Similarities Between The Scarlet Ibis And Simon Birch
The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch taught many lessons within their stories, Al Franken, a writer once
said, Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life
lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it s a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can
learn from. Despite the fact that both The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch are parallel they share many
distinctions. The disparity between these two individual stories is setting, characters, and lessons. In
both The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch, both boys push their limits to the point of death; these two
characters have strong will power. At the beginning of the story the brother of Doodle is having a
flashback about Doodle. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Simon and Joe were best friends and did everything together they were inseparable. Simon was a

Joe lost his mother, Simon was willing to give Joe his baseball cards which are his most prized
possession. Simon and Joe are so close they are willing to anything for each other. Even Simon was
helping Joe find his father no matter the cost. Just like Joe saved Simon from drowning in the bus of
the lake. These two are kind hearted kids willing to do anything for anyone and even saved those
children on the bus. In Simon Birch, Joe and the brother in The Scarlet Ibis have different
personalities, values, and views between each story. The brother is cold hearted while Joe is kind
hearted and is not selfish at all. Joe accepts Simon for who he is and does nothing to change him while
the brother tries to change Doodle because he does not match his

Mutual Funds Advantages And Disadvantages
1. Mutual Funds(Open ended) A Mutual Fund is an investment vehicle that is made up of a pool of
funds collected from many investors for the purpose of investing in securities such as bonds, stocks,
money market instruments and identical assets. Advantages: 1. Liquidity An advantage of mutual
funds is the ability to get in and out with relative ease. In general, you are able to sell your mutual
funds in a short period of time without there being much difference between sale price and the most
current market value. 2. Diversification By purchasing mutual funds, you are provided with the
immediate benefit of instant diversification and asset allocation without the large amounts of cash

Certainty about the specific investments in trust The money placed in an investment trust is used to
capitalize a fixed portfolio. Unlike mutual funds or hedge funds, for some investors, this is a key
advantage because they are given the ability to always know what they own. Disadvantages: 1.
Opportunity cost This means that by putting money in unit trust, you lost the opportunity to use it
elsewhere. Of course there is no guarantee that putting the money elsewhere will yield better returns.
In the same way, putting money in unit trust prevents you from investing it elsewhere, such as,
directly in the stock market. 2. Fees and charges The services provided by the unit trust fund managers
are not free. There are fees and charges payable by the unit holders to the unit trust schemes. Granted
these fees are almost negligible compared to the professional expertise received by the investors, it is
something the unite holders have to bear. 5. Other type of funds 1. Money market funds It is open

bills or Government bonds. Money market funds are greatly recognize as being really safe and give a

Piano Lesson Symbolism Essay
August Wilson s use of symbolism is an important and effective method of storytelling in The Piano
Lesson. Symbolism is a technique used by writers to associate one object or idea with another. This
technique is essential in The Piano Lesson due to the small scale, rural environment in which the story
is told. Important thoughts and ideas that Wilson is trying to portray about African American society
could never be expressed without symbolism, due to this small setting. There are many examples of
symbolism in The Piano Lesson, but one can get a good idea of the importance of this technique by
exploring some of the more prevalent ones. The most recognizable symbol throughout the story is the
piano that the family owns. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

way he remembered him. (44) The piano is a symbol of the family because it is literally covered with
this history. Doaker states that Boy Charles say it was the story of our whole family and as long as
Sutter had it . . . he had us (45) Under normal circumstances, a piano would not be something valuable
enough to risk your life in order to steal. However, it is clear that Boy Charles viewed it as an
important family heirloom, a symbol of their family history. By stealing the piano, he hopes to end the
control that Sutter has over them. We see in the story that the ghost of Sutter is still haunting the
family, through the piano. At the same time the piano is a symbol of family history, it is also a link to
the slavery that the family had to endure. It is only through playing the piano, not through some
christian exorcism, nor by physically fighting Sutter that they are able to drive off the ghost of Sutter.
Boy Willie says Hey Berniece if you and Maretha don t keep playing on that piano ain t no

Oprah Winfrey Is Not Just A Woman
Oprah Winfrey is not just a woman, she is an institution. The multi billion African American woman is
continuously ranked number one on the Forbes list of most powerful American celebrities. Why is she
so extremely successful? The reasons why Oprah Winfrey is on top of Forbes list of most influential
American celebrities are primarily her high profile and the many mentions in the press and social
networks. Forbes states, Unlike most Forbes lists, which are based on earnings or net worth, our
annual Celebrity 100 takes a stab at measuring that most ephemeral of riches: fame (Forbes.com). This
paper will analyze Oprah Winfrey as an icon, the shining example of someone who made it as well as
why she is considered one of the most powerful women in the world.
Before Oprah Winfrey was Oprah

The Life of an Immigrant Black Woman Essay
Hardship and loss of freedom comes to mind as I think about an immigrant black woman. If they had
other forms of persuasion other then the glamour or positive side of England that they heard about

black woman still be as naïve?
Once becoming a part of a different society, she has to adapt to the ways that she is unfamiliar with.
She has to erase in a form of what she knows and feels is correct to from her true self. I am staring

The Know Nothings gained support from blue collar American workers, who were fearful of losing
their job to Irishmen, which was a justified belief at the time. Lewis Levin, the first known leader of
the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without question, which
would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know Nothing spread their
message of fear, through the spreading of rumors and lies about Irish workers, as noted by Bruce
Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and the origins of the
know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving drunkards, poor
material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists added, aggravated
the problem by promoting ignorance and low superstition and offering comforting, exculpatory rituals
(notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the
canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that the common man would share their view of
the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have brought into the country. The know nothing
party broke up, after their defeat in the 1860 elections, where they failed to get any of their members

Stanley s Milgram Experiments
In the Stanley Milgram experiment different people were chosen to do an experiment where they had a
man under cover and asked him questions. If he got the answer wrong he was shocked. Each time he
answered incorrectly the voltage was increased. The voltage started from forty five and increased all
the way up to four hundred and fifty. The actor was placed in a room where the test subjects could not
see them. The point of this experiment is to see if the subjects are willing to continue the experiment
even though they observed that the actor is in pain, just because a man in a white jacket tells them to.

