Gaia Turmeric Supreme herbal supplements for joint pain
Oct 25
As I inch ever closer to 50 years old, I find myself waking up with fresh little aches and pains every
couple of weeks. For example, earlier this summer, just as my game was rounding into form (maybe
even the same week I shot my personal best round of 76), my left knee stiffened up a bit. Nothing
serious, it seemed, just a general soreness and minor weakness, especially after walking 36 holes
over the weekend.
I am a proponent of stretching and weight training, along with a good diet and the occasional self-
medication with a tasty adult beverage. But I generally don't put much stock into herbal
supplements. If, for example, I want more omega-3 fatty acids, I grill up ruby trout filets and pick
some of the purslane from my yard and sauté it with garlic in olive oil to put on top of the fish. This
tastes a lot better than some fish oil capsules from the drug store (and it goes much better with an
Oregon pinot noir).
So when two bottles of Turmeric Supreme herbal supplements by Gaia Herbs showed up on my
doorsteps, I was skeptical.
One bottle was labeled Turmeric Supreme Joint ($22), and the other Turmeric Supreme Extra
Strength ($32.50). Both of them are billed as beneficial for joint and muscle health. So I figured,
what the hell? - I'll take them for a while and see how my knee (and lower back, for that matter) feel
after a month or so.
Interestingly, my knee and my back have given me relatively little trouble since then. To be honest, I
don't know whether it has anything to do with the capsules, or whether my embarrassingly
inconsistent regiment of stretching and working out--along with the aforementioned dietary habits-
-would have sufficed.
Either way, I am also a firm believer in the placebo effect. It very well could be all in my head. You
know what, though? If taking these capsules once a day makes me think I feel better, well then,
maybe that's worth it.
Perhaps the way you feel, like the way you play golf, is determined mostly between your ears.
