Chapter 9 Of The Great Gatsby
The setting in the last chapter is unchanged from the start of the novel, which suggests that Alex s
persona has behaved the same way. Even as Alex moves from place to place, the settings match up. At
the beginning of chapter seven of part three, Alex is once again sitting in the Korova Milkbar with
three other friends. At this point, the story seems to come full circle and creates a sense of Déjà vu
since the setting of the first page was the same place. Burgess begins to incorporate a sense of change
in the last chapter when Alex explains the heighth of fashion, which in those days was these very wide
trousers and a very loose black shiny leather like jerkin over an open necked shirt with a scarf tucked
in (Burgess 201). This contrasts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the evening (200). However, unlike the first chapter, Alex has new friends and he is now the oldest
one in the group (##). In the first chapter, as Alex and his droogs are making their way through the
town, they run into an old man carrying books. They decide to beat the man and rob him and Alex
takes part in the beating (9). In the last chapter a similar event occurs in which the group meets a man
on the street. But this time Alex does not take part in the beating stating, more and more these days I
had just been giving the orders and standing back to viddy them being carried out (202). This
statement suggest that Alex has undergone some sort of change, however shallow it may be, because
previously Alex would not have been able to resist getting in on the action. In both chapters, the
friends move on to the Duke of New York bar and purchase drinks for the same three ladies. In
contrast to the first chapter, older Alex hesitates to give away his money to them because these last
days...there had come into his gulliver a like desire to keep all [his] pretty polly to [himself],
indicating that he has become more economical (203). As stated before, following this event the
chapters take turns in opposite directions. At the beginning of the book, Alex and his droogs

Corruption In Oliver Twist
With his view on people, influenced by the faith of the goodness in humanity, Charles dickens
portrays in a compassionate way the poor and overlooked s poor conditions in the 1800 century, in his
popular novel Oliver Twist .
London, it was here the industrial revelation commenced, and it became the biggest social alteration in
history. People left their homes, and traveled from the countryside to the big city for work at the new
factories. Millions came to let time pass by, while living in miserable poverty. Hard workers, children
of the street, prostitutes, thieves and beggars where all part of the group of people who was neglected,
Oliver Twist is a great example of this (p. 1 l. 1 5), and was a awakening for many people.

coney! What s the row? (p. 5 l. 214) walking for sivin days! ...oh I see. Beak s order, eh? (p. 6 l. 217)
which is hard to understand, but Oliver strangely enough, speaks correct and proper English: I do,
indeed (p. 6 l. 247). His well formed language is a bit odd, considering Oliver s probably not that well
educated, and grew up in the streets. Oliver does not represent a boy in doubt of his morals When he
sees them swipe a handkerchief from an elderly gentleman, Oliver is horrified and runs off (p. 1 l. 13
14) but is actually quite well aware of what s good and what s bad. His virtuousness is in full control,
which is also the main conflict in the story. Oliver s rough start on life and upbringing could or should
have encouraged him to thievery and other criminal acts, but he struggles to find himself and manages
to stay on the good side and rises from the lower class miserable

Media as a whole has evolved alongside with the growth of technology, that give us new ways to
interact with each other with social sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc... It also gives way for individual
to get more information to get in touch with our culture. But often times, some of the information
were given to us by media can be ignored and interpret it differently than the original meaning,
especially the depiction of minorities in media. It is hard to watch any form of media in today s
society without seeing some kind of injustice toward minorities or the representation portrayal of that

Compare And Contrast The Yellow Wallpaper And The Painted...
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Sinclair Ross s The Painted Door are both
stories about women protagonists who feel emotionally isolated from their husbands, who both go by
the name John. Ann in The Painted the Door and the wife whose name may or may not be Jane in The
Yellow Wallpaper are women who deal with emotional isolation. Emotional isolation is a state of
isolation where one may be in a relationship but still feel emotional separation. In these two stories,
both women feel emotionally isolated from their husbands due to lack of communication. In both
stories, lack of communication results from one individual failing to disclose their true feelings and
instead he or she are beating around the bush, hoping the other party will know what they want. If
both parties directly disclose their desires and feelings to one another, there would be a better
understanding of each other which as a result would help save marriages. This paper will look at how
both women lack communication, how they both their approach their emotional isolation differently,
and how their failure to communicate to their husbands and their approach, results in the failure to
save their marriage. The Painted Door and The Yellow Wallpaper are stories that show how both
women protagonists are emotionally isolated due to their failure to communicate their feelings and
desires to their husbands. Instead of direct communication to their husbands, the women find other

Sophocles Electra And Not The Orestes
Why is the play called the Electra and not the Orestes? That is, in what way does Sophocles make
Electra, and not Orestes, the focus of his play? Three great Athenian tragic poets Aeschylus, Sophocles
and Euripides addressed to the myth about the killing of Clytemnestra by Orestes. Sophocles s Electra
is one of the interpretations of this legend. Although the avenging one is Orestes, Sophocles brings
Electra to the fore because of her endless hatred and the will to take her revenge against her father s
murderers. First of all, Electra saves young Orestes from their mother Clytemnestra and her lover
Aegisthus who have killed Agamemnon Electra and Orestes s father. Paedagogus says: I rescued you,
entrusted by your sister s hand (Sophocles, Electra 13). Electra herself stays in the father s palace, but
she is no longer the lady there I labour in my father s house (Sophocles, Electra 183). So she has to
live with murderers and bear their treatment. The second reason to focus on Electra instead of Orestes
is her strength to fight against her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Electra s attitude to the others is Sophocles s attitude and the only right position. Electra becomes the
center of the play: she stands near Agamemnon s tomb and people come to her and speak, so the
reader can understand their position in the tragedy. Meanwhile, Orestes plays the role of the weapon,
but Electra is the force behind him. She says to Orestes: You never were your mother s boy so much as
mine (Sophocles, Electra 1113). At the end of the play, when the siblings are revenging, Electra is at
the height of her cruelty. It gets obvious that years of grief and torture have made her tough and
affected her mind, she has become obsessive with the idea of the revenge. But Sophocles asserts it is
the only fair outcome for

