4. What is Tumblr?
Tumblr is a mini- (or micro-) blogging platform that allows
users to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and
audio to their tumblelog (but most of it is images). It’s
clean and simple- what everyone wants in a social
sharing website. Users can follow and be followed by
other users, or choose to make their tumblelog private.
Long detailed posts are your typical blog posts but
Tumblr favors short-form, mixed-media posts.
Tumblr allows you to share posts back and forth
between popular apps like
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even other blogging
platforms.

6. Create an Account
Intrigued enough to create
an account? Here, we’ll
show you how.
• First sign up for an
account at Tumblr.com
• Once your done that
you can login with your
credentials.
7. Your Dashboard
Once you've got an account, the
Dashboard is the main interface you'll
use to track your posts, see the posts
of those you follow, monitor who is
interacting with your blog, and
customize your design.
As you can see, lined across the top is
the types of posts you can make. To
post simply click on the type and it will
take you to the post page.
8. Your Dashboard
For posting photos you will probably
first want to install the Tumblr
Bookmarklet.
Just follow the instructions on the
above link. Once you do so you will
be able to post a photo from
anywhere on the web. It’s the same
as the Pinterest Bookmarklet. You
just click Share on Tumblr
whenever you see something you
like and it’s as easy as that!
9. Your Dashboard
Making other types of
posts is a breeze but
let’s show you how a text
post works next. Let’s
choose Quote. So you
write your quote in the
quote text box and
include a source if you
have one. You can also
add a photo & choose
when to publish. Tags
are optional but will help
with exposure. Click
Create post and your
done.
10. Your Theme
So next you probably want to customize your theme. There are tons of free and paid for
themes you can choose from but to start you want to click your page at the top- beside the
Dashboard. Then you will see on the right side of the page it says ‘Customize theme’.
11. Your Theme
The customization screen
is very useful as it’s –what
you see is what you get.
You edit on the left to see
the changes to your page
to the right. You can
choose a theme and then
alter it however you wish.
Once you find that all your
settings and
customizations look just
right you can click save at
the top.
12. Your Avatar
To change your avatar photo click Blog Settings underneath the Customize tab and
here you will have options to change your photo, URL, interactions with other social
media sites and more.
13. Tags
Tumblr's tag pages make the site easier to navigate and
breaks it into categories. If you're looking for the best in
tech, film, animals, or any other topic, click 'Follow' on
any of the tag pages. Plus, tagging your own posts in the
bookmarklet or post entry tool automatically sends them
to the appropriate tag page. Also with Tumblr’s tags you
don’t have to put the # sign first.
You can also search tags in the search box on the right &
you will also see suggestions of people to follow.
14. Mobile
If you prefer browsing on your phone
Tumblr has apps for iPhone, Android
and Blackberry.
15. Get out There
