Introduction
Preface

The promise of SOA is to deliver business agility at a lower cost of ownership primarily driven with
the ability to reuse services. Achieving the promise depends on the effective management of the SOA
environment across the enterprise.

Successful SOA adoption requires governance – governance in terms of visibility, control on SOA life
cycle management, and analytics on service reuse and ROI.

Oracle’s SOA Governance Suite provides the governance infrastructure with its products: Oracle
Enterprise Repository, Oracle Service Registry, Oracle Web Services Manager, and Enterprise
Manager Management Pack Plus for SOA.

The governance infrastructure interoperate among the products in the suite as well as design-time
tools such as version control, integrated development environment, file stores, etc; and run-time
tools such as testing, build tools, defect tracking etc.
Oracle Enterprise Repository provides:
Visibility to Assets
That currently exists, that is under development or being planned - including SOA Composites,
OSB Pipelines, and AIA Artifacts, etc.
         Dependencies among assets
         Categorization of assets

Control on SOA life cycle management
Out of the box work flows - AIA Project Lifecycle Workbench
Communicate architectural standards and track compliance

Analytics on service reuse and ROI
Through reports on reuse, service performance, quality and compliance
Integration with JDeveloper and source code management tools for developer adoption
Integration with Enterprise Manager for run-time metrics into Repository

Scope

This Quick Start Guide to Oracle Enterprise Repository 11g covers installation planning, installation
and configuration, administering and managing users, and steps into the asset life cycle
management.

The screen shots used in the guide are taken from a standalone demo installation of the repository.
The steps in the asset life cycle management include the core tasks performed in a typical repository
usage environment.

Refer to the appendix section for additional resources and information on the OER.
Installing and Configuring OER 11g

Pre-requisites
WebLogic Application Server 11g (10.3.3) - installed and configured
   Database 11g (11.2.0.1.0) – installed and configured

Installation Planning
In this installation, Oracle Enterprise Repository 11g (version 11.1.1.3.0) is configured as a
standalone under the existing Middleware Home that was created while installing the WebLogic
Server. A Managed Server for OER is created extending domain that contains the Managed Server
   for SOA.

In the current installation, following values are referenced.
   MIDDLEWARE_HOME: C:oracleofm
   WL Domain Name: C:oracleofmuser_projectsdomainssoa_domain
WLS Admin Server Port: 7001 (default)
   Admin User Name: weblogic
   Admin Password: passw0rd

   SOA Managed Server Port: 8001
   SOA Managed Server Name: soa_server1

OER Managed Server Port: 7101 (default). This is selected while installing the OER.
   OER Managed Server Name: oer_server1

The managed server for OER contains the Oracle Enterprise Repository Web application
   deployment.

Pre-Installation Steps

1. Create database tablespaces OER_DATA, OER_LOB and OER_INDEX (each for data, blob and
   index)

Gather the database credentials. SYSTEM or SYSDBA privileges are required.
              DB Server: localhost
              Port: 1521
SID: odb11g
              User: SYSTEM
              Password: oracle

Run the below scripts in SQL*Plus .

              CREATE TABLESPACE OER_DATA
              DATAFILE ' C:o racledboradataoeroer_da ta.dbf' SIZE 300M
AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
              EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE
              LOGGING
              ONLINE
              SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO;

              CREATE TABLESPACE OER_LO B
              DATAFILE 'C:o racledboradataoeroer_lob .dbf' SIZE 300M
AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
              EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE
              LOGGING
              ONLINE
              SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO;

              CREATE TABLESPACE OER_INDEX
              DATAFILE 'C:o racledboradataoeroer_ind ex.dbf' SIZE 300M
AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 5120K MAXSIZE UNLIMITED
              EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE

  • 3. Introduction Preface The promise of SOA is to deliver business agility at a lower cost of ownership primarily driven with the ability to reuse services. Achieving the promise depends on the effective management of the SOA environment across the enterprise. Successful SOA adoption requires governance – governance in terms of visibility, control on SOA life cycle management, and analytics on service reuse and ROI. Oracle’s SOA Governance Suite provides the governance infrastructure with its products: Oracle Enterprise Repository, Oracle Service Registry, Oracle Web Services Manager, and Enterprise Manager Management Pack Plus for SOA. The governance infrastructure interoperate among the products in the suite as well as design-time tools such as version control, integrated development environment, file stores, etc; and run-time tools such as testing, build tools, defect tracking etc.
  • 4. Oracle Enterprise Repository provides: Visibility to Assets That currently exists, that is under development or being planned - including SOA Composites, OSB Pipelines, and AIA Artifacts, etc. Dependencies among assets Categorization of assets Control on SOA life cycle management Out of the box work flows - AIA Project Lifecycle Workbench Communicate architectural standards and track compliance Analytics on service reuse and ROI Through reports on reuse, service performance, quality and compliance Integration with JDeveloper and source code management tools for developer adoption Integration with Enterprise Manager for run-time metrics into Repository Scope This Quick Start Guide to Oracle Enterprise Repository 11g covers installation planning, installation and configuration, administering and managing users, and steps into the asset life cycle management. The screen shots used in the guide are taken from a standalone demo installation of the repository. The steps in the asset life cycle management include the core tasks performed in a typical repository usage environment. Refer to the appendix section for additional resources and information on the OER.