Similarities Between Slang And Sling
Slang is language which takes off its coat, spits on its hand, and goes to work.
1. EtyDefiniSlangmology
Throughout this sub chapter the Os and Ds shall be analyzed, which implies slang s birthplace and

strongly believed that slang was cognate with slengjeord, a new word , slengjenamn, a nickname , and
slengja kjeften, literally to sling the jaw, hence to abuse . Some make a connection between slang and

By all means the last definition is adjacent to presently slang, but still not close enough. In order to
move forward, it is highly needed to underline the distinctiveness between informal (non standard)
and formal (standard) style as slang s various definitions were related to these notions. First of all,
standard language can be seen as the official and the most prestigious style because of its elitist and
literate vocabulary, grammatical and full sentences based on recognized rules, and clean orthography.
Standard English is suitable for use in every type of written or spoken situation because it addresses a
hypothetical general audience. Secondly, on the opposite line abides the informal style which includes
a familiar vocabulary that is not always understood by outsiders, used in unofficial and relaxed
contexts. Formal language can be more common when writing, while informal language is more
common when speaking. The later is also called colloquial style that derives from Latin col together
and loqui to speak . This type of parlance gives the impression of friendliness, warmth, endearment
and mildness. During its life, slang was related to colloquial language, which means that it may not be

Essay On Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular dystrophy is a lethal sex linked disorder characterised by progressive muscle weakness and
muscle degeneration. It has been a medical problem for many years. In particularly Duchenne
muscular dystrophy (DMD) for it is the most frequently occurring and one of the most rapidly
progressive in children neuromuscular disorders (MDA, 2015). DMD affects approximately 1 in 3600
live male births throughout the whole world (MDA, 2015). DMD can cause or create an array of
difficulties for diagnosed patients depending on how bad the patient s case of DMD is. This is all as a
result of the faulty or lack of the dystrophin gene, making it incredibly difficult for these patients to do
simple activities like walking and running.
Currently there is no cure for DMD, but certain exercise therapy and muscle building medicines to
slow down or reverse the progression of muscular dystrophy. Other treatments are being tested to see
if they could control or suppress the symptoms of DMD. These treatments include; albuterol, amino
acids, coenzyme Q10, carnitine, fish oil, creatine, green tea extracts and vitamin E (Haldeman Englert,
2015). Despite these few temporary treatments it is said that gene therapy could be used for human

years longer than the boys who are not treated with steroids (MDA, 2015). The steroids can also help

The Impact of Outsourcing on the U.S. Economy Essay
It is difficult to determine whether offshore outsourcing has a positive or negative effect on the U.S.
economy. It may actually depend on which perspective you take on it. As stated by Hira and Hira
(2005), outsourcing in the services sector is a major shift in how the economy operates and will have
serious impacts, both positive and negative, on the trajectory of economic growth, distribution of
income and the workforce. However, there are many factors to take into account when considering
globalization. Companies must familiarize themselves with the various rules and regulations of global
business, tariffs, trade agreements and barriers, and decide how to go global; global consistency or
local adaptation. All of these issues affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the U.S. economy may also benefit if companies reinvest the extra profits gained from
outsourcing for expansion in the U.S. This creates more jobs at home, but again, this is a long term
effect of outsourcing and depends on how successful that business is overseas. Exporting presents
many advantages including reduced dependency on home market sales and greater control over
research, design and production decisions. Conversely, many exported goods are subject to tariff or
nontariff barriers and transportation costs that may substantially increase the final cost to consumers
(Williams, 2009.) Some companies stand to benefit from exporting. Large U.S. based organizations
are strongly in favor of their companies free ability to export U.S. jobs and have no interest in taking
responsibility for the consequences to their employees. Basically, this means that the CEOs,
executives and shareholders support offshore outsourcing because they stand to gain from rising
profits and stock prices while employees here at home are losing their jobs to free trade and
offshoring. The U.S. is in a period of transition in which many companies have just discovered the
benefits of outsourcing, so they are anxiously scrambling to substitute cheaper foreign labor for
American labor. The direct transfer of work overseas is growing much faster than the

The Paint-Personal Narrative
When I was about 10 years old, I like to play many sports, ranging from basketball to soccer. What I
didn t know was that I was going to start participating in another sport .
In January of 2013, my dad said that we were going to get some paint. Inside the hot, non air
conditioned Prius, with my brother Ryan and my dad, we finally stopped half an hour later at a Bass
Pro Shop in Victoria Gardens. My dad told us that we were going to take a break and just to sit down
near the entrance of the store. As a man and a kid slowly approached us, I suddenly realized that we
were waiting for two of our family s friends. (I ll just say that the man s name is John and the kids

Comparing The Gospel Of Mark And Matthew
In regard to teaching style, the extent to which Jesus teaches by authority varies in the Gospel of Mark
and Matthew. Jesus teaching style in Matthew is overall more authoritative. Both Mark and Matthew
tell that Jesus taught as one having authority, and not as their scribes (Matthew 7: 28 29, Mark 1: 22).
In the Gospel of Matthew, the authoritative phrase But I say to you appears 12 times in the Sermon on
the Mount. However, such a repetitive and declarative phrase is not commonly seen in Mark.
Other than the extent to which Jesus taught by authority, a common feature of Jesus teaching style in
both Mark and Matthew is his use of repetition. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks of imminent

Essential oils are the regenerating, oxygenating, and immune defense properties of plants. A pure

structure, essential oils applied to the skin can be easily absorbed into the bloodstream. When essential
oils are inhaled, they pass through the tiny air sacs to the surrounding blood capillaries by the process
of diffusion. Once in the bloodstream the aromatic molecules interact with the body s chemistry.

