Open with a small joke about engineering.Conduct a small questionnaire. 1.Ask the audience about their favorite subject. Why is it their favorite.2.Show them the pyramid of learning. The three levels. Remembering. Understanding. Applying. Stress the importance to reach the “Applying” level3.Few notes on our education system. Why we start remembering and not applying them. ( Theory & Lab sessions will not in the curriculum for the same sem )4.Stress the importance of having a thorough knowledge of core subjects. These are your survival skills in the industry.
Stress on the key word “design or develop”As defined by The American Engineers' Council for Professional Development An engineer should contribute to the society
A small illustration about why don’t forget the concepts we studied in basic math.“You will remember only if you apply and You will forget if you only remember”A technically strong employee is always valued in the industryRather than remembering : (a + b ) 2 = a2 + 2ab + b2Its better to understand it like : (a + b) (a + b) = a * a + a * b + a * b + b * b
Scientists invent new concepts. Engineers develop these concepts in to products
You will learn lot of options for every command, but you will not be able to remember Eg : You will learn options for “ls” , “grep” ,”awk” List of all the files (including hidden files and only files) in “/tmp” which was modified on date 25th Aug 2011 between 10 AM to 12 PM , except by root user .

These problems are most of the time related to real time application of the subject.A small note on VTU regarding VTU text books.Give 2 to 3 examples of the link between the subjects. 1. Transistor 2. signals and systems 3. networks.Stress the use of internet. NPTEL lecture videos and MIT lectures in youtube.Appear for GATE just to test your technical skill level.Usinggoogle.
Percentage is not directly proportional knowledge. It will make you eligible for the interview and not for the jobTake the same example of linking the subjects and stress on the missing linksImportance of mathematics. The xerox shop jokeNot concentrating on academics after campus selection
