural idea that intelligence is, ...meant knowing of lots of things,
not knowing about them. 7 (p. 70)

Underground Railroad Case Study
The Underground Railroad is a counseling and advocacy services for victims of domestic violence and
stalking. They are located locally in Saginaw, Michigan, but have offices and services the whole state
of Michigan. This organization dates to 1976 when Barbara Klimaszewski was found and needed
emergency shelter because she was a battered woman and needed it for her and her children. At that
time there was not a program that existed and so a solution was needed. A group called Feminist
United for Social Equality (all women), created the Underground Railroad to provide shelter for
Barbara and women and children similar in her situation. This provided shelter and protection for
them. Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church provided the original shelter building for this. Doors first

Imagery In Living Like Weasels By Annie Dillard
In Living like Weasels , author Annie Dillard uses rhetorical devices to convey that life would be
better lived solely in a physical capacity, governed by necessity , executed by instinct. Through Dillard
s use of descriptive imagery, indulging her audience, radical comparisons of nature and civilization
and anecdotal evidence, this concept is ultimately conveyed.
Incontrovertibly, one of the first things one may notice upon reading the work, is the use of highly
explicit imagery connecting her thoughts and ideologies. With these techniques, her whole impression
of the essay establishes an adversary relationship between the natural world and the human world. In
summary, the author imposes that with weasels, much more freedom is granted through instinctual
living, rather than as humans, who live with choices. Through her vivid and truly descriptive imagery,
one may see emphasize and glorification to the way of life these little creatures live. Dillard writes I
think I retrieved my brain from the weasel s brain, from this hyperbole, she greatly induces her
extreme and genuine fascination with these weasels. This device ultimately emphasizes the central
idea that we as humans would be better off living and thinking like weasels. When exploring future
into the work, one may continue seeing this technique into play as Dillard states, The man could in no
way pry the tiny weasels off, and he had to walk half a mile to water, the weasels dangling from his
palm, and soak hi,

Inspecting Incoming Containerized Shipping Crates Essays
There are many arguing points as to the validity of inspecting 100% of all incoming containerized
shipping crates. According to Jim Kouri, Over 12 million containers enter our country each year, and
less than six percent are heavily inspected (Kouri). Sooner or later our enemies will attempt to utilize
this weakness in our national defense system to attack American citizens and our way of life.

Therefore, once a container is loaded onto a vessel, even if it is identified for additional screening, the

inspect it. According to CBP, The Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C TPAT) is a
collaborative effort between customs and the private community to improve the overall security of
their supply chains, and to communicate their established security procedures, guidelines, and
expectations to their business partners (C TPAT Overview). Suppliers who participate in C TPAT are
required to take stringent security steps with his/her goods in order to receive less scrutiny at the

of less scrutiny at the border entices many shipping companies to comply with CPAT standards.
However, some overseas companies are simply complying with the new regulations in order to receive
the benefits the regulations set forth. After being certified, many of them slip back into their old habits
of doing business. The first smuggling incident involving a C TPAT carrier occurred in 2005. In three

Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and coordinating all database
activities. The DBA s job description includes database design, user coordination, backup, recovery,
overall performance, and database security. The database administrator plays a crucial role in
managing data for the employer. In the past the DBA job has required sharp technical skills along with
management ability. (Shelly, Cashman, Waggoner 1992). However, the arrival on the scene of the
relational database along with the rapidly changing technology has modified the database
administrator s role. This has required organizations to vary the way of handling database
management. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Sipolt 1995). The traditional database administrator s strength is in creating the physical design of the
database. The procedural database administrator is an expert in accessing data. Procedural DBAs are
responsible for procedural logic support, application code reviews, access path review and analysis,
SQL rewrites, debugging, and analysis to assure optimal execution. (Mullins 1995)
Along with the changing job description, administrators are facing increased demands from the
corporations for which they work. Database administrators are responsible for staff cost control,
hardware, software, and are becoming increasingly responsible for the work quality and response time
of their staff.
(Riggsbee 1995)
The job modifications are not the only change in this industry. Database administrators received a
substantial increase in their wages in 1995. The average earnings for a DBA are now $52,572
according to the 1995 survey source.
However, salaries differ according to the specific region of the country in which one resides. The mid
level database administrator in San Francisco earns
$55,000 to $65,000, substantially more than our survey states. However, Salt
Lake City database administrator s salary fell between $30,000 to $35,000.
Another area of salaries on the rise is the health care profession. Previously lower end on the pay
scale, hospital pay is on the rise and currently

