1. How to Use Freegate to Access Blocked Sites: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
Freegate is a free proxy tool that allows users to view blocked content on the Internet.
While extensively used by Chinese nationals, the software is also available to netizens
elsewhere. Freegate comes from the house of US-based Dynamic Internet Technology
(DIT) which has been a key player in developing internet technologies over the last
decade.
Freegate – Stand-out Features
Perhaps the best reason to recommend Freegate is its portability. You don’t have to install
any software to make use of Freegate’s proxy capabilities. With Freegate, you are only a
double-click away from breaking the shackles of censorship and accessing any website
you want.
Freegate takes only a couple of seconds to connect to servers. Unlike other proxy tools
available, Freegate is impressive in connectivity and speed. Besides, you can use Freegate’s
various settings to ensure complete anonymity on the Web.

2. Step 3: Double-click on the Freegate file that you just downloaded. This should open the
user interface for you. Freegate also tries to connect to a proxy server. Once the
connection is established, Internet Explorer launches and the DynaWeb page is displayed.
Step 4: You can configure Freegate using the‘Settings’tab on the user interface.
Use the following points to set up Freegate as a proxy server:
1. Click‘Settings’tab
2. Click‘More Settings’button to open a window by that name.
3. Click on the checkbox ‘Run Freegate as server (listens 0.0.0.0)’. A window should pop
up, asking you to set your user id and password. Set up your details and remember
them carefully.
Close Freegate and restart it. Freegate is now set up as a proxy server and ready to handle
online requests. If your computer or laptop works behind a routing system, then the router
too needs to be configured so as to forward proxy requests to the Freegate proxy server.
This is how you can configure the router:
1. You need to find out the IP address of your system. Do this by clicking ‘Start’ icon at the
left-hand corner of the screen, then typing ‘cmd’, and pressing ‘Enter’. A DOS window
opens. Type‘ipconfig’at the DOS prompt, and again press‘Enter’. You will have information
displayed on the screen for IP address and Default Gateway. The IP address is nothing but
your LAN IP address, and Default Gateway is the router’s IP address.
2. Use the router’s IP address as URL on IE to open the main page for your router. Now,
login to the router to set up port forwarding.
Setting up Port Forwarding:
1. The router page should have a link, among others, named ‘Port Forwarding’. Open this
link. Locate your computer or laptop using your device’s IP address.
2. Select‘Custom Port’. Go with‘TCP’for the proxy application here.
3. Enter the Port Number to be 8580. Click ‘Apply’. This sets your router up for forwarding
requests to your Freegate proxy server.
How to set up a web browser for optimal Freegate performance:
1. Click the‘Settings’tab in Freegate.
2. ‘Tools’ becomes available as one of the menu options. Select ‘Internet Options’ in
‘Tools’.

information, browse the Web without any restrictions.
Step 5: To further enhance your anonymity, you should take care to delete your web
browsing history after completing each session.
Step 6: Click on the ‘Exit’ button or the ‘X’ at the top-right to end your session. You will be
prompted if you want to close all IE browsers.