The Red Horses By Franz Marc Essay
The German artist Franz Marc painted the painting The Red Horses. He was born on February 8,
1880. Most of Franz Marc s influence came from his father who was a landscape artist. As a result of
this, his earliest works were painted in the naturalistic academic style. When Marc met Wassily
Kandinsky in 1910, he joined an expressionist group. Most of the colors that Franz used in his
paintings had a meaning to him or to the painting. The different aspects and the thought that Marc put
into his paintings really made them come together and become what they are now. Marc and
Kandinsky soon formed their own group, called Der Blaue Reiter. Their philosophy in painting
paintings derived from nature was that the painting itself should reflect the spiritual essence of the
object or animal as opposed to the physical embodiment. In 1912, Marc s works became more abstract

In 1911, Germany was being industrialized very quickly, and urbanization was at an all time high. By
this time in his artistic career, Franz Marc had developed an idea of symbolism for the colors used in
his paintings. This was largely influenced by his friendship with Kandinsky. The colors used in The
Red Horses were largely naturalistic colors; there are no neon or unnatural colors. The beginning of
the 20th century in Germany was where expressionism originated. This movement had a large impact
on Marc s paintings as most of his works were of the expressionist movement. His paintings were not
focused on the physical details of the painting, but on the mood and ideas that he was trying to relate
to the viewer. Franz Marc created several paintings in the year of 1911, and a vast majority of them

Folly And Reconstruction
The first episode of Eyes on the Prizes continues our study of American culture and politics by
revisiting the plight of the African Americans in the United States. Their struggle to claim the
freedoms and equalities outlined in the constitution was a daunting task. The period of Reconstruction
following the Civil War was scrapped and labelled a failure by Northerners and Southerners alike.
Both parties clung to myths that African Americans had been irresponsible with the freedoms provided
to them by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Amendments to the Constitutional.
Despite common perceptions of black folly and Reconstruction failure, the era proved to be an
invaluable period which laid the ground work for African American victories during the Civil Rights

Lipsle Analysis Case Study
A STEEPLE analysis is a strategic marketing tool that allows business owners to take a closer look at
the external factors that could affect the day to day running of the business. The external factors a
STEEPLE analysis includes are sociological, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal
and ethical.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, it was clear that sociological factors affect Leon
substantially. One factor that has affected Leon is education; this is due to the new training
programme, Wing Tsun, Vincent has adopted in a bid to improve performance, reduce wastage and
promote staff wellbeing. Since starting, Leon s baristas have knocked 30 seconds off their time which
is now 4 minutes 30 seconds to make 6 perfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, another factor that I found within the (EMA, 2016) case study was that Leon plan to
open its first site outside of the UK, which will be located within Amsterdam s Schipol airport and will
be the first of a few sites within northern Europe. This will impact Leon greatly as increasing the
number of chain restaurants will be costly at first but then will provide further income which will
boost their economic growth.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a
substantial amount. For example, Leon s new training programme, Wing Tsun, is not only a way to
improve performance but also to reduce wastage. This new programme was introduced after Vincent,
the co founder of Leon, stated in an interview that the purpose of business should be to make the lives
of humans and the health of the planet better. Therefore, by introducing the new programme that helps
reduce the wastage of Leon s restaurants, Vincent s company is helping the health of the planet.
Leon may have political factors that affect their business on a day to day basis but there wasn t any

What Are The Similarities Between Hinduism And Confucianism
Hinduism is a major religion in India, Nepal and a few other Asian countries. It has more than 900
million followers throughout the world nonetheless this religion has no individual founder, no singular
scripture, no single set of teachings that are uniformly believed and followed by all Hindus. Hinduism
is said to exist as a supreme being while both Buddhism and Confucianism are based upon the
teachings of a man. Taoism revolves around a concept (Kokemuller, 2005). All of them have
significant similarities and differences. Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism, and its founder
Gautama lived as a Hindu. Both religions share common features such as place of origin, belief in
reincarnation, and belief in different paths taken to attain enlightenment. ... Show more content on

Is Banning Skinny Models the Solution to the Rising Amount of Eating Disorders?
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people tune in to watch Fashion Week runway shows from
around the world, with designers presenting new collections every season. From New York to Milan, it
is impossible to miss a controversial detail within the shows, the skeleton thin models showcasing the
designs. Not only are these models harming themselves in order to fit into the industry s expectations,
but they may also be setting a dangerous example for the public audience. Because thin girls are

Psychologist Jane Callaghan expresses that a positive body image doesn t rely solely on the
comparisons to other girls (Callaghan). Media images are only a tiny contributing factor (Callaghan)
to the development of eating disorders. Other forces include a genetic predisposition to the mental
illness, low self esteem, and societal pressure (Mayo Clinic Staff). Callaghan explains that the
development of eating disorders often relies on one s attempt to control these external forces
(Callaghans). Understanding that there are factors affecting ones body image other than media
exposure, Callaghan argues that attacking these external forces, such as peer pressure and societal
misogyny, could be more effective than eliminating thin girls from the fashion industry, seeing as how
medias perpetual portrayal of thin girls is not the main cause for the rising rate of eating

Compare And Contrast Politics And Political System
Here in this topic an issue arises that why we do compare and compare the political systems of the
different regions, states, and countries and as well as domestic politics.
To answer the bigger question what is politics and political systems. Politics mean the activities
associated are attached with the governance of a country or area especially the debate between parties
or regimes having power. Politics is also to struggle to gain power to rule and govern governments. On
the other hand governments have access to resources and powers to rule over people and as well as
empower people through the majority winning political party who wins to rule and impose.
Some philosophers consider politics it forces for good while others take it as force for evil. In

Analyzing Nampeyo s Painting The Americas

First piece is a shallow bowl, hand coiled and outdoor fired, about 6 inches width, and 2 inches length,
and height. The piece was made in america, in 1901 by Nampeyo, in Arizona. The bowl looks almost
wooden, the artist probably used brown clay. The painting inside the bowl, looks like a abstract bird
form, with a stylized eagle tail. Nampeyo used black and red paint, and a lot of different shapes.
Starting from the bottom, it looks like two triangles that curve and join the black thin lines in, the
inside rim of the bowl. Above that are two lines probably indicating that she moving on to a different

infamous poets of the 20th century. Many of Plath s poems, such as this one, belong to a particular
school of poetry known as Confessional Poetry. With a distinct style all their own, Plath and her

