2. Field of Science:
Nuclear physicists field of physics studies building blocks and
interactions of atomic nucleus. But they mostly study nuclear
power and nuclear weapons, but nuclear can also be used for other
purposes such as nuclear medicine.
5. Primary School
Childhood: Ernest Rutherford
went to Foxhill school for
primary school, at Foxhill
Ernest received his first
science book. In this science
book there were many
experiments ,he choose a very
specific experiment on using
the speed of sound to
determine the distance of
firing a cannon. From that day
on his parents new he'd be
special.
6. Secondary & University
In 1883 Ernest Rutherford
attended Havelock School ,
four years later he won a
Marlborough scholarship to
Nelson college! In 1889 he
won a University of New
Zealand junior scholarship
and in 1899 he went to
Canterbury College
University of New Zealand in
Christchurch. Ernest
Rutherford was a large success
in school
7. Awards, Discoveries &
1888 more!
Ernest joined the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury , which is now known as the
Canterbury branch of Royal Society of New Zealand.
1893
He did his first research on high frequency magnetisation of iron. Afterwards the
developed a timing device that could circuits in less than 100,000 seconds.
1894
Ernest Rutherford did more research to higher frequencies using empty Leydon jars
and Hertzian oscillator and developed a magnetic detector for small current pulses.
1895
Then he was awarded an Exhibition of 1851 scholarship. This scholarship
intitals him to go anywhere in the world to share his findings.
1895
That same year he measured the high frequency dielectric properties of materials.
Then used his magnetic detector as a part of a frequency meter.
8. 1896
Ernest then set a world record for the distance of wireless waves are detected.
1897
He then discovers a gas that is radioactive. Then later he named it Radon!
1899
Then he researched the meaning for the modern smoke detector.
1901
Ernest Rutherford from this day forward is known as Dr Rutherford.
1902
Dr Rutherford announces to the public that radioactivity is a manifestation of sub atomic change.
1903
Ernest was elected to be a member of the Royal Society of London.
1904
He received an Rumford medal, it is his first major Science prize
1908
He received a Nobel prize in chemistry.
1911
Then he announces the nuclear model of atom .
1914
Ernest Rutherford is now knighted. He is now Sid Ernest Rutherford.
9. 1914-1917
He researched methods of detecting submarines.
1917
Then Ernest Rutherford became the worlds first successful alchemists, because of his work
changing nitrogen to oxygen!
1920
Ernest Rutherford then predicts the existence of neutron.
1925-1930
He then became the president of the Royal Society of London.
1929-1937
Sir Ernest Rutherford became the chairman for the Advisory Council of the department of scientific
and Industrial research.
1931
He is now known as Ernest Lord Rutherford of Nelson.
1931-1933
Ernest is the President of the Institute of physics.
