An online auction for the benefit of children
October 21 to 27, 2013

We started the auction in 2011 with minimal expense
but with lots of heart and determination, believing
that the worlds of art and design can come together
for a worthy cause – helping our children. Our efforts
paid off as the auction has since raised over P4
million for children’s programs through the tireless
efforts of UNICEF Special Advocate for Children
Daphne Osena Paez and our amazing fundraising
team.
UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary donations from
individuals, companies and governments, and the
funds raised from this year’s auction will be in
support of Millennium Development Goal 2: Achieve
universal primary education. Proceeds from the
auction will fund a unique education program to
provide young children access to early learning
through what we call Supervised Neighborhood Play
Programme (SNP). SNP is an alternative form of early
childhood education using home-based, neighborhood
play as a learning strategy. The program is
implemented in remote, conflict or disaster-affected
communities and in informal settlements located in
urban areas which are not served by day care centers.

Now on its third year, UNICEF Philippines’ Auction
for Action 2013 is an online fundraising event that
brings together works of the best Filipino talents
in art, furniture, design and jewelry to benefit the
poorest, most disadvantaged children.
I consider the auction as my baby that was
conceived one afternoon in the office of then UNICEF
Communications Chief Angela Travis almost three
years ago. We wanted to marry my background in
art and design with my advocacy for children but
make it fun and interesting for public participation.
UNICEF Auction for Action is one of the fun ways
we can make an impact in the lives of children in
the Philippines. Filipino creativity gets highlighted
and at the same time we raise funds and awareness
on important children’s issues. We do it online
to minimize costs and we’ve very happy to have
partners donating their resources to make the auction
possible.
To inspire the work of designers and artists, we
asked them to donate pieces with the theme of
“Play” because proceeds from the auction will go
to UNICEF’s Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP)
Program.

UNICEF Auction for Action is an online fundraising auction
event to benefit children’s programs in the Philippines and
worldwide. It is a collaboration between UNICEF Philippines
and UNICEF Special Advocate for Children Daphne Oseña-
Paez to bring the worlds of art, furniture and design, together
with advocacy to protect and promote the rights of children.
For 2013, UNICEF will rally to raise funds in support of
Millennium Development Goal 2: Achieve universal primary
education. Proceeds from the auction will fund a unique
education program to provide young children access to early
learning: Supervised Neighborhood Play Progam.
What is the Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP)
Program?
Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) is a home-based
early learning program that maximizes learning through
play in remote, conflict or disaster-affected communities
and in informal settlements located in urban areas. It uses
neighborhood play as a learning strategy and it’s simple
and easy to organize. Home-based early learning through
Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) is an alternative form
of early childhood education where trained SNP workers and
parent volunteers deliver early learning in communities which
are not served by Day Care Centers.