The Gas Of Houston Natural Gas
Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas of Houston (HNG), Texas and
InterNorth. Houston natural gas covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running
from east to west and InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from
north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company
sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In
the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123
million. InterNorth was a natural pipeline company located in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1984 InterNorth
had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a
buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low
debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and
borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed
heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore merging with Houston
Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984 InterNorth acquired
HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that
time. The negotiations for HNG were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for
HNG shares which were

Empty Nest Syndrome Analysis
I chose the link attached because the article is based on a study on parental health and well being in
relation to empty nest transition. When I read the article all that I can think of is my mother how she
felt when I left home. The study touches quite a bit of everything related to empty nest syndrome:
cultural differences, the type of relationship between parent and child, parents who works vice staying
at home mom (or dad) and off time launches and violation of social schedule expectations (Mitchell
Lovegreen, 2006). It would give a different perspective on my classmates on probable health issues on
parents when a child leaves home.
In 1983 I really did not have any thought on how my mother must have felt when I left home. I was
happy, I found myself a job away from home. By reading the chapter and the link that I have attached
on this subject, it gave me a different perspective on how my mother must have felt when I left home
and why she became very depressed. Unknown to me back then, she was grieving and was unable to
cope with her loneliness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

home leaving are important factors in shaping how parents respond to their children s leaving home.
The failure to comply or cope effectively with these normative demands may produce negative social

Taking a Look at Lipoproteins
Lipoproteins are multicomponent assemblies of lipids and proteins that form distinct molecules with
an approximate stoichiometric value between the lipid and protein components within the complex.
Lipoproteins exist with many types each with a specific molecular mass, size, density, physiological
role, and chemical composition.(devlin,57) The lipids and their derivatives may be covalently or non
covalently bound to the proteins. Lipoproteins show biodiversity in their forms, many enzymes,
antigens, toxins, structural proteins, transporters, emulsification agents in lipid uptake, and adhesins
are lipoproteins with an important network that supports the transportation of fats in blood stream and
inside and outside of cell, as building blocks using cholesterol to offer a great help in maintaining the
water content of the cell by building membranes, and keeping the internal structure organized.
Examples include High density lipoproteins and low density lipoproteins which help in fats relocation,
and their associated diseases like Atherosclerosis. Another group of diseases is associated with
bacterial lipoproteins physiological virulence of many medically relevant pathogens.

Similarities Between Abigail Williams And John Proctor
Camryn Wroblewski

American Literature
7 December 2015
(Creative Title) What would your impression be if your husband had an affair with your old servant?
Well, two characters in the play portray this action. In The Crucible, having fear is by getting
witchcraft accusations and the tension by one another. These fears are consistently because they have
angry towards one another. Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, illustrates the historical events of the
Salem witch trials which took in Salem, Massachusetts around 1692.
John Proctor and Abigail Williams were very different, but then again, had a few similarities. John
Proctor was married to Elizabeth Proctor for twenty years. When she turned ill, John fooled around

The definition of foil is a character whose characteristics oppose another character. Like Abigail
Williams, John Proctor goes through a primary adventure during the play. However, their paths go in
complete reversed routes. Proctor goes from guilt to a place of truth. At the end of act four, he finds
his goodness by getting hanged for telling the truth. While Abigail is jealous, manipulative, and a liar
who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because she can no longer have what she
wants. This connects to my life about how John Proctor is a brave man and would do anything for his
family. When I think the roles of a dad, what comes to mind is a provider, protector, knowledgeable,
and a role model. This explains perfectly who my dad was. Let s say when I was ten years I went into
the ocean and a shark had bitten me, my dad is the type of person who would come into the ocean,
knowing the shark is there, to rescue me and bring me to health. When I m sick, he gets me medicine
and takes me to a doctor. I don t think another person had more of a significant influence on me more
than my father.
Abigail and John in some shape or form came to the same reason. They both wanted to stay away
from arguing. They both care highly about their standing in the society. John cared about his name and
family life while Abigail cared about love and not wanting to go to jail.

The Diffusion Of The Italian Identity
Italian Fascism is an authoritarian and nationalistic system of government and social organization, it
was the political result of the relationship between socialist and nationalist rhetoric. It is a form of
governance which employs intolerant views and practices, advocating traditionalism, interventionism
and sameness rather than individualism. In order to promote their totalitarian ideals during the 1930s
to 1945 fascist politicians such as Benito Mussolini, who had previously been a socialist newspaper
editor, employed propaganda that included virtually all modes of media: the press, posters and film.
The widespread dissemination of totalitarian ideals infiltrated into the school system where young
Italians born from 1910 to 1935 were taught to obey and fight. The purpose of this paper is to analyse
the diffusion of the Italian Identity through fascist propaganda from 1922 1943 and the identity that
was diffused as a result of the exploitation of Mussolini s various propaganda mediums. Did fascist
propaganda contribute to the diffusion of an Italian identity? If so, what identity was diffused? The
etymology of fascism is denotative of power and dominance. For example, the term derived from the
Roman fasces which were bundles of rods bound to each other, carried in advance of Roman
magistrates. The rods were symbolic of power to punish through severe beating and the axes which
extended from the center were symbolic of punishment by death (Grolier Education p.110).