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
The seventh commandment of the Ten Commandments states Thou shalt not commit adultery.
(Exodus 20:14).
Adultery, according to the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary, is voluntary sexual intercourse
between a married man and someone other than his wife or between a married woman and someone
other than her husband. Some people may think that adultery is only an occurrence in the 21st century,
but it also occurred frequently in the 1600s as well. For example, in The Scarlet Letter, written by
Nathaniel Hawthorne, a novel that was set in the 17th century tells the story of Hester Prynne who was
convicted of adultery with a man named Reverend Dimmesdale. Even though adultery seems to be the
most important theme throughout the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These literary elements help make the novel into one of the most profound written pieces of literature
of its time.
The author of The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne, was born into a Puritan family, as was Hester
Prynne, in the city of Salem Massachusetts on July 4, 1804. Hawthorne never fully had a male head
figure in his life because at the age of four, Hawthorne s father died in Surinam. His dad worked full
time as a ship captain. One of Hawthorne s fore fathers was a judge in the Salem Witch Trials.
Hawthorne shunned his family because of their involvement in the Salem Witch Trials by adding the
w in what should have been his last name, Hathorne. Adding the w characterizes the relationship
between Hester and the letter A . Hester knew that she could not run away from the past, but
Hawthorne let this problem torment him for the rest of his life. Hawthorne, for the majority of his
adult life, had to deal with the self imposed guilt of shunning his own family, which he reflected in the
characters of Reverend Dimmesdale, and Robert Chillingworth. Hawthorne came across the files of
Hester Prynne while working as a surveyor at the Salem Custom House. These files triggered
Hawthorne to write The Scarlet Letter. The years following the publication of The Scarlet Letter were
probably the happiest years of his life. At one

Sears Core Competencies Examined
All companies have core competencies that they use to differentiate their company, product, or service
from the competition, Sears is no exception. Also, it is common for a company s core competencies to
change, as their industry progresses through phases and shifts its emphasis between product and
process innovations (Regis University, 2011), Sears is no exception. Yet, when a company s core
competencies become misaligned and no longer supports their strategic intent the business is in danger
of becoming obsolete (Regis University, 2011), as their customers no longer perceive the unique

By 1895, Sears s mail order business was gaining market acceptance and the Sears catalog expanded
to 532 items consisting of soup to nuts products for their customers (Sears Archive, 2012), supporting
the theory that early innovators do not have a restriction on what they bring to market (Innovation
Zen, 2006). Sears s core competencies are innovation, selling, advertising, and merchandising (Sears
Archive, 2012).
By 1906 Sears was operating the largest mail order plant in the world, but that necessitated that the
company s focus shift from design dominance to products and process. Sears has entered the
transitional stage of the Abernathy Utterback Model. Sears is tasked with the need to handle mass
orders economically and efficiently, and develops the time scheduling system , which brings chaos to
the mail order industry and defines a significant core competence (Sears Archive, 2012). Around the
same time, Sears s customers are shifting their focus to quality, which drives the need to replace the
fancy Sears catalog with a factual based catalog. Sears s core competencies are innovation, mail order
process, quality products, perceived value, and factual based advertisement (catalog).
By 1920, the landscape is changing from rural dwellers to city dwellers and people living in cities
outnumber rural dwellers for the first time. Sears has emerged as the dominant design of mail order for
both rural and city dwellers, but increasing competition from

Comparison of Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and Java Beans
Introduction Starting back in the early 1990 s with the introduction of Java to the computer scene there
has been many updates and advances in how languages interact with web based programs. In this
paper we are going to highlight several areas of several different Java flavors. The flavors we are
addressing are Java, JavaScript, Java Applets and JavaBeans. We will discuss their history, features,
usage and syntax and finally follow up with a chart providing a comparison of the different Java
architectures.