Confessional poetry gained its momentum in 1959 with the publication of Robert Lowell s Life
Studies and W.D. Snodgrass s Heart s Needle. Robert Lowell was born in Boston in 1917, and initially
entered the world of poetry by writing formal poems in the style of the New Critics. Although he
received ample praise for his work, Lowell s personal life wasn t so happy he dealt with marital strife
and serious depression, and was hospitalized on a number of occasions. In his mid fifties, he was
influenced by other Confessional poets to delve deeper into his personal experience, and consequently
attempted more autobiographical and free style poems. His poem Man and Wife reflects his marital
troubles when it concludes:
Now twelve years later you turn your back Sleepless, you hold your pillow to your hollows like a
child, your old fashioned tirade loving, rapid, merciless breaks like the Atlantic Ocean on my head.
This poem nicely reflects the autobiographical aspect of Confessional poetry, as anyone aware of
Lowell s personal life would realize how true the words ring. Poems filled with so much genuine
emotion help to bring the reader into an empathic position, and to actually imagine being in the
speaker s situation.

Dictatorism In The Hunger Games
Allowing people to get their needs for food and entertainment, without too much effort on them, was
what many different dictatorial societies did to control their communities for certain periods of time,
in the past. This was also dictatorial society s method to gain control over the districts and the Capitol
s people of the country called Panem in The Hunger Games trilogy of young adult dystopian novels
written by American novelist Suzanne Collins. These games were an entertainment that provided a
place for the Capitol s riches to spend time and money in abundance, a dusty page reminiscent of
capitol s victory in the war against districts, and a coercion to show off the capitol s power.
Hunger Games were very popular in districts as well as in the Capitol. People in the Capitol loved
hunger games because it was so exciting and breathtaking. Every year tributes came from other
districts in train and Capitol people waited there for them. Cheering, shouting for the new hunger

a tribute train rolling into the city. I step away from the window, sickened by their excitement,

Why We Should Introduce Australia
Principal, teachers, parents and friends welcome. Thank you for this opportunity to speak to you
today.
Are you all aware that there are over 7000 languages spoken in the world today? In recent years,
Australian schools located in metropolitan area were just starting to introduce languages classes other
than English, such as French, Chinese or Indonesia. So that student could choose any other languages
that offer, as their second language. Compares to China, English are compulsory throughout lower and
upper schools and I personally believe that this will result in having a disadvantage position for us as
Australians.

makes it an ideal location if a company were to seek to attract business via a fashion show. Relative to
other fashion oriented communities New York is fairly out of the way in terms of distance, but the

The Entertainment and Media Culture
There are many different forms of entertainment media that has made an impact on the American
culture. However, the one I feel that has made the biggest impact on American culture is the music
industry.
I say that because, if you look at the music from the 50 s and the 60 s, the music was smooth, it spoke
to the teens and the adults in a certain way, the kids danced in a calm manner, they danced in a
respectful manner. In the 70 s and 80 s, the music took on a distinctive style, therefore, the dances and
the clothing took on a different style. The clothing began to show body parts, the stomach was the
main part that showed. In the 50 s and 60 s you just did not do that. You kept your body covered.
When the music changed, the kids changed.
In the 80 s and 90 s, it took on more of a drastic change. Rap came on the scene, as well as, the disco
era. When this era came about, the kids changed even more. Their clothing, haircuts, and even their
language changed. It got to be such a drastic change where men were wearing makeup and as much
jewelry as the women were. Then came the Gangsta Rap, which brought about the gang scene.
Everybody was wearing their clothes extra big and baggy. The wearing of a certain color meant you
represented a certain gang and the wearing of your cap meant something else, however, it all
represented gang signs.

Abstract
Our decision making might change as a consequence of interacting with a single individual or a group

Negative Effects Of Egocentrism
We are a social species. We reproduce sexually and thus our relationships with those around us are
essential to our ability to succeed as an individual. With these ideas in mind, society has come to
denounce egocentrism and to view those who are prone to it as undesirable and incapable of success.
Egocentrism is defined in the Oxford dictionary as Thinking only of oneself, without regard for the
feelings or desires of others. In the eyes of most, to think only of oneself is to be parasitic to all others.
To lack empathy is to be inherently indifferent which precedes unsuccessfulness. Why is it then that
there are so many stories of cruel billionaire businessman mistreating their employees and loved ones?
How can people that disregard the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in my experience, for an egomaniac money, sex, and other transient pleasures are just as
good as long term relationships. Love and happiness are chemical cocktails. These chemicals present
themselves just as readily in fleeting relationships; commitment is unnecessary to their appearance.
More than that, a self centered person, barring any mental illness, can choose whether they behave
egocentrically or benevolently in their relationships depending on what they find advantageous. But,
the instability of relationships among the egocentric can also be harmful to their empathetic friends
and romantic partners. This case is a bit more tricky, it can be somewhat difficult to just choose to hate
someone even if exposure to them is harmful. Is it really fair to let egotism go unchecked if it
destabilizes relationships and causes emotionally harmed to the less naturally egotistical? Truthfully,
one must manage their own relationships. If one experiences emotional distress due to someone else s
self obsession it is his own fault for becoming involved with an egomaniac. Egocentrism is inherently
harmful to interpersonal relationships, but that is the problem of the egomaniac and nobody

How Does Bloor Present The Theme Of Tangerine Change...
Our first instinct when change is near to intertwining with our lives is to run away from the monster
that might turn our lives around in seconds. Nevertheless, Edward Bloor tackles this belief in his novel
Tangerine with his own unique perspective, that change could result to a new start or adventure if we
are willing to accept it into our lives. The novel Tangerine follows the perspective of Paul Fisher:an
aspiring soccer star, the supposedly imperfect younger brother of golden boy Erik Fisher, and legally
blind. Most people would assume being blind is Paul s worst burden, but with Paul moving to

he settled in as one of the town s inhabitants. Also, Paul learned the truth in Tangerine, so he sealed his

