The Professional Responsibility and Growth Page
Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession, Standard 7: Professional Responsibilityand Growth Teachers assume responsibility for professional growth, performance and involvement as an individual and as a member of a learning community.
Standard 7: Element 7.1 Teachers understand, uphold and follow professional ethics, policies and legal codes of professional conduct. What does that look like?
Standard 7: Element 7.1Proficient Level Teachers meet their eithical and professional responsibilities with integrity, honesty, fairness and dignity. Teachers separate their personal beliefs from their professional interactions with students and families.
Standard 7: Element 7.1Proficient Level Teachers understand and follow district policies and state and federal regulations.
Standard 7: Element 7.1Accomplished Level Teachers help their colleagues access and interpret laws and policies and understand their implications in the classroom.
Standard 7: Element 7.1Distinguished Level Teachers help shape policy at the local or state level.
Standard 7: Element 7.2 Teachers take responsibility for engaging in continuous, purposeful professional development. What does that look like?
Standard 7: Element 7.2Proficient Level Teachers participate in relevant professional development activities and incorporate what they learn into their instruction. Teachers know and use Ohio Standards for Professional Development.
Standard 7: Element 7.2Proficient Level Teachers work collaboratively to determine and design appropriate professional development opportunities for themselves.
Standard 7: Element 7.2Accomplished Level Teachers use professional literature, professional dialogue, collaboration with colleagues and other resources to support their development as teachers and leaders.
Standard 7: Element 7.2Accomplished Level Teachers analyze their content knowledge and instructional strengths and weaknesses and present and implement targeted ideas for professional growth.
Standard 7: Element 7.2Distinguished Level Teachers create and deliver professional development opportunities for others. Teachers pursue advanced degrees and/or National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification.
Standard 7: Element 7.3 Teachers are agents of change who seek opportunities to positively impact teaching quality, school improvements and student achievement. What does that look like?
Standard 7: Element 7.3Proficient Level Teachers participate in team or departmental decision making.
Standard 7: Element 7.3Accomplished Level Teachers are actively involved in professional and community organizations that advance teaching and learning.
Standard 7: Element 7.3Distinguished Level Teachers take leadership roles in department, school, district, state and professional organizations’ decision-making activities, such as curriculum development, staff development or policy design.
Standard 7: Element 7.3Distinguished Level Teachers facilitate the development of efficacy—the belief that teachers can impact the achievement of all students—among other teachers in their school and district.

Consider the Following:(use never, rarely, sometimes,  frequently or always) I understand, uphold and follow professional ethics, policies and legal codes of professional conduct. I take responsibility for engaging in continuous, purposeful professional development.
(use never, rarely, sometimes,  frequently or always) I seek opportunities to impact the quality of my teaching, make school improvements and increase student achievement.
Possible Artifacts for the Professional Portfolio: Professional memberships and how they influence your teaching Journal articles, webinars, in-service meetings, conferences attended/reviewed with an action plan of how it influenced you professionally.

Standard 7: Professional Responsibility and Growth

  • 2. Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession, Standard 7: Professional Responsibilityand Growth Teachers assume responsibility for professional growth, performance and involvement as an individual and as a member of a learning community.
  • 3. Standard 7: Element 7.1 Teachers understand, uphold and follow professional ethics, policies and legal codes of professional conduct. What does that look like?
  • 4. Standard 7: Element 7.1Proficient Level Teachers meet their eithical and professional responsibilities with integrity, honesty, fairness and dignity. Teachers separate their personal beliefs from their professional interactions with students and families.
  • 5. Standard 7: Element 7.1Proficient Level Teachers understand and follow district policies and state and federal regulations.
  • 6. Standard 7: Element 7.1Accomplished Level Teachers help their colleagues access and interpret laws and policies and understand their implications in the classroom.
  • 7. Standard 7: Element 7.1Distinguished Level Teachers help shape policy at the local or state level.
  • 8. Standard 7: Element 7.2 Teachers take responsibility for engaging in continuous, purposeful professional development. What does that look like?
  • 9. Standard 7: Element 7.2Proficient Level Teachers participate in relevant professional development activities and incorporate what they learn into their instruction. Teachers know and use Ohio Standards for Professional Development.
  • 10. Standard 7: Element 7.2Proficient Level Teachers work collaboratively to determine and design appropriate professional development opportunities for themselves.
  • 11. Standard 7: Element 7.2Accomplished Level Teachers use professional literature, professional dialogue, collaboration with colleagues and other resources to support their development as teachers and leaders.
  • 12. Standard 7: Element 7.2Accomplished Level Teachers analyze their content knowledge and instructional strengths and weaknesses and present and implement targeted ideas for professional growth.
  • 13. Standard 7: Element 7.2Distinguished Level Teachers create and deliver professional development opportunities for others. Teachers pursue advanced degrees and/or National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification.
  • 14. Standard 7: Element 7.3 Teachers are agents of change who seek opportunities to positively impact teaching quality, school improvements and student achievement. What does that look like?
  • 15. Standard 7: Element 7.3Proficient Level Teachers participate in team or departmental decision making.
  • 16. Standard 7: Element 7.3Accomplished Level Teachers are actively involved in professional and community organizations that advance teaching and learning.
  • 17. Standard 7: Element 7.3Distinguished Level Teachers take leadership roles in department, school, district, state and professional organizations’ decision-making activities, such as curriculum development, staff development or policy design.
  • 18. Standard 7: Element 7.3Distinguished Level Teachers facilitate the development of efficacy—the belief that teachers can impact the achievement of all students—among other teachers in their school and district.

  • 20. Consider the Following:(use never, rarely, sometimes, frequently or always) I understand, uphold and follow professional ethics, policies and legal codes of professional conduct. I take responsibility for engaging in continuous, purposeful professional development.

  • 22. Possible Artifacts for the Professional Portfolio: Professional memberships and how they influence your teaching Journal articles, webinars, in-service meetings, conferences attended/reviewed with an action plan of how it influenced you professionally.
