2. During the early stages of his career, Dr. Stephan
Hittmann held a position with the New York City public
school system that involved placing and supervising a
broad range of medical and health professionals. During
his time in the position, he contributed to the school
system’s first position paper outlining the medical and
educational needs of children with acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). He additionally
completed pioneering work on behalf of children with
traumatic brain injury (TBI) by helping to increase
resources for patients with TBI in rehabilitation and
prevention centers. As a result of an application that he
co-authored, New York City was awarded funding to
become one of only four regional TBI centers in the
country.
3. Dr. Hittmann also served for several years on the New
York State Commission on Quality of Care. In this
position, he advised the state government on medical
care matters for residents in state-operated facilities.