Why Did Edgar Allan Poe Use Allusion
With a dash of allusion, a sprinkle of imagery, and a pint of dark diction, once they all mix, you get the
dark and scary mood created in Edgar Allan Poe s writing. Edgar Allan Poe is a poetic writer and is
well known for his dark and scary stories and story elements. Edgar Allan Poe uses figurative
language, strong diction, and spooky words to build the mood in his works. Allusion is one of the
many craft elements Poe uses to create his dark and scary mood. Is on the Night s Plutonian shore! (
Raven ). This is an allusion to the Roman god of the underworld. The adjective Plutonian is meant to
make us think of all the scary things that one associates with the underworld: darkness, death, the
afterlife etc. This example shows his use of allusion impacting the text s mood. Perched upon a bust of
Pallas just above my chamber door ( Raven ). In line 41 Poe references Pallas Athena by saying that
the raven perches on a bust of Pallas that he has hanging above his door. Pallas Athena is the ancient
Greek goddess of wisdom. This is another allusion that helps build the mood of a dark and wise
setting. All of the allusions provide a string and dark mood by helping build it. Allusions can also

wondering, fearing, ( Raven ) is another good example of how he uses imagery to set the mood of
darkness in The Raven . The point is that imagery helps you see a dark and scary setting and action in
your mind, which helps how you understand what the text means and what it looks like. Diction helps

Simone Beauvoir
Throughout history, women have been constantly objectified and forced into submission by a male
dominated society. Simone de Beauvoir s philosophical work, The Second Sex, echoes this intense
oppression of women and reflects the first wave feminist movement. Her existentialist decoding of
genders resulted in the idea of the Other, which explores the phenomenon that women are forced into
the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter of The Second Sex, The Girl ,
Beauvoir further studies the idea of this oppression during one s transition from a girl into a woman.
Beauvoir states that no matter how much freedom and sense of self a girl holds, she is always forced
into the role of the Other in society. Beauvoir s idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beauvoir describes the relationship between men and women as, In her eyes, man embodies the Other,
as she does for the man; but for her this Other appears in the essential mode, and she grasps herself as
the inessential opposite him (Beauvoir 342). Men embody the Other in the eyes of women and are the
subject and absolute to women. On the other hand, women are referred as the Other and are
subordinate to men. She must be inessential in comparison to him, which is the exact opposite of the
relationship between Mako and Korra. Unlike the relationship between girls and men that Beauvoir
describes, Korra is the subject in relation to Mako. By himself, he is essentially nothing which
completely contradicts Beauvoir s idea of the Other. Without Korra, Mako is incomplete, his entire
identity is based off Korra. He speaks about himself in relation to Korra, It s harder being the Avatar s
boyfriend . His submission is shown through becoming inessential opposite [her] and that he is only
something in reference to Korra. He is not the absolute and disproves Beauvoir s claim that women

Diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer: It is important for patients to understand how thyroid cancer is detected
and then officially diagnosed. What usually occurs is that a physician will remove a thyroid nodule or
take a tissue sample of the nodule for futher investigation. A pathologist then closely examines the
tissue sample or nodule under a microscope and decides if the nodule is benign (95% to 99% of all
nodules that are biopsied are benign) or malignant (less than 1% of all nodules, and about 1% to 5% of

The Dark Knight And The Departed Film Analysis
Significant Connections
A significant connection between the four films The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan, The
Departed directed by Martin Scorsese, The Prestige directed by Christopher Nolan and Gone Girl
directed by David Fincher is the way in which the directors have manipulated the narrative structure to
engage the audience in contrasting ways. Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese used equally
weighted protagonists and antagonists in the films The Dark Knight and The Departed to create the
narrative structure in a sense so that the audience feels equally engaged by both characters.

only one of the two most important people in his life. This reinforces the idea of Batman s strength
becoming his greatest weakness by The Joker applying pressure to Batman, forcing him to question
his own morality. The Joker makes it clear that the protagonist and the antagonist in The Dark Knight

The Life of Oprah Gail Winfrey Essay
The Life of Oprah Gail Winfrey Oprah Gail Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 on the family farm in
Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her dad, Vermon Winfrey, who was stationed as a solider at a local base; and
her mother, Vernita Lee, were both young at the time of Oprah s birth. Her parents never married.
Shortly after she was born her mother found a job, as a maid, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Oprah was
left in the care of her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee. As a child Oprah never wasted a minute of her
young imaginative mind on something that seemed to be boring. Through her early years her only

Few people s work impact the society they lived in quite as much as Denis Diderot s did. Diderot, who
authored both of the given extracts as well as much of the encyclopedie was a French philosopher and
writer. He was born in France in 1713 in a provincial familty. He studied in a Jesuit school but
promptly lost his religious faith after studying in Paris. He went on to edit The Encyclopedie, which
was a translation and extension upon on the English Cyclopedia. Produced between 1751 and 1772,
the Encyclopedie was written with the purpose to collect the knowledge dispersed on the surface of

It played a major role in causing the French people to express displeasures as well as going on to
shape revolutionary thought and legislation passed by revolutionary governments. The ideas of
Diderot helped revolutionaries lay the foundations of their attempt to remake society. Diderot s careful
criticism of Christianity throughout his work helped spread the ideas that the Church and its power
within the state required much needed reform. Later on during the French revolution, one of the major
factors behind the revolutionaries attack on the church is the criticism of its irrationality caused by the

The Family Of A Family Ecomap
A family ecomap provides us with useful, visible information that allows us to see the immediate
family, support systems and stressors (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015). A family
ecomap was created for ED to demonstrate where support and stress comes from and develop
tragedies to improve the support and decrease the stressors. By utilizing the genogram for this family
we see the nuclear family consists of husband, wife, and two children. ED and BD both work full time
jobs and state they will not be able to retire until they are in their seventies. They have two grown
children that live independently from them. Their son lives in another state and is married with one
child. Their daughter lives locally and is remarried and has two children. The relationship between
their son and themselves is strong, where the relationship with their daughter is tense. The sibling
relationship is weak. ED states the primary reason her relationship with her daughter and her
grandkids are strained are related to her new husband. ED states that her husband does not like him
and they both believe he is using their daughter. She further states that when her daughter had left her
first husband she never dated and lived with them. She moved into her own home with the
grandchildren and after a few more years she meet her now husband. Stated that after he came along
the grandchildren and her daughter rarely see her or talk to her. She states she works from home and