Gardner s Pedophilia
Gardner believed that all human sexual paraphilias, such as pedophilia, sadism, rape, necrophilia,
zoophilia, coprophilia, and other paraphilias, served a beneficial purpose in a species survival by
enhanc[ing] the general level of sexual excitation in society. Many of his misogynistic and pedophilic
viewpoints have been intertwined into the development of his rational behind PAS and its treatment.
In regards to women, Gardner argued that a woman s physiology and conditioning make[] them

Furthermore, Gardner blamed a father s sexual molestation of his child on the mother, who he
suggested was not satisfying the sexual needs of her husband, which resulted in him turning to his
child for sexual gratification. Gardner claimed that mothers, who alleged allegations of a child s
sexual abuse, where satisfying their own sexually inhibited needs by visualizing the child with their

Abstract
This paper examines the stock and accounting performance of three major airlines in the United States
in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. September 11 (9/11) resulted in dramatic
changes in the airline industry and had significant implications for the economic gains and future
prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low

typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the
offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour
contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s
market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share
relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden,
were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These
developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are
perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the
firm s stock.
When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the
systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between
risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically.
Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that
Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors

billion. Penetrating other markets may be better only if joint ventures are achieved, a prime example
of that is the joint venture with Tata (IB times, 2014a).
Even though Tesco are using more money than any other retailer with their marketing budget, Tesco s
marketing is deemed unsuccessful. Tesco have failed marketing their brand well, Tesco s clubcard
does not allow them to spend their marketing budget properly. Removal after using the data for Ansoff
s matrix may be the best option.

Determinism Vs Libertarianism
Akash Shankar Richard Pulling 7 23 2015 Philosophy Are You Free The concept of determinism,
compatibilism and libertarianism is truly trying to explain if we are free and if so how much. Some of
us believe that we are the masters of our fate, our soul while others believe our destiny is
predetermined and that we are bound to a certain set goal in life. The concepts of determinism,
compatibilism and libertarianism try to help aid in that discussion and help enlighten us on what we
believe is the correct ideology. It is therefore extremely important to define what each of these three
concepts mean before comparing and contrasting the various arguments that each present. First off is
determinism, this is a view that every event, including human ... Show more content on

For example the deterministic view has one major weak side that is clearly seen in the Loeb and
Leopold case. Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold were two young men who had privileged families
and attended the best schools. However they murdered a fourteen year old boy to experience the thrill
of killing someone. The public wanted the death penalty to be handed down but attorney Clarence
Darrow fought and won a life imprisonment verdict (Chaffee 177).The attorney employed a hard
determinist argument to show the judge that his clients were victims of circumstance and they were
beyond their own control. He even says in the trial that nature is strong and she is pitiless. She works
in her own mysterious way, and we are her victims (Chaffee 177). His argument obviously worked as
the two young men were not sentenced to death. This one case in my opinion shows how determinism
does not make sense to me. I absolutely believe that the environment and the way were brought up has
an effect on how we act on the decisions we make. But at the end of the day I also believe that we
should be fully help responsible for the actions that we make. These two young men in my opinion
should have been punished to the full degree. The deterministic argument puts too much emphasis on
the environment and other factors instead of one s self in my opinion. I could be taught and raised to
steal my entire life, yes I may have been

Different Types of Nuclear Energy Essay
As a source of energy, nuclear energy provides a safer alternative, for the production of energy for
large scale consumption. There are two different types of nuclear energy; nuclear fission and nuclear
fusion. Nuclear fission is the process in which a nucleus spits into two or more smaller nuclei. Nuclear
fusion is the process in which two nuclei fuse together to form a larger nuclei. Nuclear reactors can
become unstable creating an uncontrollable nuclear reaction. The effects of this can be seen in
Chernobyl. Reactors have been designed safer after this disaster.

The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which then
turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of
electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to
build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main
components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are
all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods.
The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs
excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a
thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma
radiation given off.
Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than
fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20
million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity. This nuclear waste takes
centuries to become safe. Klaus Rolf, a member of Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, believes he
can make radioactive waste safe in decades instead of centuries. Rolf claims to have cult the half life
of sodium by 1%. This was done by

Gmo: the Value Versus Growth Dilemma
GMO: The Value Versus Growth Dilemma |
1. What is value investing? What is its rationale? What are GMO s main arguments in favor of value
investing?
Value investing is a way of investing in company stocks that are considered either undervalued or out
of favor by the market. In other word, a value investment is one where the intrinsic value of the stock
is not accurately reflected in the current market valuation. The underlying reason of too much
decreasing in the stock price is that the company may be losing market shares or even in trouble due to
market s panic attributed to negative rumors as well as having management problems. Since the
market price has dramatically descended, the book to market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result, he will increase his retention rate, retain revenue, and also provide an opportunity for new
investors to invest in the trendy growth stock fund. In addition, if GMO invest in growth stocks, it will
increase the diversification of the overall portfolios; which is that when value stocks are doing well, it
will help offset the growth stocks that are performing poorly and vice versa. Most importantly, GMO
must provide adequate knowledge of growth stocks investing to its clients before allowing them to
invest in them. This will prevent future problems, such as clients complaining about major losses if
growth stock crashes one day.
4. Why wouldn t GMO include Cisco Systems, an otherwise excellent company, in its portfolio at this
time? Why is it willing to consider CVS or R.R Donnelley? What are the long term expected returns
for those stocks? Support your answers by examining P/E ratios, price earnings growth (PEG), and
other metrics that may be relevant to the decision.
According to the calculations below in Table 1, we analyze each company with the Book Market

