1. COMPACT EMERGENCY LAMP USING POWER LEDS
Abstract:
Light is essential in the life of human beings. Since 1879, when the first commercial
electric lamp was created, men extended their productive time and increased their leisure time
after sunset, which collaborated with the development of economy, culture, and scientific
knowledge of society. Currently, artificial lighting is present everywhere either in indoor, such as
houses, commercial buildings, and industries, or in outdoor environments, such as parks and
highways. It provides comfort and security, improves the decoration, and stimulates physical
activities. Because of lighting dependence, Emergency lighting system becomes more essential
and also it is considered to be a safety item.
Existing system:
At present the incandescent lamps are being replaced by Compact Fluorescent Lamps
(CFL). CFL provide more efficiency over Incandescent bulbs in reducing power consumption.
Since energy conservation is needed more we go for the proposed system.
Proposed system:
In the proposed system, the lighting system is replaced using LEDs made out of
semiconductors. This set up can be installed without modifying the existing wiring. The set up
consists of a step down transformer and a full wave rectifier circuit. The converted and stepped
down DC voltage is applied to the LED array set up. Mean while the DC voltage is also supplied
to the battery for storing. The DC level applied is monitored using PIC Microcontroller and if
there is no main supply the battery backup is immediately switched to power the LED. Also the
LED brightness is adjusted to use it within the level of battery voltage.
