• Left wing stripped Deng of his

campaigns against outdated ideas in
education
• Zhou & Deng out of the way = in favor
for the ‘Gang of Four’
• Control over political life

• Gang of Four got ready to take control
• But beaten by Politburo; gave Mao’s post
to Hua

to keep all of the power to himself