JavaScript was commonly used to manipulate images and document contents. There were early issues
with JavaScript; security flaws, lack of development tools and often criticized for being too unlike
Java, or too much like Perl. (Champeon, 2001) However, JavaScript took on a life all its own and in
some circles was written off due to its simpleness, its security flaws and to some extent because it
could only be tested within the browser environment.
A Java Applet is a small program written in Java, which can be downloaded to any computer. The
applet is usually embedded in an HTML page on a Web site and can be executed from within a
browser. JavaSoft, the current name of the company which oversees the development of the Java
language, was founded in January of 1996, and a few months later released the Java Development Kit
(JDK) version 1.0. (Youmans, 1997) The concept of an applet came out of the creation on the Java
language. It enabled users to produce programs named applets which could be transmitted and run
over the Internet, a somewhat different end product from what was originally envisioned back at the
beginning of the decade. (Youmans, 1997) Java Applets came about as a requirement for adding
functionalities to HTML documents,

The Effects Of Texting On Children s Children
In the era of technology, a large number of people text by mobile phone every day. Gradually, the
telephone has been adapted to the needs of society and people also are more dependent on the
telephone. In fact, the standing of telephone was already changed from a technological tool to a social
tool (Marilyn, 2005). Texting is such an important communicate channel for teenagers, but what does
texting mean exactly? Texting is an action which describes not using proper English grammar to send
messages. Data suggest, 63% of all teens said they exchange text messages with other people every
day. Until today, this trend is still continue developing. The most teenagers all said they cannot leave
text in lives (Kuehn, 2012), does it affect school aged children in literacy? Absolutely yes. Literacy
includes writing and reading two different aspects, so the different aspects which impacts teenagers
are different. Therefore, texting affected teenagers in different four aspects and the analysis for reasons
will be showed in the following content. Firstly, writing format which teenagers normally use all is
neither formal nor standard and it has a great impact for them on writing quality. The informal writing
format include textisms, not observe grammatical, not observe syntactic rules and misuse punctuation.
Textisms, is one of main part of them. Textisms is a word or abbreviation typically used in a text
message. For example, cent represent can t ; CU represent see you ; 2night

Persuasive Research Papers On Immigration
By changing the way the United States accepts non us citizens, our new president in a sense is creating
a standard for our country. That the country should choose immigrants based on merit, skill, and
proficiency. Having the standard for our country is great because we would only have the best enter,
slowing the nation s massive demographic change. Within a few years immigration is set to break all
historical records and our President is trying to keep immigration levels with the norms. (Hing, 2017)
School districts in Arizona are segregated for not knowing English and it is hurting them socially and
academically. The EDL students that take those 4 hour classes to learn English may or may not be
legal in the country but having them shunned in public schools is not acceptable. The EDL students do
not talk to English speaking students, so there is no room for improvement. Our President Donald
Trump wants to put a standard on the incoming immigrants based on their skill set. And with new
bilingual programs in places like Spain and India, incoming immigrants may actually stand up to the
new standard implicated by the president. Many citizen born children are facing the experience of
parental deportation. The immediate consequences of losing a parent through deportation is change in

How Is Curley Presented In Of Mice And Men
How far can pettiness push a person? In Of Mice and Men, Curley is early on discovered to be one of
the main antagonist of the story because of his hostile attitude. Curley is simply a bad egg who forever
changes the other characters lives, maybe even for the worst. John Steinbeck includes the antagonistic
character of Curley to serve as a classic bully who shows the petty side of society. Steinbeck uses both
direct and indirect characterization to show that Curley is a combative type of person. Curley parades
his combative nature when he readily pulverizes sweet Lenny. Curley slashed at Lenny with his left,
and then same down on his nose with a right. Lenny gave a cry of terror. (Steinbeck 63). This

