Stained glass was a popular artistic medium during the period from 1200 to 1400. Colorful stained glass windows told stories from the Bible and brought religious narratives to life for those in medieval churches. These glass windows illuminated churches with vibrant colors while also educating parishioners about their faith through vivid biblical scenes.

Creator: Restoration of the window by Carlos Munoz de Pablos\nTitle: Alcazar - Hall of the Pine Cones (Sala de las Pinas)\nTitle: Interior: a stained glass window featuring king Alfonso IX and his daughter Berenguela\nDate: 15th century (1452)\nLocation: Segovia, Spain\nStyle Period: Gothic, Mudejar\nDescription: The hall is so named because the main feature of its ceiling resembles pine cones. The frieze is gothic and mudejar, and has an inscription and the date when it was carved: 1452, when Enrique (Henry) IV was still a prince. Angels with "pavesinas" (small oblong shields) bearing the coats of arms of Castile and Leon are the central ornament of the frieze. Of the furniture, the most outstanding pieces are a 17th century gilded and color-stained desk and three folding chairs, called "jamugas", one of which has ivory inlay. The walls are decorated with damasks and two Flemish tapestries dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. The stained glass window shows Alfonso IX with his daughter Berenguela.\nDescription: Location: Castile and Leon (Castilla y Leon)\nCollection: Sites and Photos\nID Number: R90230150\nSource: Image and original data provided by Shmuel Magal, Sites and Photos\nSource: http://www.sites-and-photos.com\nRights: For uses beyond the ARTstor Terms and Conditions of Use, please contact Samuel Magal, Owner and Head Photographer at Samuel@sites-and-photos.com or Ronit Marco, Content Manager, at ronit@sites-and-photos.com; Website: www.sites-and-photos.com; Address: 84 Goshen Blvd. Kiryat Motzkin 26301 Israel; Tel. +972 4 6904 503; Fax +972 4 6904 855; Cell. +972 544 799 642\nRights: Please note that if this image is under copyright, you may need to contact one or more copyright owners for any use that is not permitted under the ARTstor Terms and Conditions of Use or not otherwise permitted by law.
