Who typically uses Instagram?
90% of the 150 million people on Instagram are under the age of 35
attractive platform for many apparel, entertainment, and media brands focused on the 18- to 34-year-old age bracket
largely made up of urban, youthful demographics, with a significant skew toward women
Instagram also leans toward urban users; 17% of U.S. adult residents who live in urban areas use Instagram, compared with only 11% in suburban and rural areas.
So why Instagram?
Because the platform is heavily used by users who have just become eligible to vote; a.k.a the millennials. It also allows us to reach people who have been eligible voters for a number of years that still do not understand how to vote or don’t realize its significance.
We will share photographs and images that we plan to post and get the entire group’s approval and critique. We plan to post at least 2-3 times a week.
Talk about why each Topic is important, Jeka will oversee and generally help out,
How will we instill a “call-to-action”?
We will inform our viewers; keep them updated on political news and campaign information
We will educate them; show them how to get registered, when, where and how to vote
We will encourage them; tell them why voting is important, show them the history of voting, how suffrage was granted for all and how it is their duty as a citizen to participate in the voting process
We plan to post regularly, have comments in the description to hint at what’s coming next. We believe that the weekly topics will keep the viewers engaged, as there will be a theme for each week. We will also encourage people to hashtag pictures of them voting or getting involved.
How will we spread the word about our campaign?
Each of us are active on a number of our own personal social media platforms and will advertise the campaign there. We will also reach out in our spheres of influence at home, in school and outside of school. We will link our Instagram campaign to the other millennial initiative platforms.
To link to the other platforms, we plan on posting the links on the descriptions, especially when the topics line up with each other. For example on a post about a candidate’s campaign, we can link it to a youtube video about that candidate one by the youtube group. To do this, we will ensure that as a class we keep each other updated on campaign activity by regularly communicating our achievements and ideas.
How will we measure success?
We will measure our success by the amount of online attention we get; the indicators on Instagram are how many likes we get, the amount of followers we have. Activity -Online responses, comments. Getting people’s feedback in person.
We have already set up the account and we have a schedule in place, so our next steps are to get going! Start posting and linking to the other platforms, spreading the word actively and enthusiastically. To reach as many people and influence them.
