Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay
INTRODUCTION
Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed
not only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence,
deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the
society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The
novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the
women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family
problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their
family. Literature for her is not a means of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She
prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and
physical world. In fact, her real concern is the thorough investigation of human psyche, inner
climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life of her characters. Her main engagement is to
study human existence and human predicament, her exploration being a quest for self. Anita s
main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her protagonists at some crucial juncture of
their lives.
The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. In
Desai s novels, the love encounters explode into marital disputes as the result of devastating post
marriage

Ambulatory Care Case Study
The process of strategic planning is to develop a viable strategy that can expand clinical services
and attract top residents, and fellows to the faculty. In creating such a plan Mt. Sinai s department
of ambulatory care expresses where it wants to be in the future with a plan of action. Once the
general hospital and the department reach some sort of a consensus on its long terms goals a plan
of action can be developed and launch. Creating sustained viability is the basis of all personal

Philippines Imperialization
The independence of the Philippines brought a new hope to the citizens that they would finally be
able to govern themselves. Imperialization from the Spanish in the 1500 s, followed by U.S. control
up until the end of World War II left the country hungry for economic resources and trustworthy
leaders. Even with independence from the United States, they were unable to escape from unethical,
elite leaders that were favored by the US government. Numerous citizens and nationalist leaders
attempted to revive the economy multiple times, yet there was always some way it would fail.
Although there were notable benefits in the aftermath of their independence, such as better
commerce and strong leaders who brought economic progress, overall its impacts... Show more

Often, the social order for most imperialized countries are for the benefit of the colonizing country
rather than the people themselves (Scipes). This held true for the Philippines, as their economy was
mostly controlled by the US. In another article, author Kathleen Weekley claims that, the American
administration tried to eradicate Filipino nationalism when it threatened US interests . By ignoring
nationalist pleas for economic reform, they treated the Philippines differently than other postwar
Asian countries; they implemented [reforms] on Japan, Korea and Taiwan, (Weekley) while putting
no effort on the Philippines. Even after their independence, the United States continued to maintain
a close relationship with the Philippine government. However, when they were in need of
resources and support post World War Two, the American government pursued plans driven for
their own self benefit. They were inexperienced with the way of the Philippines and also thad little
knowledge of it. By controlling an unfamiliar country, elites, high class members of the
government, were able to take over and abuse the power. With this abuse of power the elites wasted
the nation s capital on luxury imports and and pushed the Philippines further into economic

Export And Demand Of Goods From Other Countries
For years upon years, countries have been requesting for other countries for supplies that they do
not have for themselves. The countries would demand for that item and in return the other country
would supply it for them. They would trade products in and out of their countries due to a term
known as supply and demand. The goods and services that a country supplies and demands depends
on the country and what they have. Since not every country has the same needs or has the same
resources, there is a trade between countries at times. Comparing the countries and their supply and
demands of imports and exports, the top countries for each have their reasons to why they re at the
top, whether it be because they have less government restrictions... Show more content on

Some countries might supply, the amount of goods that a market can produce, and demand, the
amount of goods the consumers are willing to buy, more than others, but they are still supplying
and demanding something out of someone else. The country could demand something from its
own citizens and the citizens would supply it, but it could be applied to an even bigger
audience. A country could demand something from another country and in result, the other
country would supply the demand to either keep its friendship with the other country, or to keep
its reliance for when something is needed. Or the countries could do a simple trade of supplies
they have that the countries demand. In result to supply and demand between countries, it
creates utility, total satisfaction received from consuming a goods or service. Demand shows
how much of a product a consumer is willing and able to consume, based on the price at a certain
time period. The law of demand is, when prices are to fall, the quantity of the product that
consumers want begins to rise. In simpler forms, when the price to an item drops, consumers are
willing to buy more because they are cheaper and more affordable, more people are willing and
able to buy the item. If it was to be the opposite, where the price was to increase, the demand for
the product would decrease due to the price being more expensive. When prices are decreased, the
quantity is increased, which gives the law of demand an inverse

How to Handle Conflict
How to Handle Conflict by Andrew E. Schwartz
For many of us, every day is a struggle to avoid conflict. Yet avoidance is practically impossible
since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own.
Differences of opinion, competitive zeal, and misinterpretations, among other factors, can all
generate ill feelings between co workers within an organization. While we can t avoid conflict, we
can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts
that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them.
As a manager, you must approach every conflict as an opportunity to improve employee
relationships, to lessen tension in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you have identified a conflict, you must plan a course of action. Decide whether the conflict
is important enough to confront the conflicting parties. Make careful assessments of both the
conflict and the conflict s impact on the individuals and the organization. The said conflict could
just be an intense brainstorming session (which you must not short circuit).
If you deem confrontation is necessary, however, confront the parties separately. Confront them in a
neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be
easily and quickly achieved now.
During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. After the confrontation, the
manager needs to reflect on the discussion and reach an objective solution for both parties to agree
upon. There will be times when the parties will not agree: in this case, use your own judgment.
Your primary objective is to find a solution. The manager dips into his resources and either reduces
or eliminates the conflict. To accomplish this you need to elicit enough information to understand
each employees member s opinion and to define the problem in mutual terms.
Once a solution is implemented, you must make regular checks on the parties to insure that their
agreements are being kept. If the process is successful, both parties need to be attempting to work
the situation out. If not, confrontation must

The Diary Of A Young Girl
Annelies Maie Frank was a writer and a diarist. She was one of the most discussed Jewish victims
of the Holocaust. Frank had an impact on the world by providing future generations with a direct
testimony from a seemingly ordinary girl who became one of millions to be pointlessly murdered
because of their ethnicity. In 1947 the diary and thoughts of an innocent thirteen year old female
were published; but the thoughts weren t so every day, they were the thoughts of Anne Frank. Frank
s diary the diary of a Young Girl, documents her experiences hiding during time Germany
occupied the Netherlands in WWII. Despite the circumstances for Jewish people in the
Netherlands, Anne s interest are quiet typical for a young adolescent girl. One of Frank s first
diary entries starts off with her sating that she hopes that she can reveal everything in it, because
she feels she never had someone to confide in. In writing her diary, Anne Frank was in a unique
position to make the world understand what it was like to live a life of hiding. Having to hide her
existence in exchange for a slight chance for survival during the Nazi regime.
For Anne s thirteenth birthday she received an autographed book from her father Otto, which she
then turned into her world famous diary. Although many of her early entries relate to the mundane
aspects of her life, Frank also discusses some of the changes that had taken place in the Netherlands
since the German occupation. Anne, like every other Jew, was living

