Apart from residential spaces communities consist of various public and semi-public spaces for varied activities. It is public and gathering spaces where community comes to life. The best gathering space will be alive with activity a people of various ages, interacting with each other. The public spaces are designed by keeping in mind the entertainment and satisfaction of the people relating to the ethos of the surrounding. Just aesthetically appealing design won’t suffice. The requirement of various other parameters like economy, ecology is needed to be considered for a holistic design approach. Marathi is a language with rich cultural heritage in terms of theater and literature. Maharashtrians are aware of the latest writers, poets, books through several information medias like newspapers, advertising media’s and every year’s gatherings known as ‘Sahitya Sammelan’.(literary gatherings) This year this ‘Sammelan’(LITERARY GATHERING) was held at Sangli, a town in South west Maharashtra,India. Number of people attending function was far more than estimated value and the space designed took care of the extra population attending’ Sahitya Sammelan’

2. EVENING SCENARIO The gatherings in evenings were enhanced by provisions of musical fountain and decorative lighting for evenings.

5. MAIN PENDOL PLAN All environmental aspects like light, ventilation, temperature control, humidity by use of materials and techniques were considered for design

6. MAIN PANDOL SECTION The area was covered by trusses with provision of vents at the top for extraction of hot air. Uniform and comfortable temperature was maintained by provision of white ceiling and shed net was used to cover that.

8. GREEN PATCHES OF LAWN Nearly 1 acre of landscaping was done for the comfort and pleasure of the visitors.

9. VARIETY OF PLANTERS Area was decorated by removable patches of lawns, coloured flowers and plants all over which were provided by nurseries from surrounding areas.

18. A LEISURE NAP Only natural fabrics like cotton and jute were used to cover the sides and stage acting as insulation against heat.

20. CHILDRENS GATHERING Maximum use of natural light was made to reduce the electricity consumption which was nearly 50% of the required one

21. COTTON AND JUTE DRAPERIES The planning of pavilion was done considering bioclimatic chart of Sangli. Maximum of sun radiations and direct sunlight were avoided by covering side areas by cotton draperies

22. FLOWER ARRANGEMENT BELOW THE DIAS . Several garlands, carnations and draperies added to the beauty of space.

24. A SCULPTURE OF DEVHARA ( a place to keep statue of GOD ) Several fiber plastic sculptures depicting various aspects from Hindu temples like deepastambha, devdi, devhara were used at focal points which reflected the significance of religion in culture. DEEPASTAMBHA
