NBA/WNBA FIT NBA FIT is the league's comprehensive health and wellness platform promoting healthy, active lifestyles for children and adults. The initiative encourages physical activity and healthy living through products, events and programs for children and families

Values/Focus Main focus is the Fit program where the NBA/WNBA promote healthy living physical activity and healthy eating Uses fitness as a leadership tool which encourages youth to lead by examples By eating well, being active and making good life decisions Teams and players share important fitness and health tips to kids, parents and families It encourages, educate and engages families and children into healthy living Will be informed and engaged in conditioning, general fitness, nutrition and well-being practices

Program Offers Fitness Programs Offers exercises at all levels for kids, adults and families Exercise at different levels beginner, intermediate, and advance for each class Offers basketball workouts for people who have interest in the sport Nutrition Educates on nutrition protein intake, carb intake and fat intake Food choices for school lunches, what should in the kitchen, and holiday meals Nutritional myths (skipping meals is not best way to loose weight) Eating Substantive amounts of protein to get bigger muscle is a Fallacious statement, protein helps repair damaged muscle tissue after training

Program Offers Fitness Tips on Holidays for healthy eating and physical activity; ex: Thanks giving going out and play tag football Christmas Ex: dancing to Christmas music Setting a program of training during the week and offering other alternativespractices ( yoga, biking) Identify certain injuries the difference between sprain or strain and injury prevention Nutrition Brings aware to obesity and how to change eating habits to fight against obesity Brings aware to heart disease and offers food suggestions to increase chance of prevention Offers links to other programs that offer healthy eating( Thehealthyapple.com, mypyramid.gov)
6. Inputs The fit program needs sponsors and supporters (Gatorade, YMCA, Spalding, kids health) for supplies and money NBA players, former players, coaches, officials, trainers and health related experts to guide and become role models for the youth and families. Supplies from sponsor like basketballs, Gatorade, and various other workout equipment Support from NBA Teams to set up fit programs within their community Teaming up with other community programs and various non-profits Volunteers to assist operation Media to get the word out on event dates
7. Process/outputs Volunteers to look after children minimum of 5 but more required if there are more participants Will receive administrative kit that includes promotional posters of program and the date of the event Help from the media to promote event and provide support by gathering all information of event dates, location and what to do to help program for FIT events

Outcomes Children, adults and families get to meet and interact with NBA/WNBA players and Coaches Become physically active and to think with a purpose of being healthy Taught in a didactic way of the importance of getting fit and eating right Have opportunity to participate in challenges set by FIT ( Fit challenge, Dribble, dish and Swish) at all star weekend Get educated on how to deal with injury or prevention of injury while being active They would see results big or small in their health (loosing weight, having a lot more energy)

Community Need Helps youth and families be active and to acquire new knowledge of healthy living Provides ways to maintain healthy living by eating right and doing physical activity Fit program builds new basketball courts for the community so children have a place to play basketball and stay away from the streets Teaches youth fundamental basketball skills teaches them to be leaders, team players, and helps build self confidence Helping children families be active to fight heart disease, obesity, and other diseases Being physically active helps brain be active and help develop Cognitive skills

Link to CT, CR, CA CRITICAL THINKING To set up program by finding location, what NBA/WNBA players are available for time of event, the amount of volunteers require to help assist program, the amount of supplies needed for program Participants willimprove thinkingon safe, active healthy exercises they can do at different levels (beginner, intermediate, and advance) all linked to Critical Thinking CRITICAL ACTION Participants get to be active in challenges and work out with players and coaches Put fundamental techniques of basketball in action Being in shape and being fit will help create healthy life style and a fit mind to help preserve through difficulties Ability to apply healthy foods to everyday meals and holiday meals
11. Interest to funding institution The Thinking foundation will greatly help fund the FIT program along side with the NBA and other partnerships The FIT program is about taking action, the main participants being 14 yrs or younger; the program is used to help kids be physically active and teaching them to be healthy at a young age so they can prevent obesity and fight against heart disease. By being active and taught the fundamentals of basketball the participants will improve their cognitive skills by learning to be active leaders, working with others and gaining self confidence The program reaches out to all levels of schooling from the wealthy to the low income schools to teach healthy living
