MOTION
FRAME OF REFERENCE 
 The background or point that is used 
for comparison when motion is 
described. 
 The most common frame of reference 
is the Earth.
Motion is the change in position relative 
to the frame of reference in a certain 
amount of time.
 Speed is the rate at which an object moves. 
 Speed=
 80 km/hr
 Velocity is speed in a given direction.
What is acceleration? 
What is the formula for 
acceleration? 
 The rate of change in velocity is known as 
acceleration. 
 Acceleration =final velocity – original velocity 
time
 18,000 Kilometers/hour
 The velocity is continuously changing 
because direction is continuously changing. 
 An object in circular motion is accelerating 
even though its speed may be constant.
 Momentum is equal to the mass of an object 
multiplied by its velocity 
 Momentum= Mass X Velocity
How is momentum conserved? 
 The total momentum of any group of object 
remains the same unless outside influences 
act on the objects.