Powwow Research Paper
I only remember going to one powwow in my life. It was several years ago when I was just a child at
the Cherokee National Holiday celebration. I have seen some other Native dancers at different events
but never formal powwows. I have always wanted to see more, but I have never had an opportunity to
see another one. So, when I saw I had an assignment where I was required to go to an American
Indian event, I knew I wanted to see another powwow. I looked on the Oklahoma Tourism website and
found the nearest one to where I live. It was the Restoring Harmony / Stand to Power Powwow at the
Westside YMCA in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I learned a lot about modern tribal initiatives dealing with
health, culture, and intertribal relations. The 11th Annual Restoring ... Show more content on

The regalia that the dancers were wearing was absolutely beautiful and the amount of craftsmanship
that some of them put in were awe inspiring. I watched several of the dance contests. The Tiny Tots
contest was so adorable and was great to see such young children actively participating in their
culture. Another favorite was what they called the Golden Age dancers, where community elders took
the stage. It meant so much to them, which was very profound. One of the older women looked very
similar to my grandmother and reminded me of her. The centerpiece of the entire celebration of when
the men s fancy dance contest occurred. These were people at the top of their craft dressed in beautiful
regalia. The realization that really struck me was just how modern a lot of the clothing and items were.
Some dancers wore noticeable machine made pieces; other wore bright neon colors that do not exist in
nature. I remember the powwow (probably a little over a decade ago), where most of clothing was
hand sewn and beaded. This change was something I did not expect, but comes with modernization of
any culture or tradition. Seeing how the dancers and the powwow itself have adapted to contemporary
times while also holding on to the essentials of their traditions was so fascinating to see

A New Kind of Dreaming
Conflicts and challenges cause the characters to change and grow
Introduction:
Anthony Eaton s a new Kind of Dreaming helps the reader to recognise the various challenges and
conflicts that cause the characters to change and grow. Anthony Eaton best expresses Jamie as an
outsider that is trying to find his place in the world, while uncovering the secrets of Port Barren s
shady past. This changes Jamie from an adolescent delinquent to a responsible and admirable person.
Jaime develops friendships that lead him to trusting and sympathetic qualities that are unusual for him
in his past of crime. Jamie faces a challenge to build a stronger relationship with Cameron, but this is
an obstacle for Cameron as he tries to understand Jamie and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Having Cameron in his life changed Jamie and challenged him to become a more preferable person.
Body Paragraph 2:
A challenge that Jamie has to face and overcome is when he tries to have some sense of belonging to
the community of Port Barren. Archie, his guardian throughout the novel, tells him his version of a
dreamtime story called The wanderers and the lost ones . This story challenges Jamie to think whether
he is lost or a wanderer. This makes him feel responsible for finding out who is disturbing the balance
and it is up to him to try and restore it. This is shown to the reader when Jamie thinks, It was weird, no
beginning, no middle, no end, no plot. And yet he couldn t shake the feeling that there was something
important behind the strange words. He pondered it but couldn t make anything of it [page 126]. The
story makes Jamie wonder who he is and how he belongs in the community. This challenges him to
think more about himself and what he needs to do to change and become a better person. This also
made him change the way he thought about himself, it made him to thrive to do the best he can.
Conclusion:
Jamie faces many conflicts and challenges throughout the novel and they all have an effect that makes
him change in character. Jamie s close relationship with Cameron helps him to thrive to be more

Operation Anaconda Command Structure
Command Structure of Operation Anaconda In the simplest of terms, command structures utilized
during combat operations are commanded by one commander with the resources and authority to plan
and execute operations. Prior to Operation Anaconda multiple dislocated command structures oversaw
operations within the same area of responsibility (AOR). During Operation Anaconda the lack of one
command structure with the authority over all assets and participants resulted in fratricide,
competition over assets, and other areas of inefficiencies and ineffectiveness. Command Structure and
locations before Operation Anaconda In the infancy of Operation Enduring Freedom the command
structure was dislocated, lacked complete oversight, and had other responsibilities that stacked the
deck against them to be able to properly prepare for Operation Anaconda. General Franks

Alpha Spectroscopy Is A Technique For Quantification Of...
Alpha spectroscopy is a technique for quantification of alpha particles and identification of its parent
radionuclide using a silicon diode semiconductor detector [Knoll, 2010]. These detectors operate in a
vacuum to enable them to detect alpha particles emitted from a source without degradation of the
alpha particle energy. The alpha particles are transformed into electrical pulses which are amplified
and shaped prior to conversion into a differentiated pulse height spectrum by a multichannel analyzer.
The resultant spectrum is characteristic of the energy of the originally alpha particle and can therefore
be used to identify the parent radionuclide [Boll et al, 1997].
This technique is excellent for differentiation of alpha emitters due to peak resolution of as high as 10
keV with typical resolution of 25 30 keV [Knoll, 2010]. The detection efficiency is relatively poor (3
20%), but because of the inherently low background of less than one count per hour in carefully
controlled systems, low minimum detection concentrations are achievable [Knoll, 2010]. The method
has a high sensitivity for detecting alpha emitting radionuclides. The ability to discriminate among
different energy levels can be used for isotope specific measurements. If the alpha source is prepared
in a proper way, there is no significant self absorption in the alpha source itself [Knoll, 2010].
The modern version of the silicon diode semiconductor detector is the passivated implanted planar

our founding members are able to blend the advantages of a partnership with the advantages of a

Moreover, LLC s offer many of the advantages of both the closely held forms of business (Sole

Most notable; reduced personal liability, relative simplicity to form and reduced regulatory operation
burden to the owners. Following are the key reasons that our founding members have chosen to

 Liability: The name of this form of business accurately describes one of its greatest advantages:
limited liability. LLC s share the same limits of liability afforded to corporations. Our owners are