Hills Like White Elephant And Story Of An Hour
Heart Trouble at the Train Station
Chaeme Vogue
Details are what the world is made of, think of the oceans, composed by tiny drops of water.
Never underestimate the power of place and image, even when limited. While both Story of an
Hour by Kate Chopin, and Hills like White Elephants , by Ernest Hemingway have different
settings, both effectively use setting to reveal character and acts as a symbol within the story.
The stories are of two females, Louis Mallard for Hour, in her two story house, spring time is
here, rain is in the air, and death hangs in the atmosphere. Jig on the other hand from Hills, is in the
heat of a foreign country called Spain at a train station with an American, having a little chat about

For Louis it is the start of spring, a new life with rain to cleanse and purify the air and patches of
blue sky, the gloomy clouds parting with the end of winter, Bentley s death. Marriage was a
cloudy shadow over her happiness but now the horizon of her life is clearing. Jig also has a
cloud in her life; the American man is casting a shadow over the field of grain, her baby. The
fertile field is along the river bank, her opportunity, and the mountains on the otherwise of that is
her pregnancy. However there is also a tree in her way that she looks through to the mountains.
This tree is deep rooted misogyny. Dictating what she does with her life. In one sense it is her won

Different Forms Of Division Of Labor By Emile Durkheim
Emile Durkheim, born in 1858 was an eminent proponent of Sociology from France, considered
to be one of the greatest in his field alongside Karl Marx and Max Weber. Durkheim aimed to
study society taking an evolutionary approach, keeping in mind that society is composed of
individuals. However, it was not essentially the aggregate sum of each individual s behavior,
actions and thoughts. Durkheim endeavored to understand transformation of society, from
traditional to modern, where solidarity changes from mechanical to organic because of the
phenomenon of division of labour . In this essay I will aim to explain first, how organic solidarity
came to existence because of increasing division of labour in society. To begin with I will take a
peek... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the same standards it also contains fallacies which limit its appeal in contemporary world.
Firstly, Durkheim s account of organic solidarity seems positivist in that the division of labor does
not have negative effects at all. With great convenience Durkheim propagates the conditions
responsible for smooth functioning of organized societies in some idyllic place. To elaborate more
on this point, the society does not have the self regulating quality as implied by organic solidarity.
Durkheim s principle assumption was that collective conscience and individual conscience coupled
with the State would lead to organic solidarity. Although Durkheim tries to take account of this
nature of society through anomic division of labor yet his viewpoint on evils of unregulated
capitalism, commercial and industrial crises, class conflict, meaninglessness, alienated labor etc.
was very uncritical in nature. This observation was further strengthened when in his later works he
gradually parted away with evolutionary optimism which underpinned the mechanical, self
regulating conception of division of labor. Secondly, Durkheim does not seem to be concerned
about the ill effects of division of labor . On one hand mutual interdependence creates solidarity
which holds together societies, on the other in modern societies one is not able to sustain without
depending

My Career As A Career
First starting this class I didn t know what exactly what I wanted to do with a career. I was
between two careers trying to figure out what would be best for me. The CIT career would be
nice to learn something entirely new and at the same time tie it in with business some how. The
problem I was having is trying to figure out what I was going to do with it. Doing the first set of
activities in this class allowed me to learn what I really wanted in a job and what I can do with out.
My careermust allow me freedom to choose what I wantto do to be able to create what I want. My
career must allow me to choose my own hours. Don t get me wrong that I will only work a little
because I am going to put in hours around the clock. What I mean with flexible hours is that if
something comes up I will be able to work around it. It must also allow me to show leadership
and call shot. Things that aren t so important but still hold value is that my job should allow me
not to work on Sunday. If I have to once in a while because there is no way around it, that is
understandable. My job should allow me to come home for dinner most nights and be with my
family. It could be not stressful but I deal with stress good and don t mind it. It could also be not
dealing with so many angry people but I can handle them pretty will. The first option that I choose
for my career list is computer networking architect. This option really interested me because for my

Republic Government Essay
The best government is a Republic government. A Republic government is also known as a
direct democracy. It is very effective and works smoothly. The people are big part of the
government, because they vote on a leader to represent them and make decisions for them. This
way of democracy is amazing because of how the people are such a big part of it. Another
interesting fact is that the first Republic was the Roman Republic. The Roman Republic was an
impressive system that lasted for 500 years. It was impressive because it had three branches, the
Magistrates, the Senate, and the Assemblies and Tribunes. The Magistrates were elected officials
who enforced laws and judged cases. The Senate are wealthy citizens who helped pass laws and

: Laccase catalyses the oxidation of phenols by one electron oxidation, consuming molecular
oxygen. The phenolic compounds form phenoxy radicals that turn into quinone intermediates in the
second stage of oxidation. These quinones are very reactive and undergo non enzymatic radical
coupling reaction to form covalent bonds involving polymerisation or cross linking of phenolic
monomers. Laccase from ascomycete Myceliophthora thermophila was able to oxidize phenolic
compounds such as catechol and catechin and mediate their attachment to denim surfaces. When
catechol was oxidised by laccase in situ at the surface of the denim fabrics, a brown overdyed
surface was obtained due to polymer deposition. Process optimization showed that 4 units per

The Gilded Six Bits Response
1.The story is written as a single continuous narrative, but the events take place over a long period
of time. Estimate how much time actually passes between the beginning of the story and end.
I would say that the story had to take place probably between nine to ten months. I arrived at this
conclusion from information given in the story. Such as I drew from the fact that after being caught
with Otis D. Slemmons, Missie May and Joe had not touched in three months, then six months later
the baby boy had arrived. So in conclusion I basically just added those months together to estimate
how much time actually passed between the beginning of the story and end.