Capitalism In Pop Art

ART HIST
11/7/2017
POP ART: Promoting Capitalism Through its Social Movement Viewpoint
Pop Art is portrayed by procedures and topics drawn from mainstream mass culture like comic books,
promotions, and ordinary social articles. This movement is broadly deciphered as a response to the
thoughts of unique expressionism. Pop Art proposed to utilize pictures of prominent rather than elitist
culture in workmanship, accentuating the commonplace components of any given culture, as a rule
using incongruity. This paper analyzes the socially and stylishly subversive character of the
development that changed American art and culture in the 1960s. Giving a generally contextualized
perusing of American pop craftsmanship, this paper finds the development inside the bigger system
more of the social rather than political changes of that decade. What was truly in question, this paper
contends that pop art seeks to instil with good intention that through such social movement elevates
the bleak reality of capitalism.
Pop art is a craftsmanship development that rose in the 1950s and prospered in the 1960s, taking
motivation from sources in prominent and business culture, for example, publicizing, Hollywood
motion pictures and popular music ( Pop Art Around the World ).
It started as a rebel against the overwhelming ways to deal with craftsmanship and culture and
conventional perspectives on what art could (and should) be. Drawing on well known symbolism and

Different Types Of Assessments Educators
There are many different types of assessments educators will use to assess their students. The two
main assessments this paper will be discussing are formative and summative. Formative assessments
are complete as students are learning, while summative assessment are completed at the end of
learning (exam). The formative assessment specifically concentrates on observing the students
progress and response during instruction (Black, et al., 2003). This assessment allows the students to
receive instant feedback during their learning development. The summative assessment focusses on
confirming what the students have learned at the conclusion of a lesson or at the end of the term
(Wiggins, 1998). This assessment assists in the decision of what instructional and learning goals were
met. Alternative assessments need to be completed, due to not all students are capable of showing
what they comprehend on all assessments. Some students are too young to even take a summative
assessment.
Formative/Summative Assessments Mrs. Muscato uses the Brigance assessment. This assessment used
specifically with children from birth to the first grade and required by her school district. Early
childhood students assessments need to be simplified due to their age. When the class is working at
the calendar the educator can ask questions about the day, date, or pattern. The educator needs to
remember to give feedback immediately. A summative assessment in this age group includes space to

Bound Feet and Western Dress -Chang Yu-I s Struggle with...
Chang Yu i s Struggle With Identity Are you are confused as to where you are going in life? Do you
sometimes feel like you just do not know who you are, or who you want to be? Do not worry, this is
not uncommon. In fact, according to psychoanalyst Erik Erickson (1902 1994), most young people
ages fifteen to twenty years of age feel the same way. Erickson, a psychoanalytic theorist, took the
human life cycle and categorized it into eight stages. One such stage would be identity versus role
confusion. During this stage, adolescents begin to truly form who they are in life. They form their
present off of the good and bad experiences of their past. Erickson believes that the stages in the life
cycle apply to nearly everyone. It does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally her sibling Second Brother went to their mother and told her to stop. Her mother did not want
to hurt Yu i, but felt that if Yu i did not have beautiful bound feet, she would not find a suitable
husband. Only when Second Brother promised to take care of Yu i should she need to be taken care of
did their mother relent. Though her mother relented, many people, especially the elders, thought that
bound feet were still necessary to find a good husband. Although Yu i was happy with her bound feet,
many others had mixed feelings about them. This added to the difficulty of finding herself as Yu i
grew up and tried to become her own person. Another change was the education of women. The
education of women in China was viewed as unimportant. A woman s job was to serve her husband,
and she did not need to know the Confucian classics to do that. Growing up,Yu i had a desire to learn,
although she did not know where she got it from. Of the four girls in the family, I was the one who
cared the most about education, even from the very beginning. (Chang, 56). Though she was the only
girl in her family who desired to learn, many other women of her generation also were starting to
become educated. This was another change for China, and another sign showing how important the
Western world was becoming. Although Yu i could not say for certain where her love of education
came from, she did believe that it had something to do with how much she respected her Second and

Warriors Don t Cry Essay
In her memoir Warriors Don t Cry, Melba Pattillo Beals describes her experiences as she became one
of the first nine black students educated in an integrated white school. She and her friends, who
became known as the Little Rock Nine , elicited both support and criticism from their family
members, friends, community members, military troops, in addition to the President of the United
States. Melba s experiences, while heartbreaking and sobering, highlight the strength to overcome that
individuals can have over a system intent on keeping them down. Throughout her experience, Melba s
views and attitudes changed quite a bit. When she first volunteered to be one of the first black students
who would attend Central High School in Little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the year, Melba developed a warrior mentality in order to make it through each day. She
became so fixated on surviving that she focused on little else during the school day. She also took the
advice of her Grandma India and smiled in the face of her attackers. She applied the phrase kill them
with kindness , which confused many of her attackers, which seemed to temporarily lessen the
severity and frequency of their attacks. After her year as a Central High student was over and she was
able to reflect upon her experiences, Melba came to the conclusion that the adults that watched the
white children torment and abuse she and her friends were simply afraid. They were afraid of change.
They were afraid that the social structure that placed them above blacks was going to crumble, leaving
them at the mercy of people who they ve kept down for so long. Most of all, Melba learned they were
afraid that once blacks started going to the same school as their children, they may begin to date,
marry and make families with their children. The two individuals who did the most to help Melba
survive while she was inside Central High School were Danny and Link. Danny served as Melba s
personal bodyguard for the initial months that integration was implemented in Little Rock. Danny was
a very important figure in Melba s school life because he represented safety and protection. Although
his motives were not altruistic because he was simply a soldier

How Energy Plays A Vital Role As A Catalyst For Economic...
Introduction Energy plays a vital role as a catalyst for economic growth and high standard of living. It
is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to industry,
commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for approximately 1.5 billion
people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy s importance in promoting
economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry through policies that support
research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver subsidies to producers and or
consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global subsidies to fossil fuel producers
were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010)
estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003,
$519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009. Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy
affordable to consumers, and encourage development of new supply sources. Policies involving
subsidies often have intended goals to address market failures or respond to social and distributional
objectives. According to Komives et al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be
critical for ensuring access to modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby
enhancing societal welfare. Although these support programs are used to improve the standard of
living for various