Kind of like he s mad at them because he ain t a big guy. You seen little guys like that, ain t you?
Always scrappy? (Steinbeck 26). Curley is taking something so trivial as height, and letting it control
his feelings. Another example of Curley s pettiness is his reaction to when his wife died. Slim nodded.
We might, he said. If we could keep Curley in, we might. But Curley s gonna want to shoot him.
Curley is still mad about his hand. An s pose they lock him up an strap him down and put him in a

incident. Curley is so petty that he is willing to take a man s life over an insignificant

The And Design Practices By Martin Heidegger
When is Architecture Architecture?
Only if we are capable of dwelling, only then can we build. This claim was made by German
philosopher Martin Heidegger in his lecture Building Dwelling Thinking . In the lecture Heidegger
goes beyond architectural and design practices by referring building not only in architectural
construction, but to the whole range of human productive activity. When thinking about dwelling it is
usually connected to buildings. The goal of a building is to allow one to dwell, but not all buildings
are in the domain of dwelling. Christian Nordberg Schulz describes place as that which in we dwell,
within which we are at home. The truck driver is at home on the highway, but he does not have his
accommodations there; the working woman is at home in her office, but does not have her dwelling
place there. Dwelling is not only limited to the dwelling place. Schulz stated that dwelling as being in
a harmonious relationship with one s surrounding environment. He believes that dwelling is based in
the idea that our dwelling in place grants us an identity and a meaning that we would otherwise lack.
Thus, in order to dwell in a place one must personally connect with that place which leads us to
exclude others from that place as a means to affirm that identity. Many critics claim that if place is an
essentially relative concept based on a personal sense of belonging then dwelling must be too.
In terms of these theories on dwelling; architecture and

Coastal Ecosystem Response Paper
Coastal marine ecosystems are a very important part of the coastal economy as well as the natural
ecology. Not only do coastal systems provide socioeconomic benefits such as tourism and aesthetics,
but also several ecosystem services. The ecosystem services provided by coast environments include
coastal erosion, storm protection, recreational or commercial fishing, carbon sequestration and
filtration (Wingard and Lorenz, 2014). Unfortunately, these services have been impacted by pressures
such as altered flow of freshwater runoff, sea level rise (which in turn also increases the frequency and
intensity of storms) and man made channels (Wingard and Lorenz, 2014). Another major factor that

According to Cendrero and Fischer (1997), each indicator receives a value between 0 and 1 as well as
a weighing factor. The weight for each indicator is multiplied to the value of each indicator and then
these numbers are combine to get a total score. Cendrero and Fischer (1997) then developed a
conservation development diagram that would map the values from the total combination and could
determine areas in need of conservation as well as areas that could potentially developed. On the other
hand, Barbosa de Araujo and da Costa (2008) developed a system where sixty parameters are taken

The Ungoing Algerian War Fought between France and the...
Algerian War The Algerian War is an ongoing war being fought between the state of France and
Algerian independence movements. Background In 1830 the French invaded and captured Algiers, the
invasion resulting in considerable bloodshed. Between 1830 and 1872 the indigenous Algerian
population declined by a third due to a combination of violence and disease epidemics. French policy
was predicated on civilizing the country and Algeria s social fabric suffered during the occupation.
Since 1848 the French have administered Algeria as an integral part and département of the nation.
Being one of France s longest held overseas territories, thousands of European immigrants arrived in
Algeria and came to be known as the Pied Noirs. These European settlers benefited from the French
government s confiscation of communal land from indigenous Algerians and the application of
modern farming techniques exponentially increased the agricultural output. With the Algerian
nationalist movement gaining momentum, in March 1943, Algerian leader Mahmoud Abbas presented
the French with the Manifesto of the Algerian People , demanding an Algerian constitution
guaranteeing immediate political participation and legal equality for Muslims. In 1944 the French
formulated a reforms based on the Viollette Plan of 1936 which granted French citizenship to certain
categories of meritorious Algerian Muslims. On May 8, 1945, while France celebrated Victory in

