 the first open-source Integrated Library
System(ILS). http://slpl.edu.lc:8080/
 Started in New Zealand in 1999-2000 by a web
company called Katipo for libraries in rural
areas of New Zealand.
 Katipo worked with Horowhenua Library Trust
(HLT) to write the first version of Koha, and
then released the code under the GPL (The GNU
General Public License).

 a Maori word meaning Gift or Donation.
 by the collaboration of a growing
community of libraries and a team of
volunteers from around the globe.
Free/Open Source software is , software that
users have the ability to run, distribute, study,

search, MARC and UNIMARC support, authority control
Serials: serials management, receive issues, track late
issues, process vendor claims, check-in supplements

Editor's Notes

  1. Step 1 Open the Homepage Interface of Koha 3.2 and click on Cataloging Link to start the cataloging process.
  2. Step 2 Click on Z39.50 to search books and click on the button “New Z39.50 Server”, as shown in the picture below
  3. Step 3 A form with the following text boxes will be opened. In this form, you can put the search string.  Different search options are available. We have used ISBN field with 0517101432 as the search term. Press search button and be sure to select your target server (library of congress/oholink in this case)
  4. STEP 4 A list of bibliographic records can be seen in the next screen.  Click on import button on the last column of the record which you want to import into your catalog.
  5. Step 5 This record will be imported into the data entry form of Koha.  This record now can be modified/edited according to the needs of your library. After editing/modification, press the Save button to enter the item information/holding information for this bibliographic record.
  6. Step 6 After saving bibliographic record, the item needs to be edited including collection code, shelving location, full call number, and accession number and click on save button. (be sure to put S means Soufriere in front of # )