Between John F Kennedy And Martin Luther King Jr
The Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal yet many African
Americans were denied equal liberty because of the color of their skin. Due to this unfit justice a small
group of gallant men began a long struggle to reshape a nation based on their view of equality. Among
these men, two stood out the most; John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Both were known to
many as inspirational and significant leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, whom invested their
power and belief towards equality. Three key events that led to the enactment of the Civils Right Act
of 1964 include John F. Kennedy s 1963 Civil Rights speech, Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream
speech, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lastly, these events ended public segregation and
led to employment equality for all regardless of their skin color. There was a point in time when
African Americans were beaten, harassed, and treated unfairly due to their skin color. Martin Luther

Mexico: The Place To Retire Although the stunning beaches and vibrant culture in Mexico are
intriguing, the Central American country of Mexico boasts numerous aspects that would attract me to
call it home in my elderly years. Next Avenue released an article saying:
Mexico knocked off last year s No. 1 Panama because you can live well there for under $1200 per
month, it s close to the United States, the locals are friendly, English is widely spoken in popular
retiree spots, the expat community is large (more than one million Americans live there), health care is

With all the places on Earth to live, Mexico attracts tourists and retirees from around the world.
Although other countries appeal to these groups of people, Mexico remains the number one
destination. Having never been out of the U.S. before, Mexico sounds appealing to me. Based on its
cost, climate and culture, and other important considerations like access to amenities and healthcare,
Mexico comes out consistently on top (How to retire to Mexico: A complete guide). Mexico may not
have been an obvious selection for American retirees and other global retirees, but it certainly caught
my attention as I ve researched possible destinations to retire.
Upon researching various retirement destinations, Mexico is the place I would choose to call home in
my later years. Along with the aforementioned benefits to a Mexico retirement, many Mexican
businesses have bilingual employees and print literature in English. Mexico s natural beauty and
welcoming culture, along with its strong family values, seems to fit my hopes for life beyond my

Critical Whiteness Studies
Critical Whiteness Studies: What is it? Is whiteness only a matter of skin pigmentation? Nyack (2007)
questions what would happen if we were to see whiteness as more of an organizing principle. Critical
Whiteness Studies (CWS), she explains, provides a radically different way to think about race and
challenge whiteness as the universal norm. If, additionally, we think of whiteness as a social construct
that includes white culture, ideology, racialization, experiences and emotions, we can understand that
CWS focuses on problematizing the normality of hegemonic whiteness which has allowed whites to
deflect, ignore or dismiss their role, racialization and privilege in race dynamics ... Show more content

The study of whiteness as a problem has been an African American tradition going back to Frederick
Douglass (Roediger, 2001). W.E.B. Dubois (1935) first used the term whiteness as an academic term,
noting it had substantive material value in terms of public deference, which he labeled a type of
psychological wage. Giroux (1997) points to the work of Ralph Ellison and James Baldwin, often
found in Black magazines throughout the 1960 1980 s, continuing to explore the concept of whiteness
in the public forum. The CWS approach to understanding racism, not as the fault of the oppressed, but
instead directing the focus toward the racially dominant, was continued by non white scholars
including Toni Morrison and bell hooks in the early 1990 s (Howard, 2004). In the late 1980 s, interest
in critically examining whiteness grew, inspired by Critical Race Theory. White authors including
David Roediger, Noel Ignatiev and Ruth Frankenberg began to explore whiteness. Other scholars of
color continued delve deeper into the study of whiteness including George Yancy , Cheryl Harris,

The demographic that Shoestring Ranch serves is everyone from the local community and anyone
who was once involved in the life of the rescued animals. From what I have seen when volunteering,

What I admire about Shoestring is that it does not matter who you are or where you came from, all
that matters is how you are trying to better yourself and the ranch. This situation could put some of the
children involved happier or more relieved than they might be in other situations such as school. At
school who they are and the stigmas that go along with who they are, the culture they belong to, and
how this culture is perceived by society on a constant basis and put right in front of their face
seemingly at all times. This predicament that these young people are experiencing could have negative
effects on these kids and affect the way they see themselves in a negative way. By going to Shoestring
it gives them a place to not worry about these types of these things, instead it gives them a place to be
free to who they want to be no matter what color or culture they have, which without the ranch they
might never have. It is a safe environment that gives them a chance to discover who they want to be,
not who society sees them as or believes they are. Though the people who own the horses in the

National Trust For Historic Preservation
Heritage tourism is a growing niche in the tourism industry and it is something that most tourists will
engage at. By breaking the term is separated into heritage and tourism, the term heritage is mainly
associated with the meaning of the inheritance of something that is passed on throughout the ages
(Nuryanti, 1996). Tourism can be interpreted as the movement to somewhere to experience a contrast
to the current way of living (Miller, 2015). The definition that the National Trust for Historic
Preservation provides, traveling to experience the places, artifacts and activities that authentically
represent the stories and people of the past and present explains heritage tourism very well (Hargrove,
2002). A more cynical definition explains heritage tourism as a contemporary commodity purposefully
created to satisfy contemporary consumption . For the purpose of this paper, heritage tourism shall be
defined as traveling to satisfy the feeling of contrast of experiencing the places, artifacts, and activities
that have undergone the passage of time through the guise of authenticity. Tourists going to see the
Roman Coliseum casually, or tourists participating in a local ritual, in this paper, would be both
considered as heritage tourism. It is also important to know the broker local tourist model, which is

Representation Of Indian Literature And Film
Representation of Maori in New Zealand narratives; literature and film, has been a criticised problem
by Maori and academics for centuries. I will explore the representation of Maori in film and literature
through a mana wahine context, directed by leading national and international mana wahine scholars.
My aim is to shed light on issues that surround Maori representation and issues within the Maori
community. My capstone project aims to give Maori a strong, self affirming voice. I want to reclaim
my identity and empower other Maori through my personal account of being Maori in a low socio
economic suburb. I believe that representations of Maori are stereotypical, derogatory, and false.
Therefore, these images reflect us to the wider community in vast negative lights. Most importantly,
these deceitful depictions negatively affect views Maori have of themselves. Professor Linda Tuhiwai
Smith is a pioneer of Kaupapa Maori Research. I will utilize her second edition of her book
Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous peoples (Smith 2012) as a framework. I will
compare and contrast what Smith has said in relation to other indigenous women academic s discourse
of race and gender such as Bell Hooks, Leonie Pihama, and myself. Decolonizing Methodologies is an
analytical investigation of the role Western academic research contributed to the process of
colonization of indigenous peoples, specifically Maori. It also explores intersections of imperialism