The Pathophysiology Of Congestive Heart Failure
The Circulatory system is responsible for the transport and delivery of essential nutrients and
molecules required for proper cellular function including oxygen, proteins, and much more
(Silverthorn, 2013). The circulatory system also carries waste products to be excreted by the body by
other systems such as the urinary and respiratory system (Silverthorn, 2013). The main organ in the

The heart is able to do this thanks to the specialized cardiac muscle it contains. The contraction of the
heart displays excitatory contraction coupling (EC coupling) similar to skeletal muscles except the
action potential in the heart originates spontaneously at the peace maker of the heart (Silverthorn,
2013). Contraction happens when a rapid depolarization occurs due to the influx and opening of
sodium voltage gated channels to raise the membrane potential toward the threshold value causing a
firing of action potential. The conduction and cardiac cycle starts at a resting distol state for both
ventricles and atriums and is initiated with the depolarization at the SA node (Silverthorn, 2013). This
causes an action potential which moves rapidly towards the AV node where the signal gets slowed
down (Silverthorn, 2013).When the signal reaches this point it causes a contraction/systole stage of
the right and left atriums. This causes blood to be pumped into the ventricles through the AV valves
(Silverthorn, 2013). The action potential then travels to the ventricles down the bundle branches out
towards the Purkinje fibers (Silverthorn, 2013). In terms of the cardiac cycle an isovolumetric
contraction occurs during the pause of the signal at the AV node allowing the AV valves to close,
followed by ventricular systole where the ventricles expel blood into circulation (Silverthorn, 2013).
The final stage in the cardiac cycle occurs between stimulations of action potential when the ventricles
and atriums are in diastole and the chambers fill with blood once again (Silverthorn,

U.s. Foreign Policy Of Containment
George Kennan George Kennan was a major factor in the U.S. foreign policy of containment, which

Communism throughout other countries, so in order to provide a counterforce and protect American

A Modern Equivalent Of Nimrod s Tower
The next clause says, a god his fathers never knew . This god will accomplish what Nimrod tried and
failed to do; that others previously had just imagined. This god will be a newly created wedding
between the modern world s technological ingenuity and the demonic realm. The Pyramid s Capstone
is simply a modern equivalent of Nimrod s Tower. The devil has tried since the beginning of man to
put this in place. That is why you see so many men in history such as Nero and Hitler, who are types
of antichrists, and why John, the beloved wrote, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that Antichrist
is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared (1 John 2:18). This time, God will allow these
powers to unite. Satan is the god of this worldly system and humanism is its philosophy. Humanist
mankind will unite with Satan s fallen angels and together they will do battle with God and his holy
ones , both holy angels and redeemed mankind.
This plan goes all the way back to when the serpent seduced Eve the Garden of Eden. He questioned
what God said, putting doubts in Eve s mind saying, Did God say...? The serpent went on to say, You
surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you
will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:5). Satan in the form of the serpent questioned
God s integrity and promised enlightenment to Eve; that her eyes would be opened. This is the lie.

Gang Violence And The United States
Gangs have been a part of American culture in the United States since the early 19th century when
immigrant youth organized themselves into street gangs as a means of urban and economic survival.
Today, gang violence has reached an almost catastrophic level in the United States. Criminal street
gangs have become one of the most serious crime problems in California. Gang violence accounts for
one of the largest personal threats to public safety for nearly all the cities in this state. Salinas,
California is a relatively small Central Coast agricultural town with a population of just over 150,000.
The City of Salinas has been dealing with gang and youth violence for over 50 years. Salinas gang
homicide victims are among the youngest in the state. Over the past few years, youth gang
involvement in Salinas has reached a critical level and gang related homicides are at an all time high.
Youth gang violence is a social problem that not only affects the individual, but the community as a
whole. While there has been an increase of gang related issues lately, it is certainly not an unfamiliar
or current problem for Salinas. The violent crime associated with organized street gangs has a well
recognized and extensive history in the Salinas Valley. Youth are at the heart of gang violence as both
perpetrators and victims. A recent study concluded that Monterey County ranked number one in
homicide victimization for youth between the ages of 10 24 in California for the years 2009 and

