This document summarizes a project to enhance livelihoods in two villages in Kalahandi, Odisha through diversion-based irrigation. The project aims to 1) create employment and boost food production through double cropping, 2) reduce migration by improving socioeconomic conditions, and 3) provide irrigation to unirrigated land and develop water management skills. It provides details on the population covered, land area, number of beneficiaries, and crops cultivated before and after the project. It also describes capacity building activities, agricultural training programs, exposure visits, and future planned activities around SRI promotion, organic farming, and market linkages.

3. Improve the livelihood of the tribal and rural people of Barbandha and
Dudkarenga Villages Of M.rampur Block in Kalahandi district through
Diversion Based Irrigation initiative addressing food security and climate
justice.
•Creating employment opportunity during each succeeding year i.e. @ 120 man
days at average per acre coming double crops. Boosting food production at least
two folds in the same land. (I.e –khariff & Rabi)
•Striking at the very root cause of migration in the locality. As well as improving the
socio-economic condition of the people which mainly depends on agriculture
•To provide irrigation facility to the un-irrigated and waste lands and to develop and
conserve natural resources of the nearby developing small irrigation structure and
to improve the water management skills of tribal farmers by indigenous way.
•To make action research to develop new intervention strategies for socio cultural
and economic and agricultural development of the downtrodden people of the
drought prone area.

5. Capacity Building
Several Capacity Building events were organized in 2 project locations where
Youth Participants, SHG leader’s, VDC (Village Development Committees) and
farmers have participated as the key participants to strengthen their leadership
quality.
6. Agriculture Promotion
i. 2 G.P Level Training were Organised on improved agricultural practices i.e-
SRI Cultivation, Kitchen Gardening and Vegetable cultivation in collaboration with
agriculture and Hurticulture Department of Kalahandi,Odisha.
ii. Different Vegetable seeds were distributed to 122 potential farmers of
dudkarenja and barabandha.
iii. 2 exposure visit were conducted by AJSA- 26 farmers and SHG Leaders have
visited to DBI field area to study the functioning of Diversion based irrigation
channel and its uses on agricultural activities ,by Water User Association’s
(WUA’s).
