Chakravarthy Janga has been an employee of Smartbridge since inception in 2003 and currently
manages the JDE technical team in the Enterprise Systems practice. During his tenure,
Chakravarthy provided consulting services for architecture and implementation of numerous JD
Edwards implementations, upgrades, customizations, and interfaces for customers in Food and
Beverage, Distribution, Oil & Gas and Government.

■ Customizations to ESS applications.
▪ Select Employees for Self-service (P5508ESS)
▪ The ESS Life Events use the AB# in the user profile to perform the Life Event
steps
▪ Life event entry can only be performed by the employee for their records.
▪ Customization done to enable HR staff to select an employee and perform
ESS using the Life Events
 Enrollment Event Code comes from PO, else hard coded to NHR (New
Hire)
 Enrollment Event Type is based on Enrollment Event Code. Set based on
SPHD in UDC 08/BE for EECD. If ‘1’ set it else Set to ‘2’.
 Double click on employee or Row exit ESS Director, goes to P5505410 and
address number of the employee is passed in Form interconnect.

■ Customizations to ESS applications.
▪ Custom Self-service Director (P5505410)
▪ This application is a copy of P05410.
▪ The custom application will work based on the address number passed to
it instead of going by the person running the application.
▪ Customization done
 Added Address number, Display Marital status, Display salary, Display
DOB, Display Where-Next & Enrollment Event Code to the Form Data
Structure
 Set PO Values based on FI Values coming in from earlier application.
 Assigned FI address Number to address Number Variable to be used for
processing the enrollment

■ Batch UBE(s) to load and process benefits info
▪ Enrollment text file with benefits information provided by TPA in csv
format
▪ Staging table (F5708030) in JDE to load file and Maintenance
Application (P5708030)
▪ Batch job (R5708030L) to load the file into Staging table
▪ Batch job (R5708030) to process the data in staging table
▪ Validate Data and report exceptions
▪ End enrollment if required
▪ Write new enrollments to ESS work files
▪ Batch jobs to process ESS work files into live tables

▪ Batch job (R5708030L) to load the file into Staging table

▪ Maintenance Application (P5708030) to correct any data if
required or enquiry on error records

▪ Process all records from F5708030 and update the EDSP after
processing
▪ Process employee and their dependents as following
▪ Validate if the employee is still active and only process if active
▪ For dependent, use the AN8 passed in or creates a new AN8 for
new dependents.
▪ Create records in the ESS work files for employee & dependents /
Beneficiaries
▪ Derive a ESIGN and use the same for the whole batch of records

Automate benefits enrollment leveraging ESS work files ■ Customizations to ESS applications. ▪ Select Employees for Self-service (P5508ESS) ▪ The ESS Life Events use the AB# in the user profile to perform the Life Event steps ▪ Life event entry can only be performed by the employee for their records. ▪ Customization done to enable HR staff to select an employee and perform ESS using the Life Events  Enrollment Event Code comes from PO, else hard coded to NHR (New Hire)  Enrollment Event Type is based on Enrollment Event Code. Set based on SPHD in UDC 08/BE for EECD. If ‘1’ set it else Set to ‘2’.  Double click on employee or Row exit ESS Director, goes to P5505410 and address number of the employee is passed in Form interconnect. 6 Design

Automate benefits enrollment leveraging ESS work files ■ Customizations to ESS applications. ▪ Custom Self-service Director (P5505410) ▪ This application is a copy of P05410. ▪ The custom application will work based on the address number passed to it instead of going by the person running the application. ▪ Customization done  Added Address number, Display Marital status, Display salary, Display DOB, Display Where-Next & Enrollment Event Code to the Form Data Structure  Set PO Values based on FI Values coming in from earlier application.  Assigned FI address Number to address Number Variable to be used for processing the enrollment 7 Design

Automate benefits enrollment leveraging ESS work files ■ Batch UBE(s) to load and process benefits info ▪ Enrollment text file with benefits information provided by TPA in csv format ▪ Staging table (F5708030) in JDE to load file and Maintenance Application (P5708030) ▪ Batch job (R5708030L) to load the file into Staging table ▪ Batch job (R5708030) to process the data in staging table ▪ Validate Data and report exceptions ▪ End enrollment if required ▪ Write new enrollments to ESS work files ▪ Batch jobs to process ESS work files into live tables 8 Design

Automate benefits enrollment leveraging ESS work files ■ Validate Source Data and Load into ESS work files (R5708030) ▪ Process all records from F5708030 and update the EDSP after processing ▪ Process employee and their dependents as following ▪ Validate if the employee is still active and only process if active ▪ For dependent, use the AN8 passed in or creates a new AN8 for new dependents. ▪ Create records in the ESS work files for employee & dependents / Beneficiaries ▪ Derive a ESIGN and use the same for the whole batch of records 11 Design

Automate benefits enrollment leveraging ESS work files ■ Processing Benefits changes using ESS work files ▪ Ending the enrollment was not working as expected ▪ Worked with Oracle but could not resolve the issue ▪ Added code to UBE to end the enrollment and process new enrollments through ESS ■ Bad dates from TPA ▪ Validation caught most of the issues ▪ Bad start and end dates 15 Challenges