With the lessons learned in these areas, Galula returned to France in 1956, the year in which the
country was immersed in the Algerian war, which led him to request a command therein. It was here
that Galula implemented for the first time their knowledge of COIN.
Galula theory is based on the support of the population, an element that is recovered in the doctrine
developed by Petraeus. This is divided between an active minority supporting the insurgency, an
active minority who would be willing to support the force or forces that promote measures COIN, and
finally, a large majority of the population passive (FM 3 24, 2006: 1 20). The aim of COIN operations
would therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so that this in

measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the
population of these groups, in order to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests
of the COIN. This will require removing the alleged political organization that insurgent groups have
developed in that area, and replace it forces an interim basis to ensure the necessary services in the
area, and thus add up support within the local population.

Minors and the Death Penalty
A. Should the death penalty be given to minors? The two groups against this issue, are the religious

groups believe adolescents are less developed than adults and should not be held to the same
standards. . The opposing side, held mostly by state officials, feel if they are old enough to commit the

acknowledged age as a mitigating factor in death sentencing, but, in an opinion written by Justice
Antonin Scalia, said the national climate didn t rule out the death penalty simply because of the age of

G. The Kantian view of death penalty is a retributive view that sees the criminal as a parasite who has
accepted the benefits of a legal system while refusing to pay the price of self restraint. Such a person
owes the law abiding a debt for he has gained an unfair advantage over them. Punishment is the means
of exacting the debt (in kind) and is a demand for justice the restoration of a condition of equality
between the law breaker and society. Just punishment is binding and not to be mitigated by any
utilitarian consideration. Kant also believes in blood guilt and the necessity for cleansing criminal
actions.

agree with if they do the crime, they can do the time, but at the same time they are just little kids and

Steinbeck, in the novel, The Grapes of Wrath, portrays that the hardships and struggles the migrants

Rise of US to power during the 20th century Essay
The U.S. Rise
There were many factors that contributed to the United States rise and roles as a world power during
the early 20th century. Presidential policies during this time period were the foundation of the U.S. s
role as a world power. The conflict in the Philippines was evidence of the U.S. s ability to crush
uprising and control a territory. The Spanish American War demonstrates the U.S. s role as a world

After years of delayed independence the U.S. finally granted the Phillipines independence on July 4,

Although President McKinley tried to avoid a war with Spain it seemed to be inevitable. The trouble
began with journalism exploiting Spanish atrocities. Then, a battleship blew up and was falsely
identified as a Spanish attack. The U.S. first took hold of a Spanish colony (the Philippines) which it
later used as a stepping stone to trade with other countries. Then, they fought battles in Cuba (another
Spanish colony) and conquered that along with Puerto Rico. By winning the Spanish American War
the U.S. gained a position as an imperialist country.
After much bloodshed the United States secured it s position as an imperialist and world power.
Presidents such as Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson came under power and called for expansion and
imperialism all over the globe. The United States choice of action in the Philippines was just one
example of it s imperialistic characteristics. The Spanish American War brought a lot of power to the
United States. During the early 20th century the United States of America became and stayed an
imperialist power.

Assessing The Effect Of A New Teaching Approach
Part B. Descriptive statistics: assessing the effects of a new teaching approach
1. The main goal of the analysis being conducted is to assess whether the new curriculum on basic
electricity in basic science yields better achievement outcomes compared to the existing curriculum,
which is a more traditional teaching approach, for elementary school students in both urban and
suburban schools. In doing this analysis some questions that will be key to this study is to reveal if this
new curriculum is beneficial when compared to the traditional teaching approach. Indeed, some
students are randomly assigned to both the new curriculum and to the traditional teaching approach.
As a result, through this randomization biases will be kept from occurring. This investigation is
important because it will be determined what yielded better results through focusing on examining
differences in the posttest variable for children who did or did not experience the new curriculum.
2. After downloading the data file (Assignment 1.dta) and reading it on Stata, I was allowed to see that
there were some values that were missing: five to be exact. In other words, examining the ids I was