Moses And The Sin Of The Israelite
The actual painting is large suggesting that the artist really wants this painting to be seen. Moses is
seen as larger than life size but yet Moses character does not give off an theatrical or a daring persona.
In this painting the colors really give off the feeling of the painting as well as it s structure. In the
painting you see Moses holding the tablet over his head and the pitning stops right at his waist and
there are boulders constructing his path at all angles. The sin of the Israelites is so large that Moses
feels conflicted when he has to destroyed the tablets, that god has constructed and inscribed in. So the
artist places Moses in a inadequate space. This overall outputs the emotional aspect of the painting.

Plea Bargain Advantages
When most people think of criminal sentencing they think of a grand wooden courtroom with a full
jury and a proud judge in black presiding over it all, but that is far from the usual for those that are
accused of federal crimes. The reality of what happens after you are accused of a crime is much
different, as much of the bulk of those accused of a crime end up plea bargaining for a variety of
reasons, and very few people actually end up going to trial. An in depth look is necessary to really
understand the complicated truth of the relationship the plea bargain has with our justice system and
our citizens. To understand the plea bargain it takes looking into what originally it was made for, what
it represents now, and the effect it has on our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2013, while 8 percent of all federal crime charges were dismissed... more than 97 percent of the
remainder were resolved through plea bargains, and fewer than 3 percent went to trial. 3 It was the
goal at our country s founding that almost all citizens accused of a crime have a fair and impartial jury
trial to decide the innocence or guilt of the accused, and we know where and why that changed and the
effect it has on the system and government but what about the citizens and society? What about the
people the very system is meant to protect and serve? Despite the advantages plea bargaining gives to
the defendant it s very essence is assuming that the defendant is guilty, so what if they re not? It s not
all that uncommon to get the wrong guy when searching for a suspect especially when racial and class
profiling comes into the mix. So understanding the 8% being thrown out for this reason there s still a
lot of room for innocents still within the system, and going by the statistics it seems very likely that
there are innocents being forced, coerced, or outright bullied into plea bargaining

Values, Self Confidence And The Feeling Of Belonging
Values give us self awareness, self confidence and the feeling of belonging. They help us make the
right choices and force us to develop integrity. Values show us how to choose between different
priorities and give us an idea of what improvements we need to be made to improve our relationships
with others. When we act with these values they give us credibility, and help us to know where we
stand, and clarify what we will and will not tolerate. We make many choices daily, some have very
minor significance, others of extreme importance, and each one of these choices we make have a huge
impact not just on us, but those around us. Even a very small decision such as having a burger instead
of a salad could effect our health in the long run, and in result affect the people we love. There are
seven values that are absolutely essential for human survival. The seven include justice and fairness,
caring, respect responsibility, honesty, loyalty and liberty. These seven values play a major role in our
lives. Many of us forget these values that we have been taught. Living in this busy and fast paced
world, many us of neglect to practice these core values. The ethical couture of this world is spiraling
downward. We seem to be focused on ourselves rather than caring about others. I will be describing
how these seven essential values are expressed in my life and some areas that need some work. I strive

Symbolism In Flawed And Perfect By Cecelia Ahern
In the book series, Flawed and Perfect by Cecelia Ahern, the setting is set in the future where
everyone stays between the lines. There are two groups in this society: there are those who are perfect
which make up most of the population, and there are those who are flawed. Flawed people are treated
poorly and are forced to follow much stricter guidelines because they had done something that society
no longer accepted. Celestine is one of the few who decide to do what is right even if it is against what
others think. One theme that is presented in this book series is sometimes people have to go against
society s views to do what s right. In the story, Flawed, an example of author s craft appears early on
in the book. Here, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Celestine decides that she would nicely go ask the young ladies to move so that the sick old man is
able to sit in a seat. These ladies refused and questioned if she is helping a flawed which is a crime.
Celestine then helps the man to an open seat and the author states, There s an audible gasp in the bus. I
look around at everyone, the judgmental faces of surprise. (Ahern Flawed 47). This is significant
because she was the only one on the bus willing to stand up for the sick old man. This is the first time
in this book series that the readers actually see a character who doesn t follow the rest of the society
and is willing to step out of the lines to do what is right. She is a character who does not ignore the
people around her and is not solely focused on just herself. Celestine shows the theme because she
shows care for another person even though the rest of the views of the society she lives in wouldn t
dare think about it. Certainly, it can be said that Celestine is not trying to do the right thing, but is
choosing to just rebel against society. While this is a good point, it fails to show that the old man who
she helped was in fact dying and Celestine was just trying to assist the flawed man into a seat. She was
not trying to show that she could rebel, but just to do the right thing for an elder on the bus. Where this
logic seems to let down is when the author describes

