2. YOUTH IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Multivarious Definition of Youth
Youth is the time of life between childhood and adulthood.
"Youth... those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years."
- United Nations General Assembly
The Dimension and perceptions of economy:
An economy consists of the economic system of a country or other area, the labor,
capital and land resources, and the economic agents that socially participate in the
production, exchange, distribution, and consumption of goods and services of that area.
The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major
changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and transport had a profound effect on
the socioeconomic and cultural conditions.
The economy includes several sectors:
The industrial revolution lessened the role of subsistence farming, converting
it to more extensive and mono-cultural forms of agriculture in the last three
centuries. The economic growth took place mostly in mining, construction and
manufacturing industries.
In the economies of modern consumer societies there is a growing part played
by services, finance, and technology.
3. Four main sectors of modern economic activity:

Secondary sector of the economy.eg manufacturing steel into cars, or textiles into clothing
Tertiary sector of the economy.eg services to consumers and businesses, cinema and banking

an opportunity to help him grow and involve in the nation-building-activities.
In 1987, all the existing kendras under the NYK scheme were re-organized into an
autonomous body that was formed by a resolution of Department of Youth Affairs. As a
result of this endeavor, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan(NYKS) was formed. It has since
grown to have kendras in 501 districts of India with a network of about a quarter (0.25)

7. Job-oriented skills among rural youth (BPL)
Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana: The project is designed to equip unemployed
rural youths of BPL households with marketable skills, which would enable them to either
secure placement in the industry or pursue sustainable self-employment opportunities
through micro enterprise.
The World Bank also provided funding for agribusiness development, even though its
officials have been recently less sanguine about both the advantages of agribusiness
for small farmers and its effects on economic growth.
Goverment should develop the small farmers in agribusiness areas.Goverment should
set up a rural agribusiness policy for the farmer to start a small industry according to
availability of local raw materials.
THE CURRENT SITUATION OF RURAL YOUTH: education and training is often of poor qua
and is irrelevant and inappropriate for the needs of rural youth and of the labour market.
Rural youth will often look to urban areas for employment and move to cities. But without
training in skills suitedto the urban labour market, these youth have few opportunities in
urban areas. Often, poverty and alienation may lead youth to drugs, crime and make
them subject to exploitation.

9. Conclusion :
A significant portion of the world’s total youth population lives in India, which has 540 million
people under the age of 25 and nearly 200 million between 15-25 years of age. In recent years
(primarily after the liberalization of economy around 1991) the growth story of India has been
colored with the shade of a near-fantasy tale. Have you heard the buzzwords with regard to India
‘burgeoning young middle-class population’, ‘booming IT sector’, or ‘vast pool of English
speaking, science-educated skilled labor force’ around your morning breakfast, launch recess,
evening tea, and weekend party.