  • 2. Similarities Between The Scarlet Ibis And Simon Birch The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch taught many lessons within their stories, Al Franken, a writer once said, Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it s a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from. Despite the fact that both The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch are parallel they share many distinctions. The disparity between these two individual stories is setting, characters, and lessons. In both The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch, both boys push their limits to the point of death; these two characters have strong will power. Certainty about the specific investments in trust The money placed in an investment trust is used to capitalize a fixed portfolio. Unlike mutual funds or hedge funds, for some investors, this is a key advantage because they are given the ability to always know what they own. Disadvantages: 1. Opportunity cost This means that by putting money in unit trust, you lost the opportunity to use it elsewhere. Of course there is no guarantee that putting the money elsewhere will yield better returns. In the same way, putting money in unit trust prevents you from investing it elsewhere, such as, directly in the stock market. 2. Fees and charges The services provided by the unit trust fund managers are not free. There are fees and charges payable by the unit holders to the unit trust schemes. • 4. Piano Lesson Symbolism Essay August Wilson s use of symbolism is an important and effective method of storytelling in The Piano Lesson. Symbolism is a technique used by writers to associate one object or idea with another. This technique is essential in The Piano Lesson due to the small scale, rural environment in which the story is told. Important thoughts and ideas that Wilson is trying to portray about African American society could never be expressed without symbolism, due to this small setting. There are many examples of symbolism in The Piano Lesson, but one can get a good idea of the importance of this technique by exploring some of the more prevalent ones. The most recognizable symbol throughout the story is the piano that the family owns. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She looked just like that. Doaker states that Boy Charles say it was the story of our whole family and as long as Sutter had it . . . he had us (45) Under normal circumstances, a piano would not be something valuable enough to risk your life in order to steal. However, it is clear that Boy Charles viewed it as an important family heirloom, a symbol of their family history. By stealing the piano, he hopes to end the control that Sutter has over them. We see in the story that the ghost of Sutter is still haunting the family, through the piano. At the same time the piano is a symbol of family history, it is also a link to the slavery that the family had to endure. It is only through playing the piano, not through some christian exorcism, nor by physically fighting Sutter that they are able to drive off the ghost of Sutter. Boy Willie says Hey Berniece if you and Maretha don t keep playing on that piano ain t no telling me and Sutter both liable to be back. The reasons why Oprah Winfrey is on top of Forbes list of most influential American celebrities are primarily her high profile and the many mentions in the press and social networks. Lewis Levin, the first known leader of the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without question, which would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know Nothing spread their message of fear, through the spreading of rumors and lies about Irish workers, as noted by Bruce Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and the origins of the know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving drunkards, poor material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists added, aggravated the problem by promoting ignorance and low superstition and offering comforting, exculpatory rituals (notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that the common man would share their view of the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have brought into the country. First of all, standard language can be seen as the official and the most prestigious style because of its elitist and literate vocabulary, grammatical and full sentences based on recognized rules, and clean orthography. Standard English is suitable for use in every type of written or spoken situation because it addresses a hypothetical general audience. It may actually depend on which perspective you take on it. As stated by Hira and Hira (2005), outsourcing in the services sector is a major shift in how the economy operates and will have serious impacts, both positive and negative, on the trajectory of economic growth, distribution of income and the workforce. Furthermore, the U.S. economy may also benefit if companies reinvest the extra profits gained from outsourcing for expansion in the U.S. This creates more jobs at home, but again, this is a long term effect of outsourcing and depends on how successful that business is overseas. Exporting presents many advantages including reduced dependency on home market sales and greater control over research, design and production decisions. Conversely, many exported goods are subject to tariff or nontariff barriers and transportation costs that may substantially increase the final cost to consumers (Williams, 2009.) Some companies stand to benefit from exporting. Large U.S. based organizations are strongly in favor of their companies free ability to export U.S. jobs and have no interest in taking responsibility for the consequences to their employees. Basically, this means that the CEOs, executives and shareholders support offshore outsourcing because they stand to gain from rising profits and stock prices while employees here at home are losing their jobs to free trade and offshoring. • 16. The Red Horses By Franz Marc Essay The German artist Franz Marc painted the painting The Red Horses. He was born on February 8, 1880. Most of Franz Marc s influence came from his father who was a landscape artist. As a result of this, his earliest works were painted in the naturalistic academic style. When Marc met Wassily Kandinsky in 1910, he joined an expressionist group. Most of the colors that Franz used in his paintings had a meaning to him or to the painting. The different aspects and the thought that Marc put into his paintings really made them come together and become what they are now. Marc and Kandinsky soon formed their own group, called Der Blaue Reiter. Their philosophy in painting paintings derived from nature was that the painting itself should reflect the spiritual essence of the object or animal as opposed to the physical embodiment. By this time in his artistic career, Franz Marc had developed an idea of symbolism for the colors used in his paintings. This was largely influenced by his friendship with Kandinsky. The colors used in The Red Horses were largely naturalistic colors; there are no neon or unnatural colors. The beginning of the 20th century in Germany was where expressionism originated. This movement had a large impact on Marc s paintings as most of his works were of the expressionist movement. His paintings were not focused on the physical details of the painting, but on the mood and ideas that he was trying to relate to the viewer. Franz Marc created several paintings in the year of 1911, and a vast majority of them were related to expressionism. Marc liked nature and seemingly normal actions that animals were doing. Both parties clung to myths that African Americans had been irresponsible with the freedoms provided to them by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Amendments to the Constitutional. This will impact Leon greatly as increasing the number of chain restaurants will be costly at first but then will provide further income which will boost their economic growth. After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a substantial amount. With these ideas in mind, society has come to denounce egocentrism and to view those who are prone to it as undesirable and incapable of success. Egocentrism is defined in the Oxford dictionary as Thinking only of oneself, without regard for the feelings or desires of others. In the eyes of most, to think only of oneself is to be parasitic to all others. To lack empathy is to be inherently indifferent which precedes unsuccessfulness. Why is it then that there are so many stories of cruel billionaire businessman mistreating their employees and loved ones? How can people that disregard the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in my experience, for an egomaniac money, sex, and other transient pleasures are just as good as long term relationships. Love and happiness are chemical cocktails. These chemicals