The Kingston Regional Arts Council (KAC) is Ontario's oldest arts council and promotes the arts in Kingston and surrounding region. KAC provides funding to local arts organizations, offers grants to young artists, and acts as an intermediary for funding. It also communicates about arts events through its Arts Guide, website, and social media. Additionally, KAC presents arts shows and offers workshops/opportunities to foster collaboration between artists.
3. The Kingston Regional Arts Council is Ontario’s oldest arts council.
The KAC is an umbrella organization that promotes the creation,
production, presentation and appreciation of the arts in Kingston and
the surrounding region.
KAC staff, board and volunteers build productive relationships among
artists, arts organizations, audiences, business and community groups,
and all levels of government by the following means:
Funding
• Through the City of Kingston Arts Fund (CKAF), KAC annually
administers over $500,000 of arts funding to local arts
organizations
• The Nan Yeomans Grant for Artistic Development helps promising
young artists further their education and professional growth
• The KAC also acts as an intermediary for Kingston artists and
organizations that would not otherwise have access to funding.
Communication
• Our Arts Guide helps to build audiences and raise awareness of
professional artists and organizations in the Kingston area
• Our social media tools and website, artskingston.ca act as a
valuable information hub keeping artists, patrons, and visitors to
Kingston informed of a wide range of creative activity.
Presentation
KAC plays a lead role in high quality arts presentations:
• The Juried Arts Salon
• Cultural Kaleidoscope
• Building Arts Communities in Kingston
KAC offers:
• year round workshops
• internships
• professional development opportunities
KAC facilitates and encourages collaboration between Kingston and
surrounding area artists and arts organizations with other community
groups.
Advocacy
• KAC regularly attends City of Kingston Council, Arts Recreation
and Community Policies Committee, Cultural Services, and Arts
Advisory Committee meetings on behalf of all members
• KAC is responsible for nominating arts representatives to the Arts
Advisory Committee
• KAC advocates for the arts at a local level as well as provincial
and federal levels.
