Your Questions About Stock Market Hours

Lizzie asks…

Can anyone tell me what the market hours for stock market and
after hours. Difference from regular hours?

Steve Winston answers:

8am-5pm around the world are normal stock market market hours. After hours would be
anything outside that time frame.

                                                                                      1/5
Robert asks…

What are the UK stock market hours of business? FTSE open
close?

Steve Winston answers:

Have you heard of Google? It took me 10 sec to find it.

Sharon asks…

Why does the stock market drop when after hours trading begins?
I am fairly new to stock trading but I was watching my holdings and I noticed that when after

                                                                                           2/5
hours begins the stocks take a dive. Why does this happen?

Steve Winston answers:

After markets trading is less efficient so traders are taking less favorable prices. That translates
to lower prices with todays economy but can just as easily translate to higher prices during a
bull market. When the markets are open, you have thousands of investors seeking to trade with
each other, after markets, only a fraction of the traders are still trading for various reasons,
everybody else went home; hence less efficient and those still trading are probably trading for
reasons that further exasperate the pricing difference.

Betty asks…

How can you check on the price of stock during after and pre
market hours?
How can you check on the price of stock during after and pre market hours?

                                                                                              3/5
Steve Winston answers:

Internet - go to Yahoo Finance and look up the stock. You'll get the closing price there, but if
you click on the actual stock symbol you can bring up more info on that stock, including P/E,
charts, dividend, etc. It will show the closing price, and also low and high prices for the day. If
you look at the top, by the name of the stock in the box, you will see the closing price, usually
with either a gain (in green) or loss (in red). If you look at this after the market closes, it will
show what price the stock is selling at at that moment - after hours trading.

Paul asks…

                                                                                                 4/5