5.Compare the written voices of Joe and the candy shop clerk near the end of the story. How does
the clerk s dialect differ? Why do you think Hurston chose to introduce this different voice into the
story at the end?
The dialect differs between the two at the end of the story showing that Joe s is more of broken up
while the clerk s dialect is a little more advanced than his. I think Hurston chose to introduce this
different voice into the story at the end to show the noticeable pronunciation barrier between the
two.
6.Throughout the story. Joe gives coins to Missie May. What is the significance of the silverdollars
at the beginning of the story? Contrast this with Joe s meaning when he leaves Missie May the
gilded coin on the table. How has the significance of the silver dollars changed at the end of the
story?
The significance of the silver dollars at the beginning of the story show a way that the two love
birds Missie May and Joe play together. Joe s meaning when he leaves Missie May the gilded coin
on the table is to show her what Otis gave to her was not real at all it was a fraud just like him,
unlike the real sliver dollars he tossed at her every Saturday evening. However in the end of the
story the significance of the silver dollars changed to show the couple s love which was much more
valuable than gold.

The biggest improvement they could make would be to write up a set plan for risk
management. As for an insurance company, such as Chastain and Associates, the biggest risk
they would face would more than likely be cybersecurity. As more and more of the insurance

themselves to a greater risk for cyber crimes. Keeping their private records as well as their
clients policies safe is a high priority, and with as fast as technology is moving today could be

a cyber security system in check as well as delegating a certain person to deal with security

responsibility for. There are not many risks that deal with the insurance company itself. For

The Indian village of Andaloor abides by the rules of a traditional Hindu marriage. First, both
parents and their son would discuss the prerequistes that the bride must have. For example, the
bride and groom must both be in the same caste, if not the marriage would be considered taboo.
Another requirement would be a similar economic and religious background. Because Andaloor is

these requirements however, have become slightly (emphasis on the slightly) less important in
contemporary India, although adherence to the norm is still a dominant factor in marriagein India.

Knows his course is wrong, And repairs the evil: The only Crime is pride, said by Teiresias.
(This excerpt is from Antigone, by the classical Greek playwright Sophocles.) This quote can
mean several different things. It all depends on how you interpret it. I believe that Teiresias is
explaining that a good man knows how to admit when he is wrong and tries to fix the problem
that his mistake has caused. The only crime is pride. Teiresias is demonstrating the negative side of

We are going to mess up. We were created to make mistakes so that way we could learn from

alright to make mistakes, but trying to cover the mistakes up is not the right thing to do. Think
about it, every time you choose to tell a lie you have to tell 1,000 more just to cover up the first

The Adaptive Voice
The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions.
Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of
who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she
moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have
both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of
knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies
the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the
Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life
style and according to Susan Blackmores essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to
learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well;
building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices
we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our
voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you
pick up a new memeit is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says
flexibility is something that requires work if it is to be maintained (Smith 248). This is something

Company has to make the marketing strategies for making the product success in the market. And
those general strategies would be effecting in different context throughout the company. To enter
into the global market company has to use different signs, symbols, shape, slogans, by which is
easily understandable to that country because if the product is not easily memorable to customers
then they will easily move to the substitute product and then the product will have a chance for
failure in that market. So before entering into the global market company has to research all the
taste and preference of that country because to enter in to the new market it wants a very huge
expense.

Agency And Autonomy In Children s Literature
Agency and Autonomy in Children s Literature One of the themes that characterize children s
literature is the question of agency. Agency in children s literature allows the child reader to
experience a degree of autonomy in the imagined world, which the child does not possess in a
world governed by adult rules and authority. However, a close reading of Milne s Winnie the
Pooh and Collins The Hunger Games demonstrates that children have more power and agency
than they believe they do. Although children s worlds are controlled by various restrictions,
children possess the power of imagination, the ability to create their own worlds, and that is their
source of autonomy and agency. As they grow older, they gradually start losing that agency as
they enter into the adult world, a world governed by a different kind of obedience. Winnie the
Pooh is a series of short stories read to Christopher Robin. What makes these stories unique is that
Christopher Robin is both a character in the story and a reader. He participates in the story telling;
he gets to control parts of the narratives his father reads to him. The introduction sets the stage for
the rest of the stories; Milne starts by introducing Pooh,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

highlights that Pooh is allowed to think for himself, imagine, and create his own reality even
when it does not make sense. The emphasis on the I by Pooh also suggests the degree of
autonomy he possesses; it does not matter if someone else believes it is wrong as long as he
believes in it and accepts

LSD (lysergic Acid Dyethilamide)
A Swiss chemist named Dr. Albert Hoffman first produced lysergic acid Diethylmide or best
known as LSD in 1938 (Dye, 1992, p. 2). Hoffman discovered the drug while trying to synthesize a
new drug for the treatment of headaches. He obtained the lysergic acid from the parasitic fungus
that grows on rye plants known as ergot. From the lysergic acid, he synthesized the compound
LSD. He used the compound to test for its pain killing properties on laboratory animals. Being that
appeared totally ineffective, the bottle of LSD was placed on a shelf and remained untouched for
five years.
On April 16, 1943, Dr. Hoffmandecided to do further research with the LSD compound (Dye, 1992

One of the first areas of LSD experimentation was in treating alcoholism (Dye, 1992, p.36). After
extensive research, it was concluded that LSD was not effective on treating alcoholism and the
research was discontinued.
LSD was also tested on schizophrenics, drug addicts and criminals (Dye, 1992 p. 38). Research
determined that LSD was ineffective in treating any behavioral problems. It was also concluded
that LSD might transform a normal individual into a person with a very calm to severe personality
problem.
The Central Intelligence Agency and various military agencies also became interested in LSD
research in the late 1950 s (Dye, 1992, p.410.) Their interest in the drug was in the area of mind
control. They saw the possibility of manipulating of manipulating the beliefs of strong willed
people. They gave the drug to a group of army scientists and then attempted to change some of their
basic beliefs while under the influence of the drug. However, one of the scientists became psychotic
and committed suicide by jumping from a hotel window. These agencies continued their research by
using drug addicts and prostitutes to test their mind control theories. After extensive
experimentation, it became apparent that LSD could alter LSD the mind but not control it. The
United States government discontinued this sort of research. Up until today, the Food and Drug
Administration have never approved LSD. This strong hallucinageous drug remains only as