The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Essay
Technology has brought many advantageous opportunities to the music industry in the area of
production and distribution. Besides popular and valuable instruments such as the electric guitar and
the synthesizer, technology has brought us new production equipment such as high fidelity
microphones, re mastering equipment and CD ROMs that provide us with a crystal clear sound of the
recording. The development of these equipment has allowed the audience to experience a higher
quality of sound coming from both live concerts and recordings.
Easiness of transportation that came along with the technological developments in the sector, has
allowed the record labels to distribute music all around the world. During the 1950s turbojet engines
were cleared for civilian use, and with new civil jet engine cargo aircraft distribution of almost any
item became easier and faster than ever before. The evolution of the computer and the Internet was
also a great distribution advantage for the music industry and should not be underestimated. New
sound formats, such as the MP3, have made music distribution easier. Companies could now provide
selling licenses to companies that would allow users to download certain songs from the Internet at a
very high speed. The music industry also got many opportunities for advertisements since they were
now not limited to billboards, TV and radio. Many companies can now promote their records by
playing a preview for the user, on certain websites.

Researched Literary Argument on Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman
Death of a Salesman by the author Arthur Miller revolves around one family and the troubles they are
facing due to growing older and becoming senile. Willy Loman was born on May 13, 1889, and in
1949 when the story is set, he was 60, this is during post WW1 America, this was a different time with
different social cues and norms that will be evident throughout the story. Willy s ambition is to take
part in the American dream and strike it rich by the sweat of his own brow. The kind of success Willy
is looking for is not merely being able to provide for his family but having people know who he was
what he was about and what a great character he had. Once Willy starts lacking the success he is used
to he becomes disconnected with the world and this is when his senile tendencies start to show these
things hint at a deeper medical problem; things like having flashbacks to when he was happy and
satisfied with his performance and the still unsquandered potential of his progeny.
At a certain point in life once you ve been beaten down and stepped on you will reach rock bottom,
although not enjoyable, once there the only progression is an improvement to your current situation.
Willy has a hard time facing the music and accepting what is inevitable. this manifests itself in the
story through willy s inability to stay grounded in what s happening in the current moment, his mind