  • 4. Chapter 9 Of The Great Gatsby The setting in the last chapter is unchanged from the start of the novel, which suggests that Alex s persona has behaved the same way. Even as Alex moves from place to place, the settings match up. At the beginning of chapter seven of part three, Alex is once again sitting in the Korova Milkbar with three other friends. At this point, the story seems to come full circle and creates a sense of Déjà vu since the setting of the first page was the same place. Burgess begins to incorporate a sense of change in the last chapter when Alex explains the heighth of fashion, which in those days was these very wide trousers and a very loose black shiny leather like jerkin over an open necked shirt with a scarf tucked in (Burgess 201). But this time Alex does not take part in the beating stating, more and more these days I had just been giving the orders and standing back to viddy them being carried out (202). This statement suggest that Alex has undergone some sort of change, however shallow it may be, because previously Alex would not have been able to resist getting in on the action. In both chapters, the friends move on to the Duke of New York bar and purchase drinks for the same three ladies. In contrast to the first chapter, older Alex hesitates to give away his money to them because these last days...there had come into his gulliver a like desire to keep all [his] pretty polly to [himself], indicating that he has become more economical (203). Corruption In Oliver Twist With his view on people, influenced by the faith of the goodness in humanity, Charles dickens portrays in a compassionate way the poor and overlooked s poor conditions in the 1800 century, in his popular novel Oliver Twist . London, it was here the industrial revelation commenced, and it became the biggest social alteration in history. People left their homes, and traveled from the countryside to the big city for work at the new factories. Millions came to let time pass by, while living in miserable poverty. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Sinclair Ross s The Painted Door are both stories about women protagonists who feel emotionally isolated from their husbands, who both go by the name John. Ann in The Painted the Door and the wife whose name may or may not be Jane in The Yellow Wallpaper are women who deal with emotional isolation. Emotional isolation is a state of isolation where one may be in a relationship but still feel emotional separation. In these two stories, both women feel emotionally isolated from their husbands due to lack of communication. In both stories, lack of communication results from one individual failing to disclose their true feelings and instead he or she are beating around the bush, hoping the other party will know what they want. If both parties directly disclose their desires and feelings to one another, there would be a better understanding of each other which as a result would help save marriages. This paper will look at how both women lack communication, how they both their approach their emotional isolation differently, and how their failure to communicate to their husbands and their approach, results in the failure to save their marriage. Three great Athenian tragic poets Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides addressed to the myth about the killing of Clytemnestra by Orestes. Sophocles s Electra is one of the interpretations of this legend. Although the avenging one is Orestes, Sophocles brings Electra to the fore because of her endless hatred and the will to take her revenge against her father s murderers. First of all, Electra saves young Orestes from their mother Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus who have killed Agamemnon Electra and Orestes s father. Paedagogus says: I rescued you, entrusted by your sister s hand (Sophocles, Electra 13). Electra herself stays in the father s palace, but she is no longer the lady there I labour in my father s house (Sophocles, Electra 183). So she has to live with murderers and bear their treatment. • 9. The Gas Of Houston Natural Gas Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas of Houston (HNG), Texas and InterNorth. Houston natural gas covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running from east to west and InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. InterNorth was a natural pipeline company located in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1984 InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore merging with Houston Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984 InterNorth acquired HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that time. The negotiations for HNG were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for HNG shares which were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Empty Nest Syndrome Analysis I chose the link attached because the article is based on a study on parental health and well being in relation to empty nest transition. When I read the article all that I can think of is my mother how she felt when I left home. The study touches quite a bit of everything related to empty nest syndrome: cultural differences, the type of relationship between parent and child, parents who works vice staying at home mom (or dad) and off time launches and violation of social schedule expectations (Mitchell Lovegreen, 2006). While Abigail is jealous, manipulative, and a liar who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because she can no longer have what she wants. • 14. The Diffusion Of The Italian Identity Italian Fascism is an authoritarian and nationalistic system of government and social organization, it was the political result of the relationship between socialist and nationalist rhetoric. It is a form of governance which employs intolerant views and practices, advocating traditionalism, interventionism and sameness rather than individualism. In order to promote their totalitarian ideals during the 1930s to 1945 fascist politicians such as Benito Mussolini, who had previously been a socialist newspaper editor, employed propaganda that included virtually all modes of media: the press, posters and film. The widespread dissemination of totalitarian ideals infiltrated into the school system where young Italians born from 1910 to 1935 were taught to obey and fight. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the diffusion of the Italian Identity through fascist propaganda from 1922 1943 and the identity that was diffused as a result of the exploitation of Mussolini s various propaganda mediums. Did fascist propaganda contribute to the diffusion of an Italian identity? If so, what identity was diffused? The etymology of fascism is denotative of power and dominance. For example, the term derived from the Roman fasces which were bundles of rods bound to each other, carried in advance of Roman magistrates. The rods were symbolic of power to punish through severe beating and the axes which extended from the center were symbolic of punishment by death (Grolier Education p.110). ... • 25. Alpha Spectroscopy Is A Technique For Quantification Of... Alpha spectroscopy is a technique for quantification of alpha particles and identification of its parent radionuclide using a silicon diode semiconductor detector [Knoll, 2010]. These detectors operate in a vacuum to enable them to detect alpha particles emitted from a source without degradation of the alpha particle energy. The alpha particles are transformed into electrical pulses which are amplified and shaped prior to conversion into a differentiated pulse height spectrum by a multichannel analyzer. The resultant spectrum is characteristic of the energy of the originally alpha particle and can therefore be used to identify the parent radionuclide [Boll et al, 1997]. This technique is excellent for differentiation of alpha emitters due to peak resolution of as high as 10 keV with typical resolution of 25 30 keV [Knoll, 2010]. The detection efficiency is relatively poor (3 20%), but because of the inherently low background of less than one count per hour in carefully controlled systems, low minimum detection concentrations are achievable [Knoll, 2010]. The method has a high sensitivity for detecting alpha emitting radionuclides. The ability to discriminate among different energy levels can be used for isotope specific measurements. If the alpha source is prepared in a proper way, there is no significant self absorption in the alpha source itself [Knoll, 2010]. • 31. National Trust For Historic Preservation Heritage tourism is a growing niche in the tourism industry and it is something that most tourists will engage at. By breaking the term is separated into heritage and tourism, the term heritage is mainly associated with the meaning of the inheritance of something that