Evolution Of Spartan Strategy During The Peloponnesian War
Evolution of Spartan strategy during The Peloponnesian War
At the very beginning I would like to express excitement by The Peloponnesian War and its
relevance despite 2400 years afterwards. This book is not only relevant for military science, but
civil society too. However, this book provides broad and comprehensive details for all levels of
military war: strategic, operational, and tactical. I will focus my paper to the military sphere, more
particularly, to the evolution of Spartan strategy throughout the War. My intention is to do so
through analysis of ends, ways, means, and merge them with related risk. The purpose of this paper
is to explain how the changing environment and circumstances influenced and shaped the strategy of

Sparta s initial strategy at the beginning of the Peloponnesian Warwas an end state to prevent
Athens growing their power and from ruling all Hellas. The concept was to move forces slowly
and moderately, devastating Attica, harass the city of Athens, and draw them out to fight land
war, while avoiding naval engagement. . It would not be an easy and quick war, and should
avoid any kind of engagement with Athenian fleet. Sparta had only one means to achieve the
desired end state, its Army. This was possible only by land with the army marching every season
from Sparta through Corinth, conducting operations in Attica and coming back home. Strategic
vulnerability was long term sustainment, lack of funds, and time critical in that Sparta s
soldiers as farmers would not be able to mobilize for long campaigns. However, Athen s military
leaders, Pericles particularly, understood that Athenian sea power would be more effective
against Sparta on land than Sparta s land power at sea. As a conclusion of the analysis of the
Sparta s initial strategy, I assess, it was not suitable for a long term war as Sparta herself was not
prepared for a prolonged war. Strategy was acceptable and feasible, but only during fighting season.
So overall success would be questionable considering time sensitivity, which will give enough time
for Athene to recover after fighting season.

Most Basic Turn In Ballet
The most basic turn in ballet is the pirouette, which is a turn around a vertical axis with one
supporting foot on the floor. The pirouette is a highly complex and highly organized skill that
involves the simultaneous coordination of the head, arms, trunk, knees, and feet (Denari Correa,
2013). There are three stages of a pirouette: the preparation, turn, and landing.
Preparation
The position and movements preceding the actual turn in the pirouette is called the preparation. To
start, place your feet in fourth position, in which the left foot is in front of the right with slightly
more than one foot in between the two feet. According to one study, successful turns were executed

Spotting involves choosing one point at which to direct your focus while you turn. As you turn,
keep your focus on that one spot and, when you can t look at it any longer, whip your head around
and find the spot again. The main purpose of spotting is to prevent dizziness, since research has
shown that it does not affect the amount of turns generated. The results from a study suggest that
spotting has a negligible effect in generating angular momentum during the double support phase of
a pirouette. Another source concurred that the rotational momentum of a turn is a quantity, and that
the total rotational momentum of the body can only change if external torque acts on the body.
Thus, there is no way that changes in body position alone, which occurs when a dancer spots their
head, can change the total rotational momentum (Laws Sugano,

The Original Myth Of Daedalus And Icarus
The original myth of Daedalus and Icarus was written by Ovid in his story The Story of Daedalus
and Icarus . The story is about Daedalus, who was an architect, and Icarus, his son. They were
exiled to an island that can only be escaped through the air. Daedalus made wax wings that melt if
they get too close to the sun. When Icarusstarted flying, he flew too high and fell to his death.
This story has been interpreted several different ways; these include: Landscape with the Fall of
Icarus, a painting by Pieter Bruegel; Landscape with the Fall of Icarus , a poem by William
Carlos Williams; and Musee des Beaux Arts , a poem by W. H. Auden. The texts use different
elements to portray Icarus death, which symbolizes man s failure. One

My Life Has Me Thinking Essay
Currently, life has me thinking what a difference a year makes . You see, exactly a year ago I
was starting Graduate School at the Simmons College School of Social Work. In addition, I was
living with the girl I believed I was going to marry. Today, one year later I am now single and
have been dismissed from the Simmons College program without finishing my degree. However, I
did not let the circumstances allow me to give up, because I am resilient. Resiliency is an important
concept we teach our clients/community within the realm of Social Work. My year of 2016 has
reminded me how vital it is to be resilient.
My dream to become an LICSW Family Therapist/Marriage Counselor is taking a different route
than my original plan. My undergraduate career followed a long road with a lot of uncertainty.
Uncertain of: if college was for me, and if so, what I wanted to study, and if not, what exactly I
wanted to do for a career. After my freshman, year in college, I decided college was not for me.
Then the year 2000 came. My high school classmates were graduating from college and landing
careers, while I was jumping from job to job. I made the decision to return to college in 2001 and
graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2008. Before graduating, while still in college, I
moved to New York in 2006 and started my career in Social Services at Graham Windham, a non
profit foster care agency. This is when I learned about the field of social work.

and one strand of a regulatory protein coiled with each other. Thick filaments are staggered arrays
of myosin molecules . * Organization Units of skeletal muscle. Filaments are organized into
structures called the sarcomeres . Sarcomeres are created in the following manners: * The Z lines
are at the border of the sarcomere . They align in adjacent myofibrils . *The I bands are areas that
are near the edges of the sarcomere containing only thin filament. * The A bands are regions where
thick and thin filaments overlap each other and correspond to the length of the thick filament.* The
H zones are the areas in the center of the A bands containing only thick filament. In vertebrates
Cardiac Muscles: are only found in the heart. Muscles cells are branched, and the junctions between
the cells contain intercalated discs that electrically connect all heart muscle cells with each other,
allowing the co ordinated actions. These cells can also create their own action potentials. In Smooth