If one can understand the role that methods of communication play in shaping culture and discourse, one can better understand how communication impacts the development and subsequent spread of culture and knowledge. Therefore, constructing an understanding of human epistemology requires an analysis of the prevalent mediums of communication within society. Postman argues that the unique nature of each form of communication controls, ...what kind of content can issue from such forms. 1 (p. 6) He gives the example of smoke signals utilized by Native Americans. The telegraph created a culture in which rapid, readily replaced information is desirable; and it is this shift in discourse that has created the cultural idea that intelligence is, ...meant knowing of lots of things, not knowing about them. 7 (p. 70) Question IV Postman begins his analysis of the written word by giving a historical context of typography within America. • 7. Imagery In Living Like Weasels By Annie Dillard In Living like Weasels , author Annie Dillard uses rhetorical devices to convey that life would be better lived solely in a physical capacity, governed by necessity , executed by instinct. Through Dillard s use of descriptive imagery, indulging her audience, radical comparisons of nature and civilization and anecdotal evidence, this concept is ultimately conveyed. Incontrovertibly, one of the first things one may notice upon reading the work, is the use of highly explicit imagery connecting her thoughts and ideologies. With these techniques, her whole impression of the essay establishes an adversary relationship between the natural world and the human world. In summary, the author imposes that with weasels, much more freedom is granted through instinctual living, rather than as humans, who live with choices. Through her vivid and truly descriptive imagery, one may see emphasize and glorification to the way of life these little creatures live. Dillard writes I think I retrieved my brain from the weasel s brain, from this hyperbole, she greatly induces her extreme and genuine fascination with these weasels. This device ultimately emphasizes the central idea that we as humans would be better off living and thinking like weasels. These literary elements help make the novel into one of the most profound written pieces of literature of its time. The author of The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne, was born into a Puritan family, as was Hester Prynne, in the city of Salem Massachusetts on July 4, 1804. Hawthorne never fully had a male head figure in his life because at the age of four, Hawthorne s father died in Surinam. His dad worked full time as a ship captain. One of Hawthorne s fore fathers was a judge in the Salem Witch Trials. Hawthorne shunned his family because of their involvement in the Salem Witch Trials by adding the w in what should have been his last name, Hathorne. Adding the w characterizes the relationship between Hester and the letter A . Hester knew that she could not run away from the past, but Hawthorne let this problem torment him for the rest of his life. Hawthorne, for the majority of his adult life, had to deal with the self imposed guilt of shunning his own family, which he reflected in the characters of Reverend Dimmesdale, and Robert Chillingworth. Hawthorne came across the files of Hester Prynne while working as a surveyor at the Salem Custom House. These files triggered Hawthorne to write The Scarlet Letter. • 19. The And Design Practices By Martin Heidegger When is Architecture Architecture? Only if we are capable of dwelling, only then can we build. This claim was made by German philosopher Martin Heidegger in his lecture Building Dwelling Thinking . In the lecture Heidegger goes beyond architectural and design practices by referring building not only in architectural construction, but to the whole range of human productive activity. When thinking about dwelling it is usually connected to buildings. The goal of a building is to allow one to dwell, but not all buildings are in the domain of dwelling. Christian Nordberg Schulz describes place as that which in we dwell, within which we are at home. The truck driver is at home on the highway, but he does not have his accommodations there; the working woman is at home in her office, but does not have her dwelling place there. Dwelling is not only limited to the dwelling place. Schulz stated that dwelling as being in a harmonious relationship with one s surrounding environment. He believes that dwelling is based in the idea that our dwelling in place grants us an identity and a meaning that we would otherwise lack. Thus, in order to dwell in a place one must personally connect with that place which leads us to exclude others from that place as a means to affirm that identity. Contraction happens when a rapid depolarization occurs due to the influx and opening of sodium voltage gated channels to raise the membrane potential toward the threshold value causing a firing of action potential. The conduction and cardiac cycle starts at a resting distol state for both ventricles and atriums and is initiated with the depolarization at the SA node (Silverthorn, 2013). This causes an action potential which moves rapidly towards the AV node where the signal gets slowed down (Silverthorn, 2013).When the signal reaches this point it causes a contraction/systole stage of the right and left atriums. This god will accomplish what Nimrod tried and failed to do; that others previously had just imagined. This god will be a newly created wedding between the modern world s technological ingenuity and the demonic realm. The Pyramid s Capstone is simply a modern equivalent of Nimrod s Tower. The devil has tried since the beginning of man to put this in place. That is why you see so many men in history such as Nero and Hitler, who are types of antichrists, and why John, the beloved wrote, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared (1 John 2:18). This time, God will allow these powers to unite. Satan is the god of this worldly system and humanism is its philosophy. Humanist mankind will unite with Satan s fallen angels and together they will do battle with God and his holy ones , both holy angels and redeemed mankind. This plan goes all the way back to when the serpent seduced Eve the Garden of Eden. He questioned what God said, putting doubts in Eve s mind saying, Did God say...? The serpent went on to say, You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:5). Satan in the form of the serpent questioned God s integrity and promised enlightenment to Eve; that her eyes would be opened. This is the lie. This is the same lie referenced in 2 ... Youth gang violence is a social problem that not only affects the individual, but the community as a whole. While there has been an increase of gang related issues lately, it is certainly not an unfamiliar or current problem for Salinas. The violent crime associated with organized street gangs has a well recognized and extensive history in the Salinas Valley. Youth are at the heart of gang violence as both perpetrators and victims. This is divided between an active minority supporting the insurgency, an active minority who would be willing to support the force or forces that promote measures COIN, and finally, a large majority of the population passive (FM 3 24, 2006: 1 20). The aim of COIN operations would therefore gain the support of the active minority that is potentially in their favour, so that this in turn get mobilized the passive majority of the population against the insurgent group. Besides military measures to reduce and eliminate the insurgent forces, for the author it is essential to isolate the population of these groups, in order to avoid a possible mobilization of the same against the interests of the COIN.
