Death toll from earthquakes: 700 000 over 10 years   Shock robs victims of  precious seconds between  1st and 2nd-3rd waves,   which could save their lives victims are warned via smartphones so action can be taken as the 1st wave hits geolocalisedinformation is dispatched by users, helping rescue efforts in the aftermath. . + future added performances enabled by Galileo’s SAR services.
How it works….  When the shaking stops:  Instantaneous and reliable communication via twitter, smartphones leaving network free Devices are equipped with stress beacons so victims can inform on their state.   As support for crisis management: Smartphones serve as captors in situ, A spontaneous (and ephemeral) network is created with civilians relaying information. At the time of the earthquake: A device accelerator identifies  the 1st waves (Pwaves) 	Alert1 sent to smartphones Data is collected and sent to the cloud; Patterns analyzed  Alert2 sent back to devices to confirm Possible damage scenarios mapped out, thanks to Accelerometric Data Mapping Enables redundancy warnings  (which is not the case with current US and Japanese solutions)
An easy to implement, highly efficient life saving solution Surfing on rising number of smartphone users Targeting a wide range of actors: Institutions, sponsors or patrons wishing to equip NGO staff, residents of deprived areas, etc.  Corporations or organizations for their expatriates in high risk areas.  Telecom operators adding it to their offer for residents of earthquake-prone areas or travellers  Study & research organisms who wish to collect data  And individuals who live in a seismic area or are traveling to one. A complement to government  and institutional actions, since it can be implemented with causing interference A collaborative tool that can facilitate cooperation and coordination with different communities and crisis teams.  Potentially millions of users worldwide Today, 400 million people are living in the largest cities, many of which are in major earthquake areas. A growing figure: In 2050, 70% of the population will be urban! Project has been labelled living lab within ENoLL in April 2011
Prototype ready! Launching  project mode Routing server and cloud is a key focus at this stage, with teams working on that as we speak.  Feasibility phase should take 2 to 6 months  Afterwards, expected  Time to Market  is less than  6 months. Towards the future:  Expanding to other emergency areas Earthquake disasters present the maximum complexity… The next step will be to adapt the solution to disasters such as floods, hurricane etc.  The goal today is to carry out in situ testing by furnishing equipped mobiles to rescue teams  (SAR Search&Rescue),  MSF (Médecins sans Frontières) ,  Red Cross, UN...).