Romeo And Juliet Plans Essay
Everybody makes plans every day. Plans are part of our daily lives. In the tragic play Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare, the local priest, Friar Laurence, loved to make plans. He tried to
make peace between rival family s, the Capulets, and the Montagues. He devised many risky
plans involving the two teens Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Friar Lawrence s plans
included Romeo and Juliet s secret marriage, Romeo s Banishment, and Juliet s fake death. All of
these plans affected the characters and the outcome of the play. Friar Lawrence s first plan, to
marry Romeo and Juliet is what really started this whole mess. Romeo went directly to Friar to ask

This season Russel Westbrook averaged a triple double and surpassed Oscar Roberson for most

order for him to have been able to average a triple double this season had to at least have one in

Comparing The Religious Agenda Of John Donne And Francis...
The Religious Agenda of John Donne and Francis Bacon Discuss the significance of religious
belief in writing you have studied on the course.
Introduction
The Renaissance period was marked with bouts of religious change, from the Protestant
Reformation in Germany to the formation of the Church of England. Much of the literature
published during the Renaissance was a reaction to these constant changes the works of John
Donne and Francis Bacon are no different. Donne and Bacon were prominent writers of their time.
They were well known for indulging in religious debate through their work, especially with relation
to other societal issues such as the rise of science. Donne s Satire III highlights the issue of

He uses his priest like tone at the end of the poem to encourage his fellowman to cement their
relationship with God instead of pursuing a relationship with the church.
Extended Metaphor
Furthermore, Donne encourages people to find a spiritual or personal faith of their own through the
extended metaphor of religion as a lady. He states, Is not our Mistress, fair Religion/ As worthy of
all our soul s devotion . He presents religion in female form and lists men who seek a relationship
with her. For example, Marcus seeks her at Rome, indicating that Marcus seeks the truth of religion
in Catholicism. On the other hand, a Careless Phygrius abhors all religion and dares not commit to
one lest it be the wrong one. Here, Donne outlines the search for true religion via the points of view
of different men, showing the different avenues others have gone down in the effort to find the true
religion. And yet, despite all the various efforts to find the true religion, Donne states that all
women are the same, just like religion. This controversial statement, at a time where differenent
churches were forming, acts as a thinking point for society. Donne makes people re think their
confimority to church laws and encourages them to find true spirituality within themselves.
Donne s purpose is clear: he is writing to convince himself and society that no matter what
denomination one chooses to adhere to, they are all seen as one under the eyes of God. He

Opera, Beethoven symphony No. 5. The instrument choirused was their voices and a piano. Band
used a variety of instruments such as trumpets, trombones, tubas, French horns, clarinets, flutes,
saxophones, piccolos, drums, electric basses, xylophones, tambourines, and others. For choir, there
were a lot of times when all the voices sand in the same pitchbut there were times when they sang
in harmony. A piano is used by an instruction for accompaniment. The group was split into three
sections most of the time, these three sections were soprano, alto, and bass. Sopranos and altos
consist of females and basses consist of male. Sopranos would usually have the melodies in the
song and altos would sing an octave lower and basses would sing very low. However, there were
times when altos had the melodies instead of sopranos. During some songs, the choir would split
into four sections, sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. While sopranos, altos, and basses consist of
homogenous genders, tenors were heterogeneous. Tenors would sing lower than altos but higher
than basses. Before singing any songs, the choir members warmed up their voices by singing

Native Hawaiians And Native Americans
When Native Hawaiians welcomed Captain Cook and his crew, they began a journey that would
lead to the crumbling of Hawaiian culture. After Captain Cook, missionaries continued to travel to
Hawaii to, in their opinion, help the Hawaiian people. Native Hawaiians were viewed as savages
and were seemingly given the best assistance from the missionaries. However, the help that the
Hawaiians received led to them being demoralized and hurt psychologically and physiologically. In
order to succeed, underdogs often need the assistance of others. However, too much aid from others
can result in the help becoming the underdog s Goliath instead of their savior. The Hawaiians,
being thought of as the underdogs by the missionaries, were given an overwhelming amount of help
which led to the missionaries becoming the Hawaiian s Goliath. Before Captain Cook stumbled
upon Hawaii, the Hawaiians lived in harmony with the aina, or the land. They lived by ahupua a,
or strict land divisions that respected the natural landscape. Communities were created around
rivers and water sources. The Hawaiians had a strict law system called the kapu. They lived
with great respect to the land and believed in demi gods such as Pele, the goddess of the volcano,

on the land. Peace and prosperity thrived throughout the islands because people understood that

John Smith True Relation Summary
Dear Disney,
Because of John Smith s two contradictory accounts and love for attention, I do not believe that
Pocahontas saved his life. Smith wrote two books about his time in Virginia. In the first book, True
Relation (est. 1608), John writes that he was peacefully accepted into the tribe, and that he was
assisted and fed with grace. One interesting thing to note is that Smith does not mention Pocahontas
in this first story. Sixteen years later, John Smith published another chronicle of his visit to the
Powhatan tribe. This book is called General History (est. 1624), and speaks more critically of the
tribe. Then I was dragged by many hands, and they laid my head on the stones, being ready with
their clubs to beat out my brains , wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The timing of the two accounts leads me to believe in the first. Because True Relation was
written almost immediately and General History was written so many years after, it is safe to
assume that Smith may have become faint in memory of the event by the time the second book
was published. Similarly related, John s first book was written as an anecdote while General
History was written to interest potential settlers of the area. In True Relation, John writes of
thanking Pocahontas for her father s kindness when she comes to Jamestown later in 1608.
However, he does not write of thanking her for saving his life. This leads a reader to the
conclusion that she did not, in fact, save him. Another interesting contradiction in Smith s
multiple accounts is when in another book, A Map of Virginia (est. 1612), Smith describes an
execution ritual. He describes a prisoner s head being placed on a sacrificing stone, while one
with clubs beats out their brains. Isn t it rather odd that he didn t mention his own experience here,
since it sounds just like what happened to him? writes historian Henry Adams in 1867. Given these
pieces of evidence and many others, it is clear that Pocahontas saving John Smith s life was purely a

