5. The positive view of childhood March in progress Over the past few centuries, the position of children has improved Today children are more valued, better cared for, protected etc The family and society have become more child centred!!

6. But could childhood be disappearing?

7. POSTMAN argues that childhood is disappearing……. The growth of television means that there are no more secrets from children. Television gives them unlimited access to the adult world. They are exposed to the ‘real world’ of sex, disaster, death, suffering. ‘Social blurring’- little distinction between adults and children. Children's games disappearing, they speak, dress and act more like adults.
