Development of a software tool to automatically produce INSPIRE-compliant data
1. Development of a software tool to automatically
produce INSPIRE-compliant data
Building on the
smeSpire Project
INSPIRE Conference , Florence, June 24th, 2013
2. Collaboration under SMESPIRE
• Three Cypriot Firms/Partners
– T. C. Geomatic Ltd., owner of the advanced
analytical digital mapping database
GeomaticMaps™
– Epsilon Consulting Ltd., a leader in geo-based
consulting services linked to the implementation
of engineering and public-policy research
– EXA HPC Ltd., a high performance computing
software consulting and development pioneer
3. Project Objective
Development of software tool to automatically
produce INSPIRE-compliant data
Software will transform the data, check for missing data
or errors, and alert the users.
Initially, the software will be used to process
administrative area dataset based on INSPIRE Data
Specifications on Geographical Names – Guidelines v.
3.0.1., and then its capabilities will be expanded in the
future.
–Input: ESRI Shapefiles from ArcGIS or other GIS software
–Output: INSPIRE-compliant GML file
4. Motivation
• Reduce the time required to produce INSPIRE-
compliant data
– Crucial for SMEs who might lack the manpower,
time, skills or other resources
• Improve the reliability of the data by providing
a standardized tool
• Learning experience to guide future software
development, and the involvement of other
SMEs
5. Exploitation
• Data produced will be available for use by other
software that are also INSPIRE-compliant.
• The software developed will be made available to
other interested SMEs for a nominal fee to cover
development costs required to modify the
software to suit their needs.
• The three Cypriot partners will also provide
consulting and guidance to other SMEs based on
their experience.