Analysis Of Broken Promises By David Kirby
Human nature is one of the most interesting things to write about. Every day famous authors
continue to write books upon books about the struggles and adversity humanity faces every day.
They come up in the forms of novels, short stories, epic tales and poems. We can talk about
whatever we want and interpret it differently. The poem I will be analyzing in this essay David
Kirby s Broken Promises . I will give my interpretation and try to talk about every line. First, let s
start with a bit of background on David Kirby. He was born on 1944, on a farm in Southern
Louisiana. When he was young he remembered stories that his mother told him. When his
mother was a child she also lived on a farm, and there were many people living on the farm.
There were recently emancipated slaves, witches and wanderers in the wood. She led a very
interesting life on this farm. His mother was an excellent storyteller, and she passed this on to
Kirby. When he was older he went to Louisiana State University, and later he got his PhD from
John Hopkins University. When Kirby started his career he was inspired by people like John
Keats and Little Richard. Once he started writing, he wanted to bring little bits of everything
about life in his poems. He wrote long lined narrative poems. He once stated in an interview with
Craig Morgan Teicher, One thing I want to do in poems is to portray the mind as it actually works
. This may be influenced the way he wrote Broken Promises , since it personifies

maybe the Author thought that heidi the main character of the book liked dinosaurs, so she should

to know for sure what color they were. The author might of put this part because maybe she like
dinosaurs and she wanted them to be part of her story, maybe she thought the main character heidi
would love dinosaurs. So many things i thought about, But maybe the author thought that this topic

Four early novels Rage (1977), The Long Walk (1979), Roadwork (1981) and The Running Man
(1982) were published under the moniker because of King s concern that the public wouldn t

Essay on Reaching for a Dream in Literature
Selfish Dream
Everyone has their dreams and whoever puts all his or her efforts and determination in pursuing
that goal is the one who will succeed. However, there are dreamers who have misconceptions
about the art of dreaming. In three pieces of literature I have encountered: The Achievement of
Desire by Richard Rodriguez, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry and Fences by August
Wilson, its characters fight for their dreams regardless obstacles in their life. Nevertheless, they
expose their sense of self absorbance while seeking their dreams. Dreaming and aspiration are
human senses, but when one considers his or her dream more important than the others, dreaming
becomes another aspect of selfishness.
In general, to fulfill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blindingly pursuit his ideal life, most importantly, the man has lost his social skills which he
assumes himself a bad boy . Even though the man has enough intellectual knowledge to get
aware of his temporary problems, he does not make any changes. His selfishness dynamically
expresses later on in adulthood. He admits that he is always unconfident, sad and anxious.
Moreover, he develops a sense of disrespect to his parents. He makes fun at correct their grammar
mistakes; He get sick of their constant encouragement; He is disgraceful parent because they can
help him with his homework. The character obviously does nothing to compensate for his parent
sacrifice. He is an outstanding student, but in the human sense, he fails to be an educated person.
He once admits: He cannot afford to admit his parents (How could he still and pursuit such a
contrary life?). He permits himself embarrassment at their lack of education (Rodriquez 3). He
may think that now with an excellent education, he is in a higher level than others including his
parents. Therefore, he feels ashamed of them. Getting rejected from the society and suffering a
state of loneliness are a pricey cost of success that Richard Rodriquez s character decides to take.
People expose the selfishness when they dismiss others aspiration base on their perspective. August

The Norse Mythology Of The Book, And It Was Nothing
WRITTEN
Many different people have their own opinions about this book. For example, people might have
liked or disliked the cliffhanger at the end of the book. This leads to the topic of people s like
and dislikes about the book. Many people have reviewed this book, meaning there were a
variety of opinions. One person began by saying that he liked the book, and it was nothing like
what he had expected, it made the book interesting. This one person started by saying that he
loved the whole book, additionally how it played out. He expressed that he adores the fantasy as
well as the Norse gods, he said that when Matt finds out that he is a descendant of Thor, Fen and
Laurie find out they are descendants of Loki was just extraordinary and ... Show more content on

He hopes to have the hammer of Thor, Mjolnir, to help in the great battle, but for now, he has
only his amulet, his might, and fighting experience. The book revolves around Matt as he is a
significant part of this book. Matt is Hardworking, he uses all of his might to defeat any obstacle
which he faces in this book. He spent a week or two trying to prepare for a battle that he was
chosen to fight in, and over that week he faced many other obstacles, for example, wolves. He
also earned everything he got, he worked for his shield, his friendship, and most of all, his
power. This can be proven by when Matt and Baldwin sneak into the raiders camp to grab the
shield that they stole from him, on page 307 it proves that he is hardworking, Sure enough,
under that stack of blankets, he found the shield. . Matt is also significantly brave. He has no
choice but battle different creatures to make his way to the final fight, he has fought the wolves,
ghosts, and trolls, on page 162, there s a troll coming, he said, before he could even think it. and
that s just to name a few of the creatures that he has brawled with. Matt is a very athletic character,
he has been on a boxing team and practices every day, this also proves that he is a very
hardworking person. I know this because on page 1 he said, After two hours of boxing practice. .
Matt is also very loving because he has a secret crush on Astrid, who plays as Odin s girlfriend. On
page 261 he is

The Tiananmen Square Massacre Greatly Impacted The World
The Tiananmen Square Massacre greatly impacted the way the rest of the world viewed the
Chinese government. Imagine not having the freedom of speech that we do today, or living in a
country that kills the innocent. In 1989, college students exercised their right to freedom of speech
while protesting their communist leaders, and the leaders of Communist China put the
demonstration down with military force resulting in possibly thousands killed. But, throughout
the last 25 years China has grown and developed into a much different country than it was during
the late 1980 s. Granted, the country still has a long way to go before it resembles the democracy
present in the United States today, but it seems to be headed in the right direction. The Tiananmen
Square is a large public area and its name, Tiananmen, translates ironically to Gate of Heavenly
Peace (CNN Library, 2015). It is located in Beijing, the capital of China (as seen in the map to the
right). The square was built during the early Ming dynasty and covered around one hundred
acres. During this time period it was the largest open area in the world. The Tiananmen Square
did not technically adopt its name until the PRC took power in 1949. In 958, the square was
enlarged into its present day size and it was also paved over. Located inside the square is the
Monument to the People s Heroes and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. China developed a
communist government in 1921 and Mao Zedong took control in 1927. This

