2. In what way dose your media products
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products
For the masthead of my magazine I looked at
the styling of the kerrang masthead, this gives
the impression of being broken. I found a font
that looked to be warn and old, I think that my
masthead conforms with the industry.
One of the main differences between my
magazine and the industry’s in the size of the
masthead, my mast head covers a lot of the
page, I think that this makes it more prominent
and would stand out more on a shelf.
3. Kerrang used buttons on there contents
page that did not follow through on the
rest on the pages, I used this in my
magazine to add numbers to pictures.
I also split the contents page into
different sections under different
headings, this is also commonly used in
music magazines
4. I went ageist the conventions of
magazines and have the text left align
and not justified, this gives the magazine
a scruffy look and fits in with the style of
music.
I made the text box at the bottom of the
page slightly uneven, this was also used
in a kerrang article and this also suits
the style of music.
5. How dose you particular media
product represent social group’s
The colours used are very dark
throughout the maroon colour and the
blue/purple give this a teenage feel, also
these colours are very common on
album covers, for example “conceder
this” by tonight alive uses a similar red
and the black with white text have a
heavy link to the double page spread.
6. The font has a gothic feel to it, punk and
emo music is heavily related to
alternative rock, and gothic text is
stereotypically used in these genres of
music.
7. What kind of institution might
distribute your media product
Bauer Media Group would be a
company that could distribute my
magazine because they are publishers
for “Kerrang” and “Q”.
These magazines are appealing to a
similar audience to mine, the company
would have experience promoting this
style of magazine.
8. Who would be the audience for
your media product
My target audience would be…
Both genders between the ages of 15
and 21.
There taste in music would range
around these genres…
alternative rock
pop punk
Emo
post-hardcore
electronic rock
9. The main other magazine that the
audience would also be reading would
be Kerrang as it covers a similar range
of bands.
10. How did you attract/address
your audience
To attract an audience I used big bands,
such as MCR, Fall Out Boy and Paramore
in the left third with the top band being in
“the sweet spot”. I also used pictures of the
band underneath the headings so that the
band would be more appealing to and
audience.
I left the page un cluttered by only using
three cover lines, I think this gave it a
cleaner feel and would be more attractive
to an audience.
11. What have you learnt about
technology's from the process
of constructing this product
Over this topic I have learnt how to use
a dslr cameras. When fist using this
camera I had problems focusing it, as I
did not realise there was another part to
turn on the front of the camera.
12. I also used presi, I found this very
simple to use and got to grips with the
program quite easy. One of the main
problems that I found with Presi was
adding it to wix, as I could not find the
right options to add it to a page.
13. Look back at you media self
before the project
I think that I have learnt a lot of valuable
skills over this topic.
One of the main skills I have gained is
the presentational skills for a magazine
and how to lay out pages.
