DIRECT ACTION – Person to person or direct contact with the
issue (reading to the elderly, beach clean-up)
INDIRECT ACTION – not interacting with individuals but doing
something that will affect others (fundraising, collections)
ADVOCACY – Creating awareness, educating, impact on decision-
making (changing attitudes & changing policies)
RESEARCH FOR ACTION – Finding and gathering information
for others to take action (inviting guest speakers, attending seminars)

What does sustainable mean?
How do we make action sustainable?
• Making it last, keeping it going
• Have large impact on an issue, action makes progress
• Make sure the action works, doable, manageable, feasible
• Organise programs that last more than a day