  • 2. Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay INTRODUCTION Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed not only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence, deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. She prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. The countries would demand for that item and in return the other country would supply it for them. They would trade products in and out of their countries due to a term known as supply and demand. The goods and services that a country supplies and demands depends on the country and what they have. Since not every country has the same needs or has the same resources, there is a trade between countries at times. Some countries might supply, the amount of goods that a market can produce, and demand, the amount of goods the consumers are willing to buy, more than others, but they are still supplying and demanding something out of someone else. The country could demand something from its own citizens and the citizens would supply it, but it could be applied to an even bigger audience. A country could demand something from another country and in result, the other country would supply the demand to either keep its friendship with the other country, or to keep its reliance for when something is needed. Or the countries could do a simple trade of supplies they have that the countries demand. In result to supply and demand between countries, it creates utility, total satisfaction received from consuming a goods or service. Demand shows how much of a product a consumer is willing and able to consume, based on the price at a certain time period. The law of demand is, when prices are to fall, the quantity of the product that consumers want begins to rise. In simpler forms, when the price to an item drops, consumers are willing to buy more because they are cheaper and more affordable, more people are willing and able to buy the item. Yet avoidance is practically impossible since the core characteristics, ideas and beliefs of each individual often conflict with our own. Differences of opinion, competitive zeal, and misinterpretations, among other factors, can all generate ill feelings between co workers within an organization. While we can t avoid conflict, we can learn how to sidestep negative confrontations by becoming familiar with the types of conflicts that most commonly arise in the work place and by learning how to resolve them. Once you have identified a conflict, you must plan a course of action. Decide whether the conflict is important enough to confront the conflicting parties. Make careful assessments of both the conflict and the conflict s impact on the individuals and the organization. The said conflict could just be an intense brainstorming session (which you must not short circuit). If you deem confrontation is necessary, however, confront the parties separately. Confront them in a neutral setting for a down to earth chat. If the conflict is in its early stages, resolution might be easily and quickly achieved now. During the confrontation, the cause of the conflict must be determined. After the confrontation, the manager needs to reflect on the discussion and reach an objective solution for both parties to agree upon. There will be times when the parties will not agree: in this case, use your own judgment. Your primary objective is to find a solution. The manager dips into his resources and either reduces or eliminates the conflict. To accomplish this you need to elicit enough information to understand each employees member s opinion and to define the problem in mutual terms. Once a solution is implemented, you must make regular checks on the parties to insure that their agreements are being kept. • 9. Different Forms Of Division Of Labor By Emile Durkheim Emile Durkheim, born in 1858 was an eminent proponent of Sociology from France, considered to be one of the greatest in his field alongside Karl Marx and Max Weber. Durkheim aimed to study society taking an evolutionary approach, keeping in mind that society is composed of individuals. However, it was not essentially the aggregate sum of each individual s behavior, actions and thoughts. Durkheim endeavored to understand transformation of society, from traditional to modern, where solidarity changes from mechanical to organic because of the phenomenon of division of labour . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the same standards it also contains fallacies which limit its appeal in contemporary world. Firstly, Durkheim s account of organic solidarity seems positivist in that the division of labor does not have negative effects at all. With great convenience Durkheim propagates the conditions responsible for smooth functioning of organized societies in some idyllic place. To elaborate more on this point, the society does not have the self regulating quality as implied by organic solidarity. Durkheim s principle assumption was that collective conscience and individual conscience coupled with the State would lead to organic solidarity. Although Durkheim tries to take account of this nature of society through anomic division of labor yet his viewpoint on evils of unregulated capitalism, commercial and industrial crises, class conflict, meaninglessness, alienated labor etc. was very uncritical in nature. This observation was further strengthened when in his later works he gradually parted away with evolutionary optimism which underpinned the mechanical, self regulating conception of division of labor. Secondly, Durkheim does not seem to be concerned about the ill effects of division of labor . On one hand mutual interdependence creates solidarity which holds together societies, on the other in modern societies one is not able to sustain without depending ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. • 25. Agency And Autonomy In Children s Literature Agency and Autonomy in Children s Literature One of the themes that characterize children s literature is the question of agency. Agency in children s literature allows the child reader to experience a degree of autonomy in the imagined world, which the child does not possess in a world governed by adult rules and authority. However, a close reading of Milne s Winnie the Pooh and Collins The Hunger Games demonstrates that children have more power and agency than they believe they do. Although children s worlds are controlled by various restrictions, children possess the power of imagination, the ability to create their own worlds, and that is their source of autonomy and agency. As they grow older, they gradually start losing that agency as they enter into the adult world, a world governed by a different kind of obedience. Winnie the Pooh is a series of short stories read to Christopher Robin. What makes these stories unique is that Christopher Robin is both a character in the story and a reader. This acceptance highlights that Pooh is allowed to think for himself, imagine, and create his own reality even when it does not make sense. • 26. lsd Essay LSD (lysergic Acid Dyethilamide) A Swiss chemist named Dr. Albert Hoffman first produced lysergic acid Diethylmide or best known as LSD in 1938 (Dye, 1992, p. 2). Hoffman discovered the drug while trying to synthesize a new drug for the treatment of headaches. He obtained the lysergic acid from the parasitic fungus that grows on rye plants known as ergot. From the lysergic acid, he synthesized the compound LSD. He used the compound to test for its pain killing properties on laboratory animals. Being that appeared totally ineffective, the bottle of LSD was placed on a shelf and remained untouched for five years. Evolution Of Spartan Strategy During The Peloponnesian War Evolution of Spartan strategy during The Peloponnesian War At the very beginning I would like to express excitement by The Peloponnesian War and its relevance despite 2400 years afterwards. This book is not only relevant for military science, but civil society too. However, this book provides broad and comprehensive details for all levels of military war: strategic, operational, and tactical. I will focus my paper to the military sphere, more particularly, to the evolution of Spartan strategy throughout the War. My intention is to do so through analysis of ends, ways, means, and merge them with