2. Genre
The type of magazine I have chosen to base my magazine on is indie, as I thought that this was the simplest and most open
genre to base my pictures on, and I also enjoy this genre! I shall be inputting a lot of images of guitars to represent the
more acoustic songs. I would also like my images to be taken in a more natural setting: in a park, or the woods, throughout
my magazine.
I have decided to choose Tanya Kekic for my model as I feel her fashion sense and her face would fit my magazine and
music genre very well. I have also chose George Williams as his fashion sense abides to my genre, and therefore would
make my magazine flow far more.
On my front cover, I would like to introduce my audience to a different, original cover. I could make this happen by taking
photos of my model in a natural setting. I shall be taking some photos outside the school grounds. Preferably I would like it
to be a sunny day, so the lighting would be bright and enlightening just like my genre. This would give the music more of a
natural feel just how the music is created with just instruments, as it is acoustic.
I would also like my model to be smiling as the genre is fun and relaxed, but not directly in the camera. Most of the photos
of my model I would like to be taken in the motion of an action, so the photos are less posey and natural.
On the contents page, preferably I would like this to take up a double page as then I can use a good, detailed photo
throughout both sides, and then the writing on one side, with my model on the side where there is no writing. This would
make the writing overlap the scenery which makes my contents page look far more busy, and exciting, but not too complex
to divert the audne
3. Audience
My audience would be targeted towards girls as I will be including fashion into my photo-shoot, with pretty backgrounds of
nature. I also feel that my targeted genre is a lot of girl singers which would appeal towards the female audience, increasingly
than males.
I feel that my genre of music is aimed towards the mainstreamers far more than any other type of audience as the music I've
selected is quite popular within the age that I have chosen to aim my magazine towards. Mainstreamers tend to blend in and
fit in with the crowd so I feel this suits my genre.
By aiming my magazine towards the age group of around 16-20 year old females, I would need to include more pretty images,
including good fashion. My model would preferably have to be female, so my target audience could have a role model to look
up to and aspire to be. I would like my font to be delicate and go well alongside my images (so if my image was taken outside
featuring nature, my wont wouldn’t be bold as it wouldn’t suit the scenery well, as it would look harsh).
4. Institution
The magazine institution I will be selecting is Bauer media. I have chosen this as it is quite a popular choice, as
this company has worked with Q, and acoustic magazine, which I aspire my magazine to look like! This is a
popular choice, and this institution has been successful in the past.
5. Representation
I have chosen to use Tanya Kekic as she suits my theme well. Also she sings and owns her own music instruments such as an
ukulele and a guitar, so she wouldn’t look awkward holding the instrument, which would make her feel far more comfortable
in the shoot.
I would like to take some photos of her in the school grounds, using the media recourses and the white backgrounds. The
images where she is outside school grounds I would like to use these on my contents page, a double page spread, with the
actual content written on the let hand side.
I do not want my models clothing to be revealing as this does not represent my genre very well, and my genre would be
misjudged. Researching into different magazines with my genre, the females are usually displayed in a non sexualized
manner.