is passed on throughout the ages (Nuryanti, 1996). Tourism can be interpreted as the movement to somewhere to experience a contrast to the current way of living (Miller, 2015). The definition that the National Trust for Historic Preservation provides, traveling to experience the places, artifacts and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present explains heritage tourism very well (Hargrove, 2002). A more cynical definition explains heritage tourism as a contemporary commodity purposefully created to satisfy contemporary consumption . For the purpose of this paper, heritage tourism shall be defined as traveling to satisfy the feeling of contrast of experiencing the places, artifacts, and activities that have undergone the passage of time through the guise of authenticity. Tourists going to see the Roman Coliseum casually, or tourists participating in a local ritual, in this paper, would be both considered as heritage tourism. It is also important to know the broker local tourist model, which is Fig 2 in the appendix, and the terms will be defined subsequently. Brokers will be defined as any persons who in one way or another, manage, design or otherwise seek in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Representation Of Indian Literature And Film Representation of Maori in New Zealand narratives; literature and film, has been a criticised problem by Maori and academics for centuries. I will explore the representation of Maori in film and literature through a mana wahine context, directed by leading national and international mana wahine scholars. My aim is to shed light on issues that surround Maori representation and issues within the Maori community. My capstone project aims to give Maori a strong, self affirming voice. I want to reclaim my identity and empower other Maori through my personal account of being Maori in a low socio economic suburb. I believe that representations of Maori are stereotypical, derogatory, and false. Therefore, these images reflect us to the wider community in vast negative lights. Most importantly, these deceitful depictions negatively affect views Maori have of themselves. Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith is a pioneer of Kaupapa Maori Research. I will utilize her second edition of her book Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous peoples (Smith 2012) as a framework. I will compare and contrast what Smith has said in relation to other indigenous women academic s discourse of race and gender such as Bell Hooks, Leonie Pihama, and myself. Decolonizing Methodologies is an analytical investigation of the role Western academic research contributed to the process of colonization of indigenous peoples, specifically Maori. It also explores intersections of imperialism and history; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Moses And The Sin Of The Israelite The actual painting is large suggesting that the artist really wants this painting to be seen. Moses is seen as larger than life size but yet Moses character does not give off an theatrical or a daring persona. In this painting the colors really give off the feeling of the painting as well as it s structure. In the painting you see Moses holding the tablet over his head and the pitning stops right at his waist and there are boulders constructing his path at all angles. The sin of the Israelites is so large that Moses feels conflicted when he has to destroyed the tablets, that god has constructed and inscribed in. So the artist places Moses in a inadequate space. This overall outputs the emotional aspect of the painting. The conflict that Moses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Plea Bargain Advantages When most people think of criminal sentencing they think of a grand wooden courtroom with a full jury and a proud judge in black presiding over it all, but that is far from the usual for those that are accused of federal crimes. The reality of what happens after you are accused of a crime is much different, as much of the bulk of those accused of a crime end up plea bargaining for a variety of reasons, and very few people actually end up going to trial. An in depth look is necessary to really understand the complicated truth of the relationship the plea bargain has with our justice system and our citizens. To understand the plea bargain it takes looking into what originally it was made for, what it represents now, and the effect it has on our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2013, while 8 percent of all federal crime charges were dismissed... more than 97 percent of the remainder were resolved through plea bargains, and fewer than 3 percent went to trial. 3 It was the goal at our country s founding that almost all citizens accused of a crime have a fair and impartial jury trial to decide the innocence or guilt of the accused, and we know where and why that changed and the effect it has on the system and government but what about the citizens and society? What about the people the very system is meant to protect and serve? Despite the advantages plea bargaining gives to the defendant it s very essence is assuming that the defendant is guilty, so what if they re not? It s not all that uncommon to get the wrong guy when searching for a suspect especially when racial and class profiling comes into the mix. So understanding the 8% being thrown out for this reason there s still a lot of room for innocents still within the system, and going by the statistics it seems very likely that there are innocents being forced, coerced, or outright bullied into plea bargaining ... • 35. Values, Self Confidence And The Feeling Of Belonging Values give us self awareness, self confidence and the feeling of belonging. They help us make the right choices and force us to develop integrity. Values show us how to choose between different priorities and give us an idea of what improvements we need to be made to improve our relationships with others. When we act with these values they give us credibility, and help us to know where we stand, and clarify what we will and will not tolerate. We make many choices daily, some have very minor significance, others of extreme importance, and each one of these choices we make have a huge impact not just on us, but those around us. Even a very small decision such as having a burger instead of a salad could effect our health in the long run, and in result affect the people we love. There are seven values that are absolutely essential for human survival. The seven include justice and fairness, caring, respect responsibility, honesty, loyalty and liberty. • 36. Symbolism In Flawed And Perfect By Cecelia Ahern In the book series, Flawed and Perfect by Cecelia Ahern, the setting is set in the future where everyone stays between the lines. There are two groups in this society: there are those who are perfect which make up most of the population, and there are those who are flawed. Flawed people are treated poorly and are forced to follow much stricter guidelines because they had done something that society no longer accepted. Celestine is one of the few who decide to do what is right even if it is against what others think. One theme that is presented in this book series is sometimes people have to go against society s views to do what s right. In the story, Flawed, an example of author s craft appears early on in the book. Here, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Celestine decides that she would nicely go ask the young ladies to move so that the sick old man is able to sit in a seat. These ladies refused and questioned if she is helping a flawed which is a crime. Celestine then helps the man to an open seat and the author states, There s an audible gasp in the bus. I look around at everyone, the judgmental faces of surprise. (Ahern Flawed 47). This is significant because she was the only one on the bus willing to stand up for the sick old man. This is the first time in this book series that the readers actually see a character who doesn t follow the rest of the society and is willing to step out of the lines to do what is right. She is a character who does not ignore the people around her and is not solely focused on just herself. Celestine shows the theme because she shows care for another person even though the rest of the views of the society she lives in wouldn t dare think about it. Certainly, it can be said that Celestine is not trying to do the right thing, but is choosing to just rebel against society. While this is a good point, it fails to show that the old man who she helped was in fact dying and Celestine was just trying to assist the flawed man into a seat. She was not trying to show that she could rebel, but just to do the right thing for an elder on the bus. Where this logic seems to let down is when the author describes ...