related risk. The purpose of this paper is to explain how the changing environment and circumstances influenced and shaped the strategy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sparta s initial strategy at the beginning of the Peloponnesian Warwas an end state to prevent Athens growing their power and from ruling all Hellas. The concept was to move forces slowly and moderately, devastating Attica, harass the city of Athens, and draw them out to fight land war, while avoiding naval engagement. . It would not be an easy and quick war, and should avoid any kind of engagement with Athenian fleet. Sparta had only one means to achieve the desired end state, its Army. This was possible only by land with the army marching every season from Sparta through Corinth, conducting operations in Attica and coming back home. Strategic vulnerability was long term sustainment, lack of funds, and time critical in that Sparta s soldiers as farmers would not be able to mobilize for long campaigns. However, Athen s military leaders, Pericles particularly, understood that Athenian sea power would be more effective against Sparta on land than Sparta s land power at sea. As a conclusion of the analysis of the Sparta s initial strategy, I assess, it was not suitable for a long term war as Sparta herself was not prepared for a prolonged war. Strategy was acceptable and feasible, but only during fighting season. So overall success would be questionable considering time sensitivity, which will give enough time for Athene to recover after fighting season. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pirouette is a highly complex and highly organized skill that involves the simultaneous coordination of the head, arms, trunk, knees, and feet (Denari Correa, 2013). There are three stages of a pirouette: the preparation, turn, and landing. Preparation The position and movements preceding the actual turn in the pirouette is called the preparation. To start, place your feet in fourth position, in which the left foot is in front of the right with slightly more than one foot in between the two feet. As you turn, keep your focus on that one spot and, when you can t look at it any longer, whip your head around and find the spot again. The results from a study suggest that spotting has a negligible effect in generating angular momentum during the double support phase of a pirouette. Another source concurred that the rotational momentum of a turn is a quantity, and that the total rotational momentum of the body can only change if external torque acts on the body. Thus, there is no way that changes in body position alone, which occurs when a dancer spots their head, can change the total rotational momentum (Laws Sugano, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SELETAL, CARDIAC, AND SMOOTH MUSCLE: Skeletal Muscle Structure: skeletal muscles cells are like long fiber structures, That contain many nuclei and are subdivided into smaller structures that are called myofibrils . The Myofibrils are created of two kinds of myofilaments . Thin filaments are made of two strands of the protein actin and one strand of a regulatory protein coiled with each other. Thick filaments are staggered arrays of myosin molecules . * Organization Units of skeletal muscle. Filaments are organized into structures called the sarcomeres . Sarcomeres are created in the following manners: * The Z lines are at the border of the sarcomere . They align in adjacent myofibrils . *The I bands are areas that are near the edges of the sarcomere containing only thin filament. * The A bands are regions where thick and thin filaments overlap each other and correspond to the length of the thick filament.* The H zones are the areas in the center of the A bands containing only thick filament. In vertebrates Cardiac Muscles: are only found in the heart. Muscles cells are branched, and the junctions between the cells contain intercalated discs that electrically connect all heart muscle cells with each other, allowing the co ordinated actions. He uses his priest like tone at the end of the poem to encourage his fellowman to cement their relationship with God instead of pursuing a relationship with the church. Extended Metaphor Furthermore, Donne encourages people to find a spiritual or personal faith of their own through the extended metaphor of religion as a lady. He states, Is not our Mistress, fair Religion/ As worthy of all our soul s devotion . He presents religion in female form and lists men who seek a relationship with her. For example, Marcus seeks her at Rome, indicating that Marcus seeks the truth of religion in Catholicism. On the other hand, a Careless Phygrius abhors all religion and dares not commit to one lest it be the wrong one. Here, Donne outlines the search for true religion via the points of view of different men, showing the different avenues others have gone down in the effort to find the true religion. And yet, despite all the various efforts to find the true religion, Donne states that all women are the same, just like religion. This controversial statement, at a time where differenent churches were forming, acts as a thinking point for society. Donne makes people re think their confimority to church laws and encourages them to find true spirituality within themselves. Smith wrote two books about his time in Virginia. In the first book, True Relation (est. 1608), John writes that he was peacefully accepted into the tribe, and that he was assisted and fed with grace. One interesting thing to note is that Smith does not mention Pocahontas in this first story. Sixteen years later, John Smith published another chronicle of his visit to the Powhatan tribe. This book is called General History (est. 1624), and speaks more critically of the tribe. Then I was dragged by many hands, and they laid my head on the stones, being ready with their clubs to beat out my brains , wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The timing of the two accounts leads me to believe in the first. Because True Relation was written almost immediately and General History was written so many years after, it is safe to assume that Smith may have become faint in memory of the event by the time the second book was published. Similarly related, John s first book was written as an anecdote while General History was written to interest potential settlers of the area. In True Relation, John writes of thanking Pocahontas for her father s kindness when she comes to Jamestown later in 1608. However, he does not write of thanking her for saving his life. This leads a reader to the conclusion that she did not, in fact, save him. Another interesting contradiction in Smith s multiple accounts is when in another book, A Map of Virginia (est. 1612), Smith describes an execution ritual. He describes a prisoner s head being placed on a sacrificing stone, while one with clubs beats out their brains. Isn t it rather odd that he didn t mention his own experience here, since it sounds just like what happened to him? writes historian Henry Adams in 1867. We can talk about whatever we want and interpret it differently. The poem I will be analyzing in this essay David Kirby s Broken Promises . I will give my interpretation and try to talk about every line. First, let s start with a bit of background on David Kirby. He was born on 1944, on a farm in Southern Louisiana. When he was young he remembered stories that his mother told him. When his mother was a child she also lived on a farm, and there were many people living on the farm. There were recently emancipated slaves, witches and wanderers in the wood. She led a very interesting life on this farm. His mother was an excellent storyteller, and she passed this on to Kirby. When he was older he went to Louisiana State University, and later he got his PhD from John Hopkins University. When Kirby started his career he was inspired by people like John Keats and Little Richard. Once he started writing, he wanted to bring little bits of everything about life in his poems. He wrote long lined narrative poems. He once stated in an interview with Craig Morgan Teicher, One thing I want to do in poems is to portray the mind as it actually works . China developed a communist government in 1921 and Mao Zedong took control in 1927. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