present themselves just as readily in fleeting relationships; commitment is unnecessary to their appearance. More than that, a self centered person, barring any mental illness, can choose whether they behave egocentrically or benevolently in their relationships depending on what they find advantageous. But, the instability of relationships among the egocentric can also be harmful to their empathetic friends and romantic partners. This case is a bit more tricky, it can be somewhat difficult to just choose to hate someone even if exposure to them is harmful. Is it really fair to let egotism go unchecked if it destabilizes relationships and causes emotionally harmed to the less naturally egotistical? Truthfully, one must manage their own relationships. If one experiences emotional distress due to someone else s self obsession it is his own fault for becoming involved with an egomaniac. Egocentrism is inherently harmful to interpersonal relationships, but that is the problem of the egomaniac and nobody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our first instinct when change is near to intertwining with our lives is to run away from the monster that might turn our lives around in seconds. Nevertheless, Edward Bloor tackles this belief in his novel Tangerine with his own unique perspective, that change could result to a new start or adventure if we are willing to accept it into our lives. The novel Tangerine follows the perspective of Paul Fisher:an aspiring soccer star, the supposedly imperfect younger brother of golden boy Erik Fisher, and legally blind. Paul went through the the same process as the bud to form the Golden Dawn tree. Paul was first placed in this new town he wasn t familiar with, but eventually he settled in as one of the town s inhabitants. Also, Paul learned the truth in Tangerine, so he sealed his old past away, where he was fearful and clueless, and he blossomed into someone completely different. The second quote was when Paul confronted the young boy after the boy tried to warn him about the rumored gator lurking in the pond. Paul was angry and let his emotions loose;when the boy told Paul that his parents would never tell him stories to make him scared. Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences. Halifax: Mar 2005. Vol. 22, Iss. 1; pg. 3, 18 pgs Abstract This paper examines the stock and accounting performance of three major airlines in the United States in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. September 11 (9/11) resulted in dramatic changes in the airline industry and had significant implications for the economic gains and future prospects of most airlines. Our study focuses on the stock market s perception of the viability of low cost versus full service business models in the aftermath of 9/11. We choose Southwest Airlines as a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawton (2003) advances the argument that low cost carriers (LCCs) were in a position to go on the offensive and aggressively exploit the changed industry climate after 9/11 by renegotiating labour contracts, by negotiating lower prices for new airplanes in what had suddenly become a buyer s market for new aircraft, and by pursuing aggressive pricing strategies to increase their market share relative to legacy carriers. Legacy carriers, being exposed to a significantly higher overhead burden, were forced into defensive strategies that provided them with little operational flexibility. These developments are difficult to observe in the airlines accounting figures in the short term, but if they are perceived to change a firm s future cash flows they should be reflected in the market s valuation of the firm s stock. When investigating the impact that the events of 9/11 had on each airline s risk, we consider both the systematic and unsystematic volatility of the stocks returns. This allows us to differentiate between risk factors that affected the market as a whole and risk factors that affected the firms specifically. Although we employ only a small sample, our results are highly consistent.2 We observe that Southwest performed significantly better after 9/11 than its mainstream competitors ... Some of us believe that we are the masters of our fate, our soul while others believe our destiny is predetermined and that we are bound to a certain set goal in life. The concepts of determinism, compatibilism and libertarianism try to help aid in that discussion and help enlighten us on what we believe is the correct ideology. Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold were two young men who had privileged families and attended the best schools. However they murdered a fourteen year old boy to experience the thrill of killing someone. The public wanted the death penalty to be handed down but attorney Clarence Darrow fought and won a life imprisonment verdict (Chaffee 177).The attorney employed a hard determinist argument to show the judge that his clients were victims of circumstance and they were beyond their own control. He even says in the trial that nature is strong and she is pitiless. She works in her own mysterious way, and we are her victims (Chaffee 177). His argument obviously worked as the two young men were not sentenced to death. This one case in my opinion shows how determinism does not make sense to me. I absolutely believe that the environment and the way were brought up has an effect on how we act on the decisions we make. But at the end of the day I also believe that we should be fully help responsible for the actions that we make. These two young men in my opinion should have been punished to the full degree. Nuclear fusion is the process in which two nuclei fuse together to form a larger nuclei. Nuclear reactors can become unstable creating an uncontrollable nuclear reaction. The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which then turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods. The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma radiation given off. Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20 million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity. Pop Art proposed to utilize pictures of prominent rather than elitist culture in workmanship, accentuating the commonplace components of any given culture, as a rule using incongruity. • 45. Different Types Of Assessments Educators There are many different types of assessments educators will use to assess their students. The two main assessments this paper will be discussing are formative and summative. Formative assessments are complete as students are learning, while summative assessment are completed at the end of learning (exam). The formative assessment specifically concentrates on observing the students progress and response during instruction (Black, et al., 2003). This assessment allows the students to receive instant feedback during their learning development. The summative assessment focusses on confirming what the students have learned at the conclusion of a lesson or at the end of the term (Wiggins, 1998). This assessment assists in the decision of what instructional and learning goals were met. Alternative assessments need to be completed, due to not all students are capable of showing what they comprehend on all assessments. Some students are too young to even take a summative assessment. Formative/Summative Assessments Mrs. Muscato uses the Brigance assessment. This assessment used specifically with children from birth to the first grade and required by her school district. Erickson, a psychoanalytic theorist, took the human life cycle and categorized it into eight stages. One such stage would be identity versus role confusion. • 48. How Energy Plays A Vital Role As A Catalyst For Economic... Introduction Energy plays a vital role as a catalyst for economic growth and high standard of living. It is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to industry, commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy s importance in promoting economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry through policies that support research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver subsidies to producers and or consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global subsidies to fossil fuel producers were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010) estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003, $519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009. Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy affordable to consumers, and encourage development of new supply sources. Policies involving subsidies often have intended goals to address market failures or respond to social and distributional objectives. According to Komives et al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be critical for ensuring access to modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby enhancing societal welfare.